2. Audience & Intentions
• The audience for this project was set to be the regulars in the Inn on the Green as
well as the people living in the surrounding area in order to try and bring in more
customers. Firstly the regulars were around 45+ and mixed gender, so an older
audience needed to be aimed at when catering for the regulars. Added to this was
trying to aim at the local area, in which the social status is DE, income is low and
there are mixed ages. This meant using deals for promotion was probably the best
way to appeal to this audience.
• One way I have done this is to make the burger and a pint deal stand out as the
largest thing on the menu, this being through making it a larger font than the rest,
this appeals to this audience due to the relatively low income in the area as well as
the low social status to back this up.
• As well as the audience the intentions for this project were to give the
pub/restaurant an updated look due to a new change in the menu and kitchen
staff. This was done through updating the designs of the menu as well as giving the
pub a modern looking logo to go along with all of this. The menu’s were a large
improvement from what was there before, this being just plain text on a sheet of
paper, therefore the intentions from before I started the project have been
achieved.
3. Client
• I ensured that my product was appropriate for the
client through making everything unique and relevant
to the client. This meaning that everything I designed
went with the way that the pub works as well as
incorporating the way the place looks into all of my
designs, for example the logo has the background of
the outside of the pub. Another way this was done was
in all of the menu designs, including the Christmas
menu, the background was of a picture from the inn on
the green, this makes everything seem more unique to
the restaurant itself as well as making it seem like they
are proud of the place and that’s why it is represented
on everything that is made.
4. Working with the Client
• I worked with my client well during this project, I sent pieces of work
during production to the client to get there feedback and see what they
would like to be changed to fit what they wanted for the designs. An
example of this being the main menu design, once sent to the client they
came back and said that they would like it to be less colourful and be a
more straight forward colour scheme, so I changed the design to be more
black and white with slight parts of colour in rather than what it was
before, with many different colours.
• As well as this before the project started I was in constant contact with the
client about the main audience they were targeting as well as all the
products they needed making for my project. I also went in to meet the
client a couple of times and discussed certain things, this was once before
the project started and during the project too to discuss feedback, this all
shows that communication between myself and the client was good and
there was plenty of back and forth during the discussion of what was
wanted.
5. Time Management
• In this project I used my time very well across each of
the different parts of production as well as pre-
production. All of the pre-production PowerPoint's, this
being the research, ideas and planning PowerPoint's,
were completed before the deadlines and therefore I
could start the designs for the client early, which was a
good thing due to the client needing a Christmas menu
done as quickly as possible due to having to take
bookings in advance for this.
• Once the project itself has started the client wanted
the Christmas menu’s produced quickly and therefore
these were finished quickly, within a week. That gave
me time to
6. Comparison
Differences:
• The first noticeable difference between the two is that there
are no pictures on my design, apart from the logo. This is as I
wasn’t provided any pictures from the client, if they had been
provided I would’ve found a way to incorporate them.
• Another difference is the details on the menu, the real
example just has the name of the meal where as my menu has
an explanation as well as stating what sides you can have with
the meal underneath.
• The design of both is very different, mine is more just text with
an image in the background where as the other is text taking
up one half and images the other, they don’t work together
like the imagery and text like on my design.
Similarities:
• Both menu’s include the logo which
means both menu’s have branding on
them to make the product recognisable
to the establishment.
• Both have similar ways in which the text
goes for the menu, having the price and
things like this next to it.
7. Comparison 2
Differences:
• My menu shows a deal at the bottom as a stand out part of
the menu, this makes it stand out more, where as on the other
menu there isn’t anything made to stand out from the rest.
• The other menu has a clear theme, this being the old school
monk theme due to the name of the pub, this works well as it
makes everything recognisable with the pub, whereas mine
doesn’t have any sort of main theme to it.
• The thirsty monk menu has tables to separate each different
part of the menu on the page, where as mine has just text with
one part of the menu being the focus, as the other side of the
page is what has other pieces of the menu, rather than using
one page for everything.
Similarities:
• Both use a background image and have the text in
front of this, this is probably to save room on the
page and have text looking better rather than
crushed in to fit an image on the page.
• Both use branding well, having a logo that
represents the establishment on the menu.
• Both use a play on words with the menu and the
logo, the thirsty monk menu uses a play on words
with the design and my logo used a play on the
words with the Inn on the Green, having the building
on grass in the logo is the play on words here.
