LSC SOFTBALL
West Texas A&M remains undefeated in non-conference play at 11-0, while Angelo State has started the season
10-1 to top the standings.
Lone Star Conference action starts this week, along with a few non-conference contests.
LSC teams are playing a single round-robin schedule with a three-game series against each league opponent.
The overall LSC Champion will be the team(s) with the best winning percentage in regular-season conference
games, while the winner of the postseason championship will be recognized as LSC Tournament Champion
and receive the league’s automatic qualification into NCAA postseason. The single-elimination championship
featuring the top six teams will be played May 5-6, at the No. 1 seed.
LSC softball teams are 66-51 overall this season. In the NCAA South Central Region, the group is currently 15-
16 combined versus Heartland Conference teams and 13-9 against the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
HITTER
Allie Smith, West Texas A&M University, JR, Designated Player, Flower Mound, Texas, Flower Mound
Smith continued her hot start to the 2017 season this past weekend as the junior registered a hit in all six games
of the WT Invitational to run her hitting streak to 11 as the No. 4 Lady Buffs moved to 11-0 overall. Her current
streak is tied for 16th all-time in program history. The Flower Mound product went 9-for-16 at the plate this
weekend to hit .563 with six doubles and a homerun to drive in 10 RBI for a slugging percentage of 1.125 to go
along with a walk and just one strikeout for an on-base clip of .588. Smith had two hits in three of the six games
during the WT Invitational as the Lady Buffs outscored their opponents 55-4 in the two-day event. The junior
went 2-for-2 at the dish against Chadron State on Saturday afternoon with a double and three RBI.
PITCHER
Katie Dean, Texas A&M University-Commerce, SO, Pitcher, Whitesboro, Texas, Whitesboro HS
Dean was an ace for the Lions in their tournament last weekend. She had two wins and a save in three
appearances. Dean held hitters to just a .190 average with 11 strikeouts and an ERA of 1.80 in 11.2 innings
pitched. She pitched a complete game in the Lions 6-2 win over Hillsdale College, striking out six batters and
getting eight groundouts and six fly outs on 101 pitches. Dean followed that performance the next day with a
two-inning save in the Lions 3-2 win over No. 17 Saint Leo’s. She struck out all three batters she faced in the
sixth inning and didn’t give up a hit, retiring all six batters she faced. Dean again shined when called upon in the
Lions 9-4 win against Florida Tech. She came in with the bases loaded and no outs with the Lions trailing 3-2.
Dean forced a ground out to home plate and then another groundout to turn a double play to get the Lions out
of the jam without scoring a run. She struck out two more batters and got the relief win for the Lions.
OTHER TOP PERFORMERS
Nicole Nordie, Texas Woman’s University, collected 11 hits and six RBI while hitting .611 in five games at the
North Texas Softball Bash. The senior blasted a home run against No. 5 Southern Arkansas and tallied three
leadoff doubles against Northwestern Oklahoma State, the most doubles from an LSC player in a single game
this season. Nordie collected 11 hits and six RBI while hitting .611 in five games at the North Texas Softball

the tournament, Nordie tallied 17 total bases with a .944 slugging percentage and stole three bases.
Courtney Barnhill, Angelo State University, led a Rambelle offense with a .583 average and scoring six runs.
The freshman launched her first two home runs of the season and drove in six RBIs. The Lubbock native was a
perfect 5-for-5 on stealing bases and drew four walks. She led the team with a 1.250 slugging clip and a .706
on-base percentage.
Ciera Nunez, Texas A&M University-Commerce, was a constant base runner for the Lions, reaching base nine
times in her 16 plate appearances. She scored five runs, using her speed to race around the bags. She also had
a stolen base and finished with a .533 batting average and a .563 on base percentage. On the defensive end,
she had nine putouts and four assists and had no errors, playing both left field and second base.
