Andrew Johnson s Political Impact
The Political Impact of Andrew Johnson s Presidency
Andrew Johnson s leniency towards the rebellious South left the Republican Party in disarray. With
conflicting approaches in regards to Southern Reconstruction, Andrew Johnson and the Republican
Party clashed throughout Johnson s presidency. Johnson would eventually be rejected by both the
Republican and the Democratic parties when his term had ended. This opened an opportunity for
Ulysses S. Grant to run for office, who had little regard for a president s power.
The Political Impact of Rutherford B. Hayes Presidency

After his election, Cleveland would appoint many Southerners to a number of posts, thus furthering
his relationship with southern states. Due to his success in office and his publicity, Cleveland
brought the Democratic Party back into relevancy. Although Cleveland failed in his first attempt to
be re elected, due to his proposal of lowering tariffs, he would later win his second election, being
the first president to be re elected in non consecutive terms.
The Social Impact of Benjamin Harrison s Presidency
With the push to transition into a bimetallic standard, Benjamin Harrison finally acted upon this
request by signing the Sherman Silver Purchase Act, which would significantly raise the price of
silver. While this act appealed to the popular opinion, the shift towards a bimetallic standard
brought forth a panic that could only be ended by repealing the Sherman Silver Purchase Act.
The Social Impact of Grover Cleveland s Second Term in Office
Grover Cleveland s hands off approach in office did little to help the nation during the economic
depression that had occurred during his time in office. His second term was considered an
underachievement due to this. The reduction of tariffs only worsened this depression, leaving
Mckinley with the job to force America out of this economic

The Impact Of Internet Legislation On The Internet
The goal of the legislation was to improve the access of the internet and to allow the consumers
to receive equal access to all internet sites no matter what provider they are using. This allows
people to select the applications or sites they wish to get their information, giving them a
freedom not many have. As shown before these companies have been fined and reprimanded for
breaking the law, however this brings forth a probe to see if this policy been successful in
creating an equal internet for the consumer. According to CBS NL it states that the dutch
legislation raised the over population of 84% avidly use the internet in 2012 versus the 78% of
people in 2005. The statistics presented by the Central Bureau voor de Statistiek (CBS) show that
as the internet evolved people became more dependent on the internet leading to an expansion of
people using the internet (CBS 2012). Additionally, the Netherlands holds the highest percentage
of internet users than in most developed countries in Europe (CBS). However, as we see that
more people in the Netherlands use the internet ISPs also introduced a raise in prices to help with
the lost revenue the law created. Although consumers were being charged more many advocates
still see it as a victory by stopping ISPs from raising the prices significantly higher than the are now
creating a consensus between the ISPs and its consumers.

A Strong Response Reflective Essay
Strong Response Reflective essay
You are confined only by the walls you build yourself, such a short phrase with an enormous
meaning. Isolation is increasing immensely in my life since social media is taking such a huge roll
in it. I notice the continuous blank stare at my phone as I roam the halls of Florida International
University. It s like my social anxiety is a broken leg and my cellphone is my crutch. My
cellphone brings me so much comfort, although I am comforted, I feel so disconnected with the
world. Learning is much easier through social media websites. I am so anti social not only around
school, but with myself. Bringing me to the conclusion that social media is a negative impact in my
daily life for more than one reason. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After a few weeks, I decide that it is time to put my phone down and begin to make more
connections. For the first time, I walk around Graham Center with a smile on my face. I am
ready to start conversations I have urged to begin with my FIU peers and professors. I feel this
explosion of happiness as questions, conversations, and sign up sheets are being thrown my
way. To my astonishment, these students are taking an interest in me because my eyes aren t
locked to my cellphone. Jessica Winter states Instagram messes more with your sense of time
and I couldn t agree more. I have been wasting precious time on social media that I can use to
grow my circle here at FIU instead. Filters and likes are all people seek on social media, but my
thumbs and mind take over me and give them what they want. This time it seems someone is
letting me borrow a spare key to unlock the handcuffs that chain my cellphone and I together.
Sitting down in class, I witness my professor coming through the door. He is ready to bring us
new information that I can t seem to understand sometimes. As our professor gets more in depth
with our lesson, hands are preparing to launch like a rocket ship. These students are ready to blast
off with questions that they plead answers for. I quietly say to myself that there is no need to raise
my hand during class. Out of the forty students, why would my professor choose me when I have a

Dow Jones Research Paper
The Dow Jones is a stock index that includes thirty blue chip stocks, which are the superior public
companies on the stock market. The Dow helps show how the stock market is fairing as a whole.
It was invented by Charles Dow an American Journalist and one of his business partners Edward
Jones who was a statistician in 1896. The thirty stocks on the Dow Jones Industrial Averageare price

The Dow Jones hit a low in the Summer of 1896 when it hit a price of 28.48 causing what would
be known as the Panic of 1896. Which was a short lived economic depression caused by a drop
in silver reserves this along with deflation in the cost of commodities sent the stock market
prices tumbling down. There were many economic panics such as this one in the early 1900 s
which really stunted the growth of the Dow Jones early on. Because of this on July 30th, 1914
the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) was shut down for four and a half months in fear that the

Determining The Chemical Formula For Two Hydrates Through...
The goals of the experiment are to determine the chemical formulas for two hydrates through
dehydration. Introduction: A chemical equation demonstrates the quantity of atoms of every
component that make up the compound. The atomic proportion of components in the compound is
the same as the molar proportion of those components. This information can be applied to solve for
the mass of one mole of a compound by including the molar masses of the constituent components.
Hydrates are combinations that are salts with water particles synthetically clung to them. Really, the
holding is intriguing in that the water particles bond specifically to the metal cation. Hydrates fall

We could have possibly achieved our expected results if we had allowed the Zinc Sulfate
Hydrate to cool down for those extra four minutes. The experimental error in this lab included
the question whether the digital scale was as precise as it could be, how the cooling time
affected the water in the hydrates, and any miscalculations that could have occurred. The digital
scale could have been more precise since they are more precise scales that could deliver more
accurate masses in this lab. The cooling time caused error when calculating the moles of water
because the actual result was seven moles instead of five moles which was what was calculated.
The calculations could have been potentially miscalculated particularly due to the significant
figures used in the data. The method for this experiment can be improved by maybe using another
object rather than the crucible to allow a faster cooling time that way the calculations for the

Initiation And Propagation In Cerebellar Purkinje Neurons...
Initiation and Propagation in Cerebellar Purkinje Neurons
Baylee LaBree
University of New Hampshire
Introduction Neural processing is discerned as dendritic input followed by electrical transmission
and axonal neurotransmitter output. In the axon of Purkinje cells, lie simple and complex spikes. It
is here where the initiation of whether action potentials within neurons initiate at the axon initial
segment (AIS) or at the first node of Ranvier within cerebellar Purkinje neurons (Palmer, Clark,
Gründemann, Roth, Stuart, Häusser, 2010). Studies have suggested that loss of Purkinje neuron
density could significantly decrease motor function. These studies focus on those with alcohol
abuse and neurodegenerative diseases within mice ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another study looked at mice hippocampal pyramidal neurons. At higher temperatures the
hyperpolarized voltage sodium channels at the AIS contributed to increased excitability. This AIS
excitability contributed to increased heat related seizures, which offered that sodium channels play
a role in febrile seizures (Wimmer, Reid, Mitchell, Richards, Scaf, Leaw, Petrou, 2010). Another
mice oriented study focused on ion channel regulation in the axon initial segment. This study found
that dopaminergic signaling can control neuronal output through calcium channels (Bender, Ford,
Trussell, 2010).
Materials and Methods To test the hypothesis that all axon potentials initiate in the AIS, voltage
sensitive dye was injected to obtain whole cell somatic recordings. Transgenic mice that expressed
green fluorescent protein or enhanced green fluorescent protein were used for the purpose of
neuron selection. Parasagittal slices of the cerebellar were examined with a confocal imaging
system to ensure absolute neuron morphology. Selected neurons were loaded with voltage
sensitive dye through a glass patch electrode, and whole cell recordings were taken under IR DIC
video microscopy. The neuron was stained via glass patch in room temperature for 20 50 minutes to
ensure optimum uptake into the cell, after staining the selected neuron was incubated at room
temperature for 1 1.5 hours. The soma was illuminated with a 450mW microscope, the fluorescence

