The client has requested designs for a Christmas menu and a new main menu for a pub called the Inn on the Green. The designer created mind maps with ideas for both menus, including using Christmas themes and images for the Christmas menu and incorporating photos of menu items. The designer also proposed designing a logo incorporating the pub name and image that could be used across materials. Mockups were created exploring font and color options. A production schedule allocates two weeks for the Christmas menu, one week for the logo, and two weeks for the main menu, allowing time for feedback and resources like Photoshop.
2. Mind Maps/Brainstorms
Star by using the first few slides to create mind
maps and or brainstorms for ideas related to
your project. Get as many possibilities as you
can.
Don’t worry about practicality, suitability or
potential at this stage. You will assess the ideas
later.

The clients request for
this was to design a
Christmas menu
which people can pre-
order and book there
Christmas dinner’s at
the Inn on the Green.
This would need to
include the menu
which has been sent
to me as well as
having a Christmas
theme to the menu.
I have a few design idea’s for this,
the first one being having the
background of the menu be the
pub/restaurant and this to be
dimmed/set into another colour
in order to make it visible but still
a clear background, from here
there will be Christmas themed
images, such as Christmas tree’s,
tinsel, and other kinds of
Christmas decorations. In terms
of font I think it would be good to
use the theme of Christmas again
and possibly have different
coloured main parts, differing
from green, red and white due to
these being Christmassy colours.
I think the colour scheme for this
will be red and green based on the
Christmas theme. This works well
due to the colours being related to
Christmas typically and this will
make sure if fits the theme the
client wants from this. I could also
use a yellow/gold font as this can
also fit in with the requested theme.

The restaurant has
just brought in a new
menu due to there
being a change of
kitchen staff and a
new kitchen manager
coming in, they need
a new menu to reflect
the changes and the
new direction the
place wants to go in
after this change in
the restaurant.
I’m thinking of having a similar
background idea as with the
Christmas menu, having the
outside of the pub on the
background of the menu but
being covered over with another
colour in order to make it a
proper background and make
sure the text is readable and the
main part of the menu.
Separate parts for starters, mains
and desserts, these will all have
example pictures of some of the
meals, will ask client for some
example pictures for the menu as
well as possibly looking online to
see if others have done so.
I will base colour scheme on the
logo I am going to create, I think the
main colour may be green due to
the name “Inn on the Green”, this
could fit a theme for other things I
am going to design as they could all
have the same colour scheme and
therefore work in a branding way as
they will be recognisable.

This wasn’t a specific
request but the place
doesn’t really have a
logo so I thought I
would design one and
use it for the other
things that they have
requested. This will
make them more
unique to the
restaurant/pub rather
than them looking
basic and simple.
I am thinking of using
the name of the pub
in the logo and having
a building design in
the background with
a grassy patch at the
bottom, to play on
the words Inn on the
Green.
The colour scheme for this could be
the same as the sign outside of the
pub and the same as some of the
other things I am going to make, this
being the main colour as green and
then I will have a design of the front
of the pub on the logo so therefore
this will be white/beige as that is the
colour of the outside of the pub.
6. Idea Evaluation
Which of your ideas do you want to develop further? Explain why you think that is the
right idea to take forward.
All the idea’s I have mind mapped are going to be developed further. The first two mind
maps were requests from the client I am working for and the third is something that can
help with these two and with the branding of the business.
First off is the Christmas menu that I have been asked to design for the client. This is a good
idea to take forward as lots of business can be achieved on Christmas day and they will
need to pre-book the meals so this is needed and needed quickly as possible so that they
can get everything ordered that they need for Christmas day. This will have to include an
area in which they can make there choices for the dinner and state the amount of people
who are eating.
As well as this there is the new main menu, which is not needed as quickly as they have a
simple version of this in at the minute. This is needed for the client as they have a new
menu due to the change in the kitchen staff. This is a good idea to take forward as the client
wants a new menu to reflect this change.
7. Development
• Development should include mood boards or other visual
examples of work. It could include basic mock ups of your
vision for the project using the work of others.
• These don’t need to be the same quality as your finished
pieces but they a good indicator of where your project is
going.
• As this is not final work, it may include work from others.
• You could include test work or practice work here too to
further develop your skills.

14. Assessment of final ideas
Suitability for audience: Do you think your audience will engage with your ideas?
Yes I think my target audience would like the changes and the new designs for
everything. This is as it is all aimed towards the locals in the pub but as well as this it is
aimed to bring in more people in through a change in menu and change in how the
place does business and branding.
Suitability for client: Does your idea fulfil the brief your client gave you?
Yes, the client needed two different menu’s, a Christmas menu and a normal menu, and
my idea’s fulfil this through the creation of them both as well as doing extra by trying to
create a new logo in which to put onto the menu’s that I create.
Timescales: Is your project practical and manageable in the time you have?
Yeah it should be easily done in the amount of time we get, I might even get some spare
time as we have a while for the production, and if we do I will ask the client for some
events that are happening and try to design some advertising for these events.
15. Production Schedule:
You should prepare a production schedule that will allow you to manage your time over the 4 weeks of production.
This should include:
• Deadlines: Interim deadlines help you keep on track, final deadlines are final.
• Availability: The availability of the client and any other people you may need to help you with your project. You
will need to contact them. You might to do visit. You may need to liaise with models, or photographers.
• Feedback: This is a working brief with a real client. You will need to get feedback on your work and also allow
yourself time to make appropriate changes. Plan appropriate time in to you schedule so that you can do this.
• Resources: You should include a list of resources that you will need to complete your project. Remember that
this all needs to be your own work
