LSC Women's Basketball Weekly Release (02/27/17)
1. LSC WOMEN’S BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP
The women’s bracket for the Lone Star Conference Basketball Championship March 2-5 in Allen, Texas, is set.
The top eight teams have advanced to the LSC Championship Tournament and the postseason begins with
games on Thursday, March 2.
Eastern New Mexico and Angelo State shared the LSC title with identical 16-4 league records. The
Greyhounds earned the No. 1 seed via tiebreaker.
Tickets are available through Ticketmaster outlets and Ticketmaster.com, as well as the Allen Event Center
box office. Single-session tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students.
All seven games will be streamed live free of charge through the LSC’s GameCentral portal (http://portal.
stretchinternet.com/lonestar). In addition to supporting desktop and laptop computers, GameCentral’s
responsive design will support mobile devices as well (iPad, iPhones, Android).
LSC WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
The LSC women are 159-137 overall. The women’s squads are currently 14-9 combined against the Heartland,
and 9-9 versus RMAC teams, which are the other conferences in the NCAA South Central Region.
PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
OFFENSIVE
Taylor Dorsey, Angelo State University, SR, Guard, Fort Worth, Texas, Dunbar
Dorsey led the Belles in scoring with back-to-back 20 point games to help ASU clinch a share of its first Lone
Star Conference title since 2005. The senior had 22 and 26 points, respectively, and made 54.8 percent from
the field and 45.5 percent from behind the arc. She was also efficient from the free throw line hitting 9-of-11
(.818). The Fort Worth native scored at least 20 points for the 11th and 12th time this season in wins over
Eastern New Mexico and Western New Mexico. She also averaged 4.5 rebounds to go along with five assists,
three blocks and five steals.
DEFENSIVE
Maddison Wild, West Texas A&M University, SR, Forward, Epsom, Victoria, Australia, Girton Grammar
Wild continued to have an impressive senior campaign with a double-double on 14 points and 10 rebounds in
a 79-51 win over Texas A&M-Commerce for her team-leading third double-double of the season and followed
with nine points and five rebounds in a win over Tarleton State to clinch the No. 3-seed in the LSC Championship.
She helped hold opponents to 60 points per game including a season-low 51 for A&M-C and 34.5 percent from
the field. Wild went 10 of 18 from the field for the week (.556) with two triples, one free throw, while leading
the team averaging 7.5 rebounds per game and 11.5 points per game.
OTHER TOP PERFORMERS
Jordan Gutierrez, Western New Mexico, picked up her fourth 30-point performance of the season when she
tied her career-high with 36 points in the win over Texas A&M-Kingsville. She made 12 field goals, four three-
pointers, went 8-8 at the foul line and added a double-double with 10 rebounds. Against Angelo State she
added 27 more points with 10 field goals and five three-pointers, along with five rebounds. In the game against
the Rambelles she scored her 1,000th point in her career and she also finished the regular season leading the
conference both in total points and points per game. For the week she averaged 31.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.0
assists and 1.5 steals while making 41 percent and 39 percent from three-point range.
Kenesha Saygo, Texas Woman’s University, became the fourth-leading scorer in TWU history with a 35-point
performance at Cameron and has now tallied 1,317 points throughout her career. Against the Aggies, Saygo
rallied her team from a 25-point third quarter deficit to score 25 of her own after halftime in a 103-90 victory.
The senior has eclipsed the 30-point mark three times within the last eight games. Versus Midwestern State,
Saygo scored in double figures by hitting all eight of her free throw attempts and also dished out a game-high
five assists. Throughout the two contests, Saygo averaged 23.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists and a steal.
Mackenzie Hailey, Tarleton State University, continued her season of dominance through the final two
games of the regular season as the sophomore from Burleson posted back-to-back 18-point performances
against UT Permian Basin and West Texas A&M. She shot .682 from the floor for the week, including .800 on
8-10 shooting at UTPB Thursday. She also grabbed 10 rebounds and dished out six assists.
Artaejah Gay, Texas A&M University-Commerce, had a career day to end the regular season for the Lions.
She scored 31 points against UT Perman Basin, a career high. She shot 12-of-17 from the field and shot 80
percent from behind the arc. Gay also had a strong defensive showing, swatting away two shots and grabbing
a steal. Gay is sixth in the conference in scoring and in field goal percentage and fifth in blocked shots.
