Pros And Cons Of Book Catalogue Vs. Online Catalogue
PROS AND CONS OF RETRIEVAL TOOLS
 Book Catalogue VS Online Catalogue
Book Catalogue is the old version of catalogue which is commonly used in American libraries to find
information pros and cons. Firstly, the advantages of book catalogue are ease of use by the users
which mean a book catalogue is like a dictionary with providing instruction that can easier for user to

Attending An Informational Protest Here At Siena College
For this event paper, I decided to attend an informational protest here at Siena College. To bring
awareness to domestic violence in our society, Siena College hosted the One Billion Rising
Revolution in the Sarazen Student Union on February 12th, 2016. One Billion Rising is one of the
biggest revolutions intended to end violence against women in the world. Many people around the
world come together to express their opinions, dance, and rise up against domestic violence. At this
event many different dance teams at Siena College were asked to send ten of their dancers to this
event to perform. Out of twenty girls on the team, I volunteered to learn a short dance and perform it
for a good cause. The One Billion Rising Revolution connects to the theme Diversity, and the article
Why Does Diversity Matter at College Anyway? by Jeremy S. Hyman and Lynn F. Jacobs because
they prove that diversity is important when bringing awareness to a certain cause, because it helps
promote worldliness to understand the multiple perspectives and experiences of different kinds of
people
I chose to go to this event because I was interested in learning about domestic violence. This is a topic
I ve learned a little about in high school, but I ve never had the opportunity to learn about it first hand
from an professional speaker. At this event, Siena invited a speaker to come and talk about the issue of
domestic violence against women around the world. After her thirty minute presentation,

Closed Loop System
Ernestine Brown
01 16 17
Module 6 DQ2: When viewing a team as a closed loop system, each member becomes dependent on
the next. How does this dependency influence the dynamics of a team, specifically from a systems
perspective?
One of the disadvantages of working within a closed loop system is that when a part of the system is
not performing, it affects the dynamics of the entire teams. For instance, a thermostat works with a
furnace to control room temperature is a perfect example of a closed loop system (Stead, Gregg, Jirjis,
2011). The objective of the thermostat is to control the desired organization/homeroom temperature.
When the adjustment panel that turns the system off and on malfunction, it directly impacts the entire
room temperature. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In academic institutions, when a student of the project underperforms, it impacts the entire student
class body. According to Grand Canyon University (2013) research, closed loop system interdepend
on each system, they complement, shared, and learn from each other. A closed loop system team
interacts with a learning organization through the deliverables, the daily involvement in the process,
and the involvement of an active working leader. Mujtaba and Thomas (2005) asserted that values
driven management is one critical application of the system thinking paradigm where decisions are
analyzed regarding its total impact from a holistic approach. Learning closed loop systems and
applying systems thinking concept is a critical leadership and organizational skill necessary in a
learning organization (Mujtaba and Thomas, 2005). Leaders should search for means to deal with
workplace complexity because, it natural for them to turn to the foundations and practices of systems
theory, to see the impact of each generation on the success of learning organizations, to effectively
maneuver through the changing landscape (Mujtaba and Thomas,

Ergonomics and Good Work Habits
Ergonomics is the scientific, interdisciplinary study of individuals and their physical relationship to
their environment. Ergonomics can be further defined as the design of the workplace, equipment,
machine, tool, product, environment, and system, taking into consideration human s physical,
physiological, biomechanical, and psychological capabilities. Ergonomic design is the application of
this body of knowledge to the design of tools, machines, systems, tasks, jobs, and environments for
safe, comfortable and effective human use. The term ergonomics is derived from the Greek word
ergos meaning work and nomos meaning natural laws of or study of. In the United States, the term
human factors engineering is often used.

An ergonomists can also assess existing products and services, showing where they fail to ‘fit the
user (in every sense of the word) and suggesting how this fit may be improved.
Ergonomists have helped many businesses improve working conditions and employee health issues
related to computer and office work. In many cases, most employers are responsible for any health
issues that may arise from their employees due to work hazards. Work hazards may be caused by
many different factors in the environment. In the average computer workstation, employees are prone
to over a dozen hazards. There exist two factors that can prevent this: forming good work habits and
ergonomically designed computer workstations. These work hazards can cause several different
injuries such as, Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI), Cumulative Trauma Disorder (CTD), and Repetitive
Motion Disorder (RMD). They are described as painful conditions of the hands, arms, neck, and back
that develop over days, weeks or years. Epidemiological research has determined that if these
biomechanical conditions are present, the incidence of work related injuries increase. These conditions
are therefore known as risk factors for musculoskeletal injury. Repetitive Strain Injuries (RSI) takes
place from the repeated physical movements of certain body parts which result in damage to tendons,
nerves, muscles, and other soft body

