The day my life changed forever was January 22, 2014 when I went for a ultra sound of my baby.
I was in the office and could see the look on the face of the ultrasound technician that something
was wrong. I knew at this moment my life would be different. My stomach sunk and I was just
hoping it was not a serious health issue. I thought for sure I was going to have a panic attack. I was
in my late 30 s and I knew there was a risk for issues but I had no idea what was in store for us.
The doctor came to the room and let me know that my baby could have trisomy 21 or down
syndrome. This was somewhat of a relief because I knew he would live. I needed to make an
important decision whether to have a amniocentesis or a maternal 21 blood test. If I had the
amniocentesis I knew my baby would not survive. I took the maternal 21 blood test and had to
wait for two weeks for the results. They indicated that my baby would most likely have down
syndrome. The doctors and nurses looked at me like someone had died. I was happy that my
child would still be able to come into this world even though there would be some obstacles we
would have to face. I will never forget how they looked at me when I denied further testing.
I knew no matter what the diagnosis was I would have him. I loved him, the bond I felt when I
found out I conceived was one I could never explain. Even when the doctors looked at me like I

In the early 1800 s, many of the women in the United States were coming to realize that they
wanted to obtain more rights. The male gender had way more rights than women, and they had
run more things than women. Finally, women began to come forward to voice their opinions
about how men and women are made to be equal; no less, no more. It was now time for women to
go out and pursue whatever they wanted to pursue and not have to worry about the fact that they

The Indians were forced to leave their homes and even families to move to the west, which is
now known as Oklahoma. The trail was not a specific road, trail, route, or river that was
traveled. Instead, the Indians traveled on different routes to get to their destination in Oklahoma.
Some of the Indians traveled upriver on steamboats, and some of the Indians even got into large
caravans that carried wagons full of their belongings and labor animals. A majority of the Indians
traveled through Arkansas to arrive in Oklahoma. Other Indian tribes and regular people would
leave food, supplies and firewood along the way to help the Indians on their treacherous journey
to the west. Not only was the route a long one, but the weather was very harsh. It was often
freezing in the winter and very dry and boiling during the summer. This led to a high mortality rate
