LSC Softball Weekly Release (02/07/17)

1. LSC SOFTBALL
The 2017 season is underway with 10 of the 11 Lone Star Conference teams in action. West Texas A&M is off to
a perfect start at 5-0, while Angelo State, Texas A&M-Commerce, and Texas Woman’s are 4-1.
A full schedule of non-conference games is on tap for this week.
LSC teams are playing a single round-robin schedule with a three-game series against each league opponent.
The overall LSC Champion will be the team(s) with the best winning percentage in regular-season conference
games, while the winner of the postseason championship will be recognized as LSC Tournament Champion
and receive the league’s automatic qualification into NCAA postseason. The single-elimination championship
featuring the top six teams will be played May 5-6, at the No. 1 seed.
LSC softball teams are 24-28 overall this season. In the NCAA South Central Region, the group is currently
6-9 combined versus Heartland Conference teams and 2-4 against the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
HITTER
Mariah Jameyson, Texas A&M University-Commerce, JR, C, Seattle, Wash., Hale HS
Jameyson is the league leader in RBIs after the first week of play, helping the Lions to a 4-1 record at the SAU
Invitational. She started and caught the entire weekend and had at least one RBI in each game with a total
of 12. She went 3-for-4 with a homer, 4 RBIs, and 3 runs scored versus Southern Arkansas. For the week,
Jameyson hit .471 with eight hits, seven runs and two home runs. She is tied for second in the league in extra
base hits and slugging percentage amongst regulars.
PITCHER
Brandy Marlett, Angelo State University, JR, P, Henderson, Nev., Rancho HS
Marlett shined for the Rambelles pitching a no-hitter and throwing a complete game two-hitter over No. 3
Armstrong State. The junior threw her third career no-hitter to open her season against Florida Tech. She
followed it up by limiting No. 3 Armstrong State to just two hits and one run in a 4-1 victory. Marlett limited
opponents to a .105 average and struck out 21 in 17.0 innings pitched.
OTHER TOP PERFORMERS
Callie Busby, Cameron University, in her first action as an Aggie, she led CU with a .533 average during the
Southeastern Regional Invitational. She totaled eight hits with two doubles and one triple while driving in four
runs. Busby caught all six games of the invite and had no errors with 20 putouts and two assists. She also stole
a base.
Bailey Wallace, Angelo State University, led the Rambelles to a 4-1 record at the Florida Tech Marriott First
Pitch Classic including a win over No. 3 Armstrong State. The sophomore hit .500 (10-for-20) with one double
and her first career home run. Wallace hit a game winning single to secure a 3-2 comeback win over Palm Beach
Atlantic. She scored four runs and drove in three RBIs. The Rockwall native slugged .700 for the weekend and
had a .500 on-base percentage.
Tori Bice, Texas Woman’s University, earned Desert Stinger All-Tournament honors following her
performances in the DH position and leading TWU to a 4-1 record. The senior racked up nine hits and six RBI,
highlighted by a grand slam against Sonoma State. Bice was earned a win in the circle for the Pioneers versus
SSU by striking out four batters.
Carli Woolsey, Midwestern State University, led Midwestern State during opening weekend with a .474
batting average and 1.105 slugging percentage with four home runs and nine RBI in her first outing as a
Mustang. The Central Oklahoma transfer belted out homers in four of MSU’s six games including a grand slam
in a run-rule victory over Texas A&M International and a three-run shot against No. 12 St. Mary’s. The Enid,
Okla. native totaled three multiple-hit outings on the weekend.
Mariangela Garcia, Western New Mexico, led the offense with seven hits, tallying a .467 batting average
and collecting hits in four of the five games to start the season at the Desert Stinger. She tallied a .529 on-base
percentage, posted a double, two RBI, two runs scored and two walks. Garcia opened the season with three-
straight two-hit games. Against No. 2 Humboldt State she went a perfect 2-2 with a walk.
Nyka Wood, Tarleton State University, got her junior season off to hot start as the catcher from North Richland
Hills hit .462 at the Southern Arkansas Invitational to lead Tarleton to a 3-2 start to the season. Wood went
6-for-13 in five games and was hit by two pitches. She scored three runs, had three extra base hits including
one home run and seven RBIs. Wood racked up 11 total bases on a team high .846 slugging percentage. Wood
also showcased some speed on the bases by going 1-for-1 in stolen base attempts. She made 14 putouts and
had one assist for a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage behind the plate.
Kylee Moore, West Texas A&M University, had a big opening weekend for the No. 4 Lady Buffs as the
sophomore hit .444 with a double and two homeruns to drive in six RBI as WT went 5-0 at the Desert Stinger
Invite in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Van native hit a double and two bombs to drive in six RBI including a solo
homerun in the top of the sixth on Sunday afternoon to give WT a 5-4 win over Sioux Falls.
Susannah Chandler, Eastern New Mexico University, hit safely in four of the Greyhounds first five games of
the season. Against Southeastern Oklahoma, she registered a three-for-four performance with a double, two
homers and two runs batted in. In 17 at bats, she only struck out twice.
Alyssa Ringhausen, Tarleton State University, provided Tarleton with some quality relief last weekend as the
senior pitcher boasted a 0.00 ERA in 4.1 innings of relief, earning a win for the TexAnns. She allowed two hits

