Examine and assess the idea that the authority of the state to govern is always contested
This essay will explore the assertion above by considering democratic governing, troubles in Northern
Ireland, and international relations including the UN. It will conclude that the state s authority is
always and necessarily contested, and its reaction to such challenges is partially related its system of
government. Modern day politics commonly follows a democratic system, and this in itself can lead to
further contestation of the state. The state refers to the politicians that comprise the leadership, along
with the machinery of government that allow laws and policies to be enforced. These include those
agencies with coercive powers, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It may be considered whether the election process can be considered to be contesting the state ? It is,
after all, a legitimate process which is endorsed by the state itself. In recent UK elections 35% of
citizens did not vote (BBC, accessed June 2010), suggesting a significant minority of citizens do not
feel it is necessary to participate in this type of political contestation.
The recent introduction of the citizen initiative within UK politics, which is already common in the
US ( Citizens of the state, 2009, track 1) shows how democracy further encourages contestation. If
enough citizen support can be gathered for an issue (through petitioning) then a referendum will be
held. This is illustrative of democracies handing power over to the people, which can result in debate
over governmental policies and decisions. A democratic system features oppositional parties who have
frequent opportunities to contest policies or actions that the elected party wish to implement. The
recent televised election debates in Britain are an example of this, where not only were citizens given
an opportunity to question political agendas and policies, but all political parties had an opportunity to
contest each other.
In the UK Parliament the governing party s authority is frequently challenged by opposing parties.
Often within a political party there will be challenges to the authority of the leadership votes of no

Berlin Wall Changes
Last year marked the 25 year anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. Life in Germany was very
different before then. This event caused many changes in Germany, including the way people thought
and acted. People have gone from no phones, to phones, and fancy daily dress, to casual. Since the fall
of the Berlin Wall, the big changes in culture in Germany are marriage traditions, clothing trends, and
religion. Marriage and dating traditions have had many changes since the fall of the Berlin Wall.

Human Embryonic Stem Cell Research
In the Declaration on the Production and the Scientific and Therapeutic Use of Human Embryonic
Stem Cells, the Pontifical Academy for Life presents the field of stem cell research with a statement
regarding the official Roman Catholic position on the moral aspects of acquiring and using human
embryonic stem cells. They have declared that it is not morally legitimate to produce or use human
embryos as a source of stem cells, nor is it acceptable to use stem cells from cell lines already
established. Thus, bringing up the conflicting topic concerned with the point in time in which a human
embryo becomes more than a simple mass of cells, but a human individual with a well defined
identity. Gerard Magil and William B. Neaves, in their paper Ontological and Ethical Implications of
Direct Nuclear Reprogramming has conflicted the Academy s position on stem cell research with an
alternative understanding of adult stem cells. In what follows, I will argue that the Academy does not
adequately defend the Church s standpoint on stem cell research. However, I will also suggest that
even if the Church s position were accepted, this would not provide an adequate solution to the ethical
question revolving around stem cell research.
In order to rightly investigate the position defined in the Declaration on the Production and the
Scientific and Therapeutic Use of Human Embryonic Stem Cells a summary must first be presented.
The Academy outlines and endorses the Roman Catholic Church s

The Impacts Of Vastuvidya On The Living Environment
Impacts of Vastuvidya on preservation of living environments
Vaastu is the science of direction that combines all the five elements of nature and balances them with
man and materials. Earth, water, fire, air and space are the five main elements of human living. Vastu
principles are based on the analysis of these five sources of energy and their correct utilization.
Vastuvidya is one of the teachings from the ancient Indian civilization. It is a discipline that developed
over the years based on the traditional knowledge gained from studying the nature. They also had
knowledge about the gravitational field, magnetic field, the position of the earth, velocity of the winds,

Some architects argue that vastu vidya is about flexible design guidelines for space, sunlight, flow and
function. While others say it is mere superstition.
However in Sri Lanka, influence of customs and traditions is an essential part of the social life,
business, politics, and any other important activity, irrespective of social standing, education or wealth
and thus despite the impacts and influences of foreign activities, both rural and urban populations
remain tied up with traditions.
There are eight directions in Vastuvidya. These directions are the most important factor in Vastuvidya.
When building a house we have to consider about various part of our house and the direction it is
situated. The importance of orientation of a building is not only for saving energy but also to have a
better healthy house design, which not only gives comfortable living but also gives good health,
prosperity and wealth to the house owners, occupiers and these families.

the other is Bhumi Chakra. In Pada Bedeema, the site is divided by nine parallel lines and another nine

Description Of A Man s Voice
We sat on a cheap wooden bench in the security room in the back of Lord and Taylor, our bags lay on
their sides, the contents spilled across the concrete floor. Little white tags hung from the fabric, a few
seams were noticeably ripped along the side ribbing of the clothing. Computer screens encompassed
the room, the surveillance footage rotated intermittently from Camera 1 to Camera 2 to Dressing
Room Camera. The man s voice was barely audible through the wall behind me, as he called my
parents and the authorities. He came back into the room with the woman who had grabbed my arm as
I exited the department store, announcing that the price for all of the products I had stolen totaled to
approximately $1,300 though he hadn t calculated in the damages of the torn clothing where the
security buttons were ripped out. My best friend, better known as my fellow thief, called her mom to
retrieve us. I used the thick silence of that car ride to prepare something mitigating to say to my
mother. When I delicately, respectfully, quietly entered the foyer, my mom sat waiting, drilling me
with questions. As I entered the foyer, my mom, who had been undoubtedly stewing in her own
thoughts as she awaited my arrival, drilled me with questions. Why would you do this? Because it s
fun. Who made you do this? As if I can t make my own decisions and fuck up my life on my own.
How long has this been going on? I told her once before but in reality it had been going on for a while.
WHY? Why not?

A Brief Analysis Of My Organization s Sharepoint Team
Team Work Readiness Analysis
In this paper I am composing a brief analysis of my organization s SharePoint team. This analysis will
bring together different information that has been composed within my MGMT 581 Team Building
class. The purpose of this analysis is to determine my organizations readiness to support team work.
Also, a SharePoint team improvement plan will be included.
Team Analysis
In an earlier assignment I created a Team Analysis. The team analysis was composed around my
current SharePoint team within Salt River Project (SRP). The SharePoint Team is a self managing
team. My Team consists of two SharePoint developers, two SharePoint administrators, two SharePoint
supporters, and a college intern. I am a SharePoint ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Knowledge, Skills, Attitude
The SharePoint team is well rounded in knowledge and skills. We have entry level positions covered
with our intern, all the way to extremely technical positions such as our developers.
Motivation and Effort
SRP has an implemented bonus system which is called EPIC. The manager sets the team EPIC around
high level goals for the year. These goals are usually created around the successful completion of
known projects needing completion. If my goals are attained by the dates specified, I am awarded an
EPIC bonus. My EPIC bonus is usually awarded at 1 percent of my salary for each goal attained.
Team members are very motivated to obtain their EPIC, and I have noticed this to be consistent with
others as well.
Coordination Strategies
The separated skill sets create an environment that does not need much in the coordination strategy
area. My team knows exactly who is responsible for each task as soon as a requirement is stated.
However, the problem we have currently is a couple of individuals are consistently handled a larger
percentage of the work. The largest complaint around our current planning and task structure is that it
is unequal between team members. I am an administrator and have noticed the unequal load. Team
members with knowledge tend to become the go to personnel to assist others their tasks.
Team Performance
The SharePoint Team is responsible for the SharePoint software and

