Industrialising Less Developed Countries Essay examples
This essay intends to address the argument that Less Developed Countries (LDCs) cannot achieve
the level of development of the Developed Countries (DCs) unless they undergo a process of
industrialisation. In proposing a case in favour of this argument the industrialisation experiences of
the Latin American and Asian regions will be investigated, with specific regard to the role of state
intervention throughout this process. Conclusions will be drawn from these cases, specifically that
through the process of industrialisation LDCs can achieve the levels of development of the DCs
and this inference will be supported through the analysis of Human Development Index(HDI)
rankings and scores for 2010.
The focus of this essay will be on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus within the context of this developing international division of labour it was the Developed
Countries (DCs), the core states and first capitalists, who gained the development upper hand,
beginning their process of industrialisation during the mercantile period of European expansion.
The endeavour to embark on industrialisation for the LDCs however did not progress sufficiently
until after the end of the Second World War, a period in which dependency theorists argued the
case that the cause of underdevelopment within these LDCs was a consequence of the colonial
capitalist legacy of a distorted structure of economy and society, that is the peripheral economy and
society which was theorised to produce overall economic stagnation and mass poverty (Hoogvelt
1997, p. 38 40).
The two processes of industrialisation that this essay will address are Import Substitution
Industrialisation (IS) and Export Orientated Industrialisation (EOI). For advocates of ISI, the
industrialisation process will occur when given the existence of already industrialised and highly
productive economies (the North [DCs]), the

Cyber Malware Programs And The Internet
With the increase in usage of internet in recent time, cases of security breaches, threats and
malware etc. have also increased. One of the major issues in using internet is getting the system
infected with malware downloaded from internet. The malicious programs could be threat at
different levels i.e. from displaying a simple message to making a huge system useless. There are
various types of malwares such as virus, Trojan horses, worms, spyware and adware etc.
Sometimes, internet route is used to infect systems with these malicious programs by embedding
malwarewith useful programs, emailing malicious programs and various other ways to infect
system through internet.
However, increasing malicious programs also led to increase in anti malware programs to be
developed by various companies like AVG, Kaspersky, Norton and Microsoft securityessentials etc.
Apart from the anti malware programs that could stop malwares from infecting the system or clean
the system if already infected, there are some ways to stop malicious programs from being
downloaded from internet at the first place. For example, firewalls are often used to ensure that any
malicious program should not be downloaded from the internet.
Introduction
Now a days security is one of the major concerns for system administrators and internet users.
Appropriate level of high security is always required to protect confidential data, to lock a system
from unauthorized usage. Threat of internet security breach is

POL 3231 Constitutional Law
17 November 2014
Katz v. United States (1967) On the date of February 4th, 1965, believing that the Petitioner had
been using public pay phones to transmit illegal gambling wagers from Los Angeles to Miami and
Boston, the Federal Bureau of Investigation began their surveillance into the life of the Petitioner,
Charles Katz. Fifteen days later on February 19th, 1965 FBI agents working the case against the
Petitioner had gained access to a phone booth within a set of phone booths that the petitioner
frequented on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles, and summarily recorded the petitioner s side of
conversations he was having on the phone within a booth nearby. This surveillance lasted until the
25th (excluding February 22, as no evidence was obtained due to technical difficulties) the date of
the petitioner s arrest, which took place immediately after he exited the same set of phone booths.
In this case there are two major constitutional questions which need to be addressed: (1) whether
evidence obtained by attaching an electronic listening and recording device to the top of a public
telephone booth used and occupied by the Petitioner is gathered in violation of the Fourth
Amendment, and (2) whether the search warrant used by the FBI officers in this case violated the
Fourth Amendment to the constitution in that the warrant was (a) not founded on probable cause;
(b) an evidentiary search warrant and (c) a general search

Essay on Victorian Age
The Year 1837 was very significant. It was not only the year that
Queen Victoria acceded the throne, but also the year that a new literary age was coined. The
Victorian Age, more formally known, was a time of great prosperity in Great Britain s literature.
The Victorian Age produced a variety of changes. Political and social reform produced a variety
of reading among all classes. The lower class became more self conscious, the middle class more
powerful and the rich became more vulnerable. The novels of Charles Dickens, the poems of Alfred,
Lord Tennyson and Robert Browning, the dramatic plays of Oscar Wilde, the scientific discoveries
of the Darwins, and the religious revolt of Newman all helped to enhance learning and literacy in the

As the nineteenth century proceeded, these traditional customs were put into question by Erasmus
Darwin and his grandson, Charles Darwin. Erasmus Darwin found that the world was not created
in seven days in Zoomina, where he discovered that the evolutionary theory was unscientific.
Charles Darwin wrote Origin of the Spec ies, causing full scale controversy in Europe. Darwin
said that species survive and evolved by natural selection, or the survival of the fittest. The public
debate over the evolution marked for Victorians a radical change in intellectual and religious life.
The literature of the first four decades of the Victorian period could not help but reflect the social
and intellectual controversies of the era. Writers including Matthew Arnold and John Ruskin
attacked the problems directly, while Charles Dickens, George Eloit and
Alfred Lord Tennyson dramatized the conflicts and challenges in their works.
The most popular form for this type of dramatization was the novel.
Victorian novels represented almost every aspect of nineteenth century
Victorian life. Though poetry and prose were certainly distinguished, it was the novel that
ultimately proved to be the Victorians special literary achievement. The Victorian novel s most
notable aspect was its diversity. The Victorian period produced a number of novelists whose work
today would fit between

The Importance Of Selecting Criminal Defense Law
The need for a qualified legal guidance is an absolute must in case of criminal defense. Remember,
an aggressive and careful defense can eventually become the deciding factor between an acquittal
and conviction. Therefore, anticipate accordingly and hire a good criminal defense lawyer before it
gets too late.
Usually, a good lawyer or an efficient team of lawyers will start by thoroughly assessing the case
just to pick up traces of innate errors or instances of cardinal flaws within it. However, in a place
like Washington, the lawyers besides following a model similar to this go a step ahead to
investigate all possible factual claims and demands with utmost sincerity. They make it a point to
interrogate police officers and all possible witnesses in order to obtain a clear picture of the case
they are investigating. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, no matter what the crime is, you can do yourself a lot of favor by picking up the best
possible criminal defense lawyer in Washington.
Now, the task of selecting the best Washington lawyer in criminal defense is not an easy one by
any stretch of imagination. But you can make it somewhat easy for yourself by keeping in mind the

