Learning Receptive Language Skills By Using An Authentic Text
Reading is a complex cognitive process of decoding symbols in order to construct or derive meaning
(reading comprehension). www.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reading The aim of the assignment is to practice
receptive language skills by using an authentic text. I have choose an advert to discuss the importance
of donation to schools for breakfast for young students. I obtained it from www.magicbreakfast.com
website. I am confident about the text that it would be ideal for visual learners as it comprises with an
image . I m teaching Entry 1 , and is a well blend of diversity. Learners are from Bangladesh, Italy,
Romania and Sudan. Learners have good receptive skills and always welcome new ideas toward their
learning. Their positive approach is an asset towards my teaching, and I felt the advert would be
appropriate. The advert gives the message to donate for the good cause and is not culturally biased.
The element of personalisation from learners aspect would help them to engage in the reading
effectively, hence allowing a productive session to occur.
The text is formal and has good vocabulary aspect. It would create a good discussion. I feel the theme
of the text would make it a good discussion for the productive activity.
At the same time I would assure learners will enjoy reading and would not be bored because my main
focus would be on the weaker ones, they should get the opportunity to read and give their opinions.
I would preteach vocabulary to simplify the understanding.

From 1975 To 1979 Pol Pot Was The Leader Of The Khmer Rouge
From 1975 to 1979 Pol Pot, the leader of the Khmer Rouge regime, had a goal to create a society that
was completely self sufficient. In four years the Khmer Rouge killed, tortured and starved to death
somewhere between 1.7 and 2 million innocent Cambodian civilians, ultimately destroying any trace
of humanity within Cambodia. Forty years later the people of Cambodia are still suffering and the
country is still trying to put the pieces back together, both physically and emotionally.
When visiting the killing fields, where approximately 1.4 million people were taken to be executed, I
was listening to a tape recording and in it, one of the speakers said During the Khmer Rouge, life had
no meaning. I see myself as a broken glass and only I can

Lbw Case Studies
Overall, of 103830 records 82534 mothers data were analyzed that were obtained from the
Commonwealth of Virginia s Certificate of Live Birth. Descriptive results of maternal and birth
characteristics are shown in Table 1. Approximately, 57% of the mothers were white, 33% black, 7%
Asian, and 3.6% other ethnicities, respectively. 29% of the maternal age at delivery was between 20
24 years old, 22% was between 25 29 years old, 19% was between 30 34 years old, 14% was between
19 years and younger, 11% was between 35 39 years old, and 4% was between 40 years and older,
respectively. The number of LBW babies ( 2500 g) among mothers who smoked and non smoked
were 1359 (1.6%) and 81144 (98.3%), respectively. 16 % of mothers who smoked (n=5544) gave low
birth weight babies. 5.4% of low birth weight babies had mothers smoked between 10 14 cigarettes
per day.
The prevalence of low birth weight by different characteristics of mothers and births is shown in Table
2. The higher prevalence of low birth weight was among black women, which was (OR= 2.70%, 95%
CI [2.45 2.95]) and lowest prevalence of low birth weight babies were among white women, which
were (OR=1.30%, 95% CI [1.21 1.39]). The youngest age group (19 ... Show more content on

that affect an association between LBW and mothers who smoked during pregnancy. The crude OR of
mothers who smoked and non smoked was (OR= 2.80, 95% CI [2.41, 3.23]). For controlling the
maternal age confounder we calculated the Mantel Haenszel (OR=2.50, 95% [2.15, 2.90]). Thus, the

Economics and Zara
Case Analysis of ZARA: Fast Fashion
Challenges
a. Limitations of Vertical Integration
Vertical integration, a distinctive feature of Zara s business model, has allowed the company to
successfully develop a strong merchandising strategy. This strategy has led Zara to create a climate of
scarcity and opportunity as well as a fast fashion system. However, Zara s strategy creates some
weaknesses. Their vertical integration has more advantages than drawbacks but it is important to
recognize its limitations. Vertical integration often leads to the inability to acquire economies of scale,
which means Zara cannot gain the advantages of producing large quantities of goods for a discounted
rate. Higher costs are then incurred for the Inditex ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The close proximity of the distribution center to the American market will allow Zara to effectively
interpret the particular American fashion.
The increased cost of product variety will increase cost due to possible changeover of production
techniques to create different apparel lines but this cost is warranted since the monetary gain is much
greater than the cost. Central distribution centers, however, will help cut some the cost of quick, high
fashion since it can help streamline some of the processes and techniques used to create different
apparel as they vary from country to country.
Implementations
To expand globally, Zara should focus on one country at a time. Our team concludes that United States
should be Zara s current focus on international expansion. United States is an open trade market with
well formed trade regulations. This provides a safer business environment as compared to Asia
countries. During the globalization process, Zara should maintain short lead time, quick inventory
turnover, leading fashion brand and low advertising cost as its competitive advantage. Regional
distribution center, vertical integration, outsourcing, eye catching window displays are the key
elements for Zara to continue to re invent and innovate themselves to stay fresh in the apparel
industry. Below you may find the implementation details for United States region:

Analysis Of The Poem David Sedaris
David Sedaris is an author, humorist, and comedian. He has published many books that contain his
short stories and essays. He was named Humorist of the Year by Time magazine, and he also received
the Thurber Prize for American Humor (David Sedaris, Radio Contributor, to Appear at Durham).
Three of his works are A Plague of Tics , Now We Are Five , and Our Perfect Summer. Sedaris has a
very particular writing style. His essays are generally about something he is close to, for example, his
family. Growing up with two parents and five other siblings, Sedaris often makes his family or
childhood the subject of his writing. Characters that are able to encompass a complete spectrum of
emotions and maintain a sense of humor tend to make a connection with the reader. These characters
are more realistic than a character that expresses a single emotion at a time and has a set of personality
traits to stick to. He writes about his family and friends in a realistic tone. Sedaris also manages to
portray them in an unbiased way. Sedaris gets his message across in a light and conversational tone.
Even personal or heavy topics are dealt with casual language. He makes his writing funny; it is often
packed with sarcastic humor.
A Plague of Tics is about Sedaris s relationship with his compulsive tendencies while growing up.
Young Sedaris s average day consists of a constant need of licking of light switches, tapping shoes on
his head, kissing newspapers, and more. Each of these acts