Another type is Rheumatoid arthritis. It is what s known as an inflammatory arthritis. It is the second
most common form of arthritis, right behind osteoarthritis. It affects primarily the small joints in the
hands and feet, causing crippling deformities. This is an arthritis that usually starts in middle life or
earlier. Estimates say one out of every hundred people, (females are two to three times as likely) suffer
from it. It usually starts in the winter and after a common sickness, but it isn t considered an infective
arthritis. Nobody knows what causes rheumatoid arthritis. It could be some hereditary trait. Scientists
think that rheumatoid arthritis may be an autoimmune disease (that means the body acts as though it
were allergic to itself). The immune system gets mixed up and attacks normal joint tissue instead of
the infection it is supposed to attack.
Polyarteritis Nodosa is also an inflammatory arthritis. It can even be life threatening. However, it is a
rarer form of arthritis. It affects four times as many males as females, and of those, mostly young
adults. Some symptoms are joint and muscle pain, ulcers, sores on the legs, and gangrene on your
fingers and toes (because of cut off blood supply to those parts). The organs of the body are almost
always all involved. Symptoms like sudden blindness, hemiplegia, and heart disease

From 2006 to 2007, Japan s inflation rate took a rapid increase from negative inflation in 2006 to
positive inflation rate in 2007. This sharp increase in inflation rate was likely to be due to the world s
shortage of rice crisis. As rice is Japan s main source of stable food, the rice crisis push up rice prices
globally, causing the inflation rate in Japan to rise sharply. Currently, there are speculation that Japan s
inflation rate may rose at the fastest pace in the decade as companies facing the global economic crisis
may pass higher costs to consumers.
Prices of daily necessities rose while pay stagnated, causing a sharp increase in consumer price index
and thus the increase in inflation rate.
3. Unemployment Rate
Japan s unemployment rate was 3.9% in 2008 and worsen during the global economy recession. The
ratio of jobs to applicants worsened, sliding to a two year low of 0.97. Currently, Japan s

Self Love And Body Positivity
Self love and body positivity. Are the two subjects I have struggled with since last year. Self love is
when you have a positive view of yourself and are confident in yourself. And body positivity is
forgiving and affirming towards your body. There was a time when I used to not care what I looked
like. I wouldn t care if I had a noticeable blemish my face, had rolls of fat showing, or ate a whole
batch of cookies by myself. But somehow, one day everything changed.
For the longest time I wasn t proud of how I looked. The fact that I have glasses and have loads of
acne around my face, wasn t helping. I remember looking at the girls at school and wondering how
they have smooth skin, and why they are so beautiful. You have no idea how many ... Show more

I still struggle to form my body the best it can be.
Food was the main factor to why I judged my body. I love food, but I somehow it became my worst
enemy. Before I paid any attention to my body I would eat a bunch. I m talking about chips, cupcakes,
pizza, popcorn and other delicious foods. But of course, eating causes you to gain weight. So I started
to watch what I ate, and limit how much I consumed. At that point I wasn t enjoying the food as much
as I did before. While eating anything, in the back of my mind, I would start thinking of how many
calories the food has and I shouldn t be eating this . Heck, I would eat one cookie and instantly regret
it. Honestly, I m tired of starving myself. I want to love food again, I don t want to worry about
gaining weight if I ate a whole tub of ice cream. I have no idea when I will digest this, but I know I
will.
Since last year up till now. This is still an ongoing battle for me. I do have days when I don t feel
attractive, or want to look slim, or watch what I eat. I aspire to be thrilled and be fine with what I look
like, and accept my body for what it is. I blame society, we as women and men are pressured to look a
certain way. It s heartbreaking to observe people access plastic surgery or starve themselves to be
accepted in society. I m slowly learning that being slim and having the perfect face isn t important. At
the end of the day, what matters is

Eassy On Yoga
According to a recent survey, more than twenty millions Americans indulge in yoga practices, making
it one of most popular forms of exercise. Yoga revives and rejuvenates your health, but so do other
exercises. So, where is the difference? Many health experts believe that our perceptions are biased
about yoga. In fact, a controversial story that appeared in New York Times in 2012 suggested that
some people got seriously injured and a few even died owing to the injuries caused due to the wrong
practice of yoga. According to the world s leading yoga researchers, the effects of yoga on our health