Fast Plants and Mendel s Theories of Inheritance
Abstract
The Brassica rapa is a fast plant known as the field mustard. This plant is well known for its rapid
growing rate, which makes it an easy breeding cycle and easy to pollinate. In giving so this makes
Brassica rapa a great participant for testing Gregor Mendel s theories of inheritance. The Brassica
rapa acts like a test subject in testing cross pollination giving the understanding to the dominant
allele of colored stems. There are different colors that are visible on the stem that are above the soil;
the colors vary from green to purple. P1 seed was ordered, germinated and cross pollinated until

Add three seeds to the potting mix and cover seeds with little remaining potting mix. After the
addition of the potting mix, use a dropper filled with water and water each cell until water drips
from the wick. Then place the quads on a watering tray under the fluorescent light bank. Each cell
should have an equal distance from the light bank. Quads should be three inches below the
fluorescent light; the light should also be left on all day. Make sure all wicks are in contact with
the mat that sits on the watering tray. Also watch out for the watering system regularly
throughout the experiment. After four to five days record plants in the quads, giving their
phenotypes in a table for each cell removed all but the strongest plant. At about day 14, two or
three flowers open on most plants in which one begins pollinating as followed. Simply use a
small fine tipped paintbrush and cross pollinate all four plants with each other. Repeat the same
step, in four days going. After the third pollination carefully remove all unopened buds by
pinching them. Take away all new buds for the next two weeks or as necessary. Seeds are now

The Caster Chronicles by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl
Since I was a kid I have been fascinated by the imaginary world where there are magic, mythical
creatures and the freedom of having power to do what you want. My preference was fading until
the movie Beautiful Creatures, a film adaptation for the first novel in the series The Caster
Chronicles by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl. When it hit the theater, I watched it and decided to
read the next novelin the series called Beautiful Darkness .
Published by Little, Brown on October 12, 2010, Beautiful Darkness is a 528 page young adult
fantasy and romance novel. The story continued with the recovering of two main characters, Ethan
Wate, a mortal and Lena Duchannes, a caster. Despite their different species, they fell in lovethe
first time they saw each other at Jackson High School, and confronted many challenges from
Lena s malicious mom, Sarafine Duchannes, and a family curse. Personally, I am a very selective
reader, but it was such a riveting, gripping novel that it only took 5 days to complete. The
combination of the roller coaster love story, the fighting scene between dark and light, and the
adventurous way they conquer love has ranked the novel #3 on New York Times bestsellers.
The novel is told in first person by Ethan Wate. Ethan is a typical 16 year old boy growing up in
Gatlin with his parents until his mom passed away the previous summer. His dad had gone mad
and was sent to a mental hospital in town. He lives with Amarie Treadeau, nicknamed and better

`` Blue Moon Of Kentucky ``
From an American perspective, the color blue symbolizes and represents a multitude of social
and iconic aspects identified as uniquely Kentuckian. The Bluegrass State stands as one of the
most recognizable state monikers across the country, Blue Moon of Kentucky is a famous waltz
recorded by both Bluegrass musical creator Bill Monroe (as well as the king of rock Elvis
Presley), and chants of Go Big Blue!! echo across the state from those that support the University of
Kentuckys athletic programs. Lost to represent Kentucky citizens in this twentieth century
movement toward a more popular iconography are the sacrificial contributions for the Union cause
made by ordinary Kentuckians during the Civil War. As events unfolded in the 1860s domestic
crisis between the Blue and Gray, Kentucky s Appalachian residents provided a bastion of physical
and strategic support for those that marched and fought in the uniform of the darker hue. In 1897,
future President Theodore Roosevelt singled out Kentucky s Appalachian citizens impact on the
war proclaiming when the full history of the war is written we shall realize more than we do our
debt to the loyal people of the South...there (was) a larger proportion of descendants of
revolutionary soldiery in Kentucky than any other state... (who could) overflow from their
mountains and re enforce the nation.
Historians have produced numerous scholarly accounts about the American Civil War. These efforts

Personal Narrative Essay On Becoming Homeless
I don t know a lot about my father s past but I know it wasn t very pleasant. I know he was
homeless at some point in his life which I thought was brave. So, when I had the opportunity to
take a job at the University of Montana in the Corner Store, I did. I needed to make an income so I
my friend and I could get a place down there. The only bump in the road was that I had no place to
live if I went to Missoula. So, I ended up becoming homeless, like my dad, for a whole two nights.
Impressive, I know. I was extremely excited by the idea when it first popped in my head because it
was a new adventure. I figured it wouldn t be so hard and that I could handle it. I borrowed my

Walmart parking lot since the one I went to earlier didn t have a place as private as the last one. I
had to buy two new blankets since it got colder that night. I wanted to make sure that Cabhan and I
were going to be okay for the night. I think I was looking for another sort of comfort to help ease
my mind about the guy earlier that day; it didn t help that much though. I needed to take a shower
that day so I looked up a truck shop with showers. As I drove to the one I found I started to rethink
my decision. I wasn t happy and I was scared about my safety of me and my dog. I didn t have a
safe home or a comfortable place to be. I was on edge and my disability was making it worse to
deal with. I found the supposed truck stop but it did not offer any showers. So, I parked in a motel
and called my friend s dad who I was previously living with. I asked for advice and told him how I
was. In the end it was my decision to go home but he supported me

Sharon V. Salinger, Taverns and Drinking in Early America (Maryland: Johns Hopkins University
Press, 2002)
Most aspects of colonial life in early America are well talked about: housing, food, daily routine,
religion, etc. One of the more glossed over, yet interesting topics, is that of colonial drinking and
the taverns in which it takes place. Why did colonial Americans enjoy drinking so much? In
Sharon V. Salinger s, Taverns and Drinking in Early America, she outlines how drinking traditions
started and how it affected daily life and the impact it had on the people of early America. Salinger
s overview of the origins and developed habits of drinking in early America provides insight to the
different purposes the activity and taverns in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The overview of taverns and drinking and their great impact on daily life is obvious in the
evidence and narration Salinger provides. She uses a journal written by Thomas Jefferson to
explain how deeply entrenched in their daily lives taverns and drinking were: Thomas Jefferson
noted with alarm that cheap distilled spirits were spreading through the mass of our citizens, yet
he is credited with inventing the presidential cocktail party (3). Despite any negativity
surrounding drinking, its growth in popularity was unstoppable. She also adds the fact that water
was considered an unsafe beverage , which partially explains the reason for alcohol s rise to
popularity and appearance in the daily lives of early Americans. This increase in drinking also lead
to the tavern culture and the need to regulate it, which brings in the lawmaking side.
The thesis of Salinger s book and research states, Colonial taverns and hotels that developed from
elite taverns manifested an American society that maintained segregation in public by race, gender,
and class (245). Essentially, over the course of the eighteenth century colonial taverns grew
exclusionary, in time serving certain sections of society rather than the whole community. She
writes even at the very beginning of the text of the separation: In the urban taverns that served a
middle class and elite clientele, men gathered on a regular basis to transact business, argue over
issues of local politics, or share a convivial

Essential Operations Of Information Systems
The essential operations of information systems sustained by of critical infrastructure rely on the
explicit functionality of software applications supporting complex, interdependent, information
systems. The software application provides the virtual framework for information systems to
operate efficiently in a critical infrastructure. Information systems consistently communicate with
supplementary information systems positioned throughout the network to support the infrastructure
s essential operations. The dependence of software and information systems increases, as businesses
require additional systems to automate critical operations. However, the connectivity and
complexities of information systems supporting critical infrastructure increases the critical
infrastructure s exposure rate of software vulnerabilities to advanced persistent threats.
Conventionally, software application facilitates process involved in auditing, configuring and
distributing commands to augment interdependent information system performance.
The security and safety of the nation s critical infrastructure are significantly relying on measures
implemented to ensure software resiliency and dependability. According to statistics released by the
National Security Agency (NSA) chief General Keith Alexander in 2013, about 90 percent of the
nation s critical infrastructure is owned by the private sector, and therefore is not under the control
of the U.S. government or military. (Gripas, 2013) However,

