Analysis Of The Book Mud Slinger By Jacob Riis
This section of a book was composed by Jacob Riis, who was a muckraking columnist. Mud slinger
was a writer who pushed for change by productions the issues of society to the center and rich classes.
In this book, Riis made a photographic report about the life of needy individuals in the dwellings of
New York.
Initially, Riis portrayed an assault, which was made by policemen. The object of that strike was the
stale brew plunges. He said that the squads sent to make concurrent control on all tramp s sanctuary in
the territory. After that, they got a few tramps and sent them to the police headquarters. At that point,
Riis depicted a room of one dwelling. There was grimy floor, broken seat, and numerous things that it
shouldn t in the memory of the man. In that place, there was a gathering of destitute individuals. The
policemen broke into that room and encompassed those individuals. There was a thirteen man in that
messy room. The police took them and went to another area. In another area, the policemen
discovered seventy five men and ladies and captured them in four little rooms. When they did a
reversal to the police headquarters, there were two hundred seventy five tramps, who were caught by
policemen, pressed them into gatherings to be charged in the police court. He said that the tramps may
be sent to an island for six months. After that, he portrayed the general population s life here which
known as the curve . He said that an offer of stale brew activity has left

Challenges Facing Canadian Organizations
Canada. They are the world s largest producer of newsprint, nickel, and asbestos. Montreal, Toronto,
and Vancouver are rated some of the best cities in the world. There is also Canadian Broadcasting
Corporation (CBC), which bring us Canadians radio and television broadcasts the news, music, and
entertainment. (Schwind, 2010, p. 3)
Even though Canada is a leader and a top competitor around the world in regards to business,
resources, talent, and innovation, there are still many challenges facing Canadian organizations. In this
paper I will discuss the many ways that Canada, from a business stand point and as whole, faces
challenges and what we as a country are doing to rise and succeed through these challenges. There are

Not only is there internet, many companies also have intranet, which are a private information
network within the company. The mix of telecommunicating and intranet increase communication and
information knowledge between members of an organization to also increase productivity. Automation
is the automatically controlled operation of a process, system, or equipment by mechanical or
electronic devices. The two major reasons for automation is speed and better service. In some capital
equipment items, Canada takes six to twelve months to make, where Japan takes six to twelve weeks.
(Schwind, 2010, p. 10) This is a major challenge that Canada must face. The service factor is
continuous. A machine is programed to do the same exact operation over and over to ensure quality
and effectiveness, where as a human might make an error on one or more areas of the operation.
Another challenge with technology and automation is cost. Machines are expensive and not all
companies can afford the high tech equipment, and therefore must rely on manual labour.
Demographic challenges include the changes associated with the labour force, such as education
levels, age, and participation levels which occur slowly and are usually known in advance. The
number of female workers in the workforce has greatly increased over the last three decades, and with
that so has the way organizations are ran. In the past the men worked and the women stayed home and

Daniel Williams Interrogated
Four U.S navy sailors were accused of murdering and raping Michelle Moore Bosko. All four of them
confessed of a crime they did not commit. A friend of Michelle Moore Bosko informed the police that
Danial Williams was interested in killing women (Bikel, 2010) . Later in the day, Danial Williams was
detained. Robert Glen Ford interrogated Williams, believing that he was in fact guilty. He had a goal
that he wanted Williams to confess. Though, Glenn Ford was known as an intimidating person, who
will get people to confess (Bikel, 2010).After eleven hours of interrogations, Williams confessed of a
crime he did not do (Bikel, 2010). He was then asked to tell the story of how he murdered Michelle,
and he started narrating a story he made up out of fear. For Months, Ford believed that Williams was
guilty of the crime. However, months later, Williams DNA test results came to serve as an evidence of
his innocent. However, Glenn Ford did not believe that Williams was innocent; he believed that
Williams roommate Joe Dick was guilty of the crime as well. Therefore, Joe Dick was arrested and
interrogated by Detective Glenn Ford, making him confess of the same crime. Joe Dick s DNA was
inconsistent with the evidence .Therefore, he was interrogated much more, until he gave his friends

Most of the times suspects are placed in dark rooms where they are unable to see sunlight for many
hours. The room is usually empty, making it seem very isolated and having no way out. This plays a
big role due to the fact that most of people don t want to be in a small room where law enforcers are
yelling in their face, calling them names and making them feel worthless. Once bringing the suspect
self esteem down it is very easy for the interrogator to manipulate the suspect, making him or her

Building Healthy Society
The peoples of the dominant human societies lost their sense of attachment to the living earth, and
societies became divided between the rulers and the ruled, exploiters and exploited. The brutal
competition for power created a relentless play or die, rule or be ruled dynamic of violence and
oppression and served to elevate the most ruthless to the highest positions of power. Since the fateful
turn, the major portion of the resources available to human societies has been diverted from meeting
the needs of life to supporting the military forces, prisons, palaces, temples, and patronage for
retainers and propagandists on which the system of domination in turn depends. Great civilizations
built by ambitious rulers fell to successive waves of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Over a lifetime, those who enjoy the requisite emotional support traverse a pathway from the
narcissistic, undifferentiated magical consciousness of the newborn to the fully mature, inclusive, and
multidimensional spiritual consciousness of the wise elder. The lower, more narcissistic, orders of
consciousness are perfectly normal for young children, but become sociopathic in adults and are easily
encouraged and manipulated by advertisers and demagogues. The higher orders of consciousness are a
necessary foundation of mature democracy. Perhaps Empire s greatest tragedy is that its cultures and
institutions systematically suppress our progress to the higher orders of consciousness.
Given that Empire has prevailed for 5,000 years, a turn from Empire to Earth Community might seem
a hopeless fantasy if not for the evidence from values surveys that a global awakening to the higher
levels of human consciousness is already underway. This awakening is driven in part by a
communications revolution that defies elite censorship and is breaking down the geographical barriers
to intercultural exchange.
The consequences of the awakening are manifest in the civil rights, women s, environmental, peace,
and other social movements. These movements in turn gain energy from the growing leadership of
women, communities of color, and indigenous peoples, and from a shift in the

