Many Graduate with a Higher National Diploma
Presented some 45 years ago the higher national diploma course made minute influence to the
education of professional engineers until the Second World War; and it was about 10 years ago that
the number of diplomas endowed approached the number sitting the Institution s own examinations.
Since then, nevertheless, the growth has been remarkable and today about 40 per cent of those
qualifying as mechanical engineers by full time or sandwich study do so through the Higher
National Diploma. Originally, the standard of the final assessed examination was matching to that
of the H.N.C. though, of course, in more subjects and it was not known for H.N.C. and H.N.D.
students to share the same class. Today, however, the standards are very much higher and method
those of universitydegrees. It is often overlooked that the university year is shorter than college
year, and that classes tend to finish well before examination period; so that, the H.N.D. course
duration of some 2000 hours or so is much the same as that in a full time university degree
sequence. The increase in numbers in recent years is undoubtedly due to the recognition accorded
by industry to the merits of the course. Firms have been able to recruit students unacceptable to the
university, and sponsor them on a course which not only leads to a professional qualification, but
which also has a smaller rate and an output capable of undertaking responsible work without
reprocessing. Another advantage is that the study

Dennis Rader BTK Killer Essay
Dennis Rader, or the BTK Killer, was responsible for the murder of ten people between 1974 and
1991. He was known for writing letters to police after a murder that offered information that
nobody knew. Eventually the murders and letters stopped, then in 2004 Rader sent another letter to
police claiming responsibility for a murder that was not connected to him before. Thanks to
advancements in DNA technology police were able to collect evidence from underneath the victim
s fingernails. Rader soon then sent a computer disk to a TV station and police were able to analyze
the data from a document found on it and learned that the authors name was Dennis. There was also
a link to a Lutheran Church that Rader was a part of. After police did a search including Dennis and
Lutheran Church, they found that the church has a deacon named Dennis Rader. After police get a

Dennis Rader was known to write letters that were sent to police and news agencies about the
murders. These letters would include how the crime scene was set up, what the people were
tied up with, and how they were killed. Some of these letters and packages also had clues in
them in different forms. He did this because he was seeking the fame that other killers such as
Ted Bundy had received from the media. He sent one letter to a local news station that had
hidden words in it that spelled out D. Rader and 6220 , which was his street address. However,
the clues in his numerous letters would not give him away. Some of his clues were overlooked,
some could not be deciphered, and some did not make sense with the investigation. What did give
him away was a floppy disk that was sent to a local news agency. This document had data on it that
named the author and brought them to the Lutheran church that Rader was a part of. Computer
technology had advanced in the decade since his last murder that led them to this embedded

Telephone Structures In The 1700s
In the year 1700s, for sending information, messages and data from one location to another location
people used aboriginal approaches, however these approaches varied in accordance with the
distance and length of these message signals. The invention of primitive telephone structure was
done by Alexander Graham Beli in 1876 which led to the contribution to the progress of inter city
telephone lines towards the end of 1880s in the United States of America. In the early 1990s, the
modern radio was invented and the first commercial radio station was established by the 1920 in

The Political Cartoon Privacy Wars
The Political Cartoon titled Privacy Wars, deals with Bill C 51 and its impact on Canadian
individuals rights and freedoms; all of which ties into Chapter Three and The Charter of Rights
and Freedoms. Within the political cartoon, Stephen Harper the former prime minister of Canada
is portrayed as Darth Vader, who is seen holding a paper labelled Bill C 51. In a text bubble
beside him are the written words, trust me. The cartoonist mainly emphasizes the Bill C 51 labelled
paper and the title PrivacyWars, by using bold fonts and centring the lettering. The reason for this
is because of how much the Bill contradicted individuals privacy rights. Not only did it infringe
Canadian s privacy, but it also violated virtually every Charter Right and Freedom.... Show more

The Theories Of Crime And Crime
Since long time immemorial, many of people figured out explanations and theories about crime
and those circumstances what encourage people to become criminals. Researchers of crime have
looked of issues from different approaches, such as biological, psychological, and sociological.
These developed thoughts created a fundamental basis of the criminologyas a science and become to
one of the most important issues of discipline. Furthermore, they figured out thoughts about who
are criminals and how to recognize, and treat them. One of explanation of the term a criminal could
be define as, a person who has committed a crime. History knows many of scientists, such as
Cesare Lombroso, those sociologists of Chicago School, Nels Anderson, Ernest Burgess, Ruth
Shonle Cavan, Edward Franklin and others, who came up with different sociological theories,
supported by evidences of research work, about circumstances to commit a crime. These theories
have looked to find solutions for concern of criminals are born or created by society. However, to

Dangers Of The Fashion Industry
America s Obsession For decades people all over the world dream to become models. The Fashion
industry has been around for decades and it continues to flourish today. Modeling has become an
influential sport which creates false expectations for men and women around the world. The
fashion industry has turned a blind eye to modeling by taking photos of models to make them look
glamorous without showing the dangers it can have on the healthof models. T.V. shows, movies,
magazines, and other media influence society s perspective of what they should look like according
to Hollywood and the fashion industry. Fashion companies anticipate bizarre thinness within their
models that results in eating disorders and irregular dieting leading to starvation. Models turn to
alternatives like anorexia and other disorders to meet company expectations. Anorexia is the most
common disorders among various models in the fashion industry. Companies exhort models to
indulge in dangerous health alternations and malnutrition models should be a concern for
companies across the nation. Fashion companies should require medical examinations to increase
the health of models and demolish false expectations that Hollywood and media present to society.
Fashion companies set unrealistic and dangerous conditions that affect health. The Fashion industry

The Media And Popular Culture
Media and Popular Culture Popular culture is different from traditional culture; it is based on the
timeline of the significant characteristics of a culture. Popular culture is the ideas, attitudes,
thinking, memes, images, and other phenomena that are in the mainstream of a given culture,
especially the western culturein the early 20th century to the middle 20th century and the emerging
global mainstream in the early 20th and the 21st century. Deeply influenced by the mass media, this
collection of ideas permeates daily life of the society (Wikipedia 2014). Mass media is
conceived and designed to reach a very large media audience. It may need to be in the form of
broadcast media, in television and radio, or print media, such as newspapers and magazines.
Internet media can also obtain the status of the mass media; actually, with so many ways out
there provided by internet media, mass media has been more accessible than ever before. Some
people also call it the mainstream media , refer to the fact that it tends to give prominent coverage
to the news that are cater for the interest of the public, while ignores the controversial news. Most
people around the world are dependent on mainstream sources for most of their news, so globally,
it has already been a huge industry. But there could be some problems with mass means too, as it
could devour the diversity and have negative effect on popular culture.