Analysis Of The Green Mile
Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen of the Literary and Media Arts Festival. In today s session,
Novel to Film Adaptations Empowering the Marginalised Perspective, Frank Darabont s corrupt film
adaptation of, The Green Mile, will be exposed as a blatant juxtaposition of Paul Edgecombe s journal
on which it is based. Audiences are invited to follow the disturbing experiences and happenings upon
the green mile in 1932 at the Cold Mountain Penitentiary death row. The film constructs Percy
Wetmore as cruel, malevolent and aggressive, however, this is contrasted by the reality presented in
the journal, through which he portrays characteristics of dedication, determination and intuition. Three
scenes evident within both written evidence and film will be pinpointed in today s presentation
explaining why my client, Percy Wetmore has been unjustly represented. Firstly, the Squashing of Mr.
Jingles, secondly Delacroix s Execution, and thirdly, John Coffey s Arrival. It is apparent through the
examination of the character construction of Percy Wetmore within the film, that the representation
dehumanizes, exploits and manipulates the actions and intentions of Percy in a manner that is
discriminatory. The Squashing of Mr Jingles is a scene in the film which cleverly appeals to the
emotions of audiences, and is particularly significant as it further establishes the demonization of
Percy. In this particular scene a low camera angle, confronting sound effects and elusive dialogue are

Reflective Essay About Self Respect
In life, people are free to do what they desire. We have the ability to choose our own path; a path that
teaches us not only lessons that lead us to social/academic achievement, but a lesson about morality,
self respect, and integrity. It s importance are the key components that inspire us to strive and want to
succeed. The path that each of us chooses to take surrounds us with problems and obstacles that
derogate the self confidence that we have in ourselves away and leading us to distress. However, these
problems that torment our mind are the reasons we learn the morality of self respect. It s not about
how great you can succeed without fault, it s about how critical you can fail and still maintain the
determination to move forward in order to mature to this mindset of self respect and integrity, which

diagnosed with autism to becoming an inspirational achiever was also a result of my self confidence.
Most importantly, going through a depression and executing a solution showed me how to think much
more creatively and uniquely, both critically and ethically. Enlightening my mind from the worst of
my depression helped me help others who are also depressed, transforming their confidence into
determination and perseverance. All these benefits evolved me into becoming much more mature and

Confessions Of A Mormon Essay
Confessions of a Mormon Girl Turned Dominatrix... Snow Mercy Interview by Corpsy G C: How
long were you a Mormon? SM: My family is Mormon, so I was born into the faith. I moved away
from the Church as a teenager and haven t been back since. G C: What are the best and worst parts of
being a Mormon? SM: Mormons are very community based and help out their own kind. If you are
down on your luck, the community will help you out with food, clothes, and emotional support. They
have a strong work ethic and urge everyone, even kids, to do volunteer work. In addition, they foster
leadership skills starting with young kids. As a teenager, I was president of my youth group, for
example, and all of us were expected to pitch in with Sunday school presentations starting at the age
of 5 years old. Mormons have activities all week long like sports, family home meetings, scripture
studies, and home visits that keep you very busy. I owe a lot of my leadership and organizational skills
to the Mormon Church. The worst parts of being Mormon, in my opinion, are personal, and vary.
Many complain about the no caffeine rule, the no sex outside marriage rule, and the 10% tithing rule.

Meghan Daum s Childhood Memories
A writer s effectiveness rely on how he or she can connect with the readers. In Childhood, Alice
Walker shows how the use diction, effectively, can depict memories give the viewer s insight into one

of childhood memories .When Walkers daughter is enchanted (224) by the process comparing it to
finding gold (224), she reminds us of our amazement as children reminding the viewers of childhood
memories. In similar fashion, in Meghan Daum s My House: Plain and Fantasy Daum use contrasting
tone to show the difference of her fantasy house (234) and her dilapidated Nebraskan bungalow. While
she fantasies of an impeccably furnished plantation style house with a wrap around verandah ...molded

Lord of the Flies Compared to Animal Farm Essay
Dictators often use fear as a control tactic in their countries as they want to make sure they have total
power over their people. Fear is defined as an unpleasant and often strong emotion caused by
anticipation or awareness of danger, often causing a person to act according to what is necessary for
survival. Although fear can be unpleasant, many people like it in different ways; some like the
suspense that scary movies bring, while others like the thrill that is created when cliff jumping. George
Orwell s allegory Animal Farm and William Golding s novel Lord of the Flies, exemplifies societies
who are controlled by authority figures during the war. Jack, a narcissist dictator takes over Ralph s
democratic power over the society and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Napoleon uses that strategy because animals are scared and their ignorance makes them believe that if
they work harder and do what Napoleon says, they will have a better chance of surviving. Jack s tribe
also does everything he says because they are scared to physically get hurt or killed. Therefore both
leaders benefit from this physical fear that both societies experience. Both leaders use supernatural
things and outside influences to establish fear over their society. Jack uses constantly the beast to his
own advantage. He often makes allusion of it to scare his tribe, as it is shown when he says the beast
might try to come in (Golding 177) to his guards. This shows that he is definitely afraid of the beast
even though he tries to reassure his tribe to not be afraid, which perfectly links with his previous
words of this head is for the beast. It s a gift (Golding 151) which clearly proves his fear of the beast,
while at the same time using that as a way to persuade his tribe that they are safe with him as long as
they do what he says. Napoleon uses lies about outside enemies to his own advantage. Napoleon
claims that Snowball is a traitor and was secretly frequenting the farm by night (Orwell 52) causing
panic in the animals. Therefore whenever anything

helped to fine tune the keyboard design are mentioned.
A. How Does It Work
The keyboard works like text entry keyboards, however, instead of inputting letters it inputs blocks.
Each key inputs a block or changes a field. Version 3 in figure 1 shows the current layout of the

