Angelo State has clinched a share of the Lone Star Conference softball championship and will host the conference tournament as the No. 1 seed. The top six teams will compete in the single-elimination tournament on May 5-6, with West Texas A&M, Cameron, and Texas Woman's having already clinched spots and Tarleton State, Texas A&M-Commerce, and Texas A&M-Kingsville still vying for the final two spots. Kenedy Urbany of Angelo State and Brandy Marlett of Angelo State were named Players of the Week for their performances in helping Angelo State clinch the top seed.
1. LSC SOFTBALL
Angelo State has clinched a share of the Lone Star Conference Championship and will be the top seed and host
of the tournament. The Rambelles are 24-3 in LSC play and 49-4 overall.
The rest of the six-team field and seeding will be determined this week with West Texas A&M, Cameron, and
Texas Woman’s having clinched spots, while Tarleton State, Texas A&M-Commerce, and Texas A&M-Kingsville
are vying for the two remaining spots.
LSC teams are playing a single round-robin schedule with a three-game series against each league opponent.
The overall LSC Champion will be the team(s) with the best winning percentage in regular-season conference
games, while the winner of the postseason championship will be recognized as LSC Tournament Champion
and receive the league’s automatic qualification into NCAA postseason. The single-elimination championship
featuring the top six teams will be played May 5-6, at the No. 1 seed.
LSC softball teams are 283-248 overall this season. In the NCAA South Central Region, the group is currently
62-42 combined versus Heartland Conference teams and 17-9 against the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
HITTER
Kenedy Urbany, Angelo State University, SR, P/DP, Helotes, Texas, O’Connor
Urbany led the Rambelles at the plate on their way to clinching a share of the LSC Championship. She hit .467
with seven hits, one double and two home runs. She slugged .933 over a five-game span and drove in seven
RBI. She scored four times and drew four walks in a DH sweep of St. Edward’s and a three-game sweep of Texas
A&M-Commerce. She was also 1-0 in the circle striking out a career-high 10 batters.
PITCHER
Brandy Marlett, Angelo State University, JR, Pitcher, Henderson, Nevada, Rancho
Marlett had one of her best weeks in the circle helping ASU clinch a share of the LSC Championship. The
junior went 3-0 with three wins and three complete games. She finished with a 1.00 ERA while striking out 37
including 12 and 17 against Texas A&M-Commerce. The 17 strikeouts tied her career best. She only gave up
three runs in three appearances and held teams to a .176 batting average.
OTHER TOP PERFORMERS
Courtney Vigil, Eastern New Mexico University, had an outstanding week for the Greyhounds in last week’s
doubleheader sweep at Oklahoma Panhandle State. She registered three hits in both games against the Aggies,
which equaled the team total when the two programs last met in February. In the first game, she doubled
twice and drove in three runs. Vigil followed with a two-RBI performance in the nightcap. AS the team’s starting
catcher, she tossed out three potential base-stealers over the doubleheader.
Victoria Schoonard-Saborio, Texas A&M University-Kingsville, finished the week with a .667 batting average
and had a team-high of five runs scored against #6 West Texas A&M. The sophomore opened the series by
going 4-for-5 at the plate and scored two runs. In game two, she picked up a hit and scored another two runs
in the 3-2 upset before closing the series with her eighth home run of the season. Schoonard-Saborio currently
sits second in the LSC with a .468 batting average, a .554 on-base percentage and 65 hits.
Kaitlyn Thomas, Tarleton State University, hit .600 in 10 at bats against Midwestern State last weekend. The
redshirt junior scored one run and stole two bases.
Nicole Nordie, Texas Woman’s University, once again led the offense for the Pioneers in a week that included
two walk-off singles, a triple and a home run where TWU went 5-for-5 with wins over Texas A&M International
and Texas-Permian Basin. In game one versus UTPB, Nordie ended the contest with a single up the middle in
the top of the seventh the seal the victory, and in the next game the senior utility player notched a second walk-
off single in for a run-rule win. Nordie was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate and tallied three RBI in that contest,
including a home run. Nordie continues to lead the conference with a .487 batting average and has compiled
a league-leading 75 hits, 10 more than the next closest player.
Brenna Busby, Cameron University, led CU at the plate in their three wins against Western New Mexico
the past weekend. She hit .385 with six RBI, five runs scored, and three of her five hits were for extra bases,
including two homers.Busby went 3-6 with two runs scored in game one, and provided a solo homer in the
10th to give CU the one run advantage they needed to win 8-7. In game two, she went 2-4 with three runs
scored and drove in 5 RBI, three coming on a homer in the first inning. Busby is second on the team with a .345
average, 10 homers, and 38 RBI, and leads CU with 49 runs scored.
Chealsea Slider, Texas A&M University-Commerce, hit two home runs off of Brandy Marlett in the Lions’ first
game against ASU over the weekend. It was her second and third home runs of the season. She went 2-for-3
that game and went 3-for-6 against arguably the best pitcher in the conference. Slider has 42 hits and 31 RBIs
so far this season. She has a fielding percentage of .989 and has started every game this season.
Abby Walker, Texas Woman’s University, chalked up two wins and a pair of saves in series against Texas A&M
International and Texas-Permian Basin. In her four appearances, the junior recorded an ERA of 0.00 and held
opponents to a .089 batting average while not allowing one earned run. Walker struck out 19 batters while
yielding just five hits. In game two versus TAMIU, Walker entered the circle in the top of the seventh with one
out on the board and collected the final two outs on a strike out and pop up for the victory. Walker totaled her
second complete game of the week in game one versus UTPB and tallied nine strikeouts and closed out the
series with a save that included three strikeouts in two innings.

