The Handmaid s Tale Essay
Luyu Chen Mr. Blythe Eng 406 3 April 27th 2015 the handmaid s tale essay Can human live without
love? The answer is evidently no. Love can be defined as: the most spectacular, indescribable, deep
euphoric feeling for someone. Margaret Atwood, the author of the outstanding dystopian fiction the
handmaid s tale (1985) had once said: nobody dies from lack of sex. It s lack of love we die from. In
this novel, Atwood specifically depicts a society where relationships have been altered, undermined
and in many ways forbidden. The key word in the issue of relationships is love. In the Republic of
Gilead, a form of theocratic government, women had lost their ability to love. The protagonist Offred
is a handmaid whose sole purpose in life is to reproduce a child. Gilead expects its handmaids to have
faith in its commandments, but has removed love and hope from them. Women became objects and
sex slaves to men. Therefore, the relationships of the protagonist Offred are unhealthy as well as
abnormal. Her relationship with the commander is strained but profitable, her relationship with Serena
Joy has lots of tensions and conflicts; and her relationship with Nick is subtle as well as controversial.
Firstly, although Ofrred s relationship with the Commander offers some kind of comforts but it is still
destined to be fractured. Offred s name is a slave name which describes her function: she is of Fred,
she belongs to the Commander, Fred. This foreshadows

Greek Columns And The Doric Order Of Greek Architecture
Greek architecture has survived throughout history and plays a major role in many structures today.
Some of the modern structures that resemble Greek styling and architecture are government buildings.
By building some of our most important structures with Greek designs, it shows our current emphasis
on Greek architecture. There are three distinct orders, or types, of architecture. These are the Doric,
Ionic, and Corinthian orders. Possibly one of the most distinguished aspects supplied by Greek
architecture is the column. Columns were prevalent in Greek society and were found in many of their
temples and important structures such as the Parthenon. The first and most simplistic order of Greek
architecture is the Doric order. According to the article, Doric Columns and the Doric Order of
Classical Architecture, Doric architecture is characterized by columns that Doric columns are, stouter
than those of the Ionic or Corinthian orders. Their smooth, round capitals are simple and plain
compared to the other two Greek orders. The capital is the very top piece of the column that connects
the column to the rest of the structure, or the entablature. Unlike other orders, Greek Doric columns
did not have bases; instead the column was fixed directly on the foundation of the structure. This
simplistic design was implemented on one of the most well known works of architecture from Ancient
Greece, the Parthenon. An article titled, The Parthenon, describes how the Parthenon is a, Doric

Religious Traditions In America
Religion can be explained as a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe,
especially when considered as the creation of a superhuman agency or agencies, usually involving
devotional and ritual observances, and often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human
affairs (n.d.). Christianity is most popular religion in America and in the world with over 2.1 billion
adheres. It is based on the teachings of Jesus Christ who lives in the Holy Land 2,000 years ago.
Hinduism is the religion of the majority of people in India and Nepal. It also exists among significant

Holi is probably the least religious of Hindu holidays. During Holi, people attend a public bonfire at
eve of Holi. Next day, people spray color powder and color water to friend and family. Some parts of
India people also drink Bhang, a milk base drink with marijuana. The history behind Holi is evil king
named Hiranyakashipu. He forbade his son Prahlad from worshipping Vishnu, but Radhu continued to
do offer prayers to the god. Getting angry with his son, Hiranyakashipu challenged Prahlad to sit on a
pyre with his wicked aunt Holika who was believed to be immune to fire. Prahlad accepted the
challenge and prayed to Vishnu to keep him safe. When the fire started, everyone watched in
amazement as Holika was burnt to death, while Prahlad survived without a scar to show for it. The
burning of Holika is celebrated as Holi (Holi Religion

Dopamine Hypothesis
The Dopamine Hypothesis of Schizophrenia Schizophrenia is a chronic, psychotic disorder in which
the affected individual feels a disconnection from reality, chaotic thought patterns, delusions,
hallucinations and various disturbances in behavioural, emotional and intellectual perception.
Schizophrenia is often linked to an irregular balance of dopamine in the brain and defects of the
frontal lobe (The American Heritage medical dictionary, 2007). The symptoms of schizophrenia can
be broken down into two categories: negative symptoms and positive symptoms. The negative
symptoms include an absence of normal function, including: alogia, anhedonia, depressed appearance
and apathy (Ayd, 1995), however this essay will focus primarily on the positive ... Show more content

To treat these psychoses, anti psychotic medication is prescribed. Anti psychotic medication works by
binding to a specific receptor in the brain, known as dopamine receptor D2 (Kapur, 2000). By
blocking this receptor, symptoms of psychosis are controlled. As symptoms of stimulant psychosis are
very similar to the positive symptoms of schizophrenia, anti psychotic medication is the preferred
medication to treat affected individuals. Two types of anti psychotic medications have been developed,
typical and atypical. Typical anti psychotics have a high potency and high affinity to D2 receptors,
however this can cause extrapyramidal effects and Parkinsonism (Golan Tashjian, 2012). Atypical anti
psychotics have a lower potency and low affinity to D2 receptors and less side effects. Therefore, anti
psychotic medication must block an appropriate amount of D2 receptors as a deficiency of dopamine
can cause extrapyramidal effects and even worsen the negative symptoms whereas an excess results in
psychosis. A cross sectional neuroimaging study reveals that the link between D2 receptors and
extrapyramidal side effects occurs only after 78% of D2 receptor occupancy (Kapur,

The Issue Of Sexual Orientation
In the United States of America, 1.8 percent of men and 1.5 percent of women identify themselves as
homosexuals (Volokh 1). This means that in a group of one hundred men, around two of them are
homosexuals, and the same goes for women. The background regarding sexual orientation is vast, and
a lot of different definitions of the concept have been introduced throughout time. Nevertheless,
although homosexuality is fairly common in the United States, many people still misunderstand it.
The different types of sexual orientations and their difference from other sexual related terms, such as
gender role and gender identity, are all confused by the general population. Sadly, even today, there
are people that believe in a right or wrong sexual orientation. Moreover, the origins of sexual
orientation are highly discussed and debated by the scientific community, with theories including
biological and environmental explanations. The importance of such origins resides in the fact that this
nature nurture debate is capable of changing people s perspectives towards homosexuality, and even
though the media has done a great job by transforming any sex related topic from a taboo to an
acceptable conversation point, society still needs to grasp a lot about sexual orientation. Particularly,
the fact that sexual orientation is a complex, largely misunderstood human characteristic resulting
from a combination of biological and environmental factors that play an essential role in society s

Escape from the Western Diet
In Escape from the Western Diet , the writer Michael Pollan is making points as to why we should
avoid the Western Diet. Understanding the problems of the Western Diet and solutions to escape from
it is the main idea of this article. He reminds us of many different scientific theories that
demonstrations how the Western Diet is behind the large number of diseases that follow to those who
eat it. Those theories were the lipid hypothesis , the carbohydrate hypothesis and the neolipid
hypothesis . Michael Pollan believed that all the theories and scientific explanations were not going to