Choline Supplementation
During pregnancy, there are so many vitamins and minerals your doctor recommends you take that
it can make anyone feel overwhelmed. Luckily for people like me, they ve made these wonderful
things called pre natal vitamins that can make anyone s life easier by not having to track how much
of what you ve taken and when. Pre natal vitamins give you the vitamins and minerals one needs
during pregnancy in order to meet the mother s and the fetus needs and can have added nutrients
you may need because you may not consume enough of a certain nutrient in your diet. One of the
nutrients your pre natal vitamins can contain is choline.
Choline is a nutrient your body naturally produces. But ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One reasons is that children born with the benefits of choline intake during pregnancy also have
negative side effects. In Choline Baby, Prenatal Choline News and Discussions, Choline During
Pregnancy May Super Charge Children s Brains for Life, the writer refers to these children as
choline kids, and states that these choline kids have a higher thresholds for fear, meaning that it
takes a lot more for a choline kid to be afraid of a situation than a non choline kid. The writer
states that this is a positive thing, however because research is now showing that the less fear a
child has tends to put him or her at a higher risk for aggressive behavior, which the writer has
states he or she (sex of the writer is not revealed in the article) has witnessed in his or her children.
Additionally, this site refers to a study, which found that taking 800 milligrams a day during
pregnancy does nothing to improve a child s memory or language. However, the study provided the
pregnant mothers with a type of choline, not the actual choline supplement and only tested the
children at 10 and 12 months for language skills, general development, and long and short term
memory, so there were no additional test to test the theory or any long term follow ups to match the
results from the study on pregnant rats previously mentioned. It must be said, that Cholinebaby.com

Tally In Specials
In Specials, the main character Tally wants she old boyfriend, Zane, to join the Cutters, her
special group of Specials. The cutters are lead by Tally s friend, Shay. Zane is a Pretty, but he is
crippled. Due to the damage on his brain caused by the cure for the brain lesion put in every
Pretty s brain during the operation. Because Zane took only one of the pills and Tally took the
other, the pill caused Zane s brain to slowly be eaten away. The pill Tally took was supposed to
stop it once it finished getting rid of the lesion, however Tally took that pill not Zane. Tally wants

The girls then break into the city s armory to try an retrieve something to help him escape to the

Special. Specials are typically the trickiest citizens. The songs Quiet from Matilda the Musical,
Dancing Through Life from Wicked the Musical, and Revolting Children from Matilda the
Musical can represent all the personalities of Tally, Shay, and the Smokies. The main character
Tally is a girl who just wants to fit in, and although in order to fit in she must think like everyone
else. However, Tally struggles with calming down and following the crowd. Being a Special she is
supposed to listen to the boss and thinks she is better than everyone else. I think a perfect
representation of Tally s thoughts is the song Quiet from Matilda the Musical. Unlike the title,
Quiet starts very frantic, fast and frenzied. : ) In the musical Matilda, this is the song that shows

Why Did Napsster Use P2P Technology
The Napster web site made file swapping over the Internet available via the software necessary
for the Peer to Peer (P2P) file transfer to work. P2P is software that when downloaded onto
someone s computer, enables that person to access another person s computer to find and copy
certain files that the software is designed to recognize. It was used primarily for copying MP3files,
as a result avoiding the need to actually purchase music on CD or some other format.
The popularity of Napster happened quickly with 15 million registered users in less than one year,
according to company sources. Napster had the attention of the Record Industry Association of
America (RIAA), and their concerns of Copyright infringement. About a year after its launch, it
was sued by the RIAA, which represented major recording companies such as Universal Music,
BMG, Sony Music, and Warner Music Group. They claimed that by allowing users to swap free
music recordings, Napster s service violated Copyright laws. Eventually, the judge ruled against
Napster forcing them to shut down operations and liquidate its assets [3].
Napster used P2P technology and the use of a central database that held registered users
information. The database contained information on the files they were sharing, their log in details
and other information. The database made it easy for users to find and download a specific piece
of music.
It was the database that caused the courts to rule against Napster, not the

Crim Dell Research Paper
Cleaning the Crim Dell
The synthesized plastic polymer PHA is a natural organic polymer derived from bacteria. These
synthesized plastic polymers have a plethora of functions and benefits, but its most important
function is its use in improving water quality.
The College Committee on Sustainability has already invested funds in producing and
experimenting with these PHA fibrous mats to improve water quality. In a laboratory controlled
environment, the PHA fibrous mat successfully denitrifies the water at a quick rate. From an
incubation completed in the Keck Lab, the experimental fibrous mat of PHA is shown to be able to
drop the nitrate levels in water to about one fourth of the original concentration in less than 20
hours. Due to the success in a small scale lab experiment, there is a need for me to test the PHA
fibrous mat in a large scale environment to successfully assess its denitrifying effectiveness. I
propose that the most suitable large scale environment to test the PHA s denitrification would be at
the Crim Dell due to its low water quality levels and on going nonpoint source pollution from
college runoff. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Chambers is working to develop a proprietary blend of PHA and other chemicals that will be spun
into the fibrous mat for testing in Crim Dell this coming summer. Once the mat is created, it will be
placed at the groundwater inlet to the sedimentation basin, where nitrate rich water discharges into
Crim Dell. I will set up automated water samplers upstream and downstream of the PHA mat,
which will collect water continuously at pre set time intervals. These water samples will be
collected each week for analysis at the Keck Lab for nitrate, ammonium, and dissolved phosphate
using standard spectrophotometric methods. I expect to show that dissolved nitrogen and
phosphorus are removed from the water column prior to discharge into Crim Dell, thereby

Physical Appearance Of Mary Shelley s Frankenstein

Physical Appearance
In Frankenstein, Mary Shelley shows that appearance does not represent internal character by the
use of contrasting characters. Shelley uses the characters of the monster and Victor to show that
looks don t determine your personality. Physical appearance is related to internal character due to
the fact that people judge on looks before anything else. Social media, making people more
concerned with their looks, has influenced the importance of appearance. Different studies show
that people pick their friends and spouses based on appearance. Physical appearance is not an
indicator of character, but still the acceptance of someone who looks different lies in the eyes of
judgmental people.
In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein, physical appearance plays an immense role in the way characters
are treated. Many would believe that a beautiful exterior represents a beautiful soul, but that is
not the case. Victor creates a hideous monster that later becomes mistreated and judged solely on
his appearance. The monster is never given a chance by anyone besides Mr. De Lacey to show
his inner self. I am blind, and cannot judge of your countenance, but there is something in your
words which persuades me that you are sincere (Shelley 120). Since De Lacey is blind, he does not
have the power to judge the harmless monster on his appearance. He accepts the monster into his
home, not running in terror from his harsh exterior.

