2. ASA CodesNumber Name Brief Description
1 Compliance Compliance is the company that is advertising a product,
obeying the laws that come with that form of marketing.
2 Recognition of
marketing
communications
The product itself should be easily identified within its
own advert as to not cause confusion to its customers.
3 Misleading Adverts Adverts that show false representations of the product
being advertised.
4 Harm and Offence Adverts mustn't show anything that one may find to be
harmful or offensive.
5 Children Advertisements targeted towards children must not
show any subjects that could be defined as dangerous to
the child.
6 Privacy An advert can not feature a celebrity or any persons
without their consent on the matter. It should also aim
not to offend anyone in any way
13 Food, food
supplements
and associated
health or
nutritional claims
When advertised, it’s best that the product is not
associated with bad health and habits. Neither should
they encourage misuse of the product
3. Mind Map
Coca-Cola
advertisement
Follow all ASA codes
(advertising standards authority)
The advert should obey all laws of ASA
codes especially these 7:
-Compliance
-Recognition of
marketing communications
-Misleading adverts
-Harm and offence
-Children
-Privacy
-Food, food supplements
and associated health or nutritional claims
The advertisement should
appeal to its target
audience i.e for 16 19 year
olds
A poster of friends drinking
the product would suffice
Include the iconic
colours of the drink
(red/white/black)
Feature a slogan along with
the advert. Slogans help a
company become more
recognised and more of a
household name
Change the product
depending on season
i.e Summer/Winter
(Christmas) or any big
event at that time i.e
the Olympics
If the advert includes
people show them
having a good time
and enjoying the
product
4. Mind Map
• Strengths of using this method
– Easy to view the selection of your ideas
– Can be generic enough for any product
or specific to your idea
– Easy to write down
• Weaknesses of using this method
– Simplistic and not visually stunning
– Points may counteract
• Did you like using this method? Why?
- I find mind maps are a good way to make a
rough plan of an idea and can help execute it but
with some minor drawbacks due to its simplicity
6. Mood Board
• Strengths of using this method
– It helps you visualise the advert
– New pictures can present new ideas
• Weaknesses of using this method
– You could find your advert idea already taken
• Did you like using this method? Why?
- Using a mood board definitely helps to give you
a load of new things to add on the advert but also
shows that a lot of creative ideas have already been
done
7. Style Sheet
Share a Coke with
(Adobe Arabic)
Share a Coke with (Adobe Gothic Std B)
Share a Coke with (Agency FB)
Share a Coke with (Bradley Hand ITC)
Share a Coke with (Brush Script Std)
Share a Coke with (Chaparral Pro Light)
Share a Coke with (Comic Sans MS)
Share a Coke with (Papyrus)
8. Style Sheet
• Strengths of using this method
– Shows the starting design for the advert
– Designs could be brand new
• Weaknesses of using this method
– Can potentially be a not good looking final product
– Designs can be old and used
• Did you like using this method? Why?
- It is a good way to test different looks for the
advert to make it more appealing
10. Layout Plan
• Strengths of using this method
– Can view the first attempt of the poster and grow off
of that
– Tests the popularity of concepts
• Weaknesses of using this method
– Can be difficult to make
• Did you like using this method? Why?
- I did enjoying using this method; it lets me test
different looks for the poster and see what doesn’t
look right
11. Brainstorm
The slogan
‘Share a Coke with…’
will could in the advert
Coca-Cola branding
will be obvious
Strengths: The theme of Summer will be
used by having people at a party with
music playing and a voice over
Weaknesses: With the theme of summer
the advert can only be used for a selective
amount of time and not all year round
Jingle will be played at the
end of the radio advert
Radio advert will include
people laughing and
enjoying themselves
‘Share a Coke with your friends this Summer’ ?
[Music stops and a bottle opens
with a fizz then music resumes]
[Have the advert start with
people at a party with loud
music as well as them cheering]
Have a theme (season/event)
Summer feeling
Voice-over: Something like,
“The party starts with Coke”
or “Enjoy the refreshing taste
of Coke this summer” or both
12. Brainstorm
• Strengths of using this method
– A short but helpful planning process
– Can list a range of ideas to try
• Weaknesses of using this method
– First thoughts that are written down aren’t always
good ones in production
• Did you like using this method? Why?
- For me, this method is very similar to mind
mapping thus brainstorming is virtually the same;
quick and easy to come back to.
13. Informal Pitch
• Strengths of using this method
– Can get constructive feedback
– Develops more ideas
• Weaknesses of using this method
– Might have to scrap your original idea
• Did you like using this method? Why?
- This method does in fact help a lot as it can point out flaws
in our rough-sketch of the ad and places where we can improve
such as adding more lines, choosing background music and other
alternative ideas in general.
14. Group Idea Generation
Instead of proposal –
Two people at their prom,
The guy asks the girl out and
she first responds by drinking
a coke she replies with
“I think that’s a good idea”
Music, record scratch, cheering and voice-over will be the same
15. Group Idea Generation
• Strengths of using this method
– Can gain and mix ideas from others
– More creativity
• Weaknesses of using this method
– Mixed ideas might cause conflicts
– Confidence
• Did you like using this method? Why?
-Being in a group gives us a chance to exchange our plans
and perhaps combine them like I did for ours. However it’s easy
for choices to be one sided.
16. Formal Pitch
• Strengths of using this method
– A good way of checking off what we’ve put in the
advert.
– Considers different points of the advert
• Weaknesses of using this method
– It lets you check if you’re missing something and have
a problem but not how to solve it.
• Did you like using this method? Why?
- A formal pitch is good for checking your product in its final stages
as it ticks off what you’ve made sure you’ve done and gives you
different things to think about
17. Initial Reaction
The project worried at first; I’ve never done anything like it
before however after using the software for awhile and getting
used to working and painting with pixels. I quickly got my way
around doing the work.
Initially I didn’t get the art was for the creation of a game thus a
highly detailed character, but this gave me experience with using
that art-style.
18. Initial Reaction
• Strengths of using this method
– Shows your initial interpretation of the task
• Weaknesses of using this method
– First impressions aren’t always good
• Did you like using this method? Why?
- this method gave me insight on my original
reaction after hearing the task and let me decide
where to go from there.
20. Sketches
• Strengths of using this method
– Get a good visual of your work
and can work off that
• Weaknesses of using this method
– Drawing skills may not be impeccable
• Did you like using this method? Why?
- It’s a good way to visualise and create thus I
did enjoy drawing the sketches
21. Formal Proposal
• Strengths of using this method
– Works as a checklist for your plan and lets you see if
you’ve forgotten something(s)
• Weaknesses of using this method
– Tells you about the issues if they’re present but not
how to fix them
• Did you like using this method? Why?
- I like doing formal proposals as they do kind of
act as an assessment to see if you have missed
anything and that about everything.