Red Kayak Narrative
What would you do if you found out that your friends had committed a crime that caused a boy s
death? Would you turn them in even if you were slightly involved in the crime? Well that is the
predicament that the main character in Red Kayak faces. The major plot events in Red Kayak go
like this: Mrs. DiAngelo and her son Ben were in a kayaking accident, and Ben dies as a result,
leaving Brady, the main character, traumatized. Later, Brady finds out that his two friends, J.T.
and Digger caused the kayak to sink. Brady also remembers a day when the three of them were
swimming and Digger was acting angry at the DiAngelos for buying his grandfather s farm.
Brady had suggested to put holes in the kayak, so now Brady has to decide what to do because the
plan to sink the kayak was his idea. Things like this make Red Kayak a good example of realistic
fiction. Realistic fiction is a type of story that might really happen. The five elements of realistic
fiction are: credible events, authentic characters, real setting, true to life themes, and believable
dialogue. Credible events are events that could really happen. Authentic characters are characters
that develop over time. Real setting shows a setting that could really exist. True to life themes are
themes that could be applied to one s own life. And finally, believable dialogue contains realistic
conversations. Red Kayak is realistic fiction because of its credible events, authentic characters, and
true to life themes.
A reason why Red Kayak is considered realistic fiction is because of its credible events. One
credible event in Red Kayak is that Ben died because of being in a cold river for too long. On
pages 49 50, Brady s mom tells Brady Ben died... Brady responds by asking why did he die? Brady
s mom then says I don t know... I guess because he was in that cold water for so long. This is a
credible event because people do die at young ages like this. Not everyone can live a full life. In
short, Ben dying is a credible event because people do die in the real world.
Another way Red Kayak is an example of realistic fiction is because of its authentic characters. An
authentic character in Red Kayak is Digger. Something that support this is on page 107. Brady

Essay On The Crusades
The word crusade is from a French term that mean to lift the cross. The word is used to describe
the early military War or the campaigns by early Christians against Muslims. The Crusades were
military campaigns sanctioned by the Roman Catholic Church during the High and Late Medieval
Ages. In The year 1095, Pope Urban the Second proclaimed the First Crusade with the goal of
restoring Christian admission to holy places in and Around Jerusalem. Following this First Crusade
there was an alternating over 100 years struggle for dominance over the Holy Land, with seven

Muslim state that was very commanding. Saladin overthrew the crusaders easily and seized
back Jerusalem in September that year by cracking open the walls. The Saladin victory of the

major sources of Scandinavian mythology: the Elder Edda (Poetic Edda) and the Younger Edda

the 10th and 11th centuries, including Völuspá (The Seeress s Prophecy), Thrymskvida (Thyrm

where he negotiates with Thrym, who demands the goddess Freyja to be his wife as an

How Water Quality Is Important For The Health Of The...
Water quality is important to consider for streams, especially in an urban setting. It is important
to understand water quality not only for the health of the ecosystem, but also for humans who
drink the water and use the water for recreational purposes. In the city, it is difficult to maintain
adequate water quality standards because of factors like excessive pollutants from road runoff,
sediments, nutrients, and organic waste. The water levels are often sporadic and will vary by
land use such as a parking lot versus a park. A way to combat this problem is to manage or restore
the riparian zone by adding vegetation, encouraging infiltration, and reducing runoff rates. Five
sites in Austin, Texas were sampled, assessed, and analyzed to... Show more content on

restoration to be effective.
The Colorado River
The Colorado River had the highest water quality of all tested sites. The dissolved oxygen at
this site was 8.92 mg/L and could be attributed to a number of different reasons (Table 1). The
sample was taken when the sun was high and water dwelling plants had been photosynthesizing
for a number of hours. The water was flowing fairly quickly and there was a small riffle at the
area where the reading was taken which could have increased dissolved oxygen of the water. The
river had a rocky gravel bottom which provided plenty of habitat for the macroinvertebrates that
reside in the river. The variety of macroinvertebrates that were found were indicators of high water
quality; species included caddisflies, mayflies, stoneflies, and dragonfly larvae. The
macroinvertebrates were all very large specimens, indicating a healthy environment and plenty of
resources to support their growth.
The site examined was downstream of the Hornsby Bend Biosolids Plant. The high water quality
at the Colorado River site could be partially attributed to the Plant s ability to sanitize and reuse
wastes and prevent contamination through leakages of unclean water. The water at the Colorado
River site was cool despite only mediocre tree cover. The flow was quick in thinner parts of the
river and slowed when it widened out, giving

Allusion In The Starry Night
Being inspired by Vincent Van Gogh s illustrious painting Starry Night, Anne Sexton uses imagery,
metaphor, and allusion to write the poem The Starry Night which indicates her not only shares the
mental issue and suicide propensity with Vincent but also the deep desire for religion. Anne Sexton,
a great female poet, is diagnosed with depression and gets hard mental hit due to the death of her
aunt; thus, she attempts to suicide many times. Same as Vincent Van Gogh
, Anne also expresses her
feeling toward life and death in scene to release her gloominess. In her poem The Starry Night, she
fully develops her inner thoughts on alienation and loneliness. First of all, Anne uses metaphor to
describe the painting, pointing out her unique reflection to the painting and the mental creativity.
Starring at the dynamic brushstroke of the painting, Anne focuses on the violent style and the color
and represents these in her poem; she compares the swirling and massive clouds to the rushing
beast of the night . In her maverick thoughts, the rushing beast is a great dragon which she wants to
die/... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In her poem, Anne mentions a lot of natural objects; the eleven stars is especially important to
the theme of the poetry. The number eleven has a negative meaning in religion: as it recorded in
Bible, eleven represents disorder, chaos, and sin. Indeed, Anne s depression can cause her
mental disorder and chaos; likewise, her propensity to suicide can be seen as sin. Also, she
wants to die no flag/ no belly/ no cry : no flag indicates that she wants to die without showing
surrender and die in nameless; no belly means that she wants to die painlessly, because she gets the
postpartum depression she abandons her belly (the womb) in order to keep away from pain; no cry
just implies she wants to die without tears and

Curriculum, Quality and Professionalism
Curriculum, Quality and Professionalism Introduction In this report I will explain the purpose
and design of the curriculum proposal. I will then review the feedback obtained from the
validating panel and the changes made. Professional values will also be explained and the
importance they have in the lifelong learning sector. In addition, I will explain how the course
will be evaluated providing a summary of how records are currently being used. Finally, I will
create an action plan highlighting development needs to the course design. Curriculum Design
Independent Living Skills The course was designed for students in the second year of college
and is set over a period of 15 weeks with 2 hour sessions. The aim of this course is to provide
students with the necessary life skills needed for life after college. This course also provides
students with the skills and abilities to live independently. As many first year students at university
drop out due to academic and sometimes financial issues, this course helps to tackle some of these
problems. The course discusses how to find a place to live at university, remain safe, keep personal
items safe and how to interact and make friends at university which leads to the summative
assessment of a come dine with me theme. In addition the course covers health and fitness, the
importance of a healthy diet and this will also assist in stress management. This course also focuses
on budgeting and managing finances allowing students to

In my senior year, I was elected to be the sectional leader for a debate club in my school. Being a
sectional leader, I shouldered huge responsibilities such as planning the course, keeping track of the
students progress and analyzing their arguments for feedback. Furthermore, to maintain record
attendance, I generated creative topics to garner excitement and alacrity in participation. As to the
debate class itself, the members ranged from tenth grade to twelfth grade. Even though the grade
difference was supposed to bring more diversity and ideas to the discussion, it actually caused a
problem. With comprehensive debating experience under her belt, a tenth grade member displayed

The Importance Of Parenting Practices Alone Can t Close...
Not only do students suffer when they come from a family of low social and economic
backgrounds, they also fall behind when they come from a family who is either not involved in
their education, or have lower expectations for the students. According to the National Center for
Education Statistics (NCES), during the year 2010, of all the bachelor s degrees conferred to
United States residents by degree granting institutions, 72.9% were white, and only 10.3% were
black (Fast Facts). There is a severely disproportionate racial distribution of the number of degrees

This leaves a disadvantage for black students, who get less qualified teachers. It s also a
symbolic disadvantage. In schools where tracking occurs, even in suburban schools that host a
diverse population of students, students who get tracked into the lower classes perceive
themselves as less capable because they often get less challenging work and teachers have lower
expectations for them. Except the problem doesn t just stop there. Schools are so focused on
gaining funding from high test scores that when students are tracked, in order to secure high test
scores, students who are in the low performing track are deemed as trouble makers and typically
forced to leave schools because of disciplinary actions. According to the U.S. Department of
Education Office for Civil Rights On average, 5% of white students are suspended, compared to
16% of black students. This feeds into the racial stereotypes that these children were born into and
seemingly cannot escape. Instead we need to start equipping schools with administrators and
teachers who are aware of these negative implications and believe in the students enough to
motivate them.
Although there is an apparent achievement gap within schools, there are some researchers and
people who claim that because schools are not the major cause of the achievement gap, closing the
achievement gap is not a school issue. These people claim that schools should not be the ones to try
and fix the gap because the problem exists outside