Peace In The Middle East Rhetorical Analysis
Peace in the Middle East: A Speech on the Israel Palestine Conflict
Imagine a world where you were shot, your parents were arrested, and your home was spied on. This
is the everyday life of Palestinian girl Ahed Tamimi. According to her father, she and her brother have
been shot, her mother has been arrested five times, and he has been arrested nine times. Their house is
under a demolition order. All of this due to one thing: Israeli oppression of Palestinian citizens. In
reaction for Ahed s family being maltreated, in December, she slapped a soldier which was live
streamed on Facebook by her mother. She bruised the soldier s brow, and caused no further harm. She
was swiftly arrested by the Israeli government and left with 12 charges. After ... Show more content

The conflict does affect us at home, and exposes parts of our own Nationalism. Although it has seen
the US s hypocrisy exposed, it also shows that the Two State plan that calls for Israel and Palestine to
exist side by side has been secretly opposed by the United States for a long while, that information not
coming to light until recently with President Trump embracing a One State plan as well. When, in
2011, the Palestinian president put in a request to the United Nations for membership, a step towards
Palestine s true goal of acquiring stateship, the US was very vocal about vetoing the decision if it
managed to reach a decision in favour of Palestine. In the end, A majority vote was not reached, but
Palestine was upgraded to a non member observer state in a vote of 138 9, with the United States
being one of the few along with Israel. Despite saying that it was a leading nation in facilitating peace
between the two, and in 90 s actually being such, as soon as the Bush administration took over things
fell apart. The Palestinian president, a violence objecting, peace willing man who was a frequent
visitor to the White House, was labeled as a terrorist by President Bush. Bush called for a new
president, who was elected within a month. At this point, the administration s machinations were
revealed the Palestinian support was nothing more

Winter Blast Short Story
You know that moment when you cross the finish line and the adrenaline and excitement rushes over
you? And in the moment you think to yourself, Because I persevered, I accomplished my goals. That
is exactly how I felt two years ago when I crossed my finish line... It started on a chilly February
morning at my church s Youth Camp Retreat, called Winter Blast . My friends had tried to persuade
me all morning to climb the two story ropes course, in the barn at the top of the hill.
Come on Amanda, how do you know you won t like it unless you try it? Nora asked as she pulled on
her tennis shoes.
I just know, I m terrified of heights and I don t want to fall, I protested back as I crawled out of bed.
After more persuasion and pleading I eventually gave in, and we exited our cabin and headed towards
the hill. My nerves grew by the second as I neared the giant opening. We gazed upward as we entered
the barn. Climbers of all shapes and sizes were many stories up, climbing through the obstacle
courses.
The barn was cold and dim lighted. The musty smell of the barn filled my nostrils. It made me feel as
though I had entered a Haunted House. People screamed as the ropes above shook with the wind being
brought in through the holes in the wall.
New climbers head this way! Shouted a voice to the right. I turned and followed my group of friends
over to the man talking.
After all of the climbers were in a half circle around the man, he began speaking. My name is Westley
and I will be your harness instructor. Wesley spoke about all the safety rules you need to know in
order to climb; things like how to attach your harness to the overhead ropes and how to climb up to
the next story.
After all of the rules were shared and everyone got their harnesses on, we were released to go up to the
first story of obstacle courses. My heart pounded in my chest as I neared the rope ladder going up to
the first level. I took a deep breath.
Amanda you can do this, I mumbled to myself as I put my hand on the rope ladder. I slowly climbed
higher and higher until I reached the top rung. I took another deep breath and climbed onto the
platform. As I stood up, a climbing instructor attached my harness clamps to the overhead rope.

Mary Of Arc And Amelia Earhart
During the course of history there have not been many warrior women. Helen of Troy, Joan of Arc and
Amelia Earhart are few of the women that we can consider warrior women. In todays society warrior
women run Fortune 500 companies, hold important seats in politics, are inventors in technology and in
science which were thought to be male dominate professions. Warrior women have sacrificed a lot to
be part of the elite group. Warrior women have sacrificed many of their feminine values instead of
conforming to what is expected of them. A warrior woman is someone who can defend their feminine
values without giving up on their aspirations. (Are)Warrior women play many roles and achieve
greatness in all that she does because she will stand up and fight for what she believes in and will be
constantly pushing for change in relation to the position of women in our society. A warrior woman
possesses as much strength, determination and courage as any man. Amelia Earhart was a warrior
woman who was willing to fight for what she believed in and prove that she would be able to do what
any man could do. (Are) In today s society women are considered equal to men. During the course of
time progression in gender equality has become more evident. Women of the past like Amelia Earhart
have influenced today s evolution of the warrior woman.

Music Of The 60s Help Shape Modern Australian Society
In what ways did music in the 60s help shape modern Australian society People today are still living
off the table scraps of the sixties. They are still being passed around the music and the ideas. This was
pronounced by Bob Dylan, a folk musician of the sixties: an era in which the music heavily influenced
the culture of the time and continues to influence the music and culture today. The music and artists of
the 60s influenced radio and television, the music, fashion and lifestyles of the people, particularly
youth, heavily influenced the popular culture Australia, USA, Britain and other Western Countries.

instrumental surf rock music with lyrics more about cars and girls to appeal to teenaged boys. The
influences of the surf music that came out in the 60s can be seen in today s surf music, with bands
such as The Break, Los Fantasticos, and The Sharkskins clearly expressing the likes of 60s surf
musician Dick Dale. By mid 60s, the rock n roll stars including Elvis Presley, Johnny Horton, Lloyd
Price and other acts that were popular earlier in the decade and the previous decade and even the
newer surf music began to be overtaken by the British bands that emerged and dominated the charts.
The British Invasion acts include Beatles, The Animals, The Who, Herman s Hermits, Tom Jones, and
Donovan. By the late 1960s, the American psychedelic and acid rock movements had filtered into
Australia. This type of music then evolved into progressive rock and other genres of music that are
still popular today. Music has always been the barometer

