3. Research
ā¢ Looking back on my research there were a few strengths and weaknesses of
which I shall discuss here, firstly I feel like I instantly knew what I wanted to
talk about on my āradioā show as my hobbies include playing games, so for me
it wasnāt hard to do research into that topic as I already knew a lot about it,
this helped a lot as I was able to find the things I needed to research quickly,
so research was an easy thing for this project, and because I knew a lot about
the topic I was pursuing I didnāt need to do much more research to be able to
understand it or be able to fully grasp it and be able to make a product with
the info.
ā¢ There were however some weaknesses among the strength, one big one being
that because I picked what I was going to do so quickly I didnāt explore other
options enough and so I didnāt really step out of my comfort zone for this
project, also I donāt think I had enough time to carefully research my ideas
therefore maybe my project didnāt have that much content in the end because
of this, If Iād of had more time I reckon I could have put more research in and
therefore had a better end product.
4. Planning
ā¢ Planning is the key part of any project, without it you will be working in
the dark and going in blind, so this is why you must plan and this was no
exception in this project, I had a solid bit of planning on how I would make
the podcast and how I would put it all together with itās songs and other
media, I had an advantage with my planning as Iāve done this kind of thing
before which gave me experience and so I was already extremely
comfortable with the whole topic, this helped me incredibly as I could get
a lot of planning done in a fairly quick time.
ā¢ There were weaknesses however as with every strength comes a
weakness, one of them was that I didnāt spend enough time researching
the actual project, I did it a bit fast and possibly rushed it a little, if I had
more time I think my project could have been a whole lot better overall, I
was ill during the planning also so this stunted my work a little but I did
manage to catch up in the end, If I hadnāt of been ill I could have done a
lot more work in my opinion.
5. Time Management
ā¢ In my opinion I would have to say that my time was managed decently
well, this is because I actually managed to get the project handed in on
time, the research, planning, product experiments and other parts of the
process were all also handed in on time, however I do believe that I was
rushed to complete the product for the deadline, if I had more time then I
definitely do believe that my work could have been made to a much
higher standard.
ā¢ If I had of had more time available I would have gone through the whole
twelve minutes of my podcast adding in sound effects appropriate to the
moments, this would have had a great effect on my work as it would have
made the product be definitely a whole lot more professional in all sectors
and this would have it feel and sound better.
6. Technical Qualities
My product is a podcast recorded on a DR-05 and then imported onto
Audition on the computer, it is about gaming and other media related things,
from getting it on the computer I added songs and other parts to it to make it
feel more like an actual podcast, this all fit together fairly well and so it just
worked, in a few ways it is similar to the yogpod as we talk about games and
so do they in a few episodes, but the difference is they talk about other
random things thatās happened in their day whereas we talk about strictly
games.
The Yogpod features two hosts, Simon and Lewis, they are both from England
and are avid gamers, they talk about games and other random things that has
happened in their everyday lives, this is actually very similar to my podcast as
we have two English talkers who are avid gamers, but the big difference here
is that the hosts of the yogpod are not the same age as us infact they are in
their thirties.
7. Aural Qualities
ā¢ In a podcast audio is the main thing you will have to focus on as there is no
visual part of a podcast, so I picked out some good sounding songs that
are not copy righted, these were then placed into the audition file and
carefully faded in and out so it sounded more professional, I believe audio
is probably the most important thing in any media product, if there is no
sound then itās not very interesting, I believe my work wasnāt exactly
creative in the music I put into the file as it isnāt that new or fancy, but it
works together and I believe thatās what matters in the end, I like the
songs I used in my blog, I believe theyāre good songs to have in the
background of a video about discussing games and thatās why I chose
them, in respects to audio, all Iād have to say is maybe itās a bit too simple
or maybe there arenāt enough separate audio files in the podcast, and if
there was I think it would have been much better as a whole, I would ass
more sound effects to flesh the product out.
