Section B1: Financial ratio calculation and analysis
1. Introduction
In this report, the profitability and liquidity of Super Retail Group Ltd (SUL) and The Reject Shop Ltd
(TRS) will be compared by analysing these ratios return on assets, profit margin, gross profit rate,
cash flow to sales ratio and acid ratio. In addition, we will also focus on the ratios change between the
two companies from year 2010 to 2011 and reveal what these ratios illustrate and how they would
influence the future performance and which company performs better.

Meanwhile, it showed in TRS s annual report (2011) that with the execution of Disaster Recovery
Plan, together with the insurance coverage, the negative influence of the natural disaster can be
minimized. TRS plans to open 16 new stores as well. It is believed that TRS also has a good
opportunity for further profit growth.
2.2 Liquidity Analysis
2.2.1 Cash Flow to Sales Ratio (CFTSR)
|Company Name |2011 |2010 |Rate of change 10 11 |
|TRS |3.55% |6.88% | 48.4% |
|SUL |6.49% |5.60% |15.8% |
Generally speaking, the liquidity of SUL was worse than that of TRS in 2010. However, the position
reversed in 2011. The CFTSR of SUL was 5.60% in 2010 and 6.49% in 2011. But for TRS, the
CFTSR was decreased sharply from 6.88% (2010) to 3.55% (2011).
TRS experienced a drastic decline of its CFTSR from 2010 to 2011. According to TRS s financial
reports (2011), even though the sales revenue of TRS increased 7.3% in 2010, its cost of goods sold
ascended dramatically by 16.0% as well. Meanwhile, its operating expenses increased by 9.5%.
For SUL, the situation is totally different due to the drop of its cost of sales by 11.6% and the drop of
its operating expenses by 20.5% from

Taking a Look at Flu H5N1
################################################# Part 2
################################### There are multiple different sources for epidemiological
measures used for tracking and reporting the number of cases. There are websites where you can go to
post confirmed cases in areas, where that information is then taken and calculated. There are also
places that provide charts for the amount of confirmed outbreaks and then separates them from human
cases and avian cases. But the best types of reports available are the map tracking ones. Where they
give distinction marks for avian and human cases and all over the different areas of the world. This is
very handy for seeing how bad and large an outbreak is and what species is affected, whether it is
humans or birds. The incidence rate is a measure of morbidity and number of infected worldwide,
looking over the past 10 years. Over the past ten years there have 650 infected.(Yu Chan, 2014). This
is not a large number because of the fact it is not spread through human to human contact but through
already infected poultry. The prevalence rate is the number of current/existing cases worldwide. The
United States has yet to have a confirmed outbreak because we set such high regulations on the meat
we sell in our markets, thus preventing a large outbreak from hitting our country. The mortality rate is
the number of deaths caused by the H5N1 virus worldwide. For

The Pros And Cons Of Texas Seceded From The United States
This research assignment goes through the idea of Texas seceding from the United States. The
introduction goes through a thorough explanation of the history of Texas and the many difficult
challenges the territory had to face in becoming a state. The first idea implemented is how many times
Texas has seceded and the reasons for seceding. The next follows information on why Texas would be
better off seceding from the United States and why it should have stayed as a Republic. In contrast,
the similar idea develops advantages and disadvantages of having Texas seceded from the Union. As a
result, it then transitions into another idea, is Texas better off with staying with the United States after
all. In that slide it also talks about how the Texas

China s Factories and Sweatshop
China Sweatshop
When you go shopping to Walmart or Apple ask yourself where your product is coming from. China
has numerous sweatshop factories assembling USA s products from stores as Apple and Walmart.
China s Sweatshop tends to violate human labor s rights by forcing overtime and going under the
mandatory minimum wage and other violations as long hour without pay, sexual, and physical
harassment. China s sweatshop factory tends to be quite popular because is cheap labor, free trade
zone, or low fee rates in taxes. The reason store as Apple and Walmart has their product to be
assembled in China s factory is to avoid high export fees. Since Walmart and Apple factory s locations
was identified and it came public in the media it shocked the world of its employee s cruel working s
condition. Factors in China are located in Guangdong Province Songang or in Shenzhen. For example
Foxconn is a factory located in Shenzhen where Apple send their electronic to be assembled and
made. In China the majority workers in factories is occupy by women and children. The percentage of
women in China s Sweatshops is ninety percents. In China, the majority working in sweatshop are
women which are young and not educated; in addition, forcing them to be ignorant of their own legal

Callicles Vs Socrates
In Gorgias, Plato presents a series of conversations Socrates has with Gorgias and Callicles that
explore oratory and the rules of law and nature. Socrates criticism of oratory and espousement of the
rule of law imply a dislike for democracy, but for different reasons than Callicles dislike. Through
these conversations, Plato suggests that democracy is actually a rule of nature with orators as the
superiors. Socrates and Callicles converse about the rule of law and the rule of nature because
Callicles wants Socrates to talk only about one, especially the rule of nature. Callicles has a problem
with the way Socrates spoke with Polus and accuses him of grandstanding in ... speeches because he

As stated before, Callicles believes the people who institute ... laws are the weak and many and that it
s a just thing for the better man and the more capable man to have a greater share than the worse man
and the less capable man (483b, 483d). He wishes for a society where the better deserve to have more
and do get more than what the lesser get. Thus, he hates democracy. He believes democracy would
take away from those who deserve more and would give the lesser more power than needed. Socrates,
on the other hand, fears the power of orators over uneducated masses. Socrates makes clear from
Gorgias that oratory doesn t need to have any knowledge of the state of their subject matters and that it
only needs to have discovered a persuasion device to make itself appear to those who don t have any
knowledge that it knows more than those who actually do have it (459c). Socrates is concerned that
the public can be convinced by orators to do things that orators have no knowledge of. Socrates wants
people s soul to stay pure and avoid corruption. However, if people listen to an orator in a democracy
and do something unjust, they would have no punishment because they would be the ones who agreed
upon the action. Thus, Socrates favors when the masses listen to someone who knows what is just. For
Socrates, democracy can be arbitrary based on the whims of orators and what they see fit ending up in

In Genetically Engineered Food the author starts by defining what the term is and then proceeds to
bring up the question of whether this is a good or bad idea. Phillips does a great job by not showing
bias because she then proceeds to her Overview in which she explain about the topic and gives
examples that support both sides of the argument. Many of these examples are real life examples from
people around the US. Phillips then goes on to her next section called Background which she explains
in a different way than her overview. In this section she sticks more to the scientific side of how things
are done and the history of it such as how long these GMO methods have been done. Her Background
section describes more research ideas than

The Pros And Cons Of Corruption In The World Bank
The bank has been criticized for giving loans to countries with corrupted government (Behar, 2012).
Corruption is a major problem in developing countries. Millions of loans in financial assistance would
be rendered ineffective if such countries were run by corrupted governance. Many World Bank s
projects have failed due to the corrupted government in these developing nations (Behar, 2012).
In response, the World Bank Institution was set up in 2000 to fight against corruption by increasing
the transparency of governments. By using the Capacity Development Results Framework (CDRF),
the bank is able to design, implement, monitor, and evaluate development programs (Otoo, Agapitova
and Behrens, 2009). Kim Jing Yong, incumbent president of the World Bank, commented on the
success of the program: When corruption threatened to derail a critical power project for southern
African countries, the World Bank intervened, preventing more than $6 million dollars from being
misused. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The US alone holds 20% of votes, whereas 47 sub Saharan African countries altogether only hold 7%

countries at the expense of the poor. One such decision includes structural adjustment programs
(SAPs) attached to loans. SAPs require debtors to welcome foreign investment and privatize national
companies, inviting competition to the debtors domestic firms (Shah, 2013). Over time, demand and
labour from these poor nations shift to the wealthier corporations, subsequently relying on them for
economic growth, while wealthier corporations enjoy growing profits from these poorer nations. In
response, World Bank ambiguously replied that they provide advice based on the needs and

The Relationship Between Profanity And Honesty
Swearing has many meanings in the current world. The connotation of those swear words is different
based upon the person hearing it. Reading the article Frankly, we do give a damn: Study finds links
between swearing and honesty, has shown insight to this incredibly touchy subject. Profanity has been
used lots in pop culture in the past hundred years, from gone with the wind 80 years ago, to the most
recent presidency. Cursing also has a definitive tie to lying and deception. 8 10 sentence requirement
80 years ago, it was absolutely unforgivable to use profanity in a televised broadcast or film. The
impact that it has on us socially has changed quite a bit. The most surprising use was in 1939 when in
the movie Gone With The Wind, Clark Gable muttered the memorable line Frankly my dear, I don t
give a damn. That line alone cost the producers of the movie 5,000 dollars in fines. In the movies and
television shows of today, profane words are peppered ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Sometimes, what you want to know is not always what you want to hear, which means, you want to

they were answering in a socially acceptable way or if they were being truthful. It was found that the