Adoption Essay s Arguments Against Abortion
Is taking a life okay? People say that taking a life is wrong yet 125,000 abortions happen a day.
Although abortions are legal right now, it should be illegal.
First off, taking a life should not be a choice. In Arizona, killing a pregnant woman is a crime. The
law specifies that the defendant shall not be released until the completion of thirty years if the
murdered person was under fifteen years of age or was an unborn child (Fetus Homicide State
Laws). This proves the fetus had a life. When he/ she would have been born, he/ she would be
equal to a child that is out of the womb. Secondly, the baby feels pain. When the mother takes the
pill to burn the baby, the pill burns the baby. He/ she would either die from or get pulled out limb
by limb from the womb. The baby feels the pain of getting killed. He/ she opens his/ her mouth to
cry, but no sound ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, people will ask, what is the woman was raped? the answer is to give the baby up
for adoption. The healing process begins with empowerment and regaining the control lost in an
assault. Victims of sexual assault must be able to reclaim control of their own bodies and lives
(where we stand). Giving the child up for adoption will be a choice that the victim made and
will help her control her life. Taking away the fetus life will just cause him/ her pain. The pain of
rape is still there, bay or not. Others will say that some people are not ready for kids. The answer
is simple, do not have sex. Unless the woman was raped, she should not surprise. Give the baby
for adoption, some people cannot have kids and they would want a baby. Lastly, the baby would
be ill. Just because the child would have a hard life, does not mean there parent should not let
them experience the life in general. Parents should give the best lives they can. It is better to feel
loved and happy then to not feel anything. Life is a blessing and should not be taken

Anthony Herman Gerard Fokker, born in the Dutch East Indies, in what is now Indonesia in 1890.
However, the Fokker family soon moved back to their native Holland, where Anthony received his
early primary and early secondary education. Presumably, it was in these early years that Fokker
became intrigued by flight.
By the time he was 20 years old, while still in Germany, Anthony designed, developed and built his
first aircraft, and then taught himself how to fly it ( Anthony Herman Gerard Fokker, n.d., para. 3).
By the outbreak of World War One in July of 1914, Fokker had set up an aircraft manufacturing
plant and a flight school. Initially, Germany purchased his M.5 fighter, a mono wing aircraft based
on a French Morane Saulnier G design utilizing steel tubing and a new airfoil and tail design. In
fact, it was this aircraft that Fokker developed perhaps his most notable invention the
Synchronization Gear. This mechanism allowed the placement of the aircrafts machine guns

Sympathy In Eveline
Sympathy is a word many hear, but few accurately understand. It is often confused with empathy,
and many times true sympathy is occasional. Many people take a moment to feel bad or sorry for
someone, yet they rarely give it another thought. As a class, we read a short story by James Joyce
called Eveline. The first time reading this story, it was a bit confusing and quite irritating. As a
woman of the 21st century, one whom is fierce and independent, I found it tough to sympathize
with Eveline. Stop your pity party and create a happier life. This is what I found myself saying,
after my initial reading. However, I took a step back and actually looked at the story. I
remembered the context it takes place in. The year, country, and how different things were back
then. Placing myself in Eveline s shoes, a woman from the early 1900 s, assisted me in
sympathizing with her. Eveline was a female that was brought up in a poor area of Dublin,
Ireland. As with all underprivileged areas around the world things were harder. There was a
higher importance placed on morals and values. Eveline s job was to care for her father and the
house after her mother passed. A promise she made to her mother on her deathbed, and promises
are to be kept. She also had two children that she oversaw caring for. Her responsibilities were
routine, comfortable, and safe. There is nothing that the human race likes more than routine. There
is a comfort that comes with knowing how things are going to go and

The Balanced Scorecard System
Balanced Scorecard System (BSC) is a strategic management concept introduced by Robert Kaplan
and David Norton in the early 1990s. The Balanced Scorecard (BSC) contains both financial and
operational measures on customer satisfaction, internal processes, and innovation and
organizational improvement activities (Kaplan, Norton, 1992).
For managers, BSC identify a comprehensive vision of their company s strategic objectives and a
set of measures to improve the its strategic performance. The BSC is either a complex management
tool (Ahn, 2001) or a strategic management tool (Hueng, 2000; Pforsich, 2005). BSC s specialized
articles analyze and promote the Balanced Scorecard as a performance measurement tool, as a

The above mentioned strategic scheme should communicate how to create value for the company,
respectively, progressively present the logical link between the strategic objectives (presented as
schema ovals) in the form of a cause effect chain. Generally speaking, improving performance in the
found goals, from the perspective of Organizational Capacity (bottom row), allows the organization
to improve the Goals from the perspective of Internal Processes (the next line up), which in turn
allows the organization to create desired outcomes Clients and Finance (the first two lines).
However, BSC, as initially introduced by Kaplan and Norton, has some weaknesses with some of its
main hypotheses and relationships highlighted by many authors in the literature. Norreklit states
that there is no causality, but rather a logical relationship between the strategic perspectives
analyzed. Moreover, the BSC is not a representative tool of strategic management because it does
not take into account any link between the organization and competition. Consequently, a
discrepancy should be allowed between the company s ongoing strategy and the assumed

Media Violence And Its Effects
Media violence exposure has been investigated as a risk factor for aggression behavior for years.
The impact of exposure to violence in the media the long term development and short term
development of aggressive behavior has been documented. Aggression is caused by several factors,
of which media violenceis one. Research investigating the effects of media violence in conjunction
with other predictors of aggressionsuch as; environmental factors and dysfunction within the
family household, is needed in order to better understand its contribution to aggressive behavior.
Furthermore, the debate of whether or not how media violence leads to aggression has received
renewed attention following tragic events; Sandy Hook, Umpqua Community College in
Kosenburg, Oregon, 2012 Aurora shooting, traumatic news coverage, a 8 year old boy
intentionally shot and killed elderly caregiver and countless other events; all of these casualties
were caused by media violence. Media violence can be a murder simulator; by teaching and guiding
how to commit aggressive and violent crimes. Aggression is usually defined by behavioral
scientists as behavior that is intended to harm another person. Common forms of aggression are
physical (for example, punching), verbal (for example, saying or writing hurtful things to another
person), and relational (for example, intentionally and publicly not inviting someone to a social
function to harm their social relationships). Violence usually is

expressions are important. Ask anyone out there who s somewhat good with people; he will tell

The War Between America And America
During the time from 1800 1900 America had gone through a series of some tough growing
pains. It was recovering from its first war with Britain and would not be its last battle, for this
newly formed country. The over whelming onslaught of war was just the start of this small
country s birth. Within the 1800 s there were 35 wars in America s history and it was needing to
prove its worth by each one. You will see reasons why a young country had to fight to save itself,
what effects these battles had on America, and the battles that scared America the worst.
America was a young country that had just beaten the British nation, that same power that gave
them the opportunity to become America. Recovering from its wounds with the mother land,
America had to tighten the reigns as the battles with other nations were about to start. America was
being groomed by its founding fathers like Thomas Jefferson to become something greater as he
said in a letter to John Adams, to establish each ward with reading, writing, and arithmetic. (1)
Jefferson portraying to Adams that he wanted this country built on free thinkers and not slaves to
the crown. The thought that would linger in every American during the 1800 s was that they had to
fight for the freedom they had earned. Unlike the French that fought and lost its revolution and
went back to a monarchy. (2) With this great nation it knew it needed great warriors, and the call to
arms would be answered by the United States Marine Corps.

