3. My research was a huge part of the project, In it I wrote about already existing games, my research was very productive and allowed
me to look at existing ideas so I could get designs and ideas to help me with the final production process in my final project. The
strengths of my research were creating existing products pages, for these I got a collection of images of similar products that I
wanted to make and see what made them good and attract an audience and I did this for each different product. I do not think I could
have changed anything to better my research it had everything included in and more and it was extremely detailed and understanding
so you could see clearly where I was heading with this project and it almost turned out how I wanted it. I used some really good
existing short films to help me carry through my idea and genre that I was going for. I learned that movies that were very similar too
my idea used lots of darker colours and that generally suits the genre of the movie so I would base my final product of off some of
these ideas, except id prefer to make mine unique and different which I think I have pulled off. My research also involved finding out
the small details which are relevant for selling any product, these include age range, gender and price range. This helped me so I
could choose weather or not to make it violent and dark or do the exact opposite. I did other means of research such as interviews, I
did two of these, these two interviews were 5 questions long. These questions helped me to understand what other people liked but
even if their opinions were different to mine I would still stick with what I wanted to make because some opinions can be biased. I
also did a survey and this was very short and simple but I got just the answered I wanted only to help me with my audience, to
improve I could've asked some more questions about genre specific topics. I took little ideas from the answers like the ages for my
film but all of these other ones didn’t help me towards my movie much in any way.
4. The planning was very helpful because it started with ideas for what I was going to make towards
the end of the project. My ideas were very well generated and it was a hard choice of picking
what I was going to choose to make for my final short film. In the end the choice I went with was a
thriller movie with a time loop, death and a masked man, I chose this because I really liked
certain aspects of this idea and thought that it would be easiest to make and it did come out very
well. These ideas were generated through a mind map on the website bubbl.Us, this website was
very useful in the making for my project however I didn’t go into greater detail in these maps
which I could have done for improvement but I already felt that I had explored the idea enough for
understanding. As well as mind maps I also created a mood board, which was a major strength
for me, the mood board was a collection of images which I gathered for a purpose, that purpose
was to get ideas and influence my final product and that it did, with this I had then decided on
which film idea to go with because up until that point I was undecided and it also gave me a
vague idea of how I wanted the video to play out. I generated many ideas using mind maps that
went into detail about specific things and lots of ideas which I wasn’t going to carry some of them
through, so I decided on that when I made my mood board by getting certain props, locations and
camera angles. I got a collection of images of the different products I could create and chose
these because they look great and I wanted them to inspire my video. I think that I could not
change much on my planning PowerPoint, it is as good as it can be and I would not change it. My
planning set the stone for this project and allowed me to carry my idea through to come out with a
decent product.
5. My time was managed very well because I handed everything in on
time with it all complete and nothing to change except for the
exception of my production, mainly because this was a huge project.
To make sure everything ran smoothly I had a time schedule and I
stuck to this time schedule very well. I didn’t miss out on anything
important, plus I got all work in on time. My time was managed good
but if I had more time I would have changed it because it isn't exactly
what I wanted it to look like. I was on time for every deadline and
sometimes finished my work before which gave me a bit of time to
look at what I wrote and if it was good enough for a distinction. This
is a table that I had made earlier on in the project before going on to
production and this was a great guideline and I stuck too it well and
followed it. If I had more time then I would have probably ended up
getting some more shots for the story and taking out the errors and
continuity error. I think the product I made was great but of course
there is always time for improvements so if I had more time I would
have just tried to make it look even better even though it looks good
now. This table isn't right because I actually had 2 weeks for making
the film because it was such a big project, so if I got any extra time
then I just filled it up with writing PowerPoint's leaving me with a
large amount of work for my project, which consisted of 1min 20
seconds long video. I only just finished my film together at last
second because my sounds needed to be added a second time after
all of the files got corrupted and didn’t work, this sound of course
would draw in the audience because it backed up the images. I also
had a problem whilst writing up a page on my production reflection
where my computer crashed but luckily I save regularly so it didn’t
set me back that much just about half a slide.
6. My shot of the man in the mask is very good and
useful towards my film it is not like the existing one
which is very dark and creates a sense of despair
which is more thriller/horror like but mine still works
fairly well. The character is center of the camera and
the background is very bright that it is out of focus
unlike the foreground.
Both of the underpasses give of the same
vibe, they both suit the thriller genre well.
The whole setting makes sense and the
shadows work, although mine is shot in the
day I still feel that it brings across the same
amount of effect in the darkness and I can
just change it and make it darker in editing
anyway.
This shot was a continuity error
which appeared in my film and if I
had more time I would have gone
back and changed it, to make my
video run through so smoothly.
The lighting in my film was very
important and I tried to get just the
right amount of contrast but due to
the darkness of the camera it made
the video a bit distorted on 1 or 2 of
my shots which i would have had to
change later on.

ap.com/tags/thriller
The sounds in movies are very important
because they add that extra bit of detail and
depth, mine for example creates that extra
layer of mystery.
