Descartes Method Of Doubt Essay
Question: Describe Descartes method of doubt. What beliefs does Descartes think survive his
method of doubt? Do you agree with his arguments? RenГ© Descartes (1556 1650) considered a
rationalist claims that before we can describe reality or what it means to exist, one must know
what reality and existence is. Descartes proposed that it is pointless to claim something is real
without justification. However for something to be justified it must be also be indubitable. In
[RenГ© Descartes, Meditation I, 1641] Descartes argues that ones beliefs can be systematically
doubted. All truths, for example; beliefs, ideas, thoughts, and matter should be doubted in order
to build a belief system that is indubitable. In this essay I will discuss the methods of doubt; these
include perceptual illusions, the dream problem, and a deceiving God. I will also discuss the
phrase I am, I exist and I am a thinking thing that passed the method the doubt. I will use these
methods of doubt and phrases to explain why the arguments are either weak or strong and whether
I agree to their meaning. The Method of Doubt Descartes s task in essence was to create a system
that would support indubitable knowledge; a creation that would allow a foundation for the
expansion of the truth and remove all doubt from knowledge. This means that if something is to be
true it is to be known beyond all reasonable and possible doubt. To do this Descartes uses the
following method: 1. Accepting only information that

Persuasive Essay On Elephant
Many people aren t aware of how many elephants are killed each year by poachers. These poachers
want to kill elephants for their tusks which contain ivory. I believe that elephants should not be
poached for the ivory that their tusks contain. The elephant population has decreased tremendously,
and in 1997, only about 600,000 elephantswere left. Poachers are killing about 35,000 elephants
every year, and this should stop right away. Elephants are on the verge of becoming extinct.
Knowing this, some of you might be sad, while others might think that this has no effect on you
personally. Well, as a matter of fact, if they become extinct, it might have a bigger effect on you
then you would think. Actually, There is a stark correlation between... Show more content on

I strongly believe this should stop immediately. The amount of elephants on this earth is slowly
decreasing, and there will eventually be none left. Would you rather have a nice keychain and
fancy piano keys, or would you rather have a smart creature go extinct and never be seen again? If
possible, there are many organizations you could donate to that help elephants. They are wonderful
creatures, and the species deserves to live a long life on this planet.

Introduction To Oceanography Analysis
My name is Megan Murray and I am a present sophomore at Cornell University in Ithaca, New
York. Here at Cornell, I am currently majoring in Communication with a minor in Business in the
College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. Due to Cornell s distribution requirements, I have had the
to opportunity to enroll in a class that has made immediate impacts on my life. Bruce Monger, the
professor of Introduction to Oceanography, has generously shared with the class his knowledge and
passion for the environment. While writing this letter is a requirement for the class, it is also an
incredible opportunity to share with you my personal opinions regarding climate changeand in
return, learn what New York State is currently doing and can do in the future to benefit the
environment. In Professor Monger s class, we discuss not only climate change, but also a plethora
of other topics that are of concern to the world around us. For example, class topics cover whale
population, coral bleaching, sustainability, ocean conservation and many other matters in addition
to climate change. What I have come to realize throughout the semester is that even the smallest
changes make a positive impact on our environment. Over the... Show more content on

Methane, nitrous oxide, carbon dioxide, and water vapor are four of the main gasses that are
contributing to global warming and the greenhouse effect. Humans, yes humans, are one of the
principal reasons for this. Two of the most obvious human activities that contribute to global
warming are the burning of fossil fuels and clearing forests. While I am aware that there are
regulations for both of these issues, I often wonder, will it be too late? If we as people, a state, and
a country do not act immediately and efficiently, future generations will ultimately suffer from our

The Consequences Of Drunk Driving
The Court described the damage that the country suffers from drunk driving every year as follows:
Alcohol consumption is a leading cause of traffic fatalities and injuries. During the past decade,
annual fatalities in drunk driving accidents ranged from 13,582 deaths in 2005 to 9,865 deaths in
2011. The most recent data report a total of 9,967 such fatalities in 2014 on average, one death
every 53 minutes. Our cases have long recognized the carnage and slaughter caused by drunk
drivers. The Court noted that the State s interests do not end once the drunk driver is arrested
contrary to the Justice Sotomayor s assertion in her dissent. Instead, the Court stated that the
interest continues through the suspect s conviction, because... Show more content on

The Age Of The Upper Class
From 1837 to 1901 marks a new era for England, as it is ruled under Queen Victoria bringing an
age of peace, prosperity, and a new nationalistic attitude within England itself. The large increase
in population and a shift to a trade and manufacturing economy brings a new sense of competition
amongst the citizens, developing a new value in aesthetics, status, and wealth to prove dominance
in the ever growing society. Economic success, an ideal which began as a strictly upperclass
desire, soon trickled down to the lower classes as new economic focuses permitted the conditions
of the lower classes to improve due to the growing demand in industrial jobs. With social mobility
at several poverty stricken citizen s footsteps, many could not help but to project the feelings of the
upper class in their social lifestyles. An overarching attitude of competition in Victorian eraEngland
brought way to the diminishment of the former hierarchical notions as all classes displayed similar
characteristics: the fixation on vanity, the indulgence in hedonistic tendencies, and the corruption
accompanying influence, all of which are apparent in the dramatic novel The Picture of Dorian Gray
by Oscar Wilde, and poems by Alfred Tennyson, Matthew Arnold, and Robert Browning. Oscar
Wilde s exceptional novel, The Picture of Dorian Gray, follows a seemingly innocent young man
who initially partakes under the wing of his accomplice, Basil Hallward, to let him paint him. After

Essay On Swatch
Swatch is a watch brand that was created in the late 1970s. It has a strong identity which
separates it s from many other watch brands such as rolex, ice, dolce and gabbana. For example
rolex is a brand that is known to be expensive and valuable. Ice are known for plastic watches
which have exciting colours and are bold. Swatch watches are also made out of plastic and is

The Threat of Love in Orwell’s Novel 1984 Essays
Love is both the foundation and the weakness of a totalitarian regime. At the heart of any
totalitarian society, love between two individuals is eliminated because only a relationship
between the person and the party and a love for its leader can exist. The totalitarian society
depicted throughout the Orwell s novel 1984 has created a concept of an Orwellian society.
Joseph Stalin s Soviet regime in Russia can be described as Orwellian. The imaginary world of
Oceania draws many parallels to the modern day totalitarian regime established by Stalin. For
example, in the novel it was the desire of the Party to eliminate love and sex, in order to channel
this pent up passion towards the love of Big Brother. Similarly, Stalin used propaganda... Show