8. Audience Appeal
With this product I was trying to appeal to people over the age of fourteen as this for me is
the age when maturity starts, so people if they do make comments on the video would have
decent feed back and not just mindless fanboying which does happen a lot on the web, I was
also mostly aiming for males as the majority of gamers are male, but females are obviously
welcome to watch as I am not sexist, this particular video would be aimed towards fans of Call
of Duty and Battlefield one as these are the games we were talking about in this video, I feel
like in this video I have appealed more to the battlefield fans however as I believe battlefield
to definitely be the better game between the two, Call of Duty Infinite warfare fans may get
slightly irritated by this but I was only trying to be honest and I feel like I succeeded in this, I
think the part where I talk about Battlefield will be the part that people will like the most as
itās the part thatās the most positive about a game, I call Battlefield āStunningā and āAmazingā.
I think most of the people that would listen to the podcast would appreciate the music I chose
as theyāre decently popular tracks used by various youtubers and so theyāre familiar and this
could be a good thing but might also be a bad thing, but I hope people might feel welcome
and possibly at home if they have heard a song they know well.
10. Feedback 1
ā¢ What did you like about the product?
ā āI like the fact that theyāre comparing two of the
biggest FPSās at the current time, although itās
something done quite a lot itās nice to see a view that
isnāt constantly praising Call of Dutyā
ā¢ What improvements could have been made to
the product?
- āI think maybe they could have been a bit more
creative with the audio used but I did enjoy the
songsā.
11. Feedback 2
ā¢ What did you like about the product?
ā āI really liked listening to the music, as I know
those songs well and actually really like them, so it
was nice to have something familiarā.
ā¢ What improvements could have been made to
the product?
ā āMaybe add a third party to diversify the whole
comparison a bit more, this would have added
another level of intrigueā.
12. Feedback 3
ā¢ What did you like about the product?
ā āIt was fun hearing them bashing games which I
hate, (Call of Duty), most people usually rate those
games really high and donāt seem to critique them
at allā
ā¢ What improvements could have been made to
the product?
ā āI wish they were a bit more harsh on Call of Duty
and Battlefield, they were too nice!ā.
13. Peer Feedback Summary
ā¢ What do you agree with from your peer feedback?
ā I agree that maybe we should have diversified it a bit more by adding another game to
the comparison to make it possibly more interesting, I think that looking back just Call of
Duty and Battlefield being compared could be a bit old now, so maybe if I had added the
new Halo we could have had something new and fun, I would also agree that maybe we
could have a bit more audio included, this would have made the podcast more
interesting and more bearable for the listeners, It is also always true that sometimes
being honest about a game is the best option, I feel like you shouldnāt sugar coat things
and let companies get away with making lazy games.
ā¢ What do you disagree with from your peer feedback?
ā I would have to say that to intentionally bash a game when itās not needed would be foolish
however because that would not be reviewing or comparing it would simply just be hating on
the game while having no substance behind the claims, this would make me look
unprofessional and I do not want to do this.
14. Peer Feedback Summary
If Iām honest there are a lot of things I would go back and change, the first one being that I
should have had better audio, i.e I should have had more sound effects and other such
things, this would have fleshed the piece out as a whole and made it more enjoyable to
listen to, I feel like with a podcast this is incredibly important and would make it ten times
better, I thing my audio on mine was potentially a bit simple so it definitely needed a bit
more fleshing out to improve it as a whole, the next thing Iād improve would have to be that
Iād add another game to the comparison to change things up a little bit, adding a third party
would make everything a bit more diverse and so would really make it different to other
videos comparing games, as most are literally just two games, I would also talk more about
the similarities of the games instead of talking about why they are so different which is what
I did in this podcast.
I would definitely do this because it would be more interesting to listen to and I feel that if
itās interesting then more people will listen to it, this would also allow for more options in
audio and allow me to make a more professional podcast.