Human Nature In Gilgamesh
In the Epic of Gilgamesh, Gilgamesh was mostly divine but shared minimal characteristics of a god.
Such characteristics were bold physical structures and the strength of a wild bull which he inherited
from his mother, Ninsun, the cow goddess. Everything else such as his characteristics, mentality, and
actions mirrors ours, humans which makes him more like us than a god. His actions portray the burden
of the flawed human nature that we all carry such as being aggressive, competitive, and running away
from our fears.
Initially, Gilgamesh was known as the tortuous, accomplished, and competitive king of Uruk who
drove people out of their sanity and sought trouble. He frequently held competitions to determine the

Furthermore, by agreeing to bet his life on the success of his quest, Gilgamesh reveals the desire for
being remembered by humans which are specified in the statement, I must set my hand to cutting a
cedar tree, I must establish eternal fame (II. 189 190). Being famous is not a necessity, but a want. It s
just the nature of human to not be satisfied with anything that we have. Something deep inside us
always desires for more. Gilgamesh was the king of Uruk, instead of creating the reputation of a kind,
considerate, generous king, he decided to slay a tremendous monster and tried to impress others
instead. It s the most common mistake that we humans always make. We tend to be so busy
impressing others and striving for their cheers with such frequency, that we forget to be ourselves and
think before we act.We often feel self conscious and inferior to ourselves after we experience failure,
which we fail to tolerate. Impressing others and having the ought to be seen in a positive perspective is
what makes us compete against one another which might not always be morally right. Sometimes it s
better to be the best together rather than ruining relationships due to the consequence of proving to the
world that you re finessed. Gilgamesh harassing young girls and women of his kingdom implies that it
s also an aspect of the human nature to be aggressive and compel others to do something for their
favor. Although we are known to be the only

The Conflict And Systems Theory Of Conflict Management
Conflict is an offensive obstruction of contrasts from two distinct parties on a perceive contradiction
on the desires and concerns of others carrying out their goals. According to Cooper, Conflict develops
when something is propelled into the space already occupied by something else that cannot readily

major aspect of organization life which offer access for advancement, change and development. These
conflict results are vital to theory conflict management method in achieving a conclusion.
Management assumes a willingness to desist or disengage so that the energy produced by the conflict

The theory places significance on characters of individuals in the affiliation while concentrating its
investigation on how and why an person s deed can trigger a reaction or reply from another person
within an organization or institution, and how its solution can be worked out. Due to the fact that
organizations hire diverse individuals with distinct personalities and cultural backgrounds, there are
possibilities of the employees failing to work smoothly with each other and thus a workable solution

for a while in order to let its structures become dry and hard. Once the structures of a newly emerged

However, there exist some types of butterfly, which can live for months. Conclusion Summing it up,
all living things go through different stages of development, which represent their lifecycles. A
butterfly has four stages of life, which include egg stage, caterpillar stage, pupa stage, and the adult

Mother Tongue Literary Analysis
Mother Tongue by Amy Tan is an example of powerful family love that helps to overcome obstacles.
According to Reinhold Niebuhr, family life is too intimate to be preserved by the spirit of justice. It
can be sustained by a spirit of love which goes beyond justice. Therefore, a family is a large organism
that needs to be nourished and maintained. Mother Tongue is a sentimental and emotional story about
a great writer Amy Tan and her lovely mother who struggles from imperfect knowledge of the
language of the country in which she lives. Mother Tongue is one of the examples of a pure and honest
love in the family of immigrants, who tried to identify themselves in the new society and overcome
the language barrier. As a Chinese woman, Amy Tan, whose culture based on respect and veneration
of parents, supports and helps her mother on a long way to tide over her broken English. (Tan 119)
The connection between a daughter and a mother allows Amy to understand her mother s limited
language just by a heart. (Tan 119) Language is a very powerful and strong instrument, but the related
blood between the two main characters is capable to express everything without the words. Amy loved
her mother so much and did not want to hurt her feelings by calling her English broken or fractured ,
as if it were damaged and needed to be fixed, as if it lacked a certain wholeness and soundness . (Tan
119) Despite the global misunderstanding of society and her mother, Amy thinks that her mother s
language is vivid, direct full of observation and imagery. (Tan 119) It is her mother tongue and she is
ready to protect and support her in any situations. Almost every family of immigrants going through a
process of self identification in the new society and suffers from language limitation. Amy s mother
faced many problems because of her imperfect English. Amy said: when I was fifteen, she used to
have me call people on the phone to pretend I was she. (Tan 119) Like every normal person,
immigrant need to have a medical support, a bank account and a lot of simple vital things, to get

When people hear the word pagan some get scared but others are intrigued. Perhaps it was the time

what type of paganism were people being drawn too. Paganism is envisioned from different
perspectives due to the effect of different time eras, the comparison of historical to neopaganism, and
the way that society views it.
Paganism is viewed in many different perspectives around the world. While some people highly
advocate that paganism is earthly based and life fulfilling, others believe that paganism is associated
with the devil and witchcraft. Harvey Graham states that Pagans are inspired in their quest to
understand and celebrate the natural world by a wide range of literature, including botanical treatises,

commonly connected to association with Satan. This symbol is one of the reasons why some people

Although most time Japan will be encouraging exports in areas where they do not particularly

Although there are many different types of trade barriers, the most common is a tariff. In effect tariffs
increase the price of imports, discourage their demand, and insulate domestic producers, to a degree,
from foreign competition. As a result, each country places higher tariffs on goods determined to be

Securing A Republican Political Economy
Tom Brancato History 531E Analytic Essay 1 Securing a Republican Political Economy Introduction
American political economy was greatly shaped by the republican ideas of people like Thomas
Jefferson. It is sometimes easy to take the simplistic view of a republic to mean the creation of a self
governing group of people. As McCoy points out, To men of the eighteenth century the creation of a
republic entailed much more than simply replacing a king and hereditary privilege with an elective
system of government. Indeed, the creation of the early American government involved the setting up
of institutions and policies that would be conducive to the forming of a republic. The term republic
was more than just a system of government to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I would argue that it was the combination of a republican vision supported by the tools of nation
building that was the driving force behind the establishment of the early US political economy. The
Republican Vision The republican vision was more than just a dream of self governance. The founders
were very cognizant of what it would take to maintain the republic in the long term. As McCoy states,
...they assumed that a healthy republican government demanded an economic and social order that
would encourage the shaping of a virtuous citizenry. Founders, such as Jefferson, felt that virtue was
needed to help sustain the republic. According to Jefferson one way to achieve virtue was creating a
political economy based on land. By working on the land, one can learn to be self reliant which would
lead to a more virtuous individual. The ideas that an agrarian life was a virtuous one was not unique to
the founders. Indeed, some have noted that Adam Smith praised agrarian life for the mental skill it
developed, and warned of the dangers of industrial labor on the mind . Surely, it couldn t have just
been the mental benefit that agrarian life promised, that motivated founders like Jefferson. The fact
that England was mostly an industrial, mercantilist economy gave credence to the desire of some of
the founders to prevent the newly formed nation from going down the

At the start of the 2014 season the Los Angeles Dodgers had the largest payroll at a staggering
$235,295,219. On the flipside if we were to look at the bottom of this list the Houston Astros opened
the year at $44,544,174 and the Miami Marlins at $47,565,400 or around 20% of the Dodgers payroll.
What I found to be even more staggering is the fact that after the Miami Marlins the next lowest
payroll was $77,062,891 belonging to the Tampa Bay Rays. So while spending money doesn t always
breed success in that four teams in this year s bottom six Oakland, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, and Tampa
Bay made the playoffs in 2013 and only three teams in the top six did. This was an exception to the
rule because in 2014 five of the top 10 and seven of the top 15 made the playoffs while only three
teams ranked 19th or higher in payroll achieved any kind of success. Proving that while spending
large amounts of money does not guarantee success, it definitely doesn t hurt your chances. The other
popular belief that I have read is that it helps curb costs so that owners don t have to spend as much
out of their own pockets. Which would make sense however the sports franchises in themselves are
investments that cost hundreds of millions to even multiple billions of dollars. So the idea they would
need to pinch pennies once the initial investment is made doesn t add up or sit well with the fans who

