Case Study Of Porter s Diamond
Topic: Does Porter s Diamond concept convincingly explain the achievements of major national
business systems, or are their weaknesses, theoretically and empirically, in his arguments?
There exist classical theories of international trade which discuss the reasons why particular industries
and particular economies are more competitive than the rest. In his book The Competitive Advantage
of Nations, Michael E Porter argued or analyzed the broad factors which determined the
competitiveness of certain economies and industries. This model is based on four nation s specific
factors and two external variables. The four cornerstones of the diamond model are the factor
conditions, the demand conditions, the related and supporting industries and ... Show more content on

It is interesting to note that nestles 95% percent of its revenue is earned outside its home based of
Switzerland.
Rugman s analysis resulted in the double diamond being creative which is a better tool to analyze the
international competitiveness. Rugman s criticism of Porters diamond appears have to be successful as
Porter himself later on admitted that firms can have multiple home bases. For instance, Mexico s
economic future is closely linked to its neighbor the United States of America and also through North
America. Hence the double diamond proposed by Rugman proves to be more effective in determining
Mexico s success/ resurgence in various economic sectors.
One of the four cornerstones of the Porters diamond is the importance of rivalry. In the year 1993
Lazonick argued that rivalry alone cannot cause firms to innovate. He was of the opinion that when
the firms face too much pressure from competitors, it may cause the companies to adapt and imitate
instead of innovation. For instance when US firms faced challenges from foreign competitor s
cooperation rather than rivalry became necessary to prevent loss of market share to foreign

Essay On Coptic Orthodoxy
A micro culture is a group of people within a culture that differentiates them from the larger culture to
which they belong. As a member of the Christian faith, a micro culture that I strongly associate myself
with is Coptic Orthodoxy. There are many branches of Christianity all over the world today and
Coptic Orthodoxy is one that is constantly growing.
Coptic Orthodoxy is a branch of Christianity influenced by the teachings of Saint Mark in Egypt.
Many refer to this faith as being Coptic . It is not significantly unique to just the United States of
California. There are Coptic Orthodox Christians all over the world today and the numbers are always
on the rise. This branch was first introduced thousands of years ago, so it is not entirely ... Show more

Wearing this cross shows that a person is bearing their cross just like Jesus did when He was being
crucified. A lot of Copts, especially those who were born in Egypt and came to the United States, have
a cross tattooed on the inside of their wrist. It is more common to find those who were born in Egypt
to have this small tattoo because they get it from a very young age, but it is becoming more popular
that youth who were born in the United States to get a bigger and more dramatic form of the tattoo
when they grow up. This also symbolizes a person bearing their cross but in a different way than just
wearing a necklace. I, personally, always wear my necklace but have yet to get a tattoo on my wrist.
Also, priests of the Coptic Orthodox faith are required to wear a black tunic at all times and must grow
a beard from the time that they become a priest.
Coptic Orthodox Christians follow a different calendar than those of the Catholic faith and other
religions. Our calendar is called the Gregorian calendar, and this means that some holidays fall on
different days. For example, we always celebrate Christmas on January 7th while Catholics celebrate
it on December 25th. It is still the same holiday being celebrated which is the birth of Jesus Christ, but
it just comes during a different

David Diamond s The Love Machine
Just like in the 2001: A Space Odyssey, a scientific fiction film, people will soon have something
similar to a HAL 9000. HAL 9000 is a fictional character that was able to interact with it s ship s
astronaut crew to help them complete their mission to Jupiter. However, rather than a HAL, there is a
Laura, a software program, who will hopefully help people in their daily lives. David Diamond is a
participant who spent 100 days with Laura via web to improve his exercise regimen. In his article The
Love Machine, it is effectively written through the use of tone and organization. In David Diamond s

the possibility of computers tutoring students, and Jeffrey s article, he explains how Turkle is

Open Carry In Criminal Justice Cases
According to Tribune Review analysis of Department of National Justice Caseload Data, 29.2 percent
of criminal violation citations had weak or insufficient admissible evidence; 25 percent had lack of
evidence of criminal intent; 9.2 percent had no federal offense evident; and 5 percent had insufficient
evidence. Statistics and data typically aren t very intimidating, however these are. These statistics
indicate that law enforcement officers and public officials are taking advantage of people who know
nothing of their own civil rights and liberties. Knowing your rights is vital to avoiding infringement,
and possible false incarceration. Violation of these rights isn t something new, it s been occurring for
many years, and many of your rights today were founded on some of the cases that have dealt with it.
One example, is Miranda vs Arizona, the supreme court ruled detained criminal suspects, prior to
police questioning, must be informed of their constitutional right to an attorney and against self
incrimination (Miranda v Arizona, Alex Mcbride).

open carry is legal in 45 U.S. states (Joshua Gillen). Open carry should be permitted in every state, it
is part of the Constitution. Innocent citizens are being stopped by the Police for simply exercising their
right to open carry. Often times citizens are stopped at gunpoint and treated as if they were a criminal.
If we do not continue to exercise this right, harassment will only persist. There are multiple videos on

A Study of Outsiders Integrating Into a Puritan Community...
Popular mythology conjures up images of Puritan New England as a pious, homogenous, agrarian
community, a Citty upon a Hill intended to inspire the English homeland to turn to Puritan ways.(1)
However, Puritan New England was more than a collection of small, agrarian communities. The
harbors of New England supported shipping and fishing industries, and abundant timber and ore
supplies inspired the Puritans of North America to pursue a colonial version of the English iron
industry. These new American Ironworks required skilled labor; it was not possible simply to take the
offspring of Puritan farmers and merchants and turn them into iron workers. The experienced, skilled
laborers needed were mostly recruited from England and, generally, ... Show more content on

The Puritans of New England were not renowned for their willingness to accept outsiders into their
communities. According to The book of the general lauus and libertyes concerning the inhabitants of
the Massachusets, individuals, and whole towns, were statutorily prohibited from allowing any
stranger to reside within the jurisdiction for more than three weeks without permission from a
magistrate.(3) As an illustration, in May 1663 John Emery was charged with harboring Quakers, and
also was presented on suspicion of breaking the law in entertaining Mr Greenland four months. (4) A
cursory reading of the Essex court records reveals that Greenland was a doctor who was singularly
unsuccessful in controlling his carnal lust. A more detailed recitation of his exploits is unnecessary
here, but as a stranger to the community, Greenland s behavior made him undesirable to that
community, and the community had an interest in, and took action toward, securing his removal. In
fact, six citizens even went so far as to file an additional suit against Emery, [f]or breach of a town
order of Newbery, in entertaining Mr. Greenland to the great prejudice of the town. (5) But why would
a community that refused to tolerate an amorous physician extend toleration to a family of rude,
profane iron workers? The answer may lie in some combination of the Leonards relationship to the
church and the relative scarcity of the