Toad Revisited Larkin
This poem is Larkin s monologue about work. Larking walks through a park and even though he finds
it an appealing and pleasurable sight, he would rather like to keep himself busy with work. He does
not want to be lazy like the people at the park but would rather like to perform his duties meticulously
so that when he dies he can have the satisfaction of having worked so hard. Toad Revisited is Larkin s
mental debate in which he weighs the advantages and disadvantages of work and of leisure; and
comes to the definite conclusion that work is preferable to sloth or to leisure unlike the people around
him. Toad work refers to the easy work that people do that does not need much intelligence or skills.
Their jobs are easy which therefore, in Larkin s view, makes them lazy. He is the opposite of these
people as he is intelligent and educated which is why he needs a break and walks through the park
unlike the rest of them. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Work, which the people he sees in the park avoid by being lazy. He is saying, although work is still
unpleasant (like a toad), it is something that gives him a sense of purpose. It s something that will help
him in life and he will do it until the end of his life. He has accepted the fact that working for him is
preferable to not working, and he actually asks the toad (work) to help him through the rest of his life
as he walks down Cemetery road, which is a place of death. Larkin means he is going to work at his
current job that he might not necessarily like until he dies, which gives us a sense that he is at ease
with doing so he sees that the alternative is far worse (the alternative being the people at the park).
There is therefore an acceptance of the toad work as being not only necessary but also

Hume s Wide Construal of the Virtues Essay
Hume s Wide Construal of the Virtues
ABSTRACT: The term virtue has traditionally been used to designate morally good character traits
such as benevolence, charity, honesty, wisdom, and honor. Although ethicists do not commonly offer a
definitive list of virtues, the number of virtues discussed is often short and their moral significance is
clear. Hume s analysis of the virtues departs from this tradition both in terms of the quantity of virtues
discussed and their obvious moral significance. A conservative estimate of the various virtues Hume
refers to in his moral writings would put the number at around seventy, with the more untraditional
ones including wit, good manners, and dialog. Unsurprisingly, Hume s critics have attacked ... Show

Hume s analysis of the virtues departs from this tradition both in terms of the quantity of virtues he
discusses and their obvious moral significance. A conservative estimate of the various virtues Hume
refers to in his moral writings would put the number at around seventy, with the more untraditional
ones including wit, good manners, and dialog. Not surprisingly, Hume s critics, past and present, have
attacked him for making nonsense of the concept of virtue by construing it so widely. For example,
Philippa Foot argues that, ... one does not find in Hume an account of the difference between skills or
talents and virtues and he even says that there is no reason to consider virtue as something distinct. I
suppose it is partly due to Hume s influence that this important topic, which was splendidly treated by
Aristotle and Aquinas, is hardly discussed by modern moral philosophers. (1)
Hume was aware that his broad understanding of virtue was controversial and he offered several
defenses for his position. After presenting the neglected attacks of his contemporaries, and Hume s
response, I will argue that a problem remains: by failing to distinguish between degrees of virtue,
Hume also fails to distinguish between degrees of vice. But, some vices such as malevolence clearly
deserve punishment whereas other alleged vices such as uncleanliness clearly do not. Thus, for
adequate retribution, a distinction is needed between important and less

The past semester a core class I took was Politics of Climate Change. I ve learned many new ideas and
concepts about climate change. Now that I am educated on the matter and can form my own opinion, I
was curious about what the people I surround myself with think about climate change. I asked many
different people about their thoughts and opinions on climate change. I questioned my tutors, stem
major friends, my parents, and siblings. I was most interested with what my mother, Oyindamola
Eletu, and my sister, Omobukola Solebo, had to say about this important topic. I was particularly
interested in what my immigrant, democratic, and religious mother would say on the tasking situation.
My sister is a high school biology teacher in California who graduated from TCNJ in 2014 with a
double major in education and biology. After interviewing them both, I began to compare and contrast
their views and how they came to them. Incidentally, the woman of my family all believe that climate
change is real and an important matter at hand. We all think it should be handled and decided on now
and stop being put on the back burner. My mother and sister had similar views but different ways of
getting to that decision. My mom does not particularly like science or take interest in its findings, she
doesn t have a degree from America, and did not learn about climate change growing up. But she
watched what was reported on television and got educated by the things they showed her. She

The Apology Of Socrates In Book I Of The Republic
The Apology shows how other people perceive Socrates actions and how Socrates himself perceives
his actions; these different views are then evident in Book I of the Republic. The Greek word apologia
means defense. In The Apology of Socrates, Socrates is defending himself and his actions because of
the accusations against him corrupting the youth, atheism, and making the weaker argument the
stronger. As a philosopher, Socrates is dangerous to the city because of the relationship between
reason and revelation. Reason seeks to find why things are done in a certain way, and if they are found
to be done in an inadequate way, this inquisition calls into question the authority who are over the city.

However, Socrates asks if it is good to give back a madman a weapon he had loaned, because while
that fits Cephalus definition of justice, it is clear that no one could benefit from it. It is because of
Socrates innocently challenging important well respected men that was accused and put on trial.
Polemarchus takes on a similar definition of justice: justice is going good to friends and harm to
enemies (I, 332d). As a refutation to this, Socrates brings up the point that not every friend is actually
a good person and not every enemy is bad, which would be doing injustice to that person. Disproving
Polemarchus could be thought of as an example where Socrates is corrupting the youth which leads to
his being on trial. Thrasymachus argues that justice is the interest of the stronger. When Thrasymachus
makes this case, Socrates does not inquire but cross examines him, which gives the impression that
Socrates just wishes to put Thrasymachus out of business and does not care about actually changing
his mind. This also, presents another opportunity for Socrates to be accused of corrupting the

The Image Of The Original Design By Evoking Less Distress
It is the shifting of emotion from one idea to another that resembles the original in some qualities or
aspects. This movement permits the symbolic representation of the original design by evoking less
distress. In other words, displacement is when a person represses feelings of affection or fear or
impulses that they feel towards another person. They recognize that their feelings are either irrational
or socially unacceptable and therefore cannot be publicly demonstrated. The psyche in turn prevents
these emotions from being converted into inappropriate actions. However, since the feelings continue
to exist, they are instead displaced towards another person or animal whom it is acceptable to express
such sentiments against. For example, a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rationalization occurs as a result of a person attempting to explain or create an excuse for an event or
action in rational terms. In doing so, they are able to avoid accepting the true cause or reason that has
resulted in the persons present situation. For example, a shoplifter that blames their action of theft on
greedy capitalists who care more about making money than making goods affordable. Rationalization
is a widely used defense mechanism, especially in attempts to excuse mistakes to avoid condemnation
by others and themselves. A common example of rationalization is expressed in the adage, sour grapes
. An example of rationalization that I have witnessed is someone that I know who refuses to stop
smoking because she is going to inevitably die one day. She excuses her addiction by dismissing its
harmful effects and uses the unavailability of death as the rationalization to continue her behavior.
Dissociation Temporary and drastically modifying one s character or one s sense of personal identity
to avoid emotional distress. The use of dissociation as a defense mechanism tends to involve
temporary loss of a person s connection to the world surrounding them. People experiencing
disassociation often describe feeling separated from the outside world, as though they exist in a
different realm. Dissociation often helps people to cope with very uncomfortable situations

The Kidnappinging Of The Lindbergh And The Kidnappings
March 1, 1932 just after 10:00 pm Betty Gow, a nursemaid for the notorious Lindbergh family,
approached Anne Lindebergh asking if she had taken the baby from his nursery room. Moments later
it was discovered that the baby had been kidnapped directly from the second story of the Lindbergh s
home and a ransom note for 50,000 dollars left on the windowsill. News Fig. 1 traveled fast and soon
Newspapers alike were reporting on the kidnapping on the Lindbergh s infant child(Fig1) where the
only evidence left was the ransom note, the ladder, a chisel, and the absence of the child. All hope
seemed lost when even after the ransom was paid the infant came up dead in the woods not far from
the home with few evidence leading to who might have done this terrible act, but little did they know
the evidence found was just enough to catch the kidnapper. On September, 1934 Bruno Richard
Hauptmann, a carpenter from the Bronx, was discovered using a ten dollar gold note ransom bill to
pay for gas linking him directly to the crime. Following the Incarceration police found $14,000 of the
Lindbergh s money stashed in the suspect garage and various other evidence linking him to the
kidnapping(1). Case The case began with a search of the premises soon after the child had been found
missing which yielded in the discovery of a ransom note demanding $50,000 for the return of the
child. Traces of mud were next unearthed on the floor of the nursery while unidentifiable footprints

