Louis Dodds-Rodgers
Production Process Evaluation
Research
One strength of my research is that it gave me a lot to talk about in my final
podcast. My research helped me produce my final product because by looking
into various other podcasts I discovered the type of podcast I wanted to do
and the genre. Another strength of my research is that I decided to look up
different ways to record a podcast this influenced my final piece because I
made the decision to go to a quiet and sound proof room for the best audio
quality making my project clearer and more aesthetically pleasing.
A weakness of my research was the fact the first time we went to record we
did not consider what would be used to record the podcast and the first time
recording we did a full ten minutes of audio and as I transferred it over to my
pc and it didn’t record the full amount which delayed the process of editing
and production. To do it better I would have recorded one my phone like I did
on my final attempt because it was straight forward and the audio quality is
good. This would have saved a lot of time and effort meaning I could have had
longer to work on my editing or my evaluation.
Planning
• One strength of my planning was the fact I planned for an error margin for my end product,
that error being that the first time we recorded it stopped almost straight away after us
making conversation for the podcast for ten minutes, to come over this task the next time we
recorded we used the video recorder on our phones and later in editing separated the audio
from video.
• Another strength of my planning is the fact I decided to use royalty free music as and intro
and outro this planning helped me avoid any copyright infringement meaning my product can
be monetized.
• A weakness of my planning was the fact I did not plan for any file loss as I lost some of my
power points which set me back a week, pushing back my production time and effecting
production quality. To prevent this I could have backed up the files on my USB and made sure
it was ejected properly before removing it and playing around with my computers parts. If I
prevented this from happening I would have saved more time on my final production
hopefully making it of a better quality in the end.
• One more mistake I made was not adding more sound effects and music to my podcast to
maintain listeners attention because at points people featured on my podcast begin to
ramble this could put other listeners off. To improve this I could have cut more out in editing
easily. This would have had a positive effect on my product because it will interest listeners
more meaning more attention towards my product and it would have also made up for some
time and I could have fitted more conversation into my audio which was previously cut out.
Time Management
• I believe I managed my time efficiently due to the fact I managed to finish
all my planning and pre production in time to pay enough attention to my
final product. I completed my project on time but I believe with some
extra time I would have been able to improve it quite significantly. Due to
my product having a set back because of an audio recording issue so if I
had time to make up for this I could have improved my end podcast in
several areas one of which being the audio quality as it was sacrificed
because of the guest being on the phone but with some extra time I could
have used adobe premiere pro to edit the audio quality and improve it
meaning the product may have more attention.
• If I had more time to complete my final project I would have originally
used it to add more conversation into my podcast as at some points there
is not much speaking where I could have cut out any silence or stuttering
and made room for more conversation making my podcast longer and
more accessible.
Technical Qualities
• I originally compared my product to that of Joe Rogan and
his podcast compared to other similar products I have
researched such as StarTalk due to the fact Joe’s podcast is
a lot less professional and includes more speculation and
ideas compared to facts at times which is one similarity to
my podcast as it is mostly speculation and conspiracy
theories meaning not all of it is factual.
• Another similarity to this existing product is the fact we
managed to have a flowing conspiracy conversation
speaking on matters which some people will disagree with
and some will agree meaning there will be more positive
conflict intriguing more of an audience to my podcast.
Aural Qualities
• In my final finished product the audio quality of my podcast was good but I would have liked to improve it
because it was still a bit fuzzy due to the fact one of the podcasters was speaking through the phone
meaning the potential quality was compromised. Another issue with the aural quality of my podcast was
the background noise and how I failed to edit them out in the final process which I could have improved by
putting it into audacity and editing out the noise in the background using noise compression.
• I believe my work was creative because of the topic I chose to speak on and the views that were given in
response as well as the sound effects and royalty music used too which impacts the aural qualities
positively in my opinion.
• If I were to improve my final piece I would begin by getting my guest podcaster in real life compared to
over the phone which would positively impact the audio quality and also flow of conversation due to the
room we recorded in didn’t have a strong signal which meant the conversation through the phone was not
as fluent as I would’ve originally liked.
• A strength of the audio quality is the quality of the mp3 itself is very loud and clear making the podcast
easy to listen to rather than it being quiet and distorted meaning the listeners will be more likely to return
for high quality content.
• Another strength of my end product is that it includes almost everything I set out for it to include such as
sound effects, intro and outro music with audio effects added onto them and we spoke about the topics
for the previously discussed amount of time meaning I stuck to my planning and it effected my end
product positively.
• One weakness of my work is the fact the audio quality wasn’t as professional as I would have originally
liked it to be this is because I did not have a chance to try and make it clearer in audacity which impacted
my project.
• One other weakness regarding the aural qualities of my work is the professionalism of the conversation as
it includes parts where we all laugh which may make it seem less professional as well as the fact Louis was
quite quiet when he was adding to the conversations and topics whereas Kyle who was speaking through
my phone was significantly louder making the quality seem lower and the professionalism.