Thus, the Cult of Personality was flourishing. Propaganda glorifying Stalin and Soviet ideals
brainwashed the minds of Russian people. Stalin successfully impressed his socialist
philosophies on millions of workers and peasants. Over time, socialism transformed into
Stalinism, and it took hold. Stalin was able to hypnotize people towards one belief, the love of
Stalin. When they saw Stalin being portrayed heroically everyday in the news or on posters, they
began to idolize him. Stalin is like Big Brother; he was the main focus and had total power over
the people and their actions. The description of Big Brother himself bears a physical
resemblance to Stalin and his cult of personality. Orwell s Big Brother is an all seeing, all
knowing figure with ultimate authority. Soviet Russia was Orwellian in the sense that individual
thought was eliminated and all emotion was directed towards the nation and the figure of Stalin
himself. It is difficult to find accurate accounts of specific relationships that occurred in Soviet
Russia. However, Orwell s 1984 bears such close resemblance to Soviet Russia that it gives an
accurate example of the ultimate failure of love between two individuals in a totalitarian regime.
In 1984, the goal of the Party was to eliminate love and loyalty because these two qualities create
bonds between two people. It is these bonds that are the biggest threat to the Party because they
result in Ownlife. The Party

Debate On Morality With And Without God
M. SURBER
BCOR
STEP II: PAPER OUTLINE
Topic of debate: Morality with/without God
I.Introduction:
a.Throughout my life I have been involved in a dynamic battle that always comes back to one
question: Is there such a thing as God ? I have been raised up in a pretty much non practicing
Christian home. Growing up in this type of lifestyle I have encountered a multitude of different
belief systems that were either Secular or Christian like. But with this debate of if God is real or not,
I have come across the issue of how to walk out my life with the time that I have. This paper will
go through the debate of the topic of morality in secular mindsets, and Christian mindsets. I hope
to help you, my reader, understand the questions: Does morality require God, or is it possible to
be a moral atheist? If not, then where does morality s basis come from in a secular world? And
how do Christians and Secularist think similarly and differently on the topics of morality.
b.Talk about the debate between morality in Christian thought and secular:
i.Is morality good centrally because it is good, or is morality good because it is an attribute of God?
II.THESIS:
a.Christians and secularist have different points of view when it comes down to belief in God,
however all of mankind has morality written into our DNA. This can be seen in secularist through
understanding the secular mindset through modernism and its evolution of reason out of Darwin s
theories. This also can be seen

How To Get Rid Of Mice At Home
Contrary to what the cartoons portray them to be, mice can be dangerous even deadly if they
infest our household. House mice, more than field mice, are scavengers and can be carriers of so
many disease. The black plague that hit Europe and decimated thousands and thousands of people
throughout that continent was caused by mice feces contaminating the food and water system.
This also lead to new thinking about sanitation systems, most of which are still being used today.
Mice and rats may seem harmless but they are not. There are many ways of getting rid of mice.
Here are some things you can do to prevent them from entering your home: Keep your homes and
its surroundings clean. Mice like to dwell in dark, damp, cluttered and filthy areas.

Archetypal Hero
Introduction
Take a minute to think about your favorite comic book character or the superhero that you admired
the most during your childhood and adolescent years. To name a few, Batman, Spiderman, Harry
Potter, Hercules, and more were just some of the beloved comic book and movie characters that
were enjoyed by children and adults alike. They portrayed the traditional archetypal hero, which
was to conquer evil and bring peace to the land and to the world. Over the years, they have
become role models to children all over the nation, as children would often dress up as their favorite
character for Halloween or buy toys at various stores. Also, they were highly praised by society
because they were considered the good guy . However, what all these characters have in
common is that they are fictional. The depiction of the traditional hero in the media and literature
has had an impact on American culture for decades. From their brave spirits, to their brute
strength, and selfless personalities made the character appealing to the average person because it
gave this ideal almost perfect image of the person that people wished they could be. Despite the
fact that these characters and their qualities are completely fictional, the praise and the admiration
that the character received at the end of the book or movie due to their heroic deeds targeted
every person s secret desire, which is to be respected, honored, and accepted not only by family and
friends, but by society as

Diversity And Leadership Commitment To Multi-Cultural...
OLCU 618 Test One Heidi Wempen 5/18/16
1.What does it mean when one is said to be culturally programmed to act in a certain way?
The context given in the text is that culture provides us with an effective framework. So that we
know when and how to behave in various situations. Every culture is different so the frameworks
that apply are different. In this way we are programed by our culture. (Moodian, 2009, p. 11 15).
2.How is culture ever changing and dynamic?
A culture, in order to continue cannot stagnate. Culture are always changing due to various
influences (immigration, government change or media). Change often slowly which is not
surprising when it is considered that culture is typically passed down from generation to generation.

4.Why is executive level support important and what are 3 key ways to gaining leadership
commitment to multi cultural diversity? Executive level support is important because grassroots
movements rarely inspire change. Without executive commitment attention to diversity any
programs will likely fall by the wayside.
Three ways of gaining executive commitment to diversity are to gather data and to assess the
organizations current commitment to diversity to show where and why there is a need for
change. The development of diversity council can also garner executive support because it offers
a way for executive members of an organization to have a dialog with other members of an
organization about diversity. Systematic changes are also necessary such as hiring from a diverse
roster of candidates when filling a position. (Moodian, 2009,

Expectationships And Personal Relationships
People are relational and communicative human beings who, often, fail at being relational and
communicative with other human beings, such as their life partners. Humans enter relationships
for multitudes of reasons, but most are searching for someone to love and build a life with.
However, people have different concepts of what a life together constitutes. When people begin to
build a relationship with a partner they bring a variety of expectations into the partnership. These
expectations may apply to one, the other, or both members of the relationship and they may, or
may not, be in accordance to the expectations that the other person has brought into the
relationship. Expectations can complicate or simplify relationships; similarly, expectations can
make or break relationships. My husband and I have been together for over seven years, but
married a little over one year. My husband and I s changing relational dynamic has been evaluated
through both of us taking the Household Survey. The discussion that followed showed that we
disagree about the division of household chores and aspects of our future family, but we have
similar perspectives about our finances. As shown in the survey, Cade and I disagree about the
division of various household chores, such as dishes, grocery shopping, laundry, and cleaningthe
house. Before we got married both Cade and I knew that we were not the most organized or chore
focused people. When we are together we would rather enjoy the quality

Evaluating An Informative Speech
In an informative speech, the quintessential aspect that can make or break your speech is the
audience. If the audience is a group of 12 year olds, then giving a speech on how to retire at 65
is not going to draw a positive response. Knowing certain demographics about the audience,
including age, gender, race and many others should determine the topic of your speech.
Accordingly, the relevancy of my speech played a pivotal role in its effectiveness because of how
relatable an issue it was to my audience. Also, sharing the same demographic with the audience
gave the speech a more familiar tone, than the normal speech given by someone who is older. In
my informative speech, I effectively discussed the correct process of how to buy textbooks with
minor errors because of an effective introduction, clear and concise content and relevant topic. An

What I Have A Person Off The Bayou
You can take a person off the bayou, but you cannot take the bayou out of the person. Not
everyone is proud of where they come from, but I am. I have been stereotyped many times in my
life, but one has to remember that people will think whatever they want and at the end of the day,
you should be proud of your culture. Louisianan has always been known for being a melting pot
of rich diverse culture, but there are still people who think that we travel by pirogue. Growing up I
experienced this kind of stereotypefrom people I met who lived a mere 45 minutes from my own
hometown. I have always kept a positive attitude about it because I am proud of where I come from.
I have also experienced stereotyping just for being a woman. It is under the assumptions that
because I am a woman I am suppose to be weak. I do not believe this to be true at all, but certain
people do believe that it is true. I think a woman is as strong as she thinks she is and can do
anything she sets her mind to. I am a marathon runner and I always I run like a girl, but when I say
that I meant it that running like a girl means running to fierce, running to be strong, running to be a
better version of myself than I was yesterday, running to learn to love my body, but more
importantly running for all those who cannot. I do not think that a woman should be degraded to
saying that she is not strong enough to do something.
I have also experienced stereotyping because of my religion. People think that just