Minoan Crete Research Paper
The first great age of Minoan Crete was the Old Palace period(2000 1700B.C),during which huge
labyrinthine palaces were built at Knossos, Phaistos, Malia and Zakros. In these palaces the power and
wealth of the island were concentrated, and around them the political, social, economic and religious
life of the island revolved. The manner in which these buildings and their various servicing systems
were constructed is quite remarkable. In 1700 B.C. a great earthquake shook the island and the palaces
were laid in ruins. In a very short time, however, new palaces were built on the ruins of the old in an
architectural style expressive of the Minoan love of nature and desire to live in a world of light and
charm.
The Mycenaean civilization flourished during the period roughly between 1600 BC, when Heliadic
culture in mainland Greece was transformed under influences from Minoan Crete, and 1100 BC, when
it perished with the collapse of Bronze Age civilization in the eastern Mediterranean. Mycenaean
artifacts have been found well outside the limits of the Mycenaean world: namely Mycenaean swords

Pros And Cons Of Netflix
Monopolies

James Coward Abstract Most Americans tend to put very little thought into the companies that supply
them with their goods and services, however, even less tend to think about how those companies have
a monopoly on the market and what affect that has on small businesses and local producers and
consumers. Aside from the game of Monopoly, few people have had any real desire to control a
market or hold a majority of the shares in a particular sector; these following companies have a

A lot of people rely on them without even realizing it. Some of the cons of monopolies include price
fixing that is associated with a monopoly being able to set whichever price they choose for a product
or service simply because the law allows them to do so and there is no viable substitute that can
compete with the monopoly company s product. As has been stated multiple times, monopolies
control the market and are able to provide inferior goods if they so choose at the standard rate.
Monopolies are able to reduce operating costs while keeping prices fixed or elevated. Competition
typically breeds innovation. Companies are searching for the newest and greatest product that will
continue to keep them on top of the market. When a monopoly has a grip on a market, the need to be
innovative and appealing to their customers can quite often disappear. Until the next generation of
technology comes around that allows customers to have an acceptable substitute for the monopoly s
product, customers can be stuck with inferior technology for much longer than is

value.Nevertheless, a valuation enables to get a large overview in order to take an investment
decision. For that reason valuation is a strategic aspect in many areas of finance. In corporate finance,
the firm s value aims to be as high as possible and will have an effect on corporate decisions,
including projects to develop and where to find funds, and on the dividend policy.
In such a way to study the topic, we will discuss first the Net Asset Value and its advantages and
disadvantages, then the Discounted cash flow method and to finish the dividend discount model.
The net asset value (NAV) method measures the value of a fund s assets. It enables investors to
analyse a fund s performance market and industry standards such as Moody s.
The NAV is the book value of equity, in other words the total value of a company s assets less its
liabilities total value.
The first advantage to the Net Asset Value is the availableness of the data it performs.
It also allows adjustments. Then, it is

Canada, the United States and the Cold War
After the end of World War Two, the world was split into two, east and west. This marked the
beginning of an era called the Cold War. The Cold War was the most subtle war in history, but the
world came very close to a nuclear war that had the potential to inevitably wipe out mankind. The two
main opponents in this war were the Soviet Union and the United States. With Canada being the
United States neighbour to the north and close to The Soviet Union geographically, Canada allied
itself with the United States. This union cause a lot of political trauma, but it brought a lot of new
technology to Canada and helped strengthen our relationship with the United States. Therefore Canada
did ally with the United States, but at the same time Canada ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

With Canada being close to the Soviets geographically, any attack made by them, whether it was a
nuclear strike or an air invasion, they would have to go near or over Canadian airspace in order to
attack. Therefore Canada and the United States reached an agreement to create an organization which
would control Aerospace in North America. This U.S Canadian organization was called NORAD (The
North American Aerospace Defence Command) and was founded on May 12, 1958 . This organization
would detect man made objects coming into North American airspace, such as Soviet bombers or
nuclear warheads. This organization uses aircraft to protect North America from attack. While
NORAD would control the skies of North America, it would also monitor the Maritime regions as
well. Previous to the establishment of this organization, Canada and the United States also agreed to a
long series of radar stations in the Canadian arctic. Known as the DEW line (Distant Early Warning),
these radar stations would be used to detect Soviet aircraft coming into North American Airspace. In
addition to this DEW Line, which stretched from Alaska to Greenland, Canada also had two more
lines of radar stations called The Mid Canada Line , and The Pine Tree Line . These radar stations
were constructed during the Cold War Era to protect North America from potential Soviet invasion,
though the radar lines became obsolete with the invention of Intercontinental ballistic missiles

Racial Discrimination During The 20th Century
Starting in 1501, white Portuguese men enslaved over five million Africans and brought them back to
Brazil to work on sugar plantations, creating a power dynamic that has lasted for centuries. After
nearly four hundred years of slavery, freed black men and women were left with no education, place to
live, or family, placing them at an economic disadvantage from the beginning. In the late nineteenth
and early twentieth centuries, following emancipation, white men began to procreate with indigenous
and African women, creating a mixed or mulatto race, which led to the false identification of Brazil as
a country with a racial democracy. However, darker skinned individuals still remained at the bottom of
the racial hierarchy, facing systems of social, economic, and educational discrimination. The racial
inequalities, products of historical legacy, have resulted in a society that has severe racial
stratifications and continues to subject Afro Brazilians to prejudice, poverty, and police brutality.
Although racial discrimination in contemporary Brazilian society is pervasive, particularly noticeable
in the lack of economic and social mobility, discrimination is not a new phenomenon in Brazil, but
rather the culmination of 500 years of historical inequities rooted in slavery, eugenics, immigration
policy, the process of miscegenation, and the myth of racial democracy . Brazil s racial history has led
to the formation of a society in which darker skinned individuals face

Why Same Sex Couples Should Be Allowed to Legally Marry
Why Same Sex Couples Should be Allowed to Legally Marry
All men were created equal. It is for this reason that gays have the same rights when it comes to
housing, jobs, protection under the law, and so on, despite their difference in sexual preference. Well
then, if gays have the same rights as heterosexual men and women, why can they not be legally
married in the U.S? That is the question that half our country should be asking themselves, since 50%
of U.S citizens oppose gay marriage. However, extraordinarily, 75% of the people in the U.S are all
for gay rights (Bidstrup). But, when it comes to marriage, for one reason or another, the line is drawn.

As the case with various arguments, there are all whom will take the slippery slope argument approach
in their reasoning for the banning of gay marriage. A slippery slope argument is a point in which one
thing happening will lead to another thing happening, triggering a domino effect of negative
consequences from one single action. In this case, the argument at hand would be that along with the
legalization of gay marriage comes the allowing of bestial marriage, polygamy, and many other
wrongs (Bidstrup). This tactic of scaring people of accepting the beneficial consequences of one
rational decision is absurd. In countries where gay marriage is legal, there has been no talk of any such
changes or disgusting tendencies. In many Scandinavian countries where same sex marriages are
allowed, society has remained sound (Bidstrup). If anything, marriages between criminals and those
who lack morals would lead towards the anarchy that would occur with bestial marriages and
polygamy. Those who have homosexual preferences do not share any of the same moral defects as do
the criminals that can wed freely. Society needs to open their eyes to the normality of homosexuality
and the benefits of gay marriage will be exposed. There are those who believe that gay marriage
defeats the purpose of the bonding between two different gendered people in reproduction. The idea
that gay marriage should be disallowed because two same sex partners can t reproduce is

Protect Pollinator Populations
Why Regulations Are Needed to Protect Pollinator Populations
Currently, an estimated 3.2 million tons of pesticides are used each year (Hicks, 2012).
Pesticides are normally misused by people with little knowledge or care for their harmful effects.
Without effective enforcement of regulations, pesticides are easily spread beyond their projected
areas. According to research, the overuse of pesticides causes many human diseases, animal diseases,
and disruptions in our ecosystem. Well defined regulations, along with consumer education, could
limit the misuse of pesticides and protect our fragile pollinator populations from continued decline to
help ensure future food sources for many generations to come.

