The illusion of a free society with unbiased laws created by the collective and ratified by the
legislator, enables the society to have a sense of morality and perform a ceremonial civic duty to
uphold the laws they finance with commitment. Rousseau states in the opening page that, Man is
born free, but everywhere he is in chains. One thinks himself the master of others, and still remains
a greater slave than they. These chains that Rousseau refer to are the constraints that are
strategically placed on the freedom of the residents of the state. Since laws consult the public