Cancerous Brain Tumors
Tumors are an area of swelling in a part of the both that does not always create inflammation. These
tumors are usually created by an irregular growth of the tissue. There are two individual kinds of
tumors, one called malignant, which is cancerous and the other benign, which is noncancerous.
There aren t any environmental factors that can usually cause either one of these tumors. Genetic
disease although, can cause certain tumors that can overpower the genes that stop the formation of
tumors. A genetic disease such as neurofibromatosis type 2 can be a prominent cause of a cancerous
brain tumor.
Malignant tumors are harmful to the body and need immediate action. They have an absence of a
border and metastasize by growing in different parts of the body once they have traveled throughout
the vascular system. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, even benign tumors have a risk of causing damage to the brain through either
compression or infiltration.
A tumor in the brain is dangerous if it starts to compress parts of the brain causing neurological
symptoms. This action can destroy the brain tissue it surrounds or it can block fluid in the brain
from flowing. Although it is not cancerous it can also compress parts of the spinal cord depending
where it is in the brain and can also stop the flow of blood in veins surrounding it.
Some symptoms of brain tumors can be someone experiencing a seizure for the first, usually
occurring in older patients. Because the all areas of the brain are what control the functions of the
body, certain areas where the brain tumor is located may cause gradual speech impairments, or
physical impairments such as difficulty walking. A lesser symptom of brain tumors would be
headaches that can be caused by compression of the tissue which can occur in any age of a patient

Abraham Lincoln s Failure
In most people s minds, the notion of failure is never a pleasant thought. However, think again, for
certain benefits reside within the crushing blow of defeat. If one experiences failure and finds a
way to get back up, they will emerge stronger than before.
Abraham Lincoln, the sixteenth president of the United States of America, experienced some
setbacks while he tried his hand at a variety of professions, which motivated him to work even
harder towards his legislative goals. At one point, he worked as a sales clerk at a shop which soon

The Choices Made Effect The Future
After graduating high school, life actually begins. The choices made effect the future, a big choice
to make is whether to go into the military. The military force closest to civilians is the National
Guard. National Guardsmen and women get benefits that normal civilians don t, but the opposite is
also true. Differences between time, money, and education should be taken into account when
deciding a future in the National Guard. Humans only have so long to live, time wasted is time that

not withheld by a contract to leave the state by the federal government. All of the factors point
that civilians are better equipped to save time. Civilians might be better in the department of
saving time but money is a different story. During training, National Guard forces are paid as if
they are in active duty (What will I get paid). Once the training is over, the money declines for
reserve members, but stays relatively constant for active members. The pay is around two hundred

thousand dollars for active members per drill, one weekend a month (What will I get paid). The
pay of the National Guard might not be exciting, but the military truly shines in the area of

It was that Jesus was attending the Feast of the Tabernacle which was one of the three annual
feasts that all the males of Israel were expected to attend. Jesus was hesitant about attending
because He knew the religious leaders were seeking to kill him. This was because earlier in the

A pressure announced on the weather forecast of 29.92 is an average measurement. It is measured
with a barometer and in the United States the units of measure are inches of mercury, or inHg. This
is what meteorologist are referring to in their forecasts. 29.92 inHg is a measurement within the

4. Explain why it is much more difficult to measure snowfall amount than rainfall amount.
Rain is measured by the amount of liquid contained in the measurement device. Whatever is
amount of liquid is in the device, is the measurement. However snow, has various factors that can
impact its measurement. First of all snowfall measurement is based on how much liquid there
would be if the snow was melted into liquid form. There are several factors that can impact how
much snow is measured in a device. Wind can move snow from high points to low points and
vice versa. The surface on which the snow is falling onto can also impact a measurement. The
length of time the snow has been on the ground and how compact it is can also effect
measurements. Measuring in several places and then using an average can give a more accurate
total. Meteorologists usually forecast snow amounts giving a range of totals due to these factors
which make it challenging to give an exact forecast.

Paul Meyer Communication
One of my favorite quote by the greatest success motivational planner, Paul J. Meyer is
communication the human connection is the key to personal and career success. As Meyer stated,
it is indeed crucial to have communication in order to gain success. Communication is an important
part of human life. No matter what we are doing, we are constantly communicating, conversing and
exchanging ideas. So far in my life I have overcome social anxiety, and communicating has been
the weapon I used to break my fear. So when it comes to communication, I take it very seriously
that I communicate effectively with people around me. I have two communication strategies I use
to communicate effectively with professors and friends/peers. These two strategies are, the first
being direct and to the point and the second is always having the reminder that the world doesn t
revolve around me. Strategies I would like to begin using such as encouraging feedback and plans
that help build my communicative toolbox. One of the most effective way I communicate with
faculty/staff is by being direct and to the point. In whole honesty, people don t need to know every
single detail when asking or stating something. When I communicate with staff/faculty, I think
about the single most important point I want to make or the central idea of my question. One of
my preferable way to state my main ideas is to meet face to face. I communicate better and dissolve

The Protection Of The Environment
Introduction
Information and public participation play an important role in the protection of the environment. To
that end they have become rights which are protected internationally, continentally and

management of the environmental at all levels. By enabling public participation, governments are
inevitably providing transparency in governance and therefore reinforcing the legislative and

Under Principle 10, public participation is a creature of three distinct requirements Firstly, there is a
recognition that participation does not occur in a vacuum; rather, it is facilitated by a healthy
understanding of the current state of the environment. The Rio Declaration recognized that at the
national level, each individual shall have appropriate access to information concerning the
environment that is held by public authorities, including information on hazardous materials and
activities in their communities .
As such, there is a responsibility on governments to make available information on the environment
and the current risks faced to the citizens. The Rio Declaration states that states shall facilitate and
encourage public awareness and participation by making information widely available . This
includes educating local communities as to the environmental risks they specifically face and their
sources. It also means providing an adequate mechanism for governmental bodies to provide this
information.
Secondly when the public is fully aware of the status of their environment, then citizens and interest
groups should be provided with the opportunity to participate in the decision making process .
Individuals and organizations should have a say in the drafting of legislation, regulation and
guidelines.

My Experience At The Big City Of Jacksonville
When I first moved to the big city of Jacksonville, I was cultured shocked. Being born and raised
in a small town where everyone knew everyone, elderly people made up the majority of the
population, and being a liberal could get a brawl going, the new diversity astounded me. Growing
up in my southern town, I was not forced to have specific ideals, but the culturecertainly affected
them. My town has made me who I am today and I question if being raised so conservative has

The Twentieth-Century Sparknotes
In chapter 1, the text was about the twentieth century world and the four themes play a role in this
world. The four themes show that history is not just facts after facts, but also all connected through
the themes. Global interrelatedness is the international connection between groups and the pattern
of this type of connection has evolved over the years; into globalization. Identity and difference;
formation of identity that is key to understanding the politics of the twentieth century and world
history in general, but also distinct ones make some an outcast of society. The rise of the mass

Multistory farming a local knowledge of farming that still maintains productivity; hard won

are supposed to bring people together and not make some that do not fit in an outcast, labeling
them different or uncivilized. Europe s rise to power depends on this type of distinction, as did
Hilter s program. Most civilization has these types of distinctions and regard outsiders as
barbarians , but the uncivilized barbarians were not always disadvantaged. So, why bother to
classify them as something negative? They might have a better way of being productive, but just
because they are not the same they are classified. This happens a lot in this century, but there is
some resistance to this distinction. Where resistance did occur, leaders made it part of a coherent
nationalist agenda or the place have to create a new national