Essay on Abolishing Corporal Punishment in the United...
Corporal punishment is a discipline method in which an administering adult inflicts pain upon a
student (usually using a paddle) in response to a student s offensive behavior. Nowadays regulations
have been created as to how many swats can be inflicted, by whom, and with what instrument. It is
still used in many U.S. schools as a disciplinary method against disobedient or defiant students.
Although corporal punishment is no longer tolerated in the military, prisons, or mental institutions, 21
states still allow corporal punishment in full or in part according to the U.S. Department of Education.
Every year, more than 223,190 students are being subjected to this particular form of punishment in

Not only are such messages thought to be wrong themselves, but it is claimed that they are repeated by
the children who are hit. In the short term, those who are physically punished are alleged to commit
violence against other children, against teachers and against school property. As far as long term
effects are concerned, it is alleged that significant numbers of people who commit crimes were
physically punished as children. It is these arguments that lie behind the saying violence breeds
violence. All forms of corporal punishment in schools must be banned given that all violence must be
banned in schools and all corporal punishment influences violence in schools. (CS) Just because an
official is promoting violence, instead of a student, does not make it okay.
Punishing a student with violence is taking the easy way out of the situation. It is like putting a Band
Aid over a cut for the quick and easy fix. It may be a way to create an immediate response, but it is
inhumane and for lack of a better word, lazy. So this leaves us with a choice; either we continue taking
the quick fix , or we take action by permanently abolishing corporal punishment. No one wants to treat
children, the future of our country, with just a quick fix that ca hurt them in the long run .(DS) So we
need to confront the problem head on by taking action and finding other means of punishment.

Response to Tracy Chapman, Cold Feet
Reading Response 3 Title: Cold Feet Author: Tracy Chapman Category: Song Lyrics The song Cold
Feet by Tracy Chapman is an inspirational song about how our wants and needs can drive us to not
only success but also to our graves. The song which was released in 1995 describes the story of how
one man had everything he could have dreamt for in life, love, a roof over his head and a loving wife.
But naturally in the society we live in not only today in the 21st century but also the society that was

honest man, Proud that the dirt on his palms was the soil of the land, but some guys he knew from

Social Media And Content Plan For Euclides
Social Media Content Plan for Euclides
Since successful social media and content plans are intertwined, this brief plan highlights the main
recommendations for both areas and offers tactical objectives for content creation and social media.
Current Status:
Euclides has a solid presence on Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn, as well as an active blog on their
website. They post quality information, on a consistent basis, and have a respectable following.
Engagement is consistent with what many SMB B2B companies see using social media. Euclides also
has a YouTube channel and incorporates video in a strategic fashion. Although Euclides has a strong

d. Superior service. We recommend continuing to use case studies as an excellent vehicle to educate
your followers on the quality of your services.
e. Build relationships. One of the important aspects of Social Media is building relationships with
followers, important groups and influencers. We recommend creating a list of target press, analysts,
customer groups, industry groups, partners and other influencers. One of the key goals is to start
conversations and create/nurture interest in your skills and services. This is a key area where we
recommend some additional strategies. While social media can generate some B2B leads, its strongest
potential lies in helping to nurture leads and move them down the funnel.
Content Recommendations:
Euclides has a solid foundation of original and curated content that covers the technical, service and
business advantages Euclides offers. There is a good mix of blog posts, white papers, e books and
thought leadership content. Euclides is already doing a great job using catchy titles and tips content.
We see a couple of areas for improvement.
1. Adding case study metrics. While Euclides has some great case studies, we recommend trying to
tease out additional information, when possible, about tangible benefits. For example, Company A
estimates that it reduced customer wait times by 20%... , Customer

Essay on Sexuality and Sexual Identity
Sexuality and Sexual Identity
Alfred C. Kinsey argued in 1948 that It would encourage clearer thinking on these matters [of labeling
homosexuals] if persons were not characterized as heterosexual or homosexual, but as individuals who
have had certain amounts of heterosexual experience and homosexual experience. Instead of using
these terms as substantives (real and apparent entities) which stand for persons, #8230;they may be
better used to describe the nature of overt sexual relations, or of the stimuli to which an individual

The reinforcement of gender roles and boundaries through societal constructs is shown in Woodhouse
s discussion of transvestites or cross dressers. Cross dressing heterosexual men (dressing in women s
clothing) pose a threat to traditional society that presents male and female gender categories as
immutable categories that have no room for malleability. On a social and cultural level the two groups
(male and female) are mutually exclusive #8230; (Woodhouse, p. 117). This is maintained and strictly
enforced in our male dominant society through approval of masculinity and disapproval of femininity.
Outside of the closely demarcated boundaries of the drag act or the fancy dress party, men cannot
appear in any item of women s clothing without immediate loss of the superior status attached to the
male and the full imposition of ridicule and censure (Woodhouse, p. 119). We see examples of this
ridicule from very early childhood and adolescence with boys being scorned and called a sissy for
playing with dolls or expressing feminine traits which are reserved for the secondary, inferior female
role and should be eradicated (Woodhouse, p. 119). There is a vice grip on the primacy of masculinity
which refuses to let go of pointing out that which is not masculine, and giving it a value. Any man
who is effeminate cannot be heterosexual, there must be something wrong with him

The first sign miracles Jesus performed were when he had gone to a wedding in Cana John 2:1 12).
Jesus and his disciples (6 of them) had arrived at the wedding, which was already in progress. This
miracle symbolizes the Church s (the bride s) relationship to Christ (The bridegroom). Mary, Jesus
mother was at the wedding as well. She went to Jesus and told him that they had run out of wine.
Mary probable was related to the bride because a wedding in Galilee was a family affair, and female s

