Communication Methods
Planning
Luke Nicholson
Codes
Number Name Brief Description
1 Compliance Something that would mislead or cause serious harm if it was not known to
give you wings. (For example, Red Bull Adverts are cartoons so it is known that
the product does not give them wings and it is only their catchphrase)
2 Recognition of
marketing
communications
Audience should be able too easily recognise that the advertisement that they
are watching is an advertisement and not something else. (This can be done
through music that is played that is related to a well-known product, and titles
of the product/company)
3 Misleading Adverts Something that doesn't tell the viewer that it does something that it does not
do. (Saying that the product will do something it cannot do, which leads the
views on to thinking that the bought something complete different to what
they thought they had bought)
4 Harm and Offence Something that would cause harm or offence to someone when they view the
product. (People can still take offence to the advertisements, but the
advertisement must have been made where the production of the product
was not designed on purpose to offend the person watching)
5 Children Do not advertise something that is not child friendly. Such as something that
would cause damage/distress to kids. (Advertisement should not condone
actions that are not healthy for kids to do, therefore meaning that this actions
should be enticed to be done by the child to others).
6 Privacy Something that invades someone privacy. Or they wouldn't have given
permission for the photo or content to be used.
13 Food, food supplements
and associated health or
nutritional claims
Cannot claim that it would benefit your health in some sort of way, in which it
would not do. Such as it making you stronger, bigger, shorter and skinnier.
Anything that may affect your health in a major way which it will not do
Mind Map
Mind Map
• Strengths of using this method
– Clear organised layout and plan of what you want to produce.
– Makes it easier for a clean plan and lets you attach idea on what
should be added next
• Weaknesses of using this method
– Products can change so it would either become outdated or
need to be re-done for the new design
– Might be limited once it has been made
– Might not be a good design
• Did you like using this method? Why?
Yes as I let my structally layout what I want to do and plan out
what I could add and change further down the line. It also is a
good way at letting me experiment with my ideas.
Mood Board
Mood Board
• Strengths of using this method
– Let's you have a source to come back too
– Let's you see what their advertisement are like to make a product that
looks
– Let's you seem the colour scheme that is used and what type of
message they try to put across
– Let's you see what themes they are most related to (For example, coca
cola is related to Christmas)
• Weaknesses of using this method
– Limited to what images you find
• Did you like using this method? Why?
Yes it gives me a reliable to come back to and a way of identifying themes and
colour schemes that they related to. But I am limited to what I find therefore
meaning that my ideas could be limited to what I do.
Style Sheet
Style Sheet
• Strengths of using this method
– Let's me add ideas to the page and find and mess around with ideas
(fonts and colours)
– Encourages me to find and use different fonts and colours, pushing my
ideas for the product
– Not restricted by what I have access to on the computer
• Weaknesses of using this method
– Limited by what I can find on the internet
– I might have to come back and look for more designs
• Did you like using this method? Why?
Let's me explore what I can find on the internet. It also lets me search for
things that are related to the themes that I am trying to do/use, meaning that
I could expand on what I could produce due to what I find.
Layout Plan
Coca Cola
Taste a bottle of fear
Purple background
Main colours of
Purple, Orange and Green
Make bottle purple,
Logo Orange and
small text Green
Coca Cola Logo
Changed from
Red to Green
"Taste a Bottle of fear"
Is an orange colour
Halloween Themes
Get your bottle of fear this
Halloween (?)
Green and orange
mixed or all red (?)
Layout Plan
• Strengths of using this method
– Let's you test and mess around with the design that you are going to
use it.
– Adjust the design before the final it is finished and makes it easier to
choose the design you want.
• Weaknesses of using this method
– I could be limited by what I have access to at the time
– It might become an unreliable source or needed to be redone because
of changes to what I'm doing at the time of producing the poster
• Did you like using this method? Why?
Yes as it lets me start a design of the poster and make changes earlier on.
Instead of making them later.
Independent Brainstorm
1. Someone drinks a bottle of coca cola
2. "The bottle of happiness"
3. "Coca cola"
Happy music which switches to move spooky music as it turns into the Halloween advert
4. "Coming this Halloween get your bottle of fear"
5. What flavour will you get
Ends with an evil laugh and the spooky music ends
Trying to make it fit with the previous
one, so that it is Halloween themed.