Argumentative Essay On Mascots
Currently in the NFL, the Washington Redskins are being faced with a staggering controversy: Should
they change they change their mascot as a result of Native Americans viewing it is a racial
discriminatory (Angle 2016)? Dating back to 1933, when the Washington NFL team abandoned the
original title of Braves and adopted Redskins, the debate has since been longstanding (Hylton 2014).
Native Americans are challenging the team to rid them, along with all team mascot names relating to
their culture countrywide, of their title, but the mascot names have no negative connotation and should
not be protested against. The controversy relates back to the 1900s when Native Americans began to
feel oppressed and teams began using their titles as mascot (Brady 2016). During this period
regulations forbade Native Americans to speak their language, practice their religions or leave their
reservations (Brady 2016). To enforce this, laws were passed to transform the Native Americans into

that it is interesting how emotions can be conveyed through inanimate, or possibly animate, three

because it relies heavily on two dimensional motifs that elicit collective emotions. In particular, I am

SeaWorld has experienced many fatal accident over the years. One of the most calamitous incidents
was the death of Dawn Brancheau. SeaWorld was confronted about the safety of the trainers. Gabriela

treacherous to whales and humans. The audience is supposed to see how harmless the whales are
throughout the movie. Blackfish is used to portray killer whales as innocent and harmless. The film
uses different types of rhetoric, such as: pathos, ethos, and logos. Cowperthwaine uses logos
throughout the film to prove to the audience that killer whales are not dangerous. In the film, Howard

Media Reaction Of Political Issues On Immigration
Media Reaction to Political Issues on Immigration
Marvin Cornejo
Instructor: Eddie Trevizo

Introduction
Political issues relating to immigration have long been a concern since migrating into the United
States became so called illegal in the late 1880s. In reality, immigration was barely regulated until the
early 1920s when congress passed a Quota Law limiting the amount of people allowed to enter the
country annually. Just how immigrants stormed into the United States then, we continue to struggle
today in enforcing immigration laws and procedures, protecting our borders from undocumented
personnel and, most recent, terrorist threats. The following will describe the current political issues
regarding immigration and will focus on a few aspects of the problems the U.S is attempting to adapt
and overcome.
Media Reaction to Political Issues on Immigration In recent weeks, the United States has been
swamped with illegal aliens attempting to enter the country illegally from Mexico, South and Central
America, through South Texas, the high majority being unaccompanied alien children. The United
Nations report found that the main reasons children made the dangerous trips to the border were to
join relatives in the United States, they wanted to flee violence in their countries and flee abuse in the
home ( Undocumented immigrants to leave El Paso while cases are pending El Paso Times ). In 2012,
President Obama enacted the Deferred

Conflicts The Unspoken And The Unseen
Conflicts the Unspoken and the Unseen Conflicts in the workplace can lead to serious issues. Many
times problems can be resolved with communication and openness of ones feelings about the
disagreement at hand. The lack of communication leaves the door open triggering thoughts and
feelings to escalate into a dangerous situation. Alexandra is a day shift nurse on a busy medical
surgical unit and has a conflict with the night shift nurse Nancy. Alexandra s feelings towards Nancy
are she does not accomplish her nightly responsibilities and those tasks are left for her to complete
when she starts her shift. Nancy feels overwhelmed with all her nightly duties and struggles with
completing her tasks; her reasoning s are lack of ancillary staff, and an overwhelming amount of work
to accomplish before the day shift arrives to take over. Neither of the two nurses has communicated
their feelings and the issue at hand has started to heighten into a lack of respect for each other. Nancy
feels that nothing she does is good enough for Alexandra and Alexandra feel that Nancy is not
competent in her time management skills. The night shift nurses do not have nursing assistants to help
with duties and are assigned extra tasks like stocking and quality checks on batteries. The day shift
nurses have ancillary staff and are not assigned tasks similar to the night shift, but are frequently
dealing with management and administration. Different conflicts may need different solutions

What are the Trade Barriers into entering an Asian Market?
Trade barriers are the ways that governments or public are familiarizing to make imported goods or
services less economical than locally produced goods and services. For an American company to make
an exchange and enter the Asian sector, they need to identify which country they would like to
establish their business and to identify the trade barriers for that exact country. There are several
barriers such as government imposed barriers are the ones that are connected to import regulations,
import quotas, tariffs and product specifications. Invincible trade barriers were linked to cultural and
social conditions or on the government s policy. The visible trade barriers were linked to the concern
of tariff and non tariff barriers. Tariff barriers were related to high and low tariff rates of certain goods
but non tariff barriers were related to quotas, norms and consumer protection measures.
U.S firms need to understand certain types of the Asian market such as employment relationships and
the different kinds of cultures. The host country factors included the government s restrictions on
foreign direct investment (FDI), lower protections of intellectual property and the cost of land. The

Christopher Marllowe Violence
The Violence of Christopher Marlowe s The Jew of Malta
Christopher Marlowe s The Jew of Malta is a violent, bloody, destructive play that literally jars the
senses. Part of this is due to the modern reader s background: we see the characters through modern
eyes, with distinct views of low class and high class. It would be easy, as such, to discount The Jew of
Malta as only appealing to the base interests of its time, and it would be only slightly less easy to
protest that it has meaning beyond any crude first glance, and that the extreme acts presented are
merely metaphors for deeper social commentary. Steane writes:

Information Processing Techniques Office At D.a
Introduction
From its inception in the early 60 s the Internet was used to send information, this was pioneered by
the computer scientist J.C.R. Licklider of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He conceived the
idea of a network of interconnected computers which would allow data and other information to be
shared no matter the location. This led him to be appointed head of the Information Processing
Techniques Office at D.A.R.P.A. (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) then called A.R.P.A.
While there he convinced his successors and fellow M.I.T. researcher Lawrence G Roberts that his
work was important and that it should continue.
In 1964 Roberts and another M.I.T. Alumni Leonard Kleinrock devised a system of communications
using packets rather than circuits (this was the first step to actual computer networking). In 1965 while
working alongside Thomas Merrill, Roberts manged to connect his computer in Massachusetts to
another in California, thus creating the world s first W.A.N. (Wide Area Network).
By 1966 Roberts went to D.A.R.P.A. and quickly set about devising the ARPANET with Licklider.
This was greenlighted and by the early 1970 s technology had caught up with the dreams of it s
visionaries. The ARPANET itself laid the foundations to which we now know as the Internet and had
pioneered the use of electronic mail, data transfer and networking between computers. Soon similar
systems became more readily available and were offered to N.A.S.A., the