Quietly scribbling away on his math test, Sam looks up to see a new student entering the classroom.
The teacher is overjoyed to see the new student and abandons her stern monitoring mood to welcome
him. When the test has concluded, the teacher introduces the new student as brilliant, making Sam
squirm in his seat since he has the highest grades in the class. By the end of the year, the new student
has overcome Sam s grades; Sam feels futile. Humans feel futile for a variety of reasons, causing them
to change and act in certain ways. In the novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, Philip K. Dick
shows how Rick Deckard s behavior declines for a number of different reasons through Rick s
depression. Rick Deckard shows his depression in a variety of ways in Philip Dick s novel. Within the
first two pages of the novel, Dick shows the first sign of Rick s depression. His day begins with a
rather unpleasant experience with his wife Iran. After waking up in a dismayed mood and resisting
Rick s attempts to cheer her up, Iran titles Rick as a murderer hired by the cops (Dick 4). Rick, having

to Deckard. In his biography of Dick, Mackey comments on how one Philip Dick s novels chronicled

Taste of Cherry 1997 Film
Using the Rosenbaum Ford debate I will be analyzing how Abbas Kiarostami s 1997 film Taste of
Cherry s epilogue and final scene comment on post revolutionary Iran using the open image as well as
how each has argued on what the scenes have achieved in relation to the rest of the film.
The film has been mostly well received by international critics winning a Palme d OR at Cannes but
not so much in Iran as many felt it had problematic images of the society of the time. It follows the
protagonist Mr. Badii as he rides through the outskirts of Tehran looking for someone to help him
complete a task. As the film is shot in Iran it will carry signs of post revolutionary Iranian culture
already opening up our curiosity to the cultural discourse that surrounds the film. What Kiarostami
does is portray an Iranian image and by including the epilogue raises questions of how to transcend it.
In his writing Rosenbaum s argument that the end sequence acts as a relief from the solitude of Mr.
Baadhi s consciousness and journey that we have followed is based on the motif of solitude that
Kiarostami established throughout the film. He sees it as an uplifting ending, one that gives the film a
hopefulness that had up to then not been present, stating that it is the opposite to the distancing effect
felt beforehand that Kiarostami had created.
Hamish Ford on the other hand has a different view, seeing the epilogue as a kind of cop out on
Kiarostami s part. Kiarostami creates a visual and

Corruption in Corporate America
Corruption in Corporate America As said in every economics class, the reason every business goes
into business is to make money. The same can be said in criminal cases involving businesses. In the
majority of cases, executives and people highly ranked in the company tend to bend the numbers in
the financial/accounting areas of the business or corporation. They do not do this for fun, but rather to
make money. Something needs to be done before corporations really get out of hand. Thankfully, after
the Enron Corporation scandal, the government has recently started to crack down on corporations and
pay more attention to what they are doing. This is due to the extent of what Enron Corp did for so
long. From approximately 1996 to 2001, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I feel that the people who commit these crimes are just overwhelmingly greedy and cannot control
themselves. If they were able to build up the company, they obviously are intelligent minds and more
than likely already have a significant amount of money. Something needs to be done, especially when
so many people are affected. Millions of people lost so much money and too many lost their life
savings just because the people at the top of Enron were greedy. It seems as though the government is
taking small steps in the right direction. However, I feel that more needs to be done especially because
some of these companies are funding and supplying potential terrorists. That is just outrageous and
shows the extent of what people will do to make money. This is difficult to control and monitor but
more steps need to be made. Hopefully the politicians and others of the future will recognize this ever
growing problem and solve it for the companies to

Essay about How Chritianity Affected People in India
How did Christianity affect the people of India?
Introductory
Religions have been around for many thousands of years. Catholicism is one of the largest religions in
the world. India is a country in Asia, and is a little bigger than Texas, but has over 2 billion people. A
2001 survey showed there to a little over 24 million Christians in India (Christianity). This topic was
appealing to me because I had lived in a boarding school in India from fourth grade to sixth grade. I
had seen the effects of this religion on the people and how they reacted towards change. I had seen
how people adapted to the religion and how people put down the religion turning to other religions
such as Hinduism and Buddhism. I can relate to these people because ... Show more content on

Background
The British people had been in India since the 18th century, and had enslaved the people, but finally
left in 1947. Throughout this time, the Indian people were being forced to do things that the English
people did not want to do. The Indian people were enslaved by a much more powerful nation. The
main religion of India is Hinduism. This religion is much more complicated than many other religions,
instead of one main god there are many gods. Many things that Indian people do have been altered to
mean other things (mission frontier). There are also people that are called demi gods, who somewhat
have the power of god and are able to use their powers whenever they want to. An example of this is a
man named khans. He had the powers of a god because he had prayed for a very long time, and had
done something else that is not very important. During this time there was a god by the name of
Krishna whose uncle was khans. Khans had become evil through the lust of power and Krishna had to
stop him (Park). This shows just one of the many beliefs of the Hindu people. Many people had gone
to India to show the people what Christianity has to offer and many people reaped the benefits.
According to one Indian resident, many of the people that the Christians tried to help were the poor.

Racial Profiling and Male African Americans
What comes to your mind when you think of an interaction an authoritative figure (police, teacher,
principal)? In the African American community it is usually fear and anxiety of the motive of the
authoritative figure, especially if you are a male. The intersection of race and gender for the African
American male provides a basis for premature judgment by many authoritative figures in their lives.
African American males deserve the same equality to succeed in life as any other human being

Now consider the number of innocents that never get this chance at redemption. Currently the Federal
Bureau of Investigation is collecting racial and ethnic information and mapping American
communities based on crude stereotypes about which groups commit different types of crime and
sharing it with unknown state, local and federal agencies (American Civil Liberties Union, 2012).
Since 9/11 the operating parameters Americans expect to protect their rights to privacy have been
obliterated. The FBI can now initiate an investigation of a person without the standards of just cause
that once protected the rights of all Americans. To the African American male this is nothing new,
random searches and undue investigations have always been a part of being an AAM. From a police
prospective there are ongoing efforts to equalize the authorities governing the communities focused on
diversifying the system and gaining trust amongst the inhabitants. Jones Brown (2001) argues that to
be black and male amounts to a fatal profile for which there has been little to no judicial redress. She
cites Natapoff (2004) in noting that one in four black males 20 29 years of age is locked up, on
probation or parole, or being pressured to snitch. The research goes further to say that one in twelve in
high crime areas are snitching under duress causing a social breakdown of communities nationwide.