9. Strengths & Weaknesses –
Logo Design:
Strengths:
- First of all I think the way this logo uses a
play on the words with the pubs name is
good as it makes it unique to the pub itself,
the play on words being that the building,
which is the design of the outside of the
pub, is on grass, and this plays on the words
Inn on the Green.
- Another strength is the way the text is used
on the logo, I think the font fits very well
and the difference in size between the two
parts also works well, as it shows the main
part of the logo. This also shows another
strength which is the way the grass has been
designed on the logo, as there was multiple
layers of this, meaning some parts of the
text would be behind the grass making it
look like it is sitting inside this part of the
logo.
Weaknesses:
- A possible weakness of this design is that
the background could have been designed
better. There are certain aspects which line
up well with the real life pictures of the
outside of the pub but there are also points
that are a bit different and places where I
couldn’t fit certain parts in while designing
the logo, if I were to do this again I would be
more careful on the placing of certain parts
of the logo.
10. Strengths & Weaknesses –
Christmas Menu
Strengths:
- The first strength of my Christmas menu
design is that I made it relevant to what
it was needing to be, this being
Christmas, it has plenty of Christmassy
designs on the menu, such as the candy
cane and the holly parts on the inside of
the menu, this makes it easily
recognisable as a special menu, drawing
people to it due to the occasion it
represents.
- Another strength of this is the colour
scheme, as all the colours work well with
each other on the menu’s as well as it
being relevant to the Christmas theme I
was asked to make the menu for.
- Another strength of this work is the
inside pages and the way they work, this
being the form and the menu and the
way they work together.
Weaknesses:
- A weakness of this work could be that
there isn’t enough on the main front
cover and back cover pages, meaning
there isn’t enough design work on this
making it look slightly blank, more
Christmassy things could have been
added to fill up more space and make it
look less empty.
11. Strengths & Weaknesses –
Main Menu
Strengths:
- The first strength of this design is the colour
scheme as I think that it all works well together
and works with the background well when it has
been faded out due to the colour.
- Another strength of this menu design is the
spacing between each part of the menu and the
way in which this works, having each option next
to each other on different sides of the page, this
makes the design seem less like block text and
flow better.
- I also think making the burger and a pint deal
stand out is a strength of this as it shows the
best deal as a stand out part of the menu.
- In addition to this I believe another strength of
the menu design is the way in which it is unique
to the pub, as it has the logo as well as a
background which is a picture of a part of the
outside of the pub.
- Another strength of the menu is the text and the
variation in sizes and boldness throughout the
menu, I think this is good as it shows the main
parts of the menu as well as making the design
for certain parts different to the rest, making it
seem less like block text and more of a good
design.
Weaknesses:
- A weakness of the menu design is that it could
be considered bland as there is no use of
pictures and therefore the food also is not
shown on the menu, it could be considered as a
boring design due to there being just text and
nothing else.

13. Peer Feedback 1
• What do you think the best piece of work is and why?
– I like the original food menu. This is because of the accessibility and the cool aesthetically pleasing
background.
– The font really suits the slick modern vibe given from the product.
• Do you think the Christmas menu fits the theme and how?
– I do mostly because of the colour scheme and visual aspects such as the Christmas tree outlines and the
candy cane. The text also has a rather festive feel to it.
• What do you think could be improved to the Christmas menu?
– I think some more spacing between letters would make the menu easier to read. Maybe making the text a
little bit shorter too as it looks rather stretched.
– Keeping all the text the same size will help keep the structure of the text too.
• Do you think the logo looks like a modern design? How?
– I think it is and it fits the rest of the menu perfectly. The logo looks rather professional and it gives the menu
a nice hint of colour and draws attention.
• Do you think all of the work fits the theme of a local pub/restaurant? How?
– I think it does. This is because it looks similar to menus I have seen around. It looks professional {and I would
expect to see it in an everyday situation pulling up in my whip blasting out despacito.}
Much love <3
14. Peer Feedback 2
• What do you think the best piece of work is and why?
– I think the logo is the best piece you have produced because it is very
clean and professional
• Do you think the Christmas menu fits the theme and how?
– I feel the Christmas menu fits the theme very well because of the
colours that you associate with Christmas
• What do you think could be improved to the Christmas menu?
– I think you could edit the spacing between the letters on the headings
or experiment with different font ideas as it is quite hard to read.
• Do you think the logo looks like a modern design? How?
– Yes I feel the logo is very modern with the block colours and clean
design
• Do you think all of the work fits the theme of a local
pub/restaurant? How?
– Yes I feel it does as the designs are of the same style and standard as
other pub/restaurants