Preparing A Yield Of Tert Butylchloride Through A...
Objective The objective of the experiment was to prepare a yield of tert butylchloride through a
unimolecular (SN1) nucleophilic substitution reaction. Procedure Part A Preparation of tert Butyl
Chloride A test tube was acquired, and 7 mL of concentrated HCl were added to this test tube through
a graduated cylinder, this was done in the fume hood in order to avoid any noxious fumes from the
sample, which were observed when pouring in the concentrated HCl. After adding the HCl, a glass
pipet was used to add 2.5 mL of tert butyl alcohol to the test tube. It was observed that the alcohol and
HCl separated into two layers distinct layers. The solution was mixed by using the pipet to take the
bottom layer and squirt it onto the top, this mixing process was performed for 15 minutes to allow the
solutions to mix well. Afterwards, the lower aqueous layer of the test tube was removed with the pipet;
it was imperative to remove as much of the lower layer as possible without removing too much from
the top layer. The solution was then washed with water by pouring 2.5 mL of water into the test tube,
letting it sit for about a minute and then removing the aqueous layer again, in order to help the
mechanism for this process. Additionally, about 2.5 mL of sodium bicarbonate 5% were also added to
he test tube, were allowed to sit for about a minute, and then removed once again; this was done in
order to remove any HCl impurities from the solution. The remaining upper layer was moved to

Originally sold in mom and pop Shops and later in supermarkets, coffee culture began to take shape

these factors in place they rapidly hit their goal of seeding café culture in multiple cities. Continuing
to push their target demographic, CCD would often align themselves with youth culture. They would

Art Education For Public Schools Persuasive Slice
Outline: Art Education for Public Schools Persuasive Slice Brain experimentation confirmation is one
of the several proofs education as well as commitment in fine arts is constructive for a child s
educational process. Beginning from an improved clarity and creativity in being able create ideas to
increased awareness in mind, body, voice, arts education has had a tremendous impact. In its several
ways, it supports the advancement of the whole child along with preparation of a life filled with
opportunities for learning and delight. Art education is sadly interpreted as more of a luxury rather
than a must to a child s education; although research has proved that simple, creative activities serve
as essential building blocks for a student s future development. In addition, the fine arts provide

Analysis Of The Book Gulliver s Travels
Quite obviously, Lemuel Gulliver is the most focused on character in Jonathan Swift s novel Gulliver
s Travels, as he is the most characteristically developed. Gulliver is from a middle class English
family and we see all angles of his personality, his morals, and his behavior through the various
situations he finds himself in and his observable conduct and the actions he choses to take in those
situations. Gulliver learned a lot throughout his many journeys, and this leads him to realize more
about humanity. After all of his expeditions to Lilliput, Brobdingnag, Laputa, and Houyhnhnms,
Gulliver s experiences cause his view on mankind to change drastically. At first, we only get to see the
very fundamentals of Gulliver as a person, though as the novel progresses he builds into a more
fleshed out character.
In the preliminary chapters of the novel, Gulliver is portrayed as a relatively average and simple man.
He tells a brief overview of his financial and educational standing in society; He went to Emanuel
College in Cambridge and was an apprentice to Mr. James bates, an eminent surgeon (21). Gulliver
also has a Wife and Family (22), who get introduced, but not further developed as characters.
Although he s the most focused on character in the story, there doesn t necessarily appear to be any
extraordinary thing about him that separates him from other human beings. His actions aren t as
daring, courageous, or bold as one may expect from a main character. Swift uses

on February 11, 1990, Mandela thanks all those that stood with him while he was imprisoned. He also
stresses there should be more of an effort to completely abolish apartheid. Mandela uses several
rhetorical devices to build a strong speech. Nelson Mandela s speech Apartheid has no future is
persuasive based on its use of ethos, logos, and pathos. 1 1 1 1 1 1 1
Ethos is built through Mandela s character. Nelson Mandela was imprisoned in 1964 for treason,
stemming from his activities with the banned African National Congress (ANC) (Sawinski). When he
was twenty four years old Mandela joined the national African Congress. The ANC fought for civil
rights for black South Africans. During his time in the ANC Mandela was a part of a peaceful protest.
Later a new organization formed called the Congress Youth League, which was a departure or the
ANC and its traditional ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The second half of Mandela s speech outlines the goals and strategies that the ANC use in order to
normalize free political activity. Mandela also suggests ways to become better. He suggests an ending
to the state of emergency and freedom for all political prisoners. I reiterate our call for inter alia the
immediate ending of the state of emergency and the freeing of all, and not only some, political
prisoners (Mandela) This statement is an example of logos because these are realistic goals/ requests
that can be accomplished. Another objective Mandela states are the negotiations of the dismantling of
apartheid. Negotiations on the dismantling of apartheid will have to address the overwhelming
demand of our people for a democratic nonracial and unitary South Africa (Mandela). In this
statement, Mandela states what dismantling apartheid will do and it would address the demand for a
democratic nonracial and unitary South Africa. 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 11 1 1

Theme Of Power In Montana 1948
Montana 1948 The greater the power, the more dangerous the abuse Edmund Burke. Montana 1948,
written by Larry Watson, is about the troublesome journey the Hayden family had during the late 1940
s. The plot from the text expresses the idea of power. By comprehending the idea, the reader was able
to learn how much of an impact a powerful person can have on a powerless person, too much power
can lead to disaster to their loved ones and even to themselves and no matter how much power a
person has, someday, that person will lose the power they one once had. In this essay the idea of
power is expressed by how much of an impact a powerful person can have on a powerless person. In
Montana 1948, an argument occurred between two characters. One was called Wesley Hayden and the
other was Wesley powerful father Julian. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the argument between Wesley and Julian in Montana 1948, Julian shouts Bring him out here, now,
right goddamn now! and Do as I say! This shows that Julian has realized that he is losing the power he
once had in his family. Because he is losing power, he resulted in using his volume so he could
overpower Wesley and get his message across to Wesley. Moreover, this also shows that Wesley is
confident in himself when he is up against his father. He s not oppressed by his father s influence and
has attained power and respect in his family hierarchy. Watson s objective for the reader to learn that
no matter how much power a person has, someday, that person will lose the power they one once had
is that he wants to show the readers that no matter how authoritative person may be, someone will
always take over the throne. This significant in today s world due to our world having a copious

My Life In The Country
My life in the country was simple, I did not have to work as a paperboy, my father was actually alive
at that time, and I got to see my mother more often. My life is very different now because of the war.
It was November 11, 1918, school was canceled everywhere and the streets were crowded with people
of every race cheering. I was excited, but then I remembered my father playing baseball with my
brothers and me in the front yard before the war even started. Nice catch, he would say as I snagged
the pop up. I can still picture with clarity his voice as he spoke. He was the bravest man there was. He
enlisted right when the war started. Ma was against it, but he wanted to help the country. This was
when we had to leave or country life behind and move to the big city. New York was where we were
headed and I was pretty bummed about leaving all my friends behind. A change of scenery brought
much excitement to me, though. Talk about drive to new york here. Wow, I said as i saw all the
different people passing. Buildings of all shapes and sizes were around us. I saw a particularly strange
building which was almost completely flat. We arrived at the apartment we were going to stay in. I
didn t say it out loud, but I think all of us were thinking of how small the room was. One day passed in
the new home. There were a lot of things i liked there, but it was loud and crowded. The next day, I
visited my school. There were a lot more kids there than at