Expressionism In Pink Panther
When examining art, art theory can provide useful tools in understanding, appreciating, and
extracting both superficial and deeper meanings from the work. It also assists in quantifying what
art is; the case has been made that artistic license does not equate art, and boundaries help to create
context and meaning. In Terry Barrett s book, Why is That Art?: Aesthetics
and Criticism of
Contemporary Art, he delves into art theory through the lens of realism, cognitivism, and
expressionism, using contributions from theorists both ancient and modern. Renowned pop artist,
Jeff Koons, presents something of an analytical conundrum in much of his art, as it can be analyzed
through the lens of all three categories. His sculpture, Pink Panther, when analyzed through realism,
provides a succinct reflection of many deeply ingrained cultural attitudes and expectations. The
following will analyze Pink Panther using realism theory, offering a sample process of how such an
analysis could occur. It will also subsequently evaluate the interpretation, highlighting the strengths
and weaknesses that can be found when applying certain perspectives in art theory to a specific
work of art.
Realism Interpretation In Pink Panther, Koons used glazed porcelain to sculpt the image on the
Pink Panther cartoon embracing a topless woman, who is holding her breast. The fluidity of line is
realistic, but the reflective glaze renders the figures shiny like a plastic toy. This, combined with
the array of bold

How Muscoskeletal Systems Affect The Running Speed Of Homo...
Juan Vielma

How Muscoskeletal systems affect the running speed of Homo sapiens Acinonyx jubatus Why do
cheetahs run faster than humans for short intervals but humans run for a longer time? The cause of
this is because the cheetah and human contain different muscle fibers in their body. The different
muscle fiber results in the muscles being used differently depending on the situation. In this
research we will identify what the different muscle fibers are and how they work in each organism.
The A. jubatus and the H. sapiens have completely different body structures when compared to each
other. The reason as to which they are being compared is to identity the similarities and differences

The objective of the experiment is to understand why the A. jubatus and H. sapiens common
ability to run differs greatly. The experiment will analyze the different type of muscle tissue that
each organism has in their muscles and why the muscle tissues behave differently for each
organism. My hypothesis is that A. jubatus will have a greater amount of a specific muscle fiber
in their muscles when compared to the H. Sapiens. A way to look at the muscle tissue of the A.
jubatus is to look at the fiber composition of the muscles and categorize them. By identifying the
fiber composition we will be able to investigate what each muscle fiber does and what its action
is. It is known that skeletal muscles contain different types of muscle fibers (Burke, 1981). Muscle
fibers can be classified into Type I, Type IIa, Type IIb, and Type IIx by staining them with
monoclonal antibody for each myosin heavy chain isoform and metabolic enzyme activities (Pette
and Staron, 1993, 1997) For H. sapiens, there are two main types of fast contracting muscle
fibers which are Type II and those are subdivided into Type IIa and Type IIb. These type of
muscle fibers have different resistances to fatigue. Resistance to fatigue contributes to how
effectively the muscle fibers access energy. The reason H. sapiens are able to run for much longer
is because their leg muscles contain the muscle fibers IIa and IIb. The IIa muscle fibers have a
high capacity for

How to Handle Conflict
How to Handle Conflict by Andrew E. Schwartz
For many of us, every day is a struggle to avoid conflict. Yet avoidance is practically impossible
since the core characteristics, ideas and beliefs of each individual often conflict with our own.
Differences of opinion, competitive zeal, and misinterpretations, among other factors, can all
generate ill feelings between co workers within an organization. While we can t avoid conflict, we
can learn how to sidestep negative confrontations by becoming familiar with the types of conflicts
that most commonly arise in the work place and by learning how to resolve them.
As a manager, you must approach every conflict as an opportunity to improve employee

Once you have identified a conflict, you must plan a course of action. Decide whether the conflict
is important enough to confront the conflicting parties. Make careful assessments of both the
conflict and the conflict s impact on the individuals and the organization. The said conflict could
just be an intense brainstorming session (which you must not short circuit).
If you deem confrontation is necessary, however, confront the parties separately. Confront them in a
neutral setting for a down to earth chat. If the conflict is in its early stages, resolution might be
easily and quickly achieved now.
During the confrontation, the cause of the conflict must be determined. After the confrontation, the
manager needs to reflect on the discussion and reach an objective solution for both parties to agree
upon. There will be times when the parties will not agree: in this case, use your own judgment.
Your primary objective is to find a solution. The manager dips into his resources and either reduces
or eliminates the conflict. To accomplish this you need to elicit enough information to understand
each employees member s opinion and to define the problem in mutual terms.
Once a solution is implemented, you must make regular checks on the parties to insure that their
agreements are being kept. If the process is successful, both parties need to be attempting to work
the situation out. If not, confrontation must

Two types of information can typically be generarted when variables have no pattern, categorical or

The development of social media becomes more frequent in various parts of the world. It makes
the field of public relations experience changes both in the field of theory and practice. The
changes are not directly caused by the presence of social media, but social media offers many
opportunities for public relationspractitioners to interact with the public through the adaptation of
technology and integrate it into their daily activities (Curtis, 2010)
Social media is defined as the democratization of content and a shift in the role that made humans

Research on the impact of new media on public relations has been conducted by various researchers
abroad, such as study by Wright Hinson. Wright Hinson (2010) in their study found that new
communication media have brought dramatic changes in various aspects in this field. This fact
gives a clear picture of how the field of public relations must have the readiness to be able to adapt
to changes in the new media not to get stuck on the use of traditional media that had given a
positive benefit. Further, Weber (Wright Hinson, 2010) suggests that the world of communications
is dramatically shifted towards the digital and anyone who understands this transformation will be
communicating more effectively than those who do not understand.
Various forms of social media like podcasts, blogging, and video iPod are considered effective for
communicating with stakeholder organizations, both public and private. They are able to reach a
broad audience in a personal and continuous way to make media has an important value (Wilcox,

One of the significant changes in the field of public relations which is clearly visible is on the

The War of 1812 and Canadian History
The War of 1812 was an influential event, which marks its place in Canadian history. The heroic
efforts of Canadians helped to define who they are, determine what side of the border they live on,
and the flag they salute today. Therefore, The War of 1812 is the most significant historical event
that lay down the foundation for a nation. It united segregated colonies, secured borders with a
strong militia, and achieved the fundamental objective of defense.
Firstly, many groups of colonies worked in isolation because of different incentives. However
during the War of 1812, the small communities from different locations of British North America
united, securing relations. Prior to the war, many settlers in Upper Canada did not feel loyal to
Great Britain. Some were United Empire Loyalists, who had arrived from the North after the
American Revolution and believed that they would support and fight alongside with the Americans
instead of British North America. Others were American and had felt no connection towards the
Crown. But when the declaration for the war was given, both Upper and Lower Canada united and
came together collectively to fight against a common enemy, for the sake of their land. The
Montreal Gazette editor reports on the entire population of the city coming together to defend its
frontier:

