The Lone Star Conference weekly baseball release provides updates on conference teams and players. Texas A&M-Kingsville remains undefeated at 10-0 while other top teams include Angelo State at 12-2 and West Texas A&M and Cameron both at 14-3. Micah Kaaukai of Cameron University and Matt Shannon of Angelo State are named hitters and pitchers of the week respectively. Conference series begin this week though early games do not count toward standings.

1. LSC BASEBALL
Texas A&M-Kingsville remains unbeaten in non-conference action at 10-0.
Lone Star Conference series continue this week with the games not counting toward the league standings.
LSC teams are playing a 10-week schedule with a four-game series against every other team during weeks
8-14 determining the LSC Champion. Conference series scheduled weeks 5-7 will not count toward the league
standings. Each four-game series shall consist of a 9-inning game Friday, a 7x7 doubleheader Saturday and
9-inning contest Sunday.
LSC baseball teams are 80-22 overall this season. In the NCAA South Central Region, the teams are currently
24-5 combined versus Heartland Conference teams and 6-3 against the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
HITTER
Micah Kaaukai, Cameron University, JR, Short Stop, Hilo, Hawaii, Hilo HS
Kaaukai led CU to three wins against Texas A&M-International last week, recording nine hits, seven runs, and
nine RBI. In game one’s high scoring 23-13 win, he drove in five RBI on three hits and then in game two, he went
4-4 with four RBI and three runs scored. Kaaukai hit .750 for the three game series, with an on base percentage
of .800 and a slugging percentage of 1.333. Two of his nine hits were triples, and one was a homer. Kaaukai now
leads CU with a .553 batting average on the season.
PITCHER
Matt Shannon, Angelo State University, JR, Pitcher, Pleasanton, Pleasanton HS
Shannon had his best outing of the season as the Rams’ Friday night starter this weekend, going eight innings
while striking out a career-high 11 batters in a 4-2 win over Eastern New Mexico. The junior hurler gave up two
runs on just four hits during his time on the mound and walked only one in his second win of the year. The 11
strikeouts broke his previous high of 10 set last season against Colorado Mesa and is tied for the fifth most in
a single game in ASU history.
OTHER TOP PERFORMERS
Jonathan Soberanes, Angelo State University, had another stellar weekend at the plate against Eastern New
Mexico, hitting .467 against the Greyhounds and keeping his season batting average above .450 in the leadoff
spot. The Dallas native racked up seven hits on the weekend including a 4-for-4 game on Saturday that saw him
score three runs. Overall, he scored four runs and had two RBI, racking up a team second eight total bases and
an on-base percentage of .500 for the series.
Luis Amaro, West Texas A&M University, tied the school-record for hits in a game going a perfect 6 for 6 in
the finale against No. 15 Tarleton State Sunday as the Buffs won 13-4 to clinch the series, 3-1. Amaro tallied
seven hits in the series, with three doubles to lead the team, while hitting a triple. He slugged a team-high .867
and reached base at a .529 clip which also led the team. He scored four runs and drove in six. Amaro had 18 put
outs with one assist and no errors on the weekend. Amaro hit safely in the last two games for WT, both wins.
Blake Adams, Tarleton State University, led the team with three home runs, including two in Tarleton’s 9-4
win over West Texas A&M last weekend. Adams also led the team with six RBIs for the week.
Nathan Hickey, Tarleton State University, was spectacular for Tarleton as he pitched five innings of one-hit
ball against West Texas A&M in the series opener. Hickey allowed three runs - none of which were earned -
while holding the Buffs to an .063 batting average.
Justin McAllister, West Texas A&M University, came in relief in the third game against No. 15 Tarleton State
and shutout the Texan offense for the Buffs’ second win of the series. He fanned seven, while walking none in
6.1 innings, allowing four hits and two unearned runs for his first win of the season. McAllister came in with
the Buffs leading 6-2 lead with a runner on third and got out of the inning. The Buffs then scored four of the
final six runs for the win, 10-4 as Tarleton State hit just .160 against him.

Angelo State

The ENMU baseball team improved to 15-4 on the season, earning an upset win over fourth-ranked Angelo
State on Sunday. The Greyhounds take on Hardin-Simmons this coming weekend in Abilene.

The West Texas A&M baseball team improved to 12-2 on the year, winning a key series at No. 15 Tarleton State,
3-1...WT banged out 37 hits in the series and hit .285, while holding the Texans to .264...The Buffs scored 32
runs, while recording 12 doubles, two triples and two home runs as the team slugged .454 and reached base
at a .370 clip...WT committed just five errors on the weekend, while TSU had nine miscues...Offensively, junior
Luis Amaro tied the school-record for hits in a game going a perfect 6 for 6 from the plate in the finale with
five RBI as WT won 13-4 to clinch it...As a team, WT had three player hit over .400...On the mound, the Buffs
got standout performances from senior Justin McAllister who, in relief, pitched 6.1 innings in game three to
earn the 10-4 win as he stymied the Texan attack, allowing four hits, two unearned runs, walked none and
fanned seven as TSU hit just .160 against him...Junior Marshall Kasowski also earned a win in seven innings
in the opener, allowing six hits, three earned runs, walked three and fanned 12...Junior Ryan Larison went six
innings in the finale as the bats came to life once again, allowing five hits, three runs - two earned, walked
none and fanned six...WT had a 3.77 ERA for the weekend with just nine free passes and fanned 41 Texans
in 31 innings...WT is in the midst of three-straight series’ against conference teams, but the games are non-
conference games...The Buffs return home to host Texas A&M-Kingsville in a four-game series this week at
Wilder Park...WT is 12-2 on the year.