Linzy Granger, Western New Mexico, had a strong six games this past week tallying 10 hits to post a .526
batting average, eight runs score, two doubles, a triple and five RBI. She also walked four times and had zero
strikeouts. She was solid at second base with 14 put outs and 11 assists for a perfect fielding percentage. She
had a hit in all six games, tallying a pair of three hit games. She scored two runs in a game three times and had
an RBI in four games, with a high of two coming against nationally-ranked Central Washington. If that wasn’t
enough, she also stole two bases. She went a perfect 3-3 against Hawaii-Hilo and a 3-4 game versus Central
Washington. In the six games she had a .737 slugging percentage and a .609 on-base percentage.
Maddie Quintanar, Tarleton State University, led the TexAnns with 10 hits in six games at the DFW Softball
Bash last weekend. Quintanar went 10-20 at the plate for a .500 batting average to go with a team-high 11 runs
scored. Quintanar went 8-8 in stolen base attempts for Tarleton thanks to her .565 on-base percentage.
Erikka Burke, Eastern New Mexico University, registered a strong week for the ENMU softball team. She
hit safely in six of the team’s seven games. She also had an extra-base hit in four of the contests. On Tuesday,
Burke started the week with a three-for-four outing against Colorado Christian, with a double. She also had a
three-for-five game against Northwestern Oklahoma with three runs batted in, a double and a home run. Burke
played perfect defense for the Greyhounds at first base, with no errors in 50 opportunities.

Brenna Busby, Cameron University, helped lead
CU to a 7-0 record last week, leading them with 10
RBI. She hit .429 and had an amazing 1.190 slugging
percentage. All but one of B. Busby’s hits was for
extra bases, as she recorded three doubles, two
triples, and three homeruns. She also scored eight
times and walked twice. B. Busby is hitting .368 with
12 RBI on the season.
Roxy Chapa, Texas A&M University-Kingsville,
2016 All-American picked up from where she left
off last season. After ending the previous year with
an 11-game hitting streak, she extended the streak
to 14 in the next three games, including a three-hit
performance in the 6-3 win against Northwestern
Oklahoma State University. Overall last weekend,
Chapa leads the team a .400 batting average, six hits
and two doubles. The sophomore is tied with a team-
best three RBIs.
Lauren Lindgren, Midwestern State University,
posted four multiple-hit performances in six outings
last week to lead Midwestern State to a 5-1 record at
Mustangs Park. The Denton native led the Mustangs
with eight hits including a pair of doubles and MSU’s
first triple of the season while recording a team-best
six runs and three stolen bases. Lindgren scored the
game-winning runs against Oklahoma Panhandle
State and Southwest Baptist (Mo.) and scored a pair
of runs in wins over Colorado Mines and SBU. She
also matched a season-best two RBI in wins over
OPSU and Newman (Kan.).
Erin Knox, Midwestern State University, allowed
no runs in 12.0 innings of work in the circle to
lead Midwestern State to a 5-1 record last week at
Mustangs Park. The West native pitched a two-hit
shutout against Oklahoma Panhandle State to begin
the week with no extra-base hits in the complete
game effort. At the MSU Round Robin, Knox and Tayler
Jerrick combined for a shutout in the tournament
opener against Colorado Mines with Knox striking out
three while allowing four hits in 5.0 innings to earn
the victory over the Orediggers. On the week, Knox
limited opponents to a .150 batting average while
allowing just one extra-base hit.
Morgan Hill, Angelo State University, helped
ASU to a 6-0 record not allowing a run in three
appearances. The junior only allowed six hits in 9.1
innings pitched and struck out nine. The Salado
native held opponents to a .188 batting average.
Kilee Halbert, West Texas A&M University,
continued to roll in the circle for the fourth ranked
Lady Buffs as the junior tossed a pair of complete
game shutouts to lead WT to an 11-0 start to the
season. The Dalhart native went 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA
as the LSC Preseason Pitcher of the Year allowed just
seven hits in her 12.0 innings of work with two walks
and seven strikeouts in the two shutouts to allow an
opponent batting average of .171. Halbert allowed
just three hits in the WT Invitational opener against
Fort Lewis with five strikeouts followed by a four-hit
shutout on Saturday against Chadron State in a run-
rule victory as the Lady Buffs registered a 30-inning
scoreless streak over the weekend.
