LSC SOFTBALL
The 2016 season is underway with seven of the nine Lone Star Conference teams in action. Angelo State and
West Texas A&M remain unbeaten this season with a full schedule of non-conference games set for this week.
LSC teams are playing a single round-robin schedule with a four games against each league opponent. The
four-game series shall consist of a doubleheader Friday and a doubleheader Saturday.
The overall LSC Champion will be the team(s) with the best winning percentage in regular-season conference
games, while the winner of the postseason championship will be recognized as LSC Tournament Champion and
receive the league’s automatic qualification into NCAA postseason. The single-elimination championship will
be played April 29-30, at the No. 1 seed.
LSC softball teams are 35-17 overall this season. In the NCAA South Central Region, the group is currently
15-4 combined versus Heartland Conference teams and 7-2 against the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
HITTER
Katelyn Vinson, Midwestern State University, SR, 3B, Southlake, Texas, Carroll Senior HS
Vinson put together an impressive performance at the Gulf Coast Invitational last weekend in Gulf Shores,
Ala., making her return to the field after missing the previous three contests due to injury. Vinson batted .813
in five games, recording 13 hits in 16 at bats. The Southlake native finished with an .857 on base percentage
and a .813 slugging percentage while adding a team-best six runs and five walks. Vinson went 3-for-4 against
the nation’s top-ranked team in North Georgia, also contributing two runs and an RBI. She also batted 4-for-4
against Rockhurst in her first appearance back while batting 3-for-3 against North Alabama, a squad receiving
votes in the NFCA preseason poll. Vinson currently leads the LSC with a .667 batting average and ranks second
with 16 hits.
PITCHER
Haley Freyman, Tarleton State University, SO, RHP, N. Richland Hills, Texas, Richland HS
Freyman is off to a dominant start in the circle for Tarleton. The sophomore right-hander pitched in six of
Tarleton’s first seven games and has five wins on her record. She currently leads the LSC with 23 strikeouts.
Freyman has pitched against all three teams who finished last season with over 30 wins – East Central, Lubbock
Christian, and No. 12 St. Mary’s – and boasts an ERA of 0.00 in 17.2 innings of work with a record of 3-0, 11
strikeouts, and a .164 opponent batting average against those teams. Freyman currently leads the Lone Star
Conference with 23 strikeouts, including nine looking, and five wins. With an ERA of 0.41 in 34.0 innings of
work this season, Freyman’s ERA is the best in the league among pitchers who threw more than 15.0 innings
last week.
OTHER TOP PERFORMERS
	 Bailey Wallace, Angelo State University, led the Rambelles to a perfect 6-0 record with a team high .579
average. She was 11-for-18 and scored eight runs. The freshman tied for the team lead with seven RBIs and
recorded one double. She drew two walks and stole two bases in her first collegiate games.
	 Melody Mayse, Tarleton State University, has gotten off to the best start to a season in her four-year career,
as the No. 10 Tarleton TexAnns are 6-1 to begin the year. In the first seven games, which includes wins over
three 30-win teams from last year – East Central, Lubbock Christian, and St. Mary’s – Mayse is hitting .500 in
a team-best 26 at bats. She is leading the team with 13 hits, which includes a double and LSC-leading three
triples, to amass 20 total bases and a .769 slugging percentage. The leadoff hitter for the TexAnns has scored 10
runs this season to go along with a .517 on-base percentage and a perfect 4-of-4 stolen base attempts. Mayse
also has 11 putouts in centerfield with a 1.000 fielding percentage to start the season.
	 Ashley Hardin, West Texas A&M University, had a monster opening weekend for the No. 22 Lady Buffs as
the sophomore led WT to a 5-0 mark at the Dixie State Invitational with wins over Fort Lewis (twice), Colorado
State-Pueblo, No. 13 Humboldt State and the host No. 2 Red Storm. The Flower Mound native hit .467 with
four homeruns to drive in nine RBI for an incredible slugging percentage of 1.267. Hardin ended the weekend
in style as the sophomore hit two bombs and drove in five runs in a 13-2 rout of Fort Lewis on Sunday morning.