Ap English Language Techniques
English language techniques are used in many writings to help the readers to have a better
understanding and for the writers to express more. It is also same for an argumentative writing. In this
particular essay, the writer had used language techniques to persuade readers that Australia should not
become a republic country. This essay will discuss about what kind of language techniques the writer
had used to persuade the readers that the writer s opinion is correct.
Firstly, Rhetorical question was one of the many techniques that were used in the essay to persuade
the readers, while also being the most used technique. Rhetorical questions are questions that have the
answer embedded in them and often use irony. Who is Australia s head of state? and Is it the
democratically elected Prime Minister? were also used as a rhetorical question to give the readers the
same ideas as before. Who runs the show ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

individual words. Which basically means having a own saying. In the 4th paragraph, a phrase jump
down my throat was used by the write to react angrily to something that someone said or did.
Inclusive language was also one of the techniques used in the essay to persuade the readers. Inclusive
language includes readers or audiences by assuming we all agree or disagree . In the 7th, 2nd, 6th and

Last but not least, a picture with a little phrase was used to persuade the readers why Australia should
not become republic. The picture is of an Australian flag with not British flag on it. It is showing us
that there is not much of a difference taking the British flag out of the Australian flag. This basically
means that there is not main point of Australia becoming republic and getting out of British

Working Altars
Setting a working altar to work your mojo can be a permanent altar for your spirits or a temporary
altar in which you work the spell and clean up and put away the items after the spell is complete.
Altars can be set up on the floor, which is common in many traditions such as setting a Pooja Altar,
Buddahist Altar, African Conjure Rites, and Ceremonies for Haitian Voodoo Loas, and others. Other
altars are set up on small tables or elaborate tall shrines. Altars are ritually cleansed with holy water,
Florida water, or other spiritual waters prepared especially for cleaning the ritual space. Altar clothes

such as figure candles, oils, powders, curios, and personal items. When you set your altar, do so with
focus and love. Keep your mind clear but focused on your intentions. Once you perform your spell,
the altar might be still set up for several days until the ritual is complete, or for the spirits to eat and
drink their offerings. When the spell is complete whether it is one day or 9 days, remove the items for
proper disposal according to the ritual and take any offerings to the spirits to a tree or crossroads and
properly give thanks to the spirits. Sometimes the offerings are placed in the front or back yard,

American Companies Are Good For Business
Introduction:
As our world becomes increasingly interconnected, American companies have been expanding their
businesses overseas, seeking new markets and new investment opportunities. These companies are
seeking countries with a high GDP, strategic location, and a growing urban middle class. GDP, or
gross domestic product, is the sum of value added by resident firms, households, and governments
operating in an economy (Peng, 2016, pg. 5). Since GDP is an important measure of economic
growth, nations with high GDP are seen as desirable markets in which to expand by companies
seeking to grow their business overseas. These companies are also seeking countries with an
accessible and advantageous location, as strategic location is imperative to facilitate ease in trading.
Countries with a convenient location relative to the United States are good for business because of the
low costs of transporting goods and because proximity between trade partners has the potential to
stimulate trade. Lastly, a growing urban middle class typically equates with a growing economy.
Historically, the middle class successfully amasses the most capital, be it physical (such as property)
or human (such as education). This accumulation of resources by the middle class then increases the
country s overall GDP (Pezzini, 2012, OECD). A large urban middle class is also indicative of a
politically stable country, since the majority of people have access to the goods and services they need
and are thus less

Analysis Of The Movie Lego
Lego is a billion dollar company providing toys to children all over the world and is a source of fun
for families everywhere. However a recent form of Legos takes the place of an anti Nazi and
Holocaust lecture. The Lego Movie was released in February 2014 and achieved a rating of 96% from
Rotten Tomatoes. The movie was an instant hit, with 6 major awards and 11 nominations. However, in
the movie there are silent messages being sent to kids about how bad the Holocaust can be. The
connections between the historic event and the movie are featured throughout the film.
The Lego movie is about an average man named Emmet, who lives in an utopian society ruled by a
leader called, President Business. After working at a construction site, Emmet finds the Peace of
Resistance, an item said to be able to stop a weapon called the Kragle. He learns that President
Business plans on using the Kragle to destroy the world on a day he calls Tako Tuesday , and that only
the Special can defeat him. With a girl named Wyldstyle, Emmet teams up with Master Builders to
stop President Business from using the Kragle to destroy the world. While he is doing this he helps
himself and others to learn what it means to be special.
President Business represents the German dictator, Adolf Hitler. Both of the men are antagonists who
tried to create their perfect worlds through the emphasis of nationalism. Like Hitler, President

The Effects Of The Truman Doctrine
During a time of Soviet geopolitical expansion, the future of European nations was at stake. Truman
described the situation as autocratic regimes wreaking democratic nations, using aggression and force.
(Truman 344), meaning that military force was wreaking functioning democracies. Greece and Turkey
asked for economic and financial support from the United States, as Great Britain was not able to
support the two failing nations. The two countries would fall, if not for immediate financial support
from the United States. (Truman, 1) Despite the consequences of not interfering, the United States
continued to ignore the pleas from the nations and from advisors from around the world. At this point,
the world was in chaos following the defeat of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This radical departure of United States policies and the Truman administration fascination with failing
democratic countries led to the doctrine, which was considered to be a revolution in U.S. foreign
policy to make due with shifts of European power. Truman resilience to fight communism did not only
change the fate of Greece and Turkey but also the Koreans in the Korean War. Truman s policy led to
U.S. involvement in Iraq and Afghanistan in later years. Truman helped change America s mindset on
intervening on foreign affairs; if a democratic country stands at risk or the human rights have been
violated. The United States had always been against totalitarian threats to the balance of power in
Europe since 1917. The Truman Doctrine did not indicate any major foreign policy shifts, but it
challenged postwar behavior of the communist Soviet Union (Gaddis). The idea of communism did
not leave America until long after the speech was given, the election of 1952 bring up the idea that
communists were inside the United States government. Dwight Eisenhower did not associate himself
with Roosevelt and Truman and their twenty years of treason . Some even brought up the question of
Truman s loyalty to the United States. The Truman Doctrine was not Truman s first attempt of
dissembling the Soviet Union for it showed in the Berlin Crisis. Also, the Truman Doctrine had no
links in the later proposed Marshall Plan. Andrei Vishinsky, a trusted aid of Stalin, thought that the
Truman Doctrine and the Marshall Plan were examples of how the United States are ignoring the
principles of the United Nations. Vishinsky believed that the U.S. has threatened the idea of internal
collaboration, and he believed that the United States will bypass the United Nations to give the aid to

The Accomplishments Of The Whitney Houston
As I lay me down, heaven hear me now. I m lost without a cause, after giving it
my all. Winter storms have come, and darkened my sun. After all that I ve been through,
who on earth can I turn to? I look to you, quoted from the song I Look to You by
Whitney Houston. Whitney Houston came out with this song after she got out of rehab,
making it seem like it was her recovery song or letting her world of fans know she was
back. Everyone always has a rough patch in life whether they want to or not, even
celebrities. Whitney also called Nippy was born on August 9, 1963 in Newark, New
Jersey. Whitney is an American recording artist, actress, and former fashion model.
Whitney began singing in her church choir wanting nothing more than to become a
backup singer like her mother. But by the time she was eleven, she refused to be in the
background any longer and desired to take center stage one evening to sing a solo. This
was only the beginning of Whitney s classic life into stardom. This essay should prove
that anyone can make mistakes and still be remembered as great. People should know
that she made mistakes but she took her mistakes and made it her testimony.