Just like many keyboard designs that utilize the letter or word frequencies to layout their keys, we
want to utilize the blocks frequencies. To accomplish this, we looked for Blockly programs sources.
Code Studio, a website offering online courses created by Code.org, is used by millions of students
[14]. It relies heavily on Blockly to teach programming concepts. Therefore, we choose it as a
reference for Blockly programs. We counted the frequency of each block that was asked to be input in
all the offered activities. However, if the activity asks the users to input less than 10 blocks we did not
include that activity in the statistics. We chose not to include such activities because they have few
blocks that do not represent a common block base program. Commonly, an activity with few blocks
just teaches how to input blocks rather than teaching programming concepts or problems solving. This
left us with 47 Blockly programs from courses 2,3, and 4. We found that the average input task
consists of 19 blocks. Table I shows the frequency of block types. The Code Studio activities did not
ask the students to input all the block types in Blockly as can be noticed from the

Fast Food Essay
FAST FOOD
This is a type of a mass produced food that is prepared and served very quickly. The food is less
nutritional compared to other foods and dishes. This refers to food sold in a restaurant or a store with
preheated ingredients and served to the customer in a packaged form for take away.
The history of fast food
The concept of ready cooked food for sale is closely connected with urban development. Homes in
cities always lacked proper food. Additionally, procuring cooking fuel could cost as much as
purchased produce. In Ancient Rome, cities had street stands a large counter with a receptacle in the

The Floppy Drive in a Musical Context Essay
1.1 Mechanism of a musical floppy drive The floppy drive itself is musical in a certain way depending
on what people may perceive as musical such as the sound of friction. In my project, the floppy drive
makes sounds through pitched notes due to friction between the read write head and the diskette. It
produces notes since the diskette has contact friction with read write head, in revolution. Recall that
sine waves can be viewed as the progression of a circle over time, or a revolution. Spinning at higher
speeds increases the pitch and also the frequency. The spindle motor spins the floppy drive at a certain
speed controlled by the microcontroller. Then, read write head will be positioned on the diskette with
a drive motor that will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In resume, we produce sound by using a floppy drive, a computer and a microcontroller. Simply
convert properly and if there is contact between the read write head and the diskette itself, it will
produce an audible pitch. 1.2 The use of floppy drive music in musical context Floppy music is quite
good to listen to in my opinion. However, some might consider it as not musical due its lack of
musical characteristic as the floppy drive was not invented to be a musical instrument but a disk
reader. It also does not make any musical association with most people since floppy drives are
associated with computers and electronics. The contexts where this type of instrument might be
considered musical in my opinion would be the internet, a creative project and certain performances. It
has never been used formally as an instrument, however, due to the tesla coils success in concerts, I
speculate that introducing floppy drive music would be a success since most YouTube videos with a
musical floppy drive have pretty high number of views and critics have been grateful the singing tesla
coils. Musical diskette readers should be possible since there are a few bands that try to implement a
new experience in the audience by using new instruments that are not associated with music like tesla
coils. It turns out to be accepted by a restricted to a limited

How Materialism Affect American Families
Materialism can affect every living person on the planet, but it is more common in rich or well built
up countries or nations it all started in the early 1900 s and started the boom of the industrial age of
materials and technology. And what had get created from the age of materialism is the disease of
Affluenza, which is a mental disorder that can have an effect on every person, no matter the age, race
or creed, it is a disease that should be looked at more carefully, instead of overlooking the problem.

the early turn of the century because of new inventions, and the industrial revolution. So the effects of
materialism goes back many years, so it is a little hard to reverse the effects of materialism. Over

of the world s population, in 1996 we used nearly a third of its resources and produced almost half of

A Research Report On Rural Surveillance
Rural surveillance, although can be done in almost any settings, is usually conducted in rural, farming,
countryside or isolated areas where the use of an observation van is impractical. (Jenkins, 2010,
p.205). The allegations and charges that were cited in both the Ruby Ridge and Waco incidents were
severe enough to warrant such surveillance and information gathering. The allegations and charges in
the case of the Waco siege and stand off include firing of automatic weapons from their compound,
modifying legally purchased guns into illegal weapons, stock piling illegal weapons, child abuse,
advocating polygamy, fathering many children through a harem run by the leader of the group. The

The government also had an informant infiltrate the target but unknown to him, his cover had already
been blown. The target must have fed him with wrong and misleading information as was evidenced
in his reply about what the target group were doing. He replied that they were praying when in
actuality they were arming themselves for the siege from the government.
If the government had taken the time to set up an OP, taking note to use all rural OP precautions, they
would have been able to overtime get in close, set up both surface and sub surface OPs and gather
evidence or information about the illegal weapons production activities, observe automatic gun fire
activities, confirm daily routine of key target group members. The surveillance could have produced
information on child abuse issues as well as polygamous activities. Intelligence from the surveillance
could have been used to better coordinate efforts of all agencies involved with the siege. An even
better alternative would have been to arrest the main target when he was out of his comfort zone as he
often did by mingling with locals during gun shows.
Lack of coordination even among one government agency with some leaning towards aggression
while others opted for negotiations shows the level of unpreparedness to move forward with the
mission. The government knew that they had been compromised but instead of adopting less risky
options, they decided to move in with little or incorrect intelligence about the

Outcasts United By Warren St John Based On The...
Outcasts United Analysis Outcast United is a book by Warren St John based on the incredible tale of a
refugee soccer team and how a small town in America transformed to find unity in diversity. The book
Outcasts United expounds the story of the challenges and triumphs of a group of refugee players, the
strength and determination of an exceptional woman who coaches them, and their neighbourhood.
Clarkston, Georgia was an ordinary town in the south until the government designated it as a refugee
settlement centre in the early 1990s. as a result, the town became the first American neighbourhood
for hundred of refugees fleeing the war torn zones such as Iraq, Sudan, Afghanistan, Liberia, and
others. In the long run, Clarkston was filled with a higher number of different cultural groups,
replacing its previous homogenous community. Unlike in the past, now there were women wearing
hijabs, scents of curry and cumin, and children of different colours playing on any open space in the
town. At that time, Luma Mufleh, an American schooled woman of Jordanian descent also resided in
Clarkston, Georgia. It is Luma Mufleh s right actions that resulted in the foundation of a refugee
soccer team, with the objective of establishing unity among different culture groups, and to keep
children off the streets (Outcasts United, 2009). In the story, so many problems occurred for refugees
in their new community, but my main focus in this essay will be how to use specific tools to reduce