Studies about the effects of yoga on human health is tricky indeed. The healing effect is at times due
to the effect of medicines. At times, people don t know what intervention (medicines) they are
receiving along with yoga that is boosting their health. Yoga is a combination of asanas (poses and
postures), pranayama (regulated breathing), meditation and relaxation. Many yoga classes combine
other elements as well that include chanting, heating, music etc. There are variations in style and
teaching quality as well. There are various types of yoga and the poses and style vary in each type. For
instance, Iyengar and Hatha yoga are mostly made up of stretches and restorative poses, while vinyasa
and ashtanga tend to be more rigorous and athletic. Again, you do not sweat while practicing Yin
yoga. You can hold the pose for longer periods without sweating. Bikram yoga, on the other hand has
26 postures that are repeated twice in a room that must be heated at 105 degrees. So, you can imagine

various medical conditions. It is incredible how the medicine today differs from the ones back then,
including the way it was advertised and the process of it being made. In the nineteenth century,
pharmaceutical companies used marketing tools through advertisements directly from the consumer to

a building block for the friendship that developed between Forrester and Jamal. As the film
progresses, we start to see how this concept of trust starts to develop between other characters as well,
illustrating the theme of how as the friendship grows, so does the trust and respect for each other.
When we first get introduced to William Forrester, we see him as a strange man who lives in a poor

In Love with and Dependent on Technology Essay examples
In Love with Technology
When taking a closer look at really how dependent we, as a general society, are so in love with our
technology and in reality how scary it is how much we use this tool to run almost every aspect of our
lives. I feel that I could not go out anywhere, even right now, not find some direct correlation of
technology influencing my path from A to B. In no sense am I a extremist believing that technology is
the devil and will ultimately lead us to our downfall, but I can open my eyes every once and a while
and truly see how much of our world is governed by these great innovations. I know that it may sound
a little hypocritical, I am writing this paper on my new laptop, in a wireless room, and when finished

It really seems that this is the mind set of everyone who has ever owned some piece of technology that
has truly enhanced their life. This to me is sad that someone can let something so small and so not
worth it, in the grand picture, control how they live out their existence they call life. I know that it is
harsh, but it is clear to me that if we do noting to divert from the part we are currently on then will
have to face that day where there are no more innovations, no more super super super computers to
rely on, and no more life as we once new it. I think that, not want that, but believe that it will take
some huge meltdown of the system to truly show how we are being controlled by something that we
created. There inevitably will be some glitch or some malfunction in some piece of hardware that will
show us how reliant we are and how wrong we were in putting a machine before human interest.
In my own life I have seen technology grow at a pace that is unmatched by anything else in history.
We have let this great thing influence everything from national security to human conversation. Don t
get me wrong, I think that the most of the innovations are for the better and will, in the long run, strive
to better our society. But, what I am hesitant about is that will there be a point where someone will say
enough is enough. Will future generations be able to make that distinction and drawn the line of no

Analysis Of Squatters Take On Developers By Benjamin Shors
Many elements influence the implications and receptions of all texts, regardless of the text s media
type. The exact same idea presents itself when comparing the two provided works, an advertisement
for Cruises with the Great White Fleet and an article titled Squatters Take on Developers by Benjamin
Shors. Both of the pieces are only properly juxtaposed upon analyzation of their respective contexts,
intended audiences, uses of language, and structures.
Context in regards to literary works can best be described as the economic, political, and social
situation that was present upon creation of the piece. The advertisement does not explicitly say when it
was created, however, it is highly likely that it was produced in the mid 20th century ... Show more

In the top left corner the piece reads, only first class passengers carried . While this could simply
indicate that the cruise liner treats all passengers equally, it is much more probable that the words
serve as a means to draw their intended audience, the exuberantly wealthy, in with the promise of an
untainted paradise. The article, however, appeared in the newspaper, The Miami Herald. This implies
that it was destined for a much larger audience, one that spans a more diverse, modern, and inquisitive
audience. Similarly, the fact that Shors published the article in Miami suggests that his reading
population will be more sympathetic to the suffering of Panamanians in the articles, as a large portion
of Floridians are Hispanic in ethnicity.
Despite the vastly different intentions of the two works, they do have some similar traits, especially in
regards to their uses of language. Both pieces share emotionally charged language that pushes forth
their own agendas. As to be expected, though, these similarities achieve entirely different results. The
advertisement relies on overly positive and flowery language to draw the audience in. Words like
delightful , excellence , and noteworthy highlight this. While the article does the same thing, it uses
the language to force the reader into a downcast state, attempting to get them to pity the victims of
American capitalism abroad. In this case, Shors uses negatively charged words: scavenged , rough ,

A Girl and her Mother There are several responsibilities a girl should learn about before going off on
her own and it is usually the mother s job to teach their daughter these life lessons. In the prose poem
Girl, by Jamaica Kincaid, a mother writes out a guide her daughter must follow in order to succeed in
her adult years. This poem that the mother has written for her daughter is better seen as a guide to
adulthood due to her use of an extremely long run on sentence and choice of diction. The run on
sentence consists of a list of commands like this is how you sweep a corner; this is how you sweep a
whole house; this is how you sweep a yard (22 24). Not only does the run on sentence depict that this