The Internal Revenue Service ( Irs )
The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is part of the Department of the United States Treasury. It is one
of the most efficient tax administrators in the world. During fiscal year 2012, the IRS $2.5 trillion in
revenue and processed 237 million tax returns. For every $100 it collected in fiscal year 2012, the IRS
spent a mere 48 cents. The mission of the IRS is to provide U.S. taxpayers a top quality service by
helping them pay their taxes, enforce the laws regarding taxes, and assist taxpayers with
understanding their taxes. The IRS values integrity and fairness for all taxpayers. In the U.S.,
Congress passes tax laws and taxpayers are required to comply. The taxpayer s role is to understand
his/her tax obligations and meet them. The IRS role is to help taxpayers be compliant and pursue those
who do not pay their fair share.
The Internal Revenue Code, section 7801, organizes the IRS to carry out the responsibilities of the
secretary of the Treasury. The secretary is granted full authority to administer and enforce the tax laws
and has the power to create the agency (IRS) to enforce those laws. In 1862, President Lincoln and
Congress created an income tax to pay war expenses and the position of commissioner of Internal
Revenue was created. Ten years later, the income tax was repealed. Congress reenacted the tax in 1894
and the Supreme Court ruled it unconstitutional in 1895. It wasn t until 1913, when Wyoming ratified
the 16th Amendment (giving Congress the

Semantic Differential Scale to Assess the Public Image of...
1. Introduction It is well known that human society cannot evolve or exist in the absence of a general
and a coherent structure. In this context, Police plays a central role, operating as a rule of law
institution. Thus, as the basic element of the criminal justice system, Police is responsible for
enforcing the law by democratic methods, primarily involving close cooperation with the public,
respect for individual rights and constitutional guarantees, and the resort to force in as little. Therefore,
in a society which has become increasingly more complex, the role of the police tends to be versatile,
so that the outcomes, or in other words, its effectiveness, ultimately depend on a wide range of factors.

The Semantic Differential Scale (SDS), introduced in behavioral sciences by Osgood and his
associates (Osgood, Suci Tannenbaum, 1957), is a very general technique of measurement, that has to
be adapted to each research context, depending on the goals and aims of the study (Verhagen Meents,
2007). The original form proposed by Osgood et. al (1957) was structured on three dimensions:
Evaluation, Potency and Activity, and has been confirmed by previous pan cultural studies (eg. Heise,
1970; Jakobovits, 1966; Osgood, May Miron, 1975, etc.). Evaluation relates to goodness or badness,
morality, utility, etc., Potency to magnitude, social power, strength, expansiveness, etc., whereas
Activity relates to speed, animation, spontaneity, etc. (Heise, 2010). Although it was frequently used
to measure attitudes (Osgood et al., 1957) or meaning of concepts (Doyle Bottomley, 2010; Mindak,
1961), SDS has proven useful in many areas, including in the assessment of organizational image (de
ex. Bonner George, 1988; Van Heerden Puth, 1995). In order to measure the meaning of the concept,
the semantic differentiator usually uses a five or seven points scale, based on a list of bipolar paired
terms, with opposite meaning. According to their disposition, attitude or image of the assessed
construct, for each contrasting pair respondents select a point on the interval. Each interval is

also watched many video art projects after class in order to apprehend the idea of video art and tell the
differences between video art and film and cinema. Then, I chose to shoot a video of my friend who
performed a series of body movement. She did a handstand at the beginning of the video, and she
tumbled for three times, then tried to stand upside down for many times; in the end, she showed a state
of physical exhaustion. I designed all the actions, and did all the shoot and edit work. I believe the
content of my video is fairly well with the category of video art. The most dissatisfied of my my video

Actually, when I borrowed the camera (Nikon D90) from the department, they told me that it is not

Aegeus Theory Of Theseus
Theseus, also known as Thiseas, is a Greek hero that ruled Athens as king. He was no god nor had any
special powers, just his strength and intelligence to give him a name for himself. There is many
theories on his origin, a question mostly of who his father is. One theory is his father is Poseidon, his
mother being Aethra. This comes into play later on when he is asked to prove his heritage to Minos,
which he does by retrieving his ring in the sea. He ends up being successful, but Minos just laughs this
action off as if it didn t matter much to him. Another theory is that Aegeus is Theseus father, which I
ve found more stories of because it aligns with the fact that Theseus was prince of Athens, and to be
that he d have to be Aegeus son. In both stories the mother is Aethra. Aegeus needed an heir, which he
left for Aethra to raise until he was ready to retrieve a sword and sandals left by Aegeus himself. When
Theseus became old enough to move the rock that was imprisoning his birthright, he headed to Athens
to meet his father and take his place as prince. This little adventure, according to Pantheon.org, turned
out to be quite rough, as Theseus encountered many troubles along the way. Dangerous and unsettling,
he ended up defeating multiple burglars, which made him a hero once he returned to Athens. Such a
hero, in fact, that Aegeus wife was concerned about people favoring him over Aegeus and set out to
poison the man s wine. She does, but Aegeus spots Theseus

The Practice For Surgical Procedures Performed At...
Group Description The group is made up of fourteen new nurses, four nurses with one year of
experience, and the group is led by one of the nursing educators at Adventist Health Medical Center in
Hanford. The primary purpose of these meetings is to provide new nurses with ongoing support during
the transition period from student to nurse. Although this is the primary purpose of these groups,
group members use this time to discuss policies and procedures that need to be updated and or
clarified, discuss situations on the units that continue to lead to negative patient outcomes, discuss
most recent evidence based practices for surgical procedures performed at the facility, and to share
facility updates. The nursing educator uses a facilitative leadership style when conducting these
meetings. A person who uses a facilitative leadership style creates a culture where people feel
comfortable contributing ideas and suggestions, listen to multiple point of views (even those that they
do not agree with), emphasize key information, build bridges between people, create an atmosphere
where people can share information, and allow people to come to resolutions to problems by working
together (Brome, 2006). Most issues we are able to find a solution to as a group, but issues that are out
of our control, such as changes to policies, she takes with her to discuss with department and facility

JC Penney: Product: Like its two competitors, JC Penney offers a variety of tangible goods for sale.
JC Penney caters to its customers with higher end products at an affordable price. It is similar to