Anzia Yezierska s novel Bread Givers and Assimilation of Jews
An entire chapter of Eric Liu s memoir, The Accidental Asian, is founded on the supposition that
Jews today serve as a metaphor for assimilation into American culture. According to Liu, this is due
to the ease with which Jews have been able to assimilate. However, the progress that Jews have
made in embracing and affecting America has been gradual rather than instantaneous, as evidenced
by the character Sara Smolensky in Anzia Yezierska s novel Bread Givers. Sara is not the symbol
of an assimilated Jew, but instead represents a period of transition between complete assimilation
into American identity and complete dissimilation from her Jewish and Polish heritage, ... Show

Sara s willing dedication to her American identity, as represented by her clothing, is contrasted with
the blood relationship she has with her mother, and by extension her actions separate her from her
entire ancestry and ethnicity. Denounced for her refusal to comply with the traditions of her
culture, and disdainfully called an Americanerin, Sara experiences the social death that Sollors
describes, a result of her cultural relationships having become mutually antagonistic (xx). In this
scene she temporarily ceases to be Jewish and becomes to her people and to her family merely a
female American. This schism is paralleled by a more subtle contrast at the conclusion of the same
chapter that should be noted, when Sara hears the poverty stricken cries that Charity saves you
from death (256)! This statement of course cannot be literally true, but displays a further contrast
between the voluntary and the natural on a more literal level: voluntary generosity versus natural
inevitable death.
Sara is further distanced from her ethnicity through her resistance to the patriarchal doctrines of
Judaism that are followed by her family. Sexually biased Judaism is represented by her father and
his frequent citations of the Torah to justify such a position. When Sara refuses to marry the
wealthy Max Goldstein, her father tells her that the Torah says What s a woman without a man?

Pros And Cons Of Reconstruction After The Civil War
For a short time after the Civil War, southern whites hoped for restoration of their rights and a return
to traditions and lifestyle before the conflict began. Radical Republicans imposed oppressive
policies and laws. Despite these difficulties, southern whites worked with other interests to improve
conditions going forward. Whites in the old Confederacy raised serious objections to what they
considered oppressive Reconstruction policies. However, they found ways to work within the
Reconstruction system to help restore antebellum traditions and culture. Part 1 There was
widespread opposition to Reconstruction policies among whites in the old Confederacy. They felt
forced to renounce their southern heritage and the values of the Confederacy to rejoin the Union.
They disliked the negative attitude of northern interests and their severe punishments of the South.
They objected to granting citizenship and suffrage rights to freed blacks who gained political power
and broke with southern traditions ( Sectional Conflict, Views Opposed on Reconstruction and the
War s Aftermath; Foner). Reconstruction efforts were complicated. After Lincoln s assassination,
President Andrew Johnson favored legislation placating the South and the former Confederacy and
returning property to prewar owners (History.com Staff, Carpetbaggers Scalawags ). Using his
pardoning powers, Johnson restored virtually all political rights to most Confederates. Southern
states balked when forced to repeal

Constitutional Democratic Republic Political Change
Next, a constitutional democratic republic facilitates political change and progress. This is a
predominant attribute surrounding a government, as without it, no wrong can be solved or ailment
corrected. The American Suffrage movement is an impeccable example of political change being a
necessity in order to grant women suffrage. Due to the availability and mercurial nature of a
constitutional democratic republic, even massive alterations such as granting suffrage to a group of
citizens is possible. Without this allowance for political change and social progress women would
most likely not be allowed to vote. Thus, the 19th amendment is a visible demonstration of this
allowance for political change even under extreme circumstances (Constitution).... Show more

This hinders the establishment of a one party states, such as demonstrated in China, North Korea,
Cuba, Laos, Vietnam, and Eritrea. One party states remove the ability of citizens to think for
themselves, independent from the ideas of the government. It also limits a citizen s ability to
project their opinion as there is only a singular party as an option. This party is the preference of
the government and often times has the government s sustainability as the paramount concern
(Gale). Yet, a multi party/dual party state allows for a broader scheme of citizens opinions and
preferences to be incorporated into the government. As well, the re election cycle every four
years, allows for the possibility of a new party to take the presidency, giving a refresh on mass

The Marketing Mix Of Starbucks
II)Marketing Mix
The marketing mix is the set of tactical marketing tools that the firm blends to produce the response
it wants in the target market. It consists of everything the firm can do to influence the demand for
its products (Kotler et al., 2013, p.53). Its main characteristics can be categorised into a 4Ps
framework.
a)Product
Starbucks was initially known as a premium coffee chain for high standard coffee lovers.
However, throughout the years and the fierce competition, Starbucks has expanded its product
portfolio to match new customer needs. They introduced the brands Tazo Tea and Fizzio
offering caffeine free handcrafted sodas (Mintel, 2014). They also launched innovative
beverages like the Frappuccino, and created an extensive food menu. In fact, a study has shown
that around 22% of hot drink purchasers were very interested in seeing baked goods on the
menu of coffee shops (Mintel, 2014). They also do their best to introduce seasonal offerings,
such as the gingerbread for Christmas (Erin, 2010). They now host 8 main categories of drinks
and 7 of food to attract a wider range of consumers (i.e. the non coffee lovers). Nevertheless,
beverages still account for 60% of sales in the store (Statista, 2015). Beyond serving drinks and
food, Starbucks enables its customers to purchase Starbucks coffee and cappuccino makers, to
extend the Starbucks experience at home, in a Starbucks mug. Each product is unique since the

The Benefits Of Bilingual Education
6.Conclusion
This chapter presents assertions on the findings to help draw conclusion on the benefits of
bilingual education in Jamaica, the advantages and disadvantages of using creole in the classroom
and whether or not use by teachers is positive or negative and finally some to the circumstances of
the use of JC.
In this chapter the focus is to attempt to answer the research question through a combination of the
information from the literature review with that from the findings gathered. The plan, to gather
qualitative information from secondary school teachers which would highlight their opinions and
attitudes on the use of creole in the Jamaican classroom, had achieved the purpose for which it
was intended. Teachers were able to identify areas where creole could be found to be a useful tool
in the classroom.
The initial research plan was to collect qualitative information/data from secondary school teachers
across the corporate area in Jamaica. Initially, it was assumed that the data required would be
enough to draw conclusions on the attitudes and opinions of Jamaican teachers on the use of creole
in the classroom. In consideration of this, preliminary research questions were drawn for which the
data would reveal answers to, in conjunction with the literature review that was previously
conducted.
The main aim of the research was to find out from the teachers point of view on bilingual education
and any benefits it had within the Jamaican s current education

the difference? The important thing is that both the author and then the date are included. While
the date is always in brackets, the author may be inside or outside the brackets, but should always