A Research Study On The Social Sciences
The Social Sciences consist of a variety of disciplines that aim to understand the behaviour,
interactions and relationships between individuals and society. Social scientists conduct research in
order to gain a deeper insight into the factors that affect individuals. They do so by using systematic
methods of investigation that allow them to analyse and interpret their findings, and thus create a new
theory of knowledge or expand upon the existing knowledge of a theory (Giddens Sutton, 2013).
Researchers may use a variety of processes that provide a solid and coherent structure to their research
that ensures its validity and reliability. Choosing the right process will aid the researcher in better
understanding the area of research and thus may allow them to apply their findings to the workings of
the wider social world.

widely considered as Van Gogh s first masterpiece as the artist himself has regarded it as his most

tones are used for the painting to emphasize the humble and low life of peasants. At first glance, the
viewer will be drawn to look at the skillfully highlighted faces of the peasants, lit by an oil lamp at the
center of the painting. The lamp serves as the only light source in the dark, cramped space of the
cottage. The way the rays of light illuminate the room brings a feeling of hope and warmth to the cold
dark atmosphere that surrounds the peasants representing the harsh reality faced by them in the outside
world. Large, protruded features and scrawny hands implies that they have indeed gone through hard
labor and tilled the earth themselves to earn the food on the table. The light may also signify that this

Van Gogh managed to capture and convey psychological subtlety. The figures of the subject matter is
painted naturalistically and rather clear and defined. The use of earthy colours to illustrate the face and
hands of the peasants also gives an aesthetic value to the painting. It suggests the long hours of labor
they had gone through under the sun. It is not hard to imagine the hard and poor lives of peasants as
illustrated in this painting. Nonetheless, the figures are flawed in terms of proportion but these
imperfections undoubtedly grew to make this piece more appreciated for its raw aesthetic value. The
strong depiction of gloom and despair with the use of somber tones is highly

Correlation Between Self Esteem And Healthy Individuals
Studies relating to CNM relationships have not yet begun to explore the individual s self esteem. As
has already been discussed, the research relating to CNM relationships has provided a plethora of
information supporting healthy relationships and healthy individuals. The next step is to explore the
self esteem of these CNM individuals. Therefore, the purpose of this research proposal is to explore
correlations between self esteem scores on the Rosenberg Self Esteem Scale (Rosenberg, 1989) with
relationship choice, including polyamory, swinging, BDSM and open relationships. The researcher
believes that based on the evidence presented of individuals who engage in CNM having many of the
same traits as those with higher scores on self esteem scales that the individuals who engage in CNM
will also score high on a self esteem scale. (For this proposal non consensual non monogamous
relationships will be considered monogamous as it is assumed that at least one party of the couple
identifies as being in a monogamous relationship.) Specifically, the researcher believes that
individuals involved in consensually non monogamous relationships will have self esteem scores
similar to the general population (See Figure 1). In fact, the researcher believes that the scores will be
scores associated with having high self esteem across all types of consensual non monogamies (See
Figure 2). Method Participants Sample participants would be obtained by attending local lifestyle or

10-Pound Bowling Ball
When I approach the lane, 10 pound bowling ball in hand, I try to ease my thoughts. I swing the ball
first backward, then forward, my arm full of kinetic energy, as I take my three measured steps toward
the black foul line. In a swift motion, the ball is released, and it glides across the oiled pattern planks
like it is hydroplaning over a wet narrow road. As the ball makes way towards the center of the lane, it
veers too much to the left. The ball will miss the pocket. Crash! All the pins have fallen except for
one; my trajectory was off. This is an excerpt of what my Monday and Thursday evenings consist of
during the winter season. It s a chaotic scene: the hustle of high schoolers switching from lane to lane,
the hearty tumultuous cheers

How Does Mcdonaldization Affect Society
McDonaldization is an epidemic infecting the United States as well as consumers all over the country.
George Ritzer s term McDonaldization means The process by which the principles of the fast food
restaurant are coming to dominate more and more sectors of American society as well as the rest of
the world (Ritzer, 1993:1). McDonaldization is moving stealthily into every facet of our daily lives
and affecting us more negatively than positively. Before one understands Ritzer s coined term
McDonalidization , one must know what McDonalds is first. McDonalds is a multi million dollar
corporation of fast food restaurants serving consumers all around the world. The whole goal of
McDonalds is fast service with quickly made meals; with their menu of hamburgers, french fries, ...