After what the people had seen Jesus do they said that truly this is the prophet the one prophesied by
Moses (Deut. 18:15), to come into the world. There is a lesson in the Leftover. God gives in
abundance.
The fifth miracle performed by Jesus: Jesus walking on the water. Later that evening the disciples got
into a boat and sailed on the Sea of Galilee toward Capernaum. The wind was blowing and the water
became rough. They had rowed three or three and a half mile out into the sea, they saw Jesus
approaching the boat walking on the water. The Disciple were frightened, but Jesus said, It is I; do not
be afraid. Jesus shows his deity in this statement because He used the Jewish designation of Yahweh, I
AM and his power over natural laws.
Healing of a blind man sixth miracle performed by Jesus. When a person is saved, he/she gains a new
ability to see and understand the things of God (1Corinthians 2:14 15). The Disciple asks Jesus who
sinned this man or his parents. Jesus replied neither the man nor his parents he was born blind. This
happened so the work God can do a miracle in his life. Jesus healed the man in an unusual way. Jesus
spit on the ground and made mud to repair the man eyes, Jesus was working with original materials.
Jesus put the mud on the man eyes and told him to go wash in the Pool of Siloam. When the man
washed in the Pool of Siloam the man was healed. Jesus demonstrates his power over physical laws.

All Things Being Equal Essay
All Things Being Equal
Most of us have heard Martin Luther King s I Have a Dream speech, or part of it, at some point in our
lives. In 1964, one year after the speech was given, Lyndon B. Johnson signed Executive Order 11246,
which signaled the birth of affirmative action. Affirmative action refers to efforts to increase
educational and employment opportunities for minorities and women. In November, 1997, California
voters did away with affirmative action [at the state level] by passing proposition 209. They were
convinced that it was no longer needed, that it gave minorities and women special rights. Governor
Pete Wilson wrote in 1996 as part of his campaign against affirmative action:

We are struggling over crumbs because we know that the bigger part hs been received by the elites in
corporate America. (Brunk 331)
An example of this fighting over crumbs is the California proposition 209. White people felt they were
not getting jobs, scholarships, into college, because the jobs, scholarships, etc., were being given to
less qualified people of color. Some people of color were also against affirmative action because they
didn t feel like they made it on their own accord but were hired or admitted to college, etc., because of
their skin color and not because of their merits. This inferiority complex is shared by Richard
Rodriguez, an American essayist and teacher. According to the biographical sketches in Literacies,
Despite his academic success, Rodriguez left the university partly because he was uncomfortable with
advantages he felt he received because of his minority status. (Brunk 697)
To understand affirmative action we must look back in history. According to Cornel West,The
fundamental aim of affirmative action was to put a significant dent in the tightly controlled networks
of privileged white citizens who monopolized the good jobs and influential positions in American
society. (Curry 32)
Affirmative action is not about

Ansel Adams Photographer and Artist Essay example
Ansel Adams photographer and artist
Until the 19th century most artwork was created in a two or three dimensional media. In England,
William Fox discovered a technique that allowed camera images to be captured on paper. This
medium has evolved since Fox s discovery in 1839 to a serious and viable form of art today.
Photography allows the artist to capture what he sees. The image produced is reality to the artists eye,
it can only be manipulated with light and angles.
The photograph is a very powerful medium. The French painter Paul Delaroche exclaimed upon
seeing an early photograph from now on, painting is dead! (Sayre, 2000). Many critics did not take
photography seriously as a legitimate art form until the 20th century. With ... Show more content on

Adams decision to be a full time photographer changed the photographic visions of the west. He spent
his time in National parks photographing the immense beauty of nature in these national treasures.
Adams formed a group with other San Francisco photographers in 1932 called f/64, referring to the

The group translated scale and detail into organic, sometimes abstract design (Jacobs, 1995).
In 1935, Adams published his first book, Making a Photograph. Six years later, his Zone System was
formulated. The Zone System introduced a way for the professional and amateur photographers to
determine and control the exposure and development of prints for maximum visual acuity (Jacobs,
1995). The Zone System marked his first efforts at public education on photography.
Adams felt a sense of duty to share his knowledge of nature and photography. [Adams] was master

generations twenty five years after his death. Adams was an experimenter and a modernist with his

Fear And The Forced Evacuation
Fear and the Forced Evacuation of the Japanese Americans How do explain something that is
completely in the wrong as ok? Why can people, organizations and even governments make irrational
decision over and over again? The United States prides itself on it s ability to be a free country and
support freedom of religion and freedom of speech but throughout history their are numerous accounts
of the United States going against it s own beliefs and treating it s people in terrible ways. One
example of the United States going against it s pride in equality and rhetoric of democracy and acting
in ways of exclusion and inequality is during World War II when the United States forced evacuation
of the Japanese to internment camps. The memoir, Looking ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

When they pulled the nearly 120,000 Japanese Americans the government was acting on fear. The
government was not only scared of a future attack but also the government feared the difference in
cultures. The Japanese lifestyle was significantly different than they popular American lifestyle. The
Japanese did speak a different language and did believe in a different religion. They ate different foods
and played different games. Many did strive to enjoy the ways of American culture as well, I grew up
playing hopscotch and jacks, learning kendo and ikebana. I studied U.S. history at school and
Japanese on Saturday. For breakfast I ate scrambled eggs and mochi. Dinner could include fried
chicken and sushi, (11). The Japanese strived to be both but the government devastatingly didn t
understand. The government feared the different culture and beliefs and their possibilities they had for
the country. Most Japanese were highly productive, successful people in whatever work they pursued.
As a result they became the brunt of some non Japanese people s fears, envy and prejudice. The war
provided the excuse for removing the Japanese from the West Coast and to eliminate competition and
literally take over whatever gains the Japanese had made, (92). Placing the Japanese Americans into
interment camps proved the governments fear of the Japanese culture even though the