Welcome, welcome to all! As you all already know, it is now the time that we begin with the

gasped and a beautiful young female in a billowy, bronze colored dress emerged. Nimbly, she

distracted from her beauty. I couldn t place it. Everyone remained silent until she made her final
step onto the ballroom floor. She looked around the room, in greetings to her guests and her lips
stretched wide, flashing a white teeth smile. Just then, in a wave like motion, the lights burned
brightly again, the music continued, and chatter and dancing became omnipresent. I returned
my gaze to Gemma. Her eyes darted anxiously about as she stood alongside the other maidens. I
had to move quickly. I held up my hand to capture her attention, but instantly I felt a tingling. My
hand was beginning to disappear, evaporating in a swirling swarm of particles. Before I could
start to comprehend what was happening, my whole body started to whirl around in a rapid
spin. In a blink of an eye, I found myself still in the ballroom, only now, I was near the stairs on
the opposite end. Dazed and disoriented, I reached my hand to my head and was startled to see
my arms covered with sleeves. I reached down touching my torso. My clothes had altered. My T

Roles And Mission Of The Counselor
Roles and Mission The counselor may play various roles, at several levels, i.e. the counselor may be
an educator to the client, the counselor may be a type of mentor offering advice and guidance on
specific issues, and also engage in other roles. The counselor may also act as an advocate for a
client whose cultural background is significantly different than the environment he or she may
currently be in, by ensuring that the client is treated with the same respect and given the same
opportunities as others. The client s social and cultural context is significant because it reveals to
the counselor who the client is, where the client is from, the traditions and values of the client,
among many other things. With this knowledge of the client, the counselor is able to obtain
specialized interventions which will assist them with the issues they are encountering therefore
their situations and themselves can improve. An advocate is an individual who acts as intermediary
to foster change to unlimited access, enhance awareness to inequalities, and promote accountability
on the individual, communal, and statewide level. Within the counseling field, most counselors,
although they may not be aware, act as social justice advocates on the behalf of their clients when

Definition Of A Concerto

who made it popular. I will also discuss the most creative composer of the solo concerto who was
Antonio Vivaldi. Thirdly I will focus on the main traits Vivaldi developed in a concerto with
reference to one of his most enchanting works The Four Seasons.
Concerto
A concerto is a musical composition for a solo instrument or instruments accompanied by an
orchestra .The soloist will have the opportunity to show their potential during the cadenza part in a
concerto. A cadenza is an embellished solo section, usually placed at the end of the first movement
of a concerto. Concerto defines as a word both meaning competing and accommodating . Contrast,

The structural thinking behind the Four Seasons was that each movement twelve in all (three
per season) would evoke a certain mood. Vivaldi delivered elegance and originality in his work.
His music mirrors graphically the action described; this literary link is called program
music.Vilvaldis four season concertos were based on an Italian sonnet, likely written by Vivaldi
where he depicts and illustrates the narratives through his compositions. For example, in Vivaldi s
second concerto summer he depicts a peaceful, calm mood at the beginning of the first movement.
The atmosphere is extraordinarily vivid, depicting the oppressive heat from the Mediterranean sun.
The plaintive signs of the violin, separated by silences which suggest the intake of breath is a
tiring exertion, it gives no hint to the explosive energy that lies ahead. (See example two). In the
concerto Winter he evokes a thunder storm, with the use of piercing high notes in the violin at a

Character Analysis Of James Watson In The Novel The Double...
James Watson James Watson is both the narrator and author of the novel The Double Helix. The
reader begins to understand this character by the actions and ways this character is treated. He is
at the time 19 years old and graduated from the University of Chicago. James Watson is a character
the reader can relate to with events such as James not just focusing on science, but enjoying parties
and meeting the girls at Cambridge University. He is portrayed as a very determined scientist as he
throughout the novel. He shows this when he studies RNA, bacterial sextuality and most
importantly DNA. He dreamed of achieving scientific glory through genetics and microbiology.
Watson uses most of his time working and struggling with Francis Crickto create a DNA model.
Him and Crick work well together even through some road blocks and bumps. Along the way
Watson also works with Maurice Wilkins and Rosalind Franklin. Rosalind Franklin provides

Problems Faced With Airport Security
When tragedy struck the nation on September 11th, the minor problem of airport security breeches
suddenly became one of the biggest concerns facing our nation. Ever since the late 1980s there had
been many promises and plans to shape up airport security, but according to experts there has been
little, if any, real improvement in public safety since that time (Morris 28). Its obvious to assume
that because of the lack of improvement, great tragedy struck our nation on September 11th. Since
September 11th there has been great attempts in fixing the problems that we face with airport
security, but yet there are still breaches in airport security, we are still not safe. There are several
factors behind the problems with airport security; they range from inadequate machinery used, to
poorly trained screeners. A proposal needs to be raised, one that would seal up the remaining gaps
that we still face regarding the issue of airport security.
Due to all the complicated factors that we have to deal with in regards to airport security, a
proposal will be raised. With the proper precautions, the events of September 11th could have been
prevented. The question raised is, what are the problems with airport security? The issue rather
complex involves three main areas; they include policy, technology, and personnel. The main
problem is the personnel, and it starts with the screeners. A screener is someone who stands watch

Comparing If We Must Die And The Lynching
During a time of rebirth for the African Americans in Harlem, writer Claude McKay embraced a
militant mindset that quickly became the basis for the Harlem Renaissance. Despite being born in
Jamaica, he came to the United States in 1912 and soon after published works that spread
throughout the Unites States and brought him fame. Frustrated by the racism present in the South,
McKay would denounce racism though his writing. His poem, If We Must Die, was published
during the Red Summer in 1919 and directly embodies his ardent and zealous spirit. The period of
racial violence called for such action, yet in his following poem, The Lynching, published less than