Comparing Democracy In Norway And The United States
Of that less than 5% remaining full democracies, Norway has been ranked the best democracy in the
world. On the other hand, the relegation of the United States from a full democracy to a flawed
democracy can be traced back to American voters losing trust in political institutions and the
increasing role of lobbying. With their automatic voter registration, collaborating political parties, and
healthy relationship between lawmakers and citizens, Norway s democratic success is no surprise in
comparison to the United States of America.
The political structure of both nations also contributes to their major differences. Norway is a
constitutional monarchy with the king as the head of state and a parliamentary democracy system
composed of three branches: the executive, legislative, and judicial. The constitution grants executive
powers to the king, but the cabinet, appointed by the prime minister, exercises these rights. The
monarch appoints a prime minister to acts as the political leader and head of government. The prime
minister is given limited legislative powers but controls the party of parliament as well as the
legislative and executive branch. The judicial branch, the highest court in Norway, is led by judges
appointed by the monarch. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Sex Tourism In Thailand Essay
Sex tourism examines the issues that emerge from a sex worker (prostitute) and tourist
(farang/customer) interactions. Sex Tourism is progressively spreading and it is now a worldwide
subject matter that every country can relate to some way or the other. Sex tourism it has been around
for decades and it has grown more widespread. This industry is very well understood by the tourist. It
is not formally publicized; it is rather through informal exchanges, word of mouth and internet, that
the farang gets to know who to see and where to go. In Thailand sex tourism is a main source of
income for many rural families. These families are poor and the fact that the state of the economy of
the country is bad it makes the situation worse. In this analytical essay, I will argue the cause and
origin of prostitution as a result of the Current economic status in Thailand.
Sex tourism, for the vast majority, conjures up an image of red light districts in places like Amsterdam
and Patpong Bangkok. However, the historical backdrop of sex tourism dates back to the time of the
industrial revolution era (1820s 1840s). During the Vietnam war, a large number of U.S soldiers were
involved in the boom of the brothels industry and organized prostitutions. According to class lectures,
the U.S government allowed the soldiers to go to Thailand for Rest and Recreation (R R). (holiday sex

The Phenomenon Of Violent Political Islamism
3. Discuss the phenomenon of violent political Islamism. What are its origins, aims and grievances?
How ought we to deal with the phenomenon?
Political Islam, or Islamism, is the instrumental use of Islam to pursue socio political objectives. Islam
in this case is not merely a religious construct, but a political ideology. Individuals, groups, and
organisations pursue political ideas and programs based on Islamic principles and concepts. They aim
to implement Islamic law (Sharia) in both the public and private domain. Islamism is often mobilised
in existing political issues, and has become a vehicle and vocabulary for the expression of many
different agendas in the Muslim world . It is the most dominant ideology in the Muslim world.
While not all political Islamism is violent, it is undeniable that violent extremism occurs in the Middle
East, North Africa, and South Asia. In this essay, I analyse the phenomenon of violent political
Islamism, focusing on the Middle East. I investigate its macro level historical and political origins,
and the micro level factors which influence the use of violence. I discuss its aims and grievances, and
provide suggestions on how to deal with this phenomenon.

The Sixth Extinction Elizabeth Korlbert Summary
The non fiction book that I decided to read was, The Sixth Extinction: An Unnatural History by

of the non fiction book selections. Since I already knew most of the reasons why animals went extinct,
this book didn t have an impact me. But when I previously learned about animals extinction, I was
impacted because it let me know what happened to dead species species. Examples of this could

hunting when I was in middle school. There weren t really any emotions that were evoked during or

But, this book has 13 chapters each explaining evidence of extinction, theories, or animals that had
been extinct. Animals that were talked about included the Great Auks and Mammoths. Reasons for the
extinctions were the obvious ones such as hunting and global warming. In a summary, Kolbert
explains the extinctions of a variety of different major animal species that became extinct. She also
explains that if trends in the environment continue that the biggest extinction in history will occur
soon. If global warming, deforestation, and glaciers continue to melt she says that more and more
species will continue to become extinct. She explains how humans need to be more conservative and
careful with what they re doing to prevent extinction. Overall, I did not enjoy reading this book. Since
I knew about most of the information being stated in the book, such as Darwin s theory and global
climate change, it was kind of like listening to a lecture of something that you already know a lot
about. Also, the fact that this book was straight facts and knowledge didn t lead me to liking it either.
It was just throwing so much knowledge at you that it had you wondered what you had just read after
reading just one page. Because of this, the book got confusing and especially boring. Also the book
had no structure and was put into chapters that made the reading more confusing. So in conclusion, I

The Lie Society s Living
The Lie Society s Living
A man opening his front door with a briefcase in his hand, yells, Honey I m home! after a tiring day at
work has been shown in many movies and TV shows in America, but is this an accurate representation
of our society life today? Is it men who is still the head of the house or has society changed throughout
the years? Is the struggle of women being seconded with making decisions a valid point? Stephen
Marche s article Home Economic: The Link Between Work Life Balance and Income Equality
presents the argument that the major struggle in domestic life isn t men versus women or mothers
versus fathers; it s the family against money (1). Marche s ideas in the article are only a small step in
the right in the right direction, but are correct in his verdicts (might change word).
Marche begins explaining his take on the article Why Women Still Can t Have it All? by Anne Marie

odd men are not in the picture with the discussion of work and life and concludes that the decision

Dreams from My Father Essay
Essay: Dreams From My Father
Barack Obama s Dreams From My Father is exactly what it claims to be by title, a story of race and
identity. Barack Obama comes from a diverse background, which he explores throughout the book.
Having a white American mother and black Kenyan father, he has a different experience than the
majority of people in society when it comes to race and identity, however still it seems similar to the
experience of many blacks as described in William E. Cross s Black Psychological theory, the
Nigresence Model of Racial Identity Development. While Obama s experience does not necessarily

how someone enters each stage of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At this stage, it is suggested that an individual sees him or herself as part of the entire human family,
proud to be black, but not limited to blackness. The individual sees people only as people, not as black
people, or white people, etc. Furthermore, one thing that pertains particularly to Barack, in my
opinion, is that individuals in this stage enjoy regular company of a wide array of people and most
importantly fight for a wide array of causes, which are not specific to race.
Getting to this place was a journey for Obama just as it is for all others, in my opinion. My perception
of the encounter, for Barack, was neither horribly negative, nor very positive. He was simply lost, it
seemed. As a young child attending a prestigious school in Hawaii, Barack Obama was cared for by
his white American mother and grandparents, but was a brown child, having also a black Kenyan
father. Barack was an outcast for everyone, being secluded from the whites because of his look, and
having a different outlook than other black students at his school who held the view that they were
oppressed by white people. It was far from sensible that the people who loved, cared for, and
supported him the most could oppress Barack.
Curiosity was inevitable for the boy, however, and led him into what William E. Cross s Nigresence
Model declared was the immersion stage of racial identity for a black person. In this stage, African
Americans basically submerge

Essay On Reconstruction After The Civil War
From April 12, 1861, to May 9, 1865, the United States had one of its bloodiest conflicts that it was
ever involved in. The Civil War was a war between the North and the South of the United States.
During this war, there were around 620,000 men that were killed. This war ended after Confederate
general Edmund Kirby Smith surrendered his troops. At this point the fighting had ceased, however,
the tensions between the North and the South were still present. There were still disagreements on the
rights of the now freed blacks. After the Civil War, there was a question on how the South would re
enter the government of the Union and how the southern states were going to view the blacks. This
time period after the Civil War where these questions were answered is known as The Reconstruction
and lasted from 1863 1877. During this time period, President Lincoln was murdered and President
Johnson was impeached. Congress also made major additions to the Constitution that they thought
would bring equality to the South. These changes caused a backlash and whites tried to get back to the
way things were before the war when whites had all the power. Despite a few positive outcomes, this
era of reconstruction of the South ultimately failed. Presidents Lincoln s plan in 1863 was to reunite ...

