1. LSC SOFTBALL
Angelo State and West Texas A&M remain unbeaten in Lone Star Conference play to top the standings.
Lone Star Conference action continues this week, along with a few midweek non-conference games.
LSC teams are playing a single round-robin schedule with a three-game series against each league opponent.
The overall LSC Champion will be the team(s) with the best winning percentage in regular-season conference
games, while the winner of the postseason championship will be recognized as LSC Tournament Champion
and receive the league’s automatic qualification into NCAA postseason. The single-elimination championship
featuring the top six teams will be played May 5-6, at the No. 1 seed.
LSC softball teams are 108-92 overall this season. In the NCAA South Central Region, the group is currently
19-22 combined versus Heartland Conference teams and 15-9 against the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
HITTER
Ashley Hardin, West Texas A&M University, JR, Outfielder, Flower Mound, Texas, Flower Mound Marcus
The Lone Star Conference Preseason Player of the Year continued to impress this past weekend as the No. 7
Lady Buffs opened up LSC play with three run-rule wins over Texas Woman’s in Canyon as WT moved to 17-2
(3-0 LSC) overall. The Flower Mound Marcus product hit .636 with three doubles and two home runs to drive
in 10 RBI for an incredible slugging percentage of 1.455 to go along with eight runs scored in her 11 at-bats
with 16 total bases in the three wins. Hardin had a monster game in Saturday afternoon’s first contest of a
doubleheader as the junior center fielder hit a three-run bomb in the first inning and a three-run shot in the
fourth inning to drive in 6 RBI and score four runs in a 16-1 decision.
PITCHER
Kilee Halbert, West Texas A&M University, JR, Pitcher, Dalhart, Texas, Dalhart
Halbert, the LSC Preseason Pitcher of the Week, continued her hot start to the 2017 campaign with two more
wins and a 0.70 ERA with 11 strikeouts in 10 innings as WT swept past Texas Woman’s to open up LSC action.
The Dalhart native allowed just eight hits and two runs (one earned) in her 10.0 innings of work with four
walks and 11 strikeouts with an opposing batting average of just .200 to a TWU team that was hitting over .300
entering the series. Halbert tossed a pair of complete game victories including a seven strikeout performance
in Friday night’s opener as the junior right hander allowed just one run on five hits with two walks on 102
pitches.
OTHER TOP PERFORMERS
Breezy McComas, Cameron University, led CU to a series sweep of UT Permian Basin this past weekend. In
the doubleheader that was on Saturday, she went 3-4 with three RBI in both games, scoring four runs total; she
went 1-3 with an RBI and a run scored in game one of the series. McComas hit her fourth homer of the season
in game two of the series and then her fifth in game three. She is now just three homers shy of tying the CU
career record for homers of 43. McComas also made her college debut in the circle in game three, giving up no
runs on just two hits in 2.1 innings pitched with one strikeout.
Avery Mullendore, Tarleton State University, had a career week at the plate as the senior from Haltom City
hit .571 in three games to give Mark Cumpian his first career Lone Star Conference series win after taking two
of three from Eastern New Mexico. Mullendore became the first Tarleton player since 2005 to record five hits
in a single game as she helped Tarleton set a new hits record with 21 base knocks in Friday’s game-two win.
For the week, Mullendore was 8-for-14 with five doubles, five RBIs, and eight runs scored. She boasted a .929
slugging percentage and a 1.000 fielding percentage at shortstop.
Randa Hatter, Texas A&M University-Kingsville, had a break out week at the plate as she batted .538 and led
the team with a 1.154 slugging percentage, .700 on-base percentage and five runs batted in. The true freshman
went yard twice in game one against Texas A&M International and drove in three runs in the 6-4 victory. In
the clubs home opener against Midwestern State, Hatter finished with a .556 batting average, .667 on-base
percentage and had a team-best two doubles. She also picked up a win in the circle this weekend, striking out
five batters in 7.1 innings pitched.
Courtney Barnhill, Angelo State University, carried the No. 21 Rambelles to a four-game sweep of Western
New Mexico. The freshman hit .533 with two doubles and three homes runs. She led ASU with 10 RBI and
scored five runs of her own. The Lubbock native finished with a slugging clip of 1.267 and a .588 on-base
percentage. Five of her eight hits went for extra bases and she drew two walks.
Mariangela Garcia, Western New Mexico, led the team with six hits and hit .429 tallying two doubles, two
RBI and three runs scored in starting all four games. She had a hit in three of the four games, including a perfect
4-4 game three in which she had two RBI and a double with two runs scored.
Kinsie Hebler, Texas A&M University-Commerce, got on base four times for the Lions with a single and three
walks. She also had a solo home run that started the scoring for the Lions in their second game against St.
Mary’s. Hebler crossed the plate twice and drove in three runs. She had an on base percentage of .625 and
slugged 1.000. Hebler leads the team in homers and is second in RBIs.
Susannah Chandler, Eastern New Mexico University, hit safely in all but one of ENMU’s five games last week.
She registered four hits in the series against Tarleton State, which included a walk-off RBI single in the opener.
Chandler also made a key defensive play in the victory over the TexAnns, tossing out a runner at the plate in the
top of the eighth inning.