Essay about The Psychology of Social Media
Living in the 21st century requires one to stay current with latest technological advancements. Ever
since the development of social networking sites, people are now able to create a carefully crafted
identity for themselves. This has led psychologists to question how well these online personalities
match the person in front of the computer. The innovative branch of media psychology looks into how
social networking portrays individuals and initiates human interactions within a society.
A basic question is how well are people able to get to know each other through social networking
sites? In a research study, Psychster Inc. explored characteristics of profile pictures and their
association with impression. Using a specially designed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gosling polled the group using a standard Five Factor model personality test which measured
extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, emotional stability, and openness to new experiences
(Steele, Evans, Green, 2008). Then researchers rated the same subjects based solely on their Facebook
profiles, which usually included pictures and lists of interests.
The researchers found a correlation between assessments in four of the five categories. Gosling was
not surprised that emotional stability was the only attribute showing no significant results across
personal and online assessments because it is a quality that people are good at concealing across most
media (Wilson, 2007). Although the extroversion category showed the highest correlation, research
suggests that openness to new experience is perhaps exhibited better online than in person.
Judith Donath, an associate professor at the Media Laboratory at MIT who reviewed Gosling s
research, divides the content of social networking sites into signals and unintended cues. According to
Donath, Facebook users do not intend to share super personal information on their profiles. People
who happen to share a personal status update might be perceived as over sharing without meaning to
(Wilson, 2007).
According to psychologist John Suler and his idea of The Online Disinhibition Effect , some people,
while online, self disclose or act differently than they would

Cause And Effects Of The San Francisco Earthquake
The San Francisco earthquake on April 18, 1906 was one of the most devastating earthquakes felt by a
lot of states. At 5:15 am, this earthquake which registered at 8.25 on the Richter Scale shook San
Francisco, California. The earthquake lasted less than a minute and it did a lot of destruction in that
period of time. The most destructive part during the San Francisco earthquake was the fires which
began after, as a result of the earthquake. The fires killed about 3,000 people and left 400,000
homeless (San Francisco Earthquake). The San Francisco earthquake epicenter was located near San
Andreas fault and as a result, the damages caused by the earthquake was felt many miles along the San
Andreas fault line. The city of San Francisco was known for its culture and economy, and because of
the impact of the earthquake and fire, the city was in total disaster. Because of the magnitude of the
earthquake and the amount of damage it did to the city of San Francisco, a lot of data and digital
images have been collected so that it can be used for references and be displayed at its anniversary. ...

The earthquake was located on the San Andreas fault which is a seismic zone between two of the earth
s tectonic plates. Seismic events which occur is caused as a result of the earth s tectonic plates moving
against each other and this can cause huge earthquakes and volcanoes ( Young ). The transform
boundary passes through California and this is where the Pacific and North American plates move past
each other without colliding. The event in which this occurred was the San Andreas fault ( Young ).
When the plates move past each other and the resistance builds up, this causes an earthquake like the
1906 San Francisco earthquake. This earthquake caused a separation and displacement in the

Merapi Informative Speech
Today I am going to be talking about Mt Merapi. Mt Merapi is found on an island called Indonesia, It
is an active Stratovolcano and has been erupting constantly since 1548. The eruption of this volcano
that I will be focusing on would be when it had an outbreak on October 25th in the year 2010. Before
it erupted there was an earthquake that killed 5000 people. After the earthquake the impact of the
volcanic event killed more than 353 people.
The causes of Mt Merapi resulted into an earthquake, due to the indo Australian plate being subducted
beneath the Eurasian plate, causes a huge amount of heat generated. The cause of the plates being
subducted is due to convection currents when the Magma warms and rises, it allows cooler magma to

E.E. Cummings and His Wondrous Works
Edward Estlin Cummings was born on October 14, 1894 in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Cummings
began writing his poems as early as ten years old. His unique ideas and various poetic devices that
were included in his poetry induced him to be one of the most remembered poets of modern day time.
E.E. Cummings was an intriguing poet that is known for many poetic ideas. Among them, Cummings
was known for his ability to create meaning using structure and his avant garde approach towards
language. In his work, Cummings experimented radically with form, punctuation, spelling and syntax,
which caused him to abandon traditional techniques and structures to create a new, highly distinctive
mean of poetic expression. By introducing this new innovative writing style, Cummings has
influenced thousands of poets to carry on with his expression, which is what he had hoped for.
The wide range of writing style that Cummings included while composing his poems gave him the
title of originality. While some of his poetry is free verse (with no concern for rhyme or meter), many
have a recognizable sonnet structure of 14 lines, with an intricate rhyme scheme. E.E. Cummings
poem, Fame Speaks, is an example of one of his more formal poems. The rhyme scheme is an
example of a petrarchan sonnet. The sonnet Fame Speaks talks about how E.E. Cummings wants to be
remembered as a great poet and not forgotten in the future. On the other hand, a number of his poems
feature a typographically cheerful style,

Leading Causes of Poverty , and income disparity which is leading to many families to not be able to

about not being able to participate in recreational activities, not being able to send children on a day

Rose Stein Analysis
Stein s poetics, especially her tender buttons works, is engrossed with many repetitions. Initially, with
prior knowledge, the power of repetition was understood. When imitating Steins, it demonstrated the
power of repetition. In tender buttons, however, Stein proses creative poems on simple, domesticated
objects such as food. With this repetition in her food pieces, it allows the readers to hear the word or
phrase in different angles. By doing so, the reader then examines the word or phrase in a way that was
not originally thought of, shedding a new meaning to the word or phrase. Not only, does the repetition
allow for examining new meanings of the word, but also re illuminating a word that has become a
cliché which is evident in her poem rose . At first glance, the poem seems to have no creativity and
seems absurd. When reading the poem, however, it allowed for the reader to hear the phonemic
sounds, illuminating the word once again. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Organizational Structure Process Of Organizational...
Organizational changes include, but are not limited to mergers, acquisitions, affiliations, and
consolidations, which affect the roles of the governing bodies, professional staff organizers, senior
level managers and the chief executive officer in differing ways. The GBs of an organization play an
instrumental role in the modification process of organizational ownership and control. One of the core
responsibilities of the GB is to represent, balance, preserve, and advance the interests of its various
stakeholders in the entity (Longest Darr, 2000, pg.68). The various stakeholders include employees,
shareholders, the government and the surrounding community of the organization. Board members are
obligated to act in good faith and use their authority to promote the best interests of the stakeholders
and the organization they govern (Kazemek, 2009). Furthermore, it is necessary for GBs to exercise
their fiduciary duty to preserve the organization s long‐term goals and to sustain the mission that it has
originally played a part in formulating. In this context, a fiduciary responsibility is one of trust; it
means that one acts to the best of one s ability in the interest of another, not in self interest; GBs act on
behalf of the stakeholders (Schyve, 2009).
During a change in organizational ownership and control, GBs must transcend their typical role.
Initially, the GBs must assess the readiness of the organization in participating in an organizational
change. For example,