Maytag Strategic Analysis
I.Executive Summary
Maytag Corporation was founded in 1893 by Fred L Maytag and two other men. The company
built its first washing machine in 1907. From there the company quickly expanded into a national
corporation. With the sweeping globalization movement of the 1990 s, Maytag has attempted to
establish a presence as a global competitor in the appliance industry.
As the company has tried to establish itself in the developing global marketplace, it has had
difficulties. Not only were consumers taste and preferences changing in the domestic market, but
the company needed to develop products that would appeal to the new global markets. Maytag will
need a great deal of money to make these large changes.
The current strategy that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Technological forces also made a very large change in the mid 90s. With Microsoft s launch of
the first user friendly Windows program, home computer usage began to increase. Also Al Gore
helped the world wide web launch during this time frame. With access to the internet, companies
were also able to use electronic data interchange (EDI) to help make purchase orders, schedule
delivers and other functions that are available when companies share data. Maytag also at this time
is using fuzzy logic in appliances. More technology will continue to be required in appliances as
time moves on.
Porter s five forces are used to determine the competitive intensity and attractiveness of a market.
These are close forces that affect a company s ability to make a profit and serve customers. If any
of these forces change, a company must reassess its marketplace. The five forces include: the threat
of substitute products, the threat of the entry of new competitors, the intensity of competitive
rivalry, the bargaining power of customers and the bargaining power of suppliers.
Porter s five forces can be used to analyze Maytag. First, the threat of substitute products is low. The
only substitute for a washing machine is a large sink and a great deal of manual labor. Many of the
appliances have substitutes, but because those substitutes are so old and outdated there is not a
threat from them.
Second, the threat of entry of

John Stuart Mill s Qualitative Hedonism Essay
In this hypothetical, two options are given. A person may choose from being reincarnated as
Haydn, a famous musical composer, for 77 years. Or one may live as an Oyster, and decide for
themselves however long they want to live. An oyster would experience unlimited years of a
feeling that is near that of floating drunk in a bathtub. As Haydn, a person would experience the
highs and the lows of life. Haydn composed many symphonies, and was a celebrity in his day as a
musical composer. With being famous and influential, comes low times and struggles as well. The
decision is between a painless life of small satisfaction, or a mix between extreme satisfaction and
extreme lows. Two well known philosophers have very different thought processes, when it comes
to this thought experiment. Jeremy Benthamand John Stuart Millare their names. I side with John
Stuart Mill s qualitative hedonism. I believe that his theory is more plausible. I believe this because
in my life I have encountered the joy of higher pleasure and am certain it is much better than that of
a lower pleasure. Jeremy Bentham s quantitative hedonism is a viewpoint that quantity, intensity,
and duration of pleasures determines the value of that pleasure. Bentham argues that happiness is
the ultimate good. He argues that the definition of happiness is pleasure accompanied by an
avoidance of pain. Jeremy Bentham believed that creating the greatest combined happiness was the
key to correct moral behavior.

Constantine s Influence On Christianity
One of the Most monumental moments for the Christian Church was the conversion of Constantine
in 312 AD. This drastically changed christians lives, before they had suffered huge amounts of
persecution. In Rome today still stands the Coliseum, to which the christians were fed to the lions
as entertainment. Constantine, under the influence of his epiphany, changed this. He believed his
victory at the battle of Milvian Bridge was a sign from God and as a result he enforced christianity
as the main religion of Rome . Constantine, was inspired by his new found faith, four main aspects
made Chrisianity far more attractive to him than other pagan religions. Christianity was a well

, that lead to the Nicaea Council was the Arian Crisis. It challenged the divinity of God the father
and God the son, which were the very foundations of the Christian Church. The essence of the
debate, was theological rather than christological and lied mainly with the wording of the creed;
We believe in God the father, Almighty and Jesuschrist his begotten son Theologians such as Arius
from Alexandria , took on the adoptionist approach, that Jesus couldn t be divine as he suffered and
changed. The son was therefore subsequently inferior to the Father. He goes further to suggest that
it both the father and the son are eternal beings in their own right; then arguably there are two Gods
this goes against the original monotheism of the church and argued that this was inaccurate, as the
church was meant to be monotheism. The creed was open to interpretation and the church was
unable to explain the trinity. Arius raised the Question about the Son s relationship to the father to
a metaphysical and ontological, in defining the divinity of the logus. Arius produces two
presuppositions; God for Arius was above all One, a Monad

Phoenix Jackson In The Worn Path By Eudora Welty
Eudora Welty uses partial third person to evoke sympathy from the reader for Phoenix Jackson
by revealing her thoughts in the conversations she has with herself. In these conversations,
readers get a glimpse of her deteriorating mental clarity and health that comes with age. Her
growing senility can be seen when she sees the scarecrow as a ghost. She tells the scarecrow,
who d you be the ghost of? For I have heard of nary death close by (Welty235). Readers are drawn
into Phoenix s hardship through statements like, it was my memory had left me. there I sat and
forgot why I had made the trip (Welty 239). In everyday life, one can both sympathize and relate to
her hardships, struggles, and triumphs. In The Worn Path , Eudora Weltydescribes Phoenix Jackson
in a such a manner, the reader feels as if Phoenix is right in front of him/her; this can seen in the
visual images of skin having numberless branching wrinkles as though a whole tree stood in the

Introduction
The presence of natural resources in a country is supposed to a positive addition towards realizing
development goals. Both economic and social development is supposed to benefit from
approximated revenues that are to be generated from mining industries. However, the views that
natural resources are a major source of economic and social growth has been scrutinized over the
past decade, with the rising number of countries where resources expectations have not been met
having contributed to these reviews (Collier). These reviews have led to the emergence of two
major views with regards to the relationship that exist between natural resources and general
national development. These views are; the conventional view and the alternative view. The
conventional view holds that there still exist a positive relationship between natural resources and
growth while the alternative view uses the examples of countries where growth has declined or
stalled after discovery of natural resources. The alternative describes what is regarded as the
resources curse (Davis). This discussion paper will discuss the relationship that exists between
natural resources, governance and national growth. In doing this, North Korea will be used a case
study while seeking to identify the resources that are found in the country, their status and the
avenues through which the resource curse can be avoided. The cases on the OT mining in

Essay on Impact of the Industrial Revolution on History
Evolution is life, as life is constantly changing. During Histories most important periods the world
changes drastically. According to historians, two of these periods have taken place, and one of
them was the Industrial Revolution (Miller, 492). Like its name suggests the Industrial Revolution
had to do with the evolving Industry. It was a period during the 18th and 19th centuries marked by
social and technological change in which manufacturing began to rely (INDUSTRIAL
REVOLUTION, Timeline Index). Power driven machines began to perform what people had done
before. Many significant changes in the way goods were produced took place ultimately
transforming and modernizing the world. The basic resources for industrialization: land, capital,...