Cinematic Techniques In The Dressmaker
The Dressmaker has many similar elements and features to spaghetti westerns. How has the director

Some themes that are included are justice and love. In Lone Ranger (Directed by Stuart Heisler), it is
seen that a hero dubbed the Lone Ranger, a western version of Robin Hood, is depicted as a saviour of
the innocent. When he is enlisted to unknowingly help the bad guys Lone Ranger decides to help the
Indian Tribal people recover their lands. In The Dressmaker , Tilly seeks a personal injustice that
happened to herself when she was blamed for the murder of her half brother, Stewart, when in truth he
killed himself by mistake. Here we can see that both themes of injustice are battled by each of the
protagonist s own moral code and abilities. Having a faulted yet lovable protagonist can make the
modern audience want to support them in their adventures and trials, and also able to relate to the
character s situations. Love is another key theme in spaghetti westerns with the classic idea of damsels

meant to be. When Teddy dies, it gives Tilly the courage to be fearless towards the curses she

Should Assisted Suicide Be Legalized Essay
In recent years, the number of countries legalizing or considering legalizing doctor assisted suicide
continues to increase notably. While some countries have decriminalized the controversial act of
assisted suicide, in many places it remains illegal. Switzerland, Belgium, the Netherlands, and certain
parts of the United States are the only places where, under different terms, doctors are legally allowed
to assist patients who qualify and express a desire to, to end their life due to medical reasons. Though
globally the idea of assisted suicide is becoming less taboo, very few countries have taken steps to
decriminalize it. For various reasons, such as culture and religion, many see assisted suicide as
unethical because they believe that no one has the right to say when someone should die. In addition,
those opposed also believe the option of assisted suicide will result in the exploitation of the health
care system, from patients feeling pressured to opt for assisted suicide, to the opportunity for doctors
to malpractice. However, those who support assisted suicide believe that if a patient decides they want
to end their life they have every right to do so. Others agree with government regulation and

(Shenkman webpg) Although evidence throws a person in both directions it is a simple wish for us to
believe in the fact that a woman held so much power over the opposite sex in the past with her beauty.
Up to this point Cleopatra s beauty has been the only topic discussed, but her appearance was far from
the only thing that kept her royal bottom in the highest seat in Egypt. Cleopatra was a woman who
was always thinking and always one step ahead of the domineering men of her time. A woman of
incredible charisma and intelligence; she spoke nine languages. (Shankman webpg) The first show of
her ability to achieve her desires came when she was put on the throne in 51 BC and made to rule with
her brother Ptolemy XIII. After a three year reign with Ptolemy in the shadow of her ruling, Ptolemies
advisors finally convinced him to overthrow the throne and send Cleopatra into exile. (Comptons

The Symbols Of Robert Frost s The Road Not Taken
Robert Frost went from an unstable farmer aspiring to be a poet to a celebrated American poet and
four time Pulitzer Prize winner. In his poem The Road Not Taken , he writes about the hard choices
that people have to make in their lives. Robert uses extended metaphors and symbolism to show the
uncertainty and psychological chaos people feel while making hard choices. Robert was born in San
Francisco, California on March 26th, 1874. His parents, William Prescott Frost and Isabelle Moodie
were both teachers ( Robert 1). William and Isabelle met while they were both teaching in
Pennsylvania and fell in love. In 1884 William Frost died, leaving his wife and son on their own. The
family struggles financially since they were only receiving one check instead of two (Encyclopedia 1).
Throughout elementary and middle school, Robert surprisingly didn t like going to school. He would
have rather been playing football or baseball with his friends. His mother made him realize the
importance of an education just in time for high school (American 1). In 1892 he graduated high
school as a valedictorian along with Elinor White. Robert was accepted into Dartmouth college and
only finished one term. Robert and Elinor got accepted into different and when she wouldn t agree

The Philosophy Of God And Nature Essay
One would envision that in a written work regarding God and nature, one would begin with an
assessment of Genesis 1:1. One would think I would begin with the foundational truth of God as
creator; however I am not. I will begin just as I did in my book Torah Unchained! A Search for
Christian Morality by looking at our Jewish roots.
The reality that God is absolute Lord over creation is a fundamental concept of Judaism. There is
nothing that happens in the universe that is outside of God s influence and authority. As King of kings
and Lord of lords, God has no limitations. God is above all things and before all things. God is in
control of all things, rules over all things and since the world does not belong to us, we are not free to
misuse it as we see fit.
In Judaism we discover that Torah prohibits all forms of wasteful destruction. Judaism teaches that
anyone who deliberately wastes our resources, either natural or man made, violates Torah. Hence
when we squander recourses we are violating the Law of God.
When, in making war against a town in order to capture it, you lay siege to it for a long time, you are
not to destroy its trees, cutting them down with an axe. You can eat their fruit, so don t cut them down.
After all, are the trees in the field human beings, so that you have to besiege them too? 20 However, if
you know that certain trees provide no food, you may destroy them and cut them down, in order to

Automobile In The Great Gatsby
If you were to have to choose one invention that had the largest impact on everyday life during the
20th century, the invention of the automobile may just have been the most important and impactful.
Although the technology existed during the late 19th century to produce an automobile, had it not
been for Henry Ford and his assembly lines, the automobile may have never been brought into the
hands of the general population. With the expansion of the automobile industry came an economic
revolution during the 1920s across the continental United States as thousands of jobs were created
with the introduction of highway systems in 1921 with the Federal Aid Highway Act. The intent of the
act was to create coherent highway networks using Federal funds ... Show more content on

Scott Fitzgerald published a series of three essays in one of which he wrote: I dreamed that I saw
always at the wheel of a magnificent Stutz, a Stutz as low as a snake and as red an Indiana Barn. (The
Crack Up, Fitzgerald, 226) The cars that Fitzgerald owned in his life, from a Rolls Royce, to a Buick,
a Stutz, a Packard, a Ford Coupe and finally a Ford convertible would be a comparison between the
dreams and realities he had in his life in his journey from careless youth to a cautious, middle aged
man which was greatly representative of the characters in his novels as well. Fitzgerald s descriptions
of Jay Gatsby s Rolls Royce in his 1925 novel The Great Gatsby are very similar to that of Morrison s
as it is described as being a rich cream color, bright with nickel, swollen here and there in its
monstrous length with triumphant hat boxes and upper boxes and tool boxes, and terraced with a
labyrinth of wind shields that mirrored a dozen suns. Sitting down behind many layers of glass in a
sort of green leather conservatory, we started to town. (Fitzgerald, 68) We later get mention of our
narrator Nick Carraway s car, which was an old Dodge . A Dodge during the 1920s was considered to
have been one step above Henry Ford s Model T with its 35 horsepower 4 cylinder L head engine, 12
volt electrical system, electric starter rather than a manual crank (which would prove to be the cause
of many broken wrists for Model T owners), and an all steel body, making it about double the price of