Big Bang Theory is a humorous drama based on situations that might arise in day to day life,
otherwise known as a situational comedy. The television show is based on the social lives of four
friends who are professors, and socially classed as Nerds. It is presumptuous on first encounter that
the show will present with all the similarities of the 80 s hit movies Revenge of the Nerds. In fact,
their daily interactions mimic those fashioned as such. They exemplify social awkwardness, sexual
failure and mathematical intelligence, all characteristics of a nerd, discussed in a thesis done by
Marina Kunert (p. 1). The lack of social skills, which often leads to clashes between them and other

Penny being a part of Big Bang Theory brings common sense and social interaction into their
otherwise, socially disconnected environment. The series starts with Penny, the attractive neighbor,

relationship. However, they all seem to form a circle of friendship. Idealized images of relationships
can create a more positive image about relationships (Kunert, p. 11). The link between two people can
shift from being friends to being lovers and vice versa. On the Big Bang Theory, Leonard and Penny
become friends first for a long time before becoming lovers. After breaking up they remain friends.
Big Bang Theory has exceeded the expectations of many. It is definitely not what people thought it

The reason the company bought these risky loans was because they have a much higher interest rate.
Rather than paying 3.53 or 4% interest on a home loan these people were forced to pay almost double
that, between 6 and 7%. The conflict of interest arose from the fact that Freddie Mac was the one
whom the recipients of these loans had to try to get refinancing from. They did not want to refinance
the high interest mortgages into lower interest ones. This caused them to have a conflict of interest.
They were not interested in helping people to save their homes because they were making money off

interest rate loan and create a new loan with more affordable prices. Freddie Mac refused to help these

Our Knowledge Of Living Things Increases Essay
As our knowledge of living things increases, as we come to a deeper understanding of their life cycles,
their interactions with other organisms, and the manifold ways in which they adjust to the
environment, we become more fully aware of how each of them is carrying out its biological functions
according to the laws of its species specific nature. But besides this, our increasing knowledge and
understanding also develop in us a sharpened awareness of the uniqueness of each individual
organism. Scientists who have made careful studies of particular plants and animals, whether in the
field or in laboratories, have often acquired a knowledge of their subjects as identifiable individuals.
Close observation over extended periods of time has led them to an appreciation of the unique
personalities of their subjects. Sometimes a scientist may come to take a special interest in a particular
animal or plant, all the while remaining strictly objective in the gathering and recording of data.
Nonscientists may likewise experience this development of interest when, as amateur naturalists, they
make accurate observations over sustained periods of close acquaintance with an individual organism.
As one becomes more and more familiar with the organism and its behavior, one becomes fully
sensitive to the particular way it is living out its life cycle. One may become fascinated by it and even
experience some involvement with its good and bad fortunes (that is, with the occurrence of

Eccles Mining Disaster
Mining has historically been one of the most important industries in West Virginia. It s so important to

s difficult to imagine the miners didn t see the possibility of an explosion every day they went to work
in the mines. Perhaps they did and they still went, aware of the possibility but going anyway because
their families needed to eat. This essay will explore what happened in Eccles mining disaster of 1914.
There were only 1500 people in Eccles, a West Virginia town where almost everyone was a miner. We
depend economy on the continuation of the coal mines. Eccles coal mine was owned by the

the second most disastrous explosion of all time.
The miners in Eccles used a new invention called the carbide lamp. It worked better than the oil wick
lamps used before 1910 and seemed safer besides the unique odor of the acetylene gas emitted by the
lamps. On April 28, 1914, the day of the Ecles mining disaster, the flame on one of these lamps met

Let An Atlanta Truck Accident Attorney Help Protect Your Rights! According to the National

in traffic collisions in the United States during 2013. From the data collected by the NHTSA, seventy
one percent of truck accident fatalities were people in other vehicles and seventy two percent of the
injuries were sustained by occupants of other vehicles. This disparity between truck drivers and
occupants of other vehicles is likely caused by the difference in weight and size between commercial
trucks and passenger vehicles. During a collision, the force of the impact from a commercial truck can

The trucking industry is governed by complex federal laws and regulations. You need an experienced
Atlanta truck accident lawyer who understands trucking regulations and laws to protect your right to a

airplanes) that record critical information such as speed and braking immediately prior to a collision.
If you do not hire an attorney with experience handling large truck accident claims, your attorney may
fail to take quick action to protect the evidence on the truck s black box. This could be the evidence
you need to prove the truck driver was at fault for the collision. You must prove fault in order to
receive compensation for your injuries. Furthermore, insurance companies for the trucking industry
aggressively defend truck accident claims because large truck accident claims are usually quite
substantial. Therefore, insurance companies have teams of professionals who immediately begin
investigating the case to limit the company s liability. Aggressive insurance adjusters and investigators
pursue accident victims to attempt to obtain evidence to use against them or pressure them into

when it comes to voting in the United States of America. This Amendment was ratified on February 3,
1870 after the civil war and was met by a flurry of great full voters and scornful American citizens.
Racism has been a problem in America since its founding and, despite common misconception, is still