Jasmine Hotchkins, Eastern New Mexico University, had a strong week for the Greyhounds and paced the
team in scoring in both games. She connected on nearly half of her 20 three-point attempts and dished out four
assists. Hotchkins shot .667 outside the arc against LSC co-champion Angelo State to finish with 16 points. She
connected on another five three-point baskets against Texas A&M-Kingsville for another 16-point game.
Meesha Wade, Texas A&M University-Kingsville, coming back from a gruesome eye injury that saw her sit
the Senior Day win versus UTPB, she scored 17 points at Western New Mexico Thursday... versus the Mustangs,
Wade went 6-of-12 from the field and added seven rebounds and two assists... two days later, Wade scored
14 points and added six rebounds, two assists and two steals in the upset win over top ranked and No. 19
nationally Eastern New Mexico.

Sasha Watson, West Texas A&M University, played
her final two games in the First United Bank Center
averaging a team-high 14.5 points helping the Lady
Buffs to a pair of wins as the team earned the No.
3-seed in the upcoming LSC Championship with the
wins. Watson went a team-high 14 of 24 from the
field (.583) with one triple, seven assists and she
averaged 4.5 rebounds per game. Watson scored 16
points on 8 of 16 from the field and tallied a team-
high eight rebounds on Senior Day.
Daeshi McCants, Eastern New Mexico University,
blocked three shots to lead a defensive effort for
ENMU against Angelo State and Texas A&M-Kingsville.
She finished with 16 defensive rebounds and posted
a double double for the second time against LSC co-
champion, Angelo State.
JasmineProphet,AngeloStateUniversity, recorded
her fifth double-double of the season against ENMU
and grabbed 13 total rebounds last week. The
senior’s four blocks and defensive presence helped
ASU hold teams to just 37.5 percent from the field.
She averaged 17.5 points per game in the two games
and the 10 rebounds against ENMU is the most since
her career high of 17 versus WNMU.
Keshaun Clark, Western New Mexico, was big on
the defensive end as she pulled down 12 rebounds,
10 on the defensive end, while leading the team
in blocks with five and steals with nine. She also
added 34 points and shot 46 percent from the field,
including a 43 percent effort from three making 6-14.
Against the Javelinas Clark tallied seven steals, along
with a block, four rebounds and 17 points. She made
7-16 from the field, including three three-pointers. To
close the season versus Angelo State she added 17
more points along with eight rebounds, four blocks
and two steals while making 6-12 from the field and
3-7 from three.
Brianna Wise, Texas A&M University-Commerce,
had two blocks and a steal in the Lions’ nine point win
over UT Permian Basin. She was part of the defense
that held the Falcons to 34 percent shooting in the
second half and just 11 points in the fourth quarter.
Wise finished the regular season as the top free
throw shooter in the conference, shooting nearly 84
percent from the line.
Alexis Nezianya, Texas Woman’s University, was
once again a formidable presence in the middle
for the Pioneers in wins against Cameron and
Midwestern State. The junior forward collected five
blocks and three rebounds versus the Aggies while
completing a near-perfect performance from the
field on 8-of-9 shooting for 16 points. Against MSU,
Nezianya helped hold the Mustangs to just 15 total
field goals and 13 points below their season average
and pulled down four rebounds and recorded two
blocked shots. In the two wins, Nezianya averaged 12
points on 71-percent shooting, 3.5 rebounds and 3.5
blocks.
Tiara Tatum, Tarleton State University, had a strong
defensive week for the TexAnns as the junior was
the primary defender of the top guards from UTPB
and West Texas A&M. Tatum forced a team high
four steals for the week and grabbed five defensive
rebounds to go along with 19 points.