They are Romanticism, or the Romantic Movement and Realism, including regionalism and
naturalists (Miller, 534 38). The Romantic Movement, also known as romanticism, took place in
the early 1800 s. Rather than write about the lives of ordinary people, romantics dealt with the
romance of life. They appealed to sentiment and imagination rather than reality (Miller, 534). The
essence of Romanticism is a belief in the power and validity of human emotions as a means of
knowing and a guide to life. Instead of following the previous periods belief in a ruling class as the
center of power, romantics believed that power existed among all people. This was due to every
humans capability to learn through emotional experiences, regardless of stature (Roberts, 1032).
Romantic writers not only glorified these beliefs but the past as well, so it made sense that the
Romantic Movement was partly a reaction to the Enlightenment Movement of the 1700 s. The
people of the Enlightenment emphasized reason and progresses the way romantics lived off of
emotion and instinct (Miller, 534). In addition to reacting to the past, Romanticism undoubtedly
reflected many ideas of the, then, present (Roberts, 1032). The American and French Revolutions,
with their emphases on the common man and representative government, influenced the Romantic
Movement (Roberts, 1032). Just as France had overturned the old order of society in name of

this study, a concept analysis was performed to provide an inclusive definition of spiritual care
concept in nursing, which encompasses the first and second step of selection of concept and aim of

nursing care. According to the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations,
spiritual care is a prerequisite for quality care. Attributes separate a concept from other surrounding

How Did Castro Win The Cuban Revolution
Cuban culture has undergone a major transformation since the revolution... Says Sandra H.
Levinson, an author. The revolution had a positive impact on Cuba. However, Cuba had to go
through a lot to win the Revolution. The Cuban Revolution began in 1952 when a former army
sergeant named Fulgencio Batista seized power during a contested election. Fulgencio was the
elected president of Cubafrom 1940 to 1944 and dictator from 1952 to 1959. Another one of Cuba s
important men is Fidel Castro. Castro is a Cuban politician and revolutionary who governed the
Republic of Cuba. Fidel and his partner Che Guevara were both in charge of the Cuban Revolution,
and made the isolated Moncada Barracks his target. Castro estimated the trip would take 5 days.
However, due to engine problems, him and his men arrived late in broad daylight. On the morning
of July 23, 1953, Castro made his move, but he needed weapons, and he got them. 138 men
attacked the Moncada at dawn, many were captured. Although Castro attacked the Moncada, it was

200 feet, and coastal cities would be completely submerged underwater. Billions of people would
be homeless, and the habitats and lives of wildlife would be doomed. Plus, Earth s weather patterns
would go through massive changes, and salt water would pollute freshwater aquifers, affecting
drinking water and crops. The question now is not if this will happen, but when.

These suggestions however are outrageous and impossible for everyday people to do. It s
unbelievable that scientists would even consider these solutions. That is why I have proposed
that we set up fans everywhere we can. By setting up fans everywhere we can, the cold air
produced will cool down Earth s temperatures and reverse the process of global warming. If this
plan is implemented, then climate change will be a thing of the past.
According to Merriam Webster Dictionary, a fan is an apparatus with rotating blades that
creates a current of air for cooling or ventilation . They are powered by a motor and work by
moving the air in front of the fan. This movement creates a breeze and chills the area. In the
summertime, my grandma uses a fan when her room gets too warm. Why can t we apply this
logic to combat the global warming of this room we call Earth? There are many options to
utilize the power of fans. One option is to set up enormous fans along the coastlines. Every
major city on the coastline will have a giant fan. They will install the fan onto a dock and will
constantly have it blowing, even in the wintertime. If the average fan is 16 inches and has a wind
speed of 7.2 meters/seconds, then a fan 10,000 times the size of an average fan will generate a
wind speed of 72,000 m/s. Scientist Matthew Jones says, that the combined amount of wind speed
from every city will be enough to drop Earth s temperature by 0.5п‚° F. Although people may argue

A new beginning was laid forth the day Prometheus discovered Individualism and the importance

The Survival Of Man Depends On The Early Construction Of...
IntroductionThe survival of man depends on the early construction of an ultraintelligent machine
(Good, 1965). As early as the 1960s renowned scientists such as Good and Neumann theorized of
an intelligence explosion, now known as the technology singularity, resulting from intelligent
machines designing their next generation without human intervention. This idea of artificial
intelligence (AI) has grown immensely and is a common topic amongst scholars, scientists, and
theorists in the mathematic and scientific world. The key idea underlying the impending
Singularity is that the pace of change of our human created technology is accelerating and its
powers are expanding at an exponential pace. Exponential growth is deceptive. It starts out
almost imperceptibly and then explodes with unexpected fury unexpected, that is, if one does not
take care to follow its trajectory (Kurzweil, 8, 2005). Ray Kurzweil a scientist, inventor, author,
and current director of engineering at Google is the leading theorist of the Singularity. So what is
the singularity you ask? Most simply put Kurzweil defines it as, a future period during which the
pace of technological change will be so rapid, its impact so deep, that human life will be
irreversibly transformed (Kurzweil, 2005, 7). Currently we are in the early stages of the transition.

I watched the first black mirror episode and then the episode 3 (episode 1 stood out the most).
One of the first things that stood out to right from the beginning was how they tried to make it a

fact that our world could turn out to be like the episodes where no one knows the world out side

Hyper real, and a major one was satire.

part was when her son was on the couch playing a video game with the virtual reality headset

he had no clue that she asked him a question, this also relates to when they were getting tea and
how everyone was on there phone and not talking to other people they were living their world

How did the event benefit the eight hour movement?

