The Trochlear Nerve
The Trochlear Nerve (Cranial Nerve IV) is the longest and thinnest nerve emerging from the central
nervous system, more specifically the dorsal aspect of the Midbrain, its nucleus is located just below
the Oculomotor Nucleus (Cr. III) at the level of the inferior colliculus, its fibers arc around the
periaqueductal grey matter, decussate before exiting the midbrain on its dorsal aspect by piercing the
superior medullary vellum, goes around its dorsum, passing between the cerebral peduncles and the
temporal lobe; then it courses between the Superior and Posterior Cerebral Arteries (SCA, PCA),
pierces the dura just beneath the free edge of the Tentorium cerebelli behind the posterior clinoid
process, enters the cavernous sinus and runs through its lateral wall above the ophthalmic nerve and
below the oculomotor nerve, before exiting the cavernous sinus it positions above the oculomotor
nerve and enters the superior orbital fissure lateral to its common tendinous ring, passes above the

For instance, if someone s income grows, then his demand for goods will increase, shifting his
demand curve to the right. This will lead to a higher quantity being consumed at a higher price, ceteris
paribus. Conversely, there can be a negative effect that shifts the supply curve to the left where a lower
quantity is consumed at a lower price, ceteris paribus. This can occur when the price of substitutes
falls or consumers begin to lose their taste for the product. When there is a change of one of the
factors of supply like changes in the prices of production inputs like labour or capital; a change in
production technology and its associated productivity change; or the amount of competition in a
specific product market there is a corresponding change in the supply curve. For example, if worker
productivity improves due to some human capital or technology investment, then the costs of
production decrease. This exerts a positive effect on the supply curve shifting it right, where the new
market equilibrium is at a higher quantity and a lower price, holding everything else constant. There
can also be a negative shift that moves the supply curve to the left, with the resulting market clearing
price being higher and quantity lower, ceteris

The Canadian Guidelines For Sexual Education
Sexual education is an important topic which as to be addressed due to the growing debates as to
weather it should be implemented within the school system. The Canadian Guidelines for Sexual
Health Education states that sexual education curriculums addresses a range of topics including
puberty, effective contraceptive methods, prevention of STI/HIV, communication skills, sexual
orientation, interpersonal relationships, and media literacy (Public Health Agency of Canada).
Children need to address such issues early in order to protect them from early initiation of sexual
activity, sexually transmitted infections and pregnancy. The issue is then weather or not parents
support such a program. A historical factor affecting sexual health education (SHE) is how it affects
those strongly rooted in religion. Canadian education is divided between non secular schools and
denominational separate schools (usually Catholic). Canada is a largely Catholic country, with 67% of
the population describing themselves as Roman Catholics in the 2011 Census (NHS, 2011). In Ontario
alone, Card, 2010 found that, as of 2003, there were 31 public school boards in the province (with an
average enrollment of 44,000 students) and 29 separate school boards (with an average enrollment of
18,000). The provincial Ministry of Education mandates the type of instruction that sexual health
education provides, for both public and separate school boards. Mckay, 2014 found that within
Catholic schools its

Marie Antoinette The Journey By Antonia Fraser
From the beginning, Marie Antoinette s time in France was tainted. Her failures were great, and her
verdict was deadly betrayal. Marie Antoinette The Journey, written by Antonia Fraser sheds light on
Marie Antoinette s failures and achievements throughout her short existence. As Antonia Fraser
presses deeper into the life of the ill fated Queen, she reveals the innermost personality of Marie
Antoinette s sincere intentions surrounding her life as a lonely queen, neglected wife, and loving
mother. Fraser s work delivers and does not disappoint. Her work offers a life story from the top of
royalty in the late eighteenth century of France.

Antonia Fraser s objectives on Marie Antoinette cannot be limited to the detailed description of Marie
Antoinette s life, providing an astounding job of assuring the reader of emotions that Marie Antoinette
certainly must have felt throughout her lifetime. Fraser tells the conflicts of her marriage as she was
unhappy, the loneliness she must have experienced, and the shock of being away from home and
marrying at such a young age. Fraser shows skill in informing and delivering ideas and topics.
Throughout the book Fraser presents information by means that does not bore the reader. Her skill is
in bringing forth a story with meaning and take away significance that is deeply woven into her work.
This skill is valuable, as Fraser holds attention continuously throughout her biography.
Fraser s history in Marie Antoinette, The Journey, is taken from numerous sources, including family
letters and many archival materials, making her history reliable. Upon comparing this book to another
work: Marie Antoinette: The Last Queen of France by Evelyne Lever. The conclusion was reached
that Fraser s history is sound. In some places the writing can be compared and the statements are
considerably similar. Her conclusion to Marie Antoinette The

The Silent Killer Short Story
The Silent Killer
Reginald and Timothy
Let me recount to all of you the tale of Reginald. Reginald was a corporate lawyer based in New York
and lived there with his wife and four children. Reginald s life was rich and full of joy and happiness.
Years went by and Reginald retired with his family and moved to the great state of Utah. Months later
Reginald s wife died of cancer and his children all moved away to start their futures at college. At that
point in time, Reginald found himself completely alone, depressed, and unable to leave his house
without assistance. But why is he depressed? Some would argue that he lived a successful life and he
has no reason to be depressed. While this is true some of the time what most people don t see what is
really going on. Reginald often finds himself stilling alone day after day with no one visiting him and
being unable to leave. Reginald is suffering from social isolation however this does not just affect the
elderly or those who don t have family around.
Let s take a look at Reginald s child Timothy. Timothy moved away to college just a few months after
his mother died. He knows a few people and he does is go to class, comes home, and does his
homework. Timothy does this day after day and sits at home every day. Timothy tries to get out of the
house but he feels that he doesn t have any friends but more like acquaintances. Timothy, much like
his father, is suffering from social isolationism and it is a silent epidemic. People find

The Recent Repatriation Laws Set Up By Egypt And The...
The recent repatriation laws set up by Egypt and the subsequent demands from other nations have
stirred up great debates over who is to have possession over the priceless ancient artifacts. In the last
few decades many countries including Egypt have proclaimed that they want the return of many of
their uncovered artifacts. Egypt s demands stretch from museums in the United States to Europe, with
growing controversy from both sides as to who rightfully owns these historical artifacts. Simply put,
all artifacts discovered in Egypt do technically belong to Egypt. Egyptian museums should have the
right to showcase the history of their ancient predecessors by showcasing the material culture of their
past uncovered from that time. However, the United States along with other Western nations,
particularly England counter their claim by saying that it is in the majorities interest that artifacts from
around the world can be seen in universal museums . That in contrast to the museums in Egypt, a
museum such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art presents to a more diverse audience who can view
and appreciate the value of the greatest of family trees, in which every culture finds its branch . The
argument for universal museums is coupled with the instability of Egypt that results in constant
looting of Egyptian museums. Leaving us with the question of what is the best way to protect our
worlds cultural heritage? Is it best if museums already in possession of ancient artifacts

Character Traits Contribute To Benedict Arnold s Role In...
Certain character traits contribute to Benedict Arnold s role in history. Benedict Arnold was an
American Revolutionary War general most famous for his betrayal of the Continental Army in the
year 1780. Before he turned on his fellow Patriots, Benedict Arnold was a true war hero. He was a
complicated and interesting man that today is mostly remembered for just his treason. But, many
people forget that before Arnold was a turncoat, he was a courageous military leader that contributed
to many of the Americans victories in the Revolutionary War. Arnold was born on January 14, 1741 in
Norwich, Connecticut. He was one of five children, and only him and his sister survived childhood. At
age 15, Arnold ran away from home to join the Connecticut militia to fight in the French and Indian
War (Gaines 11). For Arnold s education, he went to a tutor at a very young age. After that, Arnold
attended Prudence Crandall s School in Canterbury and was later taught by a man known as Reverend
James Cogswell. He was expected to go to Yale, but dropped out due to father s alcoholism (Gaines ...