The Battle Of Trenton And The Battle Of Saratoga
The battle of Trenton and the battle of Saratoga brought a crucial victory to the Continental Army,
but the battle of Trenton improved morale in the patriots more so than the battle of Saratoga did.
The battle of Trenton proved to be significant by ultimately turning the tide of the conflict in their
favor, improving morale and hope for the war.
For instance, The battle of Trenton on Christmas Eve in 1776 proved the colonist were dedicated
and a capable force. The colonists were wary about fighting the very powerful Hessian, therefore on
Christmas Eve, they planned a sneak attack to defeat them. The patriots marched and fought in icy
and poor conditions before dawn, hoping to defeat the powerful Hessians. After the surprise attack
the Colonists had totaled 2 dead and 5 wounded. The Hessians had 22 dead and 90 wounded and
918 captured. This victory would change the image of the colonist s army and bring about great
change. After the battle of Trenton, they were now viewed as a definite threat to the British. On the
other hand, the battle of Saratoga gave the colonist hope for the upcoming battles. On October
17th,1777 the colonist surrounded General Burgoyne and his army continue to hold strong, the
army fought until the British surrendered to the colonist. This was significant for the colonist
because the British surrendered to the colonist. This showed the British that the colonist held up a
good fight and that this war was going to be long and hard. In conclusion, this

Thanks to modern day health care advances, and new technology, these neurologists no longer have
to rely on just their talents when identifying the cause and location of affected regions based solely
on clinical examinations.
So what does a neurologist do? They may encounter patients who suffer a severe speech
impairment, or seizures, some may even have lost their ability to move their limbs. These medical
experts have the ability to cope with the stress that their patients are experiencing, while remaining
emotionally stable. The ability to recognize small symptoms and details enable neurologists to treat
disease in it s early stages, and perhaps even save the patients

The Government s Political And Economic Tactics
Grande was most definitely a practicing Liberation theologian. However, he did not employ
Marxists concepts, and while he believed in the importance of political action, he focused on
transforming the lives of the poor through Biblical instruction, not political revolution. (Brackley)
Grande s sermons were addressed to three audiences: the wealthy class, the government, and the
church. He admonished the wealthy in their treatment and disdain of the poor. He challenged them
to remember their struggling brothers and provide relief and support when possible. He opposed
the government s political and economic tactics that continued to take advantage of the working
class, and disapproved of the government s actions against clergy members.... Show more content

So that if Jesus crosses the border at Chalatenango, they will not allow him to enter. They would
accuse him, the man God ... of being an agitator, of being a Jewish foreigner, who confuses the
people with exotic and foreign ideas, anti democratic ideas, and i.e., against the minorities. Ideas
against God, because this is a clan of Cain s. Brothers, they would undoubtedly crucify him again.
And they have said so. (Grande)
The last group to experience Grande s controversial speeches was the church itself. The church in
El Salvador had historically united itself with the wealthy of the country, further alienating and
devaluing the poor (Status Quo 183). Grande fiercely defended the poor and argued against their
maltreatment. He also strongly advocated for social change, which he believed should start with
pastoral renewal (Brackley). All in all, Grande was more concerned with imparting Christian
principles, and thus while his speeches were built on Liberation theology, his emphasis was on the
Bible and its inherent ability to change the situation in El Salvador.
In addition to his fiery sermons, Grande fought social oppression by cultivating and nurturing
Christian base communities, or Comunidades Eclesiales de Base CEB s (Gospel 147). Grande
did this during his evangelical mission work in Aguilares, El Salvador. CEB s developed as priests
moved to poorer communities and towns. While there, they lived and worked alongside those
suffering from poverty

Dr. Alan Grant s Jurassic Park
People read books. People read books all the time. Some people don t like books, others love to
travel through the adventure of them. Books are a part of life and no matter what route you take
you will encounter books. Books open people up to a new world of goblins, ghosts, and
civilizations fighting each other over a bag of bread. Books give emotions and have people go
through states of suspense, thriller, action, and so much more. In this book, Jurassic Park, I did
experience a lot of those emotions and realized the adventure the book took me through. I mainly
chose the book for the reasons of action, and suspense because those really touched my heart in
such a way, in such a passion. So let s get on with it!

Managing An Accounting System For A Business
As a financial consultant, one must be able to assist a company by evaluating drawbacks and
advising solutions. Consultants deliver an analysis of current practices of a business and offer
suggestions that will help a business progress to the next level. A consultant s duty for a business
usually begins with an understanding of what clients wish to improve. This includes examining
financial statements, business opponents, and the company s practices. So making
recommendations on an accounting system for a new business is a consultant s forte. In a case
where a business owner knows nothing about accounting, a consultant will create a business model
and formulate a plan tailored to the client s needs.

It allows business owner to correctly record transactions within the business, obtain financial
statements, and diminish financial complications, in general. Prior to learning about an
accounting system, it is essential that the background knowledge of the system also be known.
An accounting system is comprised of things such as assets, liabilities, and stockholder s
equities. These things are the foundation of an accounting system. A lack of knowledge of these
will cease the creation of an ideal accounting system. Assets are resources owned by a business .
(Kieso, Kimmel, and Weygandt, n.p). It does not matter if an asset is physical or even
intangible, assets are owned in order to generate worth for a business. The purpose of assets is
to produce economic benefits for a business. Some examples of assets are cash, supplies, and
inventory. A liability is the contrast of an asset. An asset should always have a positive effect on
a business, while a liability does not. A liability is Amounts owed to creditors in the form of
debts and other obligations. (Kieso, Kimmel, and Weygandt, n.p). It is important for a business
owner to know that liabilities may be inevitable to happen. If a business owner has liabilities it
does not mean they are not successful. Liabilities are just apart of a business and as long as these
liabilities are dealt with, they should not stunt a business growth. Some examples of

Essay Submission Poetically Cromulent
My Folio 2 submission Poetically Cromulent is a free verse poem intended to lampoon traditional
conventions of poetry and the English language. Though targeted primarily towards students, I feel
the piece can appeal to anyone who has experienced the ambiguity and subjectivity of literary
analysis. The central theme of the poem: something spurious attempting to appear legitimate, is
blatantly revealed in the title. Most readers cannot decipher this meaning, however, due to the
recondite nature of the term Cromulent . The arrogant and pompous tone is perhaps the most
prevalent feature of the poem and is vital in my characterisation of the narrator. I establish tone with
the ironic opening line there are those of us who are ineffable , a statement... Show more content on

The writer describes himself as a holy grail [monk] that [has] hit the books too much , suggesting
he has obtained his mastery of language through intensive study. This double entendre, however,
is also a reference to the infamous Monty Python and The Holy Grail procession scene,
undermining the writer and likening English to a religion blindly followed by brain dead
disciples. All remaining biblical allusions form an Garden of Eden allegory; one which elevates
the narrator to god like status. I portray myself as the forbidden tree whose branches offer
mellifluous fruit , inferring that I am a source of infinite wisdom. By extension the students
represent the Adam and Eve, archetypes of naivety, who expect to be struck in the eye by the
serpent of sibilance , representing analysis of sibilance, alliteration, consonance and onomatopoeic
techniques which are perceived as unsophisticated. Ultimately, the students succumb to the
temptation of consulting the writer. Just as Adam and Eve were cursed by the fruit, so too are the
pupils with the knowledge of how to exploit the superficiality of English. The ability to mask poor
content and analysis by exploiting intricate language such as melodic magnum opus and

Lucas v. South Carolina Coastal Council Essay
Lucas v. South Carolina Coastal Council
Problem: David H. Lucas purchased two beach front lots on Isle of Palms in Charlestoncounty in
1986 for 900,000 with intent to later build one single family home on each lot. The following year
when South Carolina conducted a survey ofthe coast line the rustles showed that the beaches of
South Carolina werecritically eroding. Due to the rustles of the survey South Carolina issued
theBeachfront Management Act (BMA). The act placed restraints on the usage of land along the
coast line, and because the building line was moved inward Lucas lots were affected with no
exceptions provided. When he bought those lots the year before that particular ... Show more

The court agreedthat Lucas had suffered a total loss of the value of his property and concludedthat
regulatory taking had occurred. On appeal, the South Carolina Supreme Court revised the decision,
on the grounds that the BMA had been passed toprevent serious harm to the public. Lucas
petitioned the U.S. Supreme Court to review the case and the Court sided with Lucas saying that
the Beachfront Management Act of 1988 had not been designed to benefit the state in obtaining
land for public use, but was to prevent harm to the public. The Courtruled that Lucas suffered a
taking, and that his property was rendered valuelessby South Carolina statue and that he was
entitled to just compensation as statedin the fifth and fourteen adamants of our Constitution.
Significance: Although the South Carolina Supreme Court decided that state regulationswere
designed to prevent serious public harm, the U.S. Supreme Court held that when a property owner
suffered a taking, there were no exceptions fromcommon rule ( the Takings Clause and the just
Compensation Clause). Furthermore, when the state of South Carolina amended its original statute
byincluding provisions that might permit limited construction, the U.S. SupremeCourt held that
property owners must still be compensated. Even whenlegislation later renders the initial act less
restrictive,

A Brief Note On Urban And Rural Terms
Urban and Rural Terms
Guatemala is a country that has had rapid growth economically in the world. Guatemala is
becoming the most popular country in the sector of industry and tourism of Central American, its
population has continued to increase. The growth of the population invariably leads to
urbanization, which refers to the development of urban areas and the migration of people from
rural to urban centers.
On the other hand, this has the reciprocal effect of the expansion of these centers much more
towards the outside, until they begin to invade the rural areas. (Country Review: Guatemala. 2003)
Guatemala has rural areas with a low population density and small settings. Guatemala has an
enormous potential for increasing its agricultural production that would lead to rural economic
growth, job creation, and poverty alleviation. Guatemala is acknowledged as a leader in
nontraditional agriculture that exports in Central America; such as, green beans, snow peas, black
beans, vegetables, and fruits, which have grown exponentially over the past ten years helping and
also benefitting smallholder farmers. (said.gov/guatemala/education)
Guatemala Urban areas are created through urbanization and categorized by urban cities such as,
towns, colonies, and zones. Urban people defined by their advanced opportunities for education,
facilities for transport, business, and social interaction overall and a better standard of living.

