PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
HITTER
Adam Adkins, West Texas A&M University, JR, OF, Northglenn, Colo., Northglenn HS
Adkins had another outstanding week against top competition as he hit .467 in a series sweep of No. 10 Texas
A&M-Kingsville. Adkins had seven hits in 15 at bats and led the team with seven runs score, while hitting a
team-high four doubles, one triple and drove in six. He slugged a team-best .867 and reached base at a .529
clip, with one stolen base and had two put outs with no errors. He had a hit in each game and three games of
two hits against the Javelinas. He has hit safely in the last seven games and has driven in a run in each of the
last eight. Adkins leads the team with 11 doubles and three triples on the year.
PITCHER
Joshua Payne, West Texas A&M University, SR, RHP, Westhaven, Utah, Freemont HS
Payne pitched a gem of a game against No. 10 Texas A&M-Kingsville as he tossed a complete game shutout
allowing two hits in nine innings, while walking one and fanning a career-high 16 Javelinas in a 7-0 win on
Saturday. It was Payne’s first complete game shutout as a Buff and TAMUK hit just .069 against him. After
allowing two hits in the first three innings, Payne retired the next 12-straight and a walk in the eighth was the
only other base runner for the Javelinas the rest of game. Payne’s performance gave WT the second win of the
series en route to the sweep.
OTHER TOP PERFORMERS
Matt Waller, Angelo State University, was a run-producing machine at the plate this weekend as the Rams
swept Texas Permian Basin in four games. Waller had six hits in 12 at-bats in the series for a .500 batting average
and had a slugging percentage of 1.000 against the Falcons. In game two of the series on Saturday, Waller went
3-for-4 and was just a double shy of the cycle. He drove in six runs in that game alone, with two on his second
home run of the year, and had 10 RBI on the weekend.
Blake Adams, Tarleton State University, continued his impressive debut season at the dish for Tarleton as
the junior left fielder hit .412, scored 5 runs, had two home runs, four RBIs, and stole a base for the Texans in
four wins last week. Adams led the Texans to a win over St. Mary’s Wednesday and three wins in four games at
Cameron over the weekend. He slugged .824 and boasted an on-base percentage of .500.
Eli McLane, Tarleton State University, was superb in three appearances out of the Tarleton bullpen last week.
The sophomore right-hander helped Tarleton secure four wins in five games, including a series win at Cameron
over the weekend. McLane started his week with one inning of scoreless work to finish off Tarleton’s win over
St. Mary’s Wednesday. In the series opener with Cameron, McLane came out of the bullpen with two outs
and two on and got a groundball out to keep Tarleton on top 2-1. McLane sat the Aggies down in order in the
seventh to earn a save in Tarleton’s 2-1 win Friday. On Saturday afternoon, Tarleton was on top of Cameron
3-0 in the seventh when the Aggies threatened Tarleton’s lead once again with a walk and a hit by pitch with
two away, but McLane came on in relief and got the Texans out of the game with a ground ball back to himself
for the final out of the inning. He sat the Aggies down in order in the eighth with two strikeouts and a lineout
to first base. For the week, McLane threw 3.2 innings of scoreless relief with one save and helping secure one
Tarleton shutout of Cameron. He allowed two hits in three appearances and struck out three.
Joe Hauser, Angelo State University, continued his dominant start to the season with two appearances and a
save against UTPB. The senior pitched three innings without giving up an earned run and stuck out one batter.