Audience Appeal
I have appealed to my target audience of 12+ by removing any swear
language from the podcast making it more accessible for the younger
audiences and also monetizable which would generate income. Another
way I appealed to my audiences gender is I made the podcast all inclusive
by keeping the topics open and non-stereotypical so no gender feels
discouraged to watch making the podcast inclusive to all. I fit the
psychographic of my audience by making it appeal to their interests I did
this by; including recently spoke about events and call backs to other
podcasts which will bring people from other channels over adding a larger
audience bringing the podcast more recognition. It also appeals to the
correct social class because of the fact it will be published for free on
YouTube which means its free to stream and Spotify which is a paid
streaming service but by having my product published on these sites it
make sit more accessible compared to just having it one site. The only
downside to having my podcast on just streaming sites is the fact that to
stream it the viewer will need to have a recent smartphone or tablet with
a connection to the internet which could exclude some potential listeners.
Peer
Feedback
Feedback 1
• What did you like about the product?
– There was an added special guest giving it more
appeal.
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
– The audio quality was compromised due to the special
guest coming into the podcast on the phone.
– I could’ve fixed this later in editing through audio
improvement on adobe premiere.
Feedback 2
• What did you like about the product?
– I liked the conversation topic as it was enticing and kept
me on my toes with anticipation.
• What improvements could have been made to the
product?
– One improvement could have been editing out any
laughter or stuttering because it impacted the realism and
professionalism of the podcast.
– I could have fixed this issue in premiere pro by cutting
parts which were not needed in more detail which would
give the podcast more runtime too if I replaced it with
some unadded conversation.
Feedback 3
• What did you like about the product?
- I enjoyed the opening and ending music
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
– More music added throughout the podcast as a
backing track and adding some extra sound effects
for comedic effect
Peer Feedback Summary
• What do you agree with from your peer feedback?
• I agree with all of my peer back because it is my peers
who will be listening to it as they are all in my target
demographic so I would like to make it appeal to them
as much as possible.
• What do you disagree with from your peer feedback?
• I don’t disagree with any feedback because I would like
to adjust my podcast accordingly with the feedback of
my listeners.
Peer Feedback Summary
Taking my peer feedback into account I would consider changing a few
things one of which being the amount of non-diegetic audio such as
more music into the intro and a different backing outro along with some
more sound effects my reasoning for this is the fact my podcast is quite
vanilla because it doesn’t include much non-diegetic sounds making it
come across as either too plain or boring.
Another change I would make to my podcast is editing out more of the
unneeded sounds such as laughter because it makes the podcast appear
as unprofessional and can also impact the realism of it taking the
listeners out of their involvement with my podcast. I would achieve
correcting this by taking more time in adobe premiere and zooming in
further with more precision and paying more attention to the factors of
the unprofessionalism.

Another strength of my research is that I decided to look up different ways to record a podcast this influenced my final piece because I made the decision to go to a quiet and sound proof room for the best audio quality making my project clearer and more aesthetically pleasing. A weakness of my research was the fact the first time we went to record we did not consider what would be used to record the podcast and the first time recording we did a full ten minutes of audio and as I transferred it over to my pc and it didn’t record the full amount which delayed the process of editing and production. To do it better I would have recorded one my phone like I did on my final attempt because it was straight forward and the audio quality is good. This would have saved a lot of time and effort meaning I could have had longer to work on my editing or my evaluation.
  • 4. Planning • One strength of my planning was the fact I planned for an error margin for my end product, that error being that the first time we recorded it stopped almost straight away after us making conversation for the podcast for ten minutes, to come over this task the next time we recorded we used the video recorder on our phones and later in editing separated the audio from video. • Another strength of my planning is the fact I decided to use royalty free music as and intro and outro this planning helped me avoid any copyright infringement meaning my product can be monetized. • A weakness of my planning was the fact I did not plan for any file loss as I lost some of my power points which set me back a week, pushing back my production time and effecting production quality. To prevent this I could have backed up the files on my USB and made sure it was ejected properly before removing it and playing around with my computers parts. If I prevented this from happening I would have saved more time on my final production hopefully making it of a better quality in the end. • One more mistake I made was not adding more sound effects and music to my podcast to maintain listeners attention because at points people featured on my podcast begin to ramble this could put other listeners off. To improve this I could have cut more out in editing easily. This would have had a positive effect on my product because it will interest listeners more meaning more attention towards my product and it would have also made up for some time and I could have fitted more conversation into my audio which was previously cut out.
  • 5. Time Management • I believe I managed my time efficiently due to the fact I managed to finish all my planning and pre production in time to pay enough attention to my final product. I completed my project on time but I believe with some extra time I would have been able to improve it quite significantly. Due to my product having a set back because of an audio recording issue so if I had time to make up for this I could have improved my end podcast in several areas one of which being the audio quality as it was sacrificed because of the guest being on the phone but with some extra time I could have used adobe premiere pro to edit the audio quality and improve it meaning the product may have more attention. • If I had more time to complete my final project I would have originally used it to add more conversation into my podcast as at some points there is not much speaking where I could have cut out any silence or stuttering and made room for more conversation making my podcast longer and more accessible.