Brandy Marlett, Angelo State University, went 2-0
over the weekend with 19 strikeouts as Angelo State
improved to 17-1 and a perfect 6-0 in conference
play. The junior threw 14.0 innings and only allowed
nine hits and four runs of which one was earned. She
held WNMU to a .170 batting average and threw two
complete games.
Bethany Hines, Cameron University, was masterful
in her two starts as she helped guide the Aggies to
a three game series sweep of UT Permian Basin. In
game one, She went all seven innings, giving up just
two runs on a homer in the second inning. Hines
retired 13 straight batters at one point before a two
out single in the top of the seventh ended the streak.
In the third game of the series, she combined with
Breezy McComas to pitch a team shutout, holding
the Falcons to just two hits in her 4.2 innings of work.
Hines totaled 13 strikeouts with no walks in her 11.2
innings of work, while holding UTPB to hitting just
.143 against her.
Kayleigh Williams, Tarleton State University, led
the TexAnns with a 1.40 ERA in her game-two win
over Eastern New Mexico Friday night. The junior
right-hander allowed one run on two hits while
striking out six.
Carlie Clark, Texas A&M University-Kingsville, went
1-0 in the circle and tossed a bullpen-low 1.54 ERA
and a high of 13 strikeouts in the week of sweeps for
the Javelinas. In game two against Midwestern State,
the senior had seven Ks for a new season team-high.
While pitching a total of 11.2 innings, Clark held the
opposing batters to a .227 hitting percentage, logged
one complete game and one save.
Domi Shone, Western New Mexico, did her best
to hold down the powerful Rambelle offense holding
a 4.12 ERA in 18.2 innings of work, which included
working in three games and two complete games.
She also added 11 strikeouts, with six coming in game
two of the series in which she allowed just three
runs. Shone came back in the second game of the
doubleheader and third game of the series to throw
4.2 more innings and allow just two earned runs.
Katie Dean, Texas A&M University-Commerce, tied
her career high with eight strikeouts against No. 3 St.
Mary’s. She held the Rattlers scoreless for six innings
before the game got away from the Lions. She leads
the team with 30 strikeouts and has five wins and
two saves on the year. She has held batters to a .259
batting average so far this season.
Kaylee Rogers, Eastern New Mexico University,
picked up her sixth win of the season, against Tarleton
State. The TexAnns struck for six runs over the first
two innings of the series opener, but Rogers blanked
them on six hits over the rest of the game. Rogers also
faced perennial South Central powerhouse, Lubbock
Christian.

No. 21 Angelo State softball improved to 17-1 on the

games ... The Rambelles have hit .353 as a team and
the pitching staff holds a 1.84 ERA ... Brandy Marlett
leads the LSC with 73 strikeouts while Kenedy Urbany
has only allowed eight runs on the season ... Courtney
Barnhill recorded eight hits this past weekend with
five going for extra bases ... She leads ASU with 23
hits and 18 RBI on the season ... ASU will host LCU this
Thursday in a doubleheader at Mayer Field.
Cameron
The Aggies came away with their first Lone Star
Conference series sweep, as they defeated UT
Permian Basin 3-2, 12-3, and 5-0. In game one,

Bethany Hines settled in after giving up a two run

the third to the seventh inning. Kaylyn Smith did her
job at the top of the lineup, tallying three hits while
three different Aggies had an RBI. CU struck for 12
runs in game two of the series, with Breezy McComas
and Callie Busby each hitting a homer and collecting
three RBI. McComas led the charge again in game
two, driving in three more runs to give her seven RBI
for the weekend. Hines led CU in the circle again,
striking out eight batters in 4.2 innings pitched before
giving way to McComas, who struck out a batter in
her college pitching debut.
Eastern New Mexico
The Eastern New Mexico softball team registered a
strong offensive week, with six players batting at least
.308. Cameron Conrad batted .375 and extended her
hit streak to eight consecutive games. Freshman
pitcher Kaylee Rogers earned her sixth win of the
season, as ENMU rallied from a four-run deficit to
win the series opener against Tarleton State. This
week, Eastern will visit New Mexico Highlands and
Midwestern State.

Tarleton State
Tarleton took two of three last weekend at Eastern
New Mexico and set a new school record for hits
(21) in a single game. Avery Mullendore became the
first TexAnn since Amy Braquet in 2005. The TexAnns
host St. Mary’s tonight for a doubleheader before
welcoming West Texas A&M into town this weekend
for the first time since sweeping the Lady Buffs in
2012.
Texas A&M-Commerce
The Lions dropped two games to No. 3 St. Mary’s
over the weekend. The Lions stole eight bases in two
games against the Rattlers and continue to lead the
conference in steals and average 3.4 steals per game.
The Lions also co-lead the conference in fielding
percentage. A&M-Commerce will host St. Edward’s
University in a doubleheader on Tuesday before
facing Cameron for three games in two days in their
first conference home series of the season.

The Pioneers went 0-3 at West Texas A&M.

West Texas A&M
The No. 7 Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M began the
defense of their Lone Star Conference title in style
this past weekend as they swept past Texas Woman’s
with three run-rule victories while outscoring the
Pioneers, 48-2. The Lady Buffs hit .532 as a team on
the weekend with 13 doubles, nine homeruns and 45
RBI to collect 83 total bases and an incredible 1.078
slugging percentage. The WT pitching staff registered
a 0.47 ERA as they allowed just two runs (one earned)
on 12 hits with four walks and 15 strikeouts with an
opposing batting average of .211. WT returns to Lone
Star Conference action this weekend as they travel to
Stephenville, Texas as they take on the TexAnns of
Tarleton State in a three-game LSC series beginning
on Friday night with first pitch set for 7 p.m. at the
TSU Softball Complex.
Western New Mexico
It was a tough match-up for the Lady Mustangs going
against No. 21 Angelo State, but following a rough
first game loss, WNMU came back strong in games
two and four getting to within two runs and four
runs. While Mariangela Garcia and Domi Shone had
strong weeks, Aryana Gutierrez tallied a .444 batting
average and Lacy Granger hit a home run with six
RBI. Garcia led the team with six hits and hit .429
tallying two doubles, two RBI and three runs scored
in starting all four games. She had a hit in three of
the four games, including a perfect 4-4 game three
in which she had two RBI and a double with two runs
scored. Shone did her best to hold down the powerful