He aims to prove his worth and educated status using a form that would compare him to authors
like Shakespeare. By proving himself to a larger, white audience, his message is more easily
appreciated and understood. But through both, there is still mystery as to why there is a drastic
difference in tone. On one hand, it could be due to the time difference. His reaction to the Red
Summer in If We Must Die comes from a place of deep emotion. His mentality to challenge the
racial situation spread through the whole community, prompting numerous others to speak out
collectively with him. McKay inspired a class to emerge with radical ideals not previously
prominent. On the other hand, the emotion that is shown in his writing could express his change
of opinion from outcry and anger to hopeless and depressed. Between 1919 and 1920, McKay
was exposed to the reality of the racial situation that opposed his beliefs and core mission. When
his vision did not come to fruition, he realized the problem was deeply engrained and not easily
solved. Using this knowledge, his later work, The Lynching calls for self motivation and
recognition of the problem to face adversity. In both outlets, McKay proves successful in
expressing his hope for resilience and prosperity for the African Americancommunity. Claude
McKay was able to channel his acrimony towards lynching into his poetry to incite a generation of

had one day to prepare their trial. Lord Kitchener, who ordered the trial, did so in order to show
that he is willing to judge his own soldiers harshly if they disobey the rules of war. Ultimately, he
does this in the hopes that it will bring the Boer War to an end with a peace conference (Breaker
Morant). Kitchener is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Colonel Denny, supports this. However, there are immense complexities when it comes to
charging active duty soldiers with murder during battle. In the end, the defendants are found
guilty of executing the prisoners and are sentenced to death, but Witton s sentence was reduced
to life in penal servitude (Breaker Morant). This case often raises a debate about whether or not
the men should have been charged with murder during war time, when orders were not clearly
defined. Based on Kant s Categorical Imperative ethical model, if I was acting as the fifth judge
in this case, I would find the men guilty. This is because a person who utilizes the Kantian view
believes that the only pure good is pure human reason without consequences. This pure human
reason works without the influence of human emotions and desires. A truly good act, as defined
by Kant, is performed because of an obligation to the categorical imperative. Therefore, the
objectives and personal agendas of the individual performing the act must be kept separate. For
this reason alone, Morant could have been found guilty. He could have ignored the verbal orders to
kill prisoners, or

Latest Alzheimer s Disease
Alzheimer s disease (AD) is a form of dementia that causes problems with memory, thinking, and
behavior. AD typically involves the development of a progressive neuropsychiatric disorder that
is characterized by gradual memory impairment, loss of acquired skills and emotional
disturbances (Lee, Y. J., Han, S. B., Nam, S. Y., Oh, K. W., Hong, J. T.). Every 67 seconds an
individual in the United States develops AD. AD is the sixth leading cause of death in the United
States. There are 5.3 million Americans diagnosed with AD (Latest Alzheimer s Facts and Figures).
AD is one of the few degenerative diseases that cannot be prevented, stopped, or cured (Latest
Alzheimer s Facts and Figures). Post mortem examination of the brain of AD patients usually...

2010). The neuroinflammation is an early, non specific immune reaction to tissue damage or
pathogen invasion (Lee et al. 2010). Inflammation of the central nervous system (CNS) is
characterized by increased glial activation, pro inflammatory cytokine concentration, blood brain
barrier permeability, and leukocyte invasion (Lee et al. 2010). Microglia are cells that support and
protect neuronal functions (Lee at al. 2010). They act as the first and main form of active immune
defense that orchestrate the endogenous immune response of the Central Nervous System. The
microglia play a central role in the cellular response to pathological lesions such as AОІ. AОІ can
attract and activate microglia, leading to clustering of microglia around AОІ deposits sites in the
brain (Lee et al. 2010). Even though microglia have neuroprotective functions, neurotoxic
mechanisms which involves continuous activation of microglia and toxic factors are released by
microglia, which may lead to neuroinflammation (Lee et al. 2010). Astrocytes (star shaped glial
cells) are the most abundant cells in the brain and are located in the brain and spinal. Astrocytes
have various functions such as: biochemical support of endothelial cells of the BBB, supplying
nutrients to the nervous tissue, maintenance of extracellular ion balance, and healing the brain and
spinal cord following traumatic injury (Lee et al., 2010). Chemokines are released by astrocytes
which attract microglia and they further express proinflammatory products, thus increasing
neuronal damage in the pathogenesis of AD (Lee et al., 2010). Astrocytes play a critical role in
AГџ clearance and degradation, and they also provide trophic support to neurons forming a
protective barrier between AГџ deposits and neurons (Wyss Coray et al., 2003). Neurons contribute

A Good Guy With A Gun
Wayne LaPierre, an American author and gun rights advocate, once said, The only thing that
stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun, which is an expression that has no
implication with civilians stopping a criminal during a crime scene and is a statement that
continues to lead everyone getting hurt in the end. No mass shooting in the past thirty years has
been stopped by an armed civilian. A good guy with a gun has never contributed to stopping a
felon during a crime scene, so why would people believe that someone with a gun would try to
stop someone else with a gun? During a crime scene with an offender threatening people with a
gun, a civilian trying to use their gun just makes the situation worse and causes more chaos. A
good guy with a gun will not be extremely helpful or effective against a bad guy with a gun, just
more pandemonium. Also, when a firearmdealer is selling a gun to a stranger, he does not know
whether or not that stranger is a good guy or a bad guy, so what if he was a bad guy? What if that
same night, the man he just sold a gun to was going to use that same gun to kill an innocent family
in their own home?
Right now, there is no effective way for people to know who the bad guy is and who the good
guy is, so people just end up selling guns to nearly everyone who can pay for one. Today in United
States history, gun control laws are very weak and ineffective in controlling the great harms and
dangers than can be caused by guns. Guns lead to

The Trade Dispute And The European Union Industry
This trade dispute initially began on July 25th, 2012 when EU Pro Sun, a joint initiative of
members of the EU solar industry, filled a complaint to the European Commission that solar panels
and various components where being sold in the European marketplace at a value lower than
market value. It was the biggest anti dumping complaint to the European Unionin history with the
total value of currently imported solar panels was around 2 billion euros. The European Commission
is mandated to investigate cases that are proven to be a valid complaint from the Union Industry.
This case met the three requirements which are: Possible price dumping by the exporting producers
on the EU market, injury suffered by the Union industry, and a possible... Show more content on

Early in 2012, Europe s economy was shrinking and the euro zone s economy had shrunk by .3
percent in 2011 s fourth quarter. Greece, Portugal, Ireland, Spain, and Cyprus all had defaulted
on their debts and were unable to refinance them. The European Union had to consider what
would provide the greatest benefit to all members of the Union, and how implementing anti
dumping and anti subsidy laws would make it even more expensive for solar panels in the
European Union. Secondly, China currently accounted for around 65% of the world production
of solar panels. Due to this it gave them competitive advantage and the benefit of economies of
scale. Due to the ability to sell Chinese solar panels at a lower cost in the European Union it
caused around 40 EU producers to declare insolvency, 6 EU producers to stop production (some
partially), and 2 EU producers to quit solar business between 2009 and 2012 (Memo/13/497). If
something was not to quickly be done about the dumping of Chinese solar panels thousands of
jobs would be lost within the European Union and EU producers of solar panels market share
would drastically drop, considering it was already at a minimal 19% Union market share. Thirdly,
the European Union had to consider overall relations with the Chinese regarding trade in general.
An aggressive retaliation by the European Commission in regards to the dumping could burn trade

