LSC SOFTBALL
West Texas A&M continues to roll with a perfect 28-0 overall record including a 12-0 mark in Lone Star
Conference action.
LSC teams are playing a single round-robin schedule with a four games against each league opponent. The
four-game series shall consist of a doubleheader Friday and a doubleheader Saturday.
The overall LSC Champion will be the team(s) with the best winning percentage in regular-season conference
games, while the winner of the postseason championship will be recognized as LSC Tournament Champion and
receive the league’s automatic qualification into NCAA postseason. The single-elimination championship will
be played April 29-30, at the No. 1 seed.
LSC softball teams are 151-93 overall this season. In the NCAA South Central Region, the group is currently 39-
22 combined versus Heartland Conference teams and 30-11 against the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
HITTER
Luci Ponce, Texas A&M University - Commerce, SR, 1B, San Jose, Calif., Overfelt HS
Ponce provided the power for the Lions during a 3-1 series win over Eastern New Mexico. Ponce knocked in
12 RBI on the week thanks to a five home run performance. She smashed at least one bomb in every game
terrorizing the Greyhound pitching staff. She opened the weekend with a 1-for-4 are including a two-run home
run. She followed with a three hits in four trips to the plate in the second game of the series. She also drove
in four RBI and smacked her second bomb of the weekend. In game three, Ponce left the yard twice. She went
3-for-5 at the dish with three RBI and two home runs. Capping the weekend off, Ponce drove in another three
runs with her fifth homer of the series in a 1-for-4 weekend.
PITCHER
Tori Bayer, West Texas A&M University, SR, Pitcher, Floresville, Texas, Floresville HS
Bayer continued to shine in the circle for the top ranked Lady Buffs this past weekend as the senior right-hander
tossed 7.2 scoreless innings of relief in three contests to pick up a pair of wins along with a save with a 0.00 ERA
against #22 Angelo State. The Floresville, Texas moved to 8-0 on the season to go along with her league leading
fourth save of the season. Bayer picked up wins in game two and four with her save coming in game three
during an LSC weekend sweep of the rival #22 Belles. She allowed just six hits with two walks and six strikeouts
in her 7.2 innings of work with an opposing batting average of .231.
OTHER TOP PERFORMERS
Laura Mabary, Texas Woman’s University, led the Pioneers with a .625 batting average, 1.125 slugging
percentage and four RBI. She went 4-for-4 with three RBI in the first game against Midwestern State and went
1-for-4 with RBI in the second game. With the game tied at 4-4 in the sixth Mabary drove in the go ahead RBI
for a 6-4 win in the first game of the doubleheader.
Kyra Sirag, Eastern New Mexico University, paced the Greyhounds in runs (4), hits (8), triples (2), runs batted
in (4), slugging (1.154), and on-base percentage (.615) against A&M-C. Her performance improved as the series
progressed, as she batted .750 with a 1.625 slugging percentage over the final two contests. In Eastern’s win,
she just missed the cycle by a double, and drove in four runs. Sirag had a two-run triple in the bottom of the
sixth inning, and caught the potential game-tying run in a steal attempt at third base, to end the game.
Breezy McComas, Cameron University, batted 8-for-15 (.533) at the plate for the Aggies on the road at Texas
A&M-Kingsville. The Aggies junior had a double and multi-hits in the first three games of the series. In 9-0
blowout, McComas had three RBI against TAMUK, and in the nightcap she provided CU the go-ahead run in the
top of the seventh to salvage a road split. Through 24 games this season, McComas is batting .432 at the plate,
with eight doubles, and six homers.
Kourtney Coveney, West Texas A&M University, had another big weekend for the unbeaten Lady Buffs as the
freshman hit .444 with a double and a home run to drive in four RBI for a slugging percentage of .889. The Katy,
Texas native drove in four runs during a 9-1 run-rule win over the rival #22 Belles of Angelo State in game three.
Emily Wasinger, Cameron University, pitched in three games for the Aggies with back-to-back wins on
Sunday. In 16 innings of work the Aggie junior had a 0.88 ERA, with ten strikeouts, and two complete games
against Texas A&M-Kingsville. She didn’t allow a homer and held TAMUK to a .211 batting average when she
pitched. So far this season, Wasinger is 10-2 and has a 2.44 ERA for the Aggies.
Karri Smith, Texas A&M University-Kingsville, tossed a complete game Saturday in a 6-3 victory over the
Aggies... one day later, she came out of the bullpen to throw 6.0 innings and allow two unearned runs... the
senior is 2-4 with a 3.73 ERA in 2016.
Selena Rima, Texas A&M University-Commerce, picked up two of the four Lion wins on the weekend
including a complete game shutout against the Greyhounds. Rima delivered for the Lions in the circle with
complete game shutout in an 8-0 win. She allowed just three hits while striking out four. Her second win of the
weekend came in relief when she worked five and thirds innings to preserve a 14-6 Lion win.

Last weekend, ENMU hosted one of the most powerful offensive teams in the Lone Star Conference in Texas
A&M-Commerce. Currently, the Lions lead the league in stolen bases and trail only top-ranked West Texas A&M
in runs scored and runs batted in. In the series finale, ENMU rallied used a two-run triple from Kyra Sirag and
a strong pitching performance from Erikka Burke, to claim a win. Sirag batted .615 over the four games with
two triples, a homer, and four RBIs. Susannah Chandler hit .462 and had her first multi-home run game. This
weekend, the Greyhounds will visit Cameron.

Texas A&M-Kingsville
Texas A&M-Kingsville split its season series versus #RV Cameron University, taking the first two games 3-0
and 6-3... Alexei Gonzalez went 4-of-10 in her first series in a Javelina uniform... the Javelinas host Oklahoma
Christian Monday before heading to St. Mary’s Wednesday and hosting Lubbock Christian Friday and Saturday.
Texas Woman’s
TWU is 15-9 on the season and 4-2 in the Lone Star Conference after splitting the doubleheader on Sunday
against Midwestern State. The Pioneers captured a 6-4 win in game one before dropping a 7-6 decision in the
second. Senior Laura Mabary led the team on offense with a .625 batting average, 1.125 slugging percentage
and four RBI. She went 4-for-4 with three RBI in game one victory. Junior Tori Bice captured the win in the circle
while junior Hailey Dixon recorded the save. On the season senior Tealey Farquhar is the team leader with a
.410 batting average, six doubles and 18 stolen bases. Junior Nicole Nordie has a team-best 18 RBI and Bice
leads the pitching staff with an 11-5 record, 2.20 ERA and 58 strikeouts.
West Texas A&M
The top ranked and undefeated Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M continue to roll thru Lone Star Conference play
this past weekend as they registered a sweep of the rival #22 Belles of Angelo State at Schaeffer Park in Canyon.
The Lady Buffs hit .268 as a team on the weekend with six doubles and six home runs to drive in 16 RBI and
outscore the Belles 16-5. The WT pitching staff registered an impressive 1.30 ERA in the four-game series with
25 strikeouts and an opposing batting average of .240 on the weekend. Allie Smith and Kourtney Coveney both
hit .444 on the weekend while Tori Bayer went 2-0 in the circle with a save. The Lady Buffs continue the best
start to a season in program history as they improved to 28-0 with a perfect 12-0 mark in LSC play to sit atop
of the league standings. WT hits the road for a Spring Break road trip starting on Wednesday afternoon with a
doubleheader in Austin, Texas against St. Edward’s with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m. followed by a four-game
Lone Star Conference series against Texas A&M-Commerce on Friday and Saturday at the John Cain Family
Softball Complex in Commerce.