Gargoyles Research Paper
Gargoyles were defining elements of the Gothic period, constructed primarily by Elliot Viollet Le Duc
in the 19th century as part of a restoration project of the Notre Dame Cathedral. Gargoyles served as a
political commentary of the times, and a functional purpose of protecting the Cathedral. The most
iconic gargoyle, the Pensive Demon, sits atop Notre Dame Cathedral s South tower. This statue is
actually a chimera, not a gargoyle, since it isn t functional to the building and is purely decor. Also

great bells provided amplification of sound when they went off, an important function that told
citizens when to awake or pray . Viollet le Duc was appalled at the actions of the rebels that recklessly
tore down the old gargoyles and replaced them with lead pipes, which proved ineffective and caused
significant water damage to the cathedral. Gargoyles served a very important purpose of steering
water out of the cathedral along with being artistically sound. While researching, Viollet le Duc
realized how useful it is to multiply gargoyles in masses so that the drainage system would be
perfected. Limestone was a material that could be cut into long, thin shapes and would further
accentuate decorative qualities of the gargoyles, along with helping to anchor the building and provide
extra support . Viollet le Duc insisted on proving the gargoyles functionality to a point of absurdity. He
created gargoyles that held pots to further steer water away. He also formulated canopies for the
gargoyles, during a time where canopies were reserved for saints and holy purposes. Viollet le Duc
either found his gargoyles to be sacred, or he was further making fun of religion and its symbolism
and his distaste for it . All of these elements prove a point that Viollet le Duc s main goal was
preservation of the structure after restoration, and he found gargoyles to be the most modern and
functional elements of its gothic

Biblical Teachings And Essential For My Future Ministry
After rereading through Stonehouse and The Child in the Bible I have chosen six biblical
teachings/themes that I believe are important and essential for my future ministry. The six themes
includes: Children are a gift from God, God sees children as blessings, children need to be taught how
to develop a relationship with God, God commands us to protect the children, God cares about
children enough to ensure that they receive discipline, and God asks adults to learn from them. The
passage of Scripture that I would choose to describe and lead my future Children s Ministry is
Proverbs 22:6. Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it . I
chose this piece of Scripture to lead my ministry because it challenges the Children s Ministers,
parents and congregation to equip the child so that they can all work together on their faith. In my
ministry I want to make sure that at an early age children are intentionally encouraged to develop a
personal relationship with Christ. This passage in Proverbs challenges the children s parents. The
parents need to be equipped with skills to engage their children in conversations at home that
encourage a relationship with God. In The Child in the Bible Patrick D. Miller talks about how parents
need to be ready when their children ask questions. He uses Deuteronomy 6:20 25 to explain. ...
Moses tells the people to expect to be asked question by their children: When in the future your child
asks you...

Red Figure Volute Krater
From the St. Petersburg Museum of Fine Arts to the Metropolitan Museum of Arts, this paper will
analysis and compare the visual aspects of the Red Figure Volute Krater (330 320 BCE) and the earlier
Terracotta Krater (750 735 BCE) about their similarities and differences that extend across time.
Along with the two kraters we will also discuss the quality of St. Petersburg Museum of Fine Arts
environment. The St. Petersburg Museum of Fine Arts stands out from its surrounding with is
dimensions alone, being only two stories it is dramatically shorter than any other building and its
width covering near a city block makes it wider than any other building in the vicinity. The exterior of
the museum constructed in a similar design to that of Greek ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The size of the krater being the second largest artwork, at approximately thirty inches, in the room
helps it stand out from other pieces, but is still eclipsed by the Terracotta Krater (750 735 BCE) at
approximately forty two inches. Size is not the only thing both kraters share that continued across
time, contrasting colors also prevails in both pieces. The Red Figure Volute Krater (330 320 BCE)
illustrating a white subject against a black background and the Terracotta Krater (750 735 BCE) with
black subjects and yellow or lighter background. Kraters themselves are known to be used to water
down wine, but with the funerary scenes on both kraters they would have been more likely used as
grave markers. The placement of the Red Figure Volute Krater (330 320 BCE) being next to other
grave markers within the museum helps to exemplify this as well as the information label associated
to it. The use of visually encompassing the main figure persisted across time, but with slight
differences. In the Red Figure Volute Krater (330 320 BCE) the main subject is surrounded by a
Naiskos , or funerary shrine, whereas the Terracotta Krater (750 735 BCE) the main subject is covered
or surrounded with burial cloth. Another visual aspect that both kraters have are figures on the
outsides showing respect towards the deceased. On both kraters the figures showing respect are
illustrated as women since in that era men were not to show emotions or attend the funeral. The Red
Figure Volute Krater shows this by the reddish brown figure how women were portrayed and the
Terracotta Krater by small marks indicating breast. Across the length of time, both kraters also have
other commonalities such as the main figure s nudity for their heroism or divinity and the inclusion of
spears and/or war

Cognitive Theory
The cognitive restructuring theory commands that one s personal impractical philosophies are
precisely responsible for producing dysfunctional feelings and their subsequent behaviors, such as
anxiety, despair, and social extractions; and humans can be purged of such feelings and their validities
by demolishing the theories that give them life. The cognitive restructuring model is a proven model
in addressing behavioral issues concerning stroke victims and adolescents. Team A s focus will be
addressing the perceptions into these interventions. Behavioral changes can be difficult, but for a
stroke victim it can be even more challenging due to cognitive deficiencies after a stroke. These
changes are not only grueling to accept, but create ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An example of an exercise used to assist clients is documenting daily events that bring on unwanted
actions. Adolescents suffering from depression are often asked to record thoughts on situations
happening is day to day life. When a situation happens that furthers or intensifies the clients unwanted
behavior, thoughts are recorded, this is to monitor and change specific behaviors and thoughts. By
reporting ones thoughts and feelings the individual can document what has happened, what thoughts
are happening, and what changes need to be made to improve the unwanted behavior. By continuing
to document feelings and thoughts of depression, the adolescent will be able to notice a change in their
own behavior; they will be able to realize that emotions are dictating how they react to certain events.
With the documenting process of cognitive restructuring, many individuals will be capable of
changing their own thought process for the better. Each session with the depressed adolescent should
be well structured with feedback from the adolescent, frequent feedback allows the client to be heavily
involved and will bring about different emotions. Emotions are the overall goal, being aware of one s
emotional state during life events is a key to altering the depressive behavior. Further intervention
steps in cognitive restructuring for adolescents will include coping skills and scheduling. Depression