  • 2. Industrialising Less Developed Countries Essay examples This essay intends to address the argument that Less Developed Countries (LDCs) cannot achieve the level of development of the Developed Countries (DCs) unless they undergo a process of industrialisation. In proposing a case in favour of this argument the industrialisation experiences of the Latin American and Asian regions will be investigated, with specific regard to the role of state intervention throughout this process. Conclusions will be drawn from these cases, specifically that through the process of industrialisation LDCs can achieve the levels of development of the DCs and this inference will be supported through the analysis of Human Development Index(HDI) rankings and scores for 2010. Thus within the context of this developing international division of labour it was the Developed Countries (DCs), the core states and first capitalists, who gained the development upper hand, beginning their process of industrialisation during the mercantile period of European expansion. The endeavour to embark on industrialisation for the LDCs however did not progress sufficiently until after the end of the Second World War, a period in which dependency theorists argued the case that the cause of underdevelopment within these LDCs was a consequence of the colonial capitalist legacy of a distorted structure of economy and society, that is the peripheral economy and society which was theorised to produce overall economic stagnation and mass poverty (Hoogvelt 1997, p. 38 40). The two processes of industrialisation that this essay will address are Import Substitution Industrialisation (IS) and Export Orientated Industrialisation (EOI). For advocates of ISI, the industrialisation process will occur when given the existence of already industrialised and highly productive economies (the North [DCs]), the ... United States (1967) On the date of February 4th, 1965, believing that the Petitioner had been using public pay phones to transmit illegal gambling wagers from Los Angeles to Miami and Boston, the Federal Bureau of Investigation began their surveillance into the life of the Petitioner, Charles Katz. Fifteen days later on February 19th, 1965 FBI agents working the case against the Petitioner had gained access to a phone booth within a set of phone booths that the petitioner frequented on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles, and summarily recorded the petitioner s side of conversations he was having on the phone within a booth nearby. This surveillance lasted until the 25th (excluding February 22, as no evidence was obtained due to technical difficulties) the date of the petitioner s arrest, which took place immediately after he exited the same set of phone booths. In this case there are two major constitutional questions which need to be addressed: (1) whether evidence obtained by attaching an electronic listening and recording device to the top of a public telephone booth used and occupied by the Petitioner is gathered in violation of the Fourth Amendment, and (2) whether the search warrant used by the FBI officers in this case violated the Fourth Amendment to the constitution in that the warrant was (a) not founded on probable cause; (b) an evidentiary search warrant and (c) a general search ... Erasmus Darwin found that the world was not created in seven days in Zoomina, where he discovered that the evolutionary theory was unscientific. The public debate over the evolution marked for Victorians a radical change in intellectual and religious life. The literature of the first four decades of the Victorian period could not help but reflect the social and intellectual controversies of the era. Writers including Matthew Arnold and John Ruskin attacked the problems directly, while Charles Dickens, George Eloit and Alfred Lord Tennyson dramatized the conflicts and challenges in their works. The most popular form for this type of dramatization was the novel. Victorian novels represented almost every aspect of nineteenth century Victorian life. P2P is software that when downloaded onto someone s computer, enables that person to access another person s computer to find and copy certain files that the software is designed to recognize. It was used primarily for copying MP3files, as a result avoiding the need to actually purchase music on CD or some other format. The popularity of Napster happened quickly with 15 million registered users in less than one year, according to company sources. Napster had the attention of the Record Industry Association of America (RIAA), and their concerns of Copyright infringement. About a year after its launch, it was sued by the RIAA, which represented major recording companies such as Universal Music, BMG, Sony Music, and Warner Music Group. They claimed that by allowing users to swap free music recordings, Napster s service violated Copyright laws. Eventually, the judge ruled against Napster forcing them to shut down operations and liquidate its assets [3]. Napster used P2P technology and the use of a central database that held registered users information. The database contained information on the files they were sharing, their log in details and other information. The database made it easy for users to find and download a specific piece of music. These synthesized plastic polymers have a plethora of functions and benefits, but its most important function is its use in improving water quality. The College Committee on Sustainability has already invested funds in producing and experimenting with these PHA fibrous mats to improve water quality. In a laboratory controlled environment, the PHA fibrous mat successfully denitrifies the water at a quick rate. From an incubation completed in the Keck Lab, the experimental fibrous mat of PHA is shown to be able to drop the nitrate levels in water to about one fourth of the original concentration in less than 20 hours. Due to the success in a small scale lab experiment, there is a need for me to test the PHA fibrous mat in a large scale environment to successfully assess its denitrifying effectiveness. • 11. Physical Appearance Of Mary Shelley s Frankenstein Kayla Caputo Ms. Schindler English IV 23 March 2015 Physical Appearance In Frankenstein, Mary Shelley shows that appearance does not represent internal character by the use of contrasting characters. Shelley uses the characters of the monster and Victor to show that looks don t determine your personality. Physical appearance is related to internal character due to the fact that people judge on looks before anything else. Social media, making people more concerned with their looks, has influenced the importance of appearance. Different studies show that people pick their friends and spouses based on appearance. Physical appearance is not an indicator of character, but still the acceptance of someone who looks different lies in the eyes of judgmental people. In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein, physical appearance plays an immense role in the way characters are treated. Many would believe that a beautiful exterior represents a beautiful soul, but that is not the case. Victor creates a hideous monster that later becomes mistreated and judged solely on his appearance. The monster is never given a chance by anyone besides Mr. De Lacey to show his inner self. I am blind, and cannot judge of your countenance, but there is something in your words which persuades me that you are sincere (Shelley 120). Since De Lacey is blind, he does not have the power to judge the harmless monster on his appearance. He accepts the monster into his home, not running in terror from his harsh exterior. ... Explain why it is much more difficult to measure snowfall amount than rainfall amount. Rain is measured by the amount of liquid contained in the measurement device. Whatever is amount of liquid is in the device, is the measurement. However snow, has various factors that can impact its measurement. Wind can move snow from high points to low points and vice versa. The surface on which the snow is falling onto can also impact a measurement. The length of time the snow has been on the ground and how compact it is can also effect measurements. Measuring in several places and then using an average can give a more accurate total. Most civilization has these types of distinctions and regard outsiders as barbarians , but the uncivilized barbarians were not always disadvantaged. So, why bother to classify them as something negative? They might have a better way of being productive, but just because they are not the same they are classified. This happens a lot in this century, but there is some resistance to this distinction. Where resistance did occur, leaders made it part of a coherent nationalist agenda or the place have to create a new national ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Anzia Yezierska s novel Bread Givers and Assimilation of Jews An entire chapter of Eric Liu s memoir, The Accidental Asian, is founded on the supposition that Jews today serve as a metaphor for assimilation into American culture. According to Liu, this is due to the ease with which Jews have been able to assimilate. However, the