Development Of Modernism After World War II
After the Second World War, attention immediately turned towards reconstructing a better world. Like
the earlier world war, it destroyed a previous social and economic order (Curtis, 1996). Many of tall
buildings were built to meet the large number of human requirements. Modernism was rapidly
developed at that time. This essay aims to explore the development of modernism after World War II
by compare and contrast the two apartments which are Hansaviertel Apartment in German and Society
Hill Towers in the USA. It first discusses the similarity of the two chosen buildings. Then explains the
difference of design, which includes surroundings, building form and the apartment layout.
Furthermore, explore the factors lead to those difference which are policy, the influence of the other
architects and architects own belief.
As cities were destroyed during the war, there were increasing needs of buildings especially the
apartments and houses. These two chosen projects have the same functions as apartments. They were
both high rise buildings, which were built as a part of the redevelopment of the city after the war. The
Hansaviertel Apartment was built in 1957, Berlin, Germany and designed by Alar Aalto. The other one
is named Society Hill Towers in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. I.M Pei is the designer for this apartment.
The two apartments were built at the same time but contrast greatly in term of design, which can

Musically Inspired Movements Essays
From infancy to adulthood, music has been a huge part of our lives. Whether one is listening to their
favorite song in the car or out at a social event, music not only is very entertaining, but possesses the
ability to influence specific behaviors in an individual. With music, various emotions are triggered
using schema s and person level and context level construct s. Schema s are like a folder in a
document that collects and combines a host of day to day interactions in the everyday life of an
individual. For example, think about every time you have attended a birthday party. By attending
multiple birthday parties, you then have a schema of what to expect and not to expect at a birthday
party. This concept is also applied to music. Our ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Michael Jackson hoped that society would be aware about the mismanagement of the Earth. As a
result, the Earth Song was given much attention. This musical piece was able to change many people s
perspective towards the Earth as the song raised awareness around the world just as Michael hoped
for. However, when hearing his musical piece, individual s reacted differently between one another
(Barret et al, 2010). While many people finally became aware of how mistreated the world we live in
is, not everyone was touched on an emotional aspect due to person level constructs (Barret et al,
2010). However, even until this day, the Earth Song will remain relevant until the world is healed of
our mismanagement. Also during the late 1990 s, another movement was starting to begin in the Hip
Hop industry between two prominent stars, Tupac Shakur and Notorious B.I.G, also known as Biggie
Smalls. Both were the biggest names in Hip Hop. The rivalry split between the East Coast, led by
Biggie Smalls and Bad Boy Records and the West Coast represented by Tupac and Death Row
Records. Although the focal point between this feud was between the two Hip Hop stars, the behavior
of fans altered as they too were getting involved by choosing between the two sides. Nonetheless, both
Tupac and Biggie lived a short life. Yet, the deaths of both Tupac and Biggie gave the real world of
Hip Hop pathos. After their deaths, both musicians emerged as one of Hip Hop s greatest icons. Due to

Evolutionary Theories Of Human Behavior
Before discussing this question it is important to understand how neurotransmission occurs. Firstly,
the neuron impulse needs to be triggered, dopamine for example can be triggered by something a
human finds pleasurable such as cigarettes or food. After the neuron is triggered it fires the impulse
across the neuron releasing dopamine transmitters into the synaptic gap. From there, the
neurotransmitter binds with specific receptor sites to activate the dopamine. Almost immediately after
the human is filled with joy and pleasure. This explains how (especially in addicts) the site of things
can cause pleasure and affect human behavior in a positive way. Contradicting this however if there is
a problem or lack of dopamine, the human will have feelings ... Show more content on

Historically disgust would have allowed human ancestors to survive long and produce strong offspring
because they would avoid harmful or rancid food or animals. Because of this, similar genes would
have been passed to the next generation. One case study that represents how disgust has become an
acquired and evolutionary trait that explains human behavior is Fessler (2006). In this cases study
Fessler hypothesized that disgust would help in keeping the potential fetus safe from harm. In order to
best prove this 496 healthy pregnant women from ages 18 to 50 in an online survey were given
different images and asked to rank them on the scale system of disgust. This study discovered that
women in their first trimester largely scored higher on the level of disgust compared to that of women
in the second and third trimester. Furthermore, when the study was controlled more greatly it was
found that higher levels of sickness were in response to that of food. This study helps supports disgust
being an evolutionary trait passed on by humans because it helps young offspring fight potential
disease as well as assist in the reproduction of offspring for having a greater survival chance.Within
biological psychology, one of the primary principle states that there are biological correlates on
behavior. By this, there are genetically acquired behavioral traits such as hormones and
neurotransmitters that explains why humans have particular behaviors. One case study that helps to
prove this theory is newcomer et al 1999. In this study participants were broken up into three groups,
group one given the highest amount of cortisol had tablets that were 160 mg of cortisol for four days.

overall effectiveness of their business, new strategies must be implemented. To begin, the main issue
Hollywood Cone faces is the retention of summer students. Summer students make up a large portion

in the summer months. Prince and Chako (2016) state that, organizations incur very high costs as a

Empire to lose money and caused the empire to split. The Bohemian phase from 1618 to 1625 was
sparked by the defenestration of Prague. This incited civil war between the Catholics League and the

there is a person who has full political power over a country, rose in the 17th century due to the
increase in surplus, mercantilism and the standing armies. Due to the increase in surplus in these
countries, the government had more money to spend. Mercantilism also contributed to the economic
growth of countries that adopted it. The increased money from these meant increased funding for
standing armies. The standing armies gave the king an army without needing to call on the nobles,
thereby lessening their importance and power, and heightening the king s. 3. Why is Richelieu so
important for French history? Richelieu was important for French history as he strengthened the
French monarchy through the unification of France, lessening of nobles power and boosting economic
growth. Richelieu unified France by making French the national language of France. The unification
of France made it easier for Louis XIII to achieve an Absolutist government. Richelieu minimised the
nobles power, which in turn increased the monarch s power. Richelieu also managed the economic

Jefferson And Andrew Jackson
Both Thomas Jefferson and Andrew Jackson believed that they positively influenced the people of the
United States. These two Presidents considered themselves as helping the common interests of the
people, yet had different and similar approaches to running the government and conducting
Presidential tasks. Thomas Jefferson, elected in 1800, had different views on the National Government
and its affairs compared to Jackson (Davidson and Stoff 310). Jefferson believed that the states should
have more power than the Federal Government, essentially supporting a limited central government
(311). Also, in regards to foreign affairs and expansion, Jefferson chose to handle them peacefully

In other words, Jackson believed that the Federal Government should have more power over the state
legislatures, in order to maintain a stable and effective U.S. government for all to see. This difference
is supported by Jackson s arguments against nullification (365). Nullification is the action of a state to
cancel any objectionable federal law (364). The support against nullification means that Jackson did
not believe that the states should be able to object to any federal laws; assering the Federal
Government s dominance over the states. Within this argument, Jackson issued a document known as
the Proclamation to the People of South Carolina (365). This proclamation stated that, even if the state
of South Carolina supported nullification and President Jackson did not, South Carolina could not
threaten to leave the Union. This was named treason in the document. It was released in response to an
attempt by South Carolina to nullify tariffs placed on textiles in 1828 (364). In a final display of
Federal Government power, Jackson passed a law which allowed members of the government to
forcefully collect tariffs if necessary (365). In this situation with South Carolina, it is clear that an irate
President Jackson was keen on showing the country the power of the American Federal Government.
On the other hand, President Jefferson fired government employees as part of his Revolution. Despite

Beowulf As A Christian Hero
In addition, Beowulf exemplifies many features that define him as a Christian hero as well by
specifically resembling a Christ figure. The monster Grendel instills an overall feeling of fear of death
on the citizens of Heorot. When Beowulf arrives and defeats Grendel, he subsequently and
momentarily releases the people of these bonds of fear, much like Jesus releases the people from the
fear of death by dying for their sins and ensuring an eternally ideal afterlife. Additionally, the author
portrays Grendel as an incarnation of the Christian devil throughout the story. Many of his
characteristics resemble those of Satan. This includes the fact that he belongs to the lineage of Cain
and the fact that his and his mother s home provokes images of hell. However, another enemy of
Beowulf also resembles Satan: the dragon. The bible describes Satan as the great dragon...the serpent
of old . This description draws an interesting comparison between Beowulf s battle with the dragon
and Jesus experience in the garden of Gethsemane. In Matthew 26:36 56, Jesus tells his eleven
disciples not to fight the people that capture him and willingly sacrifices himself for the good of the
people despite the betrayal by Judas, one of his own. Similarly, eleven men follow Beowulf when he
faces the dragon. Just like Jesus knew his predetermination to die for his people, Beowulf recognizes
his mortality and knows his time on earth is ending. Beowulf slays the dragon, but the cost is his life.