Symbols In The Glass Castle
The Glass Castle is a memoir by Jeanette Walls in which she tells the story of her childhood and the
way she became who she is. Her path to her balanced present was too difficult and full of hardships,
yet she managed to become a successful and prosperous person whose life experience gives her a push
to make her life happy. It stands to mention that the novel is full of symbols which contribute to reader
s understanding of Jeanette s character and represent her most important traits and desires. Besides, all
the symbols such as the fire, the Joshua tree, the geode and the glass castle are recurring and
contribute to understanding the struggle of Jeanette s childhood, her ability to overcome it and build a
successful life. Fire is an important symbol in the novel as it occurs frequently there. It ... Show more

Despite the fact that she almost dies in a fire cooking hot dogs, she does not fear it and even admires it
instead. Jeanette likes to play with matches and candles, and in the episode in the hotel bathroom, she
flushes burning matches into the toilet. It clearly shows how she tries to gain control over it as one can
t live in fear of something as basic as fire . Jeanette chooses to keep it under control thus trying to
control her own life. However, she understands that fire is stronger than she is as she waits for
something to go wrong: . . . what I did know was that I lived in a world that at any moment could
erupt into fire . As a matter of interest, Jeanette s father becomes the cause of a fire, directly or
implicitly, for instance, when burning the Christmas tree down or when Jeanette uses his matches to
start a fire in the shack where she and Brian conduct an experiment with flammable materials or in the
hotel bathroom. One of the main reasons of Jeanette s unstable life is her

She is the soul that has been placed inside the body of an unwilling human host that once belonged to
a girl named Melanie Stryder. Her true form owns the same appearance as all souls ; ghostly, silver,
and reflective with many small, feather like attachments. However, while inhabiting the body of her
host, Melanie Stryder, she obtains her physical attributes, which include tan skin and long, dark, and
glossy hair. Her name implies her traits; she was named Wanderer because, in her previous eight lives,
she had traveled to many planets and knows little to nothing about human culture and behavior,
making her stick out of the crowd of humans. It is safe to assume that she is a pacifist, for she states in
the book multiple times that her kind doesn t believe in violence. At the end of the book, Wanderer is
placed into another host and gains long, golden hair, freckles, gray eyes, a dimple, and a decrease in
height. She becomes delicate and petite, for the soul that was in the body last was that way.
Melanie Stryder is a major character in the book, for she is the previous owner of the body that
Wanderer was placed into. She is quite defiant in the beginning, refusing to cooperate and allow
Wanderer to take over her body completely. This creates conflict for both girls because they are
nothing alike. Melanie is very determined and is known to have a negative mind,

China s National Interests Essay examples
Evaluate the relative importance of the factors that shape the national interest in one Asia Pacific state
you have studied this year.
National interest outlines the goals or objectives of foreign policy and is used as an all embracing
concept to justify policy preferences and actions. These commonly guide the interactions that occur in
the global political arena. China s key national interests consist of economic development, secession
and territorial integrity, creating a harmonious society and a peaceful rise within the international
community. The People s Republic of China is widely believed to be the world s next superpower by
2030 so the pursuit of these national interests is important in maintaining their strong economy to help

Central to China s national interest is the determination that regions such as Tibet and Taiwan which
have historically challenged the autonomy of Beijing will not seek, declare, or attempt to attain
independence. If one of these regions were to successfully break away from Beijing, it is feared that
others would be encouraged to do the same. China s territory must remain intact and Beijing refers to
these pressures as one of the three forbidden forces of terrorism, extremism and separatism . In order
to prevent the Uighurs from seceding in China, Beijing implemented the heal Xinjiang plan 2010 to
achieve long term social stability through leap frog economic growth . This aims to raise the GDP of
the Xinjiang region, raise annual income of both urban and rural residents and increase local access to
public services to national levels by 2015. China has also used its military power as an instrument to
deter regions from challenging China s sovereignty. It is estimated that in 2012, China has
strategically placed 1,800 missiles on its coast facing Taiwan as a reminder to the island of the dangers
of formally declaring independence.
Increasing social tensions within China have led the Communist Party, at the 17th annual Chinese
Party Congress, to

The Anatomy Of Corporate Fraud Essay
Article Critique #1 The first article researched was The Anatomy of Corporate Fraud: A comparative
Analysis of High Profile American and European Corporate Scandals. The abstract discusses the
analysis conducted on the three major American accounting scandals; Enron, WorldCom, and
HealthSouth, and compares to the three major European accounting scandals; Parmalat, Royal Ahold,
and Vivendi Universal. Bahram Soltani (2014), also discusses within the abstract the different areas
reviewed regarding why the accounting scandals occurred; ethical climate, tone at the top, bubble
economy and market control, fraudulent financial reporting, accountability, control, auditing,
governance, and management compensation (p. 251). Between 2001 and 2003 there were several
corporate accounting scandals that occurred that took the world by surprise. A lot of investors lost a lot
of money and several employees lost their jobs. These accounting scandals occurred due to
management misconduct, fraud, and scams that occurred within these companies. Within the United
States, the big cases typically viewed are the Enron, WorldCom, and HealthSouth cases, however, it is
forgotten that Europe experienced a similar situation with Parmalat, Royal Ahold, and Vivendi
Universal. Soltani (2014), discusses the importance of understanding the motivation and causes of
financial corporate scandals. Soltani (2014) notes three research questions associated with this article:

HE WAS DEAD BEFORE SHE HEARD THE DEAFENING GUNSHOT.
She helplessly watched in horror as the murderous bullet cracked as loud as thunder and ripped
through the air faster than the speed of light, come in contact with his skin in a matter of milliseconds.
A crimson red hole appeared on his forehead as quick as a lightning s flash, and slowly a trail of blood
leaked from his wound down his face.
She watched as the shining light faded out of his burnt umber and caramel mixed eyes that once
glowed with happiness, and were now completely vacant of any emotion. Nothing was there other
than his dark irises which held a profound sadness that yearned for justice.
Her heartbroken eyes trailed down his lifeless body, starting from his turned down collar of his grey,

pulse vibrated as if a violin bow were drawn over her nerves. Her cheeks turned the colour of scarlet
and felt as hot as a billion burning suns, as fire entwined her veins and slithered like a snake up her
spine. All she felt was anger.
The anger flowed through her veins and killed her mind as if it was a deadly toxin to her spirit. Her
eyes which were once full of innocence and happiness were now full of fire and would kill anybody in
their path. Just by looking into her burning stare would slash you into tiny, bloody pieces. No one that

Florida Fish Problems
The influence of the Gulf of Mexico and the Gulfstream in Southwest Florida Waters make the
temperature just right for literally hundreds of different kinds of fish. In 2011, Florida s recreational
anglers caught roughly 121 million marine fish, 74 million of which were released. These statistics
support the notion that fishing may be one of the most loved hobbies. Since fishing efforts have been
drastically increasing over the years, dozens of species are threatened with extinction and many more
are experiencing serious population declines. In order to ensure that a fish s populations will remain
sustainable for future generations, anglers need regulations that will sustain the existence of a fish
population.
In 1999, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, or FWC, was funded in order to
manage and regulate Florida s fish and wildlife resources. Their mission was To manage fish ... Show

