Number Name Brief Description
1 Compliance All marketing communications should be legal, decent, honest and
truthful. (Don’t lie, don’t break the law and don’t include any
images that may be considered indecent.)
2 Recognition of
marketing
communications
Make sure material is clearly identifiable as marketing
communications/ advertisements/ advertorials. (It needs to look
like an advert, include logos, slogans, images, explicitly state the
product.)
3 Misleading Adverts The ASA may take the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading
Regulations 2008 into account when it adjudicates on complaints
about marketing communications. (You cannot lie about the
product, its abilities/ functions or price.)
4 Harm and Offence The advert cannot set out to intentionally offend a particular
person or social group, it cannot set out to intentionally offend
anyone on grounds of disturbing imagery or content.
5 Children You cannot promote dangerous behaviour in children, neither can
you pressure children to buy your products. (This must be consider
if your advert could be seen by children, and used by them.)
6 Privacy Marketers must not unfairly portray or refer to anyone in an
adverse or offensive way unless that person has given written
permission to allow it. E.g. Celebrities
13 Food, food supplements
and associated health or
nutritional claims
Marketing communications must not condone or encourage poor
nutritional habits or an unhealthy lifestyle in children or adults.
(You can’t promote poor dietary habits, neither can you promote
that your product has health benefits without proof to back it up.)

– Can be time consuming if you are aiming for perfection
– Notes may be needed to organize ideas
– The flow of ideas can be restricted because to much time is
spent aiming for a perfect design

– I like using this method because you are able to plan out your
ideas first which can stimulate new ideas.
19. Formal Proposal
• Strengths of using this method
– Delivers the required information to be able to do the evaluation
• Weaknesses of using this method
– Its time consuming as it takes awhile to fill out.
• Did you like using this method? Why?
– I didn't like using this method because it is very time consuming, and
requires a great amount of effort and motivation to complete.