Response To The Bible
This is how I would respond to my friend in option one:
The Bible is indeed made up of many different stories that are compiled in the sixty six books of
the Bible, but they all tell one overarching story; God s story. All the stories of the Bible, while not
seeming to fit together at first glance, flow together to create the story of God. From the beginning
of Genesis to the end of Revelation, God is there, and He reveals Himself and His plan for us
through the different stories (Everyday Bible Study, pg. 3 4). The Old Testament tells us the history
of humans and why we need a Savior and also points to the coming of that Savior, Jesus, whose life
is recorded in the gospels of the New Testament.
Because the Bible is God s story and not ours, if we begin reading the Bible expecting it to lay out
specific and easily followed guidelines for our lives, we miss the point of the Bible in the first
place. Yes, the Bible can help us navigate through our daily lives, but it s not a road map that
helps us choose the best path to take, its purpose is to show us what God s plan for us is ... Show

The Bible is God s word to us, and He is a kind and loving God. He wants us to know that we are
loved unconditionally and that He will never abandon us. As the Lord told us through Moses;
Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who
goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you. (Deuteronomy 31:6). Yes, the Bible s stories
can help you cope with life in the real world, but the Bible is not just a self help book. Because
God is the focus of the Bible, the reassurances and words of encouragement have meaning and
substance. Instead of simply saying you re strong, you can get through this! the Bible tells me that I
can do all things through Him who strengthens me, (Philippians 4:13). Our strength does not come
from ourselves, but from

Physical Therapy Career
Exploring career choices can be one of the most tasking process that one will come upon. Starting
off, I always wanted to be a hairstylist. Years went on, then it changed to nurse, then psychiatrist,
and finally settled on what I am now most passionate about, physical therapy. Physical therapy
really appeals to me because I love life and I want everyone to be able to live life to the fullest. I
want to be there for people who need help getting back on their feet, literally. The working
environment for a physical therapist can vary to several places. Some of the most common work
environments include rehabilitation facilities, fitness centers, schools, and private practice
facilities. Even though the locations physical therapist differ,... Show more content on

After receiving a degree, the next step is to apply and attend a physical therapy school. The
course of physical therapy schools is about three to four years. Upon completion, it is highly
recommend to do a residence for a few years to gain experience. Since there are many majors that
one can go into for physical therapy, it is easier to find one that is appealing. I am currently
majoring in psychology which has been shown to spike the interest more to physical therapy
schools. With this major, I am hoping that I will be able to receive a job in the future. Education is
not the only thing, however, that one needs to be a physical therapist. You must also become
certified by taking the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy. Volunteering is also a major
part of this career field along with internships, both which show you care deeply about people. With
all these thing that must be completed, I still am very passionate about this career field. After
taking the Strong Interest Inventory, I am almost certain that this is what I should pursue in my
future because physical therapist was the number one occupation on the list it provided. Along with
being number one on my list, my theme code also match up almost perfectly with the theme