Arnold showed bravery in many moments, including the time when he argued with General Horatio
Gates in the Battle of Bemis Heights until he was able to force him to make an important military
decision. Arnold also later bravely disobeyed what Gates had said and helped his fellow troops on the
battlefield (Murphy 167). Bravery was also shown when he joined Ethan Allen and the Green
Mountain Boys and captured Fort Ticonderoga. Arnold had no experience in battle. But he had wits,
drive, and a lack of fear. states page thirty six of Benedict Arnold: From Patriot to Traitor on when he

Vivaldi Instrumedeley Analysis
The two concerts I have chosen are different in many ways, but the music itself has a lot in common.
For the first concert I chose the progressive rock group Dream Theater. I chose the piece Instrumedley
from their Live at Budokan video released in 2004. This video depicts the band setup on stage in the
typical rock concert format. The lighting is bright and multicolored. Unlike most rock concerts, the
musicians do not animate themselves to excite the crowd. They rely on the mastery of their
instruments to provide the excitement.
The second concert is a performance of Vivaldi s Concerto Grosso in D minor. It is performed by the
Franz Listz Chamber Orchestra. The setting is that of a small gothic church in Hungary. There is no
audience as the venue is used solely for the acoustics.
The band Dream Theater is an American progressive metal band formed in 1985. The members met
while attending Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. Their music focuses on three
core elements: metal, progressive roots and melody. Dream Theater has been known to make use of
elements of other musical styles to include classical music. The piece I selected, Instrumedely , is a

his pieces for string orchestra. One of his most famous of these is his set of concertos for solo violin

sequence is entrancing as the two violins tend to echo off one another. The acoustics of the gothic
church lend itself perfectly to the style of music. The details in the melody are clearly heard while
there is a rich bass sound thanks to the echo of the church. I found the piece to be rather relaxing while
being impressed by the complexity. It is no surprise that so many modern guitarists borrow heavy

Pap Test Research Paper

check for abnormalities that may be indicative of cervical cancer. The cells are scraped from the
opening of the cervix are examined under a microscope. You lie on the table and place your feet in
stirrups. The health care provider gently places an instrument called a spectrum into the vagina to
open it slightly. This allows the provider to see inside the vagina and cervix. Cells are gently scraped
from the cervix area. The sample of cells is sent to a lab for examination. Tell your provider about all
medications you take. Some birth control pills that contain estrogen or progestin may affect test
results. Your provider should also know about any previous abnormal pap smears or if you are
pregnant. It is not recommended to have a pap test if within 24 hours if you have used douche, had

Arnold Schwarzenegger Controversy
The picture I have posted is of Arnold Schwarzenegger. My question to you is, would you elect this
guy as president? Arnold Schwarzenegger began his career as a body builder and later became a
famous actor, staring in many famous movies and roles. In 2003 he ran for governor of California and
won. However, his career and home life have been shadowed by many controversies. One such
controversy is that Schwarzenegger has admitted to steroid use during his bodybuilding career. He
stated steroids were helpful to me in maintaining muscle size while on a strict diet in preparation for a
contest. I did not use them for muscle growth, but rather for muscle maintenance when cutting up .
This statement would make one question his integrity,

Eleanor Roosevelt Character Analysis
A woman is a lot like a tea bag you can t tell how strong she is until you put her in hot water. This is
one of Eleanor Roosevelt s famous quotes that demonstrates her character, she believes that women
are powerful people who are more capable of things than they are portrayed to be. Eleanor is one of
the most influential woman in history, she believes in equal rights for all individuals. Therefore she
should be the spokesperson for UNICEF. UNICEF is a company that works in 190 countries and

I never knew it was physically possible to feel the hand of God, but Steubenville Youth Conferences

I was raised in the Catholic faith and didn t enjoy attending church. When I was young, I found it

I was already sobbing, which wasn t surprising to me, because I tend to be an emotional person. We
woke up Saturday and went to a few sessions of worship and seminars. Following dinner was mass
and Adoration. Mass was very good since the priest used real world situations and connected the
gospel to our everyday lives. I am not sure what made Saturday nights Adoration so powerful, but it
was the night I felt the hand of Jesus Christ.
The priest took the monstrance off of the altar and proceeded to carry it throughout the fieldhouse. I
started to cry and the person next to me grabbed my hand in support. We then stood with our arms
held high praising the Lord with the hundreds of other people there. My knees began to feel week so I
took a seat, and my new friend beside me put his hand on my shoulder. After a few minutes I felt him

Increasing Number of Female Athletes
Sport participation is a significant aspect of life for many female athletes beginning at a young age.
With increasing female sport participation, specifically in swimming, understanding the possible
implications of their chosen form of training is critical. Over years of training, an athlete generally
becomes more elite and focused in one specific sport however the timing of when they choose to do so
determines their chosen training pattern. The two most common forms of training are high intensity
single sport participation and that of multiple sports with less time dedicated in one particular activity.
With the current research showing female swimmers to start training at the age of 10 (Malina, 2010),
well before typical maturity, evaluating the long term impacts is necessary. While data sport
participation prior to menarche is not convincingly seen to impact growth and maturation (Malina,
2010), the impacts it may have on injuries is yet to be seen. Injury patterns have also been previously
studied with female collegiate swimmers and the most common areas of injury are in the
shoulder/upper arm and the back/neck (Wolf, 2009). However, in this study, intensity of training either
currently or in the past was not also examined.
Combining all of these facets: sport specialization, age at menarche, and their possible relationship to
injuries has yet to be done. In this paper, first the current research in these areas individually be
discussed in order to provide a solid

miss their best friend. Having to face being the only daughter, being poor, and missing a best friend
can really shape you as a person whether it be good or bad. Throughout majority of the book Arnold

explaining the rationale behind the statuses. I was showing off my confident personality and treating
myself as though I was superior to those around me. Then there was another post saying to
temporarily withdraw from physical affection of any kind. The rationale behind that was to keep her
wanting more. If you found yourself touching her first a lot, you should withdraw from a significant
amount of time. That is unless she initiates it; if she initiates it, do not refuse the touch. This will
subconsciously show her how much she needs you. To add onto that, I commented saying you are
entitled to her body and it is her job to protect herself from unwanted affection. You should not be

My Courage In Life
Courage is different for everyone, but no matter the description everyone experiences moments during
life where they have to be courageous. I believe courage is being brave enough to face your fears and
overcome adversities, and not look back. Many people s fears decrease as they face them more, but for
me mine only got worse the more I moved, and the older I got. For many people they have to find
courage to face new places and situations, which is where I have found the most courage in my life.
Change is not easy and leaving everything you know is hard but I had to become courageous to
overcome what I was faced with, and these difficulties have changed my life and made me a person I
would have never been without them. Each person finds courage in their darkest and hardest moments
in life, and here is mine. Six year olds don t know anything right? So as I sat waving from the giant

I was six, and yet again I didn t care. It was my third move and this one I was even more excited

Whether Intelligence Can be Defined and Measured Accurately or Not
In this essay I will look at whether intelligence can be defined and measured accurately through
looking at various definitions of intelligence; including definitions from Binet, Wechsler, Terman,
Hebbs, Cattel and Vernon. I will discuss a selection of more well known and popular intelligence tests
ranging from Galton to Wechsler, what they measure and what they don t measure. I will look at an