Farmers only use 17% (Lah, 2011). Chlorine is also harmful to bees, which are the main animal

ingredients in many pesticides. Multiple pesticide products used by homeowners have manufacture
recommended rates for applications 120x higher than rates for agriculture crops (Jennifer Hopwood,

An estimated 2.2 million people are at risk due to exposure from agricultural pesticides, with the

Aaron Hines, a freshman at Fairmont State University, says that one of his fondest memories of

Collection And Monitoring Of Particulate Matter
Collection and monitoring of Particulate Matter:
The aerodynamic properties of particles determine how they are transported in air and how they can
be removed from it. These properties also govern how far they get into the air passages of the
respiratory system. Additionally, they provide information on the chemical composition and the
sources of particles. Particles have irregular shapes and their aerodynamic behaviour is expressed in
terms of the diameter of an idealised sphere. The sampling and description of particles is based on this
aerodynamic diameter, which is usually simply referred to as particle size . Particles having the same
aerodynamic diameter may have different dimensions and shapes. Some airborne particles are over
10,000 times bigger than others in terms of aerodynamic diameter.
Based on size, particulate matter is often divided into two main groups: o The coarse fraction contains
the larger particles with a size ranging from 2.5 to 10 µm (PM10 PM2.5). o The fine fraction contains
the smaller ones with a size up to 2.5 µm (PM2.5). The particles in the fine fraction which are smaller
than 0.1 µm are called ultrafine particles.
Most of the total mass of airborne particulate matter is usually made up of fine particles ranging from
0.1 to 2.5 µm. Ultrafine particles often contribute only a few percent to the total mass, though they are
the most numerous, representing over 90% of the number of particles.
Airborne particulate matter represents a complex

Analysis Of Nathaniel Branden s The Art Of Living
The Art of Living Consciously: The Power of Awareness to Transform Everyday Life, Nathaniel
Branden challenges his readers to turn up the light of consciousness, explaining that consciousness
exists on a continuum, and our choice is between living more or less consciously. Consciousness is
our basic tool for successful modification to reality. The more conscious we are in any situation, the
more possibilities we tend to notice, the more options we have, the more powerful we are, even the
longer we will live. To deny oneself of consciousness is to live unconsciously, in a life drained of
color, excitement or passion. Living consciously means seeking to be aware of everything that abides
on our actions, purposes, values, and goals; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Branden s facility in explaining these subjects is inspirational; he has many visions into the subject
matter, and it is often enlightening to see how he introduces these ideas to the inexperienced. Chapter
two explains the free will as a function of mental focus, the fact that context determines what level of
focus is appropriate, how one learns to run some activities on automatic and the motives for fleeing
focus. Branden s technique of sentence completion, familiar from his previous works, is also
explained here. Chapters one and two are the basis for Branden s theory by exploring the nature of
human consciousness and its suitable association to reality. Chapters three and four describe in detail
the meaning of full consciousness and its connection to happiness. Chapter three takes up the need to
consider the consequences inferred in one s actions, the need to consider the knowledge required for
success, and the need to cope feelings that pull one away from focus. Chapter four first deals with
areas that one must bring consciousness, including romantic, familial, and professional relations, and
then with the need for a consciousness of one s context and ideas. Chapter five strains the importance
of directing awareness toward the details of one s inner world , the body, needs, wants, emotions, and
actions.

Differences Between The Movie And The Great Gatsby
Old Money Problems: A Comparison of The Great Gatsby Adaptations For a story rich in symbolism
and recurring themes, F. Scott Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby fails to fully depict its own characters as
being careless rather, the movie version, directed by Baz Luhrmann, is able to use its medium with
more success to achieve it properly. Through analyzing the affair and poor choices of an infidelious
husband and the false obliviousness and thoughtless decisions of a young woman, the true variances
between the mediums can and will be found. In regards to Tom Buchanan s status as a careless person
, the film certainly has a more accurate portrayal than the novel. Tom s affair with Myrtle plays a
pivotal role in this, as the way he goes about going to his New York apartment with her has significant
differences between both formats of the narrative. In the book, Tom makes it a point to sit in a separate
car from Myrtle on the train into New York to avoid suspicion from any East Eggers, who may be
riding on it as well; In the movie, however, it simply cuts away from the front of George Wilson s
garage to inside the apartment, with no reference to careful organizing on Tom s part, nor any effort at
all to keep themselves secret. Although this can be chalked up to necessary cuts to the movie, the
quick switch from outside the garage to inside the apartment is more effective in making Tom seem
careless with how others will see him, with no discreteness to cover up his affair. Tom s

Since pre Islamic times Mecca has always been known as a sacred site, however due to mass
construction and modernization, the sacredness of this holy city may be slowly dying. Mecca contains
the Holy Mosque and the Kaaba. The Kaaba is a tall, box like structure which stands in a courtyard in
the center of the Holy Mosque, and it became established as the main object of pilgrimages to Mecca
(Dictionary of Islamic Architecture). Mecca is the birth place of the prophet Muhammad and contains
a lot of important historical sites such as the site where Muhammad was born, the house of the prophet

I think that there are two sides. One being the Saudi Arabian government who operate under
Wahhabism, in which they think that it is good to demolish Islamic historical sites (such as the
birthplace of Muhammad, or the house he lived in) because they see it as encouraging sinful idolatry. I
get that they think that people may start worshiping those historical sites and lose focus on the heart of
Islam, but I don t think that is their only motive. I think that the Saudi Arabian government sees a lot
of other cities and countries modernizing and urbanizing themselves and making advances in
architecture and having a more modern way of life, and I think they are afraid to get stuck. What I
mean by that is they are afraid that because the holy mosque is in Mecca, that there city will never
make cultural advances but rather be stuck back in the time of the prophet. It is easy to forget that
Mecca is a city just like any other, which just happens to house the holy mosque. While it is a mainly
visited by Muslims doing the hajj, it is also visited by Nonmuslims and has other attractions than the
mosque and Kaaba and I think that the Saudi Arabian government is trying to expand that aspect of
Mecca. The other side of the argument is that in destroying historical sites, and building skyscrapers
around the mosque, it takes away for the sacredness of the place as well as the spiritual aspect of the
Hajj as a whole. I think lots people

Analysis Of The Film Black Swan
Black Swan a film made in 2010 starring Natalie Portman took us into the world of ballet dancer Nina

struggle she makes to let go and break the perfection of the White swan to become the Black Swan.
This is the story at surface value. The stories inner meaning though portrays the cycle of maturity
involved in transitions into adulthood. This cycle, I noticed, being portrayed in what appears to be
three stages. The first stage being Denial. The second being Emergence. Finally moving into the third,

She also is shown casting aside the bright colorful possessions she has by tossing them in the trash.
This shows her emergence into adulthood and the destruction of her previous innocent self. Where the
bright colors she once wore were her denial of adulthood and maintaining the perfection of innocence.
This is further proven as it is even portrayed in the credits which start out as that innocent white that
slowly transitions into full black.
The second piece of evidence is the constant appearance of mirrors throughout the movie. Be it in the
actual studio, in the dressing rooms, and in Nina s own home she is constantly surrounded by mirrors.
A quote from the New York Times states, It s in the mirror that they (ballet dancers) see both the ideal
versions of themselves they hope to show the public as well as their own failings. This proves to be
true as in the film what is portrayed throughout most of the movie is the innocence clad Nina who
strives for perfection. This at first is what she wishes to be for the public because this seems to be
what is expected. Examples being what is required of the White Swan and what her mother expects.
That being implied by her constant reference to Nina as her sweet girl . This image soon becomes her
failure as she fails to emulate the traits of the mature Black Swan by denying her own maturity. This
image changes as she does minor things such as putting on dark makeup showing she wishes to be

Conclusion
R.C Sherriff employs a very clever writing style in Journey s End, to describe Stanhope to the
audience. Before actually meeting Stanhope, the reader is left to make their own decision about
Stanhope s character. The opinions that are given of Stanhope by the other characters are fairly
accurate. Hardy s description appears to be correct at first, when Stanhope enters; his first words being
Damn the soup, bring some whisky. He uses the drink to escape from the problems of war around him.
The quick temper that Osborne described is also shown to the audience in this part of the scene.