Sometimes, a work is so great that artists from other forms of expression are compelled to
interpret that work in their own medium. Francis Ford Coppola took James Conrad s classic novel
Heart of Darkness and updated it to the time of the Vietnam War. James Conrads classic novella
Heart of Darkness is a tale about a seaman who makes his way up the Congo river in search of a

Army officer that has been ordered to assassinate an insane American officer. He, too, must travel

The Negro Speaks Of Rivers Essay
Slavery has influenced how people of African descent went forth and lived life. In the poem The
Negro Speaks of Rivers , Langston Hughes tells a story of the black man s journey to America
while trying to hold on to his past. Hughes uses imagery and tone to create a picture that illustrated
racial pride and dignity. Phillis Wheatley, On Being Brought from Africato America describes the
positivity of being an American slave and the perks of Christianity. The major theme that runs
throughout these two poems are how someone views their own race. Though each poem is set
around the same time period, we can see two different effects of slaveryand it could change in an
person. Wheatley s On Being Brought from Africa to America has a lot of literary devices
within it and reading it out loud really helps you find them. There is some end rhyme like eye
die ; land understand ; and cain train . Lines 7 and 8 shows a heroic couplet; Remember,
Christians, Negros, black as Cain,/ May be refin d, and join th angelic train. Another big literary
device that could not be overlooked is personification. In the first line of the poem, the speaker
personifies mercy . The speaker is using the term mercy in a biblical notion and in that sense
mercy could not have physically picked the speaker up and carry him or her over to America. In
Langston Hughes The Negro speaks of Rivers , the speaker sets a tone while makes a connect
between him and the earth he lived on.

Tom Brokaw The Greatest Generation Analysis
The generation after World War 2 is what Tom Brokaw refers to as The Greatest Generation. The
Greatest Generation have gone and seen many important things in our history. This generation
handled things differently and had high standards and morals to live up to. This generation
developed personal values that they believed that helped them overcome many future problems.
This generation was so great because they developed personal values and helped the world and

Tom Brokaw was a news anchor for NBC Night News. Tom wrote a book in 1998 called The
Greatest Generation because he believed the generation after World War 2 was the greatest. He
said that it was the Greatest Generation any society has produced. He believes this because they
fought in the war and handled it so well. The Greatest Generation was too young to remember

Alexander McQueen is still known for his unique designs even after he s death. He was born in
London, England on March 17th 1969.
His fashion career started at the ripe age of 16, when he started working on Savile Row Street in
London s Mayfair district. There, he was employed with the tailor shop Anderson and Shephard,
and then Gieves and Hawkes. After a while, he began working with costume designers Angels and

At a very young age, Alexander was offered three apprenticeships that all consisted in construction

They restricted the movement of slaves and regulated slave owners. They implemented the codes

The One Child Policy And Gender Bias
Everyday, people talk about major global issues, such as the economy, access to better health care,
and education. However, one major issue that still needs to be addressed in particular is access to
education for women in various countries. Women s access to education is more limited in China in
comparison to the access to education in the United States, due to the one child policy and gender
bias. Women s access to education in China is much more limited than it is to women in the
United States and one main reason for this is something called the one child policy. The one child
policy basically states that families in China are only allowed to have one child. Before the one
child policy existed, parents had families with more than one child; this often led to parents
favoring the malechild (Lee, 2012, p. 41). When parents favor their male child, this is referred to
as son preference and son preference is something that has continued in China among most parents
for centuries (Lee, 2012, p. 41). Male children, therefore, are preferred and more privileged, leaving
little or no opportunity for the femalechildren to progress educationally. This gender bias has
resulted in significant gender inequalities in many respects, such as the large gap in the literacy
rate or in educational attainment between the genders (Lee, 2012, p. 41). Both the gender bias and
son preference have led to the wide literacy gap as a consequence and this is something that needs
to change. If a

covered in mp MRI imaging. They used to perform the database for correlating Gleason score with

The main limitation and drawback in our study was that our results were compared to biopsy
proven Gleason score not to post prostatectomy pathological results as only one of our patient
underwent radical prostatectomy and rest of patients are non compatible to surgery either due to
metastasis, old age or patient refusal.
Second, our study are small (n =11) and ADC values correlation to biopsy proven Gleason score
was done using only 66 core biopsy result, So larger studies are necessary to better assess our
results.
We recommend in later studies to use larger samples and compare the DWI ADC results to post
prostatectomy pathological results so we can correlate the results to accurate Gleason score and
even detect central gland carcinoma pathologically to compare with DWI MRI results.
In conclusion our results prove high p values for correlating mean ADC value to Gleason score
and median ADC values can be used as non invasive grading method for prostate cancer.

Christians live their life by the word of God. They take the Bible and the contents within and hold

foundation by which they live their lives. The verses within Exodus 20 give Christians commands
on how to live their lives but, Exodus 20 is not the only chapter in the Biblethat gives Christians
commands that they must follow. Later in the Bible, in Leviticus 20:27, the Bible says, A man or

Darwin’s Theory of Natural Selection Versus Creationism Essay
My research of Darwinian evolution has led me to believe that there is little room for spirituality
of any kind in a truly rigorous scientific theory of the origin of life. This is disconcerting, to say the
least. Obviously we have outgrown a strictly creationist lens, but has religion become completely
obsolete? Does spirituality have a real place amongst the scientific tenets of evolutionary theory, or
is it merely a crutch that we lean on? Can God and Darwin co exist?

impossible to ignore. However, there is a neo creationist school of thought, called intelligent design,
attempting to modernize the concept of a God to fit the challenge ... Show more content on

Are the gaps in our knowledge of the origin of species large enough to allow for intelligent design?
Despite several inconsistencies, the facts seem inescapably stacked in favor of natural selection.
The fossil record is a good example. Though it is incomplete, the various geographic strata contain a
wealth of extinct organisms which exhibit distinct evolutionary trends. These include
morphological similarities between older species and those that exist today, in both adult and
embryo forms.
The implications of this analysis of the fossil record are not good for creationism. The species that
exist today were not simply placed on Earth in their current condition, but have come to be over
hundreds of millions of years of adaptation. Ernst Mayr states that embryonic similarities,
recapitulation, and vestigial structures raise insurmountable difficulties for a creationist
explanation, but are fully compatible with an evolutionary explanation based on common descent,
variation, and selection. (31) Mayr is unrelenting in his support of evolution by natural selection, as
are the majority of scientists and anthropologists.
Critics of intelligent design argue that any creationist explanation cannot be purely scientific
because it is necessary to consider the likelihood of the existence of a higher Intelligence. In other
words, until it is proven that there is a God, these theories leave something to be desired.