	 Sonora Zukerman , Cameron University, provided the Aggies help at the plate and in the circle after batting
.440 and tossing two complete game wins last week. In eight games, Zukerman had 11 hits in 25 at-bats with
three doubles, and two homers; she would also score seven RBI and draw three walks. At the plate she had a
.800 slugging percentage, and a .512 batting percentage. While starting, she tossed a three-hit shut out against
Texas-Permian Basin with four strike outs, and had her second complete game going five innings against Rogers
State; she also tossed three innings against Delta State without giving up an earned run.
	 Tealey Farquhar, Texas Woman’s University, has carried the Pioneers’ offense the first two weeks of the
season from the lead-off spot. She has a .351 batting average with a team-best 8 RBI and 9 runs. Farquhar is
also perfect 5-for-5 in stolen bases and has a .378 slugging percentage and .400 on base percentage. She has
multiple hits in four games this season.
	 Cherie Jackson, Texas A&M University-Commerce, had the weekend of her career to open the 2016 season
and lead the Lions to a 3-1 start. Jackson, who entered play with two career home runs, clubbed three dingers
on the first day of the season to lead the Lions to wins over previously unbeaten Lubbock Christian and St.
Edwards. In the a span of 24 hours, Jackson had gone 4-for-5 with seven RBI, three home runs and a double.
She also accounted for four runs score. She followed up with three more RBI and a 1-for-3 day as the Lions split

on the final day of the tournament with a win over Colorado School of Mines and a loss to host St. Mary’s. For
the week she batted .625, slugged an incredible 1.875 and accounted for 15 total bases. Her .625 average is the
second best in the LSC, while her 1.875 slugging percentage tops her at the top of the Lone Star Conference.
	 Brittany Woolridge, Texas A&M University-Commerce, opened her Lion career with a two innings of hitless
softball in the Lions 11-5 win over Lubbock Christian to start the season. She followed with a five-hit complete
game shutout of St. Edward’s to lead the Lions to a 7-1 win. Woolridge picked up her first collegiate win while
fanning seven. On the weekend she threw 13.2 innings with a 2.56 ERA, while striking out 10 batters.
	 Kilee Halbert, West Texas A&M University, had a breakout opening weekend as the No. 22 Lady Buffs
moved to 5-0 with wins over Fort Lewis (twice), CSU-Pueblo, No. 2 Dixie State and No. 13 Humboldt State. The
sophomore right hander went 2-0 in the circle with a 1.17 ERA with just one walk and nine strikeouts in 10
innings of work to allow an opponent batting average of .136. The Dalhart native tossed a one-hitter against
Fort Lewis in the season opener followed by a win over perennial power No. 13 Humboldt State on Saturday
night in St. George, Utah.
	 Tori Bice, Texas Woman’s University, has been part of a no-hitter and another near no-hitter this past
weekend at SAU Softball Invitational. She tossed six hitless innings in a combined no-hitter against Newman
and then pitched 4.2 hitless innings in a 9-1 run-rule win against Southwest Baptist. Bice tossed a total of 10.2
hitless innings and was one strike away from back-to-back no hitters. In the first two weeks of the season, she
appeared in eight of the 11 games and leads the team in wins (3), innings pitched (29.0) and strikeouts (18).

Eastern New Mexico	
Eastern New Mexico will open its 20th season of play on Tuesday against Oklahoma Panhandle with head coach
Katie Welborn making her debut. The last ENMU coach to win their opener was Lauren Sigwing in 2010, with a
15-6 victory at New Mexico Highlands. The last coach to begin their ENMU career by opening the season with
a win at home was Ron Landschoot with a 13-4 win over NMHU in 2003.
Midwestern State	
Midwestern State wrapped up its second week of competition with a six-game slate at the Gulf Coast
Invitational last weekend in Gulf Shores, Ala. The Mustangs went 3-3 on the weekend to move to 5-6 on
the season. MSU picked up wins over Southern Nazarene, Lee and McKendree while dropping contests to
Rockhurst, North Alabama and No. 1 North Georgia. Senior third baseman Katelyn Vinson batted .813 (13-16)
in five appearances, recording an .813 slugging percentage and .857 on base percentage while leading the
team with six runs and five walks. Midwestern continues tournament play this weekend at the West Texas A&M
Invitational in Canyon.