Latin Language Research Paper
How did the Latin language eventually become the basis for several Western European languages?
Throughout the world, Latin prefixes can be found in many different languages. Many Romance
languages have evolved mainly from Latin. Some of these languages accommodate Italian, French,
Spanish, Romanian, and many more. History shows how Latin became the basis for Western European
languages. Latin s geography was a dominant key to the dispersion of the language. Latin was spoken
in Latium, an area of central Italy. It was the language of the Romans, who founded their city of Rome

Philosophy argues that misfortune is more beneficial than good fortune, for good fortune deceives, but
misfortune teaches (Boethius, 40). The valuable lessons that bad luck and misfortune teaches a person
is to live life modestly, appreciate everything that you have, be humble, and don t take anything for
granted. Lady Philosophy advises to reach the point in the wheel where good and bad fortune are
equal and then a person won t need either to be happy. If you have God and know yourself, than a
person doesn t need either to be truly happy. 4. Boethius relates the human experience of destiny/fate
and the divine foreknowledge/providence by interpreting their meanings in real life. Providence is the
immovable and simple form of all things which come into being, while Fate is the moving connection
and temporal order of all things which the divine simplicity has decided to bring into being (Boethius,
92). Boethius says that providence is what happens in one second for God and fate is what happens in
the course of a lifetime for human beings. He suggests that God knows the end of our lives right from
the beginning but he doesn t necessarily know each individual action or thought that it will take for a
person to get there. Fate on the other hand is free will. Human beings determine what courses of
actions to take in a lifetime, but ultimately, God

characteristics due to geographical differences.

The earlier species display a lower brain capacity per cubic centimeter. This is a progressive change
that is relative to the advancement of time. This shows that as time moved on, the earlier version
improved. And it has gradually but distinctly developed along with the human evolution. The three
types should indeed be categorized as different species. However, there are other times when some
differences should be considered a result of geographic differences. This applies for instance in the
case of Homo Erectus and Homo ergaster, proving the words of scientist that the two have such a
close similarity during the time of existence.
The other species that that could be confusing and be presented as the same species of the pre modern
man is Ancient Homo sapiens and Homo Erectus. The two populations, though they present some
clear differences, it is possible that they may have been the same species but different families or
developed the differences due to the regional and geographical

The Role Of Specific Subjects On Education Production...
Kalena E. Cortes, Jesse Bricker, and Chris Rohlfs exploited the fact that absences are 4 7 days higher
per year in first period classes in Chicago Public school in their paper The Role of Specific Subjects in
Education Production Functions: Evidence from Morning Classes in Chicago Public High Schools .
They found that having a class in first period significantly reduces grades in that course, but does not
affect grades in related subjects (Cortez Year). this effect is especially apparent in math classes, and
also reduces grades in future math classes (Cortez year). Implications The literature presented is in
almost unanimous agreement that later daily school start times lead to improved academic
achievement in adolescents, with the greatest improvement as start times move from around 7:00 am
to after 8:00 am, with diminishing marginal improvements afterwards. Students assigned to a first
period class at the USAFA earned worse grades in both their first period classes and classes
throughout the day than their peers who were not assigned to a first period class(Carrell 79). This
negative effect was most apparent when the first period starting time was 7:00 am, but was still
present after a policy changed the starting time of the first period to 7:50 am. Likewise, middle school
students in the Wake County Public School System who began their day between 8:00 8:45 am had
2% higher scores on both standardized mathematics and reading exams than students whose

Whenever his army marched into a land, it was not just an army of warriors; he brought an entourage
of scholars to spread the culture as well. Interspersed within the fighting battalions were architects,
philosophers, scribes, musicians, and educators whose whole duty was to spread the culture to those
who were conquered. Some of these strategies were the establishment of Greek cities, Greek schools
(Gymnasia), and commanding the Greek language as the official language for government and the de
facto language for commerce. Many people began to give their children Greek names, and local styles
of art and architecture began to imitate Greek models. Even some of the Jewish High Priests took
Greek names. All of this was not a good turn of events for Israel since the Greek culture was very
ungodly and humanistic. Despite the bright and promising future ahead of him, Alexander met an
unexpected death in Babylon at the age of 32 and though one will like to believe that all that he stood
for will now be in vain, the case was not so but rather what he initiated had only just begun. After the
death of Alexander his field marshals struggled for dominion of the lands they had conquered.
Ptolemaic Period (198 167 BC)
After the death of Alexander was the appointment of his successor Ptolemy (one of Alexander
commanders), germinating conflict between four emerging generals.[7]

Basically speaking, the skills involved in managerial jobs include technical subject skills, general
management an organisation skills, analytical subject skills, social and cultural skills, management of
people, communication and leadership skills, and political skills (Milan Kubr,1989). We can also look
at the McGregor s Theory X and Theory Y (McGregor 1957) where the theory X suggest that people
have an inherent dislike for work and will avoid it whenever possible. It also states that people prefer
to be directed, do not want responsibility, and have little or no ambition and also seek security above
all else. These, specially the theory X suggest how the attitude and assumption can influence
managerial behaviour at the end of the day. Applying and controlling through these factors will give a
positive grip on managerial behaviours in workplace.
1.3 Evaluation a model of managerial style in which the manager can apply skills to identify study and
review their patterns of behaviour:
A managerial style is not an end it every time itself but it means an end. Generally a manager judged

Working Hard Drinking Hard Is An Ethnography Written By...
Working Hard Drinking Hard is an ethnography written by Adrienne Pine who is an Anthropologist
that focused her research work based out of Honduras and it took place from 1997 2003. Honduras is a
country located in Central America neighbouring to Nicaragua and Guatemala. Throughout field
notes, audio, and video clips along with participant observation Adrienne Pine was able to capture the
way of life for certain Hondurans who were able to tell her their stories. Poverty has been a key
association of many issues for the Honduran people and has had a tremendous impact on: work and
employment, alcohol abuse, and violence within the community.
Poverty is a major issue that many Hondurans are faced with each and everyday. In 2002, 77.3% ...