Battle of Bemis Heights on October 7th 1777 that were battled in Saratoga County New York.
Major General John Burgoyne presented to the King and Secretary of State for the Colonies
Lord George Germain a way he thought would be successful in splitting New England to stop
the colonies from joining forces and revolting. (Tucker, 53) The idea Burgoyne had was a three

Gastric Acid Secretion Research Paper
Gastric acid production and secretion
Gastric acid secretion is said to be a complex process regulated by hormonal and neural pathways
(Ceglia et al. 2008). This paper would try to decipher the pathophysiology of gastric acid secretion
and explain the changes process in different types of disorders such as gastritis, peptic ulcer
disease, and gastroesophageal reflux disease.
To begin talking about acid production and secretion, we have first to consider talking about the
physiology of the stomach. The stomach consists of three basic parts, the fundus the body and the
antrum, which are divided into two glandular regions, the oxyntic, and pyloric mucosa (Lewis,
Heitkemper and Dirksen, 2014). In the oxyntic gland mucosa, lays the parietal cells, ... Show more

Some common disorders associated with gastric acid secretion are gastroesophageal reflux disease
(GERD), peptic ulcer disease (PUD), and gastritis. For example, in gastroesophageal reflux
disease, high gastric contents enter and remain in the lower part of the esophagus due to weakened
esophageal sphincter, abdominal pressure, hiatal hernia, alcohol consumption or cigarettes
smoking. Usually, the lower esophageal sphincter maintains enough pressure around the lower end
of the esophagus to close it and prevent reflux (McPhee and Hammer, 2012). Sometimes the
pressure in the stomach exceeds the pressure in the esophagus, causes the sphincter to open and
gastric contents penetrate the esophagus which cause pain and irritation. Peptic ulcer diseases
(PUD) and gastritis disorders, however; are primarily caused by bacterial infection with
helicobacter pylori and acid secretions also play a major role (McPhee and Hammer, 2012). Direct
alteration of signal transduction in mucosal and immune cells by H pylori infection may cause an
increase in acid secretion and diminish mucosal defenses (McPhee and Hammer,

Essay On A Diamond
With the rarity of oval cuts, it can be tough to find a diamond that makes a great engagement ring.
Luckily, if you love oval cut gemstones, you ll be able to find plenty of other rings with that shape.
Oval gemstones and diamond rings are more affordable than some other cuts like the brilliant
round, yet, they have a brighter shine and look larger than the round cut. It s a surprise how
many people will go with a traditional round when they could get a larger stone with an oval.
Along with more gem for the dollar, women also get the added bonus an oval cut that makes the
finger appear slimmer. You really can t beat the oval cut. Now, we ll proceed with some of our

Anthem Protests In Anthem Protests
National Anthem protests started on August 14th, 2016 with Colin Kaepernick sitting on the bench
during the national anthem. This continued for another two games before he talked to former
Green Beret and former NFL player Nate Boyer about the best way to make his point without
disrespecting the military; Kaepernick then began taking a knee instead of simply sitting on the
bench during games beginning on November 1st, 2016. There has been talk across the nation from
last year into this year about whether or not this protesting should be happening, and about what the
protesting was legitimately about, with even the president weighing in on the matter; everyone
seems to have an opinion about the issue. But the National Anthem protests should stop because
they have goals that are vague and unclear; refusing to stand is disrespectful to soldiers and
veterans alike; and refusing to stand makes people too angry to consider the message behind the
protest, effectively stopping any progress that could be made by the protests.
We have all heard of the National Anthem protests in the NFL at this point, but if you went
around and asked different people around you what the goals of these protests are, you would
draw a couple of answers. One answer you would receive would be that the protests are against
Donald Trump, which might make you scratch your head in wonder: why would people think that?
Perhaps as a result of Trump s long railing tweets about how NFL players that don t stand

The Movie Hunger by Steve McQueen
Hunger (2008) Steve McQueen
Film Analysis
Rooted in the 1981 Irish hunger strike, artist Steve McQueen s brutally raw film Hunger retraces
the crusade of Provisional Irish Republican Army prisoners who desired Special Category Status
while imprisoned at Maze Compound Prison. Starting near the middle of a four year long
stalemate, McQueen s triptych follows the routine of a prison guard, Raymond Lohan, the
introduction of a new, IRA, non conforming prisoner Davey Gillen into the dirty protest , and
culminates with Bobby Sands, the IRA commanding officer inside Maze who volunteers to be the
first of many prisoners to go on a hunger strike for SCS, and is the first to die sixty six days later.
Through visceral scenes depicting extraordinary situations, Hunger reminds audiences of the battle
of attrition that was fought thirty years before, and how people dealt with decisions that politicians
made, and the environments which are created from those decisions, which they had to survive in.
Instead of taking a side in the conflict, Hunger portrays what one critic describes a probing,
clinical, oddly beautiful examination of one man s decision to die, to face the moment that we all
must, on his own terms.
The standoff in Maze Prison was borne from conflict during The Troubles, an extremely violent
period in the political conflict waged between republicans and nationalists, who wanted to see
Northern Ireland, a province of the United Kingdom, unified with the

It was the end of February. The day of the District Championship between Southern Boone and

When Veda suffers a loss or encounters tragedy in her life, she doesn t, usually, ask for help. The
way Veda copes with loss is either by crying, solitude, or going with Thomas J. Throughout the
movie, when Veda is upset, she rushes to Thomas J s house to see if he wanted to hang out ot id
he was available to talk. Ince Thomas J. passed away,Veda visited a tree to think about life by
herself. I really liked this movie a lot until Thomas J. died. It seems a bit messed up to have a
young child die in a movie. I understand that the director might be trying to send a message
about how fragile life is, but I think it was a little too much trauma for a coming of age movie. The
movie made me cry because of personal reasons, as well. My mother s mom died when she was 13
years old and gave me a glimpse into what her life was life. It was difficult in my opinion. All in all,