The Properties of Chemical Reactions
Properties of Chemical Reactions
Ms. Whitty, Science 10
Fiona Adams, November 1st, 2012
Introduction
Chemical reactions are a part of our daily lives, from rusting metal to making bread to leaves
changing colour in the fall. A chemical reaction is the process that occurs when two or more
substances combine to produce a chemical change. When a chemical reaction takes place, the
change is indicated by one or more qualitative properties. The colour or odor could change, gas
could be produced, a precipitate a solid substance in a solution could be formed, or energy could
be absorbed or released. The substances initially involved in a chemical reaction are called
reactants. When chemical reactions occur, the end result is called a ... Show more content on

The acetic acid was clear, colorless and in a liquid state. The sodium bicarbonate, however, was a
white powder, in a solid state. The reaction caused the new substance to bubble and foam,
producing a gas.
(Table 4) Quantitative Observations from Part 2 Mass of Sodium Bicarbonate (g)| 1.01| Mass of
Acetic Acid (g)| 14.29| Mass of Products (g)| 14.88|
Analysis
Part 1:
The chemical reaction that took place was evidenced by several qualitative observations. The
colour of the two original substances was clear, and when combined the colour changed to
yellow a change of colour is clear evidence of a chemical reaction. The word equation for this
reaction would be potassium iodide + lead (II) nitrate Potassium nitrate and lead (II) iodide. In the
form of a balanced equation, this reaction would be 2KI + Pb(NO3)2 2KNO3 + PbI2.
Weighing both the reactants and the product showed that the mass of the reactants, with the
apparatus, was 140.26 grams. The mass of the product, with the apparatus, was also 140.26
grams the product of this reaction had the same mass as the reactants. These results were
expected, based on the Law of Conservation of Mass. The Law of Conservation of Mass is
neither created nor destroyed in a chemical reaction. The application of the Law of Conservation of
Mass means that the mass of products in a chemical reaction will equal the mass of the

An Insiders View Of The Us And Us Medical System Essay
As countries transition from a subsistence economy to an industrialized economy, they begin to
gain access to more resources that are essential for providing a long, healthy life for their citizens.
The United States and the United Kingdom are both developed countries that have large
populations. They both have excellent medical systems, however, they are structured slightly
different. In An Insider s view of the American and UK Medical Systems Jennifer S. Marsden, a

Throughout the article, Marsden addresses doctors and describes the differences in the medical
structure of the US and Uk by comparing how care is distributed and the economic aspect. In
order to contrast the medial structures, she uses the differences in the economies to separate the
systems even more. In the US hundreds of Americans are uninsured which means a routine
checkup can become very expensive for out of pocket payers, however in the Uk insurance is
not needed. While the Us is more expensive, the Uk provides service to all their citizens,
however, because their care is open to everyone there is more waiting involved in the UK
services. If you were to get injured in the Uk for example, first they need to decide the right
treatment then, depending on the severity of your case, you would wait in line behind others who
also need medical treatment. By going into specific detail she addresses doctors who are
interested in the Uk service and highlights important differences in the economy that affects
doctors. The US would pay doctors a greater amount, however, if you were to own a private
practice in the UK you could make more. As she describes the difference school she pulls towards
the doctors so they can understand how different their economy and healthcare work in the UK. By

Nowadays, society promotes an idea that everybody should think critically and be innovative.
This new idea let many people get confused and wonder whether we humans have the ability to

While as a matter of fact, we don t. We don t have the control of our own minddue to our instinct of

patient, Mario has electrode implanted in his brain to control obsessive compulsive disorder. Mario

Job Motivation And Salary Satisfaction
The wages for employees in child day care are not high in comparison to other professions (Van
Der Kwartel et al., 2007). When employees are content with their salary, they are likely subject to
mental agreements (Lee Lin, 2014). Job motivation and salary satisfaction are feelings that can
inspire employees and drive forces in competitive returns for organizations (Lee Lin, 2014).
Mental agreement signifies the expectation of the staff towards the organization and the
expectation of the organization towards the staff (Schein, 1980). Over a third of childcare staff
leaves their jobs annually in order to earn a better living (Whitebook, 1999). Igalens and Roussel
s (1999) study measured and compared the impact of compensation on job satisfaction and work
motivation of exempt (269) and nonexempt (297) employees. The findings revealed that fixed pay
could have a positive influence on job satisfaction on the principles of internal and external equity.
Internal equity refers to employees perception of their fixed pay as fair in relation to their
contributions to their organization, compared to other employees in the company used as a
reference. External equity denotes to employees feeling of being treated fairly, compared to other
employees outside their organization (Igalens Roussel). Heneman and Schwab (1985) defined
salary satisfaction as the degree to which employees were satisfied with their current salary.
Employees compared the efforts they made with the salary they

negative effects caused by magazine ads. In The Best Women s Health and Fitness Magazines it

Marketing Strategy Essay
METHODOLOGY
Objective of the project
We currently have a prototype of a product which is a new web application that would combine
groupware tools and social media. It is only a prototype however, and the company still wants to
come up with ways to improve it by either adding or removing features from it. A marketing

Traditional product analytics is usually metrics focused, and the function normally depends on
gathering as much quantity of data as possible on net promoter scores, cost of acquisition,
conversion rates, retention rates and so on.
Happiness:
Happiness focuses on information points like user surveys, where users tell you how much they
like the product.
Engagement:
Level of user involvement, typically measured via behavioral proxies such as frequency, intensity,
or depth of interaction over some time period.
Adoption:
New users of a site or app. Most users just try a new feature because it is new, instead of having an
inherent goal to adopt it because it is good. Hence it is important to understand the actual product
and what constitutes success by understanding how the user flow works from a design pattern
standpoint.
Retention:
The rate at which existing users are returning. That means customers are interested in this site or
app.
Task Success:
Traditional behavioral metrics of user experience, such as efficiency (e.g. time to complete a
task), effectiveness (e.g. percent of tasks completed), and error rate. This category is most
applicable to areas of your product that are very task focused, such as search or an upload flow.

