CO2 Evolved due to Temperature s Effect on Yeast Fermentation of Glucose
Abstract
This experiment measured the amount of CO2 evolved based on yeast fermentation of glucose. It
was hypothesized that at room temperature, about 22 degrees Celsius, less CO2 would be
produced than when tested at 37 degrees Celsius. In order to determine the amount of CO2
evolved, an experiment was set up involving yeast, glucose, deionized water, and heat. To begin
the experiment, six fermentation flasks were acquired. Six milliliters of 10% glucose was
pipetted into each flask, followed by 10 mL of deionized water and 8 mL of the prepared yeast
solution. After each flask was placed at the appropriate temperatures necessary for the
experiment, the production of CO2 started to be monitored. Data was recorded consecutively
every two minutes over a time period of twenty minutes, and recorded in a data chart. The
average CO2 production at 37 degrees Celsius and 22 degrees Celsius was determined from the t
test results. According to these results, the average amount of CO2 produced after twenty minutes
at 37 degrees Celsius was 123 millimeters, and the average CO2 produced at 22 degrees was 26

In this experiment, the rate of fermentation was increased while at higher temperatures due to the
increased rate of enzymatic activity. Enzymatic activity due to the level of kinetic energy also
plays a significant role in the rate of yeast fermentation of glucose (Gale, T., 2006). Given that
enzymes are more active at higher temperatures, this means that fermentation occurs at higher

37. My Favorite Flower Essay
I have currently been building a life in the deep parts of the tropical rainforest. Things here are
very different from home. They don t have regular seasons here like places normally do. Spring,
summer, fall, and winter are non existent; instead, they have wet seasons and dry seasons. Both
wet and dry last 6 months each. The wet season lasts from December May, and gets 6 12 feet of
rain during this period! The dry season lasts from June August, and gets about 6 inches of rain.
Most of the time when you imagine the rainforestin your head you see bright colored flowers, and
exotic plants. The agriculture here is nothing less than how you picture it. One plant the forest
produces that is a common favorite, is the coconut tree. The palms grow rapidly so they can
consume the most sun possible. The spreading of the seeds help species with daily survival.
Another plant that really catches the eye is the Hot Lips. It is a vibrant red colored flower that
lives under the canopy in the rainforest. Birds are attracted to the flower by its bright color. This
brings them to pollinate and disperse seeds. My personal favorite is the passion flower. This is a
pink, yellow, maroon, and white blossom that grows with the vines in the canopy. It gets the name
passion because of the rings of nectar. The ring of nectar looks like the crown of thorns that Jesus

Blackberry Picking is a short poem consisting of two uneven stanzas; brief and concise. The poet
s use of flashback is to give context and insight of his life back at the farm. The length of the
poem does not take away from the experience as the poet is able to successfully express not only a
literal description of picking berries but the intensity in doing so. Although the poet portrays intense
longing through varied use of figurative language he is devoid from the intricacies of style and
structure on how the poem is overall presented. To be able to understand the poet s purpose, one

The vivid imagery and intimate language used to convey the intensive labor also creates
ambiguity because the poet explicitly describes his experience without elaboration. This is all

mountain. The words came from Jack viciously as thought they were a curse (119). Jack cannot
keep his id in check causing him to have this emotional outburst at the mountain. Additionally,
Jack s id solely care about his pleasure which is reflected when Jack talks about hunting for the

I believe that Kamala was talking about Siddhartha, because he thought that Siddhartha had already

essence of time was, and was in full enlightenment.
Siddhartha is an intriguing book to read, because of the life story and experiences of Siddhartha.
Information about what happens to Siddhartha s son, is something that I would like to know. I
wish the story would have ended with Govinda reaching enlightenment, with Siddhartha s
guidance. The plot of the story has many ups and downs, but ends in a very positive aspect. Two
questions still remain, what will happen to Siddhartha s son and will Govinda ever reach