McDonalds is less of a restaurant, and more of a vicious entity. This friendly restaurant is making its
way into every aspect of our society with poorer education, horrible customer service, and so on. The
problem being that our culture is embracing these traits and behaviors of McDonalds, society is
becoming lazier and focusing on quantity instead of quality. There are four dimensions of
McDonaldization that highlight how it is impacting societies worldwide: efficiency, calculability,
predictability, and control. Efficiency is getting from one place to another the quickest way possible,
calculability is when bigger quantities are better, predictability is when things are the same in terms of
taste etc. and you know what to expect, and control is when you make human labor obsolete by
replacing it with technology (robots) etc. This will be highlighted throughout the paper and these
components of McDonaldization will be better described as inefficiency, unpredictability,
incalculability, and loss of control (Ritzer,

Essay on I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings
Question Four Throughout her life, Marguerite experiences many different situations and people that
all contribute to the way she grows up and the person she becomes. Despite some of her tragic
circumstances, she learns a lot growing up, mainly because of the African American women in her life
who teach her all different life lessons. In I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, Marguerite gets to
absorb teachings from her mother (Vivian), Mrs. Bertha Flowers, and her grandmother (Momma).
These women allow Marguerite to learn and grow as an African American female, all while paving her
own way. Marguerite and her brother, Bailey, are sent to live with their grandmother at three and four,
so she had little experience with her mother, Vivian, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Marguerite s mother, while not the greatest role model for her children, did all she could to take care
of them, and allowed Marguerite to see the life in a big and bustling city with a beautiful, strong,
independent, and free spirited woman. While she did learn a lot from Vivian, Marguerite mainly gets a
new idea of what an African American woman can be. It seems that these characteristics of her mother
are part of what allowed the real Marguerite, Maya Angelou, to become a performer, as she worked as
an actress and singer for a while. Her ability to put herself out there for entertainment and enjoyment,
are probably attributed to her mother, in part. Once returning to Stamps, silent and traumatized,
Marguerite meets Mrs. Bertha Flowers. Marguerite discusses her as the aristocrat of Black Stamps.
(93) Marguerite looks up to Mrs. Flowers in many ways. She is beautiful and sophisticated and
according to Marguerite, Mrs. Flowers has remained throughout my life the measure of what a human
being can be. (94) Mrs. Flowers took Marguerite under her wing and into her home. She shared her
books with her and allowed Marguerite to read from them, spend time with her, enjoy cookies, and
lemonade, all while bringing her back from her silent ways after her rape. She encouraged Marguerite
to be intolerant of ignorance but understanding of illiteracy as not everyone had the ability or luxury to
become educated. (99) Marguerite was in awe of

What Foreign Aid Is Essay
What Foreign Aid Is
There are two words that many politicians like to shy away from, and those two words are, foreign
aid. Taking a firm stand on either side of this topic is usually side stepped by decision makers. Their
opinions are usually based on a case by case analysis. This extremely controversial topic involves
whether or not to support the policy of foreign aid to needy or sometimes not so needy countries.
What benefits does foreign aid have for the countries that receive it, and does it have any benefits for
the countries who give? Some may say that instead of spending money on foreign aid, money should
be spent on domestic aid.
Those who argue in favor of foreign aid say that it is an investment in the future of ... Show more

Some people would still be against this type of aid, and their argument would be that if money that
goes to Mexico was invested in helping small business get started, America would be less dependent
on other countries for their goods or services. In this case the nay sayers were proven wrong because
Mexico recently repaid the United States in full, plus interest, and a year in advance.
Another form of foreign aid is a certain amount of credit is given to the receiving country in order to
buy American made goods only. This form of aid not only helps the country in need, but it also pumps
money into the US economy. Still some may wonder why should we care about a country such as
Russia, to whom the U.S. has recently given aid to recently. The U.S. can t afford to have an ex
superpower unstable economically because of their nuclear capabilities. Because Russia is in the
unstable beginnings of a democracy the
U.S. wants to keep Russia on the right track. If that includes giving them aid in order to help feed their
people, then that is what the U.S must do. Because reinstatement of the old regime would result in
turmoil throughout the world.
After communism was overthrown in the former Soviet Union the world went through big changes.
There was no longer two world super powers, and all of a sudden a
40 year cold war ended. As stated the U.S. uses foreign aid as a tool to implement their political views
in other countries.

Essay on The Fly by Katherine Mansfield
The Fly Having read many pieces of literature through short stories, it is evident that each story has its
own unique use of symbolism. Diverse characters in each work of literature are used to demonstrate
these forms of symbolism. The boss and his inner conflict illustrate a great deal of symbolism in The
Fly by Katherine Mansfield. The boss s perception of the actions of the fly creates an interesting view
of the comparison of his father son, father fly relationship. Katherine Mansfield, a famous realist, who
uses concrete images, appeals to many readers because she incorporates her life into the stories she
writes. Much attention is paid to the central character, the boss and his life (Schoenberg). It is