Hunting The Elements Analysis
Over the duration of viewing Hunting the Elements I learned about various scientific topics including,
the elements, what all living things are composed of, CHNOPS, rare earth elements, and even the
origins of elements. The elements were organized by Dimitri Mendeleév. He organized them by
properties (columns), groups (horizontal), and atomic number (the number of protons and electrons).
This became known as the Periodic Table. And currently there are 118 elements. He also found gaps in
which elements that were yet to be discovered were to go, three of these unknown elements were
found and identified in Mendeleév s lifetime. The elements today are used in everything and 75% of

A Strong, Democratic Stand Point, By Bernie Sanders
Through a strong, democratic stand point, Bernie Sanders has one of the strongest resolutions to
immigration. Being in a family of immigrants himself, Sanders understands a lot of viewpoints from
the immigrants. To solve these problems, Bernie has come up with an elaborate, six step plan. This
plan covers making it easier to get a visa, making it easier to bring your family when you immigrate,
and making equal and fair trade rights. This plan will be a major step towards solving the task at hand.
However there are in fact some opposing, credibility issues. Bernie s main goal is to make it easier to
attain visas, and become naturalized. Senator Sanders wants to help the immigrant s complete
citizenship and visas quickly, without giving the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The base of this thriving economy is that we send enormous factories, and farms to other countries.
America takes advantage of the low prices that other countries will work for. America fires their own
strong workers, who want more money, for the cheap labor. In Guatemala, a little over 60% of the
population is living under the poverty line, and the other 40% isn t much over. Poverty is no joke and
a tragic issue that Bernie will fight to develop in not only America, but Mexico, Central America, and
China. In order to accomplish a change, laws need to be put in place that will create more fair trade
policies, and ways to make sure they are absolutely being implemented. The tremendous amount of
immigrants coming to America are coming for two reasons, to escape poverty and escape a low
quality of life. When in their own country, most of the immigrants can t afford food every day, because
of something that America has done to them. This will be a major accomplishment to solve fair trade
issues. An argument that goes along with fair trade issues, is the exploitation of immigrants. When
immigrants come here to get a better life, the American companies that hire them, take advantage.
America pays them less, and treats them unfairly. Creating a reform to keep employers from abusing
their workers will help to continue a healthy flow of immigrants, and healthy working conditions.

Solubility Equilibrium and the Effect of Temperature Essays
Introduction For this experiment, we are going to determine the effect of temperature on solubility, to
be done in a chemical by dissolving a solute in a definite amount of solution which is saturated.
Specifically, the goal of this experiment is to prepare a saturated solution of Na2C2O4 in water at
different temperatures, determine the effect of temperature in solubility, and to apply Le Chatelier s
Principle. We can do all this by simply titrating a certain amount of standard KMnO4, and measuring
how much KMnO4 was needed to help Na2C2O4 reach chemical equilibrium at certain temperatures.
In doing this, we will have fulfilled all the goals of our experiment, as well as being able to determine
the Solubility of Na2C2O3 at both 20 and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

7 Stress Relief Strategies
In her article, 7 Stress Relief Strategies When You re Short On Time , Paula Davis Laack discuss
several stress relief strategies that people can try when they have ten minutes or less at work. Stress
management is also covered in our textbook in chapter 3. Indeed, chapter 3 discuss personal stress
management, and the topic is discussed in details in the section managing stress from page 77 to 79.
However, the article and the textbook s approach to stress management differently.
While the article focuses on stress relief strategies in the work environment, the textbook gives some
useful stress management tips that could particularly help college students. Obviously, college is a
quite stressful experience. College students should then take advantage of this moment to start
learning and practicing the art of stress reduction. The first textbook s suggestion to manage stress is
journaling. Clearly, this is the easiest, simple but effective way to work through stress. Putting our

In fact, the main purpose of relaxation is to calm our bodies and mind. We can choose between several
relaxation techniques which include progressive relaxation, visualization or guided imagery and
biofeedback. Here again, this strategy differs from the ones mentioned in the article. Relaxation
requires a calm environment which is not the case of the work environment. Another strategy is
meditation, which helps a person reach a state of relaxation, but with the goal of achieving inner peace
and harmony. College students may also use this strategy, which is effective to reduce stress. The most
popular exercise practiced to reduce stress is yoga. Yoga is defined as the union of the mind, body and

Symptoms And Symptoms Of Insomnia Essay
As a kid all I would want to do is pull all nighters , now all I want is to actually have one good night s
sleep, or at least half a night s sleep. For those who are completely oblivious to what insomnia is it is
characterized as a persistent lack of sleep, but those who have insomnia know that it is so much more
than just a lack of sleep. For instance, there are actually different types of insomnia that are
categorized by how long you stay awake, if lack of sleep last less than a week then it is considered
Transient Insomnia, if it last one to three weeks its Short Term Insomnia, and if it last longer than
three weeks it s called Chronic Insomnia. I myself suffer from insomnia, and my symptoms would
usually last one to two weeks so I have Short Term Insomnia. Now I didn t know I had any problems
till I was about seven years old, up till then I just thought I was a hyper energetic kid who just wants to
stay up. Before I was diagnosed with insomnia I was a energetic kid who was always enthusiastic
about everything, but as I grew older and school became more demanding I would be tired after
school but I knew there was no way I could go to sleep still and I couldn t understand why.
Sleep is for the weak, at least that s what I would try and tell myself. I wanted to believe that sleep
was not as important as everyone says it is, but that quickly changed when the lack of sleep I was
having was starting to affect my way of daily living. Around the age of eight or nine my

