Dynamic Equilibrium and Feedback Now it gets complicated!!!!!
Remember This?
Dynamic Equilibrium When a system is in balance or harmony, it is in a steady state called dynamic equilibrium.
Negative Feedback This decreases the amount of change by reducing some of the inputs. This leads to stability and the state of dynamic equilibrium is maintained.
Negative Feedback
Positive Feedback This is less common. This increases the amount of change. This upsets the balance, or steady state. The dynamic equilibrium is de-stabilized.
Positive Feedback Example A lake is polluted and fish die. The dead fish cause further pollution. This leads to the death of more fish because decay uses up oxygen.
Feedback in a Coral Reef
Humans and Feedback Humans often cause positive feedback and disturb the equilibrium of an ecosystem. Can you think of any examples?