The Need for International Labor Standards Essay
The Need for International Labor Standards
The statesman, who should attempt to direct private people in what manner they ought to employ
their capitals, would not only load himself with a most unnecessary attention, but assume an
authority which could safely be trusted, not only to no single person, but to no single council or
senate whatever, and which would nowhere be so dangerous as in the hands of a man who had
folly and presumption enough to fancy himself fit to exercise it (Smith, 1776: 456)

A Brief History of Labor Standards
In order to provide a clearer understanding of the need for labor standards in the international trade
regime it is prudent to examine the historical background of the issue. The first legal link made
between trade and labor standards in the United States manifested itself in the form of legislation
designed to reduce the threat of foreign goods being dumped into U.S. markets. The first laws
were implemented to this end in 1890, when the McKinley Tariff Act banned the import of goods
made with prison labor (International Labor Rights Fund). However, concern for labor rights was
merely a convenient byproduct of this legislation. In 1930 Congress took another step by passing
into law the U.S. Tariff Act of 1930, which banned the import of goods made with forced or
indentured labor.
The postwar era brought about a more multinational approach to dealing with trade issues, most
notably in the establishment of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) in 1948.
Although there were high hopes that international labor standards could be established, the GATT
made only vague references to the issue, and no concrete and enforceable standards were
established. Thus, there was no provision for member states to take action against other members

because they are soft on the inside and soft on the outside.
The jelly bean athletes are the ones that will hurt a team the most. These are the kinds that work
hard in front of the coach, but lack the effort behind his back. These are the types who go out at
night and are not a good role model for younger players. Once one player sees him careless about
what he does then they think they can do the same and then it starts a trend. These types are the

the way to a new beginning in America, a way to start over and forget the horrifying past they
encountered. The Irish struggled day after day to pay for fair travel to America. To many people,
the challenge the Irish overcame seemed to deserve praise. Today, the Irish are honored and
commemorated for their hard work and desire for a better life.
The start of the Irish peoples struggles began when the British came and destroyed their way of
life. The Penal laws of 1691 stripped Irish Catholics of their freedoms by taking away their rights to

People worried about the potato crop. At first, the potatos seemed fine, but after further
examination the potatos were rotten. In October of 1845, Britain s Prime Minister, Sir Robert
Peel, established a scientific commission to discover over half of Irelands potatos had been ruined
by wet rot. The potato crop failed time and time again. Irish people began to lose hope in receiving
better living conditions, but the shipping lanes opened to America after they had been closed by the
war (Philip). Irish began to think of the American dream and promise.
The American dream and promise changes a nations state of mind. It originally comes from the
Declaration of Independence. The promise is all men are created equal, that they are endowed by
their Creator with certain unalienable Rights. The dream: Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of
happiness. All of which were things the Irish desired (Pendry).
According to Philips, between 1815 and 1816, around 20,000 Irish traveled to the Americas.
These emigrants were mostly professionals and shopkeepers, because farmers couldn t afford
travel. Over the next two decades shipping fees continued to have outrageous prices, but between
1823 and 1825 more people, such as the merchants and farmers, were able to travel because free
passage and land grants were allowed to Catholics. The largest emigration was in 1827 when
nearly 400,000 Irish traveled to the Americas on Coffin Ships; overcrowded ships filled

Texas Gulf Coast of the United States. The city Galveston, Texas was the home of around 37,000
residents in the early 1900 s. This island grew from being a small settlement into one of the

Before the storm, the highest point of Galveston, Texaswas 8.7feet (2.7meters), but after the
hurricane, it had elevated 15.7 feet (depth of the water on the island).
On September 10th a message was sent out to Governor Joseph D. Sayers and President William
McKinley saying, I have never been deputized by the mayor and Citizen s Committee of
Galveston to inform you that the city of Galveston is in ruins. It took a long time to finally get the
word out of the hurricane because the damage was so bad and all telegraph lines and bridges to the
mainland were down.
Ships were left stranded and wrecked miles away from moorings. Thousands of homes were
washed away into the sea. Approximately 3,600 buildings were destroyed. Everything that was
destroyed was bulldozed 15 blocks from the beach. The damage cost was 20 million (700 million
today). It was the third costliest hurricane in U.S. history. 8,000 12,000 of the 37,000 people that

Giovanni Gabrieli Research Paper
Giovanni Gabrieli was a legendary composer of the 16th century. As the fundamental structure and
ideas of the Catholic Church were being challenged by the Protestant Reformation and the Counter
Reformation, Gabrieli s compositions were given the opportunity to be successful and influential to
music in the coming centuries. His works helped to transform not only church music of the Catholic
Church, but also secular music as well. Giovanni Gabrieli wrote significant works that ultimately
shaped the rise of the symphony, including the development of purely instrumental works, the art of
orchestration, and the concerto style. Without his innovations in composition, it is arguable that
instrumental music would not have developed as quickly, or developed... Show more content on

This led to several rebellions, which were silenced for a short time until they could not be repressed
anymore. Finally, in 16th century, Martin Luther and other reformers challenged Roman Catholic
authority and their corruption of the church, which is now known as the Protestant Reformation.
The revolts happened in many different countries the western world, however, they all had
fundamental ideas in common. Two changes they called for were the end of the church s hierarchy,
and the emphasis of everyone being able to access and individually learn the original Biblical
scriptures in their vernacular language (Taruskin, pg. 207 208). Even though the focus of this
revolution was not about music, the ideals ended up influencing church music. Many composers,
including Martin Luther, endeavored to make music more accessible by translating it into the
common, everyday language, shifting the singing in church services to the congregation rather than
just having the choir sing, and making music simpler for everyone to grasp. Luther wrote music in
the form of chorales and strophic union hymns that were taken from Gregorian chant (Taruskin, pg.
206 210). In response to the Protestant Reformation, the Counter Reformation emerged out of the
Catholic Church. Music took on a more inspirational quality, and its primary goal was to affect the
listener. Polychoral music was very popular, in addition to the concerted style (Taruskin, pg.

The Wisconsin Food Bank
Can you live on $4.00 a day for food? Be honest with your answer. That s how much some of us
spend on coffee or latte during the day. For more than 380,000 people right here in Wisconsin, it
s not a question. It s a reality. In September, designated as Hunger Action Month, we re asking our
supporters to experience that reality for one week. Called the Hunger Games Challenge,
participants are asked to live as if they are on foodstamps, now known as the federal Supplemental
NutritionAssistance Program.
Nearly 11 percent of people living in Wisconsin depend on food stamps to put food on their tables,
according to the latest report from the Food Research and Action Center.
The program helps people and families buy food. Eligible people receive a monthly benefit that
they can use to buy food, non alcoholic beverages and food producing seeds and plants.
For one week during Hunger Action Month, take the Hunger Games Challenge and see how you
would do.
The Wisconsin Food Bank is the recipient of a multi year gift from Smith County Community
Foundation that will double the number of children in the state who participate in its vitally
important Kids lunch Bag Program. Through the Foundation s initial gift of $200,000, more than
700 school children will receive nutritious food during weekends when other resources, including
free/reduced price school meals, are not available to them.
Well nourished children tend to have fewer illnesses and better school achievement than

Analysis Of Neighbours By Tim Winton
How does Tim Winton s short story Neighbours explore the transition of individuals into new
phases of life and new social context?
New experiences shock and captivate readers consequently prompting a reassessment of their
perceptions of respect, truth and friendship. Tim Wintons short story Neighbours confronts
individual stereotypes through exploring the multicultural context in which the story is set. Winton
explores the transition of a young couple into a new phase of life by describing their move to a
lower socioeconomic suburb full of European migrants . The composer does not name the
characters, rather calls them the Macedonian Family and the Polish man , in order to show their
cultural differences and highlight ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is shown through the emotive language of people smiled tirelessly at them and the positive
connotations associated with verb presents . Winton challenges the audience to question their
individual perspective upon society s moral truths and forces the revaluation of the values of
mateship. The composer is critiquing Australia s fractured historical truth through confronting
multiculturalism in society. Furthermore, Winton explores aspects of cultural acceptance through
showing the naivety of the young couple . The young man and young women are symbolic of the
lack of experience in the world and leaves them open to develop and mature as they experience
different aspects of the world. Thus, composers confront widely held perspectives regarding
mateship and acceptance to prompt a revelation of Australia s multicultural society.
New experiences prompt individuals to reconsider their upheld values in the social context in
which they re placed. Tim Wintons short story, Neighbours questions Australia s social discourse
by exploring the transition of individuals into a new phase of life. Winton challenges society s
ignorance and cultural stereotypes by displaying a provocative new experience which has the
ability to manipulate and change individuals perspectives. Society s ignorance can be

