This document analyzes nitrate nitrogen (NO3-N) levels in water sources in Chhattisgarh State, India. It finds that coal mine water is acidic and dissolves trace elements like manganese, copper, cadmium, lead, and aluminum. Water from rivers, ponds, and other sources in coal mining areas show increasing trends in total dissolved solids, suspended solids, pH, and conductivity. Mine discharge water also shows rising concentrations of trace and toxic elements. Areas where rivers meet mine water show the most pollution from heavy mining activities. Soil and water in the Dipika coal mining area contain high levels of copper, lead, and cadmium, which can harm human health.