Who Framed Roger Rabbit
For this art critique, I went up to Schumacher Galley on the fourth floor of the library on Friday
afternoon. I had never been up there before, but I had heard great reviews from friends who had

Framed Roger Rabbit. The painting was painted in 1998, with vinyl paint on celluloid, photocopy
paper. From the description of the painting, this painting is from the scene where Roger is given the
assignment to look after Baby Herman while his mother is away. He promises to look after him as if
he were looking out after one of his relatives.
My first impression from the painting is Roger is goofy and very excited to watch Baby Herman. Due
to a painting being a still frame, the artist must be able to portray the emotion of character through
shading, expressions, etc. In this particular painting, the emotion of Roger Rabbit is clearly portrayed
through his face. The entire painting is focused around him and nothing else. It is made up bright

Dream is asked to be explained or defined a common response is that it is an accomplishment of
wealth and prosperity through hard work and success, especially those living in the United States.
When searched, the American Dream is described as the ideals of freedom, equality, and opportunity
traditionally held to be available to every American (American Dream, Dictionary.com). This
description plays a major role as these are the goals that were set to come from the Civil Rights Act of
1964. Many fought for the right to be free especially when it came to racial inequality in our country
but many did not receive these benefits or opportunities of equality as there were negative and positive
effects that came directly from the Civil Rights Movement.
The first American slaves were brought to the North American colony of Jamestown, Virginia in 1619.
Their job was to aid in the production of crops such as tobacco as the Virginians were desperate for
labor, to grow enough to stay alive... needed labor, to grow corn for subsistence, to grow tobacco for
export (Zinn 24,25). The slaves that were being brought to the Americas were seen as builders of the
economic foundations of the new nation and as time passed the ownership of slaves dwindled but
inequality and segregation grew to be more prevalent in the U.S ( Slavery in America ). On January
1st, 1863 President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation, an executive order which
freed slaves in the United States not within the Confederacy, under Union Control. Two years later the
13th Amendment to the United States Constitution which abolished slavery but many Southern States
managed to create unattainable prerequisites for blacks to live, work or participate in society. With
nearly one hundred years after the Emancipation Proclamation, African Americans were still treated
just as unequally. Oppression, race inspired violence, segregation and an unequal world of
disenfranchisement lingered across Southern States for African Americans. The Jim Crow Laws

There Are No Good Reasons To Legalize Marijuana
Classical Argument
Marijuana, weed, bud, tree, grass, reefer, chronic, cannabis these are all names given to the drug that is
one of the most debated topics in the United states. Some think Cannabis should be used for medicinal
use only and, some think it should be treated like alcohol and tobacco and some think marijuana
should be outright illegal. I have a family member who has fibromyalgia, heart problems, and Lupus.
She has been prescribed pills and other treatments to help her. Not only does she take pills, but also
she is an alcoholic. She has become addicted to taking pills and drinking causing serious damage to
her body and mind. She can t control herself because of the heavy doses of pills she is prescribed.
There are times when she ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After reading articles I have come to the conclusion that yes recreational marijuana should be legal.
Reading these articles only strengthened my opinion. In the article, Marijuana should be legalized , by
Adam Ford I learned that the only ones really benefiting from pot being illegal are the illegal drug
dealers and the alcohol and tobacco industries. In the article , There Are No Good Reasons to Legalize
Marijuana. by George Wright, I learned that medicinal marijuana is used to help with nausea against
things like chemo and weed also helps with sleeping, pain relief, and stress relief. In the article This Is
Why Marijuana Should Be Legal Everywhere ,by Renee Jacques, I learned that marijuana really isn t
that dangerous compared to other drugs. Alcohol, tobacco, and pills have all caused thousands of
deaths because of overdose while marijuana has never caused a death due to overdose. Prescription
pills are legal, yet in 2010, 60% of overdoses were because of pills. After reading these articles, I
realized that marijuana really isn t that bad and could be beneficial for those who are sick and for
America in general. The legalization of marijuana would make America millions of dollars from tax
revenue and create new jobs which we are in dire need of. Cannabis also helps those who are hurting
from severe illnesses and who are in pain. Before reading these articles I was unsure of whether
Marijuana should be legal or not but, after

Worldview Is What You Think About The World
What is Worldview?
Worldview is what you see and think about the world. So it would depend on the person on what they
think about the world since everyone is different. It is what you believe of what you have heard and
would take it to heart of what you believe. For example in the book called Finding Your Worldview:
Thinking Christianly about the World, it gives an example of different color lens. When you give
others a different color lens each of them is going to be seeing it differently and that is how Worldview
works and it would impact your life when you would respond to issues in the world. A worldview
would feed off a person that would base every action, opinion and a response that they would see in
the world. So since the world is built around their life, they would share what they have seen and
experienced. People always wonder how life began or mankind comes into existence and it is hard for
someone to explain what you believe by just saying what you think is right. It tells and shows God
creating the heavens and the earth in the beginning. (Genesis 1:1). In the bible, God created the world
in six days and rested on the seventh day. (Genesis 2:1 3) Christians believe that God created us in His
own image. (Genesis 1:27) God made us to be like Him; of course we are not nearly perfect as God.
But we would have the ability to understand and learn and to obey what God has sent us down here
for. So it is believed in Christian worldview of how life began, that God

Horse Descriptive Writing
I stood in the car park of the livery yard anxiously waiting, with a new lead rope in my hands, for him
to arrive. I had checked the time on my phone about a hundred times. They were due any minute now
and I could hardly contain my excitement. To waste a little time, I ran back to the stable to check it
was ready for him, although of course I knew it was. The earthy smell of freshly laid wood chips filled
my nostrils. My mother shouted, They are here and I turned to watch a horse box trundle into the yard.
This was actually happening.
Every young girl has their fantasies; from becoming a pop star to flying around outer space. Well,
mine was to have my own horse. For as long as I can remember I have been obsessed with horses,
ponies, donkeys, basically everything and anything related to these fabulous, four legged, beautiful
beasts. Some of my first memories are of me sat on the floor of my ... Show more content on

I can still picture the horror on my mother s face as I thundered past her in the stubble fields, Arron at
full gallop and mystified, she often asks, How did I end up with such a horsey daughter? In contrast,
the smile on my face reached from ear to ear and I m sure Arron was smiling too, an enormous, toothy,
grin. Horses love speed as much their riders. By the time I was riding Arron, almost eight years had
passed since that first lesson. That childhood obsession with horses had not gone away, if anything, it
had intensified and at weekends I virtually lived at the stables. A friend owned Arron and even though
I rode her regularly, fed, watered and mucked out her stable every day, essentially catered for all her
needs, she wasn t mine. Furthermore, I knew that one day we would go our separate ways so I always
held back a little, never letting myself get too attached to her, in anticipation of the day we would say
goodbye to each other. She was the last horse I rode before

Bruce Bueno De Mesquita Expected Utility Model
In A Decision Making Model: Its Structure and Form, Bruce Bueno de Mesquita discusses the
expected utility model, which is designed to demonstrate how policy positions are affected by
competition among actors over their respected interests (Bueno de Mesquita, 1997, p. 235). With the
basis of the medium voter and monotonicity theorem, the model is portrayed as a game in which
actors first pitch their respected preferences to other participants, attempting to influence them, and
then form coalitions and adjust their own positions on the issue according to the response they receive
from other actors, repeating these steps in order as needed (Bueno de Mesquita, 1997, p. 238). Each
player in this game is aware of the potential power and stance of other actors on the policies in
question, as well as the salience those actors associate with the issues explored (Bueno de Mesquita,
1997, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The author establishes that the objective of the models is to predict the process and outcome leading to
the resolution of complex negotiations and to ascertain the possible way negotiations may end (Bueno
de Mesquita, 2011, p. 66). Before focusing on the model itself however, the article outlines changes
the new model incorporates, including heuristic rules, which are designed to govern some key
computational choices in order to ensure that the model can provide guidance as to when the game is
predicted to end . . . [and] how it is predicted to end (Bueno de Mesquita, 2011, p. 67). While such
changes to the model are necessary concessions, they should still be reevaluated in order to clarify
how they may be improved and modified over time in order to ensure that such rules do not cause
variance and affect model

