Livestock play an important role in achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals through supporting inclusive economic growth, equitable livelihoods, nutrition and health, and sustainable ecosystems. However, livestock are conspicuously absent from the SDG indicators. Failing to consider the livestock sector could significantly impact efforts to attain the SDGs, as livestock are central to developing economies and the lives of many poor families. Transforming smallholder livestock systems in a sustainable way is key to meeting the growing demand for animal proteins in developing countries.

Livestock production trends show that growth varies by geography. Estimates indicate that global compound feed production is approaching one billion metric tons.
1) Livestock diversity is critical for resilient food systems and meeting the increasing global demand for animal source foods by 2050.
2) Investing in characterization and utilization of local livestock diversity in Africa can boost food security, incomes, and climate mitigation. It represents a huge economic opportunity for the continent.
3) Conservation of indigenous livestock breeds is important for sustainable improvement and adaptation to climate change, in line with SDG targets. Support is needed for research, national genebanks, and engaging local communities.
This document discusses the role of livestock in food security, climate change, and resource use. It notes that livestock accounts for about 24% of global greenhouse gas emissions and that beef has the highest GHG intensity of various animal proteins. Cattle in sustainable, healthy food systems: Perspectives from AfricaILRI
Cattle play an important economic and cultural role in Africa. Africa is home to 360 million cattle, with Ethiopia and Kenya having the largest populations. Cattle are raised on small farms and vast rangelands, with about one third of African rangelands used for livestock production. While cattle provide meat, they also have multiple functions for livelihoods across Africa. However, changes are needed to sustainably meet the growing demand for beef, contribute to development, and mitigate environmental and social harms. Interventions to improve genetics, health, feeding, markets, and input delivery could significantly boost cattle productivity across Africa.

The Food Safety Working Group (FSWG) in Vietnam was created in 2015 at the request of the Deputy Prime Minister to address food safety issues in the country. It brings together government agencies, ministries, and development partners to facilitate joint policy dialogue and improve food safety. Over eight years of operations led by different organizations, the FSWG has contributed to various initiatives. However, it faces challenges of diminished government participation over time and dependence on active members. Going forward, it will strengthen its operations by integrating under Vietnam's One Health Partnership framework to better engage stakeholders and achieve policy impacts.

Describing and Interpreting an Immersive Learning Case with the Immersion Cub...Leonel Morgado
Current descriptions of immersive learning cases are often difficult or impossible to compare. This is due to a myriad of different options on what details to include, which aspects are relevant, and on the descriptive approaches employed. Also, these aspects often combine very specific details with more general guidelines or indicate intents and rationales without clarifying their implementation. In this paper we provide a method to describe immersive learning cases that is structured to enable comparisons, yet flexible enough to allow researchers and practitioners to decide which aspects to include. This method leverages a taxonomy that classifies educational aspects at three levels (uses, practices, and strategies) and then utilizes two frameworks, the Immersive Learning Brain and the Immersion Cube, to enable a structured description and interpretation of immersive learning cases. The method is then demonstrated on a published immersive learning case on training for wind turbine maintenance using virtual reality. Applying the method results in a structured artifact, the Immersive Learning Case Sheet, that tags the case with its proximal uses, practices, and strategies, and refines the free text case description to ensure that matching details are included. This contribution is thus a case description method in support of future comparative research of immersive learning cases. We then discuss how the resulting description and interpretation can be leveraged to change immersion learning cases, by enriching them (considering low-effort changes or additions) or innovating (exploring more challenging avenues of transformation). The method holds significant promise to support better-grounded research in immersive learning.
