This document describes a teaching unit developed for 7th-9th grade students focused on upcycling plastic into new products. The unit utilized a project-based learning methodology where students researched plastic and its environmental impacts, planned their own upcycling projects, and created finished products. Students were responsible for their own learning process from idea to finished product. Activities included brainstorming, research, planning, developing skills, and presenting their work. The teacher took a guiding role and students worked independently or in groups on their projects within a set timeframe. Feedback indicated students were highly motivated by taking ownership of their learning through this methodology.

2.4. List of activities.
List the activities in the unit and the methodology developed in each one.
To enpower students in creating their own product by upcycling plastic in different forms.
To research and find own information on plastic and creating own products by choosing different techniques and
materials.
Taking responsibility of own learning (Danish methodology)
A form of project based learning where students are not given a fixed way to reach their goal. But by having a common
end goal and using the teacher as a guide, planning their own path and process to achieving the common end goal. In this
case producing an upcycled plastic product.
Awareness of the issues with our continued use of plastic focusing on biology and chemistry.
To take charge of own learning.
To take responsibility of process from idea to finished product.
Remember, in this methodology different groups and individual students have used different activities. Some of the
activities have been:
First activities:
Brainstorming, researching information about ecological consequences of plastic use, researching about current plastic
production, finding facts and inspiration using pinterest
Second activites:
Planning and documenting the process, learning necessary techniques and tool use, staying on path, producing their own
products, planning how to present the process and finished products for class
Final activies:
Present finished products for fellow students, presentation of the process, evaluating the project (both product and
process)

Part of the project was for the students to plan within the time frame, so the time fit well. Not all students finished.

It's a great tool of teaching the students that they can make their own decisions on how and still reach the common goal. Arts
and crafts is a good subject for this because they end up with a product they can show.