If Offenders, Young People Are Expected Act Like A...
If offenders, young people are expected to act like a standard person of their age. In Mullin v
Richards, 1998, Teresa Mullin and Heidi Richards, who were friends, were sitting next to each other at
a desk in school. While playing fighting with plastic rules, using them as swards, Teresa Mullin was
injured by a fragment of the rule, which snapped and went in her right eye, causing her to loose most
of her eye sight. Teresa sued the school for negligence, as well as Heidy. However, it was decided by
the court that Heidy was expected, as standard, to act like a 15 years old student, and not like a
reasonable adult. Concluding with the judges deciding that Heidy was not in breach of duty, as she had
met the standards of a 15 years old ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This causation is identified with the but for test, in other words, but for the defendant s breach of duty
would the damage or injury have occurred? the main case would be Barnett v Chelsea and Kensington
Hospital Management Committee, 1968, where the husband of the claimant went to the hospital due to
strong stomach pain and vomiting. He was sent home after the Accident and Emergency department
refused to examine him. After five hours, he died due to arsenic poisoning. The hospital owed the man
duty of care and were also in breach after refusing to examine him. However, they were not liable as
even if they had conducted the examinations the man would have died prior the results and treatment.
Meaning that he would have died if the breach was or was not present, as their breach did not cause
him to die.
Remoteness of damage consists in establishing whether the offender is liable for only the damages, if
the consequences were foreseeable from the breach of duty. In other words, the judges have to be able
to establish where and when do the consequence act start and finish, as some may be too remote to be
included as they may happen years after if not earlier, depending on the circumstances. For example,
in The Wagon Mound case, a test of reasonable foreseeability was established. This case consisted in
the offender accidently spilling oil in the claimant s wharf, while he was fueling another ship. At the
time, there were welding

Queer Anthropology
The American Anthropological Association decided in 2010 to remove the word science from the
statement of the long range plan. This decision caused a long standing debate in the anthropological
community to reawaken with a forceful start. Different anthropologists claim how removing science
allowed more sub divisions of anthropology to be included under the statement umbrella. Others claim
how it diminished the name of what anthropology was as a science. This argument questions how
anthropology will thrive or unravel if it moves away from the sciences and into other areas of interest.
First, the debate of what the nature of anthropology could be said to begin in the era of Franz Boas.
Franz Boas stated how he expected anthropologists ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The purpose of anthropology has not shifted, but queer anthropologists can argue how the shift further
highlights the intersectionality of the different divisions of anthropology. It includes new possibilities
of researching different communities or even areas of interest and how they play a part in one another.
Creating a more inclusive discipline of anthropology helps create a more inclusive community of
various identities and interests within