  • 2. Andrew Johnson s Political Impact The Political Impact of Andrew Johnson s Presidency Andrew Johnson s leniency towards the rebellious South left the Republican Party in disarray. With conflicting approaches in regards to Southern Reconstruction, Andrew Johnson and the Republican Party clashed throughout Johnson s presidency. Johnson would eventually be rejected by both the Republican and the Democratic parties when his term had ended. This opened an opportunity for Ulysses S. Grant to run for office, who had little regard for a president s power. The Political Impact of Rutherford B. Hayes Presidency Rutherford B. Hayes entered office with a growing abundance of public disappointment towards the Republican Party. With the corruption and economic failures brought forth by... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After his election, Cleveland would appoint many Southerners to a number of posts, thus furthering his relationship with southern states. Due to his success in office and his publicity, Cleveland brought the Democratic Party back into relevancy. Although Cleveland failed in his first attempt to be re elected, due to his proposal of lowering tariffs, he would later win his second election, being the first president to be re elected in non consecutive terms. The Social Impact of Benjamin Harrison s Presidency With the push to transition into a bimetallic standard, Benjamin Harrison finally acted upon this request by signing the Sherman Silver Purchase Act, which would significantly raise the price of silver. While this act appealed to the popular opinion, the shift towards a bimetallic standard brought forth a panic that could only be ended by repealing the Sherman Silver Purchase Act. The Social Impact of Grover Cleveland s Second Term in Office Grover Cleveland s hands off approach in office did little to help the nation during the economic depression that had occurred during his time in office. His second term was considered an underachievement due to this. The reduction of tariffs only worsened this depression, leaving Mckinley with the job to force America out of this economic ... • 3. The Impact Of Internet Legislation On The Internet The goal of the legislation was to improve the access of the internet and to allow the consumers to receive equal access to all internet sites no matter what provider they are using. This allows people to select the applications or sites they wish to get their information, giving them a freedom not many have. As shown before these companies have been fined and reprimanded for breaking the law, however this brings forth a probe to see if this policy been successful in creating an equal internet for the consumer. According to CBS NL it states that the dutch legislation raised the over population of 84% avidly use the internet in 2012 versus the 78% of people in 2005. The statistics presented by the Central Bureau voor de Statistiek (CBS) show that as the internet evolved people became more dependent on the internet leading to an expansion of people using the internet (CBS 2012). Additionally, the Netherlands holds the highest percentage of internet users than in most developed countries in Europe (CBS). However, as we see that more people in the Netherlands use the internet ISPs also introduced a raise in prices to help with the lost revenue the law created. Although consumers were being charged more many advocates still see it as a victory by stopping ISPs from raising the prices significantly higher than the are now creating a consensus between the ISPs and its consumers. Isolation is increasing immensely in my life since social media is taking such a huge roll in it. I notice the continuous blank stare at my phone as I roam the halls of Florida International University. It s like my social anxiety is a broken leg and my cellphone is my crutch. My cellphone brings me so much comfort, although I am comforted, I feel so disconnected with the world. Learning is much easier through social media websites. I am so anti social not only around school, but with myself. Bringing me to the conclusion that social media is a negative impact in my daily life for more than one reason. ... For the first time, I walk around Graham Center with a smile on my face. I am ready to start conversations I have urged to begin with my FIU peers and professors. I feel this explosion of happiness as questions, conversations, and sign up sheets are being thrown my way. To my astonishment, these students are taking an interest in me because my eyes aren t locked to my cellphone. Jessica Winter states Instagram messes more with your sense of time and I couldn t agree more. I have been wasting precious time on social media that I can use to grow my circle here at FIU instead. Filters and likes are all people seek on social media, but my thumbs and mind take over me and give them what they want. This time it seems someone is letting me borrow a spare key to unlock the handcuffs that chain my cellphone and I together. Sitting down in class, I witness my professor coming through the door. He is ready to bring us new information that I can t seem to understand sometimes. As our professor gets more in depth with our lesson, hands are preparing to launch like a rocket ship. These students are ready to blast off with questions that they plead answers for. I quietly say to myself that there is no need to raise my hand during class. There were many economic panics such as this one in the early 1900 s which really stunted the growth of the Dow Jones early on. • 6. Determining The Chemical Formula For Two Hydrates Through... The goals of the experiment are to determine the chemical formulas for two hydrates through dehydration. Introduction: A chemical equation demonstrates the quantity of atoms of every component that make up the compound. The atomic proportion of components in the compound is the same as the molar proportion of those components. This information can be applied to solve for the mass of one mole of a compound by including the molar masses of the constituent components. Hydrates are combinations that are salts with water particles synthetically clung to them. Really, the holding is intriguing in that the water particles bond specifically to the metal cation. Hydrates fall in an expansive class called coordinated compounds in view of the sort... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The experimental error in this lab included the question whether the digital scale was as precise as it could be, how the cooling time affected the water in the hydrates, and any miscalculations that could have occurred. The digital scale could have been more precise since they are more precise scales that could deliver more accurate masses in this lab. The cooling time caused error when calculating the moles of water because the actual result was seven moles instead of five moles which was what was calculated. The calculations could have been potentially miscalculated particularly due to the significant figures used in the data. The method for this experiment can be improved by maybe using another object rather than the crucible to allow a faster cooling time that way the calculations for the analysis have less of a chance of ... It is here where the initiation of whether action potentials within neurons initiate at the axon initial segment (AIS) or at the first node of Ranvier within cerebellar Purkinje neurons (Palmer, Clark, GrГјndemann, Roth, Stuart, HГ¤usser, 2010). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another study looked at mice hippocampal pyramidal neurons. At higher temperatures the hyperpolarized voltage sodium channels at the AIS contributed to increased excitability. This AIS excitability contributed to increased heat related seizures, which offered that sodium channels play a role in febrile seizures (Wimmer, Reid, Mitchell, Richards, Scaf, Leaw, Petrou, 2010). Another mice oriented study focused on ion channel regulation in the axon initial segment. This study found that dopaminergic signaling can control neuronal output through calcium channels (Bender, Ford, Trussell, 2010). Materials and Methods To test the hypothesis that all axon potentials initiate in the AIS, voltage sensitive dye was injected to obtain whole cell somatic recordings. Transgenic mice that expressed green fluorescent protein or enhanced green fluorescent protein were used for the purpose of neuron selection. Parasagittal slices of the cerebellar were examined with a confocal imaging system to ensure absolute neuron morphology. Selected neurons were loaded with voltage sensitive dye through a glass patch electrode, and whole cell recordings were taken under IR DIC video microscopy. The neuron was stained via glass patch in room temperature for 20 50 minutes to ensure optimum uptake into the cell, after staining the selected neuron was incubated at room temperature for 1 1.5 hours. The Caster Chronicles by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl Since I was a kid I have been fascinated by the imaginary world where there are magic, mythical creatures and the freedom of having power to do what you want. My preference was fading until the movie Beautiful Creatures, a film adaptation for the first novel in the series The Caster Chronicles by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl. When it hit the theater, I watched it and decided to read the next novelin the series called Beautiful Darkness . Published by Little, Brown on October 12, 2010, Beautiful Darkness is a 528 page young adult fantasy and romance novel. The story continued with the recovering of two main characters, Ethan Wate, a mortal and Lena Duchannes, a caster. Despite their different species, they fell in lovethe first time they saw each other at Jackson High School, and confronted many challenges from Lena s malicious mom, Sarafine Duchannes, and a family curse. Personally, I am a very selective reader, but it was such a riveting, gripping novel that it only took 5 days to complete. The combination of the roller coaster love story, the fighting scene between dark and light, and the adventurous way they conquer love has ranked the novel #3 on New York Times bestsellers. The novel is told in first person by Ethan Wate. Ethan is a typical 16 year old boy growing up in Gatlin with his parents until his mom passed away the previous summer. The Bluegrass State stands as one of the most recognizable state monikers across the country, Blue Moon of Kentucky is a famous waltz recorded by both Bluegrass musical creator Bill Monroe (as well as the king of rock Elvis Presley), and chants of Go Big Blue!! echo across the state from those that support the University of Kentuckys athletic programs. Lost to represent Kentucky citizens in this twentieth century movement toward a more popular iconography are the sacrificial contributions for the Union cause made by ordinary Kentuckians during the Civil War. As events unfolded in the 1860s domestic crisis between the Blue and Gray, Kentucky s Appalachian residents provided a bastion of physical and strategic support for those that marched and fought in the uniform of the darker hue. In 1897, future President Theodore Roosevelt singled out Kentucky s Appalachian citizens impact on the war proclaiming when the full history of the war is written we shall realize more than we do our debt to the loyal people of the South...there (was) a larger proportion of descendants of revolutionary soldiery in Kentucky than any other state... Why did colonial Americans enjoy drinking so much? In Sharon V. Salinger s, Taverns and Drinking in Early America, she outlines how drinking traditions started and how it affected daily life and the impact it had on the people of early America. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The overview of taverns and drinking and their great impact on daily life is obvious in the evidence and narration Salinger provides. She uses a journal written by Thomas Jefferson to explain how deeply entrenched in their daily lives taverns and drinking were: Thomas Jefferson noted with alarm that cheap distilled spirits were spreading through the mass of our citizens, yet he is credited with inventing the presidential cocktail party (3). Despite any negativity surrounding drinking, its growth in popularity was unstoppable. She also adds the fact that water was considered an unsafe beverage , which partially explains the reason for alcohol s rise to popularity and appearance in the daily lives of early Americans. This increase in drinking also lead to the tavern culture and the need to regulate it, which brings in the lawmaking side. The thesis of Salinger s book and research states, Colonial taverns and hotels that developed from elite taverns manifested an American society that maintained segregation in public by race, gender, and class (245). Essentially, over the course of the eighteenth century colonial taverns grew exclusionary, in time serving certain sections of society rather than the whole community. She writes even at the very beginning of the text of the separation: In the urban taverns that served a middle class and elite clientele, men gathered on a regular basis to transact business, argue over issues of local politics, or share a convivial ... Essential Operations Of Information Systems The essential operations of information systems sustained by of critical infrastructure rely on the explicit functionality of software applications supporting complex, interdependent, information systems. The software application provides the virtual framework for information systems to operate efficiently in a critical infrastructure. Information systems consistently communicate with supplementary information systems positioned throughout the network to support the infrastructure s essential operations. The dependence of software and information systems increases, as businesses require additional systems to automate critical operations. However, the connectivity and complexities of information systems supporting critical infrastructure increases the critical infrastructure s exposure rate of software