Jordan Withrow, Tarleton State University, was nearly unhittable from the circle in Saturday’s series finale
that led Tarleton to a series win over Midwestern State. Withrow went to the circle for the rubber game of the
series and hurled a two-hit, complete-game shutout to earn the win. Withrow allowed two hits and three walks
while striking out five in Tarleton’s victory.
Bethany Hines, Cameron University, cemented herself in the Cameron record books as she won her 22, 23,
and 24 games against Western New Mexico, breaking the previous school record of 23 wins in a single season.
Hines posted a 1.38 ERA in 20.1 innings, while giving up just four earned runs. She also struck out nine batters
and held the Mustangs to a .277 batting average. Hines started all three games, going 9.1 innings in game one,
four in game two, and seven in game three. She is 24-6 on the season and leads the LSC with 195.1 innings
pitched.
Kaylee Rogers, Eastern New Mexico University, had a strong week for the Greyhounds and picked up a win
and a save at Oklahoma Panhandle. Over the doubleheader, she fanned 10 batters while issuing just two walks.
Rogers went the distance in the opener and fanned seven batters to earn her 15th win of the season. She
allowed just one hit over the final 1.2 innings of the nightcap to seal the sweep. Rogers’ 15 wins ranks fourth in
a season for Eastern and is the most since Nicole Dickson won 16 in the 2007 season.

Cameron
The Cameron softball team swept Western New Mexico to move to 32-15 on the season. In game one, CU
played 10 innings, with Brenna Busby playing the hero with a solo homer in the 10th to win 8-7. In game two,
Busby had five RBI as the Aggies won 12-3 in five innings. Bethany Hines got her CU single-season record
breaking 24 win in game three as CU won 2-1 to complete the three game sweep.
Eastern New Mexico
The Eastern New Mexico softball team avenged an early-season loss with a doubleheader sweep at Oklahoma
Panhandle. In contrast to the loss, which saw ENMU score one run on three hits, the Hounds exploded for 27
runs over the two games. Courtney Vigil paced ENMU at the plate with a .750 batting average and tossed out
three potential base stealers. Kaylee Rogers fanned 10 batters to earn the win in the opener and a save in the
nightcap. Erikka Burke cracked her 13th homer of the season to move into a tie for second on the ENMU single-
season list, and is just one away from tying the school record. This week, Eastern will conclude the regular
season at home against West Texas A&M.
Midwestern State

Tarleton State
Tarleton took two of three from Midwestern State in the home finale last weekend. The TexAnns will head to
Odessa this weekend for the regular season finale against UT Permian Basin.
Texas A&M-Commerce
The Lions went 0-3 last week against Angelo State. They will play a doubleheader on the road against Oklahoma
Baptist on Tuesday before ending the regular season at home with three games against Texas Woman’s.
Texas A&M-Kingsville

TWU tallied five wins on the week with a pair of victories against Texas A&M International and a three-game
sweep of Texas-Permian Basin.

West Texas A&M
The sixth ranked Lady Buffs went 3-2 this past week as they closed out their regular season home schedule with
a midweek doubleheader split with the NAIA’s #1 Oklahoma City Stars following a series win over Texas A&M-
Kingsville on Senior Weekend in Canyon. WT hit .257 as a team on the week with 10 doubles, one triple and six
homeruns in the five games with 67 total bases and a slugging percentage of .465. In the circle, WT registered a
3.15 ERA with 34 strikeouts in 40.0 innings of work and an opposing batting average of .311. The Lady Buffs hit
the road this weekend for the final Lone Star Conference series of the season as they take on the Greyhounds
of Eastern New Mexico starting on Friday afternoon with doubleheader action set for 2 p.m. CT followed by the
regular season finale on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. CT in Portales.