Haley Freyman, Tarleton State University, led the
TexAnns to three of the four wins at the DFW Softball
Bash by throwing three complete games - one being
a shutout - and recording a 0.67 ERA to go with a 3-0
record in the circle. Freyman pitched 21 innings and
gave up only two earned runs while striking out nine.
Opponents hit .192 off Freyman in the three games.
Freyman became the third TexAnn in school history
with 50 pitching victories in her career when the
TexAnns defeated Northwestern Oklahoma.
Bethany Hines, Cameron University, led CU with
four wins and a save during their seven game win
streak last week. She compiled a 1.71 ERA with 15

strikeouts over 28.2 innings pitched. Hines walked
just five batters and gave up 24 hits in her five
appearances. She also hit .435 and had seven RBI to
help out her own cause. On the season, Hines is 6-2
with a 2.64 ERA.
Abby Walker, Texas Woman’s University, went 2-1
for TWU at the North Texas Softball Bash. In her first
appearance against the then-undefeated Lubbock
Christian, the junior had a no-hitter throughout six
innings and finished the game with three hits and
10 strikeouts, matching the highest single-game
strikeout total from an LSC pitcher this season.
Walker concluded the tournament with a one-hit
shutout versus Oklahoma Panhandle comprised of
eight strikeouts. The lone hit came on an infield single
to lead off the game in which a Pioneer infielder
tripped on a routine popup before Walker retired
the last 14 batters. In 22.2 innings throughout the
tournament, Walker struck out 25 batters and held
the opponents to a .183 batting average.
Kaylee Rogers, Eastern New Mexico University,
appeared in four games for the Greyhounds last
week, and earned wins over Colorado Christian and
Regis. Over 19.1 innings pitched, she allowed just
three extra-base hits, with no homeruns. In the wins,
she allowed just three and four hits, respectively.

Cameron
The Aggie softball team had a busy week last week
as they went 7-0, sweeping a doubleheader with
Southeastern Oklahoma early in the week and then
winning all five of their games at the WT Lady Buff
Invite on Friday and Saturday. In the circle, Bethany
Hines went 4-0 with one save, giving up seven earned
runs while striking out 15 in 28.2 innings. Callie Busby
led CU with 11 hits and 10 runs over the seven game
span, while her sister, Brenna Busby, led the Aggies
with 10 RBI.
Eastern New Mexico
The Eastern New Mexico softball team had a busy
week with seven games. Over that span, the Hounds
picked up wins over Colorado Christian, Regis, and
Northwestern Oklahoma State. ENMU wrapped up
the week with a wild rally from an eight-run deficit
against Colorado Christian to tie the game, before
falling 9-8 in the seventh. Kaylee Rogers picked up
two of the Greyhounds victories in the circle, while
Alyssa Lovato also notched a win. Erikka Burke
and Kylee Keller both hit over .400 for Eastern and
combined for seven RBIs. This week, the Hounds will
host New Mexico Highlands on Wednesday for a non-
conference doubleheader, before heading to Western
New Mexico to open LSC play.
Midwestern State
Midwestern State posted a 5-1 record last week
at home to improve to 6-6 on the season with a
doubleheader sweep against Oklahoma Panhandle
State and a 3-1 record at the MSU Round Robin. The
Mustangs tallied three shutouts last week and four
wins over South Central Region opponents. MSU
will play host to UT Permian Basin in its Lone Star
Conference opening series this weekend at Mustangs
Park with a doubleheader Friday beginning at 4 p.m.
and a single game Saturday at 1 p.m.
Tarleton State
Tarleton went 4-2 on the weekend at the DFW
Softball Bash in Grand Prairie. The TexAnns are 7-4

overall on the season. Maddie Quintanar led the TexAnns with 10 hits in the six games and also scored 11 runs.
Haley Freyman went 3-0 in the circle with a 0.67 ERA and recorded her 50th career win over the weekend. The
TexAnns will begin LSC play against Texas A&M-Commerce on Saturday, Feb. 18 at home.
