2. Project
For this project I am creating a MMA based magazine,
this will be on everything in MMA, will cover most
companies that are well known to fans, and most subjects
that are relevant. It will be made as a quarterly magazine,
therefore everything will be relevant as this will be made
as if it is being made in the month of March, just after
UFC 235, one of the biggest events in recent times, with
arguably the most hyped fight card the UFC has held in a
long time. I will cover lots of subjects in this from the last
three months, such as reviews of certain fights and
events, as well as big news stories and fights that are
coming up, also rumours as to what could be happening
next in the MMA world.
3. Copy
• Any articles that I am planning on writing for my magazine will be in the following slides. I am
planning on writing a few articles, the main one being based on Jon Jones and if he can stay how he
is for a long period of time, or will controversy take over again and end up putting him back in the
same hole he was in for the last few years, due to positive drug tests and run-ins with the law.
• Another article will be based on the welterweight division in the UFC and how open it has now
become with the crowning of the new champion Kamaru Usman. As well as this there is the debut
of Ben Askren, where he controversially defeated former champion Robbie Lawler to extend his
unbeaten record to 19-0-0-1(NC), and how this leaves the division, will there be a rematch due to
the possible early stoppage? Or will Askren be going higher up the rankings, as he seems to be
targeting a fight with Darren Till. Also what will Woodley do now he has lost the title, and does not
seem to be in line for a rematch, with Colby Covington being named as the next opponent for
Usman.
• The next article will be on the Bellator Welterweight Grand Prix and a review of the first round, as
this has recently almost concluded, with one fight left, this being the title fight between Jon Fitch
and Rory MacDonald, I have previously interviewed Fitch and therefore could possibly use some of
the information gathered then in this.
• There will also be a preview of ONE FC’s event “A New Era” with the debuts of Eddie Alvarez and
Demetrious Johnson on this card, two huge names and both former champions in UFC.
• There will be many other articles reviewing the first three months of the year in MMA as well as
predicting the next three, as this magazine will be a quarterly magazine.
4. Colour Schemes
These are all possible colour schemes for
parts of my magazine based off of the topics
that will be used, the UFC Logo’s and belts, as
well as the Bellator and ONE logo’s could be
used to find a colour scheme as it is all
relevant to what I will be writing about, these
could be used only on the parts of the
magazine that these are in, such as the
colour scheme related to the Bellator logo
could be used on the page talking about
there welterweight grand prix, or they could
be used throughout the magazine as it is all
relevant to MMA in a way.
Another possible colour scheme for a certain
part of the magazine could be green and
white, as Kamaru Usman has just become the
first African UFC champion and is very proud
of his Nigerian heritage, therefore a page
based on him and his accomplishment could
use these colours to explore this part of his
persona and how it has shaped him into the
fighter that he has now become. This kind of
colour scheme could be used in other parts
of the magazine for fighters who are similarly
in touch with there culture and seem to
represent there home nations, such as Conor
McGregor, Alexander Gustafson and Khabib
Nurmagomedov.
5. Style Sheet – Fonts:
• Sternbach
• Lemon/Milk
• Lemon/Milk Light
• NFL RedZone
These fonts would most likely be used for
heading’s, some I would like to keep
throughout as a consistent theme is good
for a magazine, but there will be different
fonts used for most headlines to make
the page stand out and be individual, and
also have a relevant font for this article,
such as the “Celtic Hand” font could be
used if there is anything to do with Conor
McGregor, due to this relating to his
background. As well as this an African
style font for the crowning of the first
ever African UFC champion could be
used. I want the fonts to seem relevant
and unique to each part of the magazine.
The fonts used for the block text can be
the same throughout, to keep a
consistent theme and make sure it is easy
for the reader, as a mix of fonts
throughout with block text and articles
could make it harder to read for the
audience.
6. Magazine Plan

7. Layout Plan 1:
This is the layout plan for the front
cover of my magazine. The main point
of this is going to be Jon Jones and his
recent defense of his title as well as his
future, due to previous controversies
in his past.
There are also a lot of side stories, as
this is a review of the first three
months of the year there are a lot of
events and fights to cover, from
multiple companies, so the most
relevant and mainstream will be used
on the cover in blobs and stars in order
to draw the largest audience in, and
making sure there isn’t a huge amount
of detail on the cover, as this can look
messy and put fans off the product.

8. Layout Plan 2
This is a layout plan for one of the
double page spreads I will be doing, I
won’t be doing layout plans for all of
these as I don’t think this would be a
good use of the time we have before
the production starts, therefore I will
do a couple of these.
The first one is based off the main part
of the magazine, the Jon Jones story,
detailing his win over Anthony Smith,
and his comeback, as well as where he
goes from here, and if he can keep on
track, and not divert back to the
controversy.
Articles on past controversies and
comeback in last few fights.
Articles on future options he has.
Headline
9. Layout Plan 3
This is another layout for a double
page spread, this being based on
Kamaru Usman, the first ever African
UFC champion. He recently defeated
Tyron Woodley for the welterweight
title at UFC 235, in what many would
call an upset, especially in the way
Usman won, winning all five rounds on
the judges scorecards.
This page will feature an article
reviewing the fight and how he
managed to do what he did so
dominantly against what many
considered to be the best
welterweight of all time, and another
about what he can do in the future,
who his next fights should be, how this
leaves the welterweight division,
which can continue into the next page
based on the rest of the division
Article on how he won
title against Tyron
Woodley at UFC 235
Article on
the future
now he is
the
champion,
possible
fights etc.
10. Time Management
The time I have in this project will have to be
managed very well as there are deadlines in
which I have to do my work before, in order to
keep to these I will make a schedule and stick to
this strictly to make sure I stay on track, this will
include which parts of the magazine I should be
designing at one time, for example the cover in
the first week, and then certain pages the next.