He overwhelms his son by taking control of his future and planning out his life. The boss s plan for his
son is to take over the business which gives the son no other choices or opportunities concerning his
future. Ever since his birth, the boss has worked at building up his business for him; it had no other
meaning if it was not for the boy (Mansfield 508). It seems as though the physical action of the boss
smothering the fly is associated with the sufferings that his son has experienced. Both the boss s son
and the fly go through similar yet different forms of suffering throughout their lives. Interestingly,
while the fly is struggling to live, the boss utters, Come on, Look Sharp (Mansfield 509), just as he
would say to his suffering son. Both the fly and victims of wartime fighting (his son) are innocently
killed by cruel forces over which they have no control (Schoenberg). The antagonist is the character or
force that represents the opposition to the protagonist and is the source for conflict. Mr. Woodifield
plays the roll of the antagonist in The Fly . He is a former employee of the boss who comes by the
office to visit once a week. The two men usually talk, catch up, and enjoy each other s company. Mr.
Woodifield is not in great health because of a stroke. The boss is five years older than him and is

The World s Biggest Fan
Can you imagine what would happen if all the ice on our planet melted? According to the National
Snow and Ice Data Center, about 15 million square miles of land are covered by ice, which means that
10 percent of the land on Earth is ice. If all the ice were to melt, sea levels would rise about 200 feet,
and coastal cities would be completely submerged underwater. Billions of people would be homeless,
and the habitats and lives of wildlife would be doomed. Plus, Earth s weather patterns would go
through massive changes, and salt water would pollute freshwater aquifers, affecting drinking water
and crops. The question now is not if this will happen, but when.
Since the beginning of time, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These suggestions however are outrageous and impossible for everyday people to do. It s unbelievable
that scientists would even consider these solutions. That is why I have proposed that we set up fans
everywhere we can. By setting up fans everywhere we can, the cold air produced will cool down Earth
s temperatures and reverse the process of global warming. If this plan is implemented, then climate
change will be a thing of the past.
According to Merriam Webster Dictionary, a fan is an apparatus with rotating blades that creates a
current of air for cooling or ventilation . They are powered by a motor and work by moving the air in
front of the fan. This movement creates a breeze and chills the area. In the summertime, my grandma
uses a fan when her room gets too warm. Why can t we apply this logic to combat the global warming
of this room we call Earth? There are many options to utilize the power of fans. One option is to set up
enormous fans along the coastlines. Every major city on the coastline will have a giant fan. They will
install the fan onto a dock and will constantly have it blowing, even in the wintertime. If the average
fan is 16 inches and has a wind speed of 7.2 meters/seconds, then a fan 10,000 times the size of an
average fan will generate a wind speed of 72,000 m/s. Scientist Matthew Jones says, that the
combined amount of wind speed from every city will be enough to drop Earth s temperature by 0.5

Symbolism Between C.S. Lewis´ The Lion, The Witch and The...
The symbolism between C.S. Lewis The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, the fourth book in The
Chronicles of Narnia, and the New Testament in the Bible, particularly the account of Jesus death is
not merely coincidental because The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe is, in fact, an allegory. An
allegory is a story with morals in which characters, plots and settings are used as symbols. The Lion,
The Witch and The Wardrobe, by C.S. Lewis is rich with Christian symbolism even though the
allegorical nature of it is the subject of much controversy. Nonetheless, The Lion, The Witch and The
Wardrobe is an allegory. In this tale, four ordinary children find a wardrobe that leads them into
Narnia, an extraordinary land parallel to our universe ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mr. and Mrs. Beaver are symbolic of guardian angels since they are forever trying to help the
Pevensies by guiding them to safety and leading them through the snow. Some critics also argue that
the Beavers are a representation of Moses. The fox represents people who do not seem to be religious
but when tested are proved to be very pious and like the fox, willing to give up their lives for the sake
of their beliefs. Aslan is symbolic to Jesus, God, and the goodness of the world. C. S. Lewis seems to
have taken the form or Aslan as a lion for the Bible as well. See, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the
Root of David, has triumphed (Revelations 5:5). Lewis tells the story of the Paschal Mystery through
Aslan.
The plots and settings of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe only further prove that Narnia is an
allegory. Edmund betraying Aslan is the same as us betraying God, yet Aslan as does God, rescues
Edmund and is prepared to give his life for him. Aslan knowing he has to die to give Edmund life
makes a treaty with the White Witch to sacrifice his life over Edmund s and naturally, the White Witch
is overjoyed and readily agrees, forgetting the deep magic . Christ was who died on the cross in
payment for our sins and Aslan died for Edmund. On the way to Calvary, Jesus remained silent, as did
Aslan. It is said that Aslan could have killed them all with one swipe of his paws and it was said that
Jesus could have killed