Snow Is All Grown Up
Snow was all grown up, she became exceedingly beautiful with her long black hair, pale smooth
skin and glistering red cheeks. Her father loved and spoiled her immensely, he d buy her all the
china dolls she adored to complete her collection. Her father had remarried to a tall, beautiful
blonde granting Snow a stepmother when she was only 7 years old. They had met at a business
conference in New York and instantly fell in love. At the age of 17 years old, the stepmother s envy
and jealousystarted growing stronger towards Snow as Snow got everything she desired and took
the spotlight. The stepmother took a glance in the mirror and began talking to herself, I m the
fairest of them all, not Snow as she continued to stare, she noticed the room getting darker, the
wrinkles on her face grew more visible and she noticed liver spots emerging on her arms. She
thought to herself, Snow must go, there s only room for one dominant gem in this household . The
mirrors became the stepmother s drug because they were her gateway keeper that guided her
decision making ultimately, triggering her jealousy and hatred towards the poor and innocent Snow.
One day, a letter showed up in their mailbox from an unknown person that was addressed for Snow.
The evil stepmother opened the letter and her eyes immediately wandered to the bottom of the
letter where it read: from yours truly, your mother. The evil stepmother was shocked because she

How Did Alcatraz Escape
Alcatraz
On June 11, 1962, Frank Morris and the two brothers, Clarence and John Anglin, escaped from
the prison Alcatraz in the middle of the San Francisco Bay. According to the ВЁInvestigationВЁ
article, the FBI closed the case in the year 1979 and the case was on going for 17 years. They
had pronounced in this article that they think that the three escapees had died but, I think
otherwise. There is a lot of evidence proving that these escapees are not dead. According to the
video, Did Frank Morris survive?ВЁ The day after the escape there was a raft found on angel
island and footprints heading away from the raft. This is a big clue because from interviewing
West he said there plan was to use the raft to make their way to angel island and so saying that they

the exact time the escapees escaped and the exact same tides that they were the night of and
when it hit that time they all started from the prison rooms that frank and the two brothers had
escaped from and took the way that they did until they hit the bay and noticed that they will not
be able to go to angel islands and either would have frank and the brothers so they must ve gone a
different way to escape to freedom. And so if he was this smart he could ve gotten into the water
and noticed that the currents were not going to take them to angel island and figured out another
way. He could have taken another way that was possible and that was to go the Marin Headlands
which the mythbusters also put to the tes and once they did they made it easy to the island without