Analysis Of The Centntaur By May Swenson
In May Swenson s poem The Centaur, she talks about a little girl that uses her enormous mind to
imagine herself transforming into a horse. The girl is in a whole new world of her imagination as she
rides through the hills of her backyard. Swenson allows readers to take part in the transformation from
human to horse that the adolescent girl described undergoes, thus emphasizing the importance of
childhood and imagination on the woman s identity and how strong and intelligent they could be.
In the poem, May uses the Greek mythological creature, the Centaur, as a symbol of the girl
pretending to ride the horse and then became the horse himself. A centaur is a half man half horse
creature. Centaurs are strong creatures they stand for being strong, brave, and they have a hard identity
which reflects the girl s identity of having all these characteristics. Swenson makes it seem as though
the girl herself is a Centaur. Words and phrases like: my hair flopped to the side like the mane of a
horse (line 29 to 30), I shied and skittered and reared (line 33), I was the horse and the rider (line 38),
spanked my own behind (line 40 ), and my two hoofs beat a gallop along the bank (line 41 to 42 ) . All
these symbolize that the girl is imagining being a horse and a human at the same time like a centaur. At
the end when her mother said: why is your mouth all green ? (line 71 ) it shows how the girl has a very
high level of imagination that while she was imagining to be a horse she

History Of GLAAD
HISTORY
GLAAD was formerly known as the Gay Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation.[i] It was
founded in New York City in 1985 by Vito Russo, Jewelle Gomez and George Kolovakos.[ii]
GLAAD is a media monitoring agency that seeks to promote and protect issues affecting the
Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) community.
The organization was originally founded in response to the New York Post s homophobic and
defamatory coverage of the AIDS epidemic, which was at its height in the 1980 s. Initially,
AIDS was closely linked with gay men within the American psychology.[iii] The first time that
AIDS was detected in the United States was in 1981, when groups of men in New York and
Los Angeles were diagnosed with Kaposi s sarcoma and pneumocystis pneumonia.[iv] The
media had labeled it as a gay disease. Based upon the statistics compiled by the Center for
Disease Control, the AIDS virus disproportionately impacted gay men at a time when
Americans had an extremely negative attitude towards homosexuality. [I]t was perhaps
inevitable that AIDS would be defined in political and cultural terms as well as medically, and
that many heterosexuals reactions to AIDS would reflect their attitudes toward
homosexuality. [v]
Thus, the coverage of homosexuals was extremely sensationalized and a topic that was not
generally discussed as a societal norm within the mainstream media. Nonetheless, due to the
hard work of its pioneering members, GLAAD enjoyed several early

Organization s Internal Control Integrated Framework
The Committee of Sponsoring Organization s Internal Control Integrated Framework is a study that
establishes a common definition of internal control so as to meet the needs of various parties and it
provides a standard in which organizations can use to assess their control systems and determine if
and how to improve them. Since internal control is a process and addresses the achievement of
objectives, not all controls are relevant to an audit; the controls that may affect the reliability of
financial reporting are relevant to an audit.
In order for an audit of internal control to be performed in accordance with PCAOB requirements, the
auditors overall approach should consist of five stages. The first stage is the planning of the ... Show

Having a board of directors or audit committee oversee the company s financial reports helps prevent
management override of controls and management fraud, thus aiding in the effectiveness of internal
control.
Risk assessment contributes to effective internal control by allowing management to identify, analyze,
and respond to the variety of risks they re ordinarily faced with, including the risk of material
misstatements in the financial statements. Four factors that can result in increased financial reporting
are personnel changes, the organization grows rapidly, corporate restructurings, and the changing of or
adopting new accounting principles.
The accounting information system has five major objectives. The first one is to identify and record
transactions that are valid. The second one is to describe the transactions with sufficient detail to
permit proper classification of transactions for financial reporting. The third objective is to measure
the value of transactions in such a way that allows their proper monetary value to be recorded in the
financial statements. The fourth objective of the accounting information system is to determine the
time period in which transactions occurred so that they are recorded in the proper accounting period.
The fifth objective is to properly present the transactions and any related disclosures in the financial
statements.
Performance reviews are conducted in order to see where their personnel are