Terman (1921) describes intelligence as a person s ability of abstract thinking (1921, cited in Heim,
1970).
It seems that psychologists find it hard to reach an agreement to define intelligence, resulting in the
final definition I will mention from Vernon (1969) intelligence is what intelligence tests measure
(1969, cited in Howe, 1997).
Although most definitions seem to have a similarity, the meaning of intelligence can vary over time
and through cultures. It was once thought that intelligence was all down to a persons ability with
spelling and arithmetic, whereas in the islands of the south pacific a persons ability to navigate the
oceans and there spatial memory are the way to judge a persons intelligence level (MSN, 2005).
It seems a nomothetic approach is needed to even attempt to measure intelligence. All tests need to be
reliable, correlate with existing test scores and show face, internal and ecological validity (MSN,
2005).
Intelligence tests were developed to predict school children s eventual academic results (MSN, 2005).
In England in the 1880 s Galton made the first attempt at measuring intelligence. Galton s theory was
that a person with a good degree of intelligence would

A Report On Agriculture And Horticulture Class
Introduction
On the 15/03/16 our year 12 agriculture and horticulture class went on a trip to a local dairy goat farm.
This is a 40 hectare farm on sandy loam soil which houses 1100 goats, all goats are kept in door and
all food is made on site and bought to them along with their water. Only about 700 goats are being
milked. These goats are milked on a rotary milk parlour, which is one of two in the country. There
were 3 full time staff working and the manager. We asked the manager many questions to assist us
with our internal. The answers were occasionally a bit brief due to the owner only taking over the farm
about a month ago, but we received the necessary information. A guided tour took place with the
owner and a full time employee. Which included us looking at the housing systems, feeding systems,
the composting procedure, Milking shed and other relevant information such as the restrictions they
have.
Soil Impacts
Having good soil structure is very important for all types of farming. To constantly provide quality
feed soil with a good tilth and with plenty of nutrients is required. This is achieved by collecting urine
and dung from the milk shed and is collected in ponds. The liquid is drained away and are processed

Themes And Setting In The Book Thief By Markus Zusak
In a story, the setting is vital because it not only shows the characters surroundings, which will cause
them to act a certain way, but it can also help to depict a theme. In The Book Thief, a novel by Markus
Zusak, just like in many other books, the central setting helps to develop themes and ideas in the
novel.
Liesel Meminger, a smart yet sneaky nine year old girl who experiences life in Nazi Germany, was on
a train to Munich along with her mother and six year old brother, Werner. They were on their way to a
foster family who agreed to care for Liesel and her sick brother, who does not end up making it. The
foster family had consented to feeding the children a little better than they were currently being fed,
and educating them properly.
Outside of the train it was severely cold, and since Liesel s brother just died they had to bury him.
Standing to Liesel s left, the grave diggers were rubbing their hands together and whining about the
snow and the current digging conditions. (page 23) Because it was so snowy outside, Werner did not
get a proper burial; he was just buried under the thick layers of snow. This caused Leisel to try to dig
him out, but snow carved into her skin and frozen blood was all over her hands. This is only one
example of when the setting affected the characters actions.
Later, when Liesel and her mother arrived in Molchig, a small town in Munich, they approach the
foster home. It was on Himmel street, where, as Death, the narrator of the story

Mother Courage Essay
Mother Courage
It s always important to be touched. Writers know and understand this idea. Whether the audience
feels good or bad about whom or what you present is not as important as the fact that they feel
something. Bertolt Brecht s Mother Courage and Her Children is a perfect example of a work that
doesn t leave us in very high spirits but touches us in such a way that it becomes even more powerful
than if it had.
Throughout the play the title character, Mother Courage, is presented to us in such a way that the
reader is usually left not knowing how to feel. We have with two choices. On the one hand she can be
a money grubbing, self concerned woman who only cares about ... Show more content on

As each dies she just seems to pick up and move on, with a brief moment of sorrow. This is a
characteristic that adds to the readers contempt for her, and rightly so. Wouldn t you think the death of
a child would affect a mother to the point of agony? But it doesn t seem to reach Mother Courage on
this level. Why is it, that in spite of losing all her children, Mother Courage fails to see the light?
She conducts business even at the end, paying for Kattrin s burial. Basically, she has learned nothing,
saying, quot;I must get back into business. quot; Although Brecht wants us to condemn her for her
sentiments at the end, it is difficult to do so. Part of the problem is that we are not presented with a
better alternative. Had she not conducted business at each moment when her children were killed, then
she would not have been able to feed her remaining family. So, while we may not agree with her
outlook on life, it is difficult to condemn her for her actions.
Kattrin s body is kept onstage in the last scene because it represents the death of selflessness. Helping
others does not pay; by keeping the body onstage, Brecht is showing the audience that only people
like Mother Courage can survive in the world. By making us despise Mother Courage, Brecht is trying
to get his audience to realize that the world in which we live needs to be changed. Kattrin represents
an alternative and idealized world that cannot yet exist in our own world.

Pursuing Doctoral Studies For Academic Excellence Essay
I am mostly interested in pursuing doctoral studies to achieve my ultimate goal to become a prolific
researcher as well as an inspiring, knowledgeable university level teacher. Consequently, in the short
term, my goal is to gain knowledge and skills related to research and teaching especially during my
PhD program. Additionally, in the long run, I will spend most of my time practicing the knowledge
and skills that I will have already acquired by teaching classes and seminars, doing research projects,
as well as writing qualified academic articles and books. I will dedicate most of the time that I have
after gaining a Doctorate degree in Business to the advancement of the academic excellence.
In the meantime, I realize that at the moment my business knowledge is predominantly empirical
gained mostly from my background experience both professional and academic (MBA). It is wide in
nature as it covers many aspects of business practices. Yet, I miss the depth of the business knowledge.
Therefore, my understanding on a more theoretical background of business and economic phenomena
is limited. Pursuing a doctoral study would undoubtedly be necessary for me to enhance my
understanding, particularly in terms of theory and concept. It is not only in terms of my
comprehension of the subjects per se but also in terms of skills necessary in theory building and
research capability. Those are, I deem, very critical elements in academic excellence. Moreover, I
believe, all of these are

A Family Is Like A Patchwork Quilt
A Family is Like a Patchwork Quilt
What is the meaning of family? The internet will tell you that it is a group consisting of parents and
children living together in a household. But I beg to differ. Family doesn t just consist of several
people living under one roof: no, a family is a living, breathing organism. Family is messy and it takes
effort on everyone s part to make it function correctly. Is there such thing as a perfect family? No,
absolutely not. That s the message that I got from watching Parenthood. Although hilarious, it was an
accurate depiction of a family. I can easily relate to Gill s family, especially Kevin. When I was a little
girl I was anxious about everything. I was anxious over things that really shouldn t be weighing on a
little girls mind. When my family and I would be driving, whether it being across town or across the
state, I was a backseat driver. I would be strapped into my car seat, fretting about the weather or if my
father was getting too close to another car. When I would hear the gas light come on, I would freak
out. I was so terrified that we would run out of gas and be stranded on the road, and I could never
calm down unless we pulled over right that minute at a nearest gas station to fill up the car. Thinking
back now it s kind of a ridiculous fear, but every now and then I still get anxious when the gaslight
comes on. I also relate to Gill so much. I know what it s like to have a dead beat brother. I know what

With this ring I thee wed.... For better or worse, for richer or poorer.... Traditionally, two people speak
these words on their wedding day, the day that two become one, the day that two people begin a life