Tarleton State	
Tarleton Softball opened the season ranked No. 10 in the nation by the NFCA and lived up to the billing with six
wins in its first seven games, including an 8-1 victory over No. 12 St. Mary’s in San Antonio Saturday afternoon.
The TexAnns will travel to Canyon for the WT Invitational this weekend.
Texas A&M-Commerce	
Cherie Jackson knocked three home runs in a two-game span to open the season for the Lions, who went 3-1
at the St. Mary’s DII College Softball Classic.
Texas A&M-Kingsville	
Opens season Tuesday versus Texas A&M International.
Texas Woman’s	
TWU is 5-6 on the season through the first two weeks. The Pioneers were 1-4 at Florida Tech/Marriott Kickoff
Classic during the first week but bounced back with a 4-2 record at SAU Softball Invitational this past weekend.
Junior Logan Polasek leads the team with a .393 batting average while senior Tealey Farquhar has a team-
best nine runs and eight RBI. Junior Morgan Harrison is the leader in steals with nine. Junior Tori Bice and
freshman Nicole Gandy pitched TWU’s second combined no-hitter against Newman on Friday, Feb. 5. Bice
tossed six innings while Gandy pitched the seventh. Bice also came one strike short of another no-hitter against
Southwest Baptist on Saturday, Feb. 6. In two days, she pitched 10.2 hitless innings.
West Texas A&M	
The No. 22 Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M had a monster opening weekend in St. George, Utah as they went
a perfect 5-0 at the Dixie State Invitational with wins over Fort Lewis (twice), Colorado State-Pueblo, No. 13
Humboldt State and the host No. 2 Red Storm. The Lady Buffs hit .339 as a team with five doubles, one triple
and 10 homeruns to drive in 37 runs for a team slugging percentage of .630. In the circle, WT registered a 2.27
ERA with four complete games and a shutout. The Lady Buffs open up their home schedule this weekend as
they host the WT Invitational on Friday, Saturday and Sunday inside of the Buffalo Sports Complex at Schaeffer
Park. WT will take on Fort Lewis (4 p.m.) and Chadron State (2:30 p.m.) on Friday.

Integrity | Tradition | Academic Excellence | LONE STAR CONFERENCE | Community | Respect | Commitment LSC SOFTBALL The 2016 season is underway with seven of the nine Lone Star Conference teams in action. Angelo State and West Texas A&M remain unbeaten this season with a full schedule of non-conference games set for this week. LSC teams are playing a single round-robin schedule with a four games against each league opponent. The four-game series shall consist of a doubleheader Friday and a doubleheader Saturday. The overall LSC Champion will be the team(s) with the best winning percentage in regular-season conference games, while the winner of the postseason championship will be recognized as LSC Tournament Champion and receive the league’s automatic qualification into NCAA postseason. The single-elimination championship will be played April 29-30, at the No. 1 seed. LSC softball teams are 35-17 overall this season. In the NCAA South Central Region, the group is currently 15-4 combined versus Heartland Conference teams and 7-2 against the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. PLAYERS OF THE WEEK HITTER Katelyn Vinson, Midwestern State University, SR, 3B, Southlake, Texas, Carroll Senior HS Vinson put together an impressive performance at the Gulf Coast Invitational last weekend in Gulf Shores, Ala., making her return to the field after missing the previous three contests due to injury. Vinson batted .813 in five games, recording 13 hits in 16 at bats. The Southlake native finished with an .857 on base percentage and a .813 slugging percentage while adding a team-best six runs and five walks. Vinson went 3-for-4 against the nation’s top-ranked team in North Georgia, also contributing two runs and an RBI. She also batted 4-for-4 against Rockhurst in her first appearance back while batting 3-for-3 against North Alabama, a squad receiving votes in the NFCA preseason poll. Vinson currently leads the LSC with a .667 batting average and ranks second with 16 hits. PITCHER Haley Freyman, Tarleton State University, SO, RHP, N. Richland Hills, Texas, Richland HS Freyman is off to a dominant start in the circle for Tarleton. The sophomore right-hander pitched