The Collier County Health Department has confirmed that all of these pollutants are present in Naples
Bay, some to an alarming degree. Each year, volunteers pick up several tons of general trash from the
Naples Bay area, all in one cleanup day! Over 70 water areas in South Florida have been posted for
dangerous levels of Mercury, a bad actor in the heavy metals category. Pollution is a silent killer,
because it takes expensive sampling and measurement to determine its presence, after the fact. For
those people that eat fish (probably 99% of us), the risks of illness are very real. Even if a fish was
caught offshore or down south in the 10,000 Islands it may have spent earlier years surviving in a
polluted environment. Our clam industry left southwest Florida a long time ago. These bivalves are

  • 2. Case Study Of Porter s Diamond Topic: Does Porter s Diamond concept convincingly explain the achievements of major national business systems, or are their weaknesses, theoretically and empirically, in his arguments? There exist classical theories of international trade which discuss the reasons why particular industries and particular economies are more competitive than the rest. In his book The Competitive Advantage of Nations, Michael E Porter argued or analyzed the broad factors which determined the competitiveness of certain economies and industries. This model is based on four nation s specific factors and two external variables. The four cornerstones of the diamond model are the factor conditions, the demand conditions, the related and supporting industries and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is interesting to note that nestles 95% percent of its revenue is earned outside its home based of Switzerland. Rugman s analysis resulted in the double diamond being creative which is a better tool to analyze the international competitiveness. Rugman s criticism of Porters diamond appears have to be successful as Porter himself later on admitted that firms can have multiple home bases. For instance, Mexico s economic future is closely linked to its neighbor the United States of America and also through North America. Hence the double diamond proposed by Rugman proves to be more effective in determining Mexico s success/ resurgence in various economic sectors. One of the four cornerstones of the Porters diamond is the importance of rivalry. In the year 1993 Lazonick argued that rivalry alone cannot cause firms to innovate. He was of the opinion that when the firms face too much pressure from competitors, it may cause the companies to adapt and imitate instead of innovation. For instance when US firms faced challenges from foreign competitor s cooperation rather than rivalry became necessary to prevent loss of market share to foreign ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Essay On Coptic Orthodoxy A micro culture is a group of people within a culture that differentiates them from the larger culture to which they belong. As a member of the Christian faith, a micro culture that I strongly associate myself with is Coptic Orthodoxy. There are many branches of Christianity all over the world today and Coptic Orthodoxy is one that is constantly growing. Coptic Orthodoxy is a branch of Christianity influenced by the teachings of Saint Mark in Egypt. Many refer to this faith as being Coptic . It is not significantly unique to just the United States of California. There are Coptic Orthodox Christians all over the world today and the numbers are always on the rise. This branch was first introduced thousands of years ago, so it is not entirely ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Wearing this cross shows that a person is bearing their cross just like Jesus did when He was being crucified. A lot of Copts, especially those who were born in Egypt and came to the United States, have a cross tattooed on the inside of their wrist. It is more common to find those who were born in Egypt to have this small tattoo because they get it from a very young age, but it is becoming more popular that youth who were born in the United States to get a bigger and more dramatic form of the tattoo when they grow up. This also symbolizes a person bearing their cross but in a different way than just wearing a necklace. I, personally, always wear my necklace but have yet to get a tattoo on my wrist. Also, priests of the Coptic Orthodox faith are required to wear a black tunic at all times and must grow a beard from the time that they become a priest. Coptic Orthodox Christians follow a different calendar than those of the Catholic faith and other religions. Our calendar is called the Gregorian calendar, and this means that some holidays fall on different days. For example, we always celebrate Christmas on January 7th while Catholics celebrate it on December 25th. It is still the same holiday being celebrated which is the birth of Jesus Christ, but it just comes during a different ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