Americans is rampant. In society today divorces are as common as marriages themselves. Couples

My mother could never let anything rest she loved to argue. It didn t matter if it was money, family,
jealousy, or the color of the clouds in the sky that particular day; she just loved to bitch. Then one day
my dad had enough and he left. Let me go back up and say that my dad was not perfect by any means.
He was a hard worker and a good provider and he loved my mother and us. But he also allowed my
mother to always be in control of the household, the finances and the discipline. My mother resented
him for this and when things went wrong she wanted to blame him for his lack of input. Anyway, the
day my dad moved out was a day of mixed emotions, I felt like the largest weight in the world had
been lifted off of my shoulders and at the same time the sadness that I felt was just weighing me back
down. I was so glad my dad was finally going to take a stand and stop the arguing but I was so sad
that he was going to have to leave to do it.
I blame my dad for taking the easy way out and I blame my mom for allowing it. I blame society as a
whole for commercializing divorce on a level that allows parents to choose it as if it were the only
option. Because of these things this is how I have spent the last twenty years of my life, seeking the
easiest way out of tough situation and blaming myself for things that were beyond my control.
People who are not from broken homes or do not have first hand experience with divorce have no idea
what it does to a child.

It is no longer deemed a safe way to bring in a show with lots of preview performances due to the fact
that as soon as an audience have seen the first preview they are able to write on many different
platforms their opinions, whether they be positive or negative critique. James Seabright suggests in his
book So You Want To Be A Theatre Producer? that it needs to be the producers main concern that the
show is ready for public viewing from the day of the first preview as it is so much easier to get word
around about a show using the likes of Facebook and Twitter (Seabright, 2010). Although Andrew
Lloyd Webber was offended by this newfound love of social media, there is no embargo for paying
audiences (Sadler, 2014). It can either fall as a friend or a foe depending on how the audience receives
it, if Twitter and blogs are bursting with positivity then the producers need to use this to continue the
hype until reviews from critics are released, and if these don t speak too well then social media can
just be pushed even more (O Hanlon, 2014). It may start to become a matter of fact that previews are
more important than the official opening night. According to a survey conducted by Ticketmaster,
almost one quarter of theatre goers tweet about the performances they have seen proving that theatres
need to be latching onto this free publicity, that is if the tweets are of a positive nature

Berlin Wall Game
More Than A Game: Research Report
On August 13, 1961, the GDR( German Democratic Republic) began to build a fence with concrete
slabs. This fence and concrete wall would be known as the Berlin Wall. The Berlin Wall was built to
keep Western fascists , followers of a political side, out of East Germany. The GDR also wanted them
to stay out because they would weaken the socialist state. In June of 1945, when World War II was
ending, the GDR split the nation into four allied occupation zones. The Eastern part of Germany went

African American Values
Each individual has there own set of ideals and values that motivate them towards specific and non

can be influenced by a plethora of factors, from environment to predispositions, and can range from
relationships to materialism. Values and goals may represent a person, or a person may represent the

Walter proposes his idea to open a liquor store to help his family, by first investing with the money
that comes from the insurance check. Lena immediately discredits the idea, using arguments saying
that Walter s priority isn t family. One can recall that Lena s late husband was described as a hard
worker, with family at the center of everything he did. Not only that, but Lena, being older and living
differently than she is now, has grown up with different sets of hardships and therefore values. Both
contribute to her ideals revolving around being there for family, of which don t include a get rich
quick scheme. This is seen when Lena reveals that she put a down payment for a house, and giving her
reasoning behind it. Lena wants to get a newer house, that allows them to live comfortably, and the
amenities that contribute to this are a bedroom for Travis and a garden for herself. The garden refers
back to the little plant Lena has in the kitchen. Like her plant, it is small and worn, but is
representative of the hope within her. The plant would then transform into a garden, demonstrating
that Lena has bounties of hope and is flourishing with the opportunity to grow her security for her
family and herself. Another important thing to note is that Lena never imposes her children with ideas
about the world. Although at times she tries to wane them off certain ideas, these ideas pertaining to
her hardships and religious beliefs, she generally is very accepting of what her children do. She lets
them have their own dreams and goals, seen when she tells Walter what she wants him to do with the
check, which shows the importance of family to her in another

Meaning and Identity in Public Art While visiting the Capitol Square, I felt like I had stepped back

Greek goddesses among our war heroes it is easy to mistake the Capitol building for a
Greek temple. I want to share with you what the architecture communicated to me, what the subject of
the art was that I observed, and why the building was placed where it now stands. Anyone who

What all this detail says to me is that this is a place where powerful people work and where many
important functions of the city take place. I gain a sense that whoever is employed here has a great
deal of wealth, be it in knowledge or money, and tremendous authority. The Greeks saw their rulers as
being next to godliness, and in a way, the people who work here are our rulers. The subject of the art
that I observed had a theme of peace, war, nobility, and discovery. The first statue I saw was a large
monument made of bronze and marble. The monument featured Ulysses S. Grant, James A. Garfield,
Phillip Sheridan, William T.
Sherman, Rutherford B. Hayes, Salmon Chase, and Edwin Stanton standing under a
Greek goddess (who resembles Ceres because she is surrounded by bushels of wheat and grains) with
a quote under her that says These are my jewels . These men were by far the greatest men to come
from Ohio and just like the Greeks who cast their heroes in bronze, so have we cast our heroes for all
to see in bronze at the Capitol. The next monument I saw was a huge angel in bronze that included an
inscription about peace.
Then, on another side of the building, there are two monuments to the soldiers that went to fight at
Iwo Jima. These walls contain etched letters from various soldiers, some of them are happy letters
while others are very sad. There seemed to be many monuments to war than anything else. The

Examples Of Madness In Tell Tale Heart
Madness is an idea that has been widely explored and theorized throughout the ages, particularly
within Shakespearean literature and other works along those lines. It is nearly impossible to establish a
working definition of madness itself, because there are so many different forms of madness shown
throughout time, as well as different contexts. It breaks down to subjectivity, along with time and
place, and situational circumstances. In Edgar Allan Poe s Tell Tale Heart, a perhaps unusual form of
madness rears it s head, the madness of passion, and how too much exertion on a single passion may
in fact lead to madness. Tell Tale Heart explores the idea of passion operating as a gateway for
madness, which is then followed by a state of delirium, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Foucault also states that delirium is essentially the most integral part of madness when he states: this
remorse, this belief, this hallucination, these speeches, in short, this complex of convictions and
images which constitutes a delirium. (96) Although Foucault was referring to an example from
Diemerbroek, a man who suffered from melancholia, it is clear that these same principles are
applicable to the hallucinations and delusions the narrator experiences in Tell Tale Heart. The
heightened sense of hearing for instance, shows that the narrator not only felt that he or she had a
superior sense of hearing that allowed them to hear things the average human wouldn t hear, such as a
person s heartbeat from a distance, or people having a normal volume level conversation from afar,
but it also shows that the narrator believed that this sense of hearing was real, rather than it being
imagined, which it most likely was. As far as the speeches Foucault is referring to, it is apparent that
the narrator experiences these as well, perhaps not in the traditional speaking to another person form,
but more along the lines of giving the

Derek was highly respected by all of the other Caucasian people in Venice. He made the decision that
he wanted to leave Venice for his families sake, but when he told the people in his town, he became