in six of Tarleton’s first seven games and has five wins on her record. She currently leads the LSC with 23 strikeouts. Freyman has pitched against all three teams who finished last season with over 30 wins – East Central, Lubbock Christian, and No. 12 St. Mary’s – and boasts an ERA of 0.00 in 17.2 innings of work with a record of 3-0, 11 strikeouts, and a .164 opponent batting average against those teams. Freyman currently leads the Lone Star Conference with 23 strikeouts, including nine looking, and five wins. With an ERA of 0.41 in 34.0 innings of work this season, Freyman’s ERA is the best in the league among pitchers who threw more than 15.0 innings last week. OTHER TOP PERFORMERS Bailey Wallace, Angelo State University, led the Rambelles to a perfect 6-0 record with a team high .579 average. She was 11-for-18 and scored eight runs. The freshman tied for the team lead with seven RBIs and recorded one double. She drew two walks and stole two bases in her first collegiate games. Melody Mayse, Tarleton State University, has gotten off to the best start to a season in her four-year career, as the No. 10 Tarleton TexAnns are 6-1 to begin the year. In the first seven games, which includes wins over three 30-win teams from last year – East Central, Lubbock Christian, and St. Mary’s – Mayse is hitting .500 in a team-best 26 at bats. She is leading the team with 13 hits, which includes a double and LSC-leading three triples, to amass 20 total bases and a .769 slugging percentage. The leadoff hitter for the TexAnns has scored 10 runs this season to go along with a .517 on-base percentage and a perfect 4-of-4 stolen base attempts. Mayse also has 11 putouts in centerfield with a 1.000 fielding percentage to start the season. Ashley Hardin, West Texas A&M University, had a monster opening weekend for the No. 22 Lady Buffs as the sophomore led WT to a 5-0 mark at the Dixie State Invitational with wins over Fort Lewis (twice), Colorado State-Pueblo, No. 13 Humboldt State and the host No. 2 Red Storm. The Flower Mound native hit .467 with four homeruns to drive in nine RBI for an incredible slugging percentage of 1.267. Hardin ended the weekend in style as the sophomore hit two bombs and drove in five runs in a 13-2 rout of Fort Lewis on Sunday morning. Sonora Zukerman , Cameron University, provided the Aggies help at the plate and in the circle after batting .440 and tossing two complete game wins last week. In eight games, Zukerman had 11 hits in 25 at-bats with three doubles, and two homers; she would also score seven RBI and draw three walks. At the plate she had a .800 slugging percentage, and a .512 batting percentage. While starting, she tossed a three-hit shut out against Texas-Permian Basin with four strike outs, and had her second complete game going five innings against Rogers State; she also tossed three innings against Delta State without giving up an earned run. Tealey Farquhar, Texas Woman’s University, has carried the Pioneers’ offense the first two weeks of the season from the lead-off spot. She has a .351 batting average with a team-best 8 RBI and 9 runs. Farquhar is also perfect 5-for-5 in stolen bases and has a .378 slugging percentage and .400 on base percentage. She has multiple hits in four games this season. Cherie Jackson, Texas A&M University-Commerce, had the weekend of her career to open the 2016 season and lead the Lions to a 3-1 start. Jackson, who entered play with two career home runs, clubbed three dingers on the first day of the season to lead the Lions to wins over previously unbeaten Lubbock Christian and St. Edwards. In the a span of 24 hours, Jackson had gone 4-for-5 with seven RBI, three home runs and a double. She also accounted for four runs score. For the week she batted .625, slugged an incredible 1.875 and accounted for 15 total bases. Her .625 average is the second best in the LSC, while her 1.875 slugging percentage tops her at the top of the Lone Star Conference. Brittany Woolridge, Texas A&M University-Commerce, opened her Lion career with a two innings of hitless softball in the Lions 11-5 win over Lubbock Christian to start the season. She followed with a five-hit complete game shutout of St. Edward’s to lead the Lions to a 7-1 win. Woolridge picked up her first collegiate