  • 6. Technical Qualities • I originally compared my product to that of Joe Rogan and his podcast compared to other similar products I have researched such as StarTalk due to the fact Joe’s podcast is a lot less professional and includes more speculation and ideas compared to facts at times which is one similarity to my podcast as it is mostly speculation and conspiracy theories meaning not all of it is factual. • Another similarity to this existing product is the fact we managed to have a flowing conspiracy conversation speaking on matters which some people will disagree with and some will agree meaning there will be more positive conflict intriguing more of an audience to my podcast.
  • 7. Aural Qualities • In my final finished product the audio quality of my podcast was good but I would have liked to improve it because it was still a bit fuzzy due to the fact one of the podcasters was speaking through the phone meaning the potential quality was compromised. Another issue with the aural quality of my podcast was the background noise and how I failed to edit them out in the final process which I could have improved by putting it into audacity and editing out the noise in the background using noise compression. • I believe my work was creative because of the topic I chose to speak on and the views that were given in response as well as the sound effects and royalty music used too which impacts the aural qualities positively in my opinion. • If I were to improve my final piece I would begin by getting my guest podcaster in real life compared to over the phone which would positively impact the audio quality and also flow of conversation due to the room we recorded in didn’t have a strong signal which meant the conversation through the phone was not as fluent as I would’ve originally liked. • A strength of the audio quality is the quality of the mp3 itself is very loud and clear making the podcast easy to listen to rather than it being quiet and distorted meaning the listeners will be more likely to return for high quality content. • Another strength of my end product is that it includes almost everything I set out for it to include such as sound effects, intro and outro music with audio effects added onto them and we spoke about the topics for the previously discussed amount of time meaning I stuck to my planning and it effected my end product positively. • One weakness of my work is the fact the audio quality wasn’t as professional as I would have originally liked it to be this is because I did not have a chance to try and make it clearer in audacity which impacted my project. • One other weakness regarding the aural qualities of my work is the professionalism of the conversation as it includes parts where we all laugh which may make it seem less professional as well as the fact Louis was quite quiet when he was adding to the conversations and topics whereas Kyle who was speaking through my phone was significantly louder making the quality seem lower and the professionalism.
  • 8. Audience Appeal I have appealed to my target audience of 12+ by removing any swear language from the podcast making it more accessible for the younger audiences and also monetizable which would generate income. Another way I appealed to my audiences gender is I made the podcast all inclusive by keeping the topics open and non-stereotypical so no gender feels discouraged to watch making the podcast inclusive to all. I fit the psychographic of my audience by making it appeal to their interests I did this by; including recently spoke about events and call backs to other podcasts which will bring people from other channels over adding a larger audience bringing the podcast more recognition. It also appeals to the correct social class because of the fact it will be published for free on YouTube which means its free to stream and Spotify which is a paid streaming service but by having my product published on these sites it make sit more accessible compared to just having it one site. The only downside to having my podcast on just streaming sites is the fact that to stream it the viewer will need to have a recent smartphone or tablet with a connection to the internet which could exclude some potential listeners.
  • 10. Feedback 1 • What did you like about the product? – There was an added special guest giving it more appeal. • What improvements could have been made to the product? – The audio quality was compromised due to the special guest coming into the podcast on the phone. – I could’ve fixed this later in editing through audio improvement on adobe premiere.
  • 11. Feedback 2 • What did you like about the product? – I liked the conversation topic as it was enticing and kept me on my toes with anticipation. • What improvements could have been made to the product? – One improvement could have been editing out any laughter or stuttering because it impacted the realism and professionalism of the podcast. – I could have fixed this issue in premiere pro by cutting parts which were not needed in more detail which would give the podcast more runtime too if I replaced it with some unadded conversation.
  • 12. Feedback 3 • What did you like about the product? - I enjoyed the opening and ending music • What improvements could have been made to the product? – More music added throughout the podcast as a backing track and adding some extra sound effects for comedic effect
  • 13. Peer Feedback Summary • What do you agree with from your peer feedback? • I agree with all of my peer back because it is my peers who will be listening to it as they are all in my target demographic so I would like to make it appeal to them as much as possible. • What do you disagree with from your peer feedback? • I don’t disagree with any feedback because I would like to adjust my podcast accordingly with the feedback of my listeners.
  • 14. Peer Feedback Summary Taking my peer feedback into account I would consider changing a few things one of which being the amount of non-diegetic audio such as more music into the intro and a different backing outro along with some more sound effects my reasoning for this is the fact my podcast is quite vanilla because it doesn’t include much non-diegetic sounds making it come across as either too plain or boring. Another change I would make to my podcast is editing out more of the unneeded sounds such as laughter because it makes the podcast appear as unprofessional and can also impact the realism of it taking the listeners out of their involvement with my podcast. I would achieve correcting this by taking more time in adobe premiere and zooming in further with more precision and paying more attention to the factors of the unprofessionalism.
