Process Product Matrix

Process Product Matrix
The process product matrix merges the product
lifecycle, which encompasses all aspects of the
product development process from ideation to a
product’s growth or decline with the process
lifecycle, the progression towards a more cost-
effective and productive standardized structure.
Product leaders can use the matrix to educate
teams, stakeholders, and departments within the
organization on the product-process lifecycle of a
project.

Advantage of Process Product Matrix
• Invites broader thinking about organizational
competence and competitive advantage.
• Enables greater involvement during planning, leading
to better alignment among departments and the
organization as a whole.
• Provides a pathway to more informed predictions
and strategic responses to industry shifts and
changes.
• Used to identify business opportunities and guide
investment decisions
www.sanjivanimba.org.in
Disadvantage Process Product Matrix
• Is static with limited product variety.
• Dimensions are too simple.
• Based on current products

Job Production
Job production, sometimes called jobbing or one-off
production, involves producing custom work, such as a
one-off product for a specific customer or a small batch
of work in quantities usually less than those of mass-
market products.
Job production, involves intermittent process as the work
is carried as and when the order is received. It consists
of bringing together of material, parts and components
in order to assemble and commission a single piece of
equipment or product.

Batch Production
Batch production is a method of manufacturing where the
products are made as specified groups or amounts, within
a time frame. A batch can go through a series of steps in a
large manufacturing process to make the final desired
product.
Batch production is used for many types of manufacturing
that may need smaller amounts of production at a time to
ensure specific quality standards or changes in the process.

Assembly Line
An assembly line is a production process that
divides up the labor process. It breaks up
the manufacture of a good into steps that
are completed in a pre-defined sequence.
An assembly line process consists of highly
similar goods produced in a repetitive
manner. Workstations are set up so that
products can pass through them in a
sequential order that allows the goods to be
produced in the most efficient manner.

Continuous Flow Production
•Continuous flow processes require specialized
equipment in order to work continuously. This can only
be possible when your range of products is extremely
limited and you’re required to produce them in an
extremely high volume.
•Continuous flow is a Lean method that allows you to
move a single product through every step of your
process instead of grouping work items into batches.
The method is called this way because it allows you to
send goods to the market continuously. This provides
you with the opportunity to deliver value more often to
your customers.

Process Layout
• Process layout:- These layouts involve various processes and
machines but they may not be continuous. It also has the
flexibility to place the machines at various locations and each
machine produces different products.
• A process layout is based on the nature of the process
through which the product should move in the course of
manufacture. Process layout is effected by way of arranging
similar operations in a particular place. So under process
layout, similar processes or equipment are grouped together.
• Process layout is particularly designed for industries
producing goods like furniture, tools etc. Besides, this type of
layout is suitable only for manufacturing articles in small
quantities.

Process Layout
www.sanjivanimba.org.in
Product Layout
• The product layout can be defined as an
arrangement or a mechanism of various machines
run to produce the final product in a prescribed
order.
• Product layout is another type of layout that has a
structured arrangement of various machines that
work for a single kind of product.
• The product layout requires huge investment and a
wide space to arrange the equipment. On the other
hand, process layout doesn’t require much
investment and one can choose multiple locations to
place different machines.