This is because large corporations can take advantage of developing countries and not abide to the
same standards of ethics and employment treatment as they would in a developed country and Pine
was able to demonstrate that through her ethnography.
In the Maquiladoras the workers are 70% women, they are subject to poor working conditions and
sexual harassment. Illegal work practices also occur such as firing pregnant women and denying
maternity leave. Women are paid less than men and are let go around the age of 30 with very few
skills. (Pine 2008, p.142)
This shows that although the Maquiladora industries are able to provide employment to those in
poverty, the end result does not help these men and women prepare for a future outside of their
alienated tasks at these factories and they are also subject to unethical practices, making it clear the
poverty affects the work of Hondurans. Another academic source The Economist published an article
in 1997 which was during the uproar of the clothing manufacturing industries and had this to say
about what they found out on the Maquiladora industries: In the worst sweatshops, women work 16
hour days with a single half hour break. Some work 80 hours a week without overtime pay or take

Essay On Disputed Territory
Disputed territory is often described as a land that has been disagreed over power and ownership
typically between a new state and the previously owning country. Disputed territory was also the main
reason for the battle between Mexico and the United States to brew. United States was the first to act
and begin this war, but did the country really have good reasoning to get even with Mexico? Indeed,
the United was justified in going to war with Mexico because 16 of our American soldiers were killed,
Mexico was just beginning to be a their own country and did not exert enough government control,
and Texas wanted to be part of the United States in the first place. In the year 1846, our soldiers were
sent down to the border between newly added Texas and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The soldiers were sent as protectors from Mexico. Before becoming part of the United States, Texas
had new citizens already arriving in their part of the country. These citizens were coming from the
United States. Most of them were Protestants, and did not abide by the Catholic religion, which
Mexico had ordered them to. All of the previous United States citizens in Texas agreed to revolt
against Mexican officials. Texas gained their independence at the Battle of San Jacinto and was
commenced a search for a new land to abide to. They had annexed to become part of the United
States, but unfortunately Congress voted against this proposal. The reason being was that, many
congressmen did not want a large slave territory being added in the Northeast. Somehow in late 1844,
President James K. Polk was elected as a leader of this nation. He spread the idea of Manifest Destiny
throughout the nation. Manifest Destiny was a belief that it was God s will for this democracy to
spread all the way to the Pacific ocean. Before this president took office, Congress had reversed their
whole way of thinking, and voted to annex Texas. This was where United States soldiers were sent
down into disputed

Essay On The 1920s
The 1920s was a drastic shift for young people s choices and future consequences. The years of the
1920s represented a new type of freedom for women, young adults, African Americans, and
immigrants. A group of people support dogmatic, old slow rural life, religious belief, and did not care
for education, while the others embraced modernism and preferred urban living, contributing to
technology, continuing education, urban development, science, and a brighter future. The anti
modernist people carried out every effort in their power to depict change as a bad idea for the future.
Most of the beliefs established radical groups such as religious cults, communist party, military
radicals, the K.K.K having 3 million members at their climax ... Show more content on

Life in a larger city provided people with better access and opportunity to vote, women were incurred

Gun Control And The Second Amendment
Samuel Wurzelbacher, AKA Joe the Plumber, watched Richard Martinez mourn over the death of his
only son who was shot in the Isla Vista rampage. He responded to Richard Martinez with an open
letter on a website, Barbwire.com, saying : I am sorry you lost your child. I myself have a son and
daughter and the one thing I never want to go through, is what you are going through right now. But:
as harsh as this sounds your dead kids don t trump my Constitutional rights. This is the type of thing
that people find so terrible about the Second Amendment; because pro gun zealots use the Second
Amendment to protect their immoral actions, but this is their twisted and corrupted interpretation on
the meaning and intent of the Amendment because this is in no way the original premise of the Second
Amendment. The right to bear arms laid out in the Second Amendment is just because guns are
weapons for self defense. Precautions are taken on gun control, such as keeping a permanent record of
all gun sales, requiring a license and certain mental certifications, and only allowing certain guns to be
distributed to the public. Although some may argue that they can also be used to kill the innocent, the
removal of guns from the possession of certified citizens will not stop crime, murder, or the death of
innocents because guns are not the only weapons capable of these deaths.
First of all, the right to bear arms is just because guns are weapons of self defense, and can be used to
prevent the

The Hacked World Order By Adam Segal
Adam Segal s The Hacked World Order reveals many prevalent issues in today s technologically
centered society. Starting at Year Zero, June 2012 to June 2013, the battle over cyberspace witnessed
world changing cyberattacks. This was accomplished due to the fact that nearly 75% of the world s
population has easy access to a mobile phone, and the Internet connects nearly 40% of the total human
population, which is nearly 2.7 billion people. With that being said, cyberattacks are becoming a more
realistic form of terror.
The danger behind these attacks is
Year Zero began with the detection of the Stuxnet malware, allegedly developed by the United States,
who partnered with Israel. This malware was released in order to damage Iranian machines and mess
with Iran s best scientific minds. Stuxnet proved that the United States was willing to do whatever it
took to develop these forms of offensive capabilities which are needed to dominate the cyber
battlespace. This attack was used to send Iran s nuclear program back almost two years. I think that
what made Stuxnet dangerous was that it was nearly impossible to detect, developers had zero days to
fix or patch damage that had already been done. The computers used to transfer the malware were not
connected to the Internet, they jumped the air gap by allowing the malware to be transferred through
portable devices, leading to an even more traumatic cyberattack. I believe that the US knew the risks
for deploying this type of

The American Lloyd s Register Essay
From early 1852 to 1869 the Damariscotta ship was christened the North American and during its
career as an American ship hailed from New York. Its owner or consignees were: J.W. Phillips (ca
1857 to 1858) Williams Guion, (ca 1860 to 1867) and A. Jacquemot (ca 1868) . The ship s career as a
passenger and cargo carrier started with its use in the California Gold Rush. In all issues of the
American Lloyd s Register, it is described as built in 1851, not 1852 or 1853 as often informed.
Probably this is the year its keel was laid. A quick search on the internet revealed that it also
transported immigrants in the 1860s departing from Liverpool to New York.
Captain Collier is not associated with the North American. Collier s North America was built in
Boston in 1851 and had almost the same dimensions as the North American. In 1859 the Boston ship
was owned by Nickerson Company of Boston.
Similarity and contemporaneity of both ships account for the mixing up of identities. This is even
more confusing when the 1866 and 1867 issues of the American Lloyd s Register were checked: the
Damariscotta ship was registered as North America, but the Boston ship had been removed from
registers, probably sold or scuttled. It is conceivable that this was a temporary change of name as the
name North America carried some status with it. In reality, by looking up Lloyd s registers for the next
years, many different types of vessels from full rigged ships to steamships appeared bearing this