win while fanning seven. On the weekend she threw 13.2 innings with a 2.56 ERA, while striking out 10 batters. Kilee Halbert, West Texas A&M University, had a breakout opening weekend as the No. 22 Lady Buffs moved to 5-0 with wins over Fort Lewis (twice), CSU-Pueblo, No. 2 Dixie State and No. 13 Humboldt State. The sophomore right hander went 2-0 in the circle with a 1.17 ERA with just one walk and nine strikeouts in 10 innings of work to allow an opponent batting average of .136. The Dalhart native tossed a one-hitter against Fort Lewis in the season opener followed by a win over perennial power No. 13 Humboldt State on Saturday night in St. George, Utah. Tori Bice, Texas Woman’s University, has been part of a no-hitter and another near no-hitter this past weekend at SAU Softball Invitational. She tossed six hitless innings in a combined no-hitter against Newman and then pitched 4.2 hitless innings in a 9-1 run-rule win against Southwest Baptist. Bice tossed a total of 10.2 hitless innings and was one strike away from back-to-back no hitters. In the first two weeks of the season, she appeared in eight of the 11 games and leads the team in wins (3), innings pitched (29.0) and strikeouts (18). Eastern New Mexico Eastern New Mexico will open its 20th season of play on Tuesday against Oklahoma Panhandle with head coach Katie Welborn making her debut. The last ENMU coach to win their opener was Lauren Sigwing in 2010, with a 15-6 victory at New Mexico Highlands. The last coach to begin their ENMU career by opening the season with a win at home was Ron Landschoot with a 13-4 win over NMHU in 2003. Midwestern State Midwestern State wrapped up its second week of competition with a six-game slate at the Gulf Coast Invitational last weekend in Gulf Shores, Ala. The Mustangs went 3-3 on the weekend to move to 5-6 on the season. MSU picked up wins over Southern Nazarene, Lee and McKendree while dropping contests to Rockhurst, North Alabama and No. 1 North Georgia. Senior third baseman Katelyn Vinson batted .813 (13-16) in five appearances, recording an .813 slugging percentage and .857 on base percentage while leading the team with six runs and five walks. Midwestern continues tournament play this weekend at the West Texas A&M Invitational in Canyon. Tarleton State Tarleton Softball opened the season ranked No. 10 in the nation by the NFCA and lived up to the billing with six wins in its first seven games, including an 8-1 victory over No. 12 St. Mary’s in San Antonio Saturday afternoon. The TexAnns will travel to Canyon for the WT Invitational this weekend. Texas A&M-Commerce Cherie Jackson knocked three home runs in a two-game span to open the season for the Lions, who went 3-1 at the St. Mary’s DII College Softball Classic. Texas A&M-Kingsville Opens season Tuesday versus Texas A&M International. Texas Woman’s TWU is 5-6 on the season through the first two weeks. The Pioneers were 1-4 at Florida Tech/Marriott Kickoff Classic during the first week but bounced back with a 4-2 record at SAU Softball Invitational this past weekend. Junior Logan Polasek leads the team with a .393 batting average while senior Tealey Farquhar has a team- best nine runs and eight RBI. Junior Morgan Harrison is the leader in steals with nine. Junior Tori Bice and freshman Nicole Gandy pitched TWU’s second combined no-hitter against Newman on Friday, Feb. 5. Bice tossed six innings while Gandy pitched the seventh. Bice also came one strike short of another no-hitter against Southwest Baptist on Saturday, Feb. 6. In two days, she pitched 10.2 hitless innings. West Texas A&M The No. 22 Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M had a monster opening weekend in St. George, Utah as they went a perfect 5-0 at the Dixie State Invitational with wins over Fort Lewis (twice), Colorado State-Pueblo, No. 13 Humboldt State and the host No. 2 Red Storm. The Lady Buffs hit .339 as a team with five doubles, one triple and 10 homeruns to drive in 37 runs for a team slugging percentage of .630. In the circle, WT registered a 2.27 ERA with four complete games and a shutout. The Lady Buffs open up their home schedule this weekend as they host the WT Invitational on Friday, Saturday and Sunday inside of the Buffalo Sports Complex at Schaeffer Park.