Invictus Figurative Language Essay
Invictus by William Earnest Henley contains a multitude of figurative language, imagery, and
symbolism. The poem s influential message is expressed these elements of speech. The use of
figurative language, imagery and symbolism in Invictus revolve around the theme that a person is in
charge of their own fate. Many metaphor, similes and personification flow throughout the poem; they
help enrich the images and feelings that Henley describes. The first metaphor Henley uses is Out of
the night that covers me (1), describes the pain and suffering he has endured during his sickness using
the word night which is often associated with darkness therefore suggesting his pain. In that same

Most of the imagery used are adjectives that relate to the horrors of despair that he feels when he is
first going through his illness and later using adjectives to describe his bravery that allowed him to
take control of his own fate. The first stanza contains a vast amount of imagery beginning with the
second line using the simile Black as the pit from pole to pole (2) to convey that his illness was a dark
and miserable time and that his pain was so severe that it went from the South to the North pole. The
second stanza contains another piece of imagery, which is, My head is bloody, but unbowed (8). In
this line he defines his deceitful fate and the punishment fate has put him through. The word unbowed
shows the strong self control he has accomplished during his struggle. This line is probably most
important to the meaning as a whole because it displays how strong and courageous the author is. In
the third stanza, Henley says, Beyond this place of wrath and tears (9). In this line he is portraying a
flash of anger and grief; this reveals what Henley actually felt during the time of his sickness. The use
of the imagery runs through the poem to make the details vivid and make the story come to life. With
the use of imagery comes the use of

about his plans for Germany, so he wrote Mein Kampf. Since a great deal of people had the same

which highlighted the capture of the land in Eastern Europe and Soviet Russia to be used as living

hand goes up. He comments that that is usually what happens, everyone wants help, but you can t help
everyone at once, so he demonstrates what happens when you assist students. He then walks over to a
participant in his session and shows what happens when you help a student. What happens with the
session attendees is what happens in most classrooms. It started out with a small amount of talking,
and then the noise level grew and grew. He doesn t address how to handle the talking yet, but

Study Objectives And The Home Company
A. INTRODUCTION: Founded in 1993, a vision was brought upon five entrepreneurs. Their names
are Greg Provenzano, Tony Cupisz, Mike Cupisz, and Robert Stevanovski, and Onur Edipov. We were
tired of working for others and decided to change our lives forever. We started a company called ACN,
(American Communications Network) everyone with a business mind set has one goal, and to work
for something by they want to be part of. How can you do that? Simple! Create your own company. B.
STUDY OBJECTIVES AND THE HOME COMPANY: In the beginning, ACN was only working
with helping customers by reselling long distance services in the U.S and over time we expanded to
over 25 countries and we offer all the essential services customers already use. At ... Show more

Our company is partnered with Project Feeding the Kids, as well as others like Ronald McDonald.
When we acquire customers and they set up an ACN customer, a child gets fed. And when you pay
your select ACN bills each month, another child gets fed. What better feeling can you get knowing
you are helping over a million kids get fed each year when over 17 million don t know where they are
getting there next meal from. The company conducts there sales by using multilevel marketing.
(MLM) This is a method of product and service distribution. This process is often mixed with a
pyramid scheme. The difference is 1. We don t sell or hold product, 2. All of our IBOs are working for
themselves. They make there own rewards by finding new customers and getting partners. Each level
of customers and partners contributes for there own wealth. I am one of the Co founders of the
company and my role is to work with all our international headquarters and set base in new countries.
This way we can help the country prosper in business growth and savings for the general population in
whole. Each country we interact with involves different services. In North America, we work with
telecommunications, gas, electricity, and water. In the U.S we are located in in Concord, North
Carolina. The facility is about 17 acres and extends over 140 000 square feet. This location is known
as the central support system for ACN s North American operation. To add to the World

Masculinity In The Grapes Of Wrath
In The Grapes of Wrath, the main source of their hardship is the being kicked off of their land;
however, the antagonistic force is the selfishness of the human race. John Steinbeck portrayed the
hardships of the Dust Bowl and the Great Depression for families like the Joads through this book,
and it all started off with families getting forced off of their property. That was the root of all the
hardships that would come later in the book. The Bad Guy in The Grapes of Wrath was not the banks,
the landowners or the police. They were all bad guys in some part of the book, but they were not the
bad guys in the book, as they were not in all of the book. The characteristic that they all shared was
the selfishness, which was why the unempathetic, self centered part of humanity was the bad guy in
the book. In The Grapes of Wrath, the Joads come across many hardships and encounter many
antagonists, but there can be only one root and one main antagonistic force. ... Show more content on

For one, they had to start a new life with no money because they spent it all getting to California, and
when they got to California, everybody hated them. The root of all of the this was being forced off of
their land by the banks and the large landowners. This caused a snowball effect, where everything that
happened in the book happened because they got kicked out of their land. They would have never
gone to California, never had to sell most of their belongings, never had to work out in the blistering
heat for a meager twenty cents an hour. The root of their hardships is not the Dust Bowl, or the Great
Depression, because even though it might been part of the reason they had to travel to California for
work, it didn t make the bank or landowners kick the farmers off the land. They made the decisions for
themselves, and they could have chosen to be sympathetic to the families, who had no jobs, and no
home after being kicked off the

Step 7: Make a solid bag You will need a PVA solid bag for this step I personally like the Korda Solid
Bags (small). Firstly add the hooklink into the bag and hook it to the bottom. Make sure the hair is not
tangled then start adding your pellets. Fill up half the bag with pellets then squeeze the bag and knock
it gently on a side of a bucket so the pellets get into every little gap. Now add the lead into the bag and
lightly fill the bag a little more pellets up to ¾ full but make sure you don t fill it up to much. Twist the
bag and knock it again to make it solid then lick the twisted area. If you re casting the bag at a long
distance you can make it even more aerodynamic by folding back the corners and securing them with
a little saliva. Conclusion So there you go you have now learnt an awesomely effective Sneaky rig that
catches big carp. Hope you ve learnt something from the guide and if you have made any adjustments
or tweaks of your own to the Sneaky Rig then let us know in the comments below we love to hear
about them! Remember to check out our tackle reviews and more carpy

Plant Cell Centrioles
Nucleus: it s a double membrane that is closed all around and sends messages to the cytosol via
numerous nuclear pores, that is near the nucleus. The nucleus contains the DNA. Some cells genes can
be turned off because of what type of cell it is.
Nucleolus:the organelle inside of the nucleus. It creates ribosomes and transfers it out of the nucleus.
Cytosol: The protein within the cytosol helps control the cell metabolism.
Centrosome:It where most of the microtubules are made. Plant and animal cells centrosomes have
almost the same jobs during a cell s division. Only difference is that plants cell centrosomes does not
contain centrioles.

