LSC Tennis Weekly Release (02/23/17)
1. TENNIS PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
MEN’S
Vladimir Gnilozubov, Western New Mexico, JR, Kazakhstan, Astana, Kazakhstan
Gnilozubov went 1-0 in both doubles and singles play against Colorado Mesa. In doubles action playing at the
top spot with teammate Tristan Da Lio, they posted an 8-4 victory. In singles playing at No.3 he tallied a 6-2, 6-3
victory as the Mustangs rolled to the 9-0 victory.
WOMEN’S
Alicia Barbaroux, Tarleton State University, FR, Marseille, France, Lycee Paul Melizan
Barbaroux came through with two of her biggest wins yet at Tarleton. The freshman delivered a single and
a double victory for the TexAnns to lift Tarleton over Central Oklahoma, who entered the match ranked No.
7 in the Central region. Barbaroux’s first win came in doubles alongside Tori Simmons to give the TexAnns
their second doubles victory of the match. After her efforts helped Tarleton sweep doubles and the TexAnns
claimed the No. 6 match of singles, Central Oklahoma tried to steal the momentum with wins in the No. 1 and
2 matches but Barbaroux answered the call. She handled the No. 3 match 6-2, 6-1 in the highest-seeded singles
match of her career to clinch a match win for Tarleton.
OTHER TOP PERFORMERS
Nadia Justiniano, Western New Mexico, helped account for two of the three points the Lady Mustangs won
against Colorado Mesa. In doubles with teammate Emma Siboni the duo pulled out the 9-8 victory at No. 3. In
singles, she won a tough three-set match at No. 6 as she won the first set 7-5 and after dropping the second
6-7, she came back with the 10-7 third set win.
Erika Larrea, Texas A&M University-Kingsville, had an impressive week after going 1-1 in singles and 2-0
in doubles with partner Vivian Ortiz against No. 23 Trinity and Division I member UT-Rio Grande Valley. After
falling in a tight singles match against Trinity, Larrea has won the last three matches whenever she touches the
court. With partner Ortiz, the duo topped Caroline Kutach and Cheyenne Duncan to help the Hogs get the 5-4
victory against No. 23 Trinity. Verses UTRGV, the Ecuador native crushed Amanda Guardia 6-0, 6-4 in singles
after already getting the best of her in doubles with Ortiz when they defeated Guardia and Chloe Leclere 8-4.