Coco Chanel Revolutionised Fashion
Have you ever taken a step back and looked
How Coco Chanel Revolutionised Fashion
By Sienna Hollis at how fashion has revolutionised over the years? Well, this article is taking a step
back in time all the way to the early 1900 s to look at the way that Coco Chanel changed fashion.
Coco Chanel was all about empowering women through her designs by throwing stereotypes of how
women should dress out of the window. She introduced many trends that we still see within todays
society with many of her original products still on sale even after her death in 1971.
One of her original designs in the early 1920 s was the little black dress. The dress was an update for
the modern women, known for both its striking silhouette and dark tone. Since the Victorian times the
dark tone was commonly associated mourning. However this was soon changed after, with Coco being
the one of the causes that made black a colour which could be worn everyday, for Coco black was
simple elegance. Rival couturier Paul Poiret reportedly scoffed at Chanel in the street, mockingly
asking her, What are you in mourning for, Mademoiselle? The quick witted designer responded, For
you, dear Monsieur. Touché!
One of the ways that she broke the female stereotype was breaking the social rule that trousers were
only for men. When WWI broke out in 1914, many women who took worked in manual roles began to
wear trousers in the workplace. Coco Chanel loved wearing trousers herself, often borrowing her
boyfriend s suits,

Motifi Of Water In Jamaica Kincaid s Annie John
Motifi of Water in Annie John
Oceans cover about seventy percent of the Earth. They are essential for our environment since they
produce more than half of the oxygen in the atmosphere. Without our vast oceans, humankind would
be unable to survive. In Annie John, by Jamaica Kincaid, water is utilized as a motif to show the
growth and develop of Annie, a young girl in the Caribbean. Annie grows up learning how to properly
balance the values of the colonial world and the native Caribbean culture, Obeah, through her mother
s parenting. Kincaid uses water as a tool of empowerment to Annie s growth by curing, nurturing, and
transforming her.
Annie s safe haven as a young child consists of baths in the ocean to help heal her from bodily aches.
In the Obeah culture, it is believed that water can cure someone of any body aches. Annie informs the
reader of her childhood when she bathes in the sea after church, It was at a time when I was thought to
have weak kidneys and in the sea had been recommended as a strengthening remedy (Kincaid 42).
Annie values the Obeah traditions because her mother athing in the water is a remedy for Annie s
body. The sea demonstrates a higher power since three quarters cover the earth s surface. Oceans are a
natural force no mankind can replicate; therefore, they hold an influential component to heal Annie s
weak kidneys. Thus, allowing water to heal Annie from any bodily aches she had as a child.
The influence of Obeah culture encourages Annie to acknowledge water as a remedy to cleanse the
body. So, when Annie becomes bedridden, she has intense hallucinations believing several pictures in
the room are approaching her. Her initial response is to clean the items with water, as she notes, None
of the people in the wedding picture, except for me, had any face left. In the picture of my mother and
father, I had erased them from the waist down. In the picture of me wearing my confirmation dress, I
had erased all of myself except for the shoes (120). Annie s response to clean the picture with a wet
cloth rather than to allow it to dry reflects her mother s perspective on cleanliness. Therefore, her
subconscious illustrates the outside forces bring her down. Meanwhile, leaving her parents

The Pursue Of Adversity
Difficult circumstances often evoke critical responses from those who experience them. In many
cases, individuals who are subject to adversity are able to utilize abilities that they would never have
otherwise. As Roman poet Horace claims Adversity has the effect of eliciting talents which in
prosperous circumstances would have lain dormant. This statement is true in many ways; evolutionary
responses, technological innovations, as well as political pursuits can be applied to this situation. The
most basic evolutionary instinct fight or flight has shown how in the face of danger, all living
organisms will strive for the will to live. This simple notion of protecting oneself has the ability to
trigger the mind s hormonal glands and release

  • 3. Attending An Informational Protest Here At Siena College For this event paper, I decided to attend an informational protest here at Siena College. To bring awareness to domestic violence in our society, Siena College hosted the One Billion Rising Revolution in the Sarazen Student Union on February 12th, 2016. One Billion Rising is one of the biggest revolutions intended to end violence against women in the world. Many people around the world come together to express their opinions, dance, and rise up against domestic violence. At this event many different dance teams at Siena College were asked to send ten of their dancers to this event to perform. Out of twenty girls on the team, I volunteered to learn a short dance and perform it for a good cause. The One Billion Rising Revolution connects to the theme Diversity, and the article Why Does Diversity Matter at College Anyway? by Jeremy S. Hyman and Lynn F. Jacobs because they prove that diversity is important when bringing awareness to a certain cause, because it helps promote worldliness to understand the multiple perspectives and experiences of different kinds of people I chose to go to this event because I was interested in learning about domestic violence. This is a topic I ve learned a little about in high school, but I ve never had the opportunity to learn about it first hand from an professional speaker. At this event, Siena invited a speaker to come and talk about the issue of domestic violence against women around the world. After her thirty minute presentation, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