Peroxisome:In plant cells it has the job of turning fatty acids into sugars and many other jobs. While in
animal cells, peroxisomes kills the toxic hydrogen peroxide that the cell has made.
Secretory Vesicles: the secretory vesicles moves the cell secretions that was inside of the golgi, to the
cell surface and let it go
Cell membrane: closes the cell all the way around. It also has two layers of phospholipids. One the

Explication Of Sonnet 73
William Shakespeare was a very well known writer in the British literary community and his pieces
are still read and enjoyed today. Shakespeare is also known to have written a collection of poems
which are sonnets. This essay will consist of a close reading to William Shakespeare s sonnet 73
which deals with the theme of life, death and aging. The sonnet constructs a complex idea that the
themes of life and death can be connected together. The poem contains three quatrains and one
couplet. The poem has an iambic pentameter and has multiple rhyming schemes. The first quatrain has
a rhyming scheme of ABAB, the second quatrain and the first quatrain do not rhyme together so the
rhyming scheme for the second quatrain is CDCD and the third ... Show more content on

Line four was tricky to understand because of how heavily the metaphors used in the line were. The
part where the speaker says bare ruined choirs could be referring to the tree being bare when the
leaves fall and where late the sweet birds sang don t sing on the tree anymore. Line four is
symbolizing that when the speaker was youthful the sweet birds would sing and the speaker is now
older and he realizes that he has gotten older. The first quatrain is a metaphor of life and how people
age and get older. In an article written by Bernhard Frank, Frank expresses that Shakespeare used the
logic of pathos, building our empathy from ruefulness for the yellow leaves, through resignation, to
tender sympathy. (Frank). There are many ways to interpret the first quatrain but Shakespeare may be
pulling on the emotions of the reader.
The second quatrain also starts the beginning of a new metaphor, unlike the first quatrain the second
quatrain focuses on the time of the day instead of the time of the year. In the fifth line of the poem the
speaker is saying that the reader can see him in the last part of the day after the sun has set and there is
light still in the horizon but it s fading away. The line break between line five and six is very brief, and
this may have been down on purpose because the speaker s explanation of where the reader can see
him during the day is a long explanation and the idea needs two lines so to understand line five

3.3 Datasets
Dataset is a collection of information or data. More often dataset refer to the corresponding to single
table of database in which every row represents a given member of dataset and every column
corresponds to a specific variable. List values of the datasets for each variable is a member of data
present in the datasets and each of its value is called as datum. Datasets may contain data for one or
more than one members that is interrelated to the number of rows in the table. Datasets can contain
more than one table that is related to one database in the database system.
In my evaluation I found it hard to find the logical large size dataset that should be in CSV format
since most of the time database system does not support any other format extensions except CSV
format but I managed to find it from the web and I used it in my performance evaluation. I have used
four different datasets. I have partitioned by datasets as small dataset and large dataset. One of my
dataset is further divided into three datasets that I downloaded from the web sources and other dataset
I used is extracted from a rotten tomatoes website. Dataset downloaded from the web is related to the
property tax report of different years. And the dataset which I extracted through data scrapping from
rotten tomatoes site is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Wireless Transmission of Electricity Development and Possibility
Tanuj Kumar Mandal1
Abstract In the present paper the various technologies available so far for wireless transmission of
electricity and the need for a Wireless System of Energy Transmission is being discussed to find its
possibility in actual practices, their advantages, disadvantages and economical consideration. This
paper is mainly concentrated on : i) The most popular concept known as Tesla Theory, ii) The
microwave power transmission
(MPT) called Solar power satellite, and iii) The highly efficient fibre lasers for wireless power
transmission.

The rectifier is a Ga As
Schottky barrier diode that is impedance matched to the dipoles by a low pass filter. The 6 rectifying
diodes are connected to light bulbs for indicating that the power is received. The light bulbs also
dissipated the received power.
This rectenna has a 25% collection and conversion efficiency, but rectennas have been tested with
greater than 90% efficiency at 2.45 GHz[4].
The transmission of power without wires is not a theory or a mere possibility, it is now a reality. The
electrical energy can be economically transmitted without wires to any terrestrial distance, many
researchers have established in numerous observations, experiments and measurements, qualitative
and quantitative [5 9]. These have demonstrated that it is practicable to distribute power from a central
plant in unlimited amounts, with a loss not exceeding a small fraction of one per cent, in the
transmission, even to the greatest distance, twelve thousand miles to the opposite end of the globe.
This seemingly impossible feat can now be readily performed by electrical researchers familiar with
the design and construction of my high potential magnifying transmitter, There were three popular
theories present in the literature of the late 1800 s and early 1900 s. They were:
1. Transmission through or along the Earth,
2. Propagation as a result of terrestrial resonances,
3. Coupling to the

Scrawny Monologue
eah, I m not too proud of it. Any of it. My parents definitely wouldn t be if they found out, which of
course they won t. They don t give a damn about my life anymore, much less where I am until 1:30 in
the morning when I get home. They think I m just putting off steam with my friends, smoking or
drinking or picking up chicks, it s what they re hoping. But I m just not that kind of person. Don t get
me wrong, I am letting off steam, just in a different way than most people would expect of me. At my
school, they call me Lardy, like the fat stuff you put in apple pies. The thing is, I m not fat at all.
Scrawny fits me best. My arms are as thin as a baby tree s trunk and my stomach is so flat you d
probably be able to feel my spine from my belly if you tried hard enough. My legs would collapse if I
gained nothing more than a single pound. Despite my weight, I stand a grand 6 2, taller than most the

was also acting suspiciously. He kept ignoring me, avoiding eye contact, and didn t even mention my
name to the others. Even Chad was acting strange, the entire story he decided I would be the one to