Penney offers clothing, bed and bath products, home items, clothing accessories, and patio furniture.
Clothing is the main area of production for JC Penney and accounts for more than 50% of sales.
Price: JC Penney has recently decided to move to three kinds of prices: everyday, monthly specials,
and clearances. They came to this strategy through a variety of studies. First, using past sales data, the
company looked at consumers actual purchasing behavior, and came up with what it terms Fair and
Square pricing, which means shoppers can expect lower prices in stores at all times. To reach this
conclusion, research showed 72% of JC Penney s revenue came from selling items priced at least 50%
off. Thus, in the example cited in most recent news stories about the Fair and Square strategy, a T shirt
that had retailed for US$14 but typically sold after markdowns at US$6, would now be priced at a

  • 2. The Handmaid s Tale Essay Luyu Chen Mr. Blythe Eng 406 3 April 27th 2015 the handmaid s tale essay Can human live without love? The answer is evidently no. Love can be defined as: the most spectacular, indescribable, deep euphoric feeling for someone. Margaret Atwood, the author of the outstanding dystopian fiction the handmaid s tale (1985) had once said: nobody dies from lack of sex. It s lack of love we die from. In this novel, Atwood specifically depicts a society where relationships have been altered, undermined and in many ways forbidden. The key word in the issue of relationships is love. In the Republic of Gilead, a form of theocratic government, women had lost their ability to love. The protagonist Offred is a handmaid whose sole purpose in life is to reproduce a child. Gilead expects its handmaids to have faith in its commandments, but has removed love and hope from them. Women became objects and sex slaves to men. Therefore, the relationships of the protagonist Offred are unhealthy as well as abnormal. Her relationship with the commander is strained but profitable, her relationship with Serena Joy has lots of tensions and conflicts; and her relationship with Nick is subtle as well as controversial. Firstly, although Ofrred s relationship with the Commander offers some kind of comforts but it is still destined to be fractured. Offred s name is a slave name which describes her function: she is of Fred, she belongs to the Commander, Fred. This foreshadows ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Greek Columns And The Doric Order Of Greek Architecture Greek architecture has survived throughout history and plays a major role in many structures today. Some of the modern structures that resemble Greek styling and architecture are government buildings. By building some of our most important structures with Greek designs, it shows our current emphasis on Greek architecture. There are three distinct orders, or types, of architecture. These are the Doric, Ionic, and Corinthian orders. Possibly one of the most distinguished aspects supplied by Greek architecture is the column. Columns were prevalent in Greek society and were found in many of their temples and important structures such as the Parthenon. The first and most simplistic order of Greek architecture is the Doric order. According to the article, Doric Columns and the Doric Order of Classical Architecture, Doric architecture is characterized by columns that Doric columns are, stouter than those of the Ionic or Corinthian orders. Their smooth, round capitals are simple and plain compared to the other two Greek orders. The capital is the very top piece of the column that connects the column to the rest of the structure, or the entablature. Unlike other orders, Greek Doric columns did not have bases; instead the column was fixed directly on the foundation of the structure. This simplistic design was implemented on one of the most well known works of architecture from Ancient Greece, the Parthenon. • 5. Dopamine Hypothesis The Dopamine Hypothesis of Schizophrenia Schizophrenia is a chronic, psychotic disorder in which the affected individual feels a disconnection from reality, chaotic thought patterns, delusions, hallucinations and various disturbances in behavioural, emotional and intellectual perception. Schizophrenia is often linked to an irregular balance of dopamine in the brain and defects of the frontal lobe (The American Heritage medical dictionary, 2007). The symptoms of schizophrenia can be broken down into two categories: negative symptoms and positive symptoms. The negative symptoms include an absence of normal function, including: alogia, anhedonia, depressed appearance and apathy (Ayd, 1995), however this essay will focus primarily on the positive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To treat these psychoses, anti psychotic medication is prescribed. Anti psychotic medication works by binding to a specific receptor in the brain, known as dopamine receptor D2 (Kapur, 2000). By blocking this receptor, symptoms of psychosis are controlled. As symptoms of stimulant psychosis are very similar to the positive symptoms of schizophrenia, anti psychotic medication is the preferred medication to treat affected individuals. Two types of anti psychotic medications have been developed, typical and atypical. Typical anti psychotics have a high potency and high affinity to D2 receptors, however this can cause extrapyramidal effects and Parkinsonism (Golan Tashjian, 2012). Atypical anti psychotics have a lower potency and low affinity to D2 receptors and less side effects. Therefore, anti psychotic medication must block an appropriate amount of D2 receptors as a deficiency of dopamine can cause extrapyramidal effects and even worsen the negative symptoms whereas an excess results in psychosis. A cross sectional neuroimaging study reveals that the link between D2 receptors and extrapyramidal side effects occurs only after 78% of D2 receptor occupancy (Kapur, ... • 6. The Issue Of Sexual Orientation In the United States of America, 1.8 percent of men and 1.5 percent of women identify themselves as homosexuals (Volokh 1). This means that in a group of one hundred men, around two of them are homosexuals, and the same goes for women. The background regarding sexual orientation is vast, and a lot of different definitions of the concept have been introduced throughout time. Nevertheless, although homosexuality is fairly common in the United States, many people still misunderstand it. The different types of sexual orientations and their difference from other sexual related terms, such as gender role and gender identity, are all confused by the general population. Sadly, even today, there are people that believe in a right or wrong sexual orientation. Moreover, the origins of sexual orientation are highly discussed and debated by the scientific community, with theories including biological and environmental explanations. The importance of such origins resides in the fact that this nature nurture debate is capable of changing people s perspectives towards homosexuality, and even though the media has done a great job by transforming any sex related topic from a taboo to an acceptable conversation point, society still needs to grasp a lot about sexual orientation. Particularly, the fact that sexual orientation is a complex, largely misunderstood human characteristic resulting from a combination of biological and environmental factors that play an essential role in society s ... Argumentative Essay On Mascots Currently in the NFL, the Washington Redskins are being faced with a staggering controversy: Should they change they change their mascot as a result of Native Americans viewing it is a racial discriminatory (Angle 2016)? Dating back to 1933, when the Washington NFL team abandoned the original title of Braves and adopted Redskins, the debate has since been longstanding (Hylton 2014). Native Americans are challenging the team to rid them, along with all team mascot names relating to their culture countrywide, of their title, but the mascot names have no negative connotation and should not be protested against. The controversy relates back to the 1900s when Native Americans began to feel oppressed and teams began using their titles as mascot (Brady 2016). During this period regulations forbade Native Americans to speak their language, practice their religions or leave their reservations (Brady 2016). A poll done by the Washington Post announced that 9 out of 10 Native Americans do not oppose their titles as mascots. Nevertheless, the Washington Post poll was conducted exclusively by telephone (Rosenstein 2017). This resulted in a highly unreliable product. • 11. Media Reaction Of Political Issues On Immigration Media Reaction to Political Issues on Immigration Marvin Cornejo Instructor: Eddie Trevizo 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm Introduction Political issues relating to immigration have long been a concern since migrating into the United States became so called illegal in the late 1880s. In reality, immigration was barely regulated until the early 1920s when congress passed a Quota Law limiting the amount of people allowed to enter the country annually. Just how immigrants