Texas A&M-Commerce
The Lions finished 4-1 last weekend at the NFCA Leadoff Classic in Florida. The Lions knocked off No. 17 Saint
Leo and their only loss came to No. 13 Valdosta State. Two Lions hit over .500 and six hit at least .333. The team
as a whole hit .315 while the Lion bullpen held opponents to a .250 batting average. The Lions averaged four
runs per game while holding opponents to under three runs a game. Ten different Lions crossed home plate
and eight different players recorded at least one RBI. The Lions also stole six bases and struck out just 10 times
while striking out 26 opposing batters. The Lions open up conference action this weekend with a three-game
series on the road against Tarleton State. The Lions then have their home opener against St. Mary’s on Feb. 25.
Texas A&M-Kingsville
The Javelinas opened the 2017 season at the North Texas Softball Bash where they finished with a 3-2 record.
The Hogs will head to Angelo State this weekend to began conference play.
Texas Woman’s
TWU went 3-3 at the North Texas Softball Bash over the weekend, concluding with three straight wins over
Regis, Northwestern Oklahoma and Oklahoma Panhandle.
UT Permian Basin
1-4 last week.
West Texas A&M
The fourth ranked Lady Buffs continued to roll this past weekend as they outscored their opponents 55-4 during
the 2017 WT Invitational with wins over Fort Lewis, Washburn (twice), Chadron State, Missouri Southern and
Fort Hays State to improve to 11-0 overall. The Lady Buffs held opponents scoreless for 26 consecutive innings
to begin the event and tossed four shutouts to outscore their opponents 55-4. The WT offense hit .421 on the
weekend with 14 doubles, three triples and 11 homeruns to drive in 51 RBI with 109 total bases for a slugging
percentage of .820. WT hits the road this weekend as they travel to Tucson, Arizona to take part in the 2017
Cactus Classic at Lincoln Park. WT is scheduled to take on the University of Mary, Academy of Art, Lincoln
Memorial and Dixie State (twice).
Western New Mexico
WNMU came close in several games this past week, playing Hawaii-Hilo twice and four games at the DSU
Easton Classic. Outside of Linzy Granger’s big offensive week, Bailey McFarland, Mariangela Garcia and Lacy
Granger all hit over .300. Garcia tallied three doubles and Ariana Maldonado had the first home run of the
season for the Lady Mustangs against #14 Central Washington. Domi Shone logged the most innings with 22
innings and had a 5.73 ERA. Thailia O’Neill was strong against CSU-Pueblo tossing a complete game 7.1 innings
and allowing just three earned runs. Linzy Granger had a strong six games this past week tallying 10 hits to post
a .526 batting average, eight runs score, two doubles, a triple and five RBI. She also walked four times and had
zero strikeouts. She was solid at second base with 14 put outs and 11 assists for a perfect fielding percentage.

LSC Softball Weekly Release (02/14/17)

  • 1. LSC SOFTBALL West Texas A&M remains undefeated in non-conference play at 11-0, while Angelo State has started the season 10-1 to top the standings. Lone Star Conference action starts this week, along with a few non-conference contests. LSC teams are playing a single round-robin schedule with a three-game series against each league opponent. The overall LSC Champion will be the team(s) with the best winning percentage in regular-season conference games, while the winner of the postseason championship will be recognized as LSC Tournament Champion and receive the league’s automatic qualification into NCAA postseason. The single-elimination championship featuring the top six teams will be played May 5-6, at the No. 1 seed. LSC softball teams are 66-51 overall this season. In the NCAA South Central Region, the group is currently 15- 16 combined versus Heartland Conference teams and 13-9 against the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. PLAYERS OF THE WEEK HITTER Allie Smith, West Texas A&M University, JR, Designated Player, Flower Mound, Texas, Flower Mound Smith continued her hot start to the 2017 season this past weekend as the junior registered a hit in all six games of the WT Invitational to run her hitting streak to 11 as the No. 4 Lady Buffs moved to 11-0 overall. Her current streak is tied for 16th all-time in program history. The Flower Mound product went 9-for-16 at the plate this weekend to hit .563 with six doubles and a homerun to drive in 10 RBI for a slugging percentage of 1.125 to go along with a walk and just one strikeout for an on-base