Taking a Look at Flu H5N1 ################################################# Part 2 ################################### There are multiple different sources for epidemiological measures used for tracking and reporting the number of cases. There are websites where you can go to post confirmed cases in areas, where that information is then taken and calculated. There are also places that provide charts for the amount of confirmed outbreaks and then separates them from human cases and avian cases. But the best types of reports available are the map tracking ones. Where they give distinction marks for avian and human cases and all over the different areas of the world. This is very handy for seeing how bad and large an outbreak is and what species is affected, whether it is humans or birds. The incidence rate is a measure of morbidity and number of infected worldwide, looking over the past 10 years. Over the past ten years there have 650 infected.(Yu Chan, 2014). This is not a large number because of the fact it is not spread through human to human contact but through already infected poultry. The prevalence rate is the number of current/existing cases worldwide. The United States has yet to have a confirmed outbreak because we set such high regulations on the meat we sell in our markets, thus preventing a large outbreak from hitting our country. The mortality rate is the number of deaths caused by the H5N1 virus worldwide. For ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Callicles Vs Socrates In Gorgias, Plato presents a series of conversations Socrates has with Gorgias and Callicles that explore oratory and the rules of law and nature. Socrates criticism of oratory and espousement of the rule of law imply a dislike for democracy, but for different reasons than Callicles dislike. Through these conversations, Plato suggests that democracy is actually a rule of nature with orators as the superiors. Socrates and Callicles converse about the rule of law and the rule of nature because Callicles wants Socrates to talk only about one, especially the rule of nature. As stated before, Callicles believes the people who institute ... laws are the weak and many and that it s a just thing for the better man and the more capable man to have a greater share than the worse man and the less capable man (483b, 483d). He wishes for a society where the better deserve to have more and do get more than what the lesser get. Thus, he hates democracy. He believes democracy would take away from those who deserve more and would give the lesser more power than needed. Socrates, on the other hand, fears the power of orators over uneducated masses. Socrates makes clear from Gorgias that oratory doesn t need to have any knowledge of the state of their subject matters and that it only needs to have discovered a persuasion device to make itself appear to those who don t have any knowledge that it knows more than those who actually do have it (459c). Socrates is concerned that the public can be convinced by orators to do things that orators have no knowledge of. Socrates wants people s soul to stay pure and avoid corruption. However, if people listen to an orator in a democracy and do something unjust, they would have no punishment because they would be the ones who agreed upon the action. Thus, Socrates favors when the masses listen to someone who knows what is just. For Socrates, democracy can be arbitrary based on the whims of orators and what they see fit ending up in ... Corruption is a major problem in developing countries. Millions of loans in financial assistance would be rendered ineffective if such countries were run by corrupted governance. Many World Bank s projects have failed due to the corrupted government in these developing nations (Behar, 2012). • 12. Toad Revisited Larkin This poem is Larkin s monologue about work. Larking walks through a park and even though he finds it an appealing and pleasurable sight, he would rather like to keep himself busy with work. He does not want to be lazy like the people at the park but would rather like to perform his duties meticulously so that when he dies he can have the satisfaction of having worked so hard. Toad Revisited is Larkin s mental debate in which he weighs the advantages and disadvantages of work and of leisure; and comes to the definite conclusion that work is preferable to sloth or to leisure unlike the people around him. Toad work refers to the easy work that people do that does not need much intelligence or skills. Their jobs are easy which therefore, in Larkin s view, makes them lazy. He has accepted the fact that working for him is preferable to not working, and he actually asks the toad (work) to help him through the rest of his life as he walks down Cemetery road, which is a place of death. Larkin means he is going to work at his current job that he might not necessarily like until he dies, which gives us a sense that he is at ease with doing so he sees that the alternative is far worse (the alternative being the people at the park). Hume s Wide Construal of the Virtues Essay Hume s Wide Construal of the Virtues ABSTRACT: The term virtue has traditionally been used to designate morally good character traits such as benevolence, charity, honesty, wisdom, and honor. Although ethicists do not commonly offer a definitive list of virtues, the number of virtues discussed is often short and their moral significance is clear. Hume s analysis of the virtues departs from this tradition both in terms of the quantity of virtues discussed and their obvious moral significance. A conservative estimate of the various virtues Hume refers to in his moral writings would put the number at around seventy, with the more untraditional ones including wit, good manners, and dialog. Not surprisingly, Hume s critics, past and present, have attacked him for making nonsense of the concept of virtue by construing it so widely. For example, Philippa Foot argues that, ... one does not find in Hume an account of the difference between skills or talents and virtues and he even says that there is no reason to consider virtue as something distinct. I suppose it is partly due to Hume s influence that this important topic, which was splendidly treated by Aristotle and Aquinas, is hardly discussed by modern moral philosophers. (1) Hume was aware that his broad understanding of virtue was controversial and he offered several defenses for his position. After presenting the neglected attacks of his contemporaries, and Hume s response, I will argue that a problem remains: by failing to distinguish between degrees of virtue, Hume also fails to distinguish between degrees of vice. But, some vices such as malevolence clearly deserve punishment whereas other alleged vices such as uncleanliness clearly do not. Thus, for adequate retribution, a distinction is needed between important and less ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Now that I am educated on the matter and can form my own opinion, I was curious about what the people I surround myself with think about climate change. I asked many different people about their thoughts and opinions on climate change. I questioned my tutors, stem major friends, my parents, and siblings. The Apology Of Socrates In Book I Of The Republic The Apology shows how other people perceive Socrates actions and how Socrates himself perceives his actions; these different views are then evident in Book I of the Republic. The Greek word apologia means defense. In The Apology of Socrates, Socrates is defending himself and his actions because of the accusations against him corrupting the youth, atheism, and making the weaker argument the stronger. As a philosopher, Socrates is dangerous to the city because of the relationship between reason and revelation. Reason seeks to find why things are done in a certain way, and if they are found to be done in an inadequate way, this inquisition calls into question the authority who are over the city. However, Socrates asks if it is good to give back a madman a weapon he had loaned, because while that fits Cephalus definition of justice, it is clear that no one could benefit from it. It is because of Socrates innocently challenging important well respected men that was accused and put on trial. Polemarchus takes on a similar definition of justice: justice is going good to friends and harm to enemies (I, 332d). As a refutation to this, Socrates brings up the point that not every friend is actually a good person and not every enemy is bad, which would be doing injustice to that person. Disproving Polemarchus could be thought of as an example where Socrates is corrupting the youth which leads to his being on trial. Thrasymachus argues that justice is the interest of the stronger. When Thrasymachus makes this case, Socrates does not inquire but cross examines him, which gives the impression that Socrates just wishes to put Thrasymachus out of business and does not care about actually changing his mind. This movement permits the symbolic representation of the original design by evoking less distress. In other words, displacement is when a person represses feelings of affection or fear or impulses that they feel towards another person. They recognize that their feelings are either irrational or socially unacceptable and therefore cannot be publicly demonstrated. Moments later it was discovered that the baby had been kidnapped directly from the second story of the Lindbergh s home and a ransom note for 50,000 dollars left on the windowsill. News Fig. 1 traveled fast and soon Newspapers alike were reporting on the kidnapping on the Lindbergh s infant child(Fig1) where the only evidence left was the ransom note, the ladder, a chisel, and the absence of the child. Minoan Crete Research Paper The first great age of Minoan Crete was the Old Palace period(2000 1700B.C),during which huge labyrinthine palaces were built at Knossos, Phaistos, Malia and Zakros. In these palaces the power and wealth of the island were concentrated, and around them the political, social, economic and religious life of the island revolved. The manner in which these buildings and their various servicing systems were constructed is quite remarkable. In 1700 B.C. a great earthquake shook the island and the palaces were laid in ruins. In a very short time, however, new palaces were built on the ruins of the old in an architectural style expressive of the Minoan love of nature and desire to live in a world of light and charm. The Mycenaean civilization flourished during the period roughly between 1600 BC, when Heliadic culture in mainland Greece was transformed under influences from Minoan Crete, and 1100 BC, when it perished with the collapse of Bronze Age civilization in the eastern Mediterranean. Aside from the game of Monopoly, few people have had any real desire to control a market or hold a majority of the shares in a particular sector; these following companies have a monopoly on their respective markets and it is typically taken for grated by the general population. Some of the cons of monopolies include price fixing that is associated with a monopoly being able to set whichever price they choose for a product or service simply because the law allows them to do so and there is no viable substitute that can compete with the monopoly company s product. As has been stated multiple times, monopolies control the market and are able to provide inferior goods if they so choose at the standard rate. Monopolies are able to reduce operating costs while keeping prices fixed or elevated. Competition typically breeds innovation. Companies are searching for the newest and greatest product that will continue to keep them on top of the market. When a monopoly has a grip on a market, the need to be innovative and appealing to their customers can quite often disappear. Valuation is at the heart of any investment decision, whether that decision is buy, sell or hold. Every assets have to be valued in order to take an investment decision, and their sources have to been understood as well. Various methods of valuation can be used, and a certain degree of uncertainty exists.A valuation is uncertain. A good valuation does not provide a precise estimate of value.Nevertheless, a valuation enables to get a large overview in order to take an investment decision. For that reason valuation is a strategic aspect in many areas of finance. In corporate finance, the firm s value aims to be as high as possible and will have an effect on corporate decisions, including projects to develop and where to find funds, and on the dividend policy. In such a way to study the topic, we will discuss first the Net Asset Value and its advantages and disadvantages, then the Discounted cash flow method and to finish the dividend discount model. The net asset value (NAV) method measures the value of a fund s assets. It enables investors to analyse a fund s performance market and industry standards such as Moody s. The NAV is the book value of equity, in other words the total value of a company s assets less its liabilities total value. The Cold War was the most subtle war in history, but the world came very close to a nuclear war that had the potential to inevitably wipe out mankind. The two main opponents in this war were the Soviet Union and the United States. With Canada being the United States neighbour to the north and close to The Soviet Union geographically, Canada allied itself with the United States. • 25. Racial Discrimination During The 20th Century Starting in 1501, white Portuguese men enslaved over five million Africans and brought them back to Brazil to work on sugar plantations, creating a power dynamic that has lasted for centuries. After nearly four hundred years of slavery, freed black men and women were left with no education, place to live, or family, placing them at an economic disadvantage from the beginning. In the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, following emancipation, white men began to procreate with indigenous and African women, creating a mixed or mulatto race, which led to the false identification of Brazil as a country with a racial democracy. However, darker skinned individuals still remained at the bottom of the racial hierarchy, facing systems of social, economic, and educational discrimination. The racial inequalities, products of historical legacy, have resulted in a society that has severe racial stratifications and continues to subject Afro Brazilians to prejudice, poverty, and police brutality. Although racial discrimination in contemporary Brazilian society is pervasive, particularly noticeable in the lack of economic and social mobility, discrimination is not a new phenomenon in Brazil, but rather the culmination of 500 years of historical inequities rooted in slavery, eugenics, immigration policy, the process of miscegenation, and the myth of racial democracy . In this case, the argument at hand would be that along with the legalization of gay marriage comes the allowing of bestial marriage, polygamy, and many other wrongs (Bidstrup). • 31. Collection And Monitoring Of Particulate Matter Collection and monitoring of Particulate Matter: The aerodynamic properties of particles determine how they are transported in air and how they can be removed from it. These properties also govern how far they get into the air passages of the respiratory system. Additionally, they provide information on the chemical composition and the sources of particles. Particles have irregular shapes and their aerodynamic behaviour is expressed in terms of the diameter of an idealised sphere. The sampling and description of particles is based on this aerodynamic diameter, which is usually simply referred to as particle size . Particles having the same aerodynamic diameter may have different dimensions and shapes. Some airborne particles are over 10,000 times bigger than others in terms of aerodynamic diameter. Based on size, particulate matter is often divided into two main groups: o The coarse fraction contains the larger particles with a size ranging from 2.5 to 10 µm (PM10 PM2.5). o The fine fraction contains the smaller ones