The Angelo State women’s basketball team clinched
its first Lone Star Conference Championships since
2005 with a pair of wins over Eastern New Mexico
and Western New Mexico ... Taylor Dorsey scored
at least 20 points for the 11th and 12th times of the
season ... Jasmine Prophet recorded her fifth double-

double of the season in the win over ENMU ... The
Belles enter the LSC tournament as the No. 2 seed
and will face Cameron at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Eastern New Mexico
Eastern New Mexico closed out the regular season last
week and will enter this week’s Lone Star Conference
tournament as the top seed. With a team-record 16
league wins, the Hounds earned a share of their first-
ever LSC title. The squad also registered its third-ever
20-win season. Prior to Saturday’s contest, Eastern
honored Kassandra Harris as the lone senior on the
roster. On Thursday, the Hounds will face Texas A&M-
Kingsville in the opening round, at the Allen Events
Center.
Midwestern State
0-2 last week.
Tarleton State
Tarleton went 1-1 in the final two games of the regular
season and head into next week’s LSC Tournament
as the No. 5 seed, where they face off against Texas
A&M-Commerce Friday at 6:30 p.m. at the Allen
Event Center.
Texas A&M-Commerce
The Lions defeated UT Permian Basin on Saturday to
post their second 20-win season in program history.
A&M-C finished in fourth place in the conference.
The Lions continue to lead the nation in free throws
made and free throws attempted. They are also top
ten in rebounding as well. The Lions have the co-
top rebounder (Jenna Price), top free throw shooter
(Brianna Wise) and the second best distributer (Khala
Riley) in the conference. The Lions will face Tarleton
State in the quarterfinal round of the LSC tournament
as the fourth seed.
Texas A&M-Kingsville
It was a tale of two halves as A&M-Kingsville fell to
the last place team in the LSC before pulling off an
upset in the final regular season game over league
leader Eastern New Mexico... the Javelinas enter the
LSC Tournament as the No. 8 seed and will battle the
Greyhounds once again... TAMUK advanced to the
LSC Championship for the first time in three seasons.
Texas Woman’s
TWU closed out the regular season with wins over
Cameron and Midwestern State.
UT Permian Basin
UTPB ended its 2016-17 season with a pair of 57-67
and 69-78 losses to Tarleton State and Texas A&M -
Commerce. Niva Taito led the Falcons averaging 16.5
points with eight 3-pointers on the week, scoring 17
points against Tarleton State with 16 points against
Texas A&M-Commerce.
West Texas A&M
The Lady Buffs finished the 2016-17 regular season
with a 22-7 record and a 15-5 mark in Lone Star
Conference play...WT is the No. 3-seed in the
upcoming Lone Star Conference Championship
this week in Allen, Texas...WT last was a #3 seed in
2012-13 as the team reached the championship
game, falling in double overtime to Midwestern
State finishing the season with a 20-12 record...For
the week, WT continued blistering shooting going
54 of 109 from the field (.495) with 12 triples on 35
attempts (.343) and went 32 of 42 from the line for
a .762 clip...WT averaged 40 rebounds per game and
held the opposition to 30 per game...The Lady Buffs
had 34 assists, 27 turnovers, 11 blocks and 13 steals,
while scoring an average of 76.0 points per game and
allowing 60.0...Five players averaged double figures
for the week for WT led by a 14.5 average from senior
Sasha Watson, while senior Maddison Wild averaged
a team-high 7.5 rebounds per game...Five Lady Buffs
averaged over 4.0 rebounds per game for the week as
the 40.0 average was the highest for a two game week
of the season...In fact, WT held league-leading Texas
A&M-Commerce to just 34 rebounds as the Lions
entered averaging over 45 per game...Saturday’s
win over Tarleton State was WT head coach Kristen
Mattio’s 50th at WT...She is 50-12 in her second year
at the helm of the program...WT now will face Texas
Woman’s in a rubber match 3/6 game as both teams
won on their home court this season.
Western New Mexico
The Lady Mustangs picked up their first LSC victory
of the season in the 75-67 win over Texas A&M-
Kingsville. Jordan Gutierrez tied her career-high going
for 36 points in the win. WNMU then came close
against Angelo State, pulling to within a point in the
fourth quarter before falling short. Outside of the top
performance by Gutierrez, Keshaun Clark had a big
defensive week, while Jade Botelho and Jayla Brown
each scored over 20 points. Gutierrez picked up her
fourth 30-point performance of the season when she
tied her career-high with 36 points in the win over
Texas A&M-Kingsville. She made 12 field goals, four
three-pointers, went 8-8 at the foul line and added a
double-doublewith10rebounds.AgainstAngeloState