vulnerabilities to advanced persistent threats. Conventionally, software application facilitates process involved in auditing, configuring and distributing commands to augment interdependent information system performance. The security and safety of the nation s critical infrastructure are significantly relying on measures implemented to ensure software resiliency and dependability. According to statistics released by the National Security Agency (NSA) chief General Keith Alexander in 2013, about 90 percent of the nation s critical infrastructure is owned by the private sector, and therefore is not under the control of the U.S. government or military. • 16. Red Kayak Narrative What would you do if you found out that your friends had committed a crime that caused a boy s death? Would you turn them in even if you were slightly involved in the crime? Well that is the predicament that the main character in Red Kayak faces. The major plot events in Red Kayak go like this: Mrs. DiAngelo and her son Ben were in a kayaking accident, and Ben dies as a result, leaving Brady, the main character, traumatized. Later, Brady finds out that his two friends, J.T. and Digger caused the kayak to sink. Brady also remembers a day when the three of them were swimming and Digger was acting angry at the DiAngelos for buying his grandfather s farm. Brady had suggested to put holes in the kayak, so now Brady has to decide what to do because the plan to sink the kayak was his idea. Things like this make Red Kayak a good example of realistic fiction. Realistic fiction is a type of story that might really happen. The five elements of realistic fiction are: credible events, authentic characters, real setting, true to life themes, and believable dialogue. Credible events are events that could really happen. Authentic characters are characters that develop over time. Real setting shows a setting that could really exist. True to life themes are themes that could be applied to one s own life. And finally, believable dialogue contains realistic conversations. Red Kayak is realistic fiction because of its credible events, authentic characters, and true to life themes. A reason why Red Kayak is considered realistic fiction is because of its credible events. One credible event in Red Kayak is that Ben died because of being in a cold river for too long. On pages 49 50, Brady s mom tells Brady Ben died... Brady responds by asking why did he die? Brady s mom then says I don t know... I guess because he was in that cold water for so long. This is a credible event because people do die at young ages like this. Not everyone can live a full life. In short, Ben dying is a credible event because people do die in the real world. Another way Red Kayak is an example of realistic fiction is because of its authentic characters. An authentic character in Red Kayak is Digger. Something that support this is on page 107. • 19. Aesir Research Paper LITERARY BACKGROUNDS AND TERMINOLOGIES The primary texts are derived from two major sources of Scandinavian mythology: the Elder Edda (Poetic Edda) and the Younger Edda (Prose Edda). As the name suggests, the former contains some old materials composed as early as the 10th and 11th centuries, including VГ¶luspГЎ (The Seeress s Prophecy), Thrymskvida (Thyrm s Poem), and Lokasenna (Loki s Quarrel). While the authors of the Elder remains unknown, the Younger is written by the Icelandic historian, poet, and politician Snorri Sturluson around A.D. 1220. In Thrymskvida, the author recounts a story about the recovery of Thor s hammer from the giant Thrym. To get back the hammer, Loki sets foot in JГ¶tunheimr, where he negotiates with Thrym, who demands the goddess Freyja to be his wife as an exchange. However, when Freyja refuses, much to the annoyance of Thor, he has to pretend by dressing up as her. When Thor complains, Loki scolds him and says, be quite, Thor, ... / The giant will be settling in Asgard / unless you get your hammer back (Larrington, 2008, pp. 99). Here, Loki s warning indicates his allegiance to the Aesir over the giants. Interestingly, being notoriously known for his short temper, Thor does not lash out against Loki when he orders him to be quite. In fact, Thor willingly obeys his request because Thor senses the truth that without the hammer, the safety of Asgard will be jeopardized. With the help of Loki, Thor manages to get back his hammer in the end. It is important to understand water quality not only for the health of the ecosystem, but also for humans who drink the water and use the water for recreational purposes. In the city, it is difficult to maintain adequate water quality standards because of factors like excessive pollutants from road runoff, sediments, nutrients, and organic waste. The water levels are often sporadic and will vary by land use such as a parking lot versus a park. A way to combat this problem is to manage or restore the riparian zone by adding vegetation, encouraging infiltration, and reducing runoff rates. The Colorado River The Colorado River had the highest water quality of all tested sites. The dissolved oxygen at this site was 8.92 mg/L and could be attributed to a number of different reasons (Table 1). The sample was taken when the sun was high and water dwelling plants had been photosynthesizing for a number of hours. The water was flowing fairly quickly and there was a small riffle at the area where the reading was taken which could have increased dissolved oxygen of the water. The river had a rocky gravel bottom which provided plenty of habitat for the macroinvertebrates that reside in the river. The variety of macroinvertebrates that were found were indicators of high water quality; species included caddisflies, mayflies, stoneflies, and dragonfly larvae. The macroinvertebrates were all very large specimens, indicating a healthy environment and plenty of resources to support their growth. The site examined was downstream of the Hornsby Bend Biosolids Plant. The high water quality at the Colorado River site could be partially attributed to the Plant s ability to sanitize and reuse wastes and prevent contamination through leakages of unclean water. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This leaves a disadvantage for black students, who get less qualified teachers. It s also a symbolic disadvantage. In schools where tracking occurs, even in suburban schools that host a diverse population of students, students who get tracked into the lower classes perceive themselves as less capable because they often get less challenging work and teachers have lower expectations for them. Except the problem doesn t just stop there. Schools are so focused on gaining funding from high test scores that when students are tracked, in order to secure high test scores, students who are in the low performing track are deemed as trouble makers and typically forced to leave schools because of disciplinary actions. According to the U.S. Department of Education Office for Civil Rights On average, 5% of white students are suspended, compared to 16% of black students. This feeds into the racial stereotypes that these children were born into and seemingly cannot escape. Instead we need to start equipping schools with administrators and teachers who are aware of these negative implications and believe in the students enough to motivate them. Although there is an apparent achievement gap within schools, there are some researchers and people who claim that because schools are not the major cause of the achievement gap, closing the achievement gap is not a school issue. The law specifies that the defendant shall not be released until the completion of thirty years if the murdered person was under fifteen years of age or was an unborn child (Fetus Homicide State Laws). This proves the fetus had a life. When he/ she would have been born, he/ she would be equal to a child that is out of the womb. Secondly, the baby feels pain. It was recovering from its first war with Britain and would not be its last battle, for this newly formed country. The over whelming onslaught of war was just the start of this small country s birth. Within the 1800 s there were 35 wars in America s history and it was needing to prove its worth by each one. You will see reasons why a young country had to fight to save itself, what effects these battles had on America, and the battles that scared America the worst. America was a young country that had just beaten the British nation, that same power that gave them the opportunity to become America. Recovering from its wounds with the mother land, America had to tighten the reigns as the battles with other nations were about to start. America was being groomed by its founding fathers like Thomas Jefferson to become something greater as he said in a letter to John Adams, to establish each ward with reading, writing, and arithmetic. (1) Jefferson portraying to Adams that he wanted this country built on free thinkers and not slaves to the crown. The thought that would linger in every American during the 1800 s was that they had to fight for the freedom they had earned. Unlike the French that fought and lost its revolution and went back to a monarchy. The Battle Of Trenton And The Battle Of Saratoga The battle of Trenton and the battle of Saratoga brought a crucial victory to the Continental Army, but the battle of Trenton improved morale in the patriots more so than the battle of Saratoga did. The battle of Trenton proved to be significant by ultimately turning the tide of the conflict in their favor, improving morale and hope for the war. For instance, The battle of Trenton on Christmas Eve in 1776 proved the colonist were dedicated and a capable force. The colonists were wary about fighting the very powerful Hessian, therefore on Christmas Eve, they planned a sneak attack to defeat them. The patriots marched and fought in icy and poor conditions before dawn, hoping to defeat the powerful Hessians. After the surprise attack the Colonists had totaled 2 dead and 5 wounded. The Hessians had 22 dead and 90 wounded and 918 captured. This victory would change the image of the colonist s army and bring about great change. After the battle of Trenton, they were now viewed as a definite threat to the British. On the other hand, the battle of Saratoga gave the colonist hope for the upcoming battles. On October 17th,1777 the colonist surrounded General Burgoyne and his army continue to hold strong, the army fought until the British surrendered to the colonist. This was significant for the colonist because the British surrendered to the colonist. This showed the British that the colonist held up a good fight and that this war was going to be long and hard. However, he did not employ Marxists concepts, and while he believed in the importance of political action, he focused on transforming the lives of the poor through Biblical instruction, not political revolution. (Brackley) Grande s sermons were addressed to three audiences: the wealthy class, the government, and the church. He admonished the wealthy in their treatment and disdain of the poor. He challenged them to remember their struggling brothers and provide relief and support when possible. He opposed the government s political and economic tactics that continued to take advantage of the working class, and disapproved of the government s actions against clergy members.... (Grande) The last group to experience Grande s controversial speeches was the church itself. The church in El Salvador had historically united itself with the wealthy of the country, further alienating and devaluing the poor (Status Quo 183). Grande fiercely defended the poor and argued against their maltreatment. He also strongly advocated for social change, which he believed should start with pastoral renewal (Brackley). All in all, Grande was more concerned with imparting Christian principles, and thus while his speeches were built on Liberation theology, his emphasis was on the Bible and its inherent ability to change the situation in El Salvador. In addition to his fiery sermons, Grande fought social oppression by cultivating and nurturing Christian base communities, or Comunidades Eclesiales de Base CEB s (Gospel 147). Though targeted primarily towards students, I feel the piece can appeal to anyone who has experienced the ambiguity and subjectivity of literary analysis. The central theme of the poem: something spurious attempting to appear legitimate, is blatantly revealed in the title. Most readers cannot decipher this meaning, however, due to the recondite nature of the term Cromulent . • 47. A Brief Note On Urban And Rural Terms Urban and Rural Terms Guatemala is a country that has had rapid growth economically in the world. Guatemala is becoming the most popular country in the sector of industry and tourism of Central American, its population has continued to increase. The growth of the population invariably leads to urbanization, which refers to the development of urban areas and the migration of people from rural to urban centers. On the other hand, this has the reciprocal effect of the expansion of these centers much more towards the outside, until they begin to invade the rural areas. • 48. Response To The Bible This is how I would respond to my friend in option one: The Bible is indeed made up of many different stories that are compiled in the sixty six books of the Bible, but they all tell one overarching story; God s story. All the stories of the Bible, while not seeming to fit together at first glance, flow together to create the story of God. From the beginning of Genesis to the end of Revelation, God is there, and He reveals Himself and His plan for us through the different stories (Everyday Bible Study, pg. 3 4). The Old Testament tells us the history of humans and why we need a Savior and also points to the coming of that Savior, Jesus, whose life is recorded in the gospels of the New Testament. Because the Bible is God s story and not ours, if we begin reading the Bible expecting it to lay out specific and easily followed guidelines for our lives, we miss the point of the Bible in the first place.