with a size up to 2.5 µm (PM2.5). The particles in the fine fraction which are smaller than 0.1 µm are called ultrafine particles. Most of the total mass of airborne particulate matter is usually made up of fine particles ranging from 0.1 to 2.5 µm. Consciousness is our basic tool for successful modification to reality. The more conscious we are in any situation, the more possibilities we tend to notice, the more options we have, the more powerful we are, even the longer we will live. Branden s technique of sentence completion, familiar from his previous works, is also explained here. Chapters one and two are the basis for Branden s theory by exploring the nature of human consciousness and its suitable association to reality. Chapters three and four describe in detail the meaning of full consciousness and its connection to happiness. Chapter three takes up the need to consider the consequences inferred in one s actions, the need to consider the knowledge required for success, and the need to cope feelings that pull one away from focus. Chapter four first deals with areas that one must bring consciousness, including romantic, familial, and professional relations, and then with the need for a consciousness of one s context and ideas. Scott Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby fails to fully depict its own characters as being careless rather, the movie version, directed by Baz Luhrmann, is able to use its medium with more success to achieve it properly. Through analyzing the affair and poor choices of an infidelious husband and the false obliviousness and thoughtless decisions of a young woman, the true variances between the mediums can and will be found. In regards to Tom Buchanan s status as a careless person , the film certainly has a more accurate portrayal than the novel. Tom s affair with Myrtle plays a pivotal role in this, as the way he goes about going to his New York apartment with her has significant differences between both formats of the narrative. In the book, Tom makes it a point to sit in a separate car from Myrtle on the train into New York to avoid suspicion from any East Eggers, who may be riding on it as well; In the movie, however, it simply cuts away from the front of George Wilson s garage to inside the apartment, with no reference to careful organizing on Tom s part, nor any effort at all to keep themselves secret. To me this shows a lot about a piece of art, for there to be all these art pieces and out of all of them I chose this specific piece. I chose this piece because I find it to be very relatable. Every kid becomes super excited when they are finally given the opportunity to watch a little sibling, or given some type of responsibility. Roger Rabbit has this super excited and silly expression on his face as he is told the news. I believe the artist sums up this expression well. Roger Rabbit appears to be full of life and potentially counting how many hours he will be watching baby Herman. This painting is very simple, which allows the viewer to interpret what is actually occurring in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. The Impact Of Freedom And The American Dream Freedom and the American Dream are both something that Americans stand and strive for in the United States. For many it is a major part of our lives, for some more than others. When the American Dream is asked to be explained or defined a common response is that it is an accomplishment of wealth and prosperity through hard work and success, especially those living in the United States. When searched, the American Dream is described as the ideals of freedom, equality, and opportunity traditionally held to be available to every American (American Dream, Dictionary.com). This description plays a major role as these are the goals that were set to come from the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Many fought for the right to be free especially when it came to racial inequality in our country but many did not receive these benefits or opportunities of equality as there were negative and positive effects that came directly from the Civil Rights Movement. The first American slaves were brought to the North American colony of Jamestown, Virginia in 1619. Their job was to aid in the production of crops such as tobacco as the Virginians were desperate for labor, to grow enough to stay alive... needed labor, to grow corn for subsistence, to grow tobacco for export (Zinn 24,25). The slaves that were being brought to the Americas were seen as builders of the economic foundations of the new nation and as time passed the ownership of slaves dwindled but inequality and segregation grew to be more prevalent in the U.S ( Slavery in America ). On January 1st, 1863 President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation, an executive order which freed slaves in the United States not within the Confederacy, under Union Control. Two years later the 13th Amendment to the United States Constitution which abolished slavery but many Southern States managed to create unattainable prerequisites for blacks to live, work or participate in society. With nearly one hundred years after the Emancipation Proclamation, African Americans were still treated just as unequally. Oppression, race inspired violence, segregation and an unequal world of disenfranchisement lingered across Southern States for African Americans. The Jim Crow Laws ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There Are No Good Reasons To Legalize Marijuana Classical Argument Marijuana, weed, bud, tree, grass, reefer, chronic, cannabis these are all names given to the drug that is one of the most debated topics in the United states. Some think Cannabis should be used for medicinal use only and, some think it should be treated like alcohol and tobacco and some think marijuana should be outright illegal. I have a family member who has fibromyalgia, heart problems, and Lupus. She has been prescribed pills and other treatments to help her. Not only does she take pills, but also she is an alcoholic. She has become addicted to taking pills and drinking causing serious damage to her body and mind. She can t control herself because of the heavy doses of pills she is prescribed. There are times when she ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After reading articles I have come to the conclusion that yes recreational marijuana should be legal. Reading these articles only strengthened my opinion. In the article, Marijuana should be legalized , by Adam Ford I learned that the only ones really benefiting from pot being illegal are the illegal drug dealers and the alcohol and tobacco industries. In the article , There Are No Good Reasons to Legalize Marijuana. by George Wright, I learned that medicinal marijuana is used to help with nausea against things like chemo and weed also helps with sleeping, pain relief, and stress relief. In the article This Is Why Marijuana Should Be Legal Everywhere ,by Renee Jacques, I learned that marijuana really isn t that dangerous compared to other drugs. Alcohol, tobacco, and pills have all caused thousands of deaths because of overdose while marijuana has never caused a death due to overdose. Prescription pills are legal, yet in 2010, 60% of overdoses were because of pills. After reading these articles, I realized that marijuana really isn t that bad and could be beneficial for those who are sick and for America in general. The legalization of marijuana would make America millions of dollars from tax revenue and create new jobs which we are in dire need of. Cannabis also helps those who are hurting from severe illnesses and who are in pain. Before reading these articles I was unsure of whether Marijuana should be legal or not but, after ... • 43. Worldview Is What You Think About The World What is Worldview? Worldview is what you see and think about the world. So it would depend on the person on what they think about the world since everyone is different. It is what you believe of what you have heard and would take it to heart of what you believe. For example in the book called Finding Your Worldview: Thinking Christianly about the World, it gives an example of different color lens. When you give others a different color lens each of them is going to be seeing it differently and that is how Worldview works and it would impact your life when you would respond to issues in the world. A worldview would feed off a person that would base every action, opinion and a response that they would see in the world. So since the world is built around their life, they would share what they have seen and experienced. People always wonder how life began or mankind comes into existence and it is hard for someone to explain what you believe by just saying what you think is right. It tells and shows God creating the heavens and the earth in the beginning. (Genesis 1:1). In the bible, God created the world in six days and rested on the seventh day. (Genesis 2:1 3) Christians believe that God created us in His own image. (Genesis 1:27) God made us to be like Him; of course we are not nearly perfect as God. But we would have the ability to understand and learn and to obey what God has sent us down here for. So it is believed in Christian worldview of how life began, that God ... • 44. Horse Descriptive Writing I stood in the car park of the livery yard anxiously waiting, with a new lead rope in my hands, for him to arrive. I had checked the time on my phone about a hundred times. They were due any minute now and I could hardly contain my excitement. To waste a little time, I ran back to the stable to check it was ready for him, although of course I knew it was. The earthy smell of freshly laid wood chips filled my nostrils. My mother shouted, They are here and I turned to watch a horse box trundle into the yard. This was actually happening. Every young girl has their fantasies; from becoming a pop star to flying around outer space. Well, mine was to have my own horse. For as long as I can remember I have been obsessed with horses, ponies, donkeys, basically everything and anything related to these fabulous, four legged, beautiful beasts. I can still picture the horror on my mother s face as I thundered past her in the stubble fields, Arron at full gallop and mystified, she often asks, How did I end up with such a horsey daughter? In contrast, the smile on my face reached from ear to ear and I m sure Arron was smiling too, an enormous, toothy, grin. Horses love speed as much their riders. By the time I was riding Arron, almost eight years had passed since that first lesson. That childhood obsession with horses had not gone away, if anything, it had intensified and at weekends I virtually lived at the stables. A friend owned Arron and even though I rode her regularly, fed, watered and mucked out her stable every day, essentially catered for all her needs, she wasn t mine. Furthermore, I knew that one day we would go our separate ways so I always held back a little, never letting myself get too attached to her, in anticipation of the day we would say goodbye to each other. She was the last horse I rode before ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Bruce Bueno De Mesquita Expected Utility Model In A Decision Making Model: Its Structure and Form, Bruce Bueno de Mesquita discusses the expected utility model, which is designed to demonstrate how policy positions are affected by competition among actors over their respected interests (Bueno de Mesquita, 1997, p. 235). With the basis of the medium voter and monotonicity theorem, the model is portrayed as a game in which actors first pitch their respected preferences to other participants, attempting to influence them, and then form coalitions and adjust their own positions on the issue according to the response they receive from other actors, repeating these steps in order as needed (Bueno de Mesquita, 1997, p. 238). Each player in this game is aware of the potential power and stance of other actors on the policies in question, as well as the salience those actors associate with the issues explored (Bueno de Mesquita, 1997, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The author establishes that the objective of the models is to predict the process and outcome leading to the resolution of complex negotiations and to ascertain the possible way negotiations may end (Bueno de Mesquita, 2011, p. 66). Before focusing on the model itself however, the article outlines changes the new model incorporates, including heuristic rules, which are designed to govern some key computational choices in order to ensure that the model can provide guidance as to when the game is predicted to end . . . [and] how it is predicted to end (Bueno de Mesquita, 2011, p. 67). While such changes to the model are necessary concessions, they should still be reevaluated in order to clarify how they may be improved and modified over time in order to ensure that such rules do not cause variance and affect model ... • 46. If Offenders, Young People Are Expected Act Like A... If offenders, young people are expected to act like a standard person of their age. In Mullin v Richards, 1998, Teresa Mullin and Heidi Richards, who were friends, were sitting next to each other at a desk in school. While playing fighting with plastic rules, using them as swards, Teresa Mullin was injured by a fragment of the rule, which snapped and went in her right eye, causing her to loose most of her eye sight. Teresa sued the school for negligence, as well as Heidy. However, it was decided by the court that Heidy was expected, as standard, to act like a 15 years old student, and not like a reasonable adult. Concluding with the judges deciding that Heidy was not in breach of duty, as she had met the standards of a 15 years old ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This causation is identified with the but for test, in other words, but for the defendant s breach of duty would the damage or injury have occurred? the main case would be Barnett v Chelsea and Kensington Hospital Management Committee, 1968, where the husband of the claimant went to the hospital due to strong stomach pain and vomiting. He was sent home after the Accident and Emergency department refused to examine him. After five hours, he died due to arsenic poisoning. The hospital owed the man duty of care and were also in breach after refusing to examine him. However, they were not liable as even if they had conducted the examinations the man would have died prior the results and treatment. Meaning that he would have died if the breach was or was not present, as their breach did not cause him to die. Remoteness of damage consists in establishing whether the offender is liable for only the damages, if the consequences were foreseeable from the breach of duty. In other words, the judges have to be able to establish where and when do the consequence act start and finish, as some may be too remote to be included as they may happen years after if not earlier, depending on the circumstances. For example, in The Wagon Mound case, a test of reasonable foreseeability was established. This case consisted in the offender accidently spilling oil in the claimant s wharf, while he was fueling another ship. At the time, there were welding ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Queer Anthropology The American Anthropological Association decided in 2010 to remove the word science from the statement of the long range plan. This decision caused a long standing debate in the anthropological community to reawaken with a forceful start. Different anthropologists claim how removing science allowed more sub divisions of anthropology to be included under the statement umbrella. Others claim how it diminished the name of what anthropology was as a science. This argument questions how anthropology will thrive or unravel if it moves away from the sciences and into other areas of interest. First, the debate of what the nature of anthropology could be said to begin in the era of Franz Boas. Franz Boas stated how he expected anthropologists ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