and one unearned run while striking out five at the
Southern Arkansas Invitational.
Shayne Starkey, West Texas A&M University,
registered a big weekend at the plate and in the circle
for the Lady Buffs as the sophomore tossed a four-hit
shutout in the season opener and picked up a save
against Augustana to move to 1-0 on the season with
a 0.88 ERA. The Denton native scattered four hits on
Friday afternoon in the Season Opener as the Lady
Buffs rolled past Stanislaus State, 8-0. Starkey picked
up her first career save on Saturday afternoon against
Augie as she allowed just one earned run in the final
three innings of play.
Kaylee Rogers, Eastern New Mexico University,
opened the season for ENMU with tough games
against Central Oklahoma, St. Mary’s and St.
Edwards. Over the three games, she allowed just six
earned runs, which included one in a complete-game
against STMU. She fanned seven batters over her first
13 innings of the season.

Angelo State
The Rambelles went 4-1 to open the season at the
Florida Tech Marriott First Pitch Classic. The pitching
staff went 4-1 with a 2.06 ERA highlighted by
Brandy Marlett throwing her third career no-hitter
and followed it up with a two-hit win over No. 3
Armstrong State. Bailey Wallace led the ASU offense
with a .500 average. The Rambelles hit .333 as a team
with eight doubles and eight home runs. ASU will
host the George McCorkle Challenge this weekend at
Mayer Field.
Cameron
The Aggie softball team went 3-3 in their opening
weekend, splitting each of the three days they played
at the Southeastern Regional Invitational. CU beat
St. Mary’s, St. Edward’s, and Emporia State, while
falling to Pittsburg State, Texas A&M-International,
and St. Mary’s. Callie Busby led CU with a .533 batting
average, while Paige Daino had two homers during
the six game invite. On the mound, Bethany Hines
went 2-2 with a 3.59 ERA and 16 strikeouts.
Eastern New Mexico
The Eastern New Mexico softball team opened play
last weekend at the Southeastern Oklahoma Regional
Tournament. Over the four games, ENMU had four
batters hit at least .308, with Samantha Brockman
leading the pack at .417. Susannah Chandler
registered the first multi-homer game of the year with
two against Southeastern Oklahoma, with a double
in the same game. The young pitching staff also
performance well, with a 4.42 earned-run average
against strong competition. This week, the Hounds
will play Colorado Christian, prior to competing in the
Grand Prairie Tournament.
Midwestern State
1-5 last week.
Tarleton State
Tarleton went 3-2 at the Southern Arkansas
Invitational and will head to Grand Prairie next
weekend for six games.
Texas A&M-Commerce
The Lions went 4-1 in the opening weekend at the
SAU Invitational. A&M-Commerce took two games
each over Newman and Washburn before losing a
tough shootout to No. 5 Southern Arkansas, 15-14.
The Lions scored more runs than any LSC team in the
first week of action, crossing the plate 42 times. They

lead the league. They now go to the NFCA Leadoff
Classic in Clearwater, Fla. for five games - Hillsdale

Texas Woman’s
TWU opened 2017 by going 4-1 at The Desert Stinger
in Las Vegas to finish ranked seventh amongst the
24 teams in the tournament. The Pioneers dropped
their first game to Augustana before rattling off
four straight wins against Sioux Falls, Sonoma State,
Concordia and New Mexico Highlands.

West Texas A&M
The No. 4 Lady Buffs started off the season strong
this past weekend as they picked up wins over
Stanislaus State, No. 18 Cal Baptist, New Mexico
Highlands, Augustana and Sioux Falls during the 8th
Annual Desert Stinger Invite in Las Vegas, Nevada.
WT moved to a perfect 15-0 all-time at the Desert
Stinger Invite. The Lady Buffs hit .379 as a team with
five doubles and eight homeruns to drive in 34 RBI for
a slugging percentage of .586. The Lady Buffs open
up their home schedule this weekend as they host
the WT Invitational with matchups scheduled against
Missouri Southern, Chadron State, Washburn (twice),
Fort Hays State and Fort Lewis.
Western New Mexico
It was a tough start to the season for the WNMU
softball team as they played three straight opponents
either ranked or receiving votes in the national
poll. The Lady Mustangs came close against Hawaii-
Hilo, falling just short, 6-4. Outside of a strong
offensive performance by Mariangela Garcia, Ariana
Maldonado hit .429 with two doubles and two RBI,
while Lacy Granger drove in four and hit .333. Garcia
led the offense with seven hits, tallying a .467 batting
average and collecting hits in four of the five games
to start the season at the Desert Stinger. She tallied
a .529 on-base percentage, posted a double, two RBI,
two runs scored and two walks. Garcia opened the
season with three-straight two-hit games. Against
No. 2 Humboldt State she went a perfect 2-2 with a
