The document provides a summary and evaluation of a production process for designing posters. Some key points:
- Research including audience surveys and competitor analyses helped shape the poster designs.
- Early planning explored color schemes, fonts and layouts to guide the design process.
- Though no formal schedule was followed, the poster designs were completed on time.
- Peer feedback noted some designs could have had improved editing and complexity, while most designs were creative and clear for the target audience. The evaluation addresses both agreeing and disagreeing with points from the peer feedback.
3. Research
• My research overall went well. A strength of this being the audience
research, which helped to shape a lot of the work that I did, for example
the preferences of role models for my target audience, this was influential
in my work as it helped me to decide which sportsman to use on the
posters. As well as this researching existing products helped me to see
what other companies were using in there designs as well as helping me
stay clear from unique designs to certain brands, as they could be
copyrighted. Also the interviews gave me more detailed information on
the target audiences preferences.
• The weaknesses of my research could be that existing products are very
similar, this is because I got posters related to what I was wanting to do,
therefore they all had a similar theme. As well as this with the surveys
people answering may not have taken it seriously.
4. Planning
• In my pre-production I looked at possible colour schemes and fonts to use
in my poster, this was a strength of the planning as it showed me what
colours would go well together as well as what fonts, but it could also be
seen as a weakness as instead of using this I just used relevant colours to
the sports performer on the poster. As well as this I created quick layouts
to see what the posters designs would be similar to, these were a strong
point as they gave me a pointer towards what I ended up doing in my
proper designs, these gave me a basis to start on. The schedule was a
weakness of this as I didn’t stick to it or use it as a basis for time
management of my work, instead of this I just went without a schedule
while doing my work.
5. Time Management
• I didn’t use a schedule for my time management yet I still managed to
complete everything in the time required. With additional time I would
have made more poster designs. As the posters I had made already I felt
were good enough, but with more time I would have made many more
posters, these would have also been more varied than the others, using
different sports and possibly different target audiences. I still completed
all work that was needed on time.
6. Technical Qualities
Differences
• All of the features of the poster that
I have made are blended into the
background of the poster, this being
the fans.
• The sportsman used on my poster
are older legends of the club, as in
the survey people suggested these
were the favourite role models.
• Backgrounds are different, mine is
more specific to the target audience
where as theirs is just a colour.
Similarities
• Both are based around
multiple players, therefore
multiple focuses, other
than one main focus.
• The target audience is the
same, as it is targeted to
fans of Liverpool FC, the
same as mine.
7. Aesthetic Qualities
The aim of my work was for it to look good, as it is a
poster design, I feel as if this has been achieved as all
the posters look good in their own unique way.
Some were very creative whereas others were simple
designs. Yet they all fit the purpose that was originally
set out.
If I were to improve anything it would be the
complexity of the two designs on the right. This would
need more time but if I were to do it again I would
spend less time on the little details on other posters and concentrate on the designs of these.
There wasn’t really a running theme throughout every piece of work that I did, the only
theme being that they’re all sports posters. This can mean that all posters reach out to
different target audiences, but this could also mean that when grouped together as an overall
project there aren’t many links between my pieces of work.
8. Audience Appeal
I feel as if my work definitely appealed to the target audience. This is because I used many of
the things suggested to me in different interviews and surveys that were used in the research
part of the project. An example of this being the performers I decided to use on the posters
as many of them are seen as role models of the target audience, these people include
patriotic performers who love the nation they reside in, such as Conor McGregor who is
included on one of my posters, as well as older legends of the sport, such as Jamie Carragher,
Steven Gerrard, and Robbie Fowler who are included on another one of my posters. As well
as this I catered for my target audience through the chosen sports, as every person who
answered the survey liked football and the sport with the second most chosen was
MMA/UFC followed by boxing, and all my posters included performers from these sports.
Also my target audience answered that they feel too much complexity in a poster takes the
focus away from the main subject as well as them feeling the colour scheme should be
relevant to the person, I feel this was achieved in all of the posters, as the designs weren’t too
complex and the colour schemes were always related to the performers/event that was the
focus of the poster.
10. Feedback 1
• What did you like about the product?
– Most of the designs were creative and unique.
– Target audience for each design is clear.
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
– Some designs were too simple and didn’t include
enough detail on them.
11. Feedback 2
• What did you like about the product?
– I liked that the logo was always included, as this
promotes the business.
– Most designs were also creative.
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
– Some designs were a bit messy. For example the
boxing one could have been edited better.
12. Feedback 3
• What did you like about the product?
– I liked the designs of each, especially McGregor
with the Irish flag.
– The editing on some was very good, like the UFC
fighter with many pictures blended in as well as
everything being blurred around the main focus.
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
– Some designs were too simple, like the boxing
one.
13. Peer Feedback Summary
• What do you agree with from your peer feedback?
– The editing could have been improved on some of the
posters, such as the boxing fight promotion, this made the
posters look slightly messy.
– Agree with some of the designs being creative and unique,
such as the McGregor poster.
– Agreed with the statement about the logo being included,
as they said it was good from a business point of view.
– The target audience was made clear with each
• What do you disagree with from your peer feedback?
– That some designs were too simple, one’s that were simple
were made this way on purpose.
14. Peer Feedback Summary
If I were to make my product again, based on the feedback, I would spend more
time on some of the editing, for example the promotional boxing poster for the
Anthony Joshua and Wladimir Klitschko fight. In this some of the editing could have
been better, such as the removal of the backgrounds in the pictures of the fighters.
Most of the feedback was good, therefore all of the things on the feedback that was
good wouldn’t be changed at all, as I feel like these were a strong point of my own
feedback as well as the audience feedback.
Apart from this I would keep most of the designs the same, as from the peer
feedback the only issues that were raised I have already addressed, the feedback
was mostly positive and the issues were very similar so they would be relatively
simple to fix.