How does this dependency influence the dynamics of a team, specifically from a systems perspective? One of the disadvantages of working within a closed loop system is that when a part of the system is not performing, it affects the dynamics of the entire teams. For instance, a thermostat works with a furnace to control room temperature is a perfect example of a closed loop system (Stead, Gregg, Jirjis, 2011). There was a time when I used to not care what I looked like. I wouldn t care if I had a noticeable blemish my face, had rolls of fat showing, or ate a whole batch of cookies by myself. But somehow, one day everything changed. For the longest time I wasn t proud of how I looked. The fact that I have glasses and have loads of acne around my face, wasn t helping. So I started to watch what I ate, and limit how much I consumed. At that point I wasn t enjoying the food as much as I did before. While eating anything, in the back of my mind, I would start thinking of how many calories the food has and I shouldn t be eating this . Heck, I would eat one cookie and instantly regret it. Honestly, I m tired of starving myself. I want to love food again, I don t want to worry about gaining weight if I ate a whole tub of ice cream. I have no idea when I will digest this, but I know I will. Since last year up till now. This is still an ongoing battle for me. I do have days when I don t feel attractive, or want to look slim, or watch what I eat. I aspire to be thrilled and be fine with what I look like, and accept my body for what it is. Between the years 1800 1840, the quality of education in the medical field declined due to the fact that traditional four year programs were replaced by training in medical colleges. The only issue with this is that once you graduated you were licensed, but the qualifications of each physician varied so widely that there was a motion to have a national conference in order to discuss and improve the American medical education. An important document that came out of these conferences is the Code of Ethics that was infused with the American Medical Association. This Code of Ethics consisted of three chapters. The first, was the the Duties of Physicians to Their Patients, and of the Obligations of Patients to their Physician. Second was Of the Duties of Physicians to Each Other and to the Profession at Large. I know that it is harsh, but it is clear to me that if we do noting to divert from the part we are currently on then will have to face that day where there are no more innovations, no more super super super computers to rely on, and no more life as we once new it. The article, however, appeared in the newspaper, The Miami Herald. This implies that it was destined for a much larger audience, one that spans a more diverse, modern, and inquisitive audience. Similarly, the fact that Shors published the article in Miami suggests that his reading population will be more sympathetic to the suffering of Panamanians in the articles, as a large portion of Floridians are Hispanic in ethnicity. Despite the vastly different intentions of the two works, they do have some similar traits, especially in regards to their uses of language. Both pieces share emotionally charged language that pushes forth their own agendas. As to be expected, though, these similarities achieve entirely different results. The advertisement relies on overly positive and flowery language to draw the audience in. Words like delightful , excellence , and noteworthy highlight this. In the prose poem Girl, by Jamaica Kincaid, a mother writes out a guide her daughter must follow in order to succeed in her adult years. A Research Study On The Social Sciences The Social Sciences consist of a variety of disciplines that aim to understand the behaviour, interactions and relationships between individuals and society. Social scientists conduct research in order to gain a deeper insight into the factors that affect individuals. They do so by using systematic methods of investigation that allow them to analyse and interpret their findings, and thus create a new theory of knowledge or expand upon the existing knowledge of a theory (Giddens Sutton, 2013). Researchers may use a variety of processes that provide a solid and coherent structure to their research that ensures its validity and reliability. The way the rays of light illuminate the room brings a feeling of hope and warmth to the cold dark atmosphere that surrounds the peasants representing the harsh reality faced by them in the outside world. Well, this article is taking a step back in time all the way to the early 1900 s to look at the way that Coco Chanel changed fashion. Coco Chanel was all about empowering women through her designs by throwing stereotypes of how women should dress out of the window. She introduced many trends that we still see within todays society with many of her original products still on sale even after her death in 1971. One of her original designs in the early 1920 s was the little black dress. The dress was an update for the modern women, known for both its striking silhouette and dark tone. Since the Victorian times the dark tone was commonly associated mourning. However this was soon changed after, with Coco being the one of the causes that made black a colour which could be worn everyday, for Coco black was simple elegance. Rival couturier Paul Poiret reportedly scoffed at Chanel in the street, mockingly asking her, What are you in mourning for, Mademoiselle? The quick witted designer responded, For you, dear Monsieur. Annie s safe haven as a young child consists of baths in the ocean to help heal her from bodily aches. In the Obeah culture, it is believed that water can cure someone of any body aches. Annie informs the reader of her childhood when she bathes in the sea after church, It was at a time when I was thought to have weak kidneys and in the sea had been recommended as a strengthening remedy (Kincaid 42). Annie values the Obeah traditions because her mother athing in the water is a remedy for Annie s body. The sea demonstrates a higher power since three quarters cover the earth s surface. Oceans are a natural force no mankind can replicate; therefore, they hold an influential component to heal Annie s weak kidneys.