Independent Brainstorm
• Strengths of using this method
– Let's you plan out and look for other ideas on how
to make your radio advert
– Let's you test with sound and songs/music
• Weaknesses of using this method
– You are limited by what you can think of and find
• Did you like using this method? Why?
Yes as it helps me plan out my ideas and find
new sounds that could affect my ideas
Informal Pitch
• Strengths of using this method
– It's a lot more relaxed and it helps because the person
you are talking to could give you feedback, and this
could help you make your work better
• Weaknesses of using this method
– The review could be one sided and information given
back could not be useful
• Did you like using this method? Why?
Yes as it help me get help and an insight into the
project that I'm working on and notice errors that I
might have missed when going through the work
Formal Proposal
• Strengths of using this method
– Help me get ideas
• Weaknesses of using this method
– I need to be able to put my answer into it
• Did you like using this method? Why?
I'd rather use other method's because I feel like
it is more effective than this method.
Initial Reaction
I should keep it connected to the previous two
things I've made, that meaning that it needs to
have the same theme of Halloween.
I'm think I should try and make a platformer/
shooter and you win the game by reaching a
Coca Cola bottle at the end
Initial Reaction
• Strengths of using this method
– Let's me start brainstorming idea's and lets me
start to plan out what I'm going to do with it
• Weaknesses of using this method
– I'm limited by what I can find on the internet and
what I can think off
• Did you like using this method? Why?
Let's me plan out my first ideas in think of, and
lets me put everything down that I think off
Sketches
Sketches
• Strengths of using this method
– Let's me start planning out what I think I could make
on photoshop and what I can do with this project.
– It also help me figure out the work that I need to do
and what I should limit myself too.
• Weaknesses of using this method
– I'm limited by what I can think of.
• Did you like using this method? Why?
Yes as it lets me plan out my ideas and start
thinking about what I want to make and use for the
advergame
Formal Proposal
• Strengths of using this method
– Help me get ideas
• Weaknesses of using this method
– I need to be able to put my answer into it
• Did you like using this method? Why?
I'd rather use other method's because I feel like
it is more effective than this method.

Project 1 communication methods

  • 2. Codes Number Name Brief Description 1 Compliance Something that would mislead or cause serious harm if it was not known to give you wings. (For example, Red Bull Adverts are cartoons so it is known that the product does not give them wings and it is only their catchphrase) 2 Recognition of marketing communications Audience should be able too easily recognise that the advertisement that they are watching is an advertisement and not something else. (This can be done through music that is played that is related to a well-known product, and titles of the product/company) 3 Misleading Adverts Something that doesn't tell the viewer that it does something that it does not do. (Saying that the product will do something it cannot do, which leads the views on to thinking that the bought something complete different to what they thought they had bought) 4 Harm and Offence Something that would cause harm or offence to someone when they view the product. (People can still take offence to the advertisements, but the advertisement must have been made where the production of the product was not designed on purpose to offend the person watching) 5 Children Do not advertise something that is not child friendly. Such as something that would cause damage/distress to kids. (Advertisement should not condone actions that are not healthy for kids to do, therefore meaning that this actions should be enticed to be done by the child to others). 6 Privacy Something that invades someone privacy. Or they wouldn't have given permission for the photo or content to be used. 13 Food, food supplements and associated health or nutritional claims Cannot claim that it would benefit your health in some sort of way, in which it would not do. Such as it making you stronger, bigger, shorter and skinnier. Anything that may affect your health in a major way which it will not do

  • 5. Mind Map • Strengths of using this method – Clear organised layout and plan of what you want to produce. – Makes it easier for a clean plan and lets you attach idea on what should be added next • Weaknesses of using this method – Products can change so it would either become outdated or need to be re-done for the new design – Might be limited once it has been made – Might not be a good design • Did you like using this method? Why? Yes as I let my structally layout what I want to do and plan out what I could add and change further down the line. It also is a good way at letting me experiment with my ideas.