For instance, if someone s income grows, then his demand for goods will increase, shifting his demand curve to the right. This will lead to a higher quantity being consumed at a higher price, ceteris paribus. Conversely, there can be a negative effect that shifts the supply curve to the left where a lower quantity is consumed at a lower price, ceteris paribus. This can occur when the price of substitutes falls or consumers begin to lose their taste for the product. When there is a change of one of the factors of supply like changes in the prices of production inputs like labour or capital; a change in production technology and its associated productivity change; or the amount of competition in a specific product market there is a corresponding change in the supply curve. For example, if worker productivity improves due to some human capital or technology investment, then the costs of production decrease. This exerts a positive effect on the supply curve shifting it right, where the new market equilibrium is at a higher quantity and a lower price, holding everything else constant. There can also be a negative shift that moves the supply curve to the left, with the resulting market clearing price being higher and quantity lower, ceteris ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Canadian Guidelines For Sexual Education Sexual education is an important topic which as to be addressed due to the growing debates as to weather it should be implemented within the school system. The Canadian Guidelines for Sexual Health Education states that sexual education curriculums addresses a range of topics including puberty, effective contraceptive methods, prevention of STI/HIV, communication skills, sexual orientation, interpersonal relationships, and media literacy (Public Health Agency of Canada). Children need to address such issues early in order to protect them from early initiation of sexual activity, sexually transmitted infections and pregnancy. The issue is then weather or not parents support such a program. A historical factor affecting sexual health education (SHE) is how it affects those strongly rooted in religion. Canadian education is divided between non secular schools and denominational separate schools (usually Catholic). Canada is a largely Catholic country, with 67% of the population describing themselves as Roman Catholics in the 2011 Census (NHS, 2011). In Ontario alone, Card, 2010 found that, as of 2003, there were 31 public school boards in the province (with an average enrollment of 44,000 students) and 29 separate school boards (with an average enrollment of 18,000). The provincial Ministry of Education mandates the type of instruction that sexual health education provides, for both public and separate school boards. Fraser tells the conflicts of her marriage as she was unhappy, the loneliness she must have experienced, and the shock of being away from home and marrying at such a young age. Fraser shows skill in informing and delivering ideas and topics. Throughout the book Fraser presents information by means that does not bore the reader. Her skill is in bringing forth a story with meaning and take away significance that is deeply woven into her work. Reginald was a corporate lawyer based in New York and lived there with his wife and four children. Reginald s life was rich and full of joy and happiness. Years went by and Reginald retired with his family and moved to the great state of Utah. Months later Reginald s wife died of cancer and his children all moved away to start their futures at college. At that point in time, Reginald found himself completely alone, depressed, and unable to leave his house without assistance. But why is he depressed? • 7. The Recent Repatriation Laws Set Up By Egypt And The... The recent repatriation laws set up by Egypt and the subsequent demands from other nations have stirred up great debates over who is to have possession over the priceless ancient artifacts. In the last few decades many countries including Egypt have proclaimed that they want the return of many of their uncovered artifacts. Egypt s demands stretch from museums in the United States to Europe, with growing controversy from both sides as to who rightfully owns these historical artifacts. Simply put, all artifacts discovered in Egypt do technically belong to Egypt. Egyptian museums should have the right to showcase the history of their ancient predecessors by showcasing the material culture of their past uncovered from that time. However, the United States along with other Western nations, particularly England counter their claim by saying that it is in the majorities interest that artifacts from around the world can be seen in universal museums . That in contrast to the museums in Egypt, a museum such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art presents to a more diverse audience who can view and appreciate the value of the greatest of family trees, in which every culture finds its branch . The argument for universal museums is coupled with the instability of Egypt that results in constant looting of Egyptian museums. Leaving us with the question of what is the best way to protect our worlds cultural heritage? Is it best if museums already in possession of ancient artifacts ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Character Traits Contribute To Benedict Arnold s Role In... Certain character traits contribute to Benedict Arnold s role in history. Benedict Arnold was an American Revolutionary War general most famous for his betrayal of the Continental Army in the year 1780. Before he turned on his fellow Patriots, Benedict Arnold was a true war hero. He was a complicated and interesting man that today is mostly remembered for just his treason. But, many people forget that before Arnold was a turncoat, he was a courageous military leader that contributed to many of the Americans victories in the Revolutionary War. Arnold was born on January 14, 1741 in Norwich, Connecticut. He was one of five children, and only him and his sister survived childhood. At age 15, Arnold ran away from home to join the Connecticut militia to fight in the French and Indian War (Gaines 11). For Arnold s education, he went to a tutor at a very young age. • 9. Vivaldi Instrumedeley Analysis The two concerts I have chosen are different in many ways, but the music itself has a lot in common. For the first concert I chose the progressive rock group Dream Theater. I chose the piece Instrumedley from their Live at Budokan video released in 2004. This video depicts the band setup on stage in the typical rock concert format. The lighting is bright and multicolored. Unlike most rock concerts, the musicians do not animate themselves to excite the crowd. They rely on the mastery of their instruments to provide the excitement. The second concert is a performance of Vivaldi s Concerto Grosso in D minor. It is performed by the Franz Listz Chamber Orchestra. The setting is that of a small gothic church in Hungary. There is no audience as the venue is used solely for the acoustics. The band Dream Theater is an American progressive metal band formed in 1985. The members met while attending Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. Their music focuses on three core elements: metal, progressive roots and melody. • 15. Increasing Number of Female Athletes Sport participation is a significant aspect of life for many female athletes beginning at a young age. With increasing female sport participation, specifically in swimming, understanding the possible implications of their chosen form of training is critical. Over years of training, an athlete generally becomes more elite and focused in one specific sport however the timing of when they choose to do so determines their chosen training pattern. The two most common forms of training are high intensity single sport participation and that of multiple sports with less time dedicated in one particular activity. With the current research showing female swimmers to start training at the age of 10 (Malina, 2010), well before typical maturity, evaluating the long term impacts is necessary. While data sport participation prior to menarche is not convincingly seen to impact growth and maturation (Malina, 2010), the impacts it may have on injuries is yet to be seen. Injury patterns have also been previously studied with female collegiate swimmers and the most common areas of injury are in the shoulder/upper arm and the back/neck (Wolf, 2009). However, in this study, intensity of training either currently or in the past was not also examined. Combining all of these facets: sport specialization, age at menarche, and their possible relationship to injuries has yet to be done. There are countless posts that might be perceived as aggressive, argumentative, assertive and responsive. Looking through the posts and comments I have made, it seems to be very clear that I have no worries about an employer going through my profile as I believe the decision of whether to hire or not should not depend on one s social media account. Then there was another post saying to temporarily withdraw from physical affection of any kind. The rationale behind that was to keep her wanting more. If you found yourself touching her first a lot, you should withdraw from a significant amount of time. That is unless she initiates it; if she initiates it, do not refuse the touch. This will subconsciously show her how much she needs you. To add onto that, I commented saying you are entitled to her body and it is her job to protect herself from unwanted affection. You should not be wasting your time guessing how much touch she is comfortable with. Start with gentle contact and then escalate quickly. • 18. My Courage In Life Courage is different for everyone, but no matter the description everyone experiences moments during life where they have to be courageous. I believe courage is being brave enough to face your fears and overcome adversities, and not look back. Many people s fears decrease as they face them more, but for me mine only got worse the more I moved, and the older I got. For many people they have to find courage to face new places and situations, which is where I have found the most courage in my life. Change is not easy and leaving everything you know is hard but I had to become courageous to overcome what I was faced with, and these difficulties have changed my life and made me a person I would have never been without them. Each person finds courage in their darkest and hardest moments in life, and here is mine. Six year olds don t know anything right? So as I sat waving from the giant moving truck to my family and friends, I had no idea my life was about to be flipped upside down and changed forever. At six it did not take courage for me to move halfway across the country, it was fun, a new adventure. Or so it seemed. New school, new friends, and a big new house. I moved again when I was six, and yet again I didn t care. It was my third move and this one I was even more excited about, because I got to move by my cousins who were my best friends. Whether Intelligence Can be Defined and Measured Accurately or Not In this essay I will look at whether intelligence can be defined and measured accurately through looking at various definitions of intelligence; including definitions from Binet, Wechsler, Terman, Hebbs, Cattel and Vernon. I will discuss a selection of more well known and popular intelligence tests ranging from Galton to Wechsler, what they measure and what they don t measure. Terman (1921) describes intelligence as a person s ability of abstract thinking (1921, cited in Heim, 1970). It seems that psychologists find it hard to reach an agreement to define intelligence, resulting in the final definition I will mention from Vernon (1969) intelligence is what intelligence tests measure (1969, cited in Howe, 1997). Although most definitions seem to have a similarity, the meaning of intelligence can vary over time and through cultures. It was once thought that intelligence was all down to a persons ability with spelling and arithmetic, whereas in the islands of the south pacific a persons ability