stormed into the United States then, we continue to struggle today in enforcing immigration laws and procedures, protecting our borders from undocumented personnel and, most recent, terrorist threats. The following will describe the current political issues regarding immigration and will focus on a few aspects of the problems the U.S is attempting to adapt and overcome. Media Reaction to Political Issues on Immigration In recent weeks, the United States has been swamped with illegal aliens attempting to enter the country illegally from Mexico, South and Central America, through South Texas, the high majority being unaccompanied alien children. The United Nations report found that the main reasons children made the dangerous trips to the border were to join relatives in the United States, they wanted to flee violence in their countries and flee abuse in the home ( Undocumented immigrants to leave El Paso while cases are pending El Paso Times ). It would be easy, as such, to discount The Jew of Malta as only appealing to the base interests of its time, and it would be only slightly less easy to protest that it has meaning beyond any crude first glance, and that the extreme acts presented are merely metaphors for deeper social commentary. • 16. Information Processing Techniques Office At D.a Introduction From its inception in the early 60 s the Internet was used to send information, this was pioneered by the computer scientist J.C.R. Licklider of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He conceived the idea of a network of interconnected computers which would allow data and other information to be shared no matter the location. This led him to be appointed head of the Information Processing Techniques Office at D.A.R.P.A. (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) then called A.R.P.A. While there he convinced his successors and fellow M.I.T. researcher Lawrence G Roberts that his work was important and that it should continue. In 1964 Roberts and another M.I.T. Alumni Leonard Kleinrock devised a system of communications using packets rather than circuits (this was the first step to actual computer networking). In 1965 while working alongside Thomas Merrill, Roberts manged to connect his computer in Massachusetts to another in California, thus creating the world s first W.A.N. (Wide Area Network). By 1966 Roberts went to D.A.R.P.A. and quickly set about devising the ARPANET with Licklider. This was greenlighted and by the early 1970 s technology had caught up with the dreams of it s visionaries. After adding the HCl, a glass pipet was used to add 2.5 mL of tert butyl alcohol to the test tube. It was observed that the alcohol and HCl separated into two layers distinct layers. The solution was mixed by using the pipet to take the bottom layer and squirt it onto the top, this mixing process was performed for 15 minutes to allow the solutions to mix well. Afterwards, the lower aqueous layer of the test tube was removed with the pipet; it was imperative to remove as much of the lower layer as possible without removing too much from the top layer. The solution was then washed with water by pouring 2.5 mL of water into the test tube, letting it sit for about a minute and then removing the aqueous layer again, in order to help the mechanism for this process. Gulliver learned a lot throughout his many journeys, and this leads him to realize more about humanity. After all of his expeditions to Lilliput, Brobdingnag, Laputa, and Houyhnhnms, Gulliver s experiences cause his view on mankind to change drastically. At first, we only get to see the very fundamentals of Gulliver as a person, though as the novel progresses he builds into a more fleshed out character. In the preliminary chapters of the novel, Gulliver is portrayed as a relatively average and simple man. He tells a brief overview of his financial and educational standing in society; He went to Emanuel College in Cambridge and was an apprentice to Mr. James bates, an eminent surgeon (21). Gulliver also has a Wife and Family (22), who get introduced, but not further developed as characters. Since GDP is an important measure of economic growth, nations with high GDP are seen as desirable markets in which to expand by companies seeking to grow their business overseas. These companies are also seeking countries with an accessible and advantageous location, as strategic location is imperative to facilitate ease in trading. Countries with a convenient location relative to the United States are good for business because of the low costs of transporting goods and because proximity between trade partners has the potential to stimulate trade. Lastly, a growing urban middle class typically equates with a growing economy. Historically, the middle class successfully amasses the most capital, be it physical (such as property) or human (such as education). This accumulation of resources by the middle class then increases the country s overall GDP (Pezzini, 2012, OECD). A large urban middle class is also indicative of a politically stable country, since the majority of people have access to the goods and services they need and are thus less ... • 32. The Effects Of The Truman Doctrine During a time of Soviet geopolitical expansion, the future of European nations was at stake. Truman described the situation as autocratic regimes wreaking democratic nations, using aggression and force. (Truman 344), meaning that military force was wreaking functioning democracies. Greece and Turkey asked for economic and financial support from the United States, as Great Britain was not able to support the two failing nations. The two countries would fall, if not for immediate financial support from the United States. (Truman, 1) Despite the consequences of not interfering, the United States continued to ignore the pleas from the nations and from advisors from around the world. This radical departure of United States policies and the Truman administration fascination with failing democratic countries led to the doctrine, which was considered to be a revolution in U.S. foreign policy to make due with shifts of European power. Truman resilience to fight communism did not only change the fate of Greece and Turkey but also the Koreans in the Korean War. Truman s policy led to U.S. involvement in Iraq and Afghanistan in later years. Truman helped change America s mindset on intervening on foreign affairs; if a democratic country stands at risk or the human rights have been violated. The United States had always been against totalitarian threats to the balance of power in Europe since 1917. The Truman Doctrine did not indicate any major foreign policy shifts, but it challenged postwar behavior of the communist Soviet Union (Gaddis). The idea of communism did not leave America until long after the speech was given, the election of 1952 bring up the idea that communists were inside the United States government. Dwight Eisenhower did not associate himself with Roosevelt and Truman and their twenty years of treason . Some even brought up the question of Truman s loyalty to the United States. The Truman Doctrine was not Truman s first attempt of dissembling the Soviet Union for it showed in the Berlin Crisis. Also, the Truman Doctrine had no links in the later proposed Marshall Plan. Andrei Vishinsky, a trusted aid of Stalin, thought that the Truman Doctrine and the Marshall Plan were examples of how the United States are ignoring the principles of the United Nations. Vishinsky believed that the U.S. has threatened the idea of internal collaboration, and he believed that the United States will bypass the United Nations to give the aid to Greece and ... • 33. The Accomplishments Of The Whitney Houston As I lay me down, heaven hear me now. I m lost without a cause, after giving it my all. Winter storms have come, and darkened my sun. After all that I ve been through, who on earth can I turn to? I look to you, quoted from the song I Look to You by Whitney Houston. Whitney Houston came out with this song after she got out of rehab, making it seem like it was her recovery song or letting her world of fans know she was back. Everyone always has a rough patch in life whether they want to or not, even celebrities. Whitney also called Nippy was born on August 9, 1963 in Newark, New Jersey. Whitney is an American recording artist, actress, and former fashion model. Whitney began singing in her church choir wanting nothing more than to become a backup singer like her mother. But by the time she was eleven, she refused to be in the background any longer and desired to take center stage one evening to sing a solo. This was only the beginning of Whitney s classic life into stardom. This essay should prove that anyone can make mistakes and still be remembered as great. People should know that she made mistakes but she took her mistakes and made it her testimony. WHITNEY HOUSTON 3 The Life Of Whitney Houston If asked who is your favorite singer of all times, could you answer quickly or would you have to think about it? I don t even have to give that question a second thought. Before there was a search for an American Idol , Star Search or Diva