In some capital equipment items, Canada takes six to twelve months to make, where Japan takes six to twelve weeks. (Schwind, 2010, p. 10) This is a major challenge that Canada must face. The service factor is continuous. A machine is programed to do the same exact operation over and over to ensure quality and effectiveness, where as a human might make an error on one or more areas of the operation. Another challenge with technology and automation is cost. Machines are expensive and not all companies can afford the high tech equipment, and therefore must rely on manual labour. Demographic challenges include the changes associated with the labour force, such as education levels, age, and participation levels which occur slowly and are usually known in advance. Building Healthy Society The peoples of the dominant human societies lost their sense of attachment to the living earth, and societies became divided between the rulers and the ruled, exploiters and exploited. The brutal competition for power created a relentless play or die, rule or be ruled dynamic of violence and oppression and served to elevate the most ruthless to the highest positions of power. Since the fateful turn, the major portion of the resources available to human societies has been diverted from meeting the needs of life to supporting the military forces, prisons, palaces, temples, and patronage for retainers and propagandists on which the system of domination in turn depends. And in the moment you think to yourself, Because I persevered, I accomplished my goals. That is exactly how I felt two years ago when I crossed my finish line... It started on a chilly February morning at my church s Youth Camp Retreat, called Winter Blast . My friends had tried to persuade me all morning to climb the two story ropes course, in the barn at the top of the hill. Come on Amanda, how do you know you won t like it unless you try it? Nora asked as she pulled on her tennis shoes. I just know, I m terrified of heights and I don t want to fall, I protested back as I crawled out of bed. After more persuasion and pleading I eventually gave in, and we exited our cabin and headed towards the hill. My nerves grew by the second as I neared the giant opening. We gazed upward as we entered the barn. Climbers of all shapes and sizes were many stories up, climbing through the obstacle courses. The barn was cold and dim lighted. The musty smell of the barn filled my nostrils. It made me feel as though I had entered a Haunted House. People screamed as the ropes above shook with the wind being brought in through the holes in the wall. New climbers head this way! Shouted a voice to the right. I turned and followed my group of friends over to the man talking. After all of the climbers were in a half circle around the man, he began speaking. My name is Westley and I will be your harness instructor. Wesley spoke about all the safety rules you need to know in order to climb; things like how to attach your harness to the overhead ropes and how to climb up to the next story. After all of the rules were shared and everyone got their harnesses on, we were released to go up to the first story of obstacle courses. My heart pounded in my chest as I neared the rope ladder going up to the first level. I took a deep breath. Amanda you can do this, I mumbled to myself as I put my hand on the rope ladder. I slowly climbed higher and higher until I reached the top rung. I took another deep breath and climbed onto the platform. The reinforcement of gender roles and boundaries through societal constructs is shown in Woodhouse s discussion of transvestites or cross dressers. Cross dressing heterosexual men (dressing in women s clothing) pose a threat to traditional society that presents male and female gender categories as immutable categories that have no room for malleability. On a social and cultural level the two groups (male and female) are mutually exclusive #8230; (Woodhouse, p. 117). This is maintained and strictly enforced in our male dominant society through approval of masculinity and disapproval of femininity. Outside of the closely demarcated boundaries of the drag act or the fancy dress party, men cannot appear in any item of women s clothing without immediate loss of the superior status attached to the male and the full imposition of ridicule and censure (Woodhouse, p. 119). We see examples of this ridicule from very early childhood and adolescence with boys being scorned and called a sissy for playing with dolls or expressing feminine traits which are reserved for the secondary, inferior female role and should be eradicated (Woodhouse, p. 119). The war provided the excuse for removing the Japanese from the West Coast and to eliminate competition and literally take over whatever gains the Japanese had made, (92). • 20. Essay about The Psychology of Social Media Living in the 21st century requires one to stay current with latest technological advancements. Ever since the development of social networking sites, people are now able to create a carefully crafted identity for themselves. This has led psychologists to question how well these online personalities match the person in front of the computer. The innovative branch of media psychology looks into how social networking portrays individuals and initiates human interactions within a society. A basic question is how well are people able to get to know each other through social networking sites? Gosling polled the group using a standard Five Factor model personality test which measured extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, emotional stability, and openness to new experiences (Steele, Evans, Green, 2008). Then researchers rated the same subjects based solely on their Facebook profiles, which usually included pictures and lists of interests. The researchers found a correlation between assessments in four of the five categories. Gosling was not surprised that emotional stability was the only attribute showing no significant results across personal and online assessments because it is a quality that people are good at concealing across most media (Wilson, 2007). Although the extroversion category showed the highest correlation, research suggests that openness to new experience is perhaps exhibited better online than in person. Judith Donath, an associate professor at the Media Laboratory at MIT who reviewed Gosling s research, divides the content of social networking sites into signals and unintended cues. According to Donath, Facebook users do not intend to share super personal information on their profiles. People who happen to share a personal status update might be perceived as over sharing without meaning to (Wilson, 2007). • 23. E.E. Cummings and His Wondrous Works Edward Estlin Cummings was born on October 14, 1894 in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Cummings began writing his poems as early as ten years old. His unique ideas and various poetic devices that were included in his poetry induced him to be one of the most remembered poets of modern day time. E.E. Cummings was an intriguing poet that is known for many poetic ideas. Among them, Cummings was known for his ability to create meaning using structure and his avant garde approach towards language. In his work, Cummings experimented radically with form, punctuation, spelling and syntax, which caused him to abandon traditional techniques and structures to create a new, highly distinctive mean of poetic expression. By introducing this new innovative writing style, Cummings has influenced thousands of poets to carry on with his expression, which is what he had hoped for. The wide range of writing style that Cummings included while composing his poems gave him the title of originality. While some of his poetry is free verse (with no concern for rhyme or meter), many have a recognizable sonnet structure of 14 lines, with an intricate rhyme scheme. E.E. Cummings poem, Fame Speaks, is an example of one of his more formal poems. The rhyme scheme is an example of a petrarchan sonnet. The sonnet Fame Speaks talks about how E.E. Organizational changes include, but are not limited to mergers, acquisitions, affiliations, and consolidations, which affect the roles of the governing bodies, professional staff organizers, senior level managers and the chief executive officer in differing ways. The GBs of an organization play an instrumental role in the modification process of organizational ownership and control. One of the core responsibilities of the GB is to represent, balance, preserve, and advance the interests of its various stakeholders in the entity (Longest Darr, 2000, pg.68). The various stakeholders include employees, shareholders, the government and the surrounding community of the organization. Board members are obligated to act in good faith and use their authority to promote the best interests of the stakeholders and the organization they govern (Kazemek, 2009). Furthermore, it is necessary for GBs to exercise their fiduciary duty to preserve the organization s long‐term goals and to sustain the mission that it has originally played a part in formulating. In this context, a fiduciary responsibility is one of trust; it means that one acts to the best of one s ability in the interest of another, not in self interest; GBs act on behalf of the stakeholders (Schyve, 2009). During a change in organizational ownership and control, GBs must transcend their typical role. Close observation over extended periods of time has led them to an appreciation of the unique personalities of their subjects. The girl is in a whole new world of her imagination as she rides through the hills of her backyard. Swenson allows readers to take part in the transformation from human to horse that the adolescent girl described undergoes, thus emphasizing the importance of childhood and imagination on the woman s identity and how strong and intelligent they could be. In the poem, May uses the Greek mythological creature, the Centaur, as a symbol of the girl pretending to ride the horse and then became the horse himself. A centaur is a half man half horse creature. Centaurs are strong creatures they stand for being strong, brave, and they have a hard identity which reflects the girl s identity of having all these characteristics. Swenson makes it seem as though the girl herself is a Centaur. Words and phrases like: my hair flopped to the side like the mane of a horse (line 29 to 30), I shied and skittered and reared (line 33), I was the horse and the rider (line 38), spanked my own behind (line 40 ), and my two hoofs beat a gallop along the bank (line 41 to 42 ) . The organization was originally founded in response to the New York Post s homophobic and defamatory coverage of the AIDS epidemic, which was at its height in the 1980 s. Based upon the statistics compiled by the Center for Disease Control, the AIDS virus disproportionately impacted gay men at a time when Americans had an extremely negative attitude towards homosexuality.
