Adaptive filtering is one of the most important areas in digital signal processing to remove background noise and distortion. In last few years various adaptive algorithms are developed for noise cancellation. In this paper we present an implementation of LMS (Least Mean Square), NLMS (Normalized Least Mean Square) and RLS (Recursive Least Square) algorithms on MATLAB platform with the intention to compare their performance in noise cancellation. We simulate the adaptive filter in MATLAB with a noisy ECG signal and analyze the performance of algorithms in terms of MSE (Mean Squared Error), SNR Improvement, computational complexity and stability. The obtained results shows that RLS has the best performance but at the cost of large computational complexity and memory requirement.

Abstract: A wide area of research has been done in the field of noise removal in Electrocardiogram signals.. Electrocardiograms (ECG) play an important role in diagnosis process and providing information regarding heart diseases. In this paper, we propose a new method for removing the baseline wander interferences, based on discrete wavelet transform and Butterworth/Chebyshev filtering. The ECG data is taken from non-invasive fetal electrocardiogram database, while noise signal is generated and added to the original signal using instructions in MATLAB environment. Our proposed method is a hybrid technique, which combines Daubechies wavelet decomposition and different thresholding techniques with Butterworth or Chebyshev filter. DWT has good ability to decompose the signal and wavelet thresholding is good in removing noise from decomposed signal. Filtering is done for improved denoising performence. Here quantitative study of result evaluation has been done between Butterworth and Chebyshev filters based on minimum mean squared error (MSE), higher values of signal to interference ratio and peak signal to noise ratio in MATLAB environment using wavelet and signal processing toolbox. The results proved that the denoised signal using Butterworth filter has a better balance between smoothness and accuracy than the Chebvshev filter. The carrier signal extraction is the main problem in synchronous demodulation in design of demodulator based
on Software Defined Radio. When transmitter or receiver in motion, it is difficult for demodulator to generate
carrier signal same in frequency and phase as transmitter carrier signal due to Doppler shift and Doppler rate.
Here the digital implementation of Costas loop for QPSK demodulation in continuous mode is discussed with
carrier recovery using phase locked loop.

This paper describes the concept of adaptive noise cancelling. The noise cancellation
using the Recursive Least Squares (RLS) to remove the noise from an input signal. The RLS adaptive
filter uses the reference signal on the Input port and the desired signal on the desired port to
automatically match the filter response in the Noise Filter block. The filtered noise should be completely
subtracted from the "noisy signal” of the input Sine wave & noise input signal, and the "Error Signal"
should contain only the original signal. Finally, the functions of field programmable gate array based
system structure for adaptive noise canceller based on RLS algorithm are synthesized, simulated, and
implemented on Xilinx XC3s200 field programmable gate array using Xilinx ISE tool.
Echo Cancellation Algorithms using Adaptive Filters: A Comparative Studyidescitation
An adaptive filter is a filter that self-adjusts its transfer function according to an
optimization algorithm driven by an error signal. Adaptive filter finds its essence in
applications such as echo cancellation, noise cancellation, system identification and many
others. This paper briefly discusses LMS, NLMS and RLS adaptive filter algorithms for
echo cancellation. For the analysis, an acoustic echo canceller is built using LMS, NLMS
and RLS algorithms and the echo cancelled samples are studied using Spectrogram. The
analysis is further extended with its cross-correlation and ERLE (Echo Return Loss
Enhancement) results. Finally, this paper concludes with a better adaptive filter algorithm
for Echo cancellation. The implementation and analysis is done using MATLAB®,
SIMULINK® and SPECTROGRAM V5.0®.

Power line communication is a technology that transforms power line in to pathway for conveyance of
broadband data. It is cost less than other communication approach and for better bandwidth efficiency OFDM
based PLC system is used. In real PLC environment some electrical appliances will produce noise. To mitigate
this noise filter kernel design is used, so periodic impulsive noise and Gaussian noises are removed from PLC
communication system by using this filter kernel design. MATLAB is used for the simulation and the result
shows that filter kernel is simple and effective noise mitigation technique. Further in future, interference due to
obstacles also wants to be mitigated for the better data transmission without noise.

Frequency shift keying (fsk) mode of digital signal information transfer switches between two predetermined frequencies of the carrier wave, either by modulating one sine wave oscillator or by switching between two oscillators.The need for a receiver to decode an fsk signal along the transmitting medium from a digital source code within about 5 kilometer radius for security monitoring of environment informed this work. The design of a receiver circuit at a frequency of 500 kHzfor an input frequency shift keying (fsk) signal from a transmitter is presented. The receiver is to receive an RF signal, amplify it, filter it to remove unwanted signals, and recover the desired base band information. It consists of an amplifier, tuned circuitsand mixers which filters the base-band information. A comparator circuit is incorporated, to detect the digital signal received. The output from the comparators is the digital equivalent of the coded signals sent by the transmitter circuit, and transferred to a microcontroller circuit, to act as a coded signal representing information from the transmitting end. The bode-plot response of the receiver to the incoming signals using a FET tuned circuit, shows that only frequencies above 470kHz, and below 495kHz are allowed to pass through the network with a resonant frequency of 483.553 kHz and a gain of 27.734dB, while others are totally attenuated. The reliability of the designed receiver circuit was evaluated for a 1 year continuous operating period and was found to be 74.7%.Area of application of this work include electronic policing of a defined environment with good success