clip of .588. Smith had two hits in three of the six games during the WT Invitational as the Lady Buffs outscored their opponents 55-4 in the two-day event. The junior went 2-for-2 at the dish against Chadron State on Saturday afternoon with a double and three RBI. PITCHER Katie Dean, Texas A&M University-Commerce, SO, Pitcher, Whitesboro, Texas, Whitesboro HS Dean was an ace for the Lions in their tournament last weekend. She had two wins and a save in three appearances. Dean held hitters to just a .190 average with 11 strikeouts and an ERA of 1.80 in 11.2 innings pitched. She pitched a complete game in the Lions 6-2 win over Hillsdale College, striking out six batters and getting eight groundouts and six fly outs on 101 pitches. Dean followed that performance the next day with a two-inning save in the Lions 3-2 win over No. 17 Saint Leo’s. She struck out all three batters she faced in the sixth inning and didn’t give up a hit, retiring all six batters she faced. Dean again shined when called upon in the Lions 9-4 win against Florida Tech. She came in with the bases loaded and no outs with the Lions trailing 3-2. Dean forced a ground out to home plate and then another groundout to turn a double play to get the Lions out of the jam without scoring a run. She struck out two more batters and got the relief win for the Lions. OTHER TOP PERFORMERS Nicole Nordie, Texas Woman’s University, collected 11 hits and six RBI while hitting .611 in five games at the North Texas Softball Bash. The senior blasted a home run against No. 5 Southern Arkansas and tallied three leadoff doubles against Northwestern Oklahoma State, the most doubles from an LSC player in a single game this season. The senior blasted a home run against No. 5 Southern Arkansas and tallied three leadoff doubles against Northwestern Oklahoma State, the most doubles from an LSC player in a single game this season. Throughout the tournament, Nordie tallied 17 total bases with a .944 slugging percentage and stole three bases. Courtney Barnhill, Angelo State University, led a Rambelle offense with a .583 average and scoring six runs. The freshman launched her first two home runs of the season and drove in six RBIs. The Lubbock native was a perfect 5-for-5 on stealing bases and drew four walks. She led the team with a 1.250 slugging clip and a .706 on-base percentage. Ciera Nunez, Texas A&M University-Commerce, was a constant base runner for the Lions, reaching base nine times in her 16 plate appearances. She scored five runs, using her speed to race around the bags. She also had a stolen base and finished with a .533 batting average and a .563 on base percentage. On the defensive end, she had nine putouts and four assists and had no errors, playing both left field and second base. Linzy Granger, Western New Mexico, had a strong six games this past week tallying 10 hits to post a .526 batting average, eight runs score, two doubles, a triple and five RBI. She also walked four times and had zero strikeouts. She was solid at second base with 14 put outs and 11 assists for a perfect fielding percentage. She had a hit in all six games, tallying a pair of three hit games. She scored two runs in a game three times and had an RBI in four games, with a high of two coming against nationally-ranked Central Washington. If that wasn’t enough, she also stole two bases. She went a perfect 3-3 against Hawaii-Hilo and a 3-4 game versus Central Washington. In the six games she had a .737 slugging percentage and a .609 on-base percentage. Maddie Quintanar, Tarleton State University, led the TexAnns with 10 hits in six games at the DFW Softball Bash last weekend. Quintanar went 10-20 at the plate for a .500 batting average to go with a team-high 11 runs scored. Quintanar went 8-8 in stolen base attempts for Tarleton thanks to her .565 on-base percentage. Erikka Burke, Eastern New Mexico University, registered a strong week for the ENMU softball team. She hit safely in six of the team’s seven games. She also had an extra-base hit in four of the contests. On Tuesday, Burke started the week with a three-for-four outing against Colorado Christian, with a double. She also had a three-for-five game against Northwestern Oklahoma with three runs batted in, a double and a home run. She hit .429 and had an amazing 1.190 slugging percentage. All but one of B. Busby’s hits was for extra bases, as she recorded three doubles, two triples, and three homeruns. She also scored eight times and walked twice. B. Busby is hitting .368 with 12 