This document outlines tasks for a unit on genetics and genetic engineering. It includes three tasks: 1) A presentation on current genetic engineering techniques and applications in industry; 2) A practical report on controlling gene expression of beta galactosidase in prokaryotes; 3) A poster and 1,000 word essay comparing prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells for genetic engineering. The goals are to explain prokaryotic gene expression control, demonstrate understanding of the lac operon, and explain why prokaryotes are preferred over eukaryotes for genetic engineering. The tasks will be assessed to achieve a pass, merit, or distinction grade.
