LSC Softball Weekly Release (04/04/17)
1. LSC SOFTBALL
Angelo State continues to lead the Lone Star Conference standings with a 15-3 league record. The Rambelles
host Midwestern State for a three-game league series this week.
LSC play continues this week, along with a few non-conference games.
LSC teams are playing a single round-robin schedule with a three-game series against each league opponent.
The overall LSC Champion will be the team(s) with the best winning percentage in regular-season conference
games, while the winner of the postseason championship will be recognized as LSC Tournament Champion
and receive the leagueâs automatic qualification into NCAA postseason. The single-elimination championship
featuring the top six teams will be played May 5-6, at the No. 1 seed.
LSC softball teams are 224-191 overall this season. In the NCAA South Central Region, the group is currently
51-35 combined versus Heartland Conference teams and 17-9 against the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
HITTER
Victoria Schoonard-Saborio, Texas A&M University-Kingsville, SO, First base, Elk Grove, Calif., Elk Grove HS
Schoonard-Saborio was unstoppable this week despite whatever pitcher was set in front of her. The sophomore
batted .900 in four games played and had a team-best seven runs scored, 1.600 slugging percentage and .917
on-base percentage. The highlight of her week was in a doubleheader against Cameron where she went toe-to-
toe with one of the best pitchers in the league and hit a perfect 6-for-6, had a 2.000 slugging percentage and
led the team with five RBIs. In game one against the Aggies, the California native was 2-for-2 with one home
run and in game two, she was 4-for-4 and was a home run short of completing the cycle.
PITCHER
Haley Freyman, Tarleton State University, JR, RHP, North Richland Hills, Texas, Richland HS
Freyman was outstanding last week as the junior right-hander won three games for the TexAnns, including
two consecutive complete game shutouts of No. 1 Angelo State in a Friday doubleheader sweep to deliver
Tarletonâs first-ever series win over the Rambelles and a No. 1-ranked opponent. Freymanâs week began when
she hurled a complete game win at St. Edwardâs after allowing one run on five hits. She followed up with two of
the biggest wins in Tarletonâs history, beginning in game one Friday when she outdueled Angelo Stateâs Brandy
Marlett in a 2-0 shutout victory. In the second game of the doubleheader, Freyman went back to the circle and
made history for the TexAnns by blanking the nationâs No. 1 team once again and outdueling Angeloâs Kenedy
Urbany in a 4-0 win. Freyman threw 16 consecutive scoreless innings against Angelo State in the series. For
the week, Freyman threw 26.0 innings over four appearances and boasted a 1.62 ERA. Of her four starts, she
went the distance in three with two shutouts. She struck out 15 batters for the week while only walking five.
OTHER TOP PERFORMERS
Emilee Baker, West Texas A&M University, had a monster weekend for the No. 10 Lady Buffs as the sophomore
led WT to a Lone Star Conference sweep of UT Permian Basin in Odessa. The Schertz native went 6-for-9 at the
plate to hit .667 on the weekend with four homeruns to drive in eight RBI for an incredible slugging percentage
of 2.000 to go along with a HBP for an on-base clip of .700. Baker came up big on Saturday afternoon as the
sophomore connected on four different two-run long balls in her seven official at-bats to drive in eight RBI and
lead the Lady Buffs to a series sweep.
Kinsie Hebler, Texas A&M University-Commerce, a freshman from Cypress, Texas, was a force at the plate for
the Lions in their three games last week. She hit .636 (7-for-11), including two triples and a home run. She had
six RBIs and scored four times. She touched 15 total bases and slugged 1.364 with an on-base percentage of
.667. She is hitting .404 on the season with nine home runs, 38 RBIs and a .719 slugging percentage, all of which
are second on the team. Hebler is sporting a nine-game hitting streak and has reached base in 18-consecutive
games. With two RBIs in each of her three games last week, Hebler now has 14 games with multiple RBIs.
Hebler also continued her dominance in the circle for the Lions. She started two games and pitched her second
no-hitter in the past two weeks in her second start of the week. She also had four strikeouts. She gave up just
three hits in her first start of the week, striking out eight batters. In all, Hebler held opponents to a .071 batting
average. She pitched 13.0 innings over three games and had 13 strikeouts. She is undefeated in games where
she has started in the circle and has an overall record of 8-1 with a save in her 16 appearances this year. She is
in the top 20 in the nation in hits allowed per seven innings pitched and has an ERA of 1.62.
Megan Durante, Tarleton State University, hit .600 in five games last week as she extended her team-high
hitting streak to 11 games and helped Tarleton to a 4-1 record, including its first-ever series win over Angelo
State and a No. 1 ranked team. Durante was 6-for-10 at the dish with two doubles, one run scored, and three
RBI. Durante had a big RBI single in Fridayâs game one win over No. 1 Angelo State. Her RBI provided an
insurance run in the sixth and pushed Tarletonâs lead to 2-0. She followed up with an RBI double in game two to
push Tarletonâs lead to 4-0. For the week, she slugged .800 and boasted a .692 on-base percentage while also
fielding 1.000 with 51 putouts at first base and one assist.
Erin Knox, Midwestern State University, led the Midwestern State offense to a series sweep of Western
New Mexico last weekend with a team-best .571 batting average, 1.143 slugging percentage and .667 on base
percentage. The West native opened up the series with a 3-for-3 performance with two RBI and a run scored
with a solo home run coming in the first inning. In game two, Knox registered three walks and two runs while
adding a hit, walk and two RBI in the series finale with her team-leading ninth double of the season. On the

