Town planning is the art of shaping and guiding the physical growth of towns to meet social, cultural, economic, and recreational needs. It aims to provide healthy living conditions for all residents. Without planning, towns would grow haphazardly, leading to uneven development, mixed land uses, and congested transportation. Planned growth controls development through rules and regulations, rationally distributing residential, commercial, and industrial areas while providing amenities to support future needs. This orderly process avoids conflicts between different town activities and helps towns develop sustainably.

7.  Ribbon development is building houses along the routes of
communications radiating from a human settlement.
 It has been observed that because of improvement of road
surface and growth of motor traffic, it is the natural tendency
of everyone to build as near as possible to the main road.
 The building activity therefore expands in a natural way
along the side of main road and long fingers or ribbons of
houses, factories, shops, etc.