to navigate the oceans and there spatial memory are the way to judge a persons intelligence level (MSN, 2005). It seems a nomothetic approach is needed to even attempt to measure intelligence. All tests need to be reliable, correlate with existing test scores and show face, internal and ecological validity (MSN, 2005). Intelligence tests were developed to predict school children s eventual academic results (MSN, 2005). In England in the 1880 s Galton made the first attempt at measuring intelligence. This is a 40 hectare farm on sandy loam soil which houses 1100 goats, all goats are kept in door and all food is made on site and bought to them along with their water. Only about 700 goats are being milked. These goats are milked on a rotary milk parlour, which is one of two in the country. There were 3 full time staff working and the manager. We asked the manager many questions to assist us with our internal. The answers were occasionally a bit brief due to the owner only taking over the farm about a month ago, but we received the necessary information. A guided tour took place with the owner and a full time employee. Which included us looking at the housing systems, feeding systems, the composting procedure, Milking shed and other relevant information such as the restrictions they have. Soil Impacts Having good soil structure is very important for all types of farming. To constantly provide quality feed soil with a good tilth and with plenty of nutrients is required. This is achieved by collecting urine and dung from the milk shed and is collected in ponds. The liquid is drained away and are processed through 3 screens then drained into a holding tank ready to be spread on the farm. Themes And Setting In The Book Thief By Markus Zusak In a story, the setting is vital because it not only shows the characters surroundings, which will cause them to act a certain way, but it can also help to depict a theme. In The Book Thief, a novel by Markus Zusak, just like in many other books, the central setting helps to develop themes and ideas in the novel. Liesel Meminger, a smart yet sneaky nine year old girl who experiences life in Nazi Germany, was on a train to Munich along with her mother and six year old brother, Werner. They were on their way to a foster family who agreed to care for Liesel and her sick brother, who does not end up making it. The foster family had consented to feeding the children a little better than they were currently being fed, and educating them properly. Outside of the train it was severely cold, and since Liesel s brother just died they had to bury him. Standing to Liesel s left, the grave diggers were rubbing their hands together and whining about the snow and the current digging conditions. (page 23) Because it was so snowy outside, Werner did not get a proper burial; he was just buried under the thick layers of snow. This caused Leisel to try to dig him out, but snow carved into her skin and frozen blood was all over her hands. This is only one example of when the setting affected the characters actions. Later, when Liesel and her mother arrived in Molchig, a small town in Munich, they approach the foster home. It was on Himmel street, where, as Death, the narrator of the story ... Whether the audience feels good or bad about whom or what you present is not as important as the fact that they feel something. Bertolt Brecht s Mother Courage and Her Children is a perfect example of a work that doesn t leave us in very high spirits but touches us in such a way that it becomes even more powerful than if it had. Wouldn t you think the death of a child would affect a mother to the point of agony? But it doesn t seem to reach Mother Courage on this level. Why is it, that in spite of losing all her children, Mother Courage fails to see the light? She conducts business even at the end, paying for Kattrin s burial. Basically, she has learned nothing, saying, quot;I must get back into business. quot; Although Brecht wants us to condemn her for her sentiments at the end, it is difficult to do so. Part of the problem is that we are not presented with a better alternative. Had she not conducted business at each moment when her children were killed, then she would not have been able to feed her remaining family. So, while we may not agree with her outlook on life, it is difficult to condemn her for her actions. Kattrin s body is kept onstage in the last scene because it represents the death of selflessness. Helping others does not pay; by keeping the body onstage, Brecht is showing the audience that only people like Mother Courage can survive in the world. By making us despise Mother Courage, Brecht is trying to get his audience to realize that the world in which we live needs to be changed. Kattrin represents an alternative and idealized world that cannot yet exist in our own world. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Consequently, in the short term, my goal is to gain knowledge and skills related to research and teaching especially during my PhD program. Additionally, in the long run, I will spend most of my time practicing the knowledge and skills that I will have already acquired by teaching classes and seminars, doing research projects, as well as writing qualified academic articles and books. I will dedicate most of the time that I have after gaining a Doctorate degree in Business to the advancement of the academic excellence. In the meantime, I realize that at the moment my business knowledge is predominantly empirical gained mostly from my background experience both professional and academic (MBA). It is wide in nature as it covers many aspects of business practices. Yet, I miss the depth of the business knowledge. Therefore, my understanding on a more theoretical background of business and economic phenomena is limited. Pursuing a doctoral study would undoubtedly be necessary for me to enhance my understanding, particularly in terms of theory and concept. Family is messy and it takes effort on everyone s part to make it function correctly. Is there such thing as a perfect family? No, absolutely not. That s the message that I got from watching Parenthood. Although hilarious, it was an accurate depiction of a family. I can easily relate to Gill s family, especially Kevin. When I was a little girl I was anxious about everything. I was anxious over things that really shouldn t be weighing on a little girls mind. When my family and I would be driving, whether it being across town or across the state, I was a backseat driver. I would be strapped into my car seat, fretting about the weather or if my father was getting too close to another car. When I would hear the gas light come on, I would freak out. I was so terrified that we would run out of gas and be stranded on the road, and I could never calm down unless we pulled over right that minute at a nearest gas station to fill up the car. Lena immediately discredits the idea, using arguments saying that Walter s priority isn t family. One can recall that Lena s late husband was described as a hard worker, with family at the center of everything he did. Not only that, but Lena, being older and living differently than she is now, has grown up with different sets of hardships and therefore values. Both contribute to her ideals revolving around being there for family, of which don t include a get rich quick scheme. This is seen when Lena reveals that she put a down payment for a house, and giving her reasoning behind it. Lena wants to get a newer house, that allows them to live comfortably, and the amenities that contribute to this are a bedroom for Travis and a garden for herself. The garden refers back to the little plant Lena has in the kitchen. Like her plant, it is small and worn, but is representative of the hope within her. The plant would then transform into a garden, demonstrating that Lena has bounties of hope and is flourishing with the opportunity to grow her security for her family and herself. Another important thing to note is that Lena never imposes her children with ideas about the world. Although at times she tries to wane them off certain ideas, these ideas pertaining to her hardships and religious beliefs, she generally is very accepting of what her children do. It is nearly impossible to establish a working definition of madness itself, because there are so many different forms of madness shown throughout time, as well as different contexts. It breaks down to subjectivity, along with time and place, and situational circumstances. In Edgar Allan Poe s Tell Tale Heart, a perhaps unusual form of madness rears it s head, the madness of passion, and how too much exertion on a single passion may in fact lead to madness. The poem s influential message is expressed these elements of speech. The use of figurative language, imagery and symbolism in Invictus revolve around the theme that a person is in charge of their own fate. Many metaphor, similes and personification flow throughout the poem; they help enrich the images and feelings that Henley describes. The first stanza contains a vast amount of imagery beginning with the second line using the simile Black as the pit from pole to pole (2) to convey that his illness was a dark and miserable time and that his pain was so severe that it went from the South to the North pole. The second stanza contains another piece of imagery, which is, My head is bloody, but unbowed (8). In this line he defines his deceitful fate and the punishment fate has put him through. The word unbowed shows the strong self control he has accomplished during his struggle. This line is probably most important to the meaning as a whole because it displays how strong and courageous the author is. In the third stanza, Henley says, Beyond this place of wrath and tears (9). In this line he is portraying a flash of anger and grief; this reveals what Henley actually felt during the time of his sickness. The use of the imagery runs through the poem to make the details vivid and make the story come to life. With the use of imagery comes the use of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Masculinity In The Grapes Of Wrath In The Grapes of Wrath, the main source of their hardship is the being kicked off of their land; however, the antagonistic force is the selfishness of the human race. John Steinbeck portrayed the hardships of the Dust Bowl and the Great Depression for families like the Joads through this book, and it all started off with families getting forced off of their property. That was the root of all the hardships that would come later in the book. The Bad Guy in The Grapes of Wrath was not the banks, the landowners or the police. The sonnet constructs a complex idea that the themes of life and death can be connected together. The poem contains three quatrains and one couplet. The part where the speaker says bare ruined choirs could be referring to the tree being bare when the leaves fall and where late the sweet birds sang don t sing on the tree anymore. Line four is symbolizing that when the speaker was youthful the sweet birds would sing and the speaker is now older and he realizes that he has gotten older. The first quatrain is a metaphor of life and how people age and get older. In an article written by Bernhard Frank, Frank expresses that Shakespeare used the logic of pathos, building our empathy from ruefulness for the yellow leaves, through resignation, to tender sympathy. (Frank). There are many ways to interpret the first quatrain but Shakespeare may be pulling on the emotions of the reader. The second quatrain also starts the beginning of a new metaphor, unlike the first quatrain the second quatrain focuses on the time of the day instead of the time of the year. In the fifth line of the poem the speaker is saying that the reader can see him in the last part of the day after the sun has set and there is light still in the horizon but it s fading away. The line break between line five and six is very brief, and this may have been down on purpose because the speaker s explanation of where the reader can see him during the day is a long explanation and the idea needs two lines so to understand line five ...