weekend, Knox recorded four hits, four RBI, four
walks and three runs scored. Knox also added two
wins in the circle, posting a 0.50 ERA with a career-
high eight strikeouts coming in the series opener.
Mariangela Garcia, Western New Mexico, hit .444
with a walk and no strikeouts in the three games
against Midwestern State. She tallied four hits and
an RBI, along with a run scored. Garcia extended
her hitting streak to seven straight hitting in all three
games against the Mustangs with a 2-2 game to finish
the series.
Nicole Nordie, Texas Womanâs University, blasted
a home run against third-ranked St. Maryâs as the
lead off batter for the Pioneers in game one on the
way to a 7-4 TWU victory. In game two, the senior
notched a single in the bottom of the fourth to up her
consecutive streak of games with a hit to 18 to tie a
TWU program record. Nordie currently leads the LSC
in hits with 59 on the season.
Susannah Chandler, Eastern New Mexico
University, drove in runs in two of ENMUâs three
games at Texas A&M-Commerce. In the opener, she
blasted a game-winning three-run homer in the fifth
inning.
Erin Knox, Midwestern State University, earned a
pair of wins in the circle while registering a 0.50 ERA
last weekend against Western New Mexico. In her
first appearance, the West native posted a career-
high eight strikeouts while allowing just one earned
run in a complete game outing. In the series finale,
she allowed no earned runs while recording three
strikeouts to finish the weekend holding opponents
to a .203 batting average. Knox also shined at the
plate for MSU, leading the team with a .571 batting
average, 1.143 slugging percentage and .667 on base
percentage with four hits, four RBI, four walks and
three runs scored.

Kilee Halbert, West Texas A&M University,
continued to roll this past weekend as the Dalhart
native picked up a pair of victories as the No. 10 Lady
Buffs swept past the Falcons of UT Permian Basin in
Odessa. Halbert went 2-0 on the weekend with a
0.78 ERA as the junior right hander struck out seven
batters in her 9.0 innings of work with two walks and
just five hits with one run. She moved into second
place on WTâs career list in victories as the Dalhart
product picked up her 49th and 50th win this past
weekend to rank second in program history.

the junior struck out three more batters, and only
allowed two earned runs throughout both contests.

Angelo State
The Rambelles are 36-4 on the season and 15-3
in the LSC. ASU rebounded from a doubleheader
sweep at Tarleton State to take the series finale 9-2
on Saturday. Courtney Barnhill went 4-for-8 last week
with one double and home run. The freshman led
the team with three RBI against Tarleton State. ASU
has the No. 6 ERA in the nation at 1.51 and No. 10 in
home runs per game (1.10) and on base percentage
(.429). ASU will face Texas A&M International on the
road before hosting Midwestern State at Mayer Field.

Eastern New Mexico
The Eastern New Mexico softball team earned
a 5-4 decision in the opening contest of a Lone
Star Conference series at Texas A&M-Commerce.
Susannah Chandler cracked a go-ahead three-
run homer in the fifth inning, while Kaylee Rogers
scattered nine hits to earn her 13th win of the season.
The Lions bounced back to win the final two games.
Eastern will visit Oklahoma Christian on Tuesday and
host Cameron on Friday and Saturday.
Midwestern State

sweep of the season last weekend following a perfect
slate against Western New Mexico at Mustangs Park.
MSU improved to 17-20 overall and 8-13 in LSC
action. Senior Erin Knox led the Mustangs with a .571
batting average while earning two wins in the circle
with a 0.50 ERA to pace the Maroon and Gold in the
series. The Mustangs square off against No. 1 Angelo
State in a three-game conference series Friday and
Saturday at Mayer Field in San Angelo.
Tarleton State
Tarleton earned its first-ever series win over Angelo
State and first-ever series win against a national No.
1 team by taking two of three from the Rambelles.
Haley Freyman threw back-to-back shutouts Friday
night to deliver the series win. Tarleton went 4-1 in
five games for the week and will head to Denton this
weekend for three game at Texas Womanâs.
Texas A&M-Commerce
The Lions went 2-1 last week against Eastern New
Mexico. Kinsie Hebler pitched her second no-hitter in
the last two weeks in the third game of the series.
The Lions return to action Friday as they travel to
face rival West Texas A&M in a three-game series in
Canyon.
Texas A&M-Kingsville
2-2 last week.
Texas Womanâs
TWU defeated No. 3 St. Maryâs, 7-4, Wednesday
before dropping the second contest, 7-4.
UT Permian Basin
0-3 last week.
West Texas A&M
The No. 10 Lady Buffs rolled to a Lone Star Conference
sweep this past weekend as they outscored the
Falcons of UT Permian Basin, 41-6 in Odessa. The
Lady Buffs hit .452 as a team this past weekend with
seven doubled and 15 homeruns to drive in 40 RBI
with total bases for a slugging percentage of 1.011 to
go along with 19 walks for an on-base clip of .544. WT
hit 14 homeruns on Saturday along with six in Game
2 and eight in the series finale.
Western New Mexico
Mariangela Garcia led the offense against Midwestern
State with a .444 average, while Brooklyn Misenhimer
had some quality at-bats posting two hits and going
.333 for the week with an RBI. Ariana Maldonado
drove in two runs. Garcia hit .444 with a walk and
no strikeouts in the three games against Midwestern
State. She tallied four hits and an RBI, along with a
run scored. Garcia extended her hitting streak to
seven straight hitting in all three games against the
Mustangs with a 2-2 game to finish the series.