RBI on the season. Roxy Chapa, Texas A&M University-Kingsville, 2016 All-American picked up from where she left off last season. After ending the previous year with an 11-game hitting streak, she extended the streak to 14 in the next three games, including a three-hit performance in the 6-3 win against Northwestern Oklahoma State University. Overall last weekend, Chapa leads the team a .400 batting average, six hits and two doubles. The sophomore is tied with a team- best three RBIs. Lauren Lindgren, Midwestern State University, posted four multiple-hit performances in six outings last week to lead Midwestern State to a 5-1 record at Mustangs Park. The Denton native led the Mustangs with eight hits including a pair of doubles and MSU’s first triple of the season while recording a team-best six runs and three stolen bases. Lindgren scored the game-winning runs against Oklahoma Panhandle State and Southwest Baptist (Mo.) and scored a pair of runs in wins over Colorado Mines and SBU. She also matched a season-best two RBI in wins over OPSU and Newman (Kan.). Erin Knox, Midwestern State University, allowed no runs in 12.0 innings of work in the circle to lead Midwestern State to a 5-1 record last week at Mustangs Park. The West native pitched a two-hit shutout against Oklahoma Panhandle State to begin the week with no extra-base hits in the complete game effort. At the MSU Round Robin, Knox and Tayler Jerrick combined for a shutout in the tournament opener against Colorado Mines with Knox striking out three while allowing four hits in 5.0 innings to earn the victory over the Orediggers. On the week, Knox limited opponents to a .150 batting average while allowing just one extra-base hit. Morgan Hill, Angelo State University, helped ASU to a 6-0 record not allowing a run in three appearances. The junior only allowed six hits in 9.1 innings pitched and struck out nine. The Salado native held opponents to a .188 batting average. Kilee Halbert, West Texas A&M University, continued to roll in the circle for the fourth ranked Lady Buffs as the junior tossed a pair of complete game shutouts to lead WT to an 11-0 start to the season. The Dalhart native went 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA as the LSC Preseason Pitcher of the Year allowed just seven hits in her 12.0 innings of work with two walks and seven strikeouts in the two shutouts to allow an opponent batting average of .171. Halbert allowed just three hits in the WT Invitational opener against Fort Lewis with five strikeouts followed by a four-hit shutout on Saturday against Chadron State in a run- rule victory as the Lady Buffs registered a 30-inning scoreless streak over the weekend. Haley Freyman, Tarleton State University, led the TexAnns to three of the four wins at the DFW Softball Bash by throwing three complete games - one being a shutout - and recording a 0.67 ERA to go with a 3-0 record in the circle. Freyman pitched 21 innings and gave up only two earned runs while striking out nine. Opponents hit .192 off Freyman in the three games. Freyman became the third TexAnn in school history with 50 pitching victories in her career when the TexAnns defeated Northwestern Oklahoma. Bethany Hines, Cameron University, led CU with four wins and a save during their seven game win streak last week. She compiled a 1.71 ERA with 15 LSC SOFTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP MAY 5-6 | NO. 1 SEED strikeouts over 28.2 innings pitched. Hines walked just five batters and gave up 24 hits in her five appearances. She also hit .435 and had seven RBI to help out her own cause. On the season, Hines is 6-2 with a 2.64 ERA. Abby Walker, Texas Woman’s University, went 2-1 for TWU at the North Texas Softball Bash. In her first appearance against the then-undefeated Lubbock Christian, the junior had a no-hitter throughout six innings and finished the game with three hits and 10 strikeouts, matching the highest single-game strikeout total from an LSC pitcher this season. Walker concluded the tournament with a one-hit shutout versus Oklahoma Panhandle comprised of eight strikeouts. The lone hit came on an infield single to lead off the game in which a Pioneer infielder tripped on a routine popup before Walker retired the last 14 batters. In 22.2 innings throughout the tournament, Walker struck out 25 batters and held the opponents to a .183 batting average. Kaylee Rogers, Eastern New Mexico University, appeared in four games for the Greyhounds last week, and earned wins over Colorado Christian