My sound effects are very simple and
only include sounds such as footsteps
and a gunshot. These however have an
extra layer of editing on them making
them echo allowing the movie to be
more realistic
Yes the sound of my audio project is good. All of the sound effects and speaking go in a great order that all
makes sense. Both of these podcasts include a song throughout which is good because it gives a movie a
different feel, mine plays the same tune throughout which makes it more interesting and allows it too not end up
boring. I tried to take most aspects from this movie because I think it is the best one that really relates too mine
which is why I included an opinion even if it was just a short saying, it was still in there. The only main difference
is that my audio does not have two people talking its just one whereas the existing one does but not all the time
only later on. The trailer is included in both and this is because then the audience know specifically exactly what
they are going to be watching. The final thing too mention is the time, mine is just 1 min 10 seconds whereas
the other one is 5 minutes, 60-90 seconds that is the requirement but if I could have it would easily just be as
long, I cut it short for the audiences point of view as too not make it boring and keep the story short.
8. My editing took a week for making and it didn't’ turn out how I
really wanted it but I think that the way it came out was good
and sort of what I was aiming for from the beginning when I first
started planning. The purple bars which are at the top of mine
put all video effects into the videos that fall underneath them.
The editing of my video compared with this existing one is
very similar, in them we both use the three colour correction
wheel and have many different video clips all cut and placed
together in a sequence, which is what bring the whole video
together. The audio is just an extra and I would say that
mine is better because I have got more sounds and put
more work into it because with more sounds it pulls off
better effects and makes the video more realistic.
This video does not appear to have any editing
over the top of it at all unlike mine which I think
that adding the editing can make even the best of
looking shots even better
9. My opinion is that my work looks good and I like my colour
contrast and layout for my short film. It is an original movie and
the thriller genre really suits the visuals, they match well to make
the movie appear much more spooky and dark. This was
creative and unique unlike anything else I have really ever
created, especially since because I had never done film before..
They both seem to use
much darker colour
schemes. This works well for
both movies however the
existing movie looks as
though it switches between
day and night because of
the colour and props so it is
not leaning more towards a
thriller/horror whereas my
colour consistency stays the
same throughout.
This has an bar at the bottom and
top which has the effect of making
the shots look more cinematic
which as a whole makes my short
movie so much better. I was never
actually planning on this but I had
never made it before and the
teacher helped me with this.
The only aesthetical quality which some people may not appreciate
is the brightness of the movie this is because some people may not
be able to see the screen as well due to visual impairments.
My strengths for this topic were making it look more thriller/mystery like so I have still
stuck to the original genre that I intended to use. I thought that my movie looked fantastic
and I would not really change it in any way possible, I think that it is different from other
movies and it is really appealing to attract a certain audience. If I were going to change
anything I would not make the camera shot as rough, I would have a black outline
around the whole thing to add to that mysterious feel. Another part of the visuals which I
would change is that when the movie zooms in it is very short but this was due to a
continuity error which would need to be changed.
The font is only in one movie with
the credits and start screen and
this establishes the movie but
without it I think it makes mine
more mysterious and people have
to figure it out there selves.
Both of the movies have a bit of POV in and this makes it
feel more like an experience for the audience which is
better especially with a movie in the thriller genre, so
there is only one character in mine but in the other there
is two and with more character it causes better
interaction.
10. My audience for my movie was 16-24 year olds males which was was met in my opinion. I thought that it should
have been at that age because it has some violence with a gun which is why I made it for this age range group it
is also the age group that watches movies the most, I also would say that males will prefer this because they are
the gender that watches thrillers the most. Other things that I decided were psychographic, demographic and
social status of my audience. 16-24 is the general age for watchers which is why they would watch my product .
Every product that I have made I would say is intended for males but some females might like them but a small
ratio, they appeal more too the male gender because they are darker colours and use more violent topics.
Geodemographically doesn’t really apply to my product because it is different and unique and vary massively. The
social grade is BE because this audience falls under the most type of audience that are going to be watching it
because these films relate to this audience. My product is very appealing and looked good so people would
impulse play it, They were appealing because they used darker colours and cool styles.
12. What did you like about the product?
I liked the visuals which consist of the different colouring throughout
the short film , Also I liked the audio to this because It builds tension
which puts emphasis on the different shots.
What improvements could have been made to the product?
The inconsistencies between the shots which include the character
having his hands in his pockets when he dies and then another shot
where he is wearing a bag and then the next shot it has disappeared.
13. What did you like about the product?
I liked most things about this film, for example, I liked the music. The
music fits in with the film and it builds tension. I also liked the visuals
and the lighting.
What improvements could have been made to the product?
The story of the film was quite confusing and I didn’t really know what
was going on. However, I believe that this was the intention of the film
to confuse viewers.
14. What did you like about the product?
I like the music with this short movie it goes well and fits with the
genre, I also like the visual aspect with all of the lighting in each of the
shots.
What improvements could have been made to the product?
The inconsistencies between the shots which include the character
having his hands in his pockets when he dies and then another shot
where he is wearing a bag and then the next shot it has disappeared
15. What do you agree with from your peer feedback?
I agree with what most of my feedback is saying I did like the visuals
which consist of the different colouring throughout the short film, as
well as the audio to this because It builds tension. I also agree with
this comment, the inconsistencies between the shots which include
the character having his hands in his pockets when he dies and then
another shot where he is wearing a bag and then the next shot it has
disappeared.
What do you disagree with from your peer feedback?
I disagree with the confusing part of the story it is pretty explanatory
and the whole part of the story is the twist right at the ending but it is
supposed to be harder to understand due to mystery.
16. If I were to make this short film again I would record a couple more sound effects such as
a shocked sound for the end of the video I would also improve any of the errors, getting rid
of the continuity error with the bag and the error with the misplaced hands. I would also
allow myself a little more time for editing and making work on my sounds in audacity just
to improve them that extra bit for my video.