Mount Vesuvius Is A Volcano
Mount Vesuvius is a volcano close to the Bay of Naples in Italy. This volcano is classed as a
stratovolcano, this is because its eruptions usually involve explosive eruptions and pyroclastic flows.
It has erupted more than 50 times. Mount Vesuvius is most famous for its eruption that took place in
the year 79 A.D. This eruption was the destruction of Pompeii and other surrounding cities, like
Herculaneum. This eruption had buried the ancient roman city, known as Pompeii under a blanket of
volcanic ash.
The Ancient City of Pompeii held 20,000 residents, had thriving markets, beautiful homes, indoor
running water, public baths and a beautiful port, which was used for many imports and exports to keep
their economy alive and thriving. The emperor at this time was Emperor Titus. Emperor Titus had
succeeded his father after Emperor Vespasian s death and he was also a member of the Flavian
dynasty.
The 24th of august 79 A.D. was a normal day for the Ancient Romans living in Pompeii, their markets
were thriving and there was not a single worry about the danger of the supposed mountain , the
Ancient Romans believed that Mount Vesuvius was a hill or a mountain, not a volcano at this time.
Around 8AM in the city of Pompeii, small tremors had occurred and smoke from Mount Vesuvius had
appeared into the sky slowly. By 1 PM the smoke from Mount Vesuvius had risen higher into the sky
and had become darker and sootier. The tremors had increased, shaking the city continuously. Around

A Healthy Lifestyle Is Not Going On Diets
Health consists with temperance alone (Alexander Pope). When trying to create a modification in your
health, consistency is needed. To have consistency you need temperance. A healthy lifestyle is not
going on diets. A diet is defined as restricting oneself to a special course of foods in order to lose
weight over a specific amount of time (diet). A problem with diets is the yo yo effect. This is where a
person goes through a cycle of repetitive loss and regaining of body weight (Weight). This is not a
way of achieving a healthy life, but just a way to believe you are. Temperance is the most consistent
virtue needed when trying to achieve a healthy lifestyle. Temperance is abstaining from the desires of
the greatest pleasures. These pleasures can be found in the consumption of food and drinks. They are a
result of mainly the sense of touch. While the rest of the senses follow after. For example, the smell of
food, it is creating power to the pleasurable operation of items that are interrelated to the sense of
touch (McManaman). Temperance, therefore, applies to living a healthy lifestyle. To be healthy you
must abstain from the things that are bad for you and have moderations of what is beneficial. When
you eat more than the stomach can accommodate, it will stretch extraordinarily large. Therefore, the
body s blood supply will divert to the stomach instead of the rest of the body where it is supposed to
be going. The result of this is feeling tired after the large meal

Meno Paradox Essay
Meno s paradox states that is impossible to gain new knowledge using inquiry. In this essay I will
explain Meno s paradox, and then I will analyse the theory of recollection , the solution to it given by
Plato. In Plato s Meno, Socrates and Meno attempt to answer the question, What is virtue? Through
this discussion, Meno is lead to question whether they are even able to arrive at an answer, presenting
us with the paradox of inquiry, And how will you enquire, Socrates, into that which you do not know?
What will you put forth as a subject of enquiry? And if you find what you want, how will you ever
know that this is the thing which you did not know? (Meno 80d). Meno s paradox states that one
cannot gain knowledge through enquiry. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He calls over a slave boy, who has had no education or experience with mathematics, and asks him to
solve a mathematical problem. He draws geometric figures in the ground and asks the slave to work
out how long the sides of a square, of twice the area, would be. Initially, he gets the answer wrong but,
through guidance from Socrates, eventually he reaches the correct answer. Socrates never actually
explains anything to the boy, but instead helps him to think for himself. Socrates argues that, as the
slave reaches this conclusion by himself, he is recollecting knowledge he already possessed. (Meno 84
85). However, Socrates use of the slave boy appears to be a flawed proof of the theory of recollection.
Is it not feasible that the slave just has the innate ability to reason mathematically? We can oppose that
the slave is recalling prior knowledge, and instead accept that he is activating inherent skill. Further,
Socrates guides him to the correct answer through questioning; He claims this simply spurred on his
recollection of a priori knowledge, but arguably this means the boy didn t make this discovery by
himself. It s unlikely that the boy could arrive to this answer without any help at all and appears that
Socrates feeds the boy the answer through a series of carefully constructed questions. In An Essay

Results Of The Current Study
The results of the current study are concluded into 8 tables (tables 2 9) as follows: Table (2)
Represents that the most common number of registers is 3 as found in 15 hypocephali out of 40 with
37.5% as well as 4 registers as found in 13 hypocephali with 32.5%.On the other hand very few
numbers of hypocephali are shown with 1 register with 5% and 2 registers with 15%. Table (3) It is
noticeable that the total number of baboons is varied from 1 to 10.The most common number of
baboons is fluctuated from 4 with 12.5%, 5 and 6 with 15% for each.It is noticed the number 10 and 3
of baboons are represented in one hypocephalus with 2.5% for each that is considered an exceptional
number. The percentage of 7.5% indicates to the hypocephli that include 2 and 7 baboons or without.
Moreover, baboons are represented 9 or 1 in numbers having the percentage of 5%. Table 3 contains 4
hypocephli including 8 baboons with 10%. Finally, despite the significant difference in the number of
baboons, it is noticeable that there is no great difference in the percentage of their presence in the
hypocephli. Table (4) There are 13 hypocephli with 32.5% showing the seated ram headed God
flanking by 2 baboons. The percentage 22.5% refers to the same previous scenes either with 4 or
without baboons. It is noticed that the numbers of baboons around the seated ram headed God are
always even numbers except for only 1 hyocephlus with 1 baboon. Table (5) It is remarkably

