3. Research
When researching my product I used questionnaires and an online survey too
help me find out what people generally look for in an magazine, I also looked
up existing products too compare with. The strengths of this research and
why it helped were because it helped give me an idea of the general layout of
the magazines and what should be on the magazines, it also helped me make
decisions for the name of the magazine and what sort of images and bands
too put within the magazine. My research was not perfect when looking at
existing products I believe I could have looked at more music based
magazines too give me and even clearer idea of what too put into the pages
or chose a better color scheme, I believe I could have improved if I related the
product more to both of my chosen genres which should make my magazine
apply too an larger target audience and would have made the final product
more like I wanted.
4. Planning
• When planning my magazine I made several colour sheets and mood
boards to get a general idea then using this made a practise cover for the
magazine, and also planed the initial layout of the final product. When
actually making the product the strengths in my research helped speed up
the final process and make it more professional, my planning helped my
magazine look much better since it aloud me to test out which tetxs fit
well to the theme and which colours do the same and how it can all look
professional on the same page. The weaknesses in my planning were time
I didn't’t have enough time to do everything I planned and wanted to do,
too improve this I believe next time I should when planning plan to do less
but more on the pages for example making a double page spread rather
then the review. I believe this will make my product look more
professional and will allow me too be more creative on the page fitting
examples of both genres.
5. Time Management
• I did not manage my time as well as I thought but I still followed the table
on blackboard, my own 8 day plan and did work in my own time, but I
believe i went wrong when planning and if I had more time could have
done all i wanted. If I was given more time on the project I would have
done a final double page spread with my own written article on allowing
me to be creative with my writing also gives me slight practice with
journalism.
6. Technical Qualities
Both mine and the
existing product have the
same layout with the
image too the left,
contents down the right
and a little article at the
very bottom.
In my product I
included a selling line
at the very bottom of
the page too take up
dead space.
In both products the image
is of an artist, but in mine I
used an animated character
too fit the genre and style, I
also overlaid my image over
the boxes and text to give it
an almost 3-d effect.
The existing product has far
more on the page including
images and text, it also has
numbers on the image so people
know where to go for this story.
Both mine and the existing image
have a competition on the page but
the other is far smaller then mine and
is placed in the lower corner, also
they have included far more details
on how to enter and win.
7. Aesthetic Qualities
My final products look
professional and neat also the
fonts and colour schemes mix
together perfectly fitting with
the theme.
I believe my product is
creative using my own image
on the cover as well as most
of the written text is my own
including the review, but I
believe with more time I
could have been far more
creative in my designs.
Personally am happy with the
outcome of the contents in
particular I think I chose the
correct fonts and colours
matching the images on the
page.
Too improve I would like too link the magazine more towards both the
grunge and punk genre I believe this time I made the magazine
slightly too grunge in the final product, also I would like too include a
double page spread.
8. Audience Appeal
When making the final products I
made sure I had done a lot of target
research on fonts colours images and
articles, using the questionnaire I
made a decision for the title letting
the audience vote.
Also the image I have used on
the cover is one I took my self
of two friends the one on the
right representing grunge and
the left a punk.
Also the different story's
and posters I chose were
related to the theme and
were bands from each
genre. Also this being a
free gift inside will be
appealing especially for
music students who will
take items like posters
happily.
I believe the final product fits
too the grunge theme
perfectly maybe including a
couple more images, but I do
not believe it too be punk
enough, so I should include
more punk colours text and
images.
I made the magazine similar too the
kerrang a popular music magazine, there
fore including a layout I already know is
efficient.
10. Feedback 1
• What did you like about the product?
– What I liked about the poster was it was full of detail, it could be clearly read,
and the front page stood out, this is good because it will catch the audiences
attention
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
• Improvements that could be made, a more
wide range of bands could have been put on
to attract more people.
11. Feedback 2
• What did you like about the product?
– I like a lot about this poster as everything in it really catches my eye and drags me
towards the poster. The detail in which the poster is made is insane and the attention to
detail is immense. I also like the how everything about this poster seems real, as though
its done by a real professional, it really does look like a legitimate music poster. Another
thing I like is how he’s incorporated merchandise and sponsors into it, making the whole
thing seem more real and more enticing.
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
• Not a lot of improvements can really be made for this poster, but one thing I would say is for
someone who isn’t interested in music or any of these bands the poster is pointless and
won’t appeal to them as a group so perhaps include more famous bands that people know
more or recognise more.
12. Feedback 3
• What did you like about the product?
– I like the art and font style of the product, a lot of
information. Its very eye catching. There are no blank
spots the hole page is filed up.
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
• Maybe a bit more colour. Mite not interest
people who don’t like the art style.
13. Peer Feedback Summary
• What do you agree with from your peer
feedback? I agree that I may need too include a wider
range of bands too hit a larger target audience, and also that
there is a large amount of detail been put into my product.
• What do you disagree with from your peer
feedback? I do not agree that my final product needs
more colour or a different layout, I believe what I have chosen
fits the genres I chose and the layout similar to many famous
music magazines.
14. Peer Feedback Summary
To improve my magazine the changes I would make firstly
would be to make my magazine have a larger variety of
bands from the two genres especially bands much bigger
bands, I may even add a couple of bands not from the
genres but big enough to catch peoples attention who would
not be the primary audience for my magazine but would
open it up to a larger market. The next thing I would change
based on my feedback would be too include a bit more color
not too much but just so it may be more appealing to more
audiences however I don't want to extend my color pallet
too wide as I want to keep a house style.