and Regis. Over 19.1 innings pitched, she allowed just three extra-base hits, with no homeruns. In the wins, she allowed just three and four hits, respectively. Cameron The Aggie softball team had a busy week last week as they went 7-0, sweeping a doubleheader with Southeastern Oklahoma early in the week and then winning all five of their games at the WT Lady Buff Invite on Friday and Saturday. In the circle, Bethany Hines went 4-0 with one save, giving up seven earned runs while striking out 15 in 28.2 innings. Callie Busby led CU with 11 hits and 10 runs over the seven game span, while her sister, Brenna Busby, led the Aggies with 10 RBI. Eastern New Mexico The Eastern New Mexico softball team had a busy week with seven games. Over that span, the Hounds picked up wins over Colorado Christian, Regis, and Northwestern Oklahoma State. ENMU wrapped up the week with a wild rally from an eight-run deficit against Colorado Christian to tie the game, before falling 9-8 in the seventh. Kaylee Rogers picked up two of the Greyhounds victories in the circle, while Alyssa Lovato also notched a win. Erikka Burke and Kylee Keller both hit over .400 for Eastern and combined for seven RBIs. This week, the Hounds will host New Mexico Highlands on Wednesday for a non- conference doubleheader, before heading to Western New Mexico to open LSC play. Midwestern State Midwestern State posted a 5-1 record last week at home to improve to 6-6 on the season with a doubleheader sweep against Oklahoma Panhandle State and a 3-1 record at the MSU Round Robin. The Mustangs tallied three shutouts last week and four wins over South Central Region opponents. MSU will play host to UT Permian Basin in its Lone Star Conference opening series this weekend at Mustangs Park with a doubleheader Friday beginning at 4 p.m. and a single game Saturday at 1 p.m. Tarleton State Tarleton went 4-2 on the weekend at the DFW Softball Bash in Grand Prairie. Texas A&M-Commerce The Lions finished 4-1 last weekend at the NFCA Leadoff Classic in Florida. The Lions knocked off No. 17 Saint Leo and their only loss came to No. 13 Valdosta State. Two Lions hit over .500 and six hit at least .333. The team as a whole hit .315 while the Lion bullpen held opponents to a .250 batting average. The Lions averaged four runs per game while holding opponents to under three runs a game. Ten different Lions crossed home plate and eight different players recorded at least one RBI. The Lions also stole six bases and struck out just 10 times while striking out 26 opposing batters. The Lions open up conference action this weekend with a three-game series on the road against Tarleton State. The Lions then have their home opener against St. Mary’s on Feb. 25. Texas A&M-Kingsville The Javelinas opened the 2017 season at the North Texas Softball Bash where they finished with a 3-2 record. The Hogs will head to Angelo State this weekend to began conference play. Texas Woman’s TWU went 3-3 at the North Texas Softball Bash over the weekend, concluding with three straight wins over Regis, Northwestern Oklahoma and Oklahoma Panhandle. UT Permian Basin 1-4 last week. West Texas A&M The fourth ranked Lady Buffs continued to roll this past weekend as they outscored their opponents 55-4 during the 2017 WT Invitational with wins over Fort Lewis, Washburn (twice), Chadron State, Missouri Southern and Fort Hays State to improve to 11-0 overall. The Lady Buffs held opponents scoreless for 26 consecutive innings to begin the event and tossed four shutouts to outscore their opponents 55-4. The WT offense hit .421 on the weekend with 14 doubles, three triples and 11 homeruns to drive in 51 RBI with 109 total bases for a slugging percentage of .820. WT hits the road this weekend as they travel to Tucson, Arizona to take part in the 2017 Cactus Classic at Lincoln Park. WT is scheduled to take on the University of Mary, Academy of Art, Lincoln Memorial and Dixie State (twice). Western New Mexico WNMU came close in several games this past week, playing Hawaii-Hilo twice and four games at the DSU Easton Classic. Outside of Linzy Granger’s big offensive week, Bailey McFarland, Mariangela Garcia and Lacy Granger all hit over .300. Garcia tallied three doubles and Ariana Maldonado had the first home run of the season for the Lady Mustangs against #14 Central Washington. Domi Shone logged the most innings with 22 innings and had a 5.73 ERA. Thailia O’Neill was strong against CSU-Pueblo tossing a complete game 7.1 innings and allowing just three earned runs.