  • 2. Descartes Method Of Doubt Essay Question: Describe Descartes method of doubt. What beliefs does Descartes think survive his method of doubt? Do you agree with his arguments? RenГ© Descartes (1556 1650) considered a rationalist claims that before we can describe reality or what it means to exist, one must know what reality and existence is. Descartes proposed that it is pointless to claim something is real without justification. However for something to be justified it must be also be indubitable. In [RenГ© Descartes, Meditation I, 1641] Descartes argues that ones beliefs can be systematically doubted. All truths, for example; beliefs, ideas, thoughts, and matter should be doubted in order to build a belief system that is indubitable. In this essay I will discuss the methods of doubt; these include perceptual illusions, the dream problem, and a deceiving God. I will also discuss the phrase I am, I exist and I am a thinking thing that passed the method the doubt. I will use these methods of doubt and phrases to explain why the arguments are either weak or strong and whether I agree to their meaning. The Method of Doubt Descartes s task in essence was to create a system that would support indubitable knowledge; a creation that would allow a foundation for the expansion of the truth and remove all doubt from knowledge. This means that if something is to be true it is to be known beyond all reasonable and possible doubt. To do this Descartes uses the following method: 1. Accepting only information that ... I believe that elephants should not be poached for the ivory that their tusks contain. The elephant population has decreased tremendously, and in 1997, only about 600,000 elephantswere left. Poachers are killing about 35,000 elephants every year, and this should stop right away. Elephants are on the verge of becoming extinct. Knowing this, some of you might be sad, while others might think that this has no effect on you personally. Well, as a matter of fact, if they become extinct, it might have a bigger effect on you then you would think. Actually, There is a stark correlation between... Here at Cornell, I am currently majoring in Communication with a minor in Business in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. Due to Cornell s distribution requirements, I have had the to opportunity to enroll in a class that has made immediate impacts on my life. Bruce Monger, the professor of Introduction to Oceanography, has generously shared with the class his knowledge and passion for the environment. While writing this letter is a requirement for the class, it is also an incredible opportunity to share with you my personal opinions regarding climate changeand in return, learn what New York State is currently doing and can do in the future to benefit the environment. In Professor Monger s class, we discuss not only climate change, but also a plethora of other topics that are of concern to the world around us. For example, class topics cover whale population, coral bleaching, sustainability, ocean conservation and many other matters in addition to climate change. What I have come to realize throughout the semester is that even the smallest changes make a positive impact on our environment. Over the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The most recent data report a total of 9,967 such fatalities in 2014 on average, one death every 53 minutes. Our cases have long recognized the carnage and slaughter caused by drunk drivers. • 6. The Age Of The Upper Class From 1837 to 1901 marks a new era for England, as it is ruled under Queen Victoria bringing an age of peace, prosperity, and a new nationalistic attitude within England itself. The large increase in population and a shift to a trade and manufacturing economy brings a new sense of competition amongst the citizens, developing a new value in aesthetics, status, and wealth to prove dominance in the ever growing society. Economic success, an ideal which began as a strictly upperclass desire, soon trickled down to the lower classes as new economic focuses permitted the conditions of the lower classes to improve due to the growing demand in industrial jobs. With social mobility at several poverty stricken citizen s footsteps, many could not help but to project the feelings of the upper class in their social lifestyles. An overarching attitude of competition in Victorian eraEngland brought way to the diminishment of the former hierarchical notions as all classes displayed similar characteristics: the fixation on vanity, the indulgence in hedonistic tendencies, and the corruption accompanying influence, all of which are apparent in the dramatic novel The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde, and poems by Alfred Tennyson, Matthew Arnold, and Robert Browning. Oscar Wilde s exceptional novel, The Picture of Dorian Gray, follows a seemingly innocent young man who initially partakes under the wing of his accomplice, Basil Hallward, to let him paint him. • 8. The Threat of Love in Orwell’s Novel 1984 Essays Love is both the foundation and the weakness of a totalitarian regime. At the heart of any totalitarian society, love between two individuals is eliminated because only a relationship between the person and the party and a love for its leader can exist. The totalitarian society depicted throughout the Orwell s novel 1984 has created a concept of an Orwellian society. Joseph Stalin s Soviet regime in Russia can be described as Orwellian. The imaginary world of Oceania draws many parallels to the modern day totalitarian regime established by Stalin. For example, in the novel it was the desire of the Party to eliminate love and sex, in order to channel this pent up passion towards the love of Big Brother. Similarly, Stalin used propaganda... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thus, the Cult of Personality was flourishing. Propaganda glorifying Stalin and Soviet ideals brainwashed the minds of Russian people. Stalin successfully impressed his socialist philosophies on millions of workers and peasants. Over time, socialism transformed into Stalinism, and it took hold. Stalin was able to hypnotize people towards one belief, the love of Stalin. When they saw Stalin being portrayed heroically everyday in the news or on posters, they began to idolize him. Stalin is like Big Brother; he was the main focus and had total power over the people and their actions. The description of Big Brother himself bears a physical resemblance to Stalin and his cult of personality. Orwell s Big Brother is an all seeing, all knowing figure with ultimate authority. Soviet Russia was Orwellian in the sense that individual thought was eliminated and all emotion was directed towards the nation and the figure of Stalin himself. It is difficult to find accurate accounts of specific relationships that occurred in Soviet Russia. However, Orwell s 1984 bears such close resemblance to Soviet Russia that it gives an accurate example of the ultimate failure of love between two individuals in a totalitarian regime. In 1984, the goal of the Party was to eliminate love and loyalty because these two qualities create bonds between two people. It is these bonds that are the biggest threat to the Party because they result in Ownlife. The Party ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Debate On Morality With And Without God M. SURBER BCOR STEP II: PAPER OUTLINE Topic of debate: Morality with/without God I.Introduction: a.Throughout my life I have been involved in a dynamic battle that always comes back to one question: Is there such a thing as God ? I have been raised up in a pretty much non practicing Christian home. Growing up in this type of lifestyle I have encountered a multitude of different belief systems that were either Secular or Christian like. But with this debate of if God is real or not, I have come across the issue of how to walk out my life with the time that I have. This paper will go through the debate of the topic of morality in secular mindsets, and Christian mindsets. I hope to help you, my reader, understand the questions: Does morality require God, or is it possible to be a moral atheist? If not, then where does morality s basis come from in a secular world? And how do Christians and Secularist think similarly and differently on the topics of morality. b.Talk about the debate between morality in Christian thought and secular: i.Is morality good centrally because it is good, or is morality good because it is an attribute of God? II.THESIS: a.Christians and secularist have different points of view when it comes down to belief in God, however all of mankind has morality written into our DNA. • 11. Archetypal Hero Introduction Take a minute to think about your favorite comic book character or the superhero that you admired the most during your childhood and adolescent years. To name a few, Batman, Spiderman, Harry Potter, Hercules, and more were just some of the beloved comic book and movie characters that were enjoyed by children and adults alike. They portrayed the traditional archetypal hero, which was to conquer evil and bring peace to the land and to the world. Over the years, they have become role models to children all over the nation, as children would often dress up as their favorite character for Halloween or buy toys at various stores. Also, they were highly praised by society because they were considered the good guy . However, what all these characters have in common is that they are fictional. The depiction of the traditional hero in the media and literature has had an impact on American culture for decades. From their brave spirits, to their brute strength, and selfless personalities made the character appealing to the average person because it gave this ideal almost perfect image of the person that people wished they could be. Despite the fact that these characters and their qualities are completely fictional, the praise and the admiration that the character received at the end of the book or movie due to their heroic deeds targeted every person s secret desire, which is to be respected, honored, and accepted not only by family and friends, but by society as ... The context given in the text is that culture provides us with an effective framework. So that we know when and how to behave in various situations. Every culture is different so the frameworks that apply are different. In this way we are programed by our culture. (Moodian, 2009, p. 11 15). 2.How is culture ever changing and dynamic? Executive level support is important because grassroots movements rarely inspire change. Without executive commitment attention to diversity any programs will likely fall by the wayside. Three ways of gaining executive commitment to diversity are to gather data and to assess the organizations current commitment to diversity to show where and why there is a need for change. The development of diversity council can also garner executive support because it offers a way for executive members of an organization to have a dialog with other members of an organization about diversity. Systematic changes are also necessary such as hiring from a diverse roster of candidates when filling a position. (Moodian, 2009, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Expectationships And Personal Relationships People are relational and communicative human beings who, often, fail at being relational and communicative with other human beings, such as their life partners. Humans enter relationships for multitudes of reasons, but most are searching for someone to love and build a life with. However, people have different concepts of what a life together constitutes. When people begin to build a relationship with a partner they bring a variety of expectations into the partnership. These expectations may apply to one, the other, or both members of the relationship and they may, or may not, be in accordance to the expectations that the other person has brought into the relationship. Expectations can complicate or simplify relationships; similarly, expectations can make or break relationships. My husband and I have been together for over seven years, but married a little over one year. My husband and I s changing relational dynamic has been evaluated through both of us taking the Household Survey. The discussion that followed showed that we disagree about the division of household chores and aspects of our future family, but we have similar perspectives about our finances. As shown in the survey, Cade and I disagree about the division of various household chores, such as dishes, grocery shopping, laundry, and cleaningthe house. Before we got married both Cade and I knew that we were not the most organized or chore focused people. When we are together we would rather enjoy the quality ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