  • 35. The Internal Revenue Service ( Irs ) The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is part of the Department of the United States Treasury. It is one of the most efficient tax administrators in the world. During fiscal year 2012, the IRS $2.5 trillion in revenue and processed 237 million tax returns. For every $100 it collected in fiscal year 2012, the IRS spent a mere 48 cents. The mission of the IRS is to provide U.S. taxpayers a top quality service by helping them pay their taxes, enforce the laws regarding taxes, and assist taxpayers with understanding their taxes. The IRS values integrity and fairness for all taxpayers. In the U.S., Congress passes tax laws and taxpayers are required to comply. The taxpayer s role is to understand his/her tax obligations and meet them. The IRS role is to help taxpayers be compliant and pursue those who do not pay their fair share. The Internal Revenue Code, section 7801, organizes the IRS to carry out the responsibilities of the secretary of the Treasury. The secretary is granted full authority to administer and enforce the tax laws and has the power to create the agency (IRS) to enforce those laws. In 1862, President Lincoln and Congress created an income tax to pay war expenses and the position of commissioner of Internal Revenue was created. Ten years later, the income tax was repealed. Congress reenacted the tax in 1894 and the Supreme Court ruled it unconstitutional in 1895. It wasn t until 1913, when Wyoming ratified the 16th Amendment (giving Congress the ... • 36. Semantic Differential Scale to Assess the Public Image of... 1. Introduction It is well known that human society cannot evolve or exist in the absence of a general and a coherent structure. In this context, Police plays a central role, operating as a rule of law institution. Thus, as the basic element of the criminal justice system, Police is responsible for enforcing the law by democratic methods, primarily involving close cooperation with the public, respect for individual rights and constitutional guarantees, and the resort to force in as little. Therefore, in a society which has become increasingly more complex, the role of the police tends to be versatile, so that the outcomes, or in other words, its effectiveness, ultimately depend on a wide range of factors. Special attention is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Semantic Differential Scale (SDS), introduced in behavioral sciences by Osgood and his associates (Osgood, Suci Tannenbaum, 1957), is a very general technique of measurement, that has to be adapted to each research context, depending on the goals and aims of the study (Verhagen Meents, 2007). The original form proposed by Osgood et. al (1957) was structured on three dimensions: Evaluation, Potency and Activity, and has been confirmed by previous pan cultural studies (eg. Heise, 1970; Jakobovits, 1966; Osgood, May Miron, 1975, etc.). Evaluation relates to goodness or badness, morality, utility, etc., Potency to magnitude, social power, strength, expansiveness, etc., whereas Activity relates to speed, animation, spontaneity, etc. (Heise, 2010). Although it was frequently used to measure attitudes (Osgood et al., 1957) or meaning of concepts (Doyle Bottomley, 2010; Mindak, 1961), SDS has proven useful in many areas, including in the assessment of organizational image (de ex. Bonner George, 1988; Van Heerden Puth, 1995). In order to measure the meaning of the concept, the semantic differentiator usually uses a five or seven points scale, based on a list of bipolar paired terms, with opposite meaning. According to their disposition, attitude or image of the assessed construct, for each contrasting pair respondents select a point on the interval. Each interval is expressed by ... I think the most prominent point of my video is the conceptual development. I watched carefully of the videos you played in the class and put on the coursespaces. I also watched many video art projects after class in order to apprehend the idea of video art and tell the differences between video art and film and cinema. Then, I chose to shoot a video of my friend who performed a series of body movement. She did a handstand at the beginning of the video, and she tumbled for three times, then tried to stand upside down for many times; in the end, she showed a state of physical exhaustion. I designed all the actions, and did all the shoot and edit work. I believe the content of my video is fairly well with the category of video art. The most dissatisfied of my my video is the quality of it. It is not very clear and showed my poor grasping of basic camera knowledge. Actually, when I borrowed the camera (Nikon D90) from the department, they told me that it is not good for shooting videos. Those better cameras( the Cannons) were all borrowed by other students. • 38. Aegeus Theory Of Theseus Theseus, also known as Thiseas, is a Greek hero that ruled Athens as king. He was no god nor had any special powers, just his strength and intelligence to give him a name for himself. There is many theories on his origin, a question mostly of who his father is. One theory is his father is Poseidon, his mother being Aethra. This comes into play later on when he is asked to prove his heritage to Minos, which he does by retrieving his ring in the sea. He ends up being successful, but Minos just laughs this action off as if it didn t matter much to him. Another theory is that Aegeus is Theseus father, which I ve found more stories of because it aligns with the fact that Theseus was prince of Athens, and to be that he d have to be Aegeus son. In both stories the mother is Aethra. Aegeus needed an heir, which he left for Aethra to raise until he was ready to retrieve a sword and sandals left by Aegeus himself. When Theseus became old enough to move the rock that was imprisoning his birthright, he headed to Athens to meet his father and take his place as prince. This little adventure, according to Pantheon.org, turned out to be quite rough, as Theseus encountered many troubles along the way. Dangerous and unsettling, he ended up defeating multiple burglars, which made him a hero once he returned to Athens. Such a hero, in fact, that Aegeus wife was concerned about people favoring him over Aegeus and set out to poison the man s wine. She does, but Aegeus spots Theseus ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. The Practice For Surgical Procedures Performed At... Group Description The group is made up of fourteen new nurses, four nurses with one year of experience, and the group is led by one of the nursing educators at Adventist Health Medical Center in Hanford. The primary purpose of these meetings is to provide new nurses with ongoing support during the transition period from student to nurse. Although this is the primary purpose of these groups, group members use this time to discuss policies and procedures that need to be updated and or clarified, discuss situations on the units that continue to lead to negative patient outcomes, discuss most recent evidence based practices for surgical procedures performed at the facility, and to share facility updates. The nursing educator uses a facilitative leadership style when conducting these meetings. A person who uses a facilitative leadership style creates a culture where people feel comfortable contributing ideas and suggestions, listen to multiple point of views (even those that they do not agree with), emphasize key information, build bridges between people, create an atmosphere where people can share information, and allow people to come to resolutions to problems by working together (Brome, 2006). JC Penney caters to its customers with higher end products at an affordable price. It is similar to Nordstrom s in the types of goods offered. It differs from Wal Mart because it has less variety. JC Penney offers clothing, bed and bath products, home items, clothing accessories, and patio furniture. Clothing is the main area of production for JC Penney and accounts for more than 50% of sales. Price: JC Penney has recently decided to move to three kinds of prices: everyday, monthly specials, and clearances. They came to this strategy through a variety of studies. First, using past sales data, the company looked at consumers actual purchasing behavior, and came up with what it terms Fair and Square pricing, which means shoppers can expect lower prices in stores at all times. To reach this conclusion, research showed 72% of JC Penney s revenue came from selling items priced at least 50% off. Thus, in the example cited in most recent news stories about the Fair and Square strategy, a T shirt that had retailed for US$14 but typically sold after markdowns at US$6, would now be priced at a US$7 every day. Part two of Fair and Square means monthly deals, and in the T shirt example, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