A Slave By Solomon Northup Essay
The name of the book that brought several to tears, but gave us all hope was Twelve Years a Slave by
Solomon Northup. This book was written in 1853 and has been republished in several editions. It s
thought of to be a memoir and a slave narrative by Solomon Northup himself. In 1984, PBS created a
movie referred to as, Solomon Northup s Odyssey, that was directed by Gordon Parks and 2013 there
was a movie product of the book that was directed by Steve McQueen. There are several arguments
that are realize throughout this book concerning why Solomon needed to write his book telling his
story. The reason Solomon Northup wrote this book was to bring the treatment of slaves to the
frontline. He wanted to express the reality of slavery and what it was like to be a slave. He strived to
teach people that were blinded from slavery within the North of how slave was in the South. Solomon
decided to give an account of him being a slave and the way African Americans were being treated
within the southern states. Solomon wanted others to see that slaves were people that grew weak and
tired also. By reading this book I saw that this was an experience of a naïve man. This book was in
great detail and was ordered by Solomon North s encounters while being a slave. He was able to think
about all of the points he believe was necessary enough to inform the world. This book is also
inspiring as a result of most slavery books that were written by ghostwriters. Many other slaves couldn

Helen De Hogan Analysis
The Power of Beauty
Helen plays an important role in Greek mythology, history, poetry, and drama. Each writer portrays
Helen in a different way, showing how they each understand a woman s behavior. Helen s beauty tells
the story of the destruction to Troy during the Trojan War. Helen, the queen of Sparta, left her
husband, Menelaus, to be with Paris, a Trojan prince, and caused a thousand ships to be sent after her,
starting a ten year war between the Greeks and the Trojans. Christopher Marlowe and Evelyn De

Changes Within The Nursing Program
Changes in the Nursing Program
Even though Registered Nurses are in high demand, Victor Valley Community College instituted a
multi screening point assignment to really weed out applicants that are qualified for the program.
According to the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN), more than 30,000 qualified
applicants have been turned away from nursing education programs every year since 2002 . VVC
offers an associate program, which would normally be two years long. With numerous test
implemented to make sure the student is able to follow through with the program, qualified
individuals are on the waiting list for years.
In 2007, Assembly Bill 1559 was signed; it required Community Colleges and University to initiate a
merit based system. The purpose of the bill was to train more nurses as the population of nurses is
disappearing by the aging population. In the 1990 s a disagreement aroused over merit based
Associate Degree Nursing programs. The Mexican American Legal Defense and Education fund

Ercikan and Roth establish that selecting an exclusive approach will lead to a partial outcome. Hence,
research placing itself at either extreme cannot be expected to fully answer research questions.
In spite of these similarities, there are some key differences between the authors positions. For
instance, Ercikan and Roth argue that both research activities have more in common than is believed.
They propose that a continuum between qualitative and quantitative characteristics observed in nature
could resonate within social science. A further difference concerns standardisation. Ercikan and Roth
identify that both involve subjective judgments in the construction of data. In quantitative study,
although greater structuring of scoring protocols implies standardising of evaluation and
interpretation, deviations are inevitable. These factors limit the replicability of the interpretation which
reflects what is happening. Inquiries, therefore, are objective as well as subjective, reproducible and

Tablet Server At Any Point Of Time
Tablet Assignment A tablet is assigned to one tablet server at any point of time. The master is
responsible to keep track of the set of live tablet servers, and the current assignment of tablets to tablet

tablet server; the master assigns the tablet by sending a tablet load request to the tablet server. Chubby
keep track of tablet servers. When a tablet server starts, it creates, and acquires an exclusive lock on, a
uniquely named file in a specific Chubby directory. The master monitors this directory (the server s
directory) to discover tablet servers. Whenever a master is started by the Bigtable cluster management
system, it executes the following steps to discover the current tablet assignments (1) The master grabs
a unique master lock in Chubby, which prevents con current master instantiations. (2) The master
scans the server s directory in Chubby to find the live servers. (3) The master communicates with
every live tablet server to discover what tablets are already assigned to each server. (4) The master
scans the METADATA table to learn the set of tablets. (5) Builds a set of unassigned tablet, which are
become eligible for assignment. Tablet splits are treated specially since a tablet server initiates them.
The tablet server commits the split by recording information for the new tablet in the METADATA
table. When the split has committed, it notifies the master.

Oppression signifies an authority over another group, disengaging that particular group from the rest
of society. The term oppression encapsulates the fusion of institutional and systemic discrimination,
personal bias, bigotry, and social prejudice in a complex web of relationships and structures that shade
most aspects of life in our society (Bell, 1997). In one way or another every individual experiences
some form of oppression, whether it be through race, sex, gender, religion, age, wealth and/or sexual

...power is the capacity to terrorize, to use self and strength to inculcate fear, fear in a whole class of

classes, its use is to gain power to which control is given. In the male system, sex is the penis, the
penis is sexual power, its use in fucking is manhood (Dworkin, 1981). The male mind indicates that
without a penis an authority of power is dismissed and overlooked. Unfortunate for society today male

With similar hypothesis it is also observed an increment in the annual income of the IBLI purchaser

forage was expected to negatively affect herd offtake. The data reveals that the average annual
expenditure on livestock probably for veterinary and forage expenses is Birr 701.71. The insured

2.1 Concept of Women Entrepreneur
Women or a group of women who initiate, organize and operates a business enterprise is defined as
Women Entrepreneurs . The Government of India has defined women entrepreneurs as an enterprise
owned and controlled by women having a minimum financial interest of 51 per cent of the capital and
giving at least 51 per cent of the employment generated in the enterprise to women. Women
Entrepreneur is a person who accepts challenging role to meet her personal needs and become
economically independent (Meenu Goyal and Jai Prakash, 2011, pp. [Gibve the page number.]). In
India, these entrepreneurs are part of the larger sustainable development strategy employed by the
policymakers. Evidence shows that Women entrepreneurship has already contributed to the economic
growth across the world and women led enterprises are increasing in every country. These enterprises
also created a large number of job opportunities in their respective economies. Apart from this, these
enterprises also created new business solutions for the pressing social problems.Further in whole
enterprises scenario, number of enterprises owned by women is very less compared to men.