If the audience is a group of 12 year olds, then giving a speech on how to retire at 65 is not going to draw a positive response. Knowing certain demographics about the audience, including age, gender, race and many others should determine the topic of your speech. Accordingly, the relevancy of my speech played a pivotal role in its effectiveness because of how relatable an issue it was to my audience. Also, sharing the same demographic with the audience gave the speech a more familiar tone, than the normal speech given by someone who is older. In my informative speech, I effectively discussed the correct process of how to buy textbooks with minor errors because of an effective introduction, clear and concise content and relevant topic. I have been stereotyped many times in my life, but one has to remember that people will think whatever they want and at the end of the day, you should be proud of your culture. Louisianan has always been known for being a melting pot of rich diverse culture, but there are still people who think that we travel by pirogue. Growing up I experienced this kind of stereotypefrom people I met who lived a mere 45 minutes from my own hometown. I have always kept a positive attitude about it because I am proud of where I come from. I have also experienced stereotyping just for being a woman. It is under the assumptions that because I am a woman I am suppose to be weak. I do not believe this to be true at all, but certain people do believe that it is true. I think a woman is as strong as she thinks she is and can do anything she sets her mind to. I am a marathon runner and I always I run like a girl, but when I say that I meant it that running like a girl means running to fierce, running to be strong, running to be a better version of myself than I was yesterday, running to learn to love my body, but more importantly running for all those who cannot. • 18. Expressionism In Pink Panther When examining art, art theory can provide useful tools in understanding, appreciating, and extracting both superficial and deeper meanings from the work. It also assists in quantifying what art is; the case has been made that artistic license does not equate art, and boundaries help to create context and meaning. In Terry Barrett s book, Why is That Art?: Aesthetics and Criticism of Contemporary Art, he delves into art theory through the lens of realism, cognitivism, and expressionism, using contributions from theorists both ancient and modern. Renowned pop artist, Jeff Koons, presents something of an analytical conundrum in much of his art, as it can be analyzed through the lens of all three categories. His sculpture, Pink Panther, when analyzed through realism, provides a succinct reflection of many deeply ingrained cultural attitudes and expectations. The following will analyze Pink Panther using realism theory, offering a sample process of how such an analysis could occur. It will also subsequently evaluate the interpretation, highlighting the strengths and weaknesses that can be found when applying certain perspectives in art theory to a specific work of art. Realism Interpretation In Pink Panther, Koons used glazed porcelain to sculpt the image on the Pink Panther cartoon embracing a topless woman, who is holding her breast. The fluidity of line is realistic, but the reflective glaze renders the figures shiny like a plastic toy. This, combined with the array of bold ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Juan Vielma 20368480 How Muscoskeletal systems affect the running speed of Homo sapiens Acinonyx jubatus Why do cheetahs run faster than humans for short intervals but humans run for a longer time? The cause of this is because the cheetah and human contain different muscle fibers in their body. The different muscle fiber results in the muscles being used differently depending on the situation. In this research we will identify what the different muscle fibers are and how they work in each organism. The A. jubatus and the H. sapiens have completely different body structures when compared to each other. The objective of the experiment is to understand why the A. jubatus and H. sapiens common ability to run differs greatly. The experiment will analyze the different type of muscle tissue that each organism has in their muscles and why the muscle tissues behave differently for each organism. My hypothesis is that A. jubatus will have a greater amount of a specific muscle fiber in their muscles when compared to the H. Sapiens. A way to look at the muscle tissue of the A. jubatus is to look at the fiber composition of the muscles and categorize them. By identifying the fiber composition we will be able to investigate what each muscle fiber does and what its action is. It is known that skeletal muscles contain different types of muscle fibers (Burke, 1981). Muscle fibers can be classified into Type I, Type IIa, Type IIb, and Type IIx by staining them with monoclonal antibody for each myosin heavy chain isoform and metabolic enzyme activities (Pette and Staron, 1993, 1997) For H. sapiens, there are two main types of fast contracting muscle fibers which are Type II and those are subdivided into Type IIa and Type IIb. These type of muscle fibers have different resistances to fatigue. Resistance to fatigue contributes to how effectively the muscle fibers access energy. The reason H. sapiens are able to run for much longer is because their leg muscles contain the muscle fibers IIa and IIb. The IIa muscle fibers have a high capacity for ... Yet avoidance is practically impossible since the core characteristics, ideas and beliefs of each individual often conflict with our own. Differences of opinion, competitive zeal, and misinterpretations, among other factors, can all generate ill feelings between co workers within an organization. While we can t avoid conflict, we can learn how to sidestep negative confrontations by becoming familiar with the types of conflicts that most commonly arise in the work place and by learning how to resolve them. Once you have identified a conflict, you must plan a course of action. Decide whether the conflict is important enough to confront the conflicting parties. Make careful assessments of both the conflict and the conflict s impact on the individuals and the organization. The said conflict could just be an intense brainstorming session (which you must not short circuit). If you deem confrontation is necessary, however, confront the parties separately. Confront them in a neutral setting for a down to earth chat. If the conflict is in its early stages, resolution might be easily and quickly achieved now. During the confrontation, the cause of the conflict must be determined. After the confrontation, the manager needs to reflect on the discussion and reach an objective solution for both parties to agree upon. There will be times when the parties will not agree: in this case, use your own judgment. Your primary objective is to find a solution. The manager dips into his resources and either reduces or eliminates the conflict. To accomplish this you need to elicit enough information to understand each employees member s opinion and to define the problem in mutual terms. Once a solution is implemented, you must make regular checks on the parties to insure that their agreements are being kept. More than likely, these patients will receive a prescription for antibiotics, but should they? Most acute respiratory tract infections (ARTIs), do not require an antibiotic, the symptoms will resolve themselves over time without antibiotic treatment. Healthcare experts and scientists have warned the public about the dangers of overusing antibiotics, and there are thousands of studies to support that fact, but no one is listening. It is unfortunate that I cannot say with certainty, just how widespread, the fad was, or now that I review, whether, the fad was a fad or a trend, because, I don t know exactly how long the popularity of this style began. Per Bruce Cohen (2013) a fad is something that spikes and wanes, where a trend sort of simmers and gradually becomes popular. I recall receiving a shipment of suits, regardless of the owner s intent for the suit, I immediately envisioned the Miami Vice look, which included a variation of Stacy Adams footwear, and short sleeve tee shirts. My first sale of the ensemble interrupted my completing the actual display; and the sales continued. The Need for International Labor Standards Essay The Need for International Labor Standards The statesman, who should attempt to direct private people in what manner they ought to employ their capitals, would not only load himself with a most unnecessary attention, but assume an authority which could safely be trusted, not only to no single person, but to no single council or senate whatever, and which would nowhere be so dangerous as in the hands of a man who had folly and presumption enough to fancy himself fit to exercise it (Smith, 1776: 456) Introduction There is no question that the combination of the free market and rapidly advancing technologies has integrated the world economy to a level unsurpassed in history. In the quote that begins this chapter, Adam Smith ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A Brief History of Labor Standards In order to provide a clearer understanding of the need for labor standards in the international trade regime it is prudent to examine the historical background of the issue. The first legal link made between trade and labor standards in the United States manifested itself in the form of legislation designed to reduce the threat of foreign goods being dumped into U.S. markets. The first laws were implemented to this end in 1890, when the McKinley Tariff Act banned the import of goods made with prison labor (International Labor Rights Fund). However, concern for labor rights was merely a convenient byproduct of this legislation. In 1930 Congress took another step by passing into law the U.S. Tariff Act of 1930, which banned the import of goods made with forced or indentured labor. The postwar era brought about a more multinational approach to dealing with trade issues, most notably in the establishment of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) in 1948. Although there were high hopes that international labor standards could be established, the GATT made only vague references to the issue, and no concrete and enforceable standards were established. Thus, there was no provision for member states to take action against other members who ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This led to several rebellions, which were silenced for a short time until they could not be repressed anymore. Finally, in 16th century, Martin Luther and other reformers challenged Roman Catholic authority and their corruption of the church, which is now known as the Protestant Reformation. The revolts happened in many different countries the western world, however, they all had fundamental ideas in common. Two changes they called for were the end of the church s hierarchy, and the emphasis of everyone being able to access and individually learn the original Biblical scriptures in their vernacular language (Taruskin, pg. 207 208). Even though the focus of this revolution was not about music, the ideals ended up influencing church music. Many composers, including Martin Luther, endeavored to make music more accessible by translating it into the common, everyday language, shifting the singing in church services to the congregation rather than just having the choir sing, and making music simpler for everyone to grasp. Luther wrote music in the form of chorales and strophic union hymns that were taken from Gregorian chant (Taruskin, pg. 206 210). In response to the Protestant Reformation, the Counter Reformation emerged out of the Catholic Church. Music took on a more inspirational quality, and its primary goal was to affect the listener. Polychoral music was very popular, in addition to the concerted style (Taruskin, pg. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
