The translation of any material in audio, visual or audiovisual
format.
Dubbing, subtitling, localisation, and media accessibility (audio
description, subtitling for the deaf and hard of hearing) are
some of the most common techniques (oral or written) with
sound and image.
Audiovisual translation is an exciting new field in translation
studies ranging from dubbing and voice-over to subtitling.
This field has witnessed a growing professional demand.

About Subtitling
Subtitling is an exciting area of
translation and is part of a broader field
of audiovisual translation which
includes dubbing, voiceover and audio
description.
Subtitling is done by translating the
scripts and then the translation is
super imposed onto the film (or
overlaid using the digital software )

About Dubbing
 Dubbing, in sound recording refers to the transfer or

copying of previously recorded audio material from one
medium to another of the same or a different type.
 Dubbing is done by using a script, translations are made

and then voice actors read the translations

TRADITIONAL VS MUTIMEDIA
TRANSLATION of a
Software localization is the translation and adaptation
software or web product, including the software itself and
all related product documentation.
Traditional translation is typically an activity performed
after the source document has been finalized.
Software localization projects, on the other hand, often run
in parallel with the development of the source product to
enable simultaneous shipment of all language versions. For
example, the translation of software strings may often start
while the software product is still in the beta phase.

identity of the target markets

Voice-over translation is an audiovisual
translation technique in which, unlike
in dubbing, voices are recorded over the
original audio track which can be heard in
the background.

Most often used in documentaries and news
reports to translate words of foreign-language
interviewees.

In some countries, most notably in Eastern
Europe, it is commonly used to translate all kinds
of movies.
It is slow paced,
therefore shortened
but fully intelligible,
usually trailing the
original dialogue by a
few seconds.

Due to the lack of
synchronization
between original
dialogue and a voiceover, original music is
usually a victim of
lowering the original
track's volume.

The voice-over usually
contains only a hint of
emotion, as many of
the interpreters try to
sound "transparent" to
the audience.

The original audio
can thus be heard to
some extent, allowing
the viewer to grasp
the actors' voices.
Audio description (AD) is the descriptive
technique of inserting audio narration,
explanations and descriptions of the settings,
characters, and actions taking place in a
variety of audiovisual media, when such
information about these visual elements is not
offered in the regular audio presentation.

The technique is similar to that of an oldstyle radio play.

Used in performing arts
(theater, dance, opera), and media
(television, movies and DVD)
Audio description uses the natural pauses in dialogue or between critical
sound elements to insert narrative that translates the visual image into a
sense form that is accessible to millions of individuals who otherwise lack full
access to television and film.
A PART OF CLOSED CAPTIONING
SDH are subtitles usually created within the same language
(intralingual subtitles) where the text not only displays what is spoken,
but also displaying a semantic account of what is broadcast on the
program.

Indicate music ,special effects or any particular
characteristics of the speech such as tone of voice,
accents and foreign languages, the sound of the voice.

Make it easier to understand who is speaking; use colour codes and/or
change the position of the subtitles
Communication Access Real-Time Translation (CART) stenographers use a
computer with either stenotype or Velotype keyboards to transcribe stenographic
input for presentation as captions within 2–3 seconds of the representing audio and
can caption anything which is purely live and unscripted.

The most recent developments include operators using speech recognition software
and revoicing the dialogue.

Dubbing, subtitling, localisation, and media accessibility (audio description, subtitling for the deaf and hard of hearing) are some of the most common techniques (oral or written) with sound and image. Audiovisual translation is an exciting new field in translation studies ranging from dubbing and voice-over to subtitling. This field has witnessed a growing professional demand.

About Subtitling Subtitling is an exciting area of translation and is part of a broader field of audiovisual translation which includes dubbing, voiceover and audio description. Subtitling is done by translating the scripts and then the translation is super imposed onto the film (or overlaid using the digital software )

Traditional translation is typically an activity performed after the source document has been finalized. Software localization projects, on the other hand, often run in parallel with the development of the source product to enable simultaneous shipment of all language versions. For example, the translation of software strings may often start while the software product is still in the beta phase.

  • 17. Voice-over translation is an audiovisual translation technique in which, unlike in dubbing, voices are recorded over the original audio track which can be heard in the background. Most often used in documentaries and news reports to translate words of foreign-language interviewees. In some countries, most notably in Eastern Europe, it is commonly used to translate all kinds of movies.
  • 18. It is slow paced, therefore shortened but fully intelligible, usually trailing the original dialogue by a few seconds. Due to the lack of synchronization between original dialogue and a voiceover, original music is usually a victim of lowering the original track's volume. The voice-over usually contains only a hint of emotion, as many of the interpreters try to sound "transparent" to the audience. The original audio can thus be heard to some extent, allowing the viewer to grasp the actors' voices.

Audio description (AD) is the descriptive technique of inserting audio narration, explanations and descriptions of the settings, characters, and actions taking place in a variety of audiovisual media, when such information about these visual elements is not offered in the regular audio presentation. The technique is similar to that of an oldstyle radio play. Used in performing arts (theater, dance, opera), and media (television, movies and DVD)