Bel Implex Nigeria Limited Management
PART TWO
2.1 BRIEF OVERVIEW OF BEL IMPLEX NIGERIA LIMITED
Bel Implex Limited, the converting arm of Bel Papyrus Limited, the group s paper mill operation was
incorporated by Group Boulos in 2001. Bel Implex is equipped with the best European converting
machines. However, Bel is currently producing and distributing several lines and sub brands of tissue
paper such as: facial tissue, toilet tissue, baby wipes, table napkins, kitchen towel, handkerchiefs and
diapers.
Due to the quality of its products, Bel has maintained an eminent reputation and its market shares
grew constantly and steadily over the past years through an efficient distribution network s everlasting
commitment to fulfil the customer s needs and meet their every expectation.
Nevertheless, in order for Bel to increase their shareholders worth by creating exchanges that satisfy
the objectives of shareholders, the German market in the EU would be the right market for growth
expansion and would also position the firm to optimise value creation (Hollensen, 2007). However,
the rationale behind this choice of country is due to the fact that customers in Germany are very
careful about hygiene compared to some of the Asian and African countries that have other
alternatives like water (Euromonitor, 2012).It is also assumed that, like the UK, many of the products
in the disposable paper market are considered to be essential by German consumers. Also it assumed
that the Germans consume 13.7kg of tissue per year

Should The Constitution Be Ratified Essay
The United States Constitution overcame the weaknesses of the Articles of Confederation and
provided for the organization of the new government. After the American Revolutionary War in
America, the colonists needed a government so no one could take away their power. The Articles of
Confederation overcame the weaknesses by creating settling in the Western Lands, and the Northwest
Ordinance of 1787. The Constitutional Convention provided for the organization of the new
government by creating The Great Compromise and The Three Fifths Compromise. Every state had to
ratify the constitution, and not every state would agree for the Constitution to be ratified, this provided
for the organization of the new government. The United States Constitution ... Show more content on

The Articles of Confederation had a very limited government to start off with, they created the Land
Ordinance of 1785, and they also created the Northwest Ordinance of 1787. The Constitutional
Convention created the Great Compromise, three fifths compromise, and they created the idea of a
representative government and the Electoral college. The Debate over the Constitution had the
argument whether someone should or should not be allowed to vote. If the Great Compromise never
happened there might not be a decision or a standard on who gets to vote and whose votes count in the

Abel Meeropol s Strange Fruit
Poets make very specific language choices when composing poetry and these are intended to have a
specific effect on the reader and meaning. Creating poetry involves many specific language choices in
order to send a clear message and affect the audience. An example of a thought out text that sends a
clear message is Abel Meeropol s Strange fruit . It was written in the 1930 s in direct relation to the
prejudice and discrimination against African Americans that occurred in the south of America.
Meeropol intentionally provides meaning and atmosphere for the audience by his use of metaphor,
imagery, and descriptive language. Author s thoughtfully use specific metalanguage to affect their
audience. Meeropol does this with the use of metaphors. The main metaphor presented was the title,
strange fruit . When the poem was written in the 1930 s lynching was a legal and common way ...

In fact this language technique is used multiple times throughout the text to serve multiple but a
unified purpose. Pastoral scene of the gallant south , is said with a slight sarcasm to imply that the
south actually isn t so gallant . However, it also describes a place one would take pride in; suggesting
that the south was supposed to be a good place. It contradicts the disturbing and gloomy thigs the
poem describes. An example of this twist is when Meeropol describes the dead bodies as something
for the crows to pluck, the rain to gather, wind to suck. For the sun to rot , a tree to drop. Meeropol
elucidates the decomposition of bodies and reinforces the ambience with dark and sinister feelings,
breaking the illusion of a gallant south . It deeply impacts the reader by describing the aftermath of an
inhumane and discriminatory act that shouldn t happen. With this technique the author allows the
audience to see the cruelty and oppression that African Americans go