Examine and assess the idea that the authority of the state to govern is always contested This essay will explore the assertion above by considering democratic governing, troubles in Northern Ireland, and international relations including the UN. It will conclude that the state s authority is always and necessarily contested, and its reaction to such challenges is partially related its system of government. Modern day politics commonly follows a democratic system, and this in itself can lead to further contestation of the state. The state refers to the politicians that comprise the leadership, along with the machinery of government that allow laws and policies to be enforced. These include those agencies with coercive powers, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It may be considered whether the election process can be considered to be contesting the state ? It is, after all, a legitimate process which is endorsed by the state itself. In recent UK elections 35% of citizens did not vote (BBC, accessed June 2010), suggesting a significant minority of citizens do not feel it is necessary to participate in this type of political contestation. The recent introduction of the citizen initiative within UK politics, which is already common in the US ( Citizens of the state, 2009, track 1) shows how democracy further encourages contestation. If enough citizen support can be gathered for an issue (through petitioning) then a referendum will be held. This is illustrative of democracies handing power over to the people, which can result in debate over governmental policies and decisions. A democratic system features oppositional parties who have frequent opportunities to contest policies or actions that the elected party wish to implement. The recent televised election debates in Britain are an example of this, where not only were citizens given an opportunity to question political agendas and policies, but all political parties had an opportunity to contest each other. In the UK Parliament the governing party s authority is frequently challenged by opposing parties. Often within a political party there will be challenges to the authority of the leadership votes of no ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This event caused many changes in Germany, including the way people thought and acted. People have gone from no phones, to phones, and fancy daily dress, to casual. Since the fall of the Berlin Wall, the big changes in culture in Germany are marriage traditions, clothing trends, and religion. Human Embryonic Stem Cell Research In the Declaration on the Production and the Scientific and Therapeutic Use of Human Embryonic Stem Cells, the Pontifical Academy for Life presents the field of stem cell research with a statement regarding the official Roman Catholic position on the moral aspects of acquiring and using human embryonic stem cells. They have declared that it is not morally legitimate to produce or use human embryos as a source of stem cells, nor is it acceptable to use stem cells from cell lines already established. Thus, bringing up the conflicting topic concerned with the point in time in which a human embryo becomes more than a simple mass of cells, but a human individual with a well defined identity. Gerard Magil and William B. Neaves, in their paper Ontological and Ethical Implications of Direct Nuclear Reprogramming has conflicted the Academy s position on stem cell research with an alternative understanding of adult stem cells. In what follows, I will argue that the Academy does not adequately defend the Church s standpoint on stem cell research. However, I will also suggest that even if the Church s position were accepted, this would not provide an adequate solution to the ethical question revolving around stem cell research. In order to rightly investigate the position defined in the Declaration on the Production and the Scientific and Therapeutic Use of Human Embryonic Stem Cells a summary must first be presented. • 6. Description Of A Man s Voice We sat on a cheap wooden bench in the security room in the back of Lord and Taylor, our bags lay on their sides, the contents spilled across the concrete floor. Little white tags hung from the fabric, a few seams were noticeably ripped along the side ribbing of the clothing. Computer screens encompassed the room, the surveillance footage rotated intermittently from Camera 1 to Camera 2 to Dressing Room Camera. The man s voice was barely audible through the wall behind me, as he called my parents and the authorities. He came back into the room with the woman who had grabbed my arm as I exited the department store, announcing that the price for all of the products I had stolen totaled to approximately $1,300 though he hadn t calculated in the damages of the torn clothing where the security buttons were ripped out. My best friend, better known as my fellow thief, called her mom to retrieve us. I used the thick silence of that car ride to prepare something mitigating to say to my mother. When I delicately, respectfully, quietly entered the foyer, my mom sat waiting, drilling me with questions. As I entered the foyer, my mom, who had been undoubtedly stewing in her own thoughts as she awaited my arrival, drilled me with questions. Why would you do this? Because it s fun. Who made you do this? As if I can t make my own decisions and fuck up my life on my own. How long has this been going on? I told her once before but in reality it had been going on for a while. WHY? Such characteristics were bold physical structures and the strength of a wild bull which he inherited from his mother, Ninsun, the cow goddess. Everything else such as his characteristics, mentality, and actions mirrors ours, humans which makes him more like us than a god. His actions portray the burden of the flawed human nature that we all carry such as being aggressive, competitive, and running away from our fears. Furthermore, by agreeing to bet his life on the success of his quest, Gilgamesh reveals the desire for being remembered by humans which are specified in the statement, I must set my hand to cutting a cedar tree, I must establish eternal fame (II. 189 190). Being famous is not a necessity, but a want. It s just the nature of human to not be satisfied with anything that we have. Something deep inside us always desires for more. Gilgamesh was the king of Uruk, instead of creating the reputation of a kind, considerate, generous king, he decided to slay a tremendous monster and tried to impress others instead. It s the most common mistake that we humans always make. We tend to be so busy impressing others and striving for their cheers with such frequency, that we forget to be ourselves and think before we act.We often feel self conscious and inferior to ourselves after we experience failure, which we fail to tolerate. Impressing others and having the ought to be seen in a positive perspective is what makes us compete against one another which might not always be morally right. Sometimes it s better to be the best together rather than ruining relationships due to the consequence of proving to the world that you re finessed. According to Reinhold Niebuhr, family life is too intimate to be preserved by the spirit of justice. It can be sustained by a spirit of love which goes beyond justice. Therefore, a family is a large organism that needs to be nourished and maintained. Mother Tongue is a sentimental and emotional story about a great writer Amy Tan and her lovely mother who struggles from imperfect knowledge of the language of the country in which she lives. Mother Tongue is one of the examples of a pure and honest love in the family of immigrants, who tried to identify themselves in the new society and overcome the language barrier. As a Chinese woman, Amy Tan, whose culture based on respect and veneration of parents, supports and helps her mother on a long way to tide over her broken English. (Tan 119) The connection between a daughter and a mother allows Amy to understand her mother s limited language just by a heart. (Tan 119) Language is a very powerful and strong instrument, but the related blood between the two main characters is capable to express everything without the words. Amy loved her mother so much and did not want to hurt her feelings by calling her English broken or fractured , as if it were damaged and needed to be fixed, as if it lacked a certain wholeness and soundness . (Tan 119) Despite the global misunderstanding of society and her mother, Amy thinks that her mother s language is vivid, direct full of observation and imagery. Although most time Japan will be encouraging exports in areas where they do not particularly specialize, it is up to the government to decide whether or not they will allow in exports. Although there are many different types of trade barriers, the most common is a tariff. In effect tariffs increase the price of imports, discourage their demand, and insulate domestic producers, to a degree, from foreign competition. As a result, each country places higher tariffs on goods determined to be import sensitive. This is precisely how Nike is affected when other countries impose tariffs. Securing A Republican Political Economy Tom Brancato History 531E Analytic Essay 1 Securing a Republican Political Economy Introduction American political economy was greatly shaped by the republican ideas of people like Thomas Jefferson. It is sometimes easy to take the simplistic view of a republic to mean the creation of a self governing group of people. As McCoy points out, To men of the eighteenth century the creation of a republic entailed much more than simply replacing a king and hereditary privilege with an elective system of government. Indeed, the creation of the early American government involved the setting up of institutions and policies that would be conducive to the forming of a republic. I would argue that it was the combination of a republican vision supported by the tools of nation building that was the driving force behind the establishment of the early US political economy. The Republican Vision The republican vision was more than just a dream of self governance. The founders were very cognizant of what it would take to maintain the republic in the long term. As McCoy states, ...they assumed that a healthy republican government demanded an economic and social order that would encourage the shaping of a virtuous citizenry. Founders, such as Jefferson, felt that virtue was needed to help sustain the republic. According to Jefferson one way to achieve virtue was creating a political economy based on land. By working on the land, one can learn to be self reliant which would lead to a more virtuous individual. The ideas that an agrarian life was a virtuous one was not unique to the founders. Indeed, some have noted that Adam Smith praised agrarian life for the mental skill it developed, and warned of the dangers of industrial labor on the mind . Surely, it couldn t have just been the mental benefit that agrarian life promised, that motivated founders like Jefferson. The fact that