Angelo State remains the lone unbeaten team in LSC play. Nyka Wood of Tarleton State and Haley Freyman of Tarleton State are named hitters and pitchers of the week respectively for their strong performances against top 10 opponents. The document provides league standings, individual stats and accomplishments from the past week, and the upcoming schedule of games.

1. LSC SOFTBALL
Angelo State is the lone unbeaten team in Lone Star Conference play to top the standings. League action
continues this week, along with some non-conference contests.
LSC teams are playing a single round-robin schedule with a three-game series against each league opponent.
The overall LSC Champion will be the team(s) with the best winning percentage in regular-season conference
games, while the winner of the postseason championship will be recognized as LSC Tournament Champion
and receive the league’s automatic qualification into NCAA postseason. The single-elimination championship
featuring the top six teams will be played May 5-6, at the No. 1 seed.
LSC softball teams are 134-110 overall this season. In the NCAA South Central Region, the group is currently
25-24 combined versus Heartland Conference teams and 17-9 against the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
HITTER
Nyka Wood, Tarleton State University, JR, Catcher, North Richland Hills, Texas, Richland HS
Wood was phenomenal at the dish for the TexAnns as she led Tarleton to three wins in five games over national
top 10 opponents, including a series win over No. 6 West Texas A&M in Stephenville. She got her week rolling
with a walk-off, three-run homer with two outs against No. 3 St. Mary’s Tuesday night. Wood stepped into the
box against the Rattlers’ Staci Johns and deposited the first pitch she saw deep over the left field fence to walk
Tarleton off a winner. She followed that up with a defensive showcase behind the dish by catching a shutout
from Haley Freyman in a 1-0 walk-off win over No. 6 West Texas A&M before rounding out the series with the
Lady Buffs with a 3-for-4 day in Saturday’s 7-3 win to clinch the series and a 2-for-4 afternoon Sunday. For the
week, Wood hit .500 after going 8-for-16 with two doubles, a home run, two runs scored, and six RBIs. She
slugged .813, fielded 1.000, walked twice, and did not strike out a single time.
PITCHER
Haley Freyman, Tarleton State University, JR, RHP, North Richland Hills, Texas, Richland HS
Freyman was remarkable in the pitcher’s circle for the Texans last week as a complete game shutout of the
No. 6 Lady Buffs capped off the junior’s week. She went 3-0 with three complete games and a complete game
shutout with 22.0 innings pitched, over which she allowed only five earned runs and struck out 13 - all of which
came against two of the top 10 teams in the nation, No. 3 St. Mary’s and No. 6 West Texas A&M. On Friday,
Freyman was spectacular as she allowed just four base hits - three of which were singles - to the Lady Buffs,
who entered the game with the No. 3 ranked offense in the nation. She shutout the Lady Buffs and struck out
six, including back-to-back punch outs to leave the bases loaded in the fourth inning. She followed up with
another complete game win over West Texas A&M in a 7-3 victory to deliver Tarleton’s first series win against
the Lady Buffs since 2012.
OTHER TOP PERFORMERS
Taegan Kirk, Angelo State University, led the Belles in a doubleheader sweep of No. 22 Lubbock Christian.
The sophomore was a perfect 5-for-5 against LCU with three of her five hits going for extra bases. She hit two
doubles and a home run in five at-bats. The Lubbock native drove in five runs and scored twice. She finished
the series with a 1.000 on-base clip and a 2.000 slugging percentage.
Nicole Nordie, Texas Woman’s University, tied an LSC and TWU single-game record for hits with five in game
three of the series against Western New Mexico, a feat she also accomplished in 2015. Saturday’s performance
ties for first throughout all NCAA divisions this season. In TWU’s 4-0 series sweep against the Mustangs, Nordie
compiled 12 hits while batting .750 and notching a home run and a double. The senior tallied six RBI and was
successful on all four of her stolen base attempts. Nordie strung together a series of seven straight hits in
games three and four, including a perfect five-for-five in the third contest.
Yasmeen Gastelum, Western New Mexico, had a strong four games as she tallied six hits to post a .600
batting average, along with a run scored in starting all four games behind the plate. She had a .600 slugging
percentage and .600 on-base percentage. Gastelum had two multi-hit games going 3-4 in the near comeback
win of the third game of the series and then a 2-4 game to finish the series.
Cameron Conrad, Eastern New Mexico University, batted .533 over a week, which saw the Greyhounds win
four of their five games. She hit safely in every game to extend her hit streak to 13 consecutive contests. In
Saturday’s first game against Midwestern State, she batted 3-for-3 and drew a walk.
Hailey Dixon, Texas Woman’s University, held WNMU to a lone run in her two appearances throughout the
series with the Mustangs. The senior pitched in two games on Saturday and picked up a pair of wins. Dixon held
off WNMU in the seventh and eighth innings of game one before throwing a complete game shutout to finish
off the Mustangs.
Kaylee Rogers, Eastern New Mexico University, registered three of the Greyhounds four wins last week, with
all contests taking place on the road. On Saturday, she limited Midwestern State to just one hit and posted her
third shutout of the season. On Friday, she stranded 14 Mustang baserunners and limited them to just one hit
with the bases loaded in six chances. Rogers has posted an impressive 5-0 road record in LSC play this season
with a 2.85 earned run average over those games.

The Eastern New Mexico softball team posted a 4-1
record last week, with a doubleheader sweep at New
Mexico Highlands and Lone Star Conference series
win over Midwestern State. Freshman outfielder
Cameron Conrad led the lineup with a .53 batting
average over the road trip and extended her hit streak
to 13 straight contests. In the finale, Erikka Burke
pulled into a tie for the league lead with her eighth
homerun of the season. Kaylee Rogers continued to
pitch well for the Hounds and won all three of her
starts to improve to 5-0 on the road this season. This
week, Eastern will host Oklahoma Christian and LSC-
leader Angelo State.

Tarleton State
Tarleton put together one of its most exciting weeks
in recent history as the TexAnns took three out of
five games against national top-10 teams, including a
series win over No. 6 West Texas A&M last weekend.
The TexAnns will play their sixth and seventh
consecutive games against ranked opponents
Tuesday when they host No. 22 Lubbock Christian for
a doubleheader.

Texas Woman’s
TWU got back on the winning track with four straight
wins over Western New Mexico to bring their overall
record to 13-10.

For the week, WNMU came close in two of the four
games against Texas Woman’s, including a near
comeback erasing a 7-0 deficit to tie the game at
eight before falling in overtime. Outside of a strong
week from Yasmeen Gastelum, Carolyn Castillo hit
.500 and Lacy Granger hit .400 with her second home
run of the season. Valeria Luna drove in three runs.
Gastelum had a strong four games as she tallied six
hits to post a .600 batting average, along with a run
scored in starting all four games behind the plate.
She had a .600 slugging percentage and .600 on-base