  • 7. Mood Board • Strengths of using this method – Let's you have a source to come back too – Let's you see what their advertisement are like to make a product that looks – Let's you seem the colour scheme that is used and what type of message they try to put across – Let's you see what themes they are most related to (For example, coca cola is related to Christmas) • Weaknesses of using this method – Limited to what images you find • Did you like using this method? Why? Yes it gives me a reliable to come back to and a way of identifying themes and colour schemes that they related to. But I am limited to what I find therefore meaning that my ideas could be limited to what I do.
  • 9. Style Sheet • Strengths of using this method – Let's me add ideas to the page and find and mess around with ideas (fonts and colours) – Encourages me to find and use different fonts and colours, pushing my ideas for the product – Not restricted by what I have access to on the computer • Weaknesses of using this method – Limited by what I can find on the internet – I might have to come back and look for more designs • Did you like using this method? Why? Let's me explore what I can find on the internet. It also lets me search for things that are related to the themes that I am trying to do/use, meaning that I could expand on what I could produce due to what I find.
  • 10. Layout Plan Coca Cola Taste a bottle of fear Purple background Main colours of Purple, Orange and Green Make bottle purple, Logo Orange and small text Green Coca Cola Logo Changed from Red to Green "Taste a Bottle of fear" Is an orange colour Halloween Themes Get your bottle of fear this Halloween (?) Green and orange mixed or all red (?)
  • 11. Layout Plan • Strengths of using this method – Let's you test and mess around with the design that you are going to use it. – Adjust the design before the final it is finished and makes it easier to choose the design you want. • Weaknesses of using this method – I could be limited by what I have access to at the time – It might become an unreliable source or needed to be redone because of changes to what I'm doing at the time of producing the poster • Did you like using this method? Why? Yes as it lets me start a design of the poster and make changes earlier on. Instead of making them later.
  • 12.
  • 13. Independent Brainstorm 1. Someone drinks a bottle of coca cola 2. "The bottle of happiness" 3. "Coca cola" Happy music which switches to move spooky music as it turns into the Halloween advert 4. "Coming this Halloween get your bottle of fear" 5. What flavour will you get Ends with an evil laugh and the spooky music ends Trying to make it fit with the previous one, so that it is Halloween themed.
  • 14. Independent Brainstorm • Strengths of using this method – Let's you plan out and look for other ideas on how to make your radio advert – Let's you test with sound and songs/music • Weaknesses of using this method – You are limited by what you can think of and find • Did you like using this method? Why? Yes as it helps me plan out my ideas and find new sounds that could affect my ideas
  • 15. Informal Pitch • Strengths of using this method – It's a lot more relaxed and it helps because the person you are talking to could give you feedback, and this could help you make your work better • Weaknesses of using this method – The review could be one sided and information given back could not be useful • Did you like using this method? Why? Yes as it help me get help and an insight into the project that I'm working on and notice errors that I might have missed when going through the work
  • 16. Formal Proposal • Strengths of using this method – Help me get ideas • Weaknesses of using this method – I need to be able to put my answer into it • Did you like using this method? Why? I'd rather use other method's because I feel like it is more effective than this method.
  • 17.
  • 18. Initial Reaction I should keep it connected to the previous two things I've made, that meaning that it needs to have the same theme of Halloween. I'm think I should try and make a platformer/ shooter and you win the game by reaching a Coca Cola bottle at the end
  • 19. Initial Reaction • Strengths of using this method – Let's me start brainstorming idea's and lets me start to plan out what I'm going to do with it • Weaknesses of using this method – I'm limited by what I can find on the internet and what I can think off • Did you like using this method? Why? Let's me plan out my first ideas in think of, and lets me put everything down that I think off
  • 21. Sketches • Strengths of using this method – Let's me start planning out what I think I could make on photoshop and what I can do with this project. – It also help me figure out the work that I need to do and what I should limit myself too. • Weaknesses of using this method – I'm limited by what I can think of. • Did you like using this method? Why? Yes as it lets me plan out my ideas and start thinking about what I want to make and use for the advergame
  • 22. Formal Proposal • Strengths of using this method – Help me get ideas • Weaknesses of using this method – I need to be able to put my answer into it • Did you like using this method? Why? I'd rather use other method's because I feel like it is more effective than this method.
