1980s:
 The foundation stone of maruti Udyog ltd was laid
in 1981, a vision primarily driven by the Government
of India.
 1982 saw the key joint venture between the
Government of India and Suzuki Motor Corporation,
Japan.
 The iconoc M800 was introduced in 1983, followed
by Omni and Gypsy.
 An emphasis on local manufacturing led to the
establishment of a component ecosystem.
 The first export batch of 500 cars went to Hungary.
1990s:
 Maruti Suzuki accelerated the local
component manufacturing ecosystem .
 Suzuki Motor Corporation increased its stake
to 50% .
 New launches included the Zen, Esteem, and
WagonR .
 The company touched the 1 million mark,
celebrating it by gifting a Gypsy ambulance to
Mother Teresa .
 Infrastructure growth was signified by the
inauguration of Gurgaon Plant-3 .
2000s:
 Maruti Finance and Maruti Insurance were
introduced .
 The company was listed on the NSE and
BSE .
 Manesar, Haryana saw a new manufacturing
facility .
 Emphasis on green initiatives was evident
with the introduction of CNG cars .
 The brand expanded its footprint with
models like Dzire and Eeco .
2011 – 2023:
 Honours included the Padma Bhushan for
Mr. R.C. Bhargava .
 Models like Eritiga, Ciaz, Brezza, and Ignis
graced the roads .
 Sustainability took precedence with solar
power initiatives and smart Hybrid
Technology .
 A cumulative sales milestone of 25 million
cars in India was achieved .
 Recent years brought in models like
Invicto, Grand Vitara, and the eco-friendly
Intelligent Electric Hybrid Vehicle .
One of the earliest memories of
any middle-class 90s kid is sitting in a
Maruti Suzuki 800 car and having the
best day of their life . Back in those days,
Maruti Suzuki played a huge role in making cars accessible to
everyone in India . The Automobile company entered the
market in 1981 and created history with its unique models
and service .
The Gypsy was the poster boy of all
hot blodded, male, car enthusiasts in the
country. It was a WWII Panzer, a light
tank with its short wheelbase, high
ground clearance, reasonably torquey but
sprightly engine for that period, and with
its 4x4 powertrain it could go almost anywhere. The Gypsy
Eventualy could not meet emission or safety regulations and
had to be discontinued, but it will be replaced next year by the
new Jimny, the SUV it was based on.
The Omni began life very simply as
the Maruti Suzuki van before the Omni
moniker was used since 1988, 4years after
it came to life. It shared several components with the Maruti 800,
but with an underbelly engine, typical of multi purpose vehicles
of that period. It was initially a big hit with consumers, but as
more contemporary vehicles began entering the market, its lack
of safety (no frontal crash zones, no seatbelts, and Several other
challenges), again a typical downside of all MPVs of that period,
Interest began to wane .
Just as global car makers came pouring into the country
in a quickly maturing Indian car market, Maruti Suzuki
brought in its global flagship to relertae its position as the
market leader . The Grand Vitara was, by all accounts, as good
as anything else you could buy at its price .
ELECTRIC CAR
 The company takes great pride in sharing that
customers have rated Maruti Suzuki first once
again in customer satisfaction Survey conducted
by independent body, J.D. Power Asia Pacific.
It is 9th time in a row .
 Maruti Suzuki wins “Golden Peacock Eco-
Innovation Award”.
 Maruti Suzuki ranks highest in Automotive
Customer Satisfactionin India for 9th
Consecutive year .
 Maruti Suzuki becomes the first Indian car
company to export half a million cars .