progress that Jews have made in embracing and affecting America has been gradual rather than instantaneous, as evidenced by the character Sara Smolensky in Anzia Yezierska s novel Bread Givers. Sara is not the symbol of an assimilated Jew, but instead represents a period of transition between complete assimilation into American identity and complete dissimilation from her Jewish and Polish heritage, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sara s willing dedication to her American identity, as represented by her clothing, is contrasted with the blood relationship she has with her mother, and by extension her actions separate her from her entire ancestry and ethnicity. Denounced for her refusal to comply with the traditions of her culture, and disdainfully called an Americanerin, Sara experiences the social death that Sollors describes, a result of her cultural relationships having become mutually antagonistic (xx). In this scene she temporarily ceases to be Jewish and becomes to her people and to her family merely a female American. This schism is paralleled by a more subtle contrast at the conclusion of the same chapter that should be noted, when Sara hears the poverty stricken cries that Charity saves you from death (256)! This statement of course cannot be literally true, but displays a further contrast between the voluntary and the natural on a more literal level: voluntary generosity versus natural inevitable death. Sara is further distanced from her ethnicity through her resistance to the patriarchal doctrines of Judaism that are followed by her family. Sexually biased Judaism is represented by her father and his frequent citations of the Torah to justify such a position. When Sara refuses to marry the wealthy Max Goldstein, her father tells her that the Torah says What s a woman without a man? Less than nothing a blotted out existence. No life on earth and no ... Pros And Cons Of Reconstruction After The Civil War For a short time after the Civil War, southern whites hoped for restoration of their rights and a return to traditions and lifestyle before the conflict began. Radical Republicans imposed oppressive policies and laws. Despite these difficulties, southern whites worked with other interests to improve conditions going forward. Whites in the old Confederacy raised serious objections to what they considered oppressive Reconstruction policies. However, they found ways to work within the Reconstruction system to help restore antebellum traditions and culture. Part 1 There was widespread opposition to Reconstruction policies among whites in the old Confederacy. They felt forced to renounce their southern heritage and the values of the Confederacy to rejoin the Union. They disliked the negative attitude of northern interests and their severe punishments of the South. They objected to granting citizenship and suffrage rights to freed blacks who gained political power and broke with southern traditions ( Sectional Conflict, Views Opposed on Reconstruction and the War s Aftermath; Foner). Reconstruction efforts were complicated. After Lincoln s assassination, President Andrew Johnson favored legislation placating the South and the former Confederacy and returning property to prewar owners (History.com Staff, Carpetbaggers Scalawags ). This is a predominant attribute surrounding a government, as without it, no wrong can be solved or ailment corrected. The American Suffrage movement is an impeccable example of political change being a necessity in order to grant women suffrage. Due to the availability and mercurial nature of a constitutional democratic republic, even massive alterations such as granting suffrage to a group of citizens is possible. Inflammation of the central nervous system (CNS) is characterized by increased glial activation, pro inflammatory cytokine concentration, blood brain barrier permeability, and leukocyte invasion (Lee et al. 2010). Microglia are cells that support and protect neuronal functions (Lee at al. 2010). They act as the first and main form of active immune defense that orchestrate the endogenous immune response of the Central Nervous System. The microglia play a central role in the cellular response to pathological lesions such as AОІ. AОІ can attract and activate microglia, leading to clustering of microglia around AОІ deposits sites in the brain (Lee et al. 2010). Even though microglia have neuroprotective functions, neurotoxic mechanisms which involves continuous activation of microglia and toxic factors are released by microglia, which may lead to neuroinflammation (Lee et al. 2010). Astrocytes (star shaped glial cells) are the most abundant cells in the brain and are located in the brain and spinal. Astrocytes have various functions such as: biochemical support of endothelial cells of the BBB, supplying nutrients to the nervous tissue, maintenance of extracellular ion balance, and healing the brain and spinal cord following traumatic injury (Lee et al., 2010). Chemokines are released by astrocytes which attract microglia and they further express proinflammatory products, thus increasing neuronal damage in the pathogenesis of AD (Lee et al., 2010). Astrocytes play a critical role in AГџ clearance and degradation, and they also provide trophic support to neurons forming a protective barrier between AГџ deposits and neurons (Wyss Coray et al., 2003). • 45. A Good Guy With A Gun Wayne LaPierre, an American author and gun rights advocate, once said, The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun, which is an expression that has no implication with civilians stopping a criminal during a crime scene and is a statement that continues to lead everyone getting hurt in the end. No mass shooting in the past thirty years has been stopped by an armed civilian. A good guy with a gun has never contributed to stopping a felon during a crime scene, so why would people believe that someone with a gun would try to stop someone else with a gun? During a crime scene with an offender threatening people with a gun, a civilian trying to use their gun just makes the situation worse and causes more chaos. A good guy with a gun will not be extremely helpful or effective against a bad guy with a gun, just more pandemonium. Also, when a firearmdealer is selling a gun to a stranger, he does not know whether or not that stranger is a good guy or a bad guy, so what if he was a bad guy? What if that same night, the man he just sold a gun to was going to use that same gun to kill an innocent family in their own home? Right now, there is no effective way for people to know who the bad guy is and who the good guy is, so people just end up selling guns to nearly everyone who can pay for one. Today in United States history, gun control laws are very weak and ineffective in controlling the great harms and dangers than can be caused by guns. Guns lead to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. The Trade Dispute And The European Union Industry This trade dispute initially began on July 25th, 2012 when EU Pro Sun, a joint initiative of members of the EU solar industry, filled a complaint to the European Commission that solar panels and various components where being sold in the European marketplace at a value lower than market value. It was the biggest anti dumping complaint to the European Unionin history with the total value of currently imported solar panels was around 2 billion euros. The European Commission is mandated to investigate cases that are proven to be a valid complaint from the Union Industry. This case met the three requirements which are: Possible price dumping by the exporting producers on the EU market, injury suffered by the Union industry, and a possible... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Early in 2012, Europe s economy was shrinking and the euro zone s economy had shrunk by .3 percent in 2011 s fourth quarter. Greece, Portugal, Ireland, Spain, and Cyprus all had defaulted on their debts and were unable to refinance them. The European Union had to consider what would provide the greatest benefit to all members of the Union, and how implementing anti dumping and anti subsidy laws would make it even more expensive for solar panels in the European Union. Secondly, China currently accounted for around 65% of the world production of solar panels. Due to this it gave them competitive advantage and the benefit of economies of scale. Due to the ability to sell Chinese solar panels at a lower cost in the European Union it caused around 40 EU producers to declare insolvency, 6 EU producers to stop production (some partially), and 2 EU producers to quit solar business between 2009 and 2012 (Memo/13/497). If something was not to quickly be done about the dumping of Chinese solar panels thousands of jobs would be lost within the European Union and EU producers of solar panels market share would drastically drop, considering it was already at a minimal 19% Union market share. Thirdly, the European Union had to consider overall relations with the Chinese regarding trade in general. An aggressive retaliation by the European Commission in regards to the dumping could burn trade ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