Why Is Plastic Surgery Wrong
Plastic surgery has been a hot button issue in recent years because of the debate of how far
procedures can and should go. TV shows like Botched highlight how plastic surgeries can go
wrong and make someone look fake, but that is a rarer scenario than media perceives it to be.
Because of media s prevalence in our lives, we often see plastic surgeryas fake and those who seek
it faker. Not all the people who seek plastic surgeryare doing it in vain. They often are seeking to
better themselves. The truth is media pushes a negative impact on the perception of plastic surgery
and the hides benefits plastic surgery can have.
Celebrities like Ariel Winter from ABC s Modern Family face ridicule within the plastic surgery
debate as described by Winters in an interview with Glamour magazine. Winter, at the age of 17,
faced societal pressure to do something about her size F breasts. She described her situation in
the eye of the media as having so little to wear that s age appropriate which would lead to
backlash for dressing too maturely in form fitting clothes. Social media has its own mockery.
Winter described it as The Internet bullies are awful. I could post a photo where I feel good, and
500 people will comment about how fat I am and that I am disgusting . Winters felt as though the
media targeted her based off of her appearance rather than her accomplishments as a young actress.
This behavior by media is troublesome because it leads to people outside of high publicity

  • 2. Many Graduate with a Higher National Diploma Presented some 45 years ago the higher national diploma course made minute influence to the education of professional engineers until the Second World War; and it was about 10 years ago that the number of diplomas endowed approached the number sitting the Institution s own examinations. Since then, nevertheless, the growth has been remarkable and today about 40 per cent of those qualifying as mechanical engineers by full time or sandwich study do so through the Higher National Diploma. Originally, the standard of the final assessed examination was matching to that of the H.N.C. though, of course, in more subjects and it was not known for H.N.C. and H.N.D. students to share the same class. Today, however, the standards are very much higher and method those of universitydegrees. It is often overlooked that the university year is shorter than college year, and that classes tend to finish well before examination period; so that, the H.N.D. course duration of some 2000 hours or so is much the same as that in a full time university degree sequence. The increase in numbers in recent years is undoubtedly due to the recognition accorded by industry to the merits of the course. Firms have been able to recruit students unacceptable to the university, and sponsor them on a course which not only leads to a professional qualification, but which also has a smaller rate and an output capable of undertaking responsible work without reprocessing. Another advantage is that the study ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He was known for writing letters to police after a murder that offered information that nobody knew. Eventually the murders and letters stopped, then in 2004 Rader sent another letter to police claiming responsibility for a murder that was not connected to him before. There was also a link to a Lutheran Church that Rader was a part of. After police did a search including Dennis and Lutheran Church, they found that the church has a deacon named Dennis Rader. Dennis Rader was known to write letters that were sent to police and news agencies about the murders. These letters would include how the crime scene was set up, what the people were tied up with, and how they were killed. Some of these letters and packages also had clues in them in different forms. He did this because he was seeking the fame that other killers such as Ted Bundy had received from the media. He sent one letter to a local news station that had hidden words in it that spelled out D. Rader and 6220 , which was his street address. However, the clues in his numerous letters would not give him away. Some of his clues were overlooked, some could not be deciphered, and some did not make sense with the investigation. What did give him away was a floppy disk that was sent to a local news agency. This document had data on it that named the author and brought them to the Lutheran church that Rader was a part of. • 10. Maytag Strategic Analysis I.Executive Summary Maytag Corporation was founded in 1893 by Fred L Maytag and two other men. The company built its first washing machine in 1907. From there the company quickly expanded into a national corporation. With the sweeping globalization movement of the 1990 s, Maytag has attempted to establish a presence as a global competitor in the appliance industry. As the company has tried to establish itself in the developing global marketplace, it has had difficulties. If any of these forces change, a company must reassess its marketplace. The five forces include: the threat of substitute products, the threat of the entry of new competitors, the intensity of competitive rivalry, the bargaining power of customers and the bargaining power of suppliers. Porter s five forces can be used to analyze Maytag. First, the threat of substitute products is low. The only substitute for a washing machine is a large sink and a great deal of manual labor. Many of the appliances have substitutes, but because those substitutes are so old and outdated there is not a threat from them. Second, the threat of entry of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. John Stuart Mill s Qualitative Hedonism Essay In this hypothetical, two options are given. A person may choose from being reincarnated as Haydn, a famous musical composer, for 77 years. Or one may live as an Oyster, and decide for themselves however long they want to live. An oyster would experience unlimited years of a feeling that is near that of floating drunk in a bathtub. As Haydn, a person would experience the highs and the lows of life. Haydn composed many symphonies, and was a celebrity in his day as a musical composer. With being famous and influential, comes low times and struggles as well. The decision is between a painless life of small satisfaction, or a mix between extreme satisfaction and extreme lows. Two well known philosophers have very different thought processes, when it comes to this thought experiment. Jeremy Benthamand John Stuart Millare their names. I side with John Stuart Mill s qualitative hedonism. I believe that his theory is more plausible. I believe this because in my life I have encountered the joy of higher pleasure and am certain it is much better than that of a lower pleasure. Jeremy Bentham s quantitative hedonism is a viewpoint that quantity, intensity, and duration of pleasures determines the value of that pleasure. Bentham argues that happiness is the ultimate good. He argues that the definition of happiness is pleasure accompanied by an avoidance of pain. Jeremy Bentham believed that creating the greatest combined happiness was the key to correct moral behavior. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This drastically changed christians lives, before they had suffered huge amounts of persecution. In Rome today still stands the Coliseum, to which the christians were fed to the lions as entertainment. Constantine, under the influence of his epiphany, changed this. He believed his victory at the battle of Milvian Bridge was a sign from God and as a result he enforced christianity as the main religion of Rome . It challenged the divinity of God the father and God the son, which were the very foundations of the Christian Church. The son was therefore subsequently inferior to the Father. He goes further to suggest that it both the father and the son are eternal beings in their own right; then arguably there are two Gods this goes against the original monotheism of the church and argued that this was inaccurate, as the church was meant to be monotheism. The creed was open to interpretation and the church was unable to explain the trinity. • 15. The Presence Of Natural Resources Name Institution Course Unit Lecturer Date Introduction The presence of natural resources in a country is supposed to a positive addition towards realizing development goals. Both economic and social development is supposed to benefit from approximated revenues that are to be generated from mining industries. However, the views that natural resources are a major source of economic and social growth has been scrutinized over the past decade, with the rising number of countries where resources expectations have not been met having contributed to these reviews (Collier). These reviews have led to the emergence of two major views with regards to the relationship that exist between natural resources and general national development. These views are; the conventional view and the alternative view. The conventional view holds that there still exist a positive relationship between natural resources and growth while the alternative view uses the examples of countries where growth has declined or stalled after discovery of natural resources. The alternative describes what is regarded as the resources curse (Davis). This discussion paper will discuss the relationship that exists between natural resources, governance and national growth. In doing this, North Korea will be used a case study while seeking to identify the resources that are found in the country, their status and the avenues through which the resource curse can be avoided. They are Romanticism, or the Romantic Movement and Realism, including regionalism and naturalists (Miller, 534 38). The Romantic Movement, also known as romanticism, took place in the early 1800 s. Rather than write about the lives of ordinary people, romantics dealt with the romance of life. They appealed to sentiment and imagination rather than reality (Miller, 534). The essence of Romanticism is a belief in the power and validity of human emotions as a means of knowing and a guide to life. Instead of following the previous periods belief in a ruling class as the center of power, romantics believed that power existed among all people. This was due to every humans capability to learn through emotional experiences, regardless of stature (Roberts, 1032). Romantic writers not only glorified these beliefs but the past as well, so it made sense that the Romantic Movement was partly a reaction to the Enlightenment Movement of the 1700 s. The people of the Enlightenment emphasized reason and progresses the way romantics lived off of emotion and instinct (Miller, 534). In addition to reacting to the past, Romanticism undoubtedly reflected many ideas of the, then, present (Roberts, 1032). The American and French Revolutions, with their emphases on the common man and representative government, influenced the Romantic Movement (Roberts, 1032). The Cuban Revolution began in 1952 when a former army sergeant named Fulgencio Batista seized power during a contested election. Fulgencio was the elected president of Cubafrom 1940 to 1944 and dictator from 1952 to 1959. Another one of Cuba s important men is Fidel Castro. According to the National Snow and Ice Data Center, about 15 million square miles of land are covered by ice, which means that 10 percent of the land on Earth is ice. If all the ice were to melt, sea levels would rise about 200 feet, and coastal cities would be completely submerged underwater. Billions of people would be homeless, and the habitats and lives of wildlife would be doomed. That is why I have proposed that we set up fans everywhere we can. By setting up fans everywhere we can, the cold air produced will cool down Earth s temperatures and reverse the process of global warming. If this plan is implemented, then climate change will be a thing of the past. According to Merriam Webster Dictionary, a fan is an apparatus with rotating blades that creates a current of air for cooling or ventilation . They are powered by a motor and work by moving the air in front of the fan. This movement creates a breeze and chills the area. In the summertime, my grandma uses a fan when her room gets too warm. Why can t we apply this logic to combat the global warming of this room we call Earth? There are many options to utilize the power of fans. One option is to set up enormous fans along the coastlines. Every major city on the coastline will have a giant fan. They will install the fan onto a dock and will constantly have it blowing, even in the wintertime. If the average fan is 16 inches and has a wind speed of 7.2 meters/seconds, then a fan 10,000 times the size of an average fan will generate a wind speed of 72,000 m/s. Scientist Matthew Jones says, that the combined amount of wind speed from every city will be enough to drop Earth s temperature by 0.5п‚° F. Although people may argue ... As early as the 1960s renowned scientists such as Good and Neumann theorized of an intelligence explosion, now known as the technology singularity, resulting from intelligent machines designing their next generation without human intervention. This idea of artificial intelligence (AI) has grown immensely and is a common topic amongst scholars, scientists, and theorists in the mathematic and scientific world. The key idea underlying the impending Singularity is that the pace of change of our human created technology is accelerating and its powers are expanding at an exponential pace. Exponential growth is deceptive. It starts out almost imperceptibly and then explodes with unexpected fury unexpected, that is, if one does not take care to follow its trajectory (Kurzweil, 8, 2005). Ray Kurzweil a scientist, inventor, author, and current director of engineering at Google is the leading theorist of the Singularity. So what is the singularity you ask? Most simply put Kurzweil defines it as, a future period during which the pace of technological change will be so rapid, its impact so deep, that human life will be irreversibly transformed (Kurzweil, 2005, 7). Phillis Wheatley, On Being Brought from Africato America describes the positivity of being an American slave and the perks of Christianity. However, one major issue that still needs to be addressed in particular is access to education for women in various countries. Women s access to education is more limited in China in comparison to the access to education in the United States, due to the one child policy and gender bias. Women s access to education in China is much more limited than it is to women in the United States and one main reason for this is something called the one child policy. The one child policy basically states that families in China are only allowed to have one child. Before the one child policy existed, parents had families with more than one child; this often led to parents favoring the malechild (Lee, 2012, p. 41). When parents favor their male child, this is referred to as son preference and son preference is something that has continued in China among most parents for centuries (Lee, 2012, p. 41). Male children, therefore, are preferred and more privileged, leaving little or no opportunity for the femalechildren to progress educationally. This gender bias has resulted in significant gender inequalities in many respects, such as the large gap in the literacy rate or in educational attainment between the genders (Lee, 2012, p. 41). Both the gender bias and son preference have led to the wide literacy gap as a consequence and this is something that needs to change. If a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Even the other three sports have their first round games on network television. But some people who even have cable, can t watch a first round game of hockey in the playoffs. Also, the way that the NHL is covered in the newspapers and on TV is different to that of other sports. When you read the newspaper the only time that you will see a hockey game make the front page of the sports section is in the local paper when the local team is winning. If they are not winning or not in the playoffs, you will not read much about hockey. And the same thing goes for the newscasts . When they do the sports, the only time that they will talk about hockey first is if the local team had a big win or is in the playoffs. These problems aren t just in the NHL and professional. It also goes down to college hockey. If you live in this area, the only time you will be able to watch c college hockey game is during the Final Four. Which, ironically, is also ... • 37. Exodus 20 Research Paper Christians live their life by the word of God. They take the Bible and the contents within and hold the contents as the guidelines by which they live their lives. The Bible, in Exodus 20, gives Christians the Ten Commandments. Christians take the Ten Commandments and make those the foundation by which they live their lives. The verses within Exodus 20 give Christians commands on how to live their lives but, Exodus 20 is not the only chapter in the Biblethat gives Christians commands that they must follow. Later in the Bible, in Leviticus 20:27, the Bible says, A man or woman who is a medium or spiritist among you must be put to death (Holy Bible). What this verse is saying is that anyone involved in magic must be put to death. But does that truly mean anyone? The story of Harry Potter is centered around magic which naturally fuels Christian opposition towards it, but underneath the magic the story shares similar morals and guidelines that Christians align themselves with. This verse among others has been the driving force of Christian... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What was Professor Dumbledore implying by this? Professor Dumbledore was passing on his knowledge, to Harry, that maybe life does not end with death. This goes along with the theme of some type of immortality within the series because of the talking portraits or ghosts. What does the Bible have to say about this? Well in 1 John 2:17 it says, The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever (Holy Bible). Obviously no one lives on forever physically, so is this verse implying that there is life after death spiritually? Christians would say yes to that question. • 38. Darwin’s Theory of Natural Selection Versus Creationism Essay My research of Darwinian evolution has led me to believe that there is little room for spirituality of any kind in a truly rigorous scientific theory of the origin of life. This is disconcerting, to say the least. Obviously we have outgrown a strictly creationist lens, but has religion become completely obsolete? Does spirituality have a real place amongst the scientific tenets of evolutionary theory, or is it merely a crutch that we lean on? Can God and Darwin co exist? The constantly mounting collection of evidence for evolution by natural selection is almost impossible to ignore. However, there is a neo creationist school of thought, called intelligent design, attempting to modernize the concept of a God to fit the challenge ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Are the gaps in our knowledge of the origin of species large enough to allow for intelligent design? Despite several inconsistencies, the facts seem inescapably stacked in favor of natural selection. The fossil record is a good example. Though it is incomplete, the various geographic strata contain a wealth of extinct organisms which exhibit distinct evolutionary trends. These include morphological similarities between older species and those that exist today, in both adult and embryo forms. The implications of this analysis of the fossil record are not good for creationism. The species that exist today were not simply placed on Earth in their current condition, but have come to be over hundreds of millions of years of adaptation. Ernst Mayr states that embryonic similarities, recapitulation, and vestigial structures raise insurmountable difficulties for a creationist explanation, but are fully compatible with an evolutionary explanation based on common descent, variation, and selection. (31) Mayr is unrelenting in his support of evolution by natural selection, as are the majority of scientists and anthropologists. Critics of intelligent design argue that any creationist explanation cannot be purely scientific because it is necessary to consider the likelihood of the existence of a higher Intelligence. In other words, until it is proven that there is a God, these theories leave something to be desired. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Gastric Acid Secretion Research Paper Gastric acid production and secretion Gastric acid secretion is said to be a complex process regulated by hormonal and neural pathways (Ceglia et al. 2008). This paper would try to decipher the pathophysiology of gastric acid secretion and explain the changes process in different types of disorders such as gastritis, peptic ulcer disease, and gastroesophageal reflux disease. To begin talking about acid production and secretion, we have first to consider talking about the physiology of the stomach. The stomach consists of three basic parts, the fundus the body and the antrum, which are divided into two glandular regions, the oxyntic, and pyloric mucosa (Lewis, Heitkemper and Dirksen, 2014). In the oxyntic gland mucosa, lays the parietal cells, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some common disorders associated with gastric acid secretion are gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), peptic ulcer disease (PUD), and gastritis. For example, in gastroesophageal reflux disease, high gastric contents enter and remain in the lower part of the esophagus due to weakened esophageal sphincter, abdominal pressure, hiatal hernia, alcohol consumption or cigarettes smoking. Usually, the lower esophageal sphincter maintains enough pressure around the lower end of the esophagus to close it and prevent reflux (McPhee and Hammer, 2012). Sometimes the pressure in the stomach exceeds the pressure in the esophagus, causes the sphincter to open and gastric contents penetrate the esophagus which cause pain and irritation. Peptic ulcer diseases (PUD) and gastritis disorders, however; are primarily caused by bacterial infection with helicobacter pylori and acid secretions also play a major role (McPhee and Hammer, 2012). This continued for another two games before he talked to former Green Beret and former NFL player Nate Boyer about the best way to make his point without disrespecting the military; Kaepernick then began taking a knee instead of simply sitting on the bench during games beginning on November 1st, 2016. There has been talk across the nation from last year into this year about whether or not this protesting should be happening, and about what the protesting was legitimately about, with even the president weighing in on the matter; everyone seems to have an opinion about the issue. But the National Anthem protests should stop because they have goals that are vague and unclear; refusing to stand is disrespectful to soldiers and veterans alike; and refusing to stand makes people too angry to consider the message behind the protest, effectively stopping any progress that could be made by the protests. We have all heard of the National Anthem protests in the NFL at this point, but if you went around and asked different people around you what the goals of these protests are, you would draw a couple of answers. • 44. The Movie Hunger by Steve McQueen Hunger (2008) Steve McQueen Film Analysis Rooted in the 1981 Irish hunger strike, artist Steve McQueen s brutally raw film Hunger retraces the crusade of Provisional Irish Republican Army prisoners who desired Special Category Status while imprisoned at Maze Compound Prison. Starting near the middle of a four year long stalemate, McQueen s triptych follows the routine of a prison guard, Raymond Lohan, the introduction of a new, IRA, non conforming prisoner Davey Gillen into the dirty protest , and culminates with Bobby Sands, the IRA commanding officer inside Maze who volunteers to be the first of many prisoners to go on a hunger strike for SCS, and is the first to die sixty six days later. Through visceral scenes depicting extraordinary situations, Hunger reminds audiences of the battle of attrition that was fought thirty years before, and how people dealt with decisions that politicians made, and the environments which are created from those decisions, which they had to survive in. Instead of taking a side in the conflict, Hunger portrays what one critic describes a probing, clinical, oddly beautiful examination of one man s decision to die, to face the moment that we all must, on his own terms. The standoff in Maze Prison was borne from conflict during The Troubles, an extremely violent period in the political conflict waged between republicans and nationalists, who wanted to see Northern Ireland, a province of the United Kingdom, unified with the ...