In four years the Khmer Rouge killed, tortured and starved to death somewhere between 1.7 and 2 million innocent Cambodian civilians, ultimately destroying any trace of humanity within Cambodia. Forty years later the people of Cambodia are still suffering and the country is still trying to put the pieces back together, both physically and emotionally. Approximately, 57% of the mothers were white, 33% black, 7% Asian, and 3.6% other ethnicities, respectively. 29% of the maternal age at delivery was between 20 24 years old, 22% was between 25 29 years old, 19% was between 30 34 years old, 14% was between 19 years and younger, 11% was between 35 39 years old, and 4% was between 40 years and older, respectively. The number of LBW babies ( 2500 g) among mothers who smoked and non smoked were 1359 (1.6%) and 81144 (98.3%), respectively. 16 % of mothers who smoked (n=5544) gave low birth weight babies. 5.4% of low birth weight babies had mothers smoked between 10 14 cigarettes per day. The prevalence of low birth weight by different characteristics of mothers and births is shown in Table 2. The higher prevalence of low birth weight was among black women, which was (OR= 2.70%, 95% CI [2.45 2.95]) and lowest prevalence of low birth weight babies were among white women, which were (OR=1.30%, 95% CI [1.21 1.39]). Growing up with two parents and five other siblings, Sedaris often makes his family or childhood the subject of his writing. Characters that are able to encompass a complete spectrum of emotions and maintain a sense of humor tend to make a connection with the reader. These characters are more realistic than a character that expresses a single emotion at a time and has a set of personality traits to stick to. He writes about his family and friends in a realistic tone. Sedaris also manages to portray them in an unbiased way. Sedaris gets his message across in a light and conversational tone. Even personal or heavy topics are dealt with casual language. He makes his writing funny; it is often packed with sarcastic humor. Audiences are invited to follow the disturbing experiences and happenings upon the green mile in 1932 at the Cold Mountain Penitentiary death row. The film constructs Percy Wetmore as cruel, malevolent and aggressive, however, this is contrasted by the reality presented in the journal, through which he portrays characteristics of dedication, determination and intuition. Three scenes evident within both written evidence and film will be pinpointed in today s presentation explaining why my client, Percy Wetmore has been unjustly represented. Firstly, the Squashing of Mr. Jingles, secondly Delacroix s Execution, and thirdly, John Coffey s Arrival. It is apparent through the examination of the character construction of Percy Wetmore within the film, that the representation dehumanizes, exploits and manipulates the actions and intentions of Percy in a manner that is discriminatory. The book Outcasts United expounds the story of the challenges and triumphs of a group of refugee players, the strength and determination of an exceptional woman who coaches them, and their neighbourhood. Clarkston, Georgia was an ordinary town in the south until the government designated it as a refugee settlement centre in the early 1990s. as a result, the town became the first American neighbourhood for hundred of refugees fleeing the war torn zones such as Iraq, Sudan, Afghanistan, Liberia, and others. Another strategy is meditation, which helps a person reach a state of relaxation, but with the goal of achieving inner peace and harmony. • 25. Symptoms And Symptoms Of Insomnia Essay As a kid all I would want to do is pull all nighters , now all I want is to actually have one good night s sleep, or at least half a night s sleep. For those who are completely oblivious to what insomnia is it is characterized as a persistent lack of sleep, but those who have insomnia know that it is so much more than just a lack of sleep. For instance, there are actually different types of insomnia that are categorized by how long you stay awake, if lack of sleep last less than a week then it is considered Transient Insomnia, if it last one to three weeks its Short Term Insomnia, and if it last longer than three weeks it s called Chronic Insomnia. I myself suffer from insomnia, and my symptoms would usually last one to two weeks so I have Short Term Insomnia. Now I didn t know I had any problems till I was about seven years old, up till then I just thought I was a hyper energetic kid who just wants to stay up. Before I was diagnosed with insomnia I was a energetic kid who was always enthusiastic about everything, but as I grew older and school became more demanding I would be tired after school but I knew there was no way I could go to sleep still and I couldn t understand why. Sleep is for the weak, at least that s what I would try and tell myself. I wanted to believe that sleep was not as important as everyone says it is, but that quickly changed when the lack of sleep I was having was starting to affect my way of daily living. This volcano is classed as a stratovolcano, this is because its eruptions usually involve explosive eruptions and pyroclastic flows. It has erupted more than 50 times. Mount Vesuvius is most famous for its eruption that took place in the year 79 A.D. This eruption was the destruction of Pompeii and other surrounding cities, like Herculaneum. This eruption had buried the ancient roman city, known as Pompeii under a blanket of volcanic ash. The Ancient City of Pompeii held 20,000 residents, had thriving markets, beautiful homes, indoor running water, public baths and a beautiful port, which was used for many imports and exports to keep their economy alive and thriving. The emperor at this time was Emperor Titus. Emperor Titus had succeeded his father after Emperor Vespasian s death and he was also a member of the Flavian dynasty. The 24th of august 79 A.D. was a normal day for the Ancient Romans living in Pompeii, their markets were thriving and there was not a single worry about the danger of the supposed mountain , the Ancient Romans believed that Mount Vesuvius was a hill or a mountain, not a volcano at this time. Around 8AM in the city of Pompeii, small tremors had occurred and smoke from Mount Vesuvius had appeared into the sky slowly. • 27. A Healthy Lifestyle Is Not Going On Diets Health consists with temperance alone (Alexander Pope). When trying to create a modification in your health, consistency is needed. To have consistency you need temperance. A healthy lifestyle is not going on diets. A diet is defined as restricting oneself to a special course of foods in order to lose weight over a specific amount of time (diet). A problem with diets is the yo yo effect. This is where a person goes through a cycle of repetitive loss and regaining of body weight (Weight). This is not a way of achieving a healthy life, but just a way to believe you are. Temperance is the most consistent virtue needed when trying to achieve a healthy lifestyle. Temperance is abstaining from the desires of the greatest pleasures. These pleasures can be found in the consumption of food and drinks. They are a result of mainly the sense of touch. While the rest of the senses follow after. For example, the smell of food, it is creating power to the pleasurable operation of items that are interrelated to the sense of touch (McManaman). Temperance, therefore, applies to living a healthy lifestyle. To be healthy you must abstain from the things that are bad for you and have moderations of what is beneficial. When you eat more than the stomach can accommodate, it will stretch extraordinarily large. Therefore, the body s blood supply will divert to the stomach instead of the rest of the body where it is supposed to be going. The result of this is feeling tired after the large meal ... In this essay I will explain Meno s paradox, and then I will analyse the theory of recollection , the solution to it given by Plato. In Plato s Meno, Socrates and Meno attempt to answer the question, What is virtue? Through this discussion, Meno is lead to question whether they are even able to arrive at an answer, presenting us with the paradox of inquiry, And how will you enquire, Socrates, into that which you do not know? What will you put forth as a subject of enquiry? And if you find what you want, how will you ever know that this is the thing which you did not know? (Meno 80d). He draws geometric figures in the ground and asks the slave to work out how long the sides of a square, of twice the area, would be. Initially, he gets the answer wrong but, through guidance from Socrates, eventually he reaches the correct answer. Socrates never actually explains anything to the boy, but instead helps him to think for himself. Socrates argues that, as the slave reaches this conclusion by himself, he is recollecting knowledge he already possessed. (Meno 84 85). However, Socrates use of the slave boy appears to be a flawed proof of the theory of recollection. Is it not feasible that the slave just has the innate ability to reason mathematically? We can oppose that the slave is recalling prior knowledge, and instead accept that he is activating inherent skill. Further, Socrates guides him to the correct answer through questioning; He claims this simply spurred on his recollection of a priori knowledge, but arguably this means the boy didn t make this discovery by himself. It s unlikely that the boy could arrive to this answer without any help at all and appears that Socrates feeds the boy the answer through a series of carefully constructed questions. There are several arguments that are realize throughout this book concerning why Solomon needed to write his book telling his story. The reason Solomon Northup wrote this book was to bring the treatment of slaves to the frontline. He wanted to express the reality of slavery and what it was like to be a slave. He strived to teach people that were blinded from slavery within the North of how slave was in the South. Solomon decided to give an account of him being a slave and the way African Americans were being treated within the southern states. Solomon wanted others to see that slaves were people that grew weak and tired also. By reading this book I saw that this was an experience of a naïve man. This book was in great detail and was ordered by Solomon North s encounters while being a slave. He was able to think about all of the points he believe was necessary enough to inform the world. They propose that a continuum between qualitative and quantitative characteristics observed in nature could resonate within social science. A further difference concerns standardisation. Ercikan and Roth identify that both involve subjective judgments in the construction of data.