England was mostly an industrial, mercantilist economy gave credence to the desire of some of the founders to prevent the newly formed nation from going down the ... As well as how it has reshaped the teams and leagues itself to help the NFL to grow into the Multi Billion Dollar sports empire that it was become today. On the flipside if we were to look at the bottom of this list the Houston Astros opened the year at $44,544,174 and the Miami Marlins at $47,565,400 or around 20% of the Dodgers payroll. What I found to be even more staggering is the fact that after the Miami Marlins the next lowest payroll was $77,062,891 belonging to the Tampa Bay Rays. So while spending money doesn t always breed success in that four teams in this year s bottom six Oakland, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, and Tampa Bay made the playoffs in 2013 and only three teams in the top six did. This was an exception to the rule because in 2014 five of the top 10 and seven of the top 15 made the playoffs while only three teams ranked 19th or higher in payroll achieved any kind of success. Proving that while spending large amounts of money does not guarantee success, it definitely doesn t hurt your chances. The other popular belief that I have read is that it helps curb costs so that owners don t have to spend as much out of their own pockets. Which would make sense however the sports franchises in themselves are investments that cost hundreds of millions to even multiple billions of dollars. So the idea they would need to pinch pennies once the initial investment is made doesn t add up or sit well with the fans who find their rooting interests at the bottom end of the financial ... In The Dressmaker , Tilly seeks a personal injustice that happened to herself when she was blamed for the murder of her half brother, Stewart, when in truth he killed himself by mistake. Here we can see that both themes of injustice are battled by each of the protagonist s own moral code and abilities. Having a faulted yet lovable protagonist can make the modern audience want to support them in their adventures and trials, and also able to relate to the character s situations. One would think I would begin with the foundational truth of God as creator; however I am not. I will begin just as I did in my book Torah Unchained! A Search for Christian Morality by looking at our Jewish roots. The reality that God is absolute Lord over creation is a fundamental concept of Judaism. There is nothing that happens in the universe that is outside of God s influence and authority. As King of kings and Lord of lords, God has no limitations. God is above all things and before all things. God is in control of all things, rules over all things and since the world does not belong to us, we are not free to misuse it as we see fit. Firstly, the neuron impulse needs to be triggered, dopamine for example can be triggered by something a human finds pleasurable such as cigarettes or food. From there, the neurotransmitter binds with specific receptor sites to activate the dopamine. Almost immediately after the human is filled with joy and pleasure. In this cases study Fessler hypothesized that disgust would help in keeping the potential fetus safe from harm. Richelieu minimised the nobles power, which in turn increased the monarch s power. Richelieu also managed the economic activities of France. These strengthened the French monarchy significantly. 4. These two Presidents considered themselves as helping the common interests of the people, yet had different and similar approaches to running the government and conducting Presidential tasks. Thomas Jefferson, elected in 1800, had different views on the National Government and its affairs compared to Jackson (Davidson and Stoff 310). In other words, Jackson believed that the Federal Government should have more power over the state legislatures, in order to maintain a stable and effective U.S. government for all to see. This difference is supported by Jackson s arguments against nullification (365). Nullification is the action of a state to cancel any objectionable federal law (364). The support against nullification means that Jackson did not believe that the states should be able to object to any federal laws; assering the Federal Government s dominance over the states. Within this argument, Jackson issued a document known as the Proclamation to the People of South Carolina (365). This proclamation stated that, even if the state of South Carolina supported nullification and President Jackson did not, South Carolina could not threaten to leave the Union. This was named treason in the document. It was released in response to an attempt by South Carolina to nullify tariffs placed on textiles in 1828 (364). In a final display of Federal Government power, Jackson passed a law which allowed members of the government to forcefully collect tariffs if necessary (365). In this situation with South Carolina, it is clear that an irate President Jackson was keen on showing the country the power of the American Federal Government. • 35. Beowulf As A Christian Hero In addition, Beowulf exemplifies many features that define him as a Christian hero as well by specifically resembling a Christ figure. The monster Grendel instills an overall feeling of fear of death on the citizens of Heorot. When Beowulf arrives and defeats Grendel, he subsequently and momentarily releases the people of these bonds of fear, much like Jesus releases the people from the fear of death by dying for their sins and ensuring an eternally ideal afterlife. Additionally, the author portrays Grendel as an incarnation of the Christian devil throughout the story. Many of his characteristics resemble those of Satan. This includes the fact that he belongs to the lineage of Cain and the fact that his and his mother s home provokes images of hell. However, another enemy of Beowulf also resembles Satan: the dragon. The bible describes Satan as the great dragon...the serpent of old . This description draws an interesting comparison between Beowulf s battle with the dragon and Jesus experience in the garden of Gethsemane. In Matthew 26:36 56, Jesus tells his eleven disciples not to fight the people that capture him and willingly sacrifices himself for the good of the people despite the betrayal by Judas, one of his own. Similarly, eleven men follow Beowulf when he faces the dragon. Just like Jesus knew his predetermination to die for his people, Beowulf recognizes his mortality and knows his time on earth is ending. After becoming consul, charges of treason were brought against him. He lived in a time in Roman society when everyone was mainly Christian. Lady Philosophy advises to reach the point in the wheel where good and bad fortune are equal and then a person won t need either to be happy. If you have God and know yourself, than a person doesn t need either to be truly happy. 4. Boethius relates the human experience of destiny/fate and the divine foreknowledge/providence by interpreting their meanings in real life. Providence is the immovable and simple form of all things which come into being, while Fate is the moving connection and temporal order of all things which the divine simplicity has decided to bring into being (Boethius, 92). Boethius says that providence is what happens in one second for God and fate is what happens in the course of a lifetime for human beings. He suggests that God knows the end of our lives right from the beginning but he doesn t necessarily know each individual action or thought that it will take for a person to get there. They found that having a class in first period significantly reduces grades in that course, but does not affect grades in related subjects (Cortez Year). this effect is especially apparent in math classes, and also reduces grades in future math classes (Cortez year). Implications The literature presented is in almost unanimous agreement that later daily school start times lead to improved academic achievement in adolescents, with the greatest improvement as start times move from around 7:00 am to after 8:00 am, with diminishing marginal improvements afterwards. Students assigned to a first period class at the USAFA earned worse grades in both their first period classes and classes throughout the day than their peers who were not assigned to a first period class(Carrell 79). This negative effect was most apparent when the first period starting time was 7:00 am, but was still present after a policy changed the starting time of the first period to 7:50 am. Illegal work practices also occur such as firing pregnant women and denying maternity leave. Women are paid less than men and are let go around the age of 30 with very few skills. Starting at Year Zero, June 2012 to June 2013, the battle over cyberspace witnessed world changing cyberattacks. This was accomplished due to the fact that nearly 75% of the world s population has easy access to a mobile phone, and the Internet connects nearly 40% of the total human population, which is nearly 2.7 billion people. With that being said, cyberattacks are becoming a more realistic form of terror. The danger behind these attacks is Year Zero began with the detection of the Stuxnet malware, allegedly developed by the United States, who partnered with Israel. This malware was released in order to damage Iranian machines and mess with Iran s best scientific minds. Stuxnet proved that the United States was willing to do whatever it took to develop these forms of offensive capabilities which are needed to dominate the cyber battlespace. This attack was used to send Iran s nuclear program back almost two years. I think that what made Stuxnet dangerous was that it was nearly impossible to detect, developers had zero days to fix or patch damage that had already been done. The computers used to transfer the malware were not connected to the Internet, they jumped the air gap by allowing the malware to be transferred through portable devices, leading to an even more traumatic cyberattack. The ship s career as a passenger and cargo carrier started with its use in the California Gold Rush. In all issues of the American Lloyd s Register, it is described as built in 1851, not 1852 or 1853 as often informed. Probably this is the year its keel was laid. A quick search on the internet revealed that it also transported immigrants in the 1860s departing from Liverpool to New York. Captain Collier is not associated with the North American. Collier s North America was built in Boston in 1851 and had almost the same dimensions as the North American. In 1859 the Boston ship was owned by Nickerson Company of Boston. Similarity and contemporaneity of both ships account for the mixing up of identities. This is even more confusing when the 1866 and 1867 issues of the American Lloyd s Register were checked: the Damariscotta ship was registered as North America, but the Boston ship had been removed from registers, probably sold or scuttled. It is conceivable that this was a temporary change of name as the name North America carried some status with it.