HAL 9000 is a fictional character that was able to interact with it s ship s astronaut crew to help them complete their mission to Jupiter. However, rather than a HAL, there is a Laura, a software program, who will hopefully help people in their daily lives. David Diamond is a participant who spent 100 days with Laura via web to improve his exercise regimen. In his article The Love Machine, it is effectively written through the use of tone and organization. Because of this experience, Turkle says that some robotic toys possess seductive and potentially dangerous powers (par 4). However, Turkle does believe they have benefits. Open Carry In Criminal Justice Cases According to Tribune Review analysis of Department of National Justice Caseload Data, 29.2 percent of criminal violation citations had weak or insufficient admissible evidence; 25 percent had lack of evidence of criminal intent; 9.2 percent had no federal offense evident; and 5 percent had insufficient evidence. Statistics and data typically aren t very intimidating, however these are. These statistics indicate that law enforcement officers and public officials are taking advantage of people who know nothing of their own civil rights and liberties. Knowing your rights is vital to avoiding infringement, and possible false incarceration. Violation of these rights isn t something new, it s been occurring for many years, and many of your rights today were founded on some of the cases that have dealt with it. One example, is Miranda vs Arizona, the supreme court ruled detained criminal suspects, prior to police questioning, must be informed of their constitutional right to an attorney and against self incrimination (Miranda v Arizona, Alex Mcbride). • 6. A Study of Outsiders Integrating Into a Puritan Community... Popular mythology conjures up images of Puritan New England as a pious, homogenous, agrarian community, a Citty upon a Hill intended to inspire the English homeland to turn to Puritan ways.(1) However, Puritan New England was more than a collection of small, agrarian communities. The harbors of New England supported shipping and fishing industries, and abundant timber and ore supplies inspired the Puritans of North America to pursue a colonial version of the English iron industry. These new American Ironworks required skilled labor; it was not possible simply to take the offspring of Puritan farmers and merchants and turn them into iron workers. The experienced, skilled laborers needed were mostly recruited from England and, generally, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Puritans of New England were not renowned for their willingness to accept outsiders into their communities. According to The book of the general lauus and libertyes concerning the inhabitants of the Massachusets, individuals, and whole towns, were statutorily prohibited from allowing any stranger to reside within the jurisdiction for more than three weeks without permission from a magistrate.(3) As an illustration, in May 1663 John Emery was charged with harboring Quakers, and also was presented on suspicion of breaking the law in entertaining Mr Greenland four months. (4) A cursory reading of the Essex court records reveals that Greenland was a doctor who was singularly unsuccessful in controlling his carnal lust. A more detailed recitation of his exploits is unnecessary here, but as a stranger to the community, Greenland s behavior made him undesirable to that community, and the community had an interest in, and took action toward, securing his removal. In fact, six citizens even went so far as to file an additional suit against Emery, [f]or breach of a town order of Newbery, in entertaining Mr. Greenland to the great prejudice of the town. (5) But why would a community that refused to tolerate an amorous physician extend toleration to a family of rude, profane iron workers? • 7. Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep Rick Deckard Character... Quietly scribbling away on his math test, Sam looks up to see a new student entering the classroom. The teacher is overjoyed to see the new student and abandons her stern monitoring mood to welcome him. When the test has concluded, the teacher introduces the new student as brilliant, making Sam squirm in his seat since he has the highest grades in the class. By the end of the year, the new student has overcome Sam s grades; Sam feels futile. Humans feel futile for a variety of reasons, causing them to change and act in certain ways. In the novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, Philip K. Dick shows how Rick Deckard s behavior declines for a number of different reasons through Rick s depression. Rick Deckard shows his depression in a variety of ways in Philip Dick s novel. Within the first two pages of the novel, Dick shows the first sign of Rick s depression. His day begins with a rather unpleasant experience with his wife Iran. In his biography of Dick, Mackey comments on how one Philip Dick s novels chronicled the pain and futility of his drug years (4). • 8. Taste of Cherry 1997 Film Using the Rosenbaum Ford debate I will be analyzing how Abbas Kiarostami s 1997 film Taste of Cherry s epilogue and final scene comment on post revolutionary Iran using the open image as well as how each has argued on what the scenes have achieved in relation to the rest of the film. The film has been mostly well received by international critics winning a Palme d OR at Cannes but not so much in Iran as many felt it had problematic images of the society of the time. It follows the protagonist Mr. Badii as he rides through the outskirts of Tehran looking for someone to help him complete a task. As the film is shot in Iran it will carry signs of post revolutionary Iranian culture already opening up our curiosity to the cultural discourse that surrounds the film. What Kiarostami does is portray an Iranian image and by including the epilogue raises questions of how to transcend it. In his writing Rosenbaum s argument that the end sequence acts as a relief from the solitude of Mr. Baadhi s consciousness and journey that we have followed is based on the motif of solitude that Kiarostami established throughout the film. He sees it as an uplifting ending, one that gives the film a hopefulness that had up to then not been present, stating that it is the opposite to the distancing effect felt beforehand that Kiarostami had created. Hamish Ford on the other hand has a different view, seeing the epilogue as a kind of cop out on Kiarostami s part. Kiarostami creates a visual and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Corruption in Corporate America Corruption in Corporate America As said in every economics class, the reason every business goes into business is to make money. The same can be said in criminal cases involving businesses. In the majority of cases, executives and people highly ranked in the company tend to bend the numbers in the financial/accounting areas of the business or corporation. They do not do this for fun, but rather to make money. Something needs to be done before corporations really get out of hand. Thankfully, after the Enron Corporation scandal, the government has recently started to crack down on corporations and pay more attention to what they are doing. This is due to the extent of what Enron Corp did for so long. From approximately 1996 to 2001, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Millions of people lost so much money and too many lost their life savings just because the people at the top of Enron were greedy. It seems as though the government is taking small steps in the right direction. However, I feel that more needs to be done especially because some of these companies are funding and supplying potential terrorists. That is just outrageous and shows the extent of what people will do to make money. This is difficult to control and monitor but more steps need to be made. • 10. Essay about How Chritianity Affected People in India How did Christianity affect the people of India? Introductory Religions have been around for many thousands of years. Catholicism is one of the largest religions in the world. India is a country in Asia, and is a little bigger than Texas, but has over 2 billion people. A 2001 survey showed there to a little over 24 million Christians in India (Christianity). This topic was appealing to me because I had lived in a boarding school in India from fourth grade to sixth grade. I had seen the effects of this religion on the people and how they reacted towards change. I had seen how people adapted to the religion and how people put down the religion turning to other religions such as Hinduism and Buddhism. I can relate to these people because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Background The British people had been in India since the 18th century, and had enslaved the people, but finally left in 1947. Throughout this time, the Indian people were being forced to do things that the English people did not want to do. The Indian people were enslaved by a much more powerful nation. The main religion of India is Hinduism. This religion is much more complicated than many other religions, instead of one main god there are many gods. Many things that Indian people do have been altered to mean other things (mission frontier). There are also people that are called demi gods, who somewhat have the power of god and are able to use their powers whenever they want to. An example of this is a man named khans. He had the powers of a god because he had prayed for a very long time, and had done something else that is not very important. During this time there was a god by the name of Krishna whose uncle was khans. Khans had become evil through the lust of power and Krishna had to stop him (Park). This shows just one of the many beliefs of the Hindu people. Many people had gone to India to show the people what Christianity has to offer and many people reaped the benefits. According to one Indian resident, many of the people that the Christians tried to help were the poor. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the African American community it is usually fear and anxiety of the motive of the authoritative figure, especially if you are a male. The intersection of race and gender for the African American male provides a basis for premature judgment by many authoritative figures in their lives. Currently the Federal Bureau of Investigation is collecting racial and ethnic information and mapping American communities based on crude stereotypes about which groups commit different types of crime and sharing it with unknown state, local and federal agencies (American Civil Liberties Union, 2012). Since 9/11 the operating parameters Americans expect to protect their rights to privacy have been obliterated. The FBI can now initiate an investigation of a person without the standards of just cause that once protected the rights of all Americans. To the African American male this is nothing new, random searches and undue investigations have always been a part of being an AAM. From a police prospective there are ongoing efforts to equalize the authorities governing the communities focused on diversifying the system and gaining trust amongst the inhabitants. Jones Brown (2001) argues that to be black and male amounts to a fatal profile for which there has been little to no judicial redress. She cites Natapoff (2004) in noting that one in four black males 20 29 years of age is locked up, on probation or parole, or being pressured to snitch. The research goes further to say that one in twelve in high crime areas are snitching under duress causing a social breakdown of communities nationwide. Let s not assume that the ... • 12. Comparing Democracy In Norway And The United States Of that less than 5% remaining full democracies, Norway has been ranked the best democracy in the world. On the other hand, the relegation of the United States from a full democracy to a flawed democracy can be traced back to American voters losing trust in political institutions and the increasing role of lobbying. With their automatic voter registration, collaborating political parties, and healthy relationship between lawmakers and citizens, Norway s democratic success is no surprise in comparison to the United States of America. The political structure of both nations also contributes to their major differences. Norway is a constitutional monarchy with the king as the head of state and a parliamentary democracy system composed of three branches: the executive, legislative, and judicial. The constitution grants executive powers to the king, but the cabinet, appointed by the prime minister, exercises these rights. The monarch appoints a prime minister to acts as the political leader and head of government. Sex Tourism is progressively spreading and it is now a worldwide subject matter that every country can relate to some way or the other. Sex tourism it has been around for decades and it has grown more widespread. This industry is very well understood by the tourist. It is not formally publicized; it is rather through informal exchanges, word of mouth and internet, that the farang gets to know who to see and where to go. In Thailand sex tourism is a main source of income for many rural families. These families are poor and the fact that the state of the economy of the country is bad it makes the situation worse. In this analytical essay, I will argue the cause and origin of prostitution as a result of the Current economic status in Thailand. Sex tourism, for the vast majority, conjures up an image of red light districts in places like Amsterdam and Patpong Bangkok. However, the historical backdrop of sex tourism dates back to the time of the industrial revolution era (1820s 1840s). During the Vietnam war, a large number of U.S soldiers were involved in the boom of the brothels industry and organized prostitutions. According to class lectures, the U.S government allowed the soldiers to go to Thailand for Rest and Recreation (R R). (holiday sex 6). • 14. The Phenomenon Of Violent Political Islamism 3. Discuss the phenomenon of violent political Islamism. What are its origins, aims and grievances? How ought we to deal with the phenomenon? Political Islam, or Islamism, is the instrumental use of Islam to pursue socio political objectives. Islam in this case is not merely a religious construct, but a political ideology. Individuals, groups, and organisations pursue political ideas and programs based on Islamic principles and concepts. They aim to implement Islamic law (Sharia) in both the public and private domain. Islamism is often mobilised in existing political issues, and has become a vehicle and vocabulary for the expression of many different agendas in the Muslim world . It is the most dominant ideology in the Muslim world. While not all political Islamism is violent, it is undeniable that violent extremism occurs in the Middle East, North Africa, and South Asia. In this essay, I analyse the phenomenon of violent political Islamism, focusing on the Middle East. I investigate its macro level historical and political origins, and the micro level factors which influence the use of violence. I discuss its aims and grievances, and provide suggestions on how to deal with this phenomenon. Macro level: historical, political, socioeconomic factors During the 1950s, the West embarked on a mission to overthrow the secular nationalist, communist, and left wing regimes in the Middle East, which they perceived to be a threat to Western corporate capital and a ... What led me to picking this book was that it seemed the most interesting out of all of the non fiction book selections. Since I already knew most of the reasons why animals went extinct, this book didn t have an impact me. But when I previously learned about animals extinction, I was impacted because it let me know what happened to dead species species. Examples of this could include learning about the dinosaurs when I was younger or learning about climate change and hunting when I was in middle school. But, this book has 13 chapters each explaining evidence of extinction, theories, or animals that had been extinct. Animals that were talked about included the Great Auks and Mammoths. Reasons for the extinctions were the obvious ones such as hunting and global warming. In a summary, Kolbert explains the extinctions of a variety of different major animal species that became extinct. She also explains that if trends in the environment continue that the biggest extinction in history will occur soon. If global warming, deforestation, and glaciers continue to melt she says that more and more species will continue to become extinct. She explains how humans need to be more conservative and careful with what they re doing to prevent extinction. Overall, I did not enjoy reading this book. Since I knew about most of the information being stated in the book, such as Darwin s theory and global climate change, it was kind of like listening to a lecture of something that you already know a lot about. Also, the fact that this book was straight facts and knowledge didn t lead me to liking it either. It was just throwing so much knowledge at you that it had you wondered what you had just read after reading just one page. Because of this, the book got confusing and especially boring. The Lie Society s Living The Lie Society s Living A man opening his front door with a briefcase in his hand, yells, Honey I m home! after a tiring day at work has been shown in many movies and TV shows in America, but is this an accurate representation of our society life today? Is it men who is still the head of the house or has society changed throughout the years? Is the struggle of women being seconded with making decisions a valid point? Stephen Marche s article Home Economic: The Link Between Work Life Balance and Income Equality presents the argument that the major struggle in domestic life isn t men versus women or mothers versus fathers; it s the family against money (1). Barack Obama comes from a diverse background, which he explores throughout the book. The Civil War was a war between the North and the South of the United States. During this war, there were around 620,000 men that were killed. This war ended after Confederate general Edmund Kirby Smith surrendered his troops. At this point the fighting had ceased, however, the tensions between the North and the South were still present. There were still disagreements on the rights of the now freed blacks. After the Civil War, there was a question on how the South would re enter the government of the Union and how the southern states were going to view the blacks. This time period after the Civil War where these questions were answered is known as The Reconstruction and lasted from 1863 1877. During this time period, President Lincoln was murdered and President Johnson was impeached. Congress also made major additions to the Constitution that they thought would bring equality to the South. Gargoyles Research Paper Gargoyles were defining elements of the Gothic period, constructed primarily by Elliot Viollet Le Duc in the 19th century as part of a restoration project of the Notre Dame Cathedral. Gargoyles served as a political commentary of the times, and a functional purpose of protecting the Cathedral. The most iconic gargoyle, the Pensive Demon, sits atop Notre Dame Cathedral s South tower. This statue is actually a chimera, not a gargoyle, since it isn t functional to the building and is purely decor. In the middle ages, gargoyles were the subject of pagan and demonic conversation , but for Viollet le Duc they represented salvation, protection, and the soul of the building. Gargoyles that sat near the great bells provided amplification of sound when they went off, an important function that told citizens when to awake or pray . Viollet le Duc was appalled at the actions of the rebels that recklessly tore down the old gargoyles and replaced them with lead pipes, which proved ineffective and caused significant water damage to the cathedral. Gargoyles served a very important purpose of steering water out of the cathedral along with being artistically sound. While researching, Viollet le Duc realized how useful it is to multiply gargoyles in masses so that the drainage system would be perfected. Limestone was a material that could be cut into long, thin shapes and would further accentuate decorative qualities of the gargoyles, along with helping to anchor the building and provide extra support . Viollet le Duc insisted on proving the gargoyles functionality to a point of absurdity. He created gargoyles that held pots to further steer water away. He also formulated canopies for the gargoyles, during a time where canopies were reserved for saints and holy purposes. Viollet le Duc either found his gargoyles to be sacred, or he was further making fun of religion and its symbolism and his distaste for it . • 22. Biblical Teachings And Essential For My Future Ministry After rereading through Stonehouse and The Child in the Bible I have chosen six biblical teachings/themes that I believe are important and essential for my future ministry. The six themes includes: Children are a gift from God, God sees children as blessings, children need to be taught how to develop a relationship with God, God commands us to protect the children, God cares about children enough to ensure that they receive discipline, and God asks adults to learn from them. The passage of Scripture that I would choose to describe and lead my future Children s Ministry is Proverbs 22:6. Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it . I chose this piece of Scripture to lead my ministry because it challenges the Children s Ministers, parents and congregation to equip the child so that they can all work together on their faith. In my ministry I want to make sure that at an early age children are intentionally encouraged to develop a personal relationship with Christ. This passage in Proverbs challenges the children s parents. The parents need to be equipped with skills to engage their children in conversations at home that encourage a relationship with God. In The Child in the Bible Patrick D. Miller talks about how parents need to be ready when their children ask questions. He uses Deuteronomy 6:20 25 to explain. ... The placement of the Red Figure Volute Krater (330 320 BCE) being next to other grave markers within the museum helps to exemplify this as well as the information label associated to it.
