This document discusses formative and summative evaluation in curriculum development. It defines curriculum evaluation as gathering data to decide whether to accept, change, or eliminate a curriculum or textbook. Hankins (1998) defines:
Curriculum evaluation as” A process or cluster
of processes that people perform in order to
gather data that will enable them to decide
whether to accept , change or eliminate – the
curriculum in general or an educational
textbook in particular.

Formative :formative assessment is objective
type.
Summative :summative assessment is subjective
type.
Summative and formative assessments are
probably two of the most widely used in
education today.

5. Measurement:
 Measurement refers to the set of procedures and the principles for how to use
the procedures in educational tests and assessments .some of the basic
principles of measurement in educational evaluations would be raw scores,
standard scores.
1. Aptitude: A test designed to determine a persons ability in a particular skill and
field knowledge.
2. Achievement test:
 High achievement scores usually indicate a mastery of grade level material.
 Low achievement scores can indicate the need for repeating the course
grade.

worth of a program while the program
activities are forming (in progress).
This part of the evaluation focuses on the
process.

Its main purpose is to catch
deficiencies so that the proper
learning interventions can take place
that allow the learners to master the
required skills and know.
