scales and subsequently focus on the continuous rating scale in online surveys in more detail. Sub3
sequently we discuss the problem of outliers and nonsense data in survey research and apply
classical and robust factor analysis to our data sample. Finally, we simulate the occurrence of outliers

psychometric rigor and appropriate modeling techniques. In order to remedy this problem, general

language of nonverbal cues can be extremely different from one culture to another. There are some
elements of nonverbal communication which do seem innate to the biological nature of all humans,
but the majority of nonverbal cues are essentially culturally dependent.
Nonverbal behaviors are a powerful tool for facilitating communication within particular cultures or
regions. There are a number of meanings and methods that are employed with the use of nonverbal
cues. First, they help serve as what is known as emblems, which basically convey simple messages as

For a long time, our nation has been proving their role as couch potatoes. Couch potatoes, people who
are lazy, inactive, or spend their time watching television instead of exercising, have been expanding
in size. There is not a debate of if but a debate of why our nation has succumbed to this form of
laziness. It is true that we are a nation of couch potatoes because most people are lazy, eat too much,
get little exercise, and have formed a habit of being unproductive. Firstly, one cause of becoming a
couch potato is laziness. People are lazy if they are able to do something but are disinclined to do it
because of the effort involved. Instead, they seem to engage in some other, less strenuous or less
boring activity. This can lead to procrastination. To procrastinate is to postpone a task in favour of
other tasks that are typically less important or urgent (Burton). This involves a lack of motivation. For
example, a person is more likely to choose television over a harder job such as exercise. Laziness also
leads to idleness, or the act of doing nothing. In some cases, it seems painful to people to put in effort
on long term goals when in reality these people just want immediate satisfaction. Secondly, another
cause of becoming a couch potato is because of little to no exercise. More than half of U.S. adults do
not engage in activity levels consistent with public health recommendations and 24% are not active at

The 1990s saw the emergence of ODBMS as the dominant data modeling application software. It

and capable way of dealing with data that fundamentally changed the way applications were being
designed. Object technology depicted data in terms of classes instead of representing it in the strict
table format of relational databases. A class is defined as the structure and code provided by the

After contemplating the purpose of a memoir several things came to mind. I believe it can serve to be
cathartic for the writer as they can be set free by working through certain events in their life.
Furthermore, and perhaps more importantly, I think a memoir can serve as a way to for the writer to
tell their story in a vivid way that allows the readers to feel like they are living the experience and
perhaps to learn a valuable lesson from their story. Therefore, I chose to analyze two memoirs they
were Superman and Me by Sherman Alexie and Salvation by Langston Hughes. I concentrated on
trying to determine the purpose of each piece in order to indicate what pivotal aspects were employed
that either helped or hindered them in achieving that purpose. First, In the memoir by Alexie the
overall purpose was to indicate how being able to read afforded him the ability to overcome intense
social and cultural pressures that were imposed upon him merely because of his race. I believe Alexie
was able capture the aforementioned purpose of his work in a clear and impactful way. For instance,
early on he stated that how he had discovered what a paragraph was even before being able to read.

The plaza was had a decent amount of people participating in leisurely activities. I observed the
diversity within the plaza families ranged from Latinos and Whites, to Asians and Middle Easterners;
such a variety of people repudiated my initial presumptions about the type of people in this plaza,

The Mother and It Rained Last Night are both poems about abortion. They are similar with the focus
of conveying the emotional pain and anguish felt by the woman some unknown time after the
abortion.
The Mother is a dramatic monologue that starts out in second person language where the speaker is
speaking to an audience in the first stanza. The use of rhymes and the specific breaks in the lines for
dramatic pauses, along with purposeful commas to slow the flow, or no commas that make one want
to rush through the sentence, invoke powerful emotions of sadness.
The speaker starts with telling us how abortions will not let one forget and she goes on to expand on
what is not forgotten. She utilizes descriptive imagery such as in the sentence, the damp small pulps
with a little or no hair seems to infer to the status of the fetus s development when aborted. She goes
on to state the things that the children will not become and of all the things that as a mother of young
children will not experience. I appreciated the hyperbole in the last line of this stanza, Return for a
snack of them, with gobbling mother eye, which seems to infer to the way mothers tend to watch